probably not Dalton and the sheriffs probably not two years that was two years ago no it wasn't yeah it was really yeah we were at 115 bourbon last week that's frightening that's truly funny time flies when the bears are letting us have fun well right now sadly there are no musical accoutrements that evening accoutrements what in the world you can go see Jake Worthington at Joe's on wheat street this Friday but the next act after that is on the 30th of April so that gives me an opportunity to perhaps perform a duet with someone if you'd like to or I could go solo and bust out the carmonica which is sadly been just jettisoned to the back of the show I don't know where it's been but it hasn't been around I hope your your face right now that that level it's almost it's almost the irritation is is is close to like what you were filming George McCaskier or Kevin Ward or whoever it was with the concept of me going that I'm the that I'm the musical entertainment for our draft party night so maybe they'll maybe they'll step it up we'll see well I feel like I was lied to because I've at some point in time someone told me that there was another musical act on Friday night which is why we were going to be in the bar area but I don't know what's going on so well it's just not updated on it could be not figure it out we'll figure it out okay they do by the way the place wisconsin badgers once beat michigan at michigan this year and of course perdu beat him in the big 10 tournament championship in north western was up by 14 or something in the second half of a game where they once played michigan but they didn't win that game but they were up all right is that true wisconsin and perdu get to share the title those are the rules that's they're the only two teams los vegas anyone want to go with me i'm kind of tempted it sounds like a lot of fun and michigan's in the frozen four too so miss the big 10 dominance might continue so anyway 10 bears things adam hove all chio dot com headline ryan poles best player available approach will continue and as you start the peace hoag you underline that it's been offensive players in the first round over and over and over again that would be surprising if they did that this year despite you know best player available i would be personally stunned if it's an offensive player at 25 would you be stunned no and that's kind of why i wrote what i wrote there because i think we got to take ryan poles that is word to a point because there is always you know exceptions to the best player available like you know if the best player available on their board happened to be a quarterback this year at 25 i don't think they're taking a quarterback they have kala williams so yes there are some exceptions um however look most teams preach best player available i rarely believe that most teams actually do that when you look at ryan poles' track record here there's a lot of evidence to suggest that this is how they have drafted and how they will continue to draft because is he outlined multiple times in that interview with johnson myself last week you know ben johnson shares that same philosophy and this is how they attacked the draft last year colson loveland titan was not their biggest need last year it wasn't even closer to the biggest need it was on the table but they took the best player they thought was available and it looks like it has paid off ryan poles called him a future all pro in that interview which i thought was notable and then luther burton in the second round that one kind of stunned all of us looks like it's working out pretty good certainly it's not done yet but it looks pretty promising and that allowed them both of those moves allowed them to move on from dj mor recoup another second round pick and save cap space that's how good smart teams operate over time it may not feel like your biggest need but if you take the best player there's a higher chance it's going to work out for you it's a less risky pick and down the line it can pay off with the flexibility it gives you like we learned in this dj more situation now it was actually poles who pointed out guys that it's been all offense because that's just how the board has fallen and also it's an offensive league i think karm you made that point last week at one point that makes sense too to lean offense if like you need a tiebreaker but yes the way it's just fallen for them it has led to a lot of offense and as i pointed out what i wrote very few defensive linemen the highest drafted defensive linemen under ryan pols is dervon dexter the only other one that's that's close to schmar turner neither of those guys are true defensive ends true pass rushers right so they the only true pass rushers that he's really gone out and drafted now going into his fifth draft for complete or dominique robinson uh and austin booker and both of those guys were fifth round picks but if you're going to truly stick to best player available over time there are going to be certain spots that are just neglected so i think the bears will stick to this philosophy again and that's why i think bears fans need to open up their minds to the idea that hey it could be an offensive player it could be an offensive tackle it might not just be safety and defensive end because those are the two glaring spots open on the depth chart right now yeah i mean i don't think you can ever have enough offensive linemen and if they want to draft a left tackle there as much as i was the the big ozzie trapillo proponent last summer you know and envisioning him at left tackle and that ended up coming to reality in the second half of the season you have to operate in my opinion with all due respect to ozzie's rehabilitation and i'm rooting for him to have a full recovery but you have to operate as an organization as if he doesn't exist and when he comes back now he becomes a bonus like to me if you look at what's going on with the cubs right now like you can never have enough starting pitching you can never have enough offensive linemen why because when injuries happen what are you going to do and so the the cubs are up against the right now with the injuries they're having and they're starting rotation and the bears i think it would be in their best interest to bring in a left tackle here if that's how the draft board falls in the first round and then when ozzie trapillo comes back he becomes your sixth offensive linemen which they utilized so many times last year and if he ends up becoming a luxury and a surplus you can trade him you know so like it's it's a good problem to have and oh by the way other injuries are going to come to the forefront as well so like that's that's my my whole interpretation we are working on a new podcast it's called the future of ozzie trapillo it's likely to debut on well i just get annoyed where i hear fans go no you can't because ozzie's gonna be back next year you don't know what ozzie trapillo is going to be back what fan is even saying that who's who said that i think you know a lot of fans look at it from a standpoint of like no you shouldn't draft running back because you already have to no you shouldn't draft a left tackle because you're gonna have trapillo come back next year you can't operate in a way that like you have to look over the next five years it can't just be about just this year when you're making a draft selection and i think a lot of times fans fall into trap of what do i need right now to put the puzzle pieces together for just this year to win a super bowl and the draft is more than that the draft is about the next five years i want to get more into uh hoax 10 things here but let's just let's can we make a friendly wager on the show right now i will bet and i will give odds that the player the bears take at 25 is one of three pieces a defensive tackle an edge or a safety does anybody want to i'll give three to one you can any of the other positions does anybody want to make that bet so does that mean you're just not buying this idea that they draft best player available i not fully know i i think they're going to take the best defensive player available as if is my interpretation of what they're going to do now i could i if they if they went by the way if they did well i guess my follow-up question be why will lead you to believe that because i think that it's such a need right now that they're going to have a very hard time looking at offense when you have did they when you are when you don't have a starting safety alongside kobe bryant when you need another at least a rotational piece alongside montez and austin booker at bare minimum when you absolutely and you need a dynamic starter in the middle did they need uh did they need a tight end last year at 10 they need to see what what last year i'm just asking i understand can i let me answer the question they what they needed last year they didn't necessarily need a tight end they needed playmakers they did not you cannot tell me that a smart gm along with ben johnson looked at that roster last year with dj more and coal comette and d andre swift and and and looked at them well that's fair to say after the fact but none of us we were both all of us were in shock when they drafted a tight end at 10 and lutherburton in the second round i don't think we were none of us were anticipating those moves there was a lot of conversation about that's not true i think a lot of us actually predicted they would take tyler warren it was more so who they picked i i'm you know i i they needed playmakers and i i won't i still think they need another playmaker i if they if i almost would be most excited if they picked a wide receiver because they loved them that much to take them at 25 but i wouldn't i would not hate that i'm just i'm just making a bet just my read of the tea leaves of what they're gonna do is is one of those three spots i'm happy to give i'm given three to one anybody want to take it well my read of the tea leaves is that they have drafted best player available i think they're gonna continue to do that and uh they have a head coach that i don't i think he likes defense i think he likes explosives more i think he likes scoring points more i think he's obsessed with being the best scoring offense in the entire league which is what he was when he was the offensive coordinator of the detroit lions and i think despite the success last year he's insanely frustrated that the run game was not consistent and that the quarterback did not consistently complete enough passes and i think that that is top of mind for him and the organization more than anything else so uh just because there's a couple holes on the defensive depth chart i just think it's really short-sighted to just assume that they're they're gonna drop the best defensive player available when history tells you otherwise and what i think the mentality of this head coach is is as well now i also want to be perfectly clear i'm not sitting here predicting that it's going to be offense my point is i believe them when they say it's best player available so you know if a ruben bane falls somehow is available to the bears or is in a spot in their cloud of players where it actually makes sense to trade up for a defensive player in an edge rusher i think that can happen but if the best player available is not a defensive player i also think that kelo lo loomu falls bam take him and you know or or or one of these other offensive linemen i or a playmaker as you said i just i don't think it's defense only i really truly believe that the smartest way to operate and it's something that bears have not done consistently enough and maybe are finally actually doing take the best talent stop reaching for need does not matter how rich a position you get at one position it's still going to pay off because you can move those players or you're going to have injuries as what as long as you're acquiring the most talent possible that is how you build consistent winners in this league i'm not disagreeing with anything that you said i love best player available i'm just making a bet and gary ross you're on i think you're coming to the party you can walk up to me and hand me my money like you always do i don't think you want to bet with me ever um so we'll do another 20 bucks if you want i think you owe me you owe me if you had left safety off i would have taken the bet but like to me it's safety my picks are safety or tackle depending on how the board falls and then i guess my third option potentially i'll be surprised could be even trade back yeah well that's if somebody wanted to trade off i would that would take two to and listen again you won't hear me on draven i'd say that's terrible they draft an offensive player i'll like it i will i'll they they have from last year's draft they polls and company will get the benefit of the doubt for me on draven i wherever which way they go i'm just predicting that i think it's gonna be a defensive player that's all uh yes stevens so since you brought up best player available here and you talked about wide receiver briefly i put on the thumbnail jordan tyson arizona state we're gonna talk about him a little bit later with uh tether brook as well but he's got some medical concerns he has uh two different hamstring injuries last year he's broken his collarbone uh he's torn his acl before but to me he might be the best player the best wide receiver in this draft if he's there at 25 and his his on-field test goes well on april 17th in arizona state should the bears consider that i wouldn't because they they did this last year colson lovin was coming off a shoulder injury right but you're talking about multiple injuries well just the hamstrings last year i'd be very hesitant hogue uh the soft tissue ones are the ones that concern me the most you know when it's an off season surgery like loveland had where it's kind of a one-off and you know the rehab your doctors have seen it um um like i'm not ruling anything out but it's a little it's a little concerning yeah okay let's uh let's uh let's continue let's continue to dive into hoes at ten things and at some point we'll get to greg briggs's big board but it hurts my heart that it gets kicked on hoag you know i you you brought up cornerback and that was one position we didn't talk about at 25 that certainly could still be on the table when you look at the future of jaylon johnson and and who what tyreek stevenson is going to be for this team i thought it was interesting in there i don't want to spoil your your whole article that you wrote here but you put in here my understanding is they still view fourth year corner tyreek stevenson as a starter even though he didn't finish the 2025 season in that standing obviously nishan right is gone they bringing cam louis you know from the bills you know to add to that secondary i'm just curious how am i to believe that they view tyreek stevenson as a starter when it just didn't really feel like they used him enough to show me that they have that trust in him well i think because the moves and free agency showed you that you know they got rid of the guy they could have paid and they let nishan right go and now tyreek stevenson is back in that starter spot they're betting on his overall talent his overall cover ability rather than the flashes that nishan right showed you last year you know and i think when you really look at the tape for nishan right it was a great season nobody's trying to take anything away from it but he came in and got his hands on the football a lot which is great but when he didn't get his hands on the football he was also a liability in coverage quite a bit so what was going on with tyreek stevenson look he had some injuries he dealt with the shoulder he dealt with a hip i'm not sure he took on to the new scheme you know as quick but they still believe in him in the traits that they drafted him for and was showing signs of remember he started the season pretty bad and then he had like a two-week stretch where uh he looked dominant again and then the injury started and so there are signs that that's still in there and if he truly takes to the scheme and the coaching of al-haris there's no reason tyreek stevenson can't get his hands on the football a ton too so when it came to having to make a tough decision between probably overpaying nishan right for one year worth of past results versus the younger cheaper route in tyreek stevenson it will also be a contract here very motive a highly motivated year for tyreek stevenson too to go get paid i think when you do all the math that is right now why tyreek stevenson is still in there as a starter but i would also say that it's you know in pencil right now not sharpie because there's a draft in two weeks and if the right cornerback getting back to what we just talked about best player available at the right cornerback is sitting there and you feel like he's a you know a future all pro you go out there and you you you draft that guy because you have enough questions here at corner whether it's tyreek stevenson but how about jailin johnson and just his overall health going forward we all want to believe jailin johnson's going to get back to being an all pro but what if he doesn't or what if he does and and but you have another guy getting back to the dj mor trade and all sudden that's a player that maybe you move on from to get other assets because you're now rich at the cornerback position it gets back to what we were just talking about you also have a guy in kyler gordon who yes you paid but he needs to prove that he could stay healthy with the soft tissue issues injuries as well so to me corner is definitely one of those spots where best player available applies and i wouldn't hesitate to draft that guy in the first round that'll be my fourth pick my fourth guess is that or in the three defensive tackle edge safety corner corner to me makes a ton of sense i would be if you had to make a bet right now is tyreek stevenson back after next year if you had to bet right now a lot can change you'd bet no if i had to bet right now would jailin johnson be back next year i'd bet no again a lot can change you need you're gonna need corner help and it'd be great if you get a good as much as we talk about best player available as the the keyword for today's show i mean the other keyword of this offseason for ryan poles and has made that abundantly clear is speed and i don't know if jailin johnson or tyreek stevenson represent that in this defense i think they're both very good players but i don't know if they fit the speed that they're now looking for in this defense and you saw that kind of shine through in a in a negative way for the bears you know as the season went on at the end where you're playing the packers you're playing the niners you're playing the niners you are the lions you're playing the rams and they're able to get you in man to man coverage and they just and i understand jailin's hurt so there is a qualifier there but they just did not have enough speed on that defensive side of the ball which is why part of the reason why it's that your guy cj gardner johnson is no longer with the bears because he wasn't didn't fit the speed profile that you're talking about by the way hit the like button for hoag and and the 10 bears things at the like button for hoag just looking dynamic today great hair day for hoag hit the like button for bragg supporting the big 10 i just hit the like button for draft coverage 16 days to the draft uh hey hoag you know the one thing that does matter by the way more than anything else forever and always is going to be the quarterback and it was you had one note about the relationship between the quarterback and the head coach in your 10 bears things and polls underlining that that ben was not easy on keilab at the start of last year kind of pushing him i thought that was uh an interesting underline by you anything was there anything new that you specifically that you learned during this uh work tough week for you out in arizona i just think that it's interesting that nobody is pushing back or shy away from the fact that things were not necessarily uh smooth sailing last summer you know when when everybody got together and um but i think what's important here and the transparency that ryan poll showed in his interview with us was talking about you know how the coaching of keilab coaching him really really hard paid off and you know to keilab's credit when maddie reflux got fired and they were you know even before they even just when thomas brown took over like before we even got to the off season in a coaching search keilab talked about how he wanted to be coach hard he wanted to be coach hard he wanted somebody like that well that's exactly what he got and some guys even if they think they want that find out what it is and now and then they shy away from it and i think there were definitely tough moments for keilab and i think there were some honest moments from keilab too where maybe he didn't love it on a daily basis during training camp last year as he struggled but eventually that trust got built up and as ryan put it you know it also took some positive affirmation on the field seeing some positive results which is also part of it you do you do need to see results at some point to know that hey this is working and now it's the next step right i think it's very cool and also meaningful that we see these two guys in the off season ben johnson and in keilab liams exchanging friendly jabs at each other i think that is a sign that the relationships reached another level when you hear ben johnson making fun of keilab's jump shot right from all star weekend and as soon as that coaches picture came out last week in arizona keilabs on social media rip it ben for not smiling and the gm brings that up voluntarily to us before i had even seen that he said his you know his sock's ownership unfortunately is the same as bull's ownership that's a good underlining cubs of the most boring team of all time uh do do you trust bears ownership now hogue when we went and round picks back in return you make that move but the question on why it wasn't working out is still relevant and that goes to ownership because the sky we're given a golden opportunity as the katlyn clark frenzy took over not just the wmba but all of the sports world angel reese was the rival she was you know the robin in that whole conversation right it was katlyn clark but it was also angel reese and the sky made a prude very prudent move to go get angel reese and it was that should have been something that paid off for a decade if you really think about it so for them to screw that up is remarkable it's it's it's it's amazingly poor job by ownership and we don't have time to do like a whole thing but like some of the things you hear about the sky right now and how cheap they are and they just it's no wonder that it's not just angel reese they fired the coach that they all liked and they just continue to make mistake after mistake after mistake and all these players these good players that are here want to leave because of ownership okay so and then you you spin this to the bowls and the look it's great they moved on from the front office it had to be done but the same people are still in charge at the top and until they it's not just about the statement right that you read on the show yesterday car it's about actually taking the action to invest in an executive that's going to cost whatever amount of money he costs right and being able to spend and pay the luxury tax until you're actually going to get into that game ryan's dwarfs nothing's going to change right and these are the reason why we spend this all back to the bears is because these were the conversations we used to have about the bears all the time as they tried to you know always be the smartest person in the room and hire a coach from the canadian football league instead of the reigning nfl coach of the year disastrous press conference after disastrous press conference it took a lot before george mckaskey finally said all right enough's enough ted yes it was retirement but i think it was you know mutual that they were they were going to move on to the next guy and they went out and they got a guy like kevin warne who isn't for everyone and rubs a lot of people the wrong way but he also gets things done for the most part and was a big reason why ben johnson is now the head coach of the bears and they spent like three times as much money for ben johnson as they had ever spent for a head coach and that goes back to you have to have the ownership willingness to spend the money and you get what you pay for and very very quickly now it's paying off for the bears just like it eventually paid off for the black hawks like it paid off for the cubs when they got new ownership and they went out and got theo epsi and they said you're running the show what do you need we're going to give it to you and they were able to break the curse and win a world series eventually even though it was just barely but they got it done right so until you're willing to get in that game and i actually think the white socks have that guy eventually once the ishbeahs take over but we have to wait for it so until then we're just gonna have to sit where we've been you know forever until that happens these other organizations like the bulls they can't be taken seriously until they're willing to get in that game so unless michael rynesdorf goes out and spends the most for you know the biggest top guy available and starts spending in the luxury tax there's no reason to believe it's going to change but the bears did eventually get there after mistake after mistake after mistake and now i can sit there last week where george vickaskey and kevin warner talking and yes to answer your question have some faith that they've finally gotten over that hump and are living in a spot in the nfl i'm not saying it's perfect still but they're living in a spot in the nfl where i think you actually can be considered a well-run organization that can compete for championships yeah i'm i'm with you i i've really i've always been pretty hard on george mckaskey i still am to some degree but certainly can acknowledge how i feel like he has turned the corner as an owner over the last few years and it did to me start with hiring ryan poles that felt like an outside the box hire from what we were normally used to when they used to bring in guys like ernie a corsie who had no affiliation or attachment to the organization hey tell us who to hire you know and then you know they bring in a young guy who says i'm going to rip this team down from the studs and build it back up george never really liked doing that he always it always felt like the bears would put a band-aid on a gunshot wound then hiring kevin warren was a very outside the box outside a hallus hall type of move this whole stadium situation and the idea that they can move out of chicago now not only move out of chicago but maybe move out of illinois that's so far out of george's jurisdiction of what i'm used to firing matt eber fluss in the middle of the season when the writing was completely on the wall george never fires coaches in the middle of the season they came around to that there's been so many different instances where i'm like oh this feels like a new george here coming around all the way to ben johnson swearing you know in the locker room and it becoming like this big thing george wasn't allowing swearing on hard knocks you know oh by the way they had hard knocks here that was another thing i never thought would happen with the bears because of george so there has been so many different instances and and just kind of tie this all in together i think ultimately you don't have to be a great owner you can have flaws and and things you're not good at but putting the right people in place ahead of you tom ricketts isn't a great owner but when he had theo eppstein ahead of them they were a great organization for that period of time so it's about understanding hey i got to put the right people in place and and and do what i do best on the other side of it there there's no doubt that there's been significant progress that's been made and i live i think for all being us it's yours there's still a ways to go as well uh but i mean the biggest thing for me among anything else is that they paid for ben johnson uh that they they green lighted 13 million dollars a year for a head coach that they even though he did fit under the umbrella of they that he had never done the job before which is what the bears traditionally have done this was a different level this was the guy and they went and did it so and it's paying off from in big time waste so that's i think that's hopefully a great lesson hoag anything final on this go ahead well just but just think about how silly that actually sounds like it's so simple just you're a rich owner you own a franchise spend the money usually when you spend the money you win you win it like it shouldn't take it shouldn't have taken that long to figure out that in the nfl where coaches matter probably more than any other league spend there's no salary cap on the coaches go spend the money for the big coaches and you're going to get results but the bears finally did do that and now that now they're here and i just think that that's a there's we've seen enough of this now in this town i would say between the cubs black hawks and and the bears shifting their mindset getting into a new era of professional sports franchises that the other ones that are so badly trailing in this town it shouldn't be that hard to figure out what you need to do if you truly want to win or do you just want to put out another statement say you're committed to winning and how the fans should be mad you just keep doing that every few years or are you actually going to spend the money and turn things around the rhinestones need to hear that message more than anybody well they do and the other thing that bears just to underline i mean for George Bacchusky to sit there in last week and say that the republic will get over it moving to indiana that's a major ass shift i mean it really is so good for him because business is business and you're you're trying to do what's best for your franchise as much as people don't great this whole thing could go to nothing if we don't get it turned around let's go get the best coach out there who knows something about offense and let's get away from the matt and ryan game that they did back to back that was when i was at my little point by the way matt and ryan you can't just go and hire matt and ryan again when you just had matt and ryan how many matt and ryan's can we do of course this ryan's turned out a little bit better this that matt was about the same uh and let's not forget how hard that offseason going into trading justin fields and drafting kayla williams as much as that felt like an easy layup to to some like maybe on the outside anyone that lived in chicago or lives in breeze the bears knows how hard that was and maybe their previous bears ownerships that would have messed that up and and fell for the emotion the fans the fans love justin we want justin let's extend justin the players love justin yep you know they they did something there that was obviously the very correct move to make whether it worked out or not you had to draft a quarterback at one and it basically had to be kayla williams but it was a very unpopular move by a segment of the fan base i'm not going to say majority because it's hard to say an exact percentage but a segment of the fan base we had a vocal a very vocal segment of the fan base and a locker room that really loved justin and wasn't sure about who kayla williams was going to be coming in now two years later three years later it's all looking gravy but at the time let's not underestimate how hard of a decision that was for ownership as well yeah no doubt and i also do kind of wonder like behind the scenes what the locker room was saying you know when they're having their exit meetings and you know certain guys i mean i i'm sure i'm sure dj loved him because he got the ball at time but elsewhere that wasn't perhaps i don't know if that opinion was shared as fully go ahead steven you know the results of the poll yeah sure what we got 91 percent say yes they have gained trust in bears ownership about it 91 percent congratulations george congratulations kevin congratulations ryan there is no other poll out there that matters according to the chgo bears podcast the number one football podcast in the country according to me you guys have 91 positive trending in your direction congratulations i think that's a big deal it's very good when in the history of the bears has that ever happened honestly the approval rating being at 91 percent that 91 percent whatever even just even just at the low bar that we said that it's more than it was and think about that 91 is a quick poll right so it's a smaller litmus test here but 91 percent approval rating from today's chat and we still the stadium thing is still like getting people mad and yet that just goes to show you just win just win and you can screw around with stadiums you can if you win yes you know but it can stomach be in piss off if the bears were bad if the bears were bad and they had pulled all the stadium stuff they've done over the last three months that poll would be at 15 percent it would be less tyler at a previous step before i came here at the great fans cited um tyler is a draft nut and uh he did a best player available uh rundown i was like this this fits for what we're talking about today so let's get tyler in here because he knows his stuff so i'm at the combine guy is in the weeds he's got some interesting names for you so here was an interview it's a little bit earlier today brook and i have been worked together 15 years ago and i'm like dude nobody knows more about the draft in football than you except for maybe mad vertebrate who i used to also work with vertebrate up there but the founder of best available he's living his dream uh i see him every year at the combine so he figured today would be a great day to bring tyler on alongside my beautiful friend greggory here all right tyler you are in the weeds what are the bears give us your best prediction your best guess your best estimation what the bears do at number 25 assuming they keep the pick well real quick you said 15 years and i was like that's pretty hyperbolic and then i started thinking about it i was like uh damn it's like been 10 so i'm getting pretty old thank you uh as far as 25 uh for the bears i think there's a couple options like i know offensive lines definitely like on the radar you know left tackle especially um but for the bears specifically like i don't know how comfortable i'd be taking a project like a kate improctor or a maxi hanachore my hot take if they do take a tackle would be to take blake miller if he's there i don't think mineral freeling out of georgia will be there but blake miller has been one of these guys played right tackle for clinton for like four years uh he's just had a ton of playing experience really technically sound he may not be a or a plus in any traits but i don't think he's lower than like a bb minus anywhere either that's like a really safe pick in my eyes that you could just flip over to left tackle uh you know have no issues with that they don't go off into tackle i definitely think you know nose is a real potential target and there's some really exciting ones in this draft whether it's a kaden mcdonald out of ohio state one of these really immensely powerful players who really popped a couple times on tape despite all the other playmakers on that defense uh or even a guy like you know personally christian miller a guy that can play nose or three tech for you a really disruptive tenacious like you know ass kicker nose out of georgia big fan of him steven you nearly had a stroke when he picked that tackle would you like to explain the look on your face i mean like miller for me like i he's a right tackle do you think he could move to left tackle because right tackle is pretty much locked in with darnall right yeah i would not let him hit left right tackle let me tell you i even as a packers fan which i know i'm gonna get crushed for that like huge darnall right fan he is awesome uh but i think you can make this uh switch to left tackle uh it kind of fits his skill set a bit more in my opinion uh you know he i think he's a little bit more fluid than you give him credit for and honestly i i always think we overhyped the switch from right to left tackle it's more of just like a getting used to kind of thing and i think that uh uncomfortability goes away pretty quickly yeah that's certainly a surprising name i'm certainly gonna turn some heads uh for fans that'll be watching here in a little bit but i'm just curious about your bigger your bigger picture overall view of this because when when you're looking at the draft for the bears specifically it feels like like they've called this a lighter draft it isn't there's there's a few at the top and then that it starts to kind of dwindle but there's some real strength up the middle whether it's detackle linebacker safety my problem with the bears at 25 is where i'm concerned is i like see a lot of worst-case scenarios kind of playing out because the detackles don't seem to be worthy of the 25th pick and are the tackles and the safeties are like some of these guys even gonna be there at 25 so i i'm just a what what's kind of your overhead view of kind of how this can break down in a best case in a worst-case scenario for the bears yeah i think that's a really good question uh because you know for my own personal big board i've watched 170 guys at this point i have three blue shippers and i think i have 19 first round grades but i have like 65 70 day two guys like it is one of those draft classes where it's not going to be a lot of flashy names but i think it is going to be a lot of guys that can contribute for a while so i think best-case scenario for the bears like if we're talking about that tackle and again this is just a personal thing when i'm thinking about the bears i think they're ready to compete right away i just don't want a project but i would take Monroe Freeling if he slides like that is a guy like if he is there uh you know i'm spruning that card in because i think that's a best case scenario at tackle where i'm like you know no question there if we're talking about d-line i mean i still think peter woods is going to go earlier than people think just because of how dominant his 2024 uh tape was uh but you know if he if he's there man like i i just the kind of nice thing about where you guys as bears fans are in right now like yeah there are a couple needs but if one of these players because it's going to be such a weird draft after the first like five to ten picks you can kind of do have a luxury of looking at some of these players that are you know like the best player available regardless of position just kind of taking a swing while you're on tackles a little bit and talking about freeling and talking about you know proctor you know obviously from alabama somebody that i've certainly had my eye on somebody that i don't know too much about that's starting to get a lot of momentum is max a henna core from arizona state ryan poles was at you know their pro day in arizona state uh you know there's a wide receiver there as well but just curious what you're seeing in a henna core and how he's starting to move up draft charts yeah so you have been on my radar since senior bull uh blown away by his tape this is a guy that was i think a juco player got discovered by an online man coach at fresno state that coach jumps over to arizona state and the coach is like you have to bring this kid over like you have to they bring him over you know like hey maybe we'll keep working on this developmental project starts right away right tackle uh go watch the texas tech if you're into watching oline play go watch the texas tech game like he's going against david bailey romelo height leahunner like all these guys and he is holding his own he's got crazy size crazy length uh he's you know very big dense heavy and so when you see those things you just kind of think all right this guy's going to be you know slow footed i just kind of try and lean on guys no he's got like rapid quick feet um he's way more technically far ahead than i'd expect for a guy that i don't think started playing football to like senior year of high school junior year of high school like he should be more raw than he is um but i still feel like he's a little bit of a project he's more of a right tackle in my opinion because of the way that he moves bodies in the trenches but man uh talk about a really fun watch and especially when you watch him go against good on good top tier pass rushers like he really really held his own sticking with arizona state uh earlier in the show we were talking about how the bears are maintaining they're going to go best player available jordan tyson is slipping in drafts he won't be able to show any testing until april 17th he didn't test the combine didn't test the pro day if he slips to the bears is that something they should consider or is that something a little too risky listen i still i would not rule out the bear taking a wide receiver i know like trading away de jay more still think you could use another weapon like i really was high on luther burden last year so kind of cool to see that he's really panning out but you know you can always use more weapons in an office especially one run by ben johnson uh i think tyson's getting you know this is kind of that smoke screen season in my opinion and there's way too much coming out that's trying to like knock tyson he's a really really good and competitively tough player i thought he really worked on his craft year over year became a much much improved route runner and release package in 2025 and then another guy you go watch i think it was the texas tech game like injures both hamstrings goes out multiple times in the game and then continues to go back out there and play clearly hobbled i believe he scores the game winning touchdown so when i hear people trying to knock his toughness to get a little bothered by it that is a grit and grind player that's really improved year over year brings a really fun skill set i think it would mesh well with the bear's current wide receivers who do you like in the safety market 57 60 second round area for the bears love that question it's such an interesting safety class because he was like so many guys are hybrids but if a j hall c falls that far out of lsu that it might be my favorite safety prospect in this class he's just kind of like my dream box safety that also has like some free safety ability because he's just his trigger is so quick like when he reads you know run or an underneath throw he's triggering his explosiveness downhill he's just firing out of a cannon he is not he is absolutely not afraid of contact like he is going he's not going to stop as he hits that bulk area he's going to go through them but he also has that really impressive you know post snap processing you know as the play is developing to recognize route combinations he clearly watches a ton of film you know he's what 220 pound safety like this is a guy that will be an enforcer for a defensive secondary i'm a huge fan of him if he doesn't end up going there i like kamar ramsey or as a key wheatley maybe that's a little early for them you know but halsey would probably be my guy yeah he's a four-year starter with three different schools i'm curious with your evaluation process as you're kind of weeding through that in this era of transfer portal and n i l obviously like immanuel mcneil warren just like i passed with flying colors of the combine for his reasoning of staying loyal to to lido but i'm curious from your perspective how you kind of wade through deciphering players intentions of why they kept leaving schools because back in the day if you went to a different schools because you were a troublemaker but nowadays it's because you're out looking out for your best interest yeah and i think you have to take it on a case by case basis still but like if we're just going blanket statement i'm never going to fault a kid for wanting to get more exposure to chase his dream for the nfl right like a lot of these kids are trying to go to bigger programs to increase their exposure and like i'm an iu grad man i can't talk crap about the transfer portal i watched a bunch of these small school kids end up leading my alma mater to a national championship i've never thought that was going to happen i do take it on a case by case basis though because you can see a kid it's like alright he played three schools four years and you turn on the tape and you're like he just doesn't look like he wants it and i think that is where i start questioning the transfers a little bit more but for a guy like halsey man like that is a guy that is clearly just like trying to get an opportunity to play and when he did i thought he absolutely made the most of it are you more uh are you more war or thenamin so i'm gonna war or deal with the end of them well listen i live in westfield indiana which is where thenamin went to high school he played ball with a lot of the kids i coached my first year of high school that were all seniors uh he kicked our ass in the sectionals like that is a legit playmaker so i don't think i can give you an unbiased answer there because i've kind of seen thenamin come up um it's really cool to see you know had good tape at purdue and then goes to organ and just an immediate playmaker for them um but i will say as far as like the lizard brain and me like i just love watching make me a warrant to capitate people in the middle of the field it's really really fun it's been a fun little debate that's been going on right now yes it's a really tough one the bears ran 13 personnel at a top five right in the league last year right now you look at their roster it's colkmanus colston lovelin and on a smattering of practice squad players is there a blocking tight end that could fill that derm smith roll for the bears in this draft i love that question i love a good why uh and it's funny because i know this class at least of the tight ends i've watched there's a lot of just like i do i'm not an elie stowers guy i'm not a big fan of tight ends that are basically slot receivers uh the two names i'll give you from the guys i've watched that i really like um it's sam roush out of stanford uh six foot six but dinosaur arms but he blocks his tail off like he really gets in there you know tight hand placement drives his legs through contact especially in short-yarded situations and he's a terrific athlete they can carry up the seam so he brings a little bit of that um and then if you're going for another name um oh my gosh al oscar delt is a probably a day three guy out of georgia sat behind Brock Bowers played in a really funky offense with a funky quarterback so you didn't see a lot of in the passing game but uh the one two and athleticism really stands out for me as a blocker i think technically we still need to work on him a bit but uh the flashes of blocking from tape on him i've been very impressed by i don't want to throw myself under the bus but uh what does dinosaur arms mean is that mean they're short yeah two x arms two x arms yeah i bought a seerax yeah well i thought maybe they could be just like bulky and just run people over with his arms i because we're fully on me yeah my bad i i'm learning Gregory yeah it's like will cambell from last year there we go this is very worse than will camble it's uh it's 31 and 5 8 which is crazy for oh no that's not even accurate i'm like at the wrong name so i'm looking at my board 30 and a half inch arms at 6 6 it's really bad yeah that's interesting okay so running back tyler give me give me your whatever give me second round sure but even later than that who do you like what kind of style you guys looking for behind your current backfield like do you want a pass protector do you want like a lightning do you want a thunder what are you what are we talking well i mean for me i mean they need a they need a pass blocking running back this is the role needed to replace and probably a short yardage guy too because roshan johnson hasn't really been used very much well i'll give you he's not the biggest guy but this is the who's you're gonna be coming out if you want a guy that's gonna throw his face into pass protection and run hard as hell it's calan black out of indiana he's about 210 215 runs like he's mad at the grass like it's an isaiyep a checo running style like i think early his career that's my comp for him but when there's like agap pressure coming like he would just annihilate himself just to keep mendoza clean and i i always really like a guy especially now you got a really nice backfield just having a guy like that as a complimentary piece that could still run a bit for you i'm a big fan of his i forget about the the guy who can block who's the guy that's going to be exciting to watch run the football around everyone like washington arkansas got lit up the combine ran like what a four three almost flat at the combine at 223 pounds this is a horrible comp this is just purely stylistic but his role would be like a derrick henry where you just absolutely do not want him on passing downs or as a receiver uh even i don't even love his contact balance for a guy that size he's a bit upright he's got fumble issues but man when he hits a hole on outside zone it's over like he just he's taking off and it's going to be like a 60 yard touchdown all right brex you want to do one more uh because this is your big bore day you want to have one more for tyler uh i'm just curious about zion young you know it's been a name that's been attached a lot to that 25th pick uh obviously made an impression at the senior but i just hear a lot of wide wide ranging opinions about him it's got a ton of athleticism but you know some of the guys i i talk to on a consistent basis question is motor so i'm just curious what you see with zion young yeah i mean i'm seeing a true power usher that's got athletic ability and can get extended and checks a lot of boxes i always tend to lean towards the bigger body edges i just think stopping the run matters i don't think we talk about it enough i want three down edges i don't want a roster full of 230 240 pound guys just trying to get after the quarterback that being said when i do watch the tape uh he seems like a little bit of a hothead and it does show up a little bit like when he gets frustrated by like no flag or he gets a cheap shot he gets a flag uh it shows up after the fact on tape like in the ensuing plays and that's a bit of a red flag for me because it like when you know your coach is always like coach speak just shake off go to the next play he doesn't always show that and then you had that with you know i think he had a dwi he had a this one's a little exaggerated he did have like an assault charge from like an incident in a tunnel after a game like just seems like he's a little bit of a hothead and i'm not going to try and speculate any more than that just from what i've seen but i'm curious to see how that goes in team interviews anything else else from you steven or you are you good i think i'm good all right tyler you are the man we really dole out the seed one of those roller things this is like this is far away from what i do as possible so i'm buying seed i'm buying the roller i'm going into the backyard i'm picking up every sure roofing sheds and on a farm yeah now you're doing this now i'm now i'm gardening who are you who am i i have no idea i got the blower midlife crisis i think so yes aren't you past your midlife yes i
