Summary

This episode presents a Catholic rosary meditation on the Passover, drawing theological parallels between the Old Testament Passover narrative and Christian salvation through Jesus Christ. The meditation explores how the sacrificial lamb in Exodus prefigures Jesus as the Lamb of God, and how baptism and the Eucharist represent the New Covenant fulfillment of the Passover pattern.

Insights
  • The Passover narrative serves as a theological template for understanding Christian redemption—sacrifice of the lamb, application of blood, and consumption of the lamb parallel baptism and Eucharist in Christian practice
  • Jesus's incarnation and death possess infinite salvific value because he is simultaneously true God and true man, allowing him to stand in humanity's place while his divine nature gives his sacrifice universal redemptive power
  • Spiritual conversion of non-Catholic family and friends requires intentional daily action—prayer, acceptance of suffering, building genuine friendships, and seizing opportunities—rather than treating conversion as a distant long-term goal
  • The episode emphasizes that every moment and action matters in the 'long game' of faith and evangelization, using sports metaphors to illustrate how individual plays accumulate to determine final outcomes
  • Baptism initiates entry into God's covenant family, but the Eucharist is presented as essential divine sustenance that perfects and completes the sacramental life begun in baptism

Welcome to our daily rosary meditation. Let's begin in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen. Let's call to mind all those we've promised to pray for. I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day, He rose again. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be your name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us in our ends now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us in our ends now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, as now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of thy mercy. Our first meditation. Despite the plagues, clear signs that Yahweh alone is God and the gods of Egypt are nothing, Pharaoh hardened his heart and refused to let Israel go. His stubbornness brought upon Egypt the final and terrible plague, the death of the firstborn. Yet even in judgment, God provided a way of mercy. He gave his people a means to be spared. They were to take a lamb without blemish and sacrifice it. They were to mark the doorposts and lintel of their homes with its blood, and they were to eat the lamb that night. Then at midnight, the Lord passed through the land, and from Pharaoh's firstborn unto the lowest prisoner, even the livestock, death struck every house not marked by blood. The Book of Wisdom describes that night with solemn power. When peaceful silence lay over all, and night had run the half of her swift course, down from the heavens, from the royal throne, leapt your all-powerful word. He stood and filled the universe with death. But the homes sealed with the blood of the Lamb were spared, and death passed over them. That's why it's called the Passover, because death passed over those marked with the sign of the blood. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be your name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Our second meditation. The first Passover in Egypt established a pattern from salvation from death. A lamb must be sacrificed, its blood applied to the doorposts, and the lamb had to be eaten. And this first Passover, prepared for the true and final Passover, where Jesus, the Lamb of God, would save us from eternal death, And in the new Passover the same pattern had to be followed Jesus the Lamb of God is sacrificed and His blood is poured over us in baptism marking us as God's people. And we, too, must eat the Lamb, receiving His body and blood in the Eucharist. And by following the steps, the pattern, of the Passover. We are saved not just from physical death, but from eternal death and receive the life of heaven. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be your name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation. but deliver us from evil. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now in the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us in our hands now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, as now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of thy mercy. Our second meditation. Just as the Israelites had to sacrifice a lamb to be saved from death, in the new Passover, Jesus, the true Lamb of God, is sacrificed. But why does the death of Jesus take away sin? And how does it save us from death? To understand that, we have to remember that because of the fall, all humanity is born into the condition of sin. and through our personal sins we have turned away from god the source of life and the consequence of turning away from god is death not only physical death but spiritual death separation from god the source of life forever now on our own we can't repair this rupture and we can't restore the divine life we had lost. So how does the death of Jesus, the Lamb of God, resolve this? Because Jesus is true God and true man. In becoming man, he united himself in some way to every person so that what he would do would be done on our behalf. As the Catechism says, in his incarnate divine person, he has in some way united himself to every person. And because he shares our humanity, he can stand in our place. But because he's God, his obedience and death possesses infinite value. So by freely offering himself in love to the point of death, he bore the full consequences of our sin, our death, and by rising from the dead, he destroyed its power from within. That's how he saves us. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be your name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us in our ins noun at the hour of our death. Blessed art thou among women, blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us in the inn's presence, now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of thy mercy. Our fourth meditation. In the first Passover, to be saved from death, one had to pour the blood of the Lamb over the doorway. That was the first step of entering the Old Covenant. In the New Covenant, we also need the blood of the Lamb poured over us. In the book of Revelation, John sees Jesus and declares, He loves us and has washed away our sins with His blood. In baptism, the blood of Christ is poured over our body under the sacred sign of water, washing away our sins and infusing divine life within us. and through baptism, we are reborn as children of God and enter into his covenant family. As it was in the beginning, as now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of thy mercy. Our fifth meditation. Now in the first Passover, it was not enough to sacrifice the lamb. Only those who ate the lamb were saved. In the new covenant, Christ, our Passover lamb, gives us his own flesh and blood in the Eucharist to eat. In John chapter 6 verse 53, Jesus said, I tell you solemnly, if you do not eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you will not have life in you. But what does this mean for those who do not receive the Eucharist? Certainly, baptism cleanses us from sin and makes one a child of God. And the Catechism states, baptism is the gateway to the life in the Spirit and the door which gives us access to the other sacraments. So baptism really brings us into God's family. And the Eucharist is the divine food that sustains and perfects that life. Now while a baptized non-Catholic may be saved, the fullness of divine life is found only in the Eucharist. And that's why my heart goes out to my family and friends who are not receiving Jesus in the Eucharist. But what do I need to do? What is my resolution? I need to be more intentional about praying for their conversion. and I need to be more intentional about accepting trials and sufferings for their conversion. And I need to continue to build a bridge of genuine friendship with them, all the while begging the Holy Spirit for an opportunity. And when that opportunity arises, for the courage to invite them to become Catholic or to return to the Church through the Sacrament of Reconciliation So let not miss our opportunities Let have the courage and the love to take advantage of them Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be your name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us in her hands now and at the hour of our death, amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen. Teresa, before we jump into our conversation, I just want to remind everyone that every day during Lent, Dr. Troy Hinkle will be providing practical guidance to help you really live Lent well. And you can find this on our app. Just go to the community space on our app and join the Lenten mission. So anything strike you with this meditation, Teresa, or maybe some resolution that you had? Yeah, I'm always trying to figure out what the, how we do live our lives in community with people that aren't practicing the faith. And I think personally, I know a lot of people are really fighting that battle every day. And I think too often I accept where we're at in the battle. So I give up a lot of ground. Yes. And I think it's always good to have a meditation like this where I have to stop and take account of just this week. What can I do this week? What can I do right now? What steps can I take? And then reassess next week, but never to just, ah, maybe it'll be years from now. Maybe it'll never happen and I'll just keep doing what I've been doing and always instead reassessing because this is a daily thing. Yeah. And every single step forward is something as long as I'm not becoming complacent to that. That's the problem. We recognize that the conversion of our family and friends it's a long game but that long game can lull us to sleep yeah and so that we don't make the most of every play it's like it's like a football game it's four quarters it's a long game yeah but every play matters play every play well exactly i was just telling you i've been watching the olympic games and watching speed skating is incredible because they just don't even seem like they're moving like human beings they're just floating across the ice and you see them fall behind like you do in any race in track and things like this and then that push at the end everything is different everything is changed it doesn't matter how far behind and you have to stay focused the entire time because the slightest move of the muscle and someone loses ground or blocks the other and in that tiny split second they've been going at it for so long it's such a distance kind of race and yet a single moment decides it every day is a moment that could be deciding the end of this race but we always treat treat it like the finish line is so far away yeah it could be right now this could be our final push we don't know but gotta reassess think about what i can do right now. Yeah, that's it. My resolution has to be I gotta play this day well. Yeah. Because it matters in the long race. And then just wake up tomorrow and play tomorrow well. Mm-hmm. And then, with Our Lady, we will win. Cross the finish line. Thanks for the conversation. Thank you. Let's be apostles of friendship, good conversation, and the rosary. Share this with others.
