Summary

Joyce Meyer teaches on overcoming guilt and regret by understanding that Jesus paid the price for all sin through his blood. The episode emphasizes living in fellowship with God rather than under religious law, and moving forward by releasing past mistakes instead of dwelling on them.

Insights
  • Guilt and shame are spiritual weapons that prevent spiritual growth; understanding Christ's atonement removes their power
  • Proximity to God through fellowship naturally produces righteousness without legalistic rule-following
  • Distinguishing between healthy grief over wrongdoing and destructive guilt is essential for emotional and spiritual health
  • Speaking God's word aloud is a practical tool for combating negative self-talk and accusatory thoughts
  • God's forgiveness is complete and permanent; dwelling on forgiven sins contradicts the gospel message

We can defeat all of them and reach God's perfect plan for our life. Be empowered with today's teaching and learn to embrace God's fearless form. Peace, confidence, love and courage. Now, here's Joyce with today's teaching. Okay, now verse 10 is a big thing here. Verse 10 and 11. By the death he died, he died to send in his relationship to it once and for all. And the life he lives, he is living to God in unbroken fellowship with him. Now, there it is. The way to have victory over sin is to live in unbroken fellowship with God. Stop trying to live under the law and have all your lists of everything that you think you have to do and can't do. Otherwise, God's going to be mad at you. Lay the legal side. Lay that aside and realize that Jesus kept the law. He fulfilled the law. He's written the law in your heart. And if you fellowship with him the closer you are to God, the more you're going to know what is right and what is wrong. And the closer you are to God, the more strength you're going to have to do the right thing and say no to the wrong thing. I don't get up every morning now and worry about what I did yesterday and what I might do today. Did you hear me? See, I'm not only worried about what I did yesterday. I was afraid of what I would do today. Now, I don't have any fear of sin because I know it can't conquer me. I know that fear can't conquer me. The blood of Jesus is amazing. It's just amazing and I'm going to show you some scriptures in a minute about the blood and I've got an example I want to use but not yet. I'm trying to hold it back. Even so, consider yourselves. Now, here comes the thinking part, verse 11. Even so, consider yourselves also dead to sin. Now, I want to ask you, how do you consider yourself? Do you consider yourself dead to sin? Or when you walked in here, did you see sin as a big problem? Thank you. Well, you know what? Now, you know it's not anymore. You say, I'm dead to that. Somebody asked me the other day, well, if you're tempted, then what do you do to get beyond that temptation? God help me. Help me. Help me. Help me. I feel like knocking somebody's head off. If you don't help me, we're in trouble. I'm not saying that you can resist sin just on your own power. I have two things that I pray pretty much on and off all day long. all day long. It's like part of my breathing. Help me God. I love you Lord. Help me God. I love you Lord and I in no way shape or form. I'm trying to sound super spiritual but I have no idea how many times every day I say I love you Jesus or how many times I say help me God. That's about the only thing I know how to do. Love God and trust him to help me. I can't keep myself but he'll keep me. God knows my heart. He knows your heart and he's going to help you and you need to quit worrying about all that stuff that you did way back then that God already knows about and has forgotten by the way because when he forgives our sins he removes them as far as the east is from the west and what remembers them no more. So stop talking to stuff about God that he's forgotten. Well you know God when I was a teenager I had an abortion. Well that's not a good thing but that was then this is now. I'm sure you've talked to God about that. He's forgiven you. He's taken care of everything and I believe when you get to heaven you'll have a little baby that you'll get to meet and have a lot of good times with. Amen. Well you know I messed up this and I messed up that and I did this and I did that. You know and I'm not saying that we don't grieve over the things we've done wrong. I hurt somebody about three or four years ago and really I hurt them because it's really strange but I hurt them because I was trying not to hurt them. It was somebody that I knew that I needed to not have in my space anymore but I didn't want to hurt them so I kept letting them stay and it just got worse and worse and it just got to be a huge mess and when the thing was all over I felt I felt bad in my heart that at my place in ministry that I didn't have enough sense not to let that go on and it bothered me probably for two years but that's a totally different I didn't feel guilty about it. It just grieved me that I let it happen. So there's a difference in saying yes oh God I wish I wouldn't have done that. I'm so sorry that I did that. That's a different thing at that load of oh I'm a terrible person because I did that. I'll never get over this. Our feeling like God doesn't love you as much or God won't use you as much or your prayers will not be heard just as much as somebody else's. When we go to God in prayer we don't go in our name we go in Jesus name and when you go in his name that makes you equal with anybody else and you can pray boldly Hebrews 415 for we do not have a high priest who is unable to understand and sympathize and have a shared feeling with our weaknesses and infirmities and the liability to the assaults of temptation but we have one who's been tempted in every respect like we are yet without sinning. Don't ever tell God that he doesn't understand you because Jesus understands you. He came and he lived in a fleshly body and he understands everything you feel and what it's like to be tempted. Let us fearlessly and confidently and boldly how fearlessly confidently boldly grow near to the throne of God's grace that we might receive mercy and help for our failures and plenty of time to meet our need. I love that scripture. Jesus understands us. He gets it and even when you've done something wrong you can still pray boldly and confidently asking God to help you in your time of need. What did the apostle Paul said? One thing I do is my one aspiration forgetting what lies behind and pressing on to that mark of perfection. He's talking about just what we're talking about today. Paul said I see that mark of perfection. I see what I'm called to. I understand who I am in Christ spiritually and I want to fulfill all of that. I want to be everything that God wants me to be but he said the only way that I can make any kind of progress is by letting go. By letting go of what lies behind. First John 2.1 when I saw this scripture I was shocked and I mean I first saw this years and years and years ago when I was going through a lot of the stuff that I'm trying to help you get through today. My little children I write these things to you so that you may not violate God's law and sin. So obviously the whole Bible all the instructions is written to us so that we might not sin right. Isn't that the goal not to sin? I'm not if you realize that's the goal we don't want to sin we want to we're all in the same page we know that's the goal. The goal is to be Christ like to do it the way Jesus would do it. So he said okay everything here is written to you that you might not sin but if anyone should sin we have an advocate one who will intercede for us with the Father and it is Jesus Christ the all righteous upright just one who conforms to the Father's will in every purpose thought and action and he that same Jesus himself is the propitiation the atoning sacrifice for our sins and not ours alone but also for the sins of the whole world. I got more excited when I saw that than you are because you know in essence here's what it's saying look the whole goal is not to sin but if you do Jesus has already paid the price and all you need to do is sincerely go to him admit it confess it ask him to forgive you and to help you study and grow in that area and I can promise you if you will fellowship with God more and worry less about everything that you're doing right are wrong you're gonna grow grow grow grow that's all right I don't know you got to think about this I read Roman 6.7 and 8 till I think I think I wore the words off the pages I mean it's hard to it's hard to grasp sometimes when you got that religious mind when Paul gets into all the thing I don't want to do I do and the thing I want to do I don't do and well if if I don't really want to then it's really not me doing it and you know who is this anyway and I'm like gosh man you need some of my tapes and I mean I read it and read it and read it and read it and then finally then I got it my sins have been paid for God knew what he was getting when he called me into relationship with him he's fixed me I'm right with God I don't do everything but we've got right standing with God how could God ever expect us to do what's right if he didn't give us any righteousness so you've gotten rid of all your wrongness he gives you rightness for wrongness you're the righteousness of God in Christ it's not your righteousness but it's the righteousness of God that you have where in Christ and we keep moving toward that moving toward that moving toward that you see I'm excited about growing and every day I'm growing and every day I'm changing and I think God is cheering us on going come on come on you're going to make it come on whoo whoo come on a great crowd of witnesses have gone before us and they're cheering us on come on come on I bet you the angels are having a hoot party today over this meeting yes hallelujah teach them they're free from sin get them over that guilt so they can make progress hallelujah now the blood of Jesus Romans 12 10 we overcome him the accuser of the brethren has been cast out and we overcome him by the blood of the lamb and by the word to which we testify you got to learn how to speak the word of God out loud if you ever want to defeat these silly feelings that we live under and here's the way you start you got a problem with guilt next time you do something wrong which won't be long I mean you could go out to the resource table and get mad trying to buy the last series on love I don't know but the good news is that the holy ghost won't let you get by with it you're going to get liked it and that's when you say oh I'm sorry Lord my gosh and then the devil is going to say how could you sit in that meeting come on now this is the way where how could you sit in that meeting and you're not even out of the building you are never gonna change come on am I right and that about the way it goes you are never gonna change now that's when you need to remember what mama Joyce said and you need to say even under your breath devil I am growing okay we're doing this here we go Hebrews 9 12 he went once and for all into the holy of holies of heaven not by virtue of the blood of goats and calves by which to make reconciliation between God and man but his own blood having found and secured a complete thanks for listening despite the challenges we may face in life when we put our trust in God we receive an incredible promise from him second Timothy 117 says that we have not been given a spirit of fear but a power of love and of a sound mind this promise gives us the strength to look at our problems and know that God is on our side he wants to give us his peace as we face whatever lies ahead for more resources from Joyce visit joysmire.org get your daily dose of encouragement with the Joyce Meyer Ministries app catch up on seven days of enjoying everyday life episodes grow deeper in God's word with the daily devotional and question of the day and enjoy all your favorite teachings from Joyce in your digital library find all this and more with the Joyce Meyer Ministries app search Joyce Meyer in your app store and download it today thank you for listening to 50 minutes in the word with Joyce
