Summary

Felger & Massarotti analyze the Red Sox's 8-1 loss to the Houston Astros, criticizing the team's offensive struggles, poor roster construction, and questionable trades. The hosts focus on GM Craig Breslow's offseason moves, particularly the trade of promising young pitcher Kyle Harrison for Caleb Durbin, and ownership's reluctance to spend on elite talent.

Insights
  • Small-market team philosophy applied by big-market ownership: Red Sox ownership avoids long-term contracts and elite players, instead pursuing cheap young talent—a strategy that works for Milwaukee but fails for Boston's spending capacity.
  • Evaluation methodology flaw: The organization appears to evaluate players based on data rather than talent assessment, leading to poor trade decisions like dealing Kyle Harrison (a legitimate prospect) for Caleb Durbin (a fringe player with no ceiling).
  • Roster construction creates exposure: Without an elite bat like Yordan Alvarez, complementary players like Durbin get exposed, and the entire lineup struggles—suggesting the team lacks the foundational talent needed to compete.
  • Pattern of poor asset management: Multiple trades (Quinn Priester, Kyle Harrison, James Tibbs) show the Red Sox consistently undervaluing young pitchers and overvaluing marginal position players.
  • Ownership constraints limit competitiveness: John Henry's unwillingness to spend at the level of Yankees, Dodgers, and Mets means the Red Sox cannot compete for elite free agents, forcing reliance on a flawed player development and trade strategy.

is Felgren. Is your favorite afternoon show? Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Derby no for one. Ground ball to short. Correa two out two minutes, one on the first double play. And that is beginning to get very old. Again, they run around base first, uh, man on first one out fifth inning and then they get a little bit of a break. And then they get a little bit of a break from Houston Astros and David Brian says this is getting real old for games. This is getting real old, he says team broadcasters saying this is getting real old four games into the season. Loved it clipped it. Jimmy Let's play it. Let's open with it. Is this getting real old real fast mass already? Yes. One. Ground ball to short Correa 12 two minutes, and that is beginning to get very old fifth inning game for between that clip and the one we dug up yesterday, the old classic from David Ortiz to Johnny Miller. Are you panicking? Johnny? Yes, we can't play both of those enough until further notice. They might stink. Do you was talking about Caleb Durbin or the general state of the team? You it's the teams Murray? Yeah, yeah, I do because outside of Garrett crochet and Roman Anthony, who has too much pressure on him and has really been playing for a long time. What am I supposed to feel good about? What are the team broadcasters supposed to feel good about? What am I supposed to be? Optimistic about going forward because outside of those two players, they might suck. I mean, when you really look at it, you can say outside of Garrett crochet. Who do they have that is an established team. What do they have? I Chapman. Maybe maybe it's not a bad one. You know, there were a couple. You might feel good about William Ray who started to cut you off, but he's been streaky before. Okay, right. No, no, right. Not established. Right. Exactly. Not established. Roman Anthony. We all love not established yet. Yeah. So he's not. He's not close to his peak yet. Whatever I mean, given what we expected them. So I agree with that part last night. By the way, I think O'Brien was really good because to say so. And I the reason I say that is to get on a new player, especially is really pointed. And I don't think he would do that in the fourth game. Yeah, I'm just telling you what I think. Yeah, I'm not. So I think it was more general. I think it was more about they can't hit the ending Zen. There's no threats. It's just getting old and last night out pitched out hit out hit out. And I think that wasn't close. Not even close. And by the way, the guy on the other side, McCullers, he wasn't thrown 98 miles an hour. He was beaten you with breaking balls and mixing changing speeds, all the same stuff. Swarov's pitches with. He just did it a lot better than your guy did in your lineup. Miss some pitches when they had chances to hit them, not that there were all that many, but they obviously started to rally into the game. And they were freaking smoked. Is it four hits? 12 strikeouts. The plate disciplines horrific. It's it. You know, I get it. You can have there were some questions about it. There's anyone going to hit 30 home runs. It was the opening series and Cincinnati. Fine. Last night I was like, this is this is ghastly. They might be bad. So. Taking out. That it's a game. I'm not just jumping to conclusions on four games because. Honestly, I'm not. I had a feeling about Caleb Durbin the second you traded for him, so you can't accuse me of over reacting to four games when they signed Ranger Soras. We really liked it. I now I think we confused him with the other picture there in Philadelphia. I mean, I know I did. I said this was a game. They had two guys at the front of their rotation, and I think we might have confused one for the other. Although I remember Ranger Soras shoving the bats down the brewers, Throats in the playoffs last year. So I liked Ranger Soras. Okay, so maybe I am jumping the gun on what has happened so far, but. He was lousy in spring training. He got his face kicked in in the world baseball classic. And I think he's been a lot of players in the world. He's been a vacuum. His age. It's his last contract. What kind of condition is he in? Because clearly he wasn't ready to pitch in any form or on any level to start this year, and that should concern you that he's cashed his last paycheck and playing out the string as so many pro athletes do in every sport, and you got that guy. I don't know why you would feel good about the team. I don't know why you would feel good about the team. I don't know why you would feel good about it. So it's all just a long way of saying. Did the roster really improve? It got deeper in the pitching staff deeper, but did it get any better? No. And what did they really add? I mean, when you look at the guys, they added more of what they already had. They added more of what they had added. And maybe one of these guys swore is or gray will replace. What's his face? Geo Lido Geo Lido. Maybe. Uh but Geo Lido pretty decent year last year. Get an excellent year last year. When you look at the guys that they've signed that Greg Brezils off season so far Super off season, as Murray says. Yo Han Aviado. How do you look at the guys that you've signed on him for the during the off season? And you know why? Because he's a nobody. I don't understand. He's from where? Pittsburgh. Thank you. You've built a nice little NL Central team. I just want to tell you this guy from Milwaukee, Pittsburgh and St Louis. Yes. Yeah, all of a sudden the ML Central is the cradle of baseball talent swapping out. Bruce got David Hamilton running around out. That's the same thing. It's the same kind of club. That's what you built with a little higher payroll. A nice little NL Central team. He traveled all over the He traveled all over the country all over the country all over the country all over the country all over the country all over the country all over the country all over the So he releases the ball closer to home plate 95 becomes 98 last night. He's throwing 92 and a half And so I just I didn't get it. The other thing is he's a he's a career eRA guy of like four and a half So like that's the target That's what they're aiming for is a middle-of-the-road guy Who they they might be able to make better and then claim that he is a success story. That's what he is I I The game is about talent Baseball especially because at the end of the day, it's all individual matchups You step into the box against Oviado So whether you have a good second baseman doesn't really factor in on that a bet unless the boss hits a second base So it's all about individual talent and the Redsucks have taken themselves out of the market I'm sorry to go on and on here, but they've taken themselves out of the market for that elite guy So let me just ask you a simple question Your Don Alvarez is one of the best hitters in the game In 2024 he was healthy The Astros finished basically in the top 10 in the league in offense Last year he wasn't healthy. Where do you think they finished? So you're saying a singular guy can make all the difference in the lineup 21st Now he's back and he hits one into the you know to the moon last night was nuked So like it just a guy like that changes the whole dynamic Completely changes the team it allows the Caleb Durbin's of the world to exist An anonymity and you can shove him at the bottom of the lineup And he can hit his little bleaters and bloopers in the right center field go first to third hit 260 and no one gives a crap But when Alvarez is not there Everybody else gets exposed and meanwhile you're building this nice little nl central club Johan aviado from Pittsburgh 9 eRA so far this year and telling Alex Spear after the game He doesn't know why his velocity is down. Oh, that's good to hear Ranger Suarez 8.31 eRA when the last guy's left on the market Sonny Gray from the st. Louis carnaules only here because they not only did you get him from the carnaules? They picked up a big chunk of his salary. So he's here Caleb Durbin, Milwaukee Brewers who where they were all too happy to move on from Which should have raised alarm bells immediately and then William Contreras against st. Louis carnaules. I'm sorry Caleb Durbin 0 for 14 Wilson Contreras 1 for 12 Sonny Gray 6.75 eRA sucked in his start ranger suarez sucked in his start Johan aviado looks like he has nothing already That was Craig Brezl's off season Meanwhile on my second screen third screen last night. I had two baseball games and the Celtics on Last night between my phone my laptop and my tv very sporty night in the Felger house last night I watched Kyle Harrison of the Milwaukee Brewers strike out eight guys Over five innings give up one earn run lead off home run Give up a lead off home run and then settled in four hits over five innings eight strikeouts for the young left-handed pitcher that you got for Rafi Dovers And then for some reason Turned around and traded For Caleb Durbin. Mm-hmm You got to explain that one to me explain that one to me And I I'm trying because I'm fair I try and look at it from the other side. So like why would the red socks give up on Kyle Harrison And let me just tell you up front watching him last night. I It was good. He's 24 years old throws in the mid 90s He's working on his secondary pitches, but He's got good control Pretty big guy, you know decent size six two Pretty hard-throwing lefty with good control and is 24 years old and is working on his secondary stuff And looks like he's got some promise And cost you nothing He's a rookie country. He's got nothing If you look up his salary, it's 800,000 dollars or something like that Why would you give up on that? So I try to think about it like why Well, okay, maybe the red sock stated themselves. We've seen his stuff. There's no ceiling there Meanwhile, we have Connie early. We have Tolly We have still have Brian Bale. We have some young starting arms And this guy's going to be blocked by those young starting arms So We'll sell from a surplus and sell high on a promising young lefty Okay Caleb Durbin Caleb Durbin and Okay, now that's just not enough. There's no ceiling on that player Unless you just look at the headline of Caleb Durbin, which is he finished third in the rookie of the year ballading last year from walkie So you just automatically think hot developing prospect. Well, no, you have to look at him Look at his size. Look at his bat speed as you said, maz. Watch him Could it just be that He had a 4a player who strung together a decent year on a team that really knows how to maximize young fringe talent And That's what he is So just because he was third in the rookie of the year ballading you think he's some hot He's got ceiling that that player has no ceiling He has no ceiling It's a good way to put it. He might be a nice, you know, I think he's a nice complimentary player And when he's getting on base, he's a effort guy and a toughness guy and you'd like him on your team But he he has no ceiling as a high-end player. None So Kyle Harrison You traded devours and he was one of the returns wouldn't you just Also say to yourself, well That was such a controversial move And we've been hammered so badly for it. Why don't we just hang on to the young cheap hard throwing lefty And if he pops we can at least say and sell this to our fan base. Look at what we got back Why would you just do it for that? I I know that's kind of the wrong reason, but He's a young hard-throwing lefty starter Who cost you nothing? Why would you move on from that? I don't get it There's there's so many reasons to keep them. I'm not answering because I don't have a good answer for you No, but for the what you're that's basically what the Giants did they moved on but they got rafial devours, right? So there you can okay. Thank you mas exactly He was just it was a gear two ago. He was the top prospect top left-handed prospect in the giant system Who are the highly rated prospects in the game? And you got him for devours and he's had some health problems. He's recovered from him He's obviously major league ready. Watch him last night. That's a major league pitcher and with upside And it cost you nothing. Have I mentioned that and from an optic standpoint? You should hang on to that guy for at least a season or two just just to see it through Because if he pops you can say like you said, huh? See we did get a return on devours rather than nothing Or you just don't know what you're doing. Yeah, well it might be that and and maybe You're I'm just trying to think this through because it's really a cheap affordable young left-hander who throws hard and has a lot of potential and cost you nothing I just Why would you especially when you're trying to? Build the team a certain way financially Could it be mas that you're still chasing the devours thing and you wanted to durbin as a third baseman? So you could even make it a more stark answer for devours We let devours go. Yeah, we wouldn't pay bregman, but look at what we got at third base And you wanted to do that? I don't know. Why would you move on from that guy? So look if you're asking me my opinion, I think it's two things They don't evaluate the players. They evaluate the data. This is second time. You've done this. You gave us quinn preester last year Yes 13 and 3 with a 3 r.a on a team that won the most games in baseball and went to the nlcs Yep, and we got our bleep kicked in and whatever like I'm not and I'm not saying quinn preester some high-end guy either But why are you just giving us those pictures? Excellent question. I don't get it No, and they they they've whipped on a bunch of these deals really when you're starting to look at it They've whipped on you know, and I'm talking about guys coming in and going out Like you can look at both now and it is it's time to look at brezzo. It's a fair point Well, I don't understand the quick turn on craig on uh, kyle harrison Did he get hurt? Did he fall on his face? Did you get some return that you just couldn't refuse? Did uh, he take a dump in your corn flakes. What why would you got him? And he's ready And he he just checks so many boxes that you you would just say you at least hang on to this And you immediately flip them For a guy who has no ceiling in kaleb durbin because part of it is they got desperate at third base They lost bregman They ran out and signed suarez because they had to spend the money They had budgeted for the money so they spent the money on suarez and then they had to get a third basement in durbin's the best they could do Something like that is what I think happened chasing it something chasing chasing their tail. Yep chasing it They didn't want to pay for the bat. So at the end they said, all right, we'll spend some money on the starting pitcher ranger suarez who let's see Absolutely not ready to play this year on any front spring world baseball classic or for you Okay, that was a pivot. That was chasing your tail Your trade devils signed bregman don't want to pay bregman now. You're chasing your tail at third base. So you over pay For a little guy in milwaukee who just over achieved for a year and you give up a good young pitching prospect for it Is that what you're doing? I mean I this start I I begin and end with craig brezzelow and the moves he's made and what's behind them Is why I would start with this. So that's where we began. Where do you want to go to your calls right after these words? Belgeron mass continues on the sports hub Alvarez one for one a single I like this lineup more last year when he wasn't in it. He's kind of monster High fly ball deep down the right field line That one way into the corner and she is way out of here And a two run shot to make it three nothing And the three one from the left hander I drive at a left center field while struck satan turning around to look and it is gone And that will make it four to nothing houston Rice matthews with his first home run after masataki or she to hit for durbin swinging a drive here by al-tube He tags this one that one gone The astros with the third home run tonight Socks that one to left field that's up there and that is gone into the cropper boxes His second home run tonight home run number four on the night for the astros They weren't hitting home runs until tonight I Had a little shot there from devo brian you're not alvarez luke called it Think suarez was was unaware So the good news is I bet on alvarez to home her last night. I thought that was easy money I got lefty with a hanging change up or something in the middle of the zone and alvarez will belt it out of there I thought that that was easy money Six one seven seven seven nine zero ninety eight five rj on the cape go ahead rj Are j are we there? I got a lot of things to say about this red sox team first of all I think that everyone should have just stopped talking about them. Stop going to the games Stop doing everything. I haven't paid for one thing since I went to the wild card game Versa the yankees when they still cared about winning this front office does not care about winning one Iota they have no clue what they're doing mas you're absolutely right one back and change everything that you're not alvarez There's no reason why we shouldn't have one in the middle of our lineup. We have we have a bunch of guys I have no idea the name of their uh, who they even are Durand hitting third Uh, will will your brain use probably the only guy in romananthity that are in the spots they should be in everyone else stinks I don't know about stinks, but how do they build the team? Was it just reacting to things? Taking contracts over players Settling for this because you didn't want to pay for that I feel like those things is really how they built the team. No you hit on the three tenants Yeah, you hit on the three principles It was we're not going to commit to big long-term deals because there's dead money at the end and those are financial sinkholes So we're not going to do that We want to take young players who are cheap that we can tap into untapped potential And get a little more for our money doing that And we want to avoid it all cost superstars who are overpaid even if it's for a relatively short time So like just think of it in these terms Let's say pete Alonzo was here instead of Durban Wouldn't that make a difference? Yeah, or your anyosaurus? Yes. Like and look, I know Alonzo and and Durban out the same position I'm just going by what was available in the off season They've taken themselves out of the market for the guy that costs a lot of money They don't want to do it. This is what you get Matt in the truck. What do you got Matt? Hey guys, uh, oh brian's comment. I think it was wasn't a direct jab at Durban I think it was the frustration at the double plays that happened a number of times in Cincinnati Where they get someone on base early well matt and then I end up killing the inning and Durban is a hack I'm not defending him. I'm just saying I think that's what obrien was was talking about maybe Or maybe he was just echoing what everyone was thinking including the manager Because the next time Caleb Durban's spot came up in the lineup and the order you know who was hitting Oh Yoshida Yoshida Pinch it for he sat him as the last you saw Caleb Durban So whether Dave O'Brien on that one was said this is getting real old fast Whether that was directed at Caleb Durban the red Sox offense double plays either way I think the manager felt the exact same way for sure Yes, because the next time up someone else came in his place I mean again the I'm curious to see what the lineup is tonight, by the way I don't know if you're facing a right or a lefty, but is it just Time to stop looking at Caleb Durban for a little bit. Yes. Yeah, I'd give him a blow. Yep Dakota and brain tree. Yes. Guess who told us about Kyle Harrison first, right? That's right And you know why I figured when I told you that Harrison was going to be a front light star in this league And you guys said who the hell's Kyle Harrison? Well, that's what you've gotten Kyle Harrison last night The guy is legit and let me explain this Maybe the red Sox were listening to JP Richardi who said that Kyle Harrison will never highly even be in a starting rotation And Craig Pleasant road doesn't know what he's doing So he called up the guy that watched him every time he pitched out in uh in whistler. All right This is ridiculous and this Durban guy who I actually thought was going to be a decent player I don't know if he'd make a yawky league right now because he cannot hit the ball out of the out of the infield And Craig Breslow if this team doesn't turn it around and I know it's early. It's early Breslow needs to go he needs to go because they had options at third base to sign And if this guy that pitched last night Okay, Continues to mess up and they could have used his money to get a real third baseman and keep Kyle Harrison in this rotation You have to get rid of Craig Breslow this season's on him. Okay. Well, but he won't be the first to go He won't core will be you think so. Yep Cora is not even his guy He inherited him. Yeah, and I think this philosophy is what ownership wants, but this is what I'm but that's my point Murray that Cora is a made man with john henry. Cora survived different GM's it hasn't You know the coach the this is unlike the Bruins Yeah, the coaches go the GM stays and with the red socks the opposite the GM's are going the coaches thing I don't know of course in trial. I don't think he's in trouble. I think he's oh, I don't know He's a protected class when it comes to john. I think the front office guy Breslow is you know It's crap runs downhill. He can say well look at the plate approach right now If it's not Cora then Pete Fatsy the hitting coach. It's not going to be Good, but listen, it's not Breslow. It's going to be the first one to go He's going to say like look this I picked these players. They're the right players the manager's not getting through to them It's a bad approach that he's trying to teach them tell that to him bloom Tell that to Dave Dombrovsky. Yeah, I'm just going by the contracts. The core is up first I think and so and the other thing is I'll tell you the other thing I wonder about Breslow worked for Theo in Chicago. I think he was one of the guys that Theo recommended the interview They wanted them to come in and run the pitching operation And you could argue that the pitching operation has started to bear fruit I think could argue look obviously you've got early you've got tolly you get some young guys in the system So I think they're happy with their pitching operation and I think that Breslow would stay well I just the decision making on pre-ster and Harrison Are the two things I'll focus on guys that cost you nothing that you gave up assets for And before you even gave them a chance you just ditched them And they're winning, you know, pre-ster again 13 and three last year with a low three ERA And this Harrison kid last night looked pretty good And just gave him up for nothing and they cost you nothing or cheap What's the what's the thought? What's the evaluation there going on in this organization? That's what I would look at Yeah, it's a good look. It's a good thing to ask and I suppose if they're pitching you can always trade it I think I don't think the mistake was necessarily giving up pre-ster or even for that matter giving up Harrison It's what you got back. What what did you for um For pre-ster, listen to what you've got for pre-ster And again, I don't think this is a front of the rotation guy on a championship team But he's a serviceable starting pitcher in the major leagues and he was a first round pick a good depth guy And did I mention 13 and three with a three R. A for the team that won the most games in baseball last year for that you got minor league outfielder Yoferi Rodriguez A competitive balance round selection in the 20 25 mlb draft where the red sox selected marcus phillips And a player to be named later which this past may No may must have been the last year became John Holibets He's a CPA Holibet, you know, it sounds like an accountant. He's not an accountant exactly So in 13 and three low three era for a bona fide major league starting pitcher Yoferi Rodriguez a competitive balance round selection that became marcus phillips And a player to be named later in john holibets Kyle Harrison Okay, that's pre-ster. Harrison's 24 years old left-handed throws in the mid to high 90s and is developing secondary pitches and could really be something For that you got Caleb Durbin a Kid with no ceiling if you just watched him play Andrew Monasterio, don't forget him. He's got a little more upside than Durbin does even but it's like 28 Borderline but borderline guy like so who who's doing that evaluation? Excellent question. They've had they've had a bunch of those Like i'm starting to look at it and say and I understand they got garrick crochet back But it looks like Kyle teal can play with the white sox Meanwhile, you know marcello meyer struggling christian Campbell's down in AAA doing who knows what You you look at some of the other guys that they've cast off in certain areas and say as you pointed out A couple of the pitchers and say well, how come those guys are playing well there and they couldn't play well here This guy that they traded to the Dodgers James tibs that they also got in the giant steelford devers and who they traded then for dustin may What's his face? Yeah, he hit 246 with the red sox right now three games in he's hitting 6 36 The Dodgers AAA At Oklahoma City in the pacific coast league 6 15 average 6 43 on base 1462 slugging his ops is over 2100 and this is here's another guy to keep an eye on You know shame drohan. Yeah lefty under okay So he was another guy that the sox sent to Milwaukee for Caleb Durbin He'll be up winning 10 games before you know they really liked him They sent him to AAA to begin the year, but they really like them And the Brewers are good at this so i'm trying to tell you the Brewers do the small market thing. This is what they do This is what they're good at they're not going to win anything But making these little piddling moves is what they do. They're good at it You suck at it You're not you don't you don't You your owner want you to act like a mid market small market team, but you're not good at it And you're dealing with teams. That's what they do Don't let this shame drohan come up and win 10 games for the Brewers And now you've given them two good young left-handed pitchers For a fringe for a player at third base. Don't let that happen But if I were a red sox fan, I would be concerned Because the Brewers know what they're doing when it comes to this kind of crap you don't And it's already a weekend. You're already seeing it fact your calls after big jimari gets you updated We go we find we look at the goalie find Oh my god, Murray he sucks in the play. That's great. No, not a 8-5 wonderful. Good the sports hub The arrest affidavit was released or was gotten ahold of by the media espn.com among others Tiger Woods had bloodshot eyes and appeared lethargic when he failed several field sobriety exercises after crashing into another vehicle on friday Woods told a sheriff's deputy. He was looking down at his cell phone And changing the radio station and did not notice the vehicle in front of him had slowed down the affidavit said Two white pills identified as hydrocodone were found in woods's left pants pocket during a search after his arrest On suspicion of driving under the influence the affidavit said Woods told deputies he had consumed no alcohol But said he takes quote a few end quote prescription medications and had taken them earlier that morning Hydrocodone is a prescription opioid used to treat severe pain and chronic pain. Mass your thoughts. Okay, so Looking at his phone and playing with the radio Looking at his that sounds like an excuse that the guys that went to high school you with used That's what that excuse is. Yeah. Yeah, I had my head down I was looking at my phone because someone sent me something on uh on instagram. It was a dm Are you serious? This reminds me of do you remember when mov on mike? We're going back 30 years now Cracked up his car on route 24 coming back from the foxy lady. Of course. Do you remember this? Yes, of course And they asked him to take a breathalyzer. He refused and when he had to do a field sobriety test He was stumbling and you know what his explanation was? I just had knee surgery. So I don't have good balance Even though he had arthroscopic surgery like weeks before he got off He got off Now clearly this is some sort of legal employee or attempt to For woods to avoid a prosecution or service time or whatever the hell it's going to be. This is laughable Yeah, you're not surprised, right? No. No, I'm not remotely surprised. No, but I find it amusing I do looking down at my phone and play him with the radio It's sad It's sad Really? Like that. It's a you know, he just can't Bring himself clearly based on his behavior to address this thing head to head and now he's got a conjure up stories like this thing Like he looks like a clown He looks like a clown. Do you any updated thoughts on tiger woods Murray? Yeah As you said, he had two pills in his pocket while he was saying this I mean that has to be the go-to excuse for anyone that gets popped for any DUI. I was looking at my phone I was flutsing with the radio. I mean No one's going to cop to it because the burden of proof then goes on You know the state or the government to then prove that you were under the influence So I mean I understand why he did it He looks like an ass And there was something I read in barstool too that someone had quoted him or he had he had gone a record because people had said in his Life before hey, why don't you get a driver? And he said he doesn't want a driver because he didn't want him to see anyone anyone seeing what he does when he drives Which is obviously you're kind of telling on yourself there too. Aren't you by saying something like that? You know the other thing is they gave him a you know They gave him a sobriety test where he had to open his eyes and follow the finger and they told him You can't move your head. Just move your eyes and he couldn't do it Yeah So like you know he kept turning his head which to me is always the equivalent of Someone trying to read on a page with the finger because they just can't maintain the focus or have the command of it Not that it's totally but but he just couldn't do it You know physically he couldn't do it and so you know there's like we all know what happened here I don't think there's any question but the the the phone and radio story. Wow I think he also continues to just get a soft touch Which frustrates me And not that I you know this doesn't make him a horrible human being he's got a problem Like it's just obvious but you know the thing that I hear that I just think is getting him slack is Well, he had all these surgeries And so what do you expect? as that means Anyone who has a back surgery and it gets prescribed these pain medications 100% of you become addicts Us 100% of us become addicts I don't think it works that way. I think there's Plenty of people who have painful surgery and gets prescribed pain medication and come out of it the other side And aren't addicted to it. You know be an addict to anything. There's underlying Conditions, which again, I have sympathy for and I feel for and no one's perfect and all of this But just because he had the surgeries and his body was breaking down. It's okay for him to be doing this And that's crazy Just because you take oxycodone you're now an addict everyone I don't think it works that way and the big thing too is is he shouldn't be driving That's the big one because there are moments where he has to be with it And he by those moments he should be able to say I can't drive anymore. He's got a drug problem I mean, I just call it for what it is Not everyone who has back surgeries becomes a drug addict The underlying conditions that lead for you to be an addict Lead to you to be an addict whether you get back surgery or not And it's like no one wants to I don't say no one but like not it's just not Talked plainly enough He's a drug addict And so he's not a big drinker, but he doesn't have to be He's it's like being a heroin addict. You're an opiate addict. It's what he is and it's beyond and Greater than just the fact that he had surgery One of which he had surgery because he rolled his car like people wrap that into it too that oh, you got that old leg Didn't you have that? Well, how do you break his femur? Yeah, because he was banged up while driving He flipped another car. Yeah, and how did he flip that car? He was zapped out on the pain medication So like I still feel B It's just a real soft touch with him which not that he deserves to be vilified For having a drug problem. It happens to a lot of people. It's a human condition But let's again, I just would like to tell it like it is With tiger woods and everything in fact back to your calls in our long commercial free segment right after this So I would say my job is to get you to listen that is the job mission accomplished Take this job and show The sports hub And on the infield a one hopper to l2 bay kind of fitting with the night he had he makes the last play All night in houston and a rough starts for the red sox they fall here eight to one now one and three on the season And looking for the on switch on that offense says houston takes game number one Here he in the jaykin park your four games into it Obviously offensively not coming out the way you want to swing it But you are four games is the game of baseball you need that one game You got to get guys out here a little more relax at the play Going to be a little more patient looking for balls middle middle It's early. You don't like getting out like this kev. That's for sure But you got to grind out tomorrow face a very good picture get some fresh batting gloves pull your pants up change something up and then go for 22 years later. So if you're into it like that thing, I guess But I can't give you a single insight that he gives And he's such an insufferable suck up and why is he talking with a southern drawl? He's from la I don't even know that I don't even care. No that party find annoying too He's just So good you do that'd be like me saying this and i'm from boston, you know, he's just a cheerleader. He's just a mascot That brings nothing to the table on poms back to your phones. Here's greg and amherst. Go ahead greg Do you realize how useless you need to be for the milwaukee brewers to give up on you at 800 000 per year This guy blows And people need to stop looking at kreg bruh. It starts with john henry john henry is the one that puts the money on the table He used to do it. He doesn't do it anymore. The last clone sucked too. Thanks guys 800 000 dollars third in the rookie of the year From a small market team that has to watch every dollar And they were okay letting him go How does that not raise massive alarm bells? Well, it should because you know why i'll tell you why because you think you're Smarter than everybody else. So when you sit across the table from someone you think boy, they're dumb They don't know what they have we're gonna take it from them. Me. Mal. They're looking at you going these guys are idiots Kevin and charleston go ahead john. Kevin. What do you got? Hey guys, um, i've been listening to you guys for 25 years 25 years and i love your show and um I know how you guys operate. So please just let me finish my thought before you hang up on me, please um, I have a very specific question for maz My question is maz. What the hell are you doing trying to start a fire? Yeah, seriously filing your nails. What are you doing? I'm not trying to be a dead horse maz. But Go ahead. I'm not trying to be a dead horse. I'm not trying to be a dead horse here But maz my question to you is as someone who listens to your baseball show every night for the past 25 years What number do you think john henry will take? to um spend money on the team so i read a report he made hey kevin i i have to let you go Finish already especially since i wonder if we're being sexted right there Yeah You hear that oh, yeah, I know laden clear. Yeah, do you think he was He's got an old felgar and maz thing going on there. I don't know maybe he might be definitely buttering his bread there using us for uh Motivation I think he was working on some like a wood project now again. I think it was two sticks together trying to get a fire going in the woods Come on Try try and work with the modest question. You know he was going on jen henry. Yeah, what would he take to sell the team? Is that what he said? Yeah Okay, uh zero. He's not selling the team. They won't sell the team I mean don't think if they want to turn around right now and make a Tremendous profit. They could do it at any moment. Absolutely 100 percent. They paid 770 million for it. It's worth what? 5 billion now give or take something like that and look The see people keep missing this and I get it He doesn't want to spend money that right now. There's six in the league in taxpayer. If you go by that, okay So they're spending more than they did a year ago It's how they spend it that should drive you bananas The the spending power that they have Allows them to get players that few other teams can get the yankees the dodgers the mechs the cubs Those are the heavy hitters. They don't want to play in that poker game anymore They don't want to sit at the big table the high rollers table. They want to go play the dollar ante with murray Dollar three, baby. Love those tables. That's my kind of poker table two five at best and that's sad What is the point of having the spending power if you're not going to use it? The point is that you don't really care if you win at a high level or not So they just want to run the business Uh, we get back to your phones 90 seconds. No commercials just an update from big gem then right back to you. Don't go anywhere
