Summary

The hosts debate whether the Patriots can acquire a #1 wide receiver in free agency, with extensive discussion of A.J. Brown trade possibilities and Mike Vrabel's interest. They analyze whether elite receivers are drafted or developed, examining recent examples like Nico Collins and Kyle Williams. The episode also covers Super Bowl fallout, including criticism of the Patriots' performance and Jared Stillman's comparison to the 2006 Bears.

Insights
  • Elite #1 receivers are increasingly drafted ready rather than developed—recent examples show most productive rookies had 30+ catches, while Kyle Williams' 10 catches on 21 targets is historically poor for a first-rounder
  • Mike Vrabel's public comments about A.J. Brown suggest serious interest despite contract complications, signaling the Titans may pursue a trade despite the $29M guaranteed salary hurdle
  • The Patriots face a constrained offseason with limited cap flexibility, making a major receiver acquisition unlikely unless they trade Christian Gonzalez for draft capital
  • Defensive secondary depth (Christian Gonzalez contract negotiations) may be prioritized over offensive line upgrades despite Super Bowl performance issues
  • Boston sports media skepticism of the Patriots' Super Bowl run reflects broader pattern of comparing this team unfavorably to historical standards
Trends
NFL teams increasingly hesitant to extend rookie contracts beyond standard rookie deals despite peer precedent (Sauce Gardner, Micah Parsons)Elite wide receiver scarcity in free agency driving trade market speculation and inflated compensation expectationsCoaching staff relationship management with star players becoming public relations factor in trade negotiationsStrength of schedule metrics being used to contextualize playoff performance and team quality assessmentsPlayer lifestyle and off-field distractions being discussed as potential performance factors in championship-level analysisReceiver development timelines shortening—first-round receivers expected to produce immediately rather than over 2-3 year development cyclesContract negotiation leverage shifting toward teams using CBA provisions to delay long-term commitments despite market-setting precedents

Oh, right, of course, because I should know who that is. I don't care what you think. I'll tell you something that rubbed me right. I've never really tried to get focused. You know, I mean, if I shop at Neiman Marcus or Nordstrom or something, I've gotten to the point now in my life where if I want something, I can usually buy it. I don't, you know, I'm sure Richard Miller and Elliott and Matt Groh will work and do everything that they can to help us sign the players with certain exceptions. I haven't even gotten that far. If you like something, you just try to buy it. I thought it was Vrabel's best cut today. Ask about salary cap space and ability to go out and spend in free agency. And he says, when I want something, I just buy it. Okay, Tex, let's go buy it then, shall we? You like something, but it's going to be expensive. But you just go in and buy it? and you let all the nerds upstairs play with the numbers to make the cap number look the way it needs to look, and you're just going to buy it? If you just walk into Neiman Marcus like you and Gasper? Gasper definitely does. Ready for a showdown? Right here. So, okay. All right, Mike. We'll see. I do not think we're in store for a big offseason. I don't. I think the writing's kind of on the wall on that one. I hope I'm wrong. and I sometimes am when it comes to the Patriots and spending. But it doesn't feel to me like we've got much coming our way here. It's going to be a little bit of a financial step-back year. But they do have an issue at receiver because I think Diggs is on the outs and maybe he comes back at a renegotiated deal, but is that even if they came back with the exact same group? That's not great. No, based on what we saw in the playoffs, not good enough. You've got to get younger and faster at that position. Yeah, not good enough. Those guys weren't good enough in the postseason. So if Diggs is gone, then they really need to do something. Yeah, for sure. If he's back, they probably still even need to do something. Yes. I mean, if Diggs is your number two, you've got a good receiving core there. Sure. I think Diggs is like a perfect number two. Possession, can get open at the sticks, not relied upon for big plays, touchdowns, whatever. I think he'd be a great number two. But his postseason drop-off post-Minnesota playing there is a real thing. And it is because I think he gets, because he's the number one, he gets the big coverage, and I don't think he's that guy that can really break down serious man-to-man or, you know, extra coverage. It's just, but if he's a number two, he's getting the second corner, he's getting off coverage, I think he'd eat it up, frankly. So what do they do there? I'd still think trade is their best route, but keep going. And all the over, I mean, all the gushy, like over-the-top stuff on A.J. Brown, I mean, who's under contract for another team. So typically coaches won't talk about someone who's under contract, even just from a personal side. Let me give you an example. Vrabel number nine, Jimmy, from the original press conference. Vrabel number nine on his relationship with A.J. Brown and players. I think the relationship with players and specifically he asked about A.J. has meant a lot. I've watched him grow. I've watched him mature. I'm proud of him. Proud of the father that he is. I'm proud of the husband. and that has nothing to do with where he plays or where he played. So those are the things that are important. We reach out and text each other during the things that happen good to each other, and sometimes things don't go so well for the people that you're close with, and you text those as well. So it's a two-way street of support and reminders of what got us to where we are here today. So I'll tell you, usually a coach does not talk that way about a player on another team who's under contract in an offseason where he's on the trade block. The Patriots land A.J. Brown. I know it would be a trade, but that's tampering-ish. You know what I mean? Sure, yeah. How about that last part about when things go wrong? You tell him he wasn't texting him when the team was going down the toilet? And he says, yeah, A.J. Can you believe what these A-holes are doing? I know. Yeah, my God, your coach is a moron. And that offensive coordinator, wow, he's an idiot. I think your quarterback sucks too. So Vrabel loves himself some A.J. Brown. I'd be stunned if they gave up a first-round pick. I'd be stunned if they gave up a high draft pick. I'd be stunned if they gave him the full $29 million guaranteed on his contract. I think something's going to have to give there where it's a fire sale out of Philadelphia and a reworked contract. But it is sort of odd to hear. And then Vrabel did it again. He did a side table conversation with local guys, I guess. Rabel, table one on relationship with A.J. Brown. He kept going. You were talking about your relationship with A.J. Brown earlier. If not, Ben will ask me how I'm feeling. Make sure I'm feeling okay. That one day my voice wasn't up to par. You spoke about your relationship with A.J. Brown earlier at the podium. Yeah, and the Eagles GM basically asked for trade offers for him yesterday. Is that something you might kick the tires on? Well, I think that we'll look at everything that we can possibly look at to add to our roster. And, yeah, there's a lot of things that go into trades. There's a lot of back and forth and taking on compensation. and so I'm sure there'll be a lot of opportunities for us to talk about trades, not only this week, but as we prepare and get closer to the draft. Those are things when time ramps up. He wants A.J. Brown. He does want his contract. Right, exactly. I mean, again, which really shouldn't be a surprise. I mean, my guess is that A.J. Brown knows that, and I mean him personally, like knows it, probably still wants to play for Vrabel, all things being equal with other teams. Because, Mike, how many people are going to take on the money? In the NFL, it's not typical, especially with an aging guy who might be starting to slip. How old is he? It's going to be what? Is he 29, 30? I mean, I say aging, but in that league, that qualifies. So go ahead. I'm going to see if I can find it. Listen, just, you know, binary. Did the stove get hotter or colder for A.J. Brown? It got hotter. Like, I think. He blew some. some oxygen into it i absolutely did yes he'll be 29 in june aj brown's a real consideration he's got to give back some money on the contract which he i would never if i were an nfl player and i had 29 million guaranteed no sir you you we can maybe schedule it a certain way but you're giving me every dime of that 29 that's a guaranteed money the nfl is what it's all about so they maybe they extend the deal and guarantee you know a little more who knows uh maybe there's so i i i I think the A.J. Brown rumors got more life today with Mike Vrabel. One thing he said that bothered me that we've been kicking around here off the air is this thing about finding a number one receiver. I'm going to play that cut again real quick here, Jimmy, and that is the Q&A difficulty of finding a number one receiver, number two from the table. I think you said last year when we asked you about a number one receiver, like if you see any walking around the perfection center, let me know. So how difficult is it every year to find those guys? Well, not a lot of them hit free agency. Well, yeah, I mean, they're not going to be there in free agency. But you have to try to draft them. I think that's where a lot of them are, and you develop them. Some of them develop, and guys that transition in that position from year one to year two can be pretty special. Just, you know, it's a lot for these guys. Okay, so stop. So we started to say, like, these legit number one receivers are developed? Let's kick that around a little bit. Like, in my mind, Ijamar Chase was out of the womb. He definitely was. Justin Jefferson. Immediate. Puka Nakua. 1,300 yards, rookie season. The fifth-round pick, even. I know, yeah. He was a late pick. Developing. Like, either you're it or you're not. And then we said, okay, now let's look. because this show is diligent and researched. Fair, even. Never mind fair, but we put in the work. Mostly. I say this without sarcasm. I think we do. So let's try and find – give me some number one receivers who were quote-unquote developed. Devontae Adams. We came up with some. Go ahead. Devontae Adams. First couple years in Green Bay, not so much. Nico Collins. Nico Collins was another one. Do you have numbers to back that up? I don't know the Nico Collins numbers. Yeah, Jake actually had for us. Has had three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons. He had 446 receiving yards as a rookie, 481 in his second year. Taken 89th overall, so 20 picks after where Williams was taken. Right, so when he was a rookie, Nico Collins, he was targeted 60 times, 33 catches. For as Murray said, 446. Found a couple other ones. Roddy White, who was a late first rounder for the Falcons in 05, before he went on to have four straight Pro Bowl seasons, all pro, putting up over 1,200 yards. His first two years, 16 games each, 446 yards, 5.06, only three touchdowns in those first two seasons. 30 catches, 29 catches. Roddy White, what years did he play? He played from 05 to 2015. Okay, decade ago. The late Demarius Thomas drafted 2010. Decade ago and a half. His first two seasons, not good. 283 yards, 551 yards. Want to give me more examples out there? Felger at 95, the sports hub. Guys who were quote-unquote developed. Number one receivers who were developed. And by number one, you don't mean also first-round picks. No. You'll take guys. No. No. Anyone from anywhere, you could draft it anywhere, who after being quote-unquote developed after a year or two or three. It is, but it is interesting, though. outside of Nico Collins, all those other names, we're going back 10 years. We're going back. What year was Devontae Adams drafted Nikua you know Nikua wasn developed Nikua came right out of the womb Year one was an absolute stud Devontae Adams was over a decade ago So after Nico Collins give me a more recent vintage Oh, you know who? Antonio Brown. Oh, he was a late-round pick. A decade ago. Yeah. A decade ago. Was he drafted? Oh, yeah, it is a decade ago, right? He was late. You're getting older, Murray. You don't realize how old you are. Wasn't he like a sixth-round pick? He was a sixth-round pick, but yeah, 2010. 2010, decade and a half ago. I don't believe those numbers. 2010 is just a scant few years ago. I don't care what the numbers say. Murray, you are old. So I was going to say I'm on Ross St. Brown, but he had 90 catches as a rookie. He was a fourth rounder. In this day and age, this decade, in the 2020s, other than Nico Collins, is there a number one receiver out there who was developed? And then Rabel continued this comment. Let me just pick it up where we left off. It's a lot for these guys. And again, they go from the combine and the combine training to, you know, maybe not running as many routes or understanding defense. And, you know, once they get out there on the training camp, they realize, like, you know, this isn't combine training. And coverages change. And, you know, things that look like man coverage now become zone coverage. And things that are zone coverage now become match coverage. And, you know, there's just a lot of volume for that particular position. And so excited to see where guys like Kyle Williams go from year one to year two. Okay, so you can stop. So now Kyle Williams is going to be this guy? Okay, so you said Nico Collins emerged. In his first season, Nico Collins had, and you gave me this, I'm just repeating it, 60 targets and 33 catches. Correct. Which is nothing. So, like, you'd say, okay, they developed him. Two balls a week. Kyle Williams. How many catches he had all year? Five. I said seven earlier. It's ten. Ooh. On 21 targets. Give me another number one receiver who had a rookie year like that. Okay, so we gave you some of these. What was Devontae Adams as a rookie? Did you look it up? Oh, yeah. It was similar to Nico Collins, so I'll get it for you. Go ahead. So, like, give me a number one receiver who had a rookie year of 10 catches on 21 targets. Devontae Adams had 38 catches as a rookie. Okay. And I want to say Kyle Williams was healthy earlier. Was he ever hurt? Did he ever? No, I don't think he was hurt. He was healthy earlier. Yeah, I don't think he was hurt. Was he playing every game? He just suffered from suck. I think he sucks. I think the kid blows. And I think he's another whiff at receiver. I think Belichick's no longer here, but he might as well be because this is another in a long line of Belichick and his lieutenants work at receiver. I think Kyle Williams is the latest in that lineage. Tyquan Thornton and on down the list. Nikhil, Harry, Tyquan Thornton, Kyle Williams. That's what I think. But listen, like I said, if Vrabel thinks they can be developed and that's why he's excited to see Kyle Williams, year one to year two okay jake has found tyree kill fifth rounder 593 yards as a rookie and then close to 1200 in year two 593 tyree kill was definitely kyle will develop 209 tyree kill was definitely developed he was a pure road runner when he came out yep that's a good one no tyree kill again a decade ago yeah no it was a while ago yep but he's a good one i mean he he was not the route run like he had to learn all that he developed amazingly as a fifth round pick you'd say he came out of the woodwork you know nico collins as a first or second round pick you said like kind of expected i i don't know listen the whole uh well i mean look alec pierce is going to get paid as a one he had over a thousand yards this year the year last year 824 year one 593 yards 41 receptions two touchdowns columns at 10 when was pierce drafted he was so here's the other thing too i'm sorry but a number one guy is not just a well 2022 a number one guy is a guy that can get 100 catches i'm sorry it's not just that it's second round effect coverage yeah well okay rotate cover you know like uh influence a defense to get other guys open i if they're if If they're putting Kyle Williams on this list, man, God help us, please. Give me a break. I'd go back to the AJ. It's like they're trying to hit a scratch ticket with a guy. Go back to the AJ Brown stuff. They feel better about that. But anyway, there's that stuff. All right, I promise. Right back to your phones. It's loaded right to you after this. Now more of Melker and Merge on the Sports Hub. Oak and Hosnack. Go ahead, Oak. What do you got? Hey, Mike. I think that they're definitely 100% going to trade Gonzalez, and they should for two first round picks, maybe sign chase on or a couple of the defensive players that they already have and go after Brown or go after Crosby. They have, they need the picks. They got so many needs. They'd be crazy not to trade them. Okay. Listen, so I've said, I don't see them trading a first round pick this year. If they got two for Christian Gonzalez, I could see him trading one of them. Do you think Christian Gonzalez would get two first round picks like sauce Gartner did like Micah Parsons did yeah and if Sauce Gartner did then yeah Gonzalez would I mean I think the Sauce Gartner trade was an overpay but my answer is yes yeah I do I mean again he's got what's he two he's three years in now right yeah he would guess again yes I'm just yes listen I'd pay him but if they're not going to you're better off trading him and getting the two first round picks then going through some sort of contract nonsense and going back to that thing. Like, come on. As Maz said, it's one, the culture in your locker room. I mean, you draft, develop, the players do what you ask. They perform at a high level and you don't take care of them. That undercuts everything that Vrabel started to build there. Yeah, I disagree with the caller. And I know, look, the exercise is to think in the other. I mean, if they don't think they can sign him, even if they want to and they don't think they can do it, definitely trade him. You don't let a guy like that walk and get nothing. Well, that's not the calculus. To me, it'd be a holdout. Not that he's allowed to hold out, but one of these holdings, another never-ending hamstring, is the recourse. You want to go through that? Well, if you think it'll ultimately lead to a signing, then you do it. I just pay him. Hey, what were the receptions again for Kyle Williams? I had 10 receptions, 21 targets. And how many yards did you have that? 209. Okay. I mean, it's sort of close-ish. How about Chris Godwin? You'd consider him a one, right? Got paid like one last offseason. Was he ever number one, number one? I mean, I like him a lot, don't you? He's what you look for in a wide receiver. No, no, I like him. Anyway, third-round pick, 2017, although that might be too long ago. 34 receptions, 525 yards, one touchdown as a rookie. it ain't 10 10 catches on 21 so look i i think when we go through all of these every one of these guys had 30 or 40 cat 30 let's call it 30 yeah had 30 catches they didn't have 10 devontae adams one year i think had 29 okay but same ballpark 10 10 10 catches on 21 target and the targets are important too because it's like it's won a game they're not even looking at you the the year that Devontae Adams well I don't know where you're getting your numbers from his rookie year he had 38 catches the second year he had 50 I don't have 29 for Devontae Adams I got 29 from someone else the thing that I'm looking at liars.com where are you finding these numbers I don't know but if somebody had 29 38 for Devontae Adams is correct Nico Collins had 33 What Adams were you looking at? Frank Adams? Yeah, John Quincy. So, look, I said that they're all around 30. That's what the data shows. I'm speaking in generalities. They're all around 30 as rookies. His second year had 94 targets and 50 catches. So, did they develop Devontae Adams or Devontae Adams' rookie year where there's other guys in 2014 was his rookie year. Jordy Nelson, you know, like what did they have there? Were he just, well, anyway, I'm just a little dubious of the developing the number one receiver thing. How about Vic in Virginia on this? Go ahead, Vic. Hey, a first-round receiver never should be developed, but a second to the fifth, I understand being developed, but we need to go out and get a number one. just get Brady didn't complain when he had Moss or Mike Evans. This offense needs a number one receiver. Okay. I think AJ Brown is, I, I, Rabel, the way he talks about AJ Brown, man, that is some serious love right there. And then when he's followed up and asked about it, so a lot of things come into play, like compensation. He's directly talking about his 29 million guaranteed next year. Definitely. It's so it's like, it loves him as a man, loves him as a player. doesn't love the money that's where we're at like in that kind of obvious when davante adams was a rookie jordy nelson and randall copp or there you go like they combined for 189 catches uh thank you little packer point there here's bennett in walfame go ahead bennett hey mike how you doing hey um how you guys doing huge listening here i just wanted to ask you guys about this guy's claim on the Super Bowl pre and post Super Bowl what the players are doing the wives the girlfriends like how much validity we actually putting on that and I'm actually more disgusted that people bringing stuff like that but we were just outmatched and outplayed and it is what it is like we try it again and and you know we get better but it like what up with people just bringing up any type of excuse in boston and new england sports it gets old man i'm not sure if it's an excuse i think dakota was saying it's a bad look for brave old that he allowed this but i how much stock did we put into it i think you said 40 earlier lower okay a little lower the the only thing i'll go there with this stuff is digs digs you know fell off in the postseason he was pretty invisible in the super bowl and if he's got like and i know this isn't the only time this has happened so it's like this is pro sports and these are young men and so like this kind of happens but if he's got three different gals in the front row there he's juggling women he's juggling women and one of them's nikki Minaj was like, I don't think any... Cardi B. Right, I'm sorry. Cardi B. Same thing. I mean, like strong, you know, it's not just going to sit there and take it. It's going to be a thing. Type A. I wouldn't mess with Cardi B nor Nicki Minaj. I'm not messing with them. And you got different women there and one of them's Cardi B. Like, that might be a little distracting, is all I'm saying. It's like, where's your head at, Steph? You know, what are we doing here? on the most important day of the year and your professional life. Messing around with all this? Like, I think that's borderline fair to bring up. Yeah, look, again, it just means you're distracted and not taking it seriously. There's all of that. I get you. I mean, you know, but the thing about the hotel rooms, Dakota's got this thing about, seriously, like wanting to be the next Adam Schefter. Okay? It's always some sort of it. Now, sometimes he's right. I speak from experience. Was he right on the Francona thing? got him sucked. So strangely quiet back there from Stu. Suddenly he doesn't want to gossip. Go ahead. Go ahead, Matt. Keep talking. No, it's okay. Go ahead. Oh, no. So look, sometimes he's right. But on this one, do they really lose the Super Bowl because the wives were staying in the hotel? No. They got freaking squashed. Squashed. You wanted to tell me that about the 07 Patriots. It's okay. Now we can talk. They could have left the families in Medford for lack of extraction. They were going to get walloped that day. Joe and Dorchester on Alex Bregman's Instagram post. Go ahead, Joe. Hey, guys. So I thought that picture was so great. It was such a middle finger to Breslau and the Red Sox. And my initial thought was that looks like Eastern Germany when the Berlin Wall fell. Like, in all seriousness, that was it. And just a quick question on Mayer, too. Do you think that they're not playing him or kind of, you know, butsing with him because they don't believe in him? Or do you think they're terrified of how they handled the Campbell situation and they don't want to break him too, and now they're going way too far the other direction and just real slow with it? Thanks, guys. So, look, I don't completely rule out the second thing, but I think they think Marcelo Meyer is just a giant freaking 13-year-old. That's what I think they believe. And so someone said to me this morning, if you look at the mic'd up thing from spring training with Marcelo Meyer, he comes off as sort of, you know, too cool for school. I didn't feel that way watching it. What I did feel like is that he's kind of a prankster. And prankster is even the wrong word, but he's always kind of goofing around. And I know they just showed me the 12 minutes that he was engaging with teammates, but he's talking about a guy's glove looking like birthday cake confetti sprinkles. And he doesn't seem to be spending a lot of time playing baseball. Immature? Yes. Yes. Yes. So, now look, again, I understand it's a mic'd up thing. He was probably playing for the cameras. I get all that. But he just doesn't seem to be intense. He's just kind of goofy and having fun. And, you know, that's all well and good, but at some point, do you want to play in the big leagues or not? More Super Bowl receipts coming your way, unfortunately, right after Big Jim Murray gets you updated. Pilgrim? Useless and mad. His ass is freaking huge. The Sports Hub. I don't want to leave you hanging, so we'll do a mini lightning round. Excuse me, Tim and Nashua, go. So I want to talk about the offensive line and receiver during the Super Bowl. Both of them were affecting the game because Drake May couldn't throw. What do you think that they're going to do? Is it a free agency thing? Because they cannot let that go. both of those positions didn't get separation and didn't get any freedom for Drake May. Okay. Receiver we discussed. They might, they should do something even if they bring back digs, if they don't bring back digs, they really need to do something at the top of that depth chart. Yep. Offensive line. I don't think they're doing squat. I think they might sign a guard and move Wilson inside. And that's it. I think it's going to be Campbell and Moses again next year. Yeah. Something like that. I mean, they might draft someone in the fourth round. They might release a window cause he's too much money and bring in another guard. There might be a mix up there inside, but I think Bradbury's going to be part of the mix at somewhere. I think Wilson can be part of the mix and there might be a new guard, but the tackles are staying the same. Yeah, I would agree with that. I don't think there's going to be, but I wouldn't, it wouldn't shock me if they signed a middle of the road free agent on the offensive line. Right. No, that's what I think. Ryan in the car on Tatum. Go ahead. Hey guys. First time, long time. I agree. The perception stuff about Tatum sitting out is complete banana land, but an actual pure basketball point for a decent reason why to stay out. is he's been the number one to Jalen Brown being the number two for, what, five years? And him coming back after a year and taking the number two role, I'm not saying he wouldn't be okay with doing that, but it could just create a little bit of a weird dynamic, him not doing the number two role as well as you'd like. That's not a good reason. And you're a contending team with a chance to win a championship, and you're not going to have a guy come back because it might be weird that he plays a different role? No, that is bananas, dude. That's bananas. Yeah, that's not a good reason. The only good reason for him to not come back and play is that they fear there is, or they believe there is a higher risk of re-injury. Health is the only reason. Yeah, that's it. And if you wanted to factor in there out of it, so if it's a borderline case and we're not doing anything anyway, then you can factor that in if you want. But if he's ready, he should go. But especially when you're in the position you're in, then you have a chance to really do something. All those things should go out the window. All those little side considerations, those little drama points, those little things about how he feels or how it's going to look should be a non-factor in this. And if they are a factor, they should be managed. They shouldn't prevent anything. They shouldn't prevent him in any way, shape, or form from coming back and contending for a championship. Ron in the car. Go, Ron. Hey, really quickly, guys. It's just nuts that you can continually talk about first-round wide receivers. go get one, go get one. There wasn't any out there. You got two guys, Tyreek Hill possibly, A.J. Brown, and did you watch the playoffs when he dropped five passes and nobody was there? Not really a number one anymore, is he? And he's overrated. Two, how do you not blame Brable if he allowed families in that hotel room? No coaches doing that. And if that actually happened, absolutely that changes and changes things. If that was better, you'd rip them apart. Well, listen, Ron, this is what I said. First of all, I'm not taking Dakota's word for it. And two, I don't know what the – you're telling me that never happens? Okay. I mean, do I care enough to ask around? Maybe. I don't know. I don't know what to do with that. If it was a close game where they lost by a play here or there and they looked like they might have lacked focus on that play, then okay, we'd maybe have more meat on the bone. They got waxed. I know. It wouldn't have mattered. Okay, but would it still be the wrong thing? Like, okay, it wouldn't have mattered, but we're assessing Vrabel in the program. We assess everything that he does, good and bad. He's a player's coach. Is that taking it too far? Well, I need to know how everyone else in the league does it. Me too. I don't know. Did Andy Reid do it with Kansas City? Right. That's what I want to know. You know, you tell me. I don't know. Ski and Weston on Christian Gonzalez. Go ahead, Ski. Gonzalez had an incredible playoff run. regular season was okay i'm not sure if i want to sign this kid to a long-term contract okay ski i think the team might agree with you or i i don't know i'm not sure exactly how convinced the team is on chris gonzalez i this i feel really confident they really don't want to pay him a lot of money before they have to and they deem the three-year thing not having to just because other teams did it doesn't mean we have to. I'm sure that's the way they think. The CBA is written a certain way. The contracts are written a certain way. We don't have to determine. We don't have to pay you. Well, frankly, we get you for a fifth year if we exercise the option. The option is due here. We owe you this over the first four years, and then we have by this date to give you a fifth-year option that's worth that. That's what we're responsible for. Now we're responsible for paying you after year three just because the Jets did it with Sauce Gardner? No, we're not. I'm sure that's how they think. I just don't know how that's going to go over with Gonzalez. I have a sense it doesn't go over well. I mean, that would be a bad play by the Patriots. So, again, like, you know, it is a, you know, it's a high injury profession. So, what, you're going to tell the guy no when other teams have now set this standard? You got an issue, take it up with the other owners. Pay the man. Here's an option for you. Do you want to hear Jared Stillman telling Patriots fans to go F themselves? or do you want to hear three drunk guys? Felger and Maz has three drunk guys at a bar. Oh, I got to go with Felger and Maz drunk. I'd like to hear Stillman rip Patriots fans a new one. Can we do a little of each? We can save one for tomorrow. Well, yeah, we'll get to both, but you tell me right now. We have time for one. We teased Stillman yesterday. Okay, Super Bowl receipts. Jared Stillman, your guy from Nashville. Boom. This is what happens when you lose the Super Bowl. All the crap that was going around the week and months before comes back at you after the game. Yesterday you had to hear from Chris Sims. Now you have to hear from Jared Stillman, our guy in Nashville. Go ahead, Jimmy. But what really pissed off the fans in New England was when I compared this Patriots team to the 2006 Chicago Bears and oh my god the incessant whining on social media of these Patriot fans I owe an apology to you people to you Titans fans because I get on you people when you people get mad at me for saying things like, you know, by every metric, Cam Ward wasn't that good last year. Or you do know Robert Sala, the great Robert Sala you just heard, you do know he was 20 and 36 with the Jets. Because sometimes some of you people ignore that. But you people are nowhere near as annoying as these Patriot fans that yesterday were like, oh, my God, he compared to the 2006 Bears, this guy. He's a fat, slob, hot take artist. He doesn't know what he's talking about. he's just trying to get a rise out of people he's just you you do know the 2006 bears scored 27 points a game the 2025 patriots score 29 points a game not much of a difference both were second in the nfl in scoring offense the 2006 bears had a strength of schedule and i don't exactly know what this metric means but a strength of schedule of minus 2.85 which means they had an easy schedule the 2025 Patriots have a strength of schedule of minus 4.49 almost doubly as easy as that Bears 2006 schedule and not only that do you know who the Bears had to be in order to get of the Super Bowl, they had to beat Drew Brees and the Saints. You know who the Patriots had to beat? Jarrett Stidham. The reason these Boston fans are just so angry when it comes to me saying like, hey, this Patriots team, the real Super Bowl was held in Seattle two weeks ago between the Rams and the Seahawks and Sam Darnold threw for 364 yards and three touchdowns. The reason they're so upset about this is because it destroys this fantasy they're living in that the great Mike Vrabel and the great Drake May and the great Josh McDaniels are all just superhuman and Belichick has been reincarnated. Vrabel is a good coach. It would not surprise me. I said this when he got hired wherever he was going to get hired. It would not surprise me if Vrabel goes somewhere and wins. But to act like the Patriots are in the Super Bowl because Mike Vrabel is Jimmy Johnson with the Cowboys is absurd. And the New England fans, look at my Twitter mentions. Holy s***. And then there's like New England media people that should know better. That they're just like, Jared Stillman's just a troll. He's just pissing people off. He's just. No. compare the numbers i actually have my friends over at sumer sports i asked them i said go compare the 2006 bears and the 2025 patriots because i think they're shockingly close the thing is is people get upset about rex grossman being a quarterback drake may is better than rex grossman but that team with rex grossman a quarterback was second in the nfl in point score so i gotta quit your bitching sorry sorry jim so quit your bitching uh this is why yeah listen i I thought it was a show, and he said the Patriots are the 06 Bears, and the NFC title game in 06 was like this past AFC title game. I said, that's a shot. That's not being fair. Well, you're going to lose a game like you lost that game. You're going to hear it again. You're going to hear it. Yo. Sorry. The 06 Bears went 13-3. And scored the second most points in the league. They were pretty good. Against an easy-ass schedule. I mean, they had a suck quarterback, but 13-3 is 13-3. They beat Drew Brees in the AFC title game, which is more than Jared Sinem, But I venture to guess it was at home and it was cold as balls. And the Saints came out of the dome and they're not shriveled. And that's how the Bears got through. I can't remember the game, but you tell me. I don't remember the game either. Anyway, that's what happens when you lose that game. No. Sorry. It is what happens. No. Email the day. So quit your bitch. Sorry, Jared. Go ahead. Quickly. It's the Coleman electric email of the day. Come here, Felger, I really hate you. And I think Maz is a boo. Oh, my. It's electric. The Coleman Electric email of the day. It's electric. Send yours to Felger at 98.5thesportshub.com. Made me think back on the Lake Tahoe slow motion bit that Murray brought up a few years back. Can you revisit that and please play it for the listeners? So this is why, so we don't have time to do both. We'll give you a little sample here. What made this funny is that Murray's friend was listening to our podcast one day and was listening to it and said, oh, my God, these guys are not right. He felt like he actually felt like picking up the phone and calling Murray and saying, you guys okay? Have you guys been drinking? You guys have been drinking before the show. Are you okay? What's wrong with you guys? And they looked at his phone and realized he had accidentally put it at the half-speed setting because this is Felder Gremant. I was drunk at the bar. Quickly, just go ahead. They've sort of watered it down with the stadium series, But this is different. This is not in a stadium. This is like in the middle of the mountains in Lake Tahoe. Have you seen some of the photos? I was just going to say that, Murray. Go ahead. It looks like a rink in the back of some rich guy's giant yard. It looks really cool. It's awesome. So there's just a sample. Yeah, there's a... Lake Tahoe is basically... Yeah, pretty much. Yeah, I mean, when the initial sketches came out, I went, that is cool. That's a sample. I think we have a good slow laugh of Murray in there somewhere, too, don't we? We're drunk guys at the bar. All right, shall we do the final word there, Jimmy? Hey, it's Felger here. Now on Felger and Maz. It's the final word. Recapping this four-hour show in four minutes, which leads to the question, does it really need to be four hours long? No. Here real quick before you do this, I want the TV audience to know the Felger and Maz off-air show returns tonight on our YouTube channel coming shortly after 6. Special guest tonight, Bob Lobel. Oh, good one. That's cool. Myself and Bob Lobel do it. We actually taped it last night. So it's going to be, Jake recorded it, and they're going to air it and launch it, whatever. Post it, 6 o'clock on the Felger and Maz, or what I mean to say is 98.5 The Sports Hub YouTube channel. Myself and Bob Lobel. Bob Lobel launched a new YouTube channel himself, Front Row Sports, where he goes over a bunch of old stories from back in the day, inside stuff that no one has ever heard before. So I sit down for 20 minutes with Lobie and do a little chinwag. Bob Lobel on the Belgrimaz Off-Air Show YouTube channel coming your way in just about five, six minutes. Beautiful. Final word brought to you by Town Fair Tire. If you're looking for the best deal on tires, only one place to go. Town Fair Tire, the best prices and great free services. Nobody beats Town Fair Tire. I was looking at the internet to find out the information that Mavs was looking for about distance from the basket and all that stuff. And I found something, and I'll give you the website. It's not too hard, but it's a little bit long. Here, hold on one second, Jimmy. Can you stop it right there? Because this is when my father would say, do you have a pen? Yeah, right. Do you have a pen, Mike? Do you have a pen? Yeah, Rock, I have a pen. Yes, I have a pen. I'm writing this down. Okay. I actually started typing in the website as the guy said. This is when Graham says, do you have a pen? Yes, yes, yes, Dad, I have a pen. Go ahead. And I found something, and I'll give you the website. It's not too hard, but it's a little bit long. www.nba.com slash stats slash teams slash shots hyphen closest hyphen defender. And I think that that leads to, it's like a tip of the iceberg. I think it leads to an enormous number of statistics of the kind you're looking for. And I'm not sure that that one is going to give you the things that, the specific situation that you're looking for. But it's in something called NBA Advanced Stats. Jonathan. Just amazing. John, thank you. Got it. I found it. I was typing him while he said it and I got it right. The only thing missing was the HTTP colon slash. Listen, I'm an old. WWW. You know you're really dealing with a WWW. Yeah, it's WWW. Yeah, thank you. Yeah, I get that part. But, Jonathan, thank you for the tip because we did go on the site and we got some good stats. Yeah, man. I did. I found it. I found it. All right. Here comes Joe Murray's coming by at 6 o'clock. I'm sure we got Celtics at Nuggets. Good one tonight. It was a good game tonight. Here on the network. We'll be back tomorrow at 2 to talk about that. Tears, five questions, a whole Thursday. Tomorrow's Thursday, right? It is. The usual Thursday rigmarole tomorrow. And you. Maz is tears. We'll talk to you then. Bye-bye. See you, Mike. I found it. Hey, stay tuned for more Felger and Maz, okay? Thanks.
