Live from NPR News in New York City. I'm Doua Lisa Kowtow. A preschooler and his father who were arrested during President Donald Trump's latest immigration crackdown are back home in Minneapolis after a federal jud ordered their release. As Matt Sepik of Minnesota Public Radio reports, officials at the boys school say federal agents tried to use him as bait to lure other adults outside.

Liam Conejo Ramos was photographed wearing a blue hat with bunny ears and a Spider man backpack when masked ICE agents pulled him from his dad's car on January 20th after school. Local school officials say agents led the 5 year old to his front door and directed him to knock to see if anyone else was home. ICE flew the boy and his father, Adrian Conejo Arias, to a Texas detention center. In ordering their release Saturday, Judge Fred Beary called the move a perfidious lust for unbridled power that's, quote, bereft of human decency. Attorneys say the family from Ecuador is focusing on finding peace. They entered the US legally in 2024 to seek asylum, their lawyers said. For NPR News, I'm Matt Sepik in Minneapolis.

House Speaker Mike Johnson says he expects lawmakers this week to vote on a nearly 1.3 trillion doll bill to fully reopen the federal government. But there is one area of disagreement with Democrats funding for the Department of Homeland security. Speaking to NBC's Meet the Press, Johnson says Republicans will fund all federal agencies and then negotiate with Democrats.

Well, let's say I'm confident that we'll do it at least by Tuesday. We have a logistical challenge of getting everyone in town. And because of the conversation I had with Hakeem Jeffries, I know that we've got to pass a rule and probably do this mostly on our own. I think that's very unfortunate.

He says they'll have two weeks of good faith negotiations to finalize changes to DHS before funding all agencies can be complete. Israeli authorities say preparations are underway to reopen Gaza's main border crossing. Reopening this gateway is a major step in advancing the ceasefire agreement. As NPR's Daniel Estrin reports, the Rafah.

Egyptian authorities, Palestinian security officers and European Union border patrol officers are making final arrangements to reopen the land crossing. The Palestinian committee tasked with taking over Gaza's day to day affairs says Palestinians will begin to leave Gaza Monday. The numbers are expected to be Limited. Only 50 medical patients daily, accompanied by 2 compan. Gaza health officials say 20,000 medical patients need to travel abroad for treatments unavailable in Gaza. Carlos Alcaraz has become the youngest man to complete a career grand slam. You are listening to NPR News from New York city. More than 18,000 flights have been delayed today and over 1700 cancellations at US airports, including at Charlotte Douglas International. Extreme winter weather conditions made runways and roads too dangerous to travel on. A ground stop was ordered on American Airlines flights in and out of Charlotte yesterday. In Mississippi, Governor Tate Reeves said at least 23 people have now died in storm related deaths from Holly Springs to cities in neighboring Tennessee. Thousands of customers are still without electricity due to a power grid that has been broken from last month's winter storm. And the Grammy Awards are taking place in Los Angeles. And there's an LA native leading the nominations. The rapper Kendrick Lamar, who took home the most trophies last year, could be the night's biggest winner. NPR's Isabella Gomez Sarmiento reports.

Kendrick Lamar is nominated for nine Grammys total. That includes Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Album of the year. If Lamar's album GNX wins, it will be the first time in 22 years that the Recording Academy Awards album of the year to a hip hop record. The last time that happened was in 2004 when Outkast won for Speaker Box the love below. The other Album of the year contenders who could break that streak are Tyler, the creator and the duo Clipse. Other competition in the big categories includes Sabrina Carpenter, Lady Gaga and Bad Bunny. Isabella Gomez Sarmento, NPR News.
