Summary

The Dan Patrick Show's final hour covers Super Bowl LIX analysis, with focus on Seattle's dominant defensive performance against New England, Drake Maye's struggles under pressure, and broader NFL trends including quarterback contract negotiations and Olympic coverage from Milan.

Insights
  • Seattle's pass rush (78% of poll credit) neutralized New England's offense by hitting Drake Maye 11 times with 7 different defenders, forcing poor decision-making rather than relying on offensive dominance
  • Drake Maye's pre-game shoulder injection may have compromised his ability to feel contact and adjust in the pocket, raising questions about medical decisions in high-stakes games
  • Sam Darnold's Super Bowl victory demonstrates the value of quarterback contract flexibility—accepting $35M instead of $50M+ allowed Seattle to build a complete roster
  • Defensive excellence and special teams execution remain more predictive of Super Bowl success than offensive firepower, evidenced by Kenneth Walker Jr.'s 135 rushing yards
  • Media and fan perception of young quarterbacks can shift dramatically after playoff performance, with Drake Maye cooling significantly despite MVP consideration weeks prior
Trends
Quarterback contract market bifurcation: emerging stars choosing team-friendly deals ($35M range) over max value to enable roster constructionDefensive pass rush sophistication: coordinated multi-defender schemes targeting specific injury vulnerabilities rather than pure pressure tacticsOlympic medal manufacturing quality issues: two-piece medal design causing failures during award ceremonies, raising brand/quality control concernsSuper Bowl commercial effectiveness decline: shift toward nostalgia/emotional manipulation and forced humor replacing memorable, shareable creativeWinter Olympics production challenges: logistical issues with medal ceremonies and athlete safety protocols emerging early in competitionNFL playoff performance as quarterback perception reset: single-game performance overriding season-long narrative in fan/analyst evaluationDefensive coordinator strategy: conservative play-calling in Super Bowl despite roster advantages, limiting offensive adaptation opportunitiesSpecial teams undervaluation in MVP/award discussions: critical impact on game outcomes not reflected in individual player recognition

Final hour on this Monday, best and worst of the weekend, we will give you hours coming up. Was there a memorable play when we look back on this Super Bowl 10 years, 15 years down the road? Will there be a singular play that we remember? By the way, the Olympics have started in Milan, northern Italy, experienced the world's biggest show, prime time on NBC in Pekai. In fact, Mike Turico is in the air in a private jet going from San Francisco to Italy, where he will be hosting part of the Winter Olympics there, watching Lindsey Vaughn and breaking her leg. And I wondered if she should have been competing anyway. If you consider trying to go down those mountains at those speeds anyway, she's 41 years of age. And then you tear your ACL. Are you favoring it? Can that ACL hold up at all? It's been a great story. But all of a sudden, you know, tripped up and then broke her leg and ends a great story of the potential. Well, the comeback was she did make the team and got to Italy. But that was one of those where when she fell, you knew it was serious. All right, 877-3DP show, email address, cpatdampatrick.com, Twitter handle at DP Show. More phone calls coming up. Drake May, after the loss last night, spoke to the media and talked about what this meant. You know, it definitely hurts. It's been a long ride. They played better than us tonight. They deserve it with that game. And speaking for the whole team and myself, just know where a journey has been for us. I love this team. Love those guys in the locker room. We'll leave it all in the field. And I know a lot of guys did that tonight. And just came up short, didn't play our best. And that's what happens. No inside knowledge on this. But I wouldn't be surprised if you hear that he's having some minor shoulder surgery. He got shot up before the game. We found out after the game. And I don't know how that impacted him. He said he wasn't feeling anything. If you've ever been shot up with any kind of painkiller, even if it's cortisone, but they're shot up with something that's a lot heavier there. And he said, I don't feel anything now. I don't know if it affected him or not. The reason why I was surprised that if you had your shoulders shot up, you're kind of putting him in a position where he's a sitting duck back there. I have to have everything quick. I don't want anybody to get a free run at him. And they'll go after that shoulder. So once again, I didn't understand the offensive philosophy. I'm going to give Seattle a ton of credit with how they went after Drake May. I was just surprised that Josh McDaniels, the most experienced offensive coordinator, Super Bowl history, wasn't changing things up. Or I didn't, from my vantage point, see that there was anything else going on. Run the football. It felt like they got away from the run pretty early. And now all of a sudden, Seattle was coming. And Seattle realized, maybe New England's not changing back. But I never would have had him back there, because they didn't have a deep threat. I don't have to have him back and biding time to be able to throw something deep. It's got to be short. I got to keep it short. Screen passes, run the football, something that takes away from Seattle's pressure. Because Seattle was just going, all right, who wants to run in and tackle him? OK. But I thought it was an incredible defensive performance. And I know we get caught up in, was it a good game? Was it exciting? It's like when a pitcher throws a shutout, and you go, was that exciting? Well, it depends on how you look at it. I thought it was impressive, maybe not exciting, but impressive, what they were doing, how they were doing it. Even New England's defense. I mean, that was high-end defense on both sides. And New England keeping the Patriots in this game, because they're only giving up field goals. It felt like Seattle should have been up 35 to nothing. But it's 12 to nothing. And you're thinking it's just close enough. If something falls your way, now all of a sudden you might get a little momentum. Seaton, what's the poll question for the final hour of the program? Yeah, we got three of them up there right now. Which unit deserves the most credit for Seattle's win? The Pass Rush Secondary Run Game or Special Teams? The Pass Rush has 78% of that poll. You want to guess what's in second place between Secondary Run Game and Special Teams? Special Teams. Special Teams and Secondary are actually kind of tied, Michele, it's Special Teams. You guys are real football players, for sure. Here's one from Paul Papst. Which fan base feels worse today? Patriots, Bills, Broncos, Vikings. The Vikings currently leading that poll with 34% of the vote. I don't think Patriots fans should feel bad today at all. And then what actually decided last night's game, the Seahawks Pass Rush, the Patriots offensive line, Special Teams or coaching, that Pass Rush, 67%. You can't have a Pass Rush without a bad offensive line, can you? Certainly helped. Yeah. So no doubt about that. Yeah, yeah, Paulie. They hit Drake May 11 times, seven different players on their defense hit Drake May. Kenneth Walker Jr., the third, rushed for 135, most by any player since Terrell Davis had 157 in the Broncos Super Bowl. That's where you go back to. That was about defense and running the football. There are numerous occasions. Now, there have been times when you go, oh, they won that because they were throwing the ball. Being able to run the football and play good defense. And then you throw in Special Teams. I mean, go back with the Patriots. I mean, they had Adam Vinitieri to go along with a very good defense. When Brady first won, they didn't win because of Tom. They won because that defense. And you had Adam Vinitieri. Having that, if you can get any kind of representation in those categories, and it's at a higher end than the team you're playing, you're going to win. And then no turnovers. The fact they went the entire postseason with no turnovers never happened before. Todd, best and worst of the weekend. Are we keeping it to Super Bowl? Can I go off the board? How do we want to do that? Whatever you want to do. My best of the weekend, the NYU Women's Basketball Team broke a Division III record on Sunday. They took down Carnegie Mellon Sunday to make it 82 straight wins go violence. So that was my best of the weekend. Worst of the weekend was mentioned earlier, also sadly. Seth Trimble hits a game winning three for North Carolina. Beats Duke 7168. Biggest comeback over the Blue Devils in the past 25 years. Sounds like a best, but Duke coach John Shire says some of his coaching staff were punched in the face during the court storming in Chapel Hill. Seaton, best and worst of the weekend. My best of the weekend was actually the flyover before the game. God, that was the one, the camera work was absolutely spectacular on it. And for some reason this year, it really dawned on me just how many things had to time out exactly right in the lead up to that flyover, where those planes flew over just as the anthem is like sort of crescendoing was absolutely spectacular. And the camera work on that was really, really great. My worst of the weekend was actually the commercials. I'm not necessarily a commercials guy. I don't mind them either way, but I do expect them. It is something that I sort of look forward to. I really didn't feel like this year got it at all. Yeah, it didn't feel like there was that, oh my God, that. Like you'd be talking about that commercial today. Because there wasn't one, even the Goodwill Duncan, you gotta have Matt Damon in the role because he's Goodwill hunting. And then you throw in Tom Brady and then Ben Affleck and Jennifer Aniston cameo and it was like, oh, okay. Yeah, a little star power here. All right, it was okay. And it feels like in years past, they would have just actually gotten all of those people to be in the commercial rather than the sort of AI generated version of them. Yeah, I don't know if there was a commercial where I went. Okay, like the Kevin from the office, I thought that that was a clever one. And then there were a lot of Kevin, Brian Bumgarner. There was a Kevin lookalike contest where he had a bunch of guys who look like him with his hair. And then he's the payoff is the chili episode, maybe the most famous episode in the history of the office where he's carrying in the chili with a reasonable facsimile of himself. I thought that that was kind of clever, but there wasn't anything where I went, okay. That's clever. In fact, it was almost to the opposite where I kept going, when are these things gonna get good? Like are they waiting for the fourth quarter before they're gonna bring out the heavy weights? Marvin, best and worst of the weekend. My best of the weekend, my favorite player in the NBA, Stefan Castle, 40 points, 12 rebounds, 12 assists, pretty good, worst of the weekend, my Yukon Huskies. They lost to St. John's over the weekend, no bueno. Still getting further than the Arizona though. You have a pie to the face, bad, don't you? I have an Uncle Phil haircut to the face, to the head rather. Oh, you do? Yeah, so a guy called in. Oh, that's right. That's right, yep. Okay. Don't believe in it. Can you grow hair? Yeah. Like Todd? I don't know what that's supposed to mean, but it sounds like a show. No, no, on the sides. Oh yeah, I can go here on the top too. It's just, I was just doing tricks with the hairline and the corners. Like Paulie? Yeah. It's very much so, yes. Okay. But instead, we're just gonna cut the top so it can look like fritzy. That's a great look as we all know. It'd be awesome if you did that like lined up spray on sort of hair like. Like LeBron. Like some coaches got to. Yeah. That's kind of awesome. Yeah. Put the little guide on your forehead and there you go. There. New year, new me. When does LeBron get that done? Like is it pregame where? Get what done, Dan? His hairline. I mean, look, he had looked like some surgery because if you remember the end of the first Cleveland run, his head, like his headband was at the top of his head. It wasn't weird like the forehead. It was at the top to hide the hairline that was receding at 25. That's called the Lester Holt. The Lester Holt? Yeah, the high forehead. Wow. The Lester Holt. I saw that online. Wow. LeBron had a Lester Holt. A bit of a Lester Holt direction. Like a Peyton Manning? Yes. Peyton. He should have just come on home like me. Yeah, I mean, really? Does it make you younger looking or better looking? No. He's LeBron. Right. I like that somebody posted a video of LeBron that he was running the floor before the game. Nobody else was out there, but he's running and dunking and then running at the other end and dunking. And then somebody said Laker cheerleaders just came out on the floor. He's got his shirt off and he's running up and down the floor dunking. And I went, all right. You know. Paul, he bested worse of the weekend. Worse of the weekend, the interception by Drake May 849, left in the fourth quarter, second and three. They could have made it a game there, and then it went away quickly. Best of the weekend, Cooper Cup reminding everybody nationally that he's still a good player in the league, six important catches. I'm curious, he needs some help for Hall of Fame consideration. He had three really good years and that one monster year. He needed help and last night helped a bit. I think he's got work to do though. He's 32 and he's not the go-to guy anymore. He did not get in the Hall of Fame. No, not getting in the Hall of Fame. I got Super Bowl odds, Super Bowl odds for next year. It's the Rams and Seahawks are tied. Then it's the Bills, Eagles, Patriots, Ravens, same odds, 13 to one, Packers 14 to one along with the Rams, Chiefs and Chargers at 15 to one. And I was kind of surprised with the NFL MVP odds, this according to DraftKings, for next year. Josh Allen, no surprise there, but then it's Lamar Jackson, second on that list with the new head coach. Then you got Mahomes and Herbert, Burrow and Drake May all lumped together there. Some of the other ones down the list. You got Dak Prescott, Matthew Stafford, then Jordan Love, Caleb Williams, Brock Purdy, Jayden Daniels and Trevor Lawrence. Yes, Tom. Any teams from Colorado on that list? That was one win away from going into Super Bowl after all those teams you mentioned. Let me see the Super Bowl odds, Seahawks, Rams, Bills, Eagles, Patriots, Ravens, Packers, Lions, Chargers, Chiefs. Sorry, Todd. Wow. I'm gonna surprise you a little bit. Forget about my fandom. Denver's not any of those like 10, 12 teams you just read and Brock was a know what it'd be like. Who should they be ahead of? Seahawks, Rams? Well, you mentioned Packers and Lions caught my eyes. I think Denver's every better chance is those two teams to get to the Super Bowl. Okay. And your quarterback's not on the list for MVP odds either. Yes, some healing to do. Some healing. Emotional and physical healing, yes, Peter. You have some healing to do as well. Sam and Wyoming, good morning, Sam. What's on your mind today? Hey, gang. Thanks for taking my call. Yeah, I was just wondering following booted's lead, what was more entertaining, the first half of the Super Bowl or the banter about Ross Tucker being in London? Todd. I still think there's a chance he was in London. He was too embarrassed to admit it on the air, but that's fine. I wouldn't want to admit, yeah, they sent me to England to do this in some studio and pretend we were at the game. I understand where he's coming from. Well, you did your research. You did check with him. You thought he might have been in England calling the game. Yes, I asked him off the air. And of course he had a weight to lead with that to make me look like a fool, which he did very successfully. Drake may finish the playoffs. He was sacked 21 times. That's the most by a quarterback in a single post-season in NFL history. Brought to you by Panini America. He also had eight turnovers. Most by players since Carson Palmer had eight during the 2015 playoffs. I mean, the fact that they got to the Super Bowl, given the fact that he was pressured, had turnovers, had fumbles, had interceptions. I mean, it says a lot about the rest of that team and certainly that defense. And, you know, it was there again on Super Bowl Sunday. Turnovers and sacks. Yeah, Paulie. People were in love with Drake May weeks ago. All this season, how much of a cooling effect do you think this game will have or this playoffs will have on his perception in the future? Well, I think it should because, yes, everybody was all in. And I said, you know, you could have given him the MVP. I mean, he finished second by one vote. So a lot of people thought that he could have been MVP. I think he did a lot with a little. And I think that Matthew Stafford did a whole lot with a whole lot. And that's the biggest difference there. But if I'm the Rams, I'm a Rams fan today, I got to go, God, we could have won this. We, if we got there, we would have won this. I don't know what other NFC team that can really say if we had gotten there, we would have won this. And also, are the Vikings going to bring back Kirk Cousins? Because he got released. And all indications are Kirk wants to play. In Minnesota, that may be a return visit. Mac Jones, according to the Niners, they're not trading him. Now that doesn't mean he won't be traded. But Mac Jones and Malik Willis feel like they would be high on the priority list because you really only have one first round quarterback it feels like this year in the draft. All right, we'll take a break. More phone calls coming up. We're back after this. And listen on I Heart Radio stations across America and the free I Heart app. Paulie says there's all ready some issues there in Milan. What's the issue? Yeah, they've started giving out Winter Olympic medals and they're having issues. One of the gold medalists jumped on the podium and the clasp broke and the medal fell to the ground. But then two other athletes, this new medal is like a two piece put together instead of like the one piece that we grew up on with like Carl Lewis and guys like that. And the second piece fell off one of the Olympic medalists and she posted it. So they're trying to recover the medals. Can't blame this on fanatics though. I cannot at this juncture. Yeah, we were looking at those jerseys. Didn't we do that? Was that like NBA jerseys or no baseball jerseys? I'm like, what is this? And they just seem like those knockoff cheap jerseys. And turned out that they were knockoff but not cheap jerseys. And then the Super Bowl ones, I saw the Patriots and I went, that doesn't even, that doesn't feel. The one I had with the Seahawks was better but if I'm paying that kind of money, like I don't want something that's, hey, we're gonna iron on something. Yeah, Seaton. And it isn't even like, yeah, like just like the feel of them was off. Yeah. It was like, well, why are the logos in different places? That is true, the Super Bowl logo, right? There's a Super Bowl logo on this one over here and on that one, it's over there. Like shouldn't they be uniform? It's a uniform. Fritzi had some flight, not issues, but certainly some flight stories coming back from San Francisco. You, of course, never fly direct. So there was a layover in Philadelphia. There was, there was San Francisco, Philly, Philly to Hartford, but there was a couple of months where I thought there was some flirtation going on with a couple of flight attendants. And granted, it doesn't take much for me to start creating scenarios. Someone could say, hi to me in an elevator. And I think, oh my God, I mean, this is gonna be the moment. Anyway, and I'm a happily married man. That being said, I'm getting out of the way of one of the flight attendants who's wheeling the cart and giving out drinks. And I'm actually waiting for the restroom. So I'm getting out of her way. And she kind of comes up next to me and says, some people call this flight dancing, which was just an odd little moment we had there. And I said, which I don't know, is that cheating? So I gotta tell my wife, my line back to her was, that's the thing that happened to me all day. And she smiled and continued wheeling the cart. I don't know if that was appropriate response, but I just got a little flustered that she would say that to me. This is, some people call this flight dancing. But that was the only flirtation. No, that was San Francisco to Philly. And then two things happened from Philly to Hartford. Two things. I'm sitting in coach like row 14B, the curtain starts at row eight. So I'm about six rows behind first class. And I'm eating my little smash burger, whatever I'm eating. And she comes over to me and one of the flight to ask me if I would like a drink. So I said, sure, I thought she was gonna then proceed to bring out a car to something and get, cause they were de-icing the plane to make everybody happy when they give you our little snacks and drinks. So people don't get all pissed off that the flight's delayed. And she didn't ask anyone else for a drink, just me. I don't know if it's cause I was eating a hamburger and I had ketchup running down my face. Whatever was going on, she only offered me a drink. Then there was a blonde flight. And on that same flight with little braided hair, she comes over to me and says, save me a bite of like the hamburger that I was like, what is that about? And then when I got off the plane, she's like, you never saved me a piece of your hamburger. I'm like, what? Is that not a little bit of flirting? I don't know, help me out. I would say, yeah. Like, you know, you might, knowing you, how you like to read into things. Yeah, I could see where you're thinking that. That's so much to drink, whatever. I could wink at that. She saw that I didn't have any drink with me and I was eating. But the other two things about, you know, were flight dancing or how to save me a bite and you didn't save me a bite. She remembered that for the hour and a half flight from Philly to Hoffman. And I was like, wow, I got all excited. I was like, no, maybe there is a little, I am a little attractive still in my old age with my belly and something looking like that. That's the heavy set guy that works out once a week and does bicep curls for three minutes. Yeah, Paul. You know, my first thought before the stories commenced was that flight attendants are paid to be nice for customer satisfaction. When I hear those, that seems like some light midair flirting a little bit. Yeah. Yeah. I would say that's above and beyond the call of duty. I certainly wasn't going to report her to like an airline or go to the pilot. You got a flight attendant here saying that we're flight dancing and she wants a bite of my hamburger. I was very, you know, flustered and excited about that. If you did that to her, it would probably kick me off the plane. Some marshal would probably put handcuffs on me. They'd be waiting for you in Hartford. I'd be in some room being interrogated. I may never get home from Philadelphia. Yes, see. The best thing that happened to you all day was the woman saying some people call this flight dancing. That's the first thing that came to my mind because she had to smile and she made this kind of. The best thing that happened to you all day long was that. I think it was. I know we had a really good show that day and everything with all kinds of guests. But, you know, we're accustomed to, you know, doing big things with the show in Super Bowl week. But, you know, she goes out of her way with the cart and kind of leans on top of, or not on top of next to me and said, I don't want to make this more than it was. But she kind of, she could have just gone right past me. She sat in my lap at that point. Then she was sitting in my lap and I was like, whoa, this feels poor. Some people call this flight dancing. And I'm like, that's the best thing that happened to me all day. Then she smiled and, you know, now I feel like I got to like report this to the wife that I said that because. Did you? I did not. I'm sure she'll hear about this and it'll be on social media. Okay, but I can't give an opinion on this other than maybe a flight attendant could, you know, tell us if that's above and beyond the call to do. I want to know, my questions are, A, is that considered flirtation? Am I just reading into it? And B, was my response trying to be friendly? Was my response inappropriate as a married man, just to say best thing that happened to me all day? I didn't give her my number. I didn't say, you know, I'll talk to you later. Oh, you know, when's your next flight out? Maybe, you know, we can hang out. It was just like best thing that happened to me all day. And that's what came out of my mouth. And after I said that, I went back to my seat and felt guilty for like the rest of the flight that I said that. Okay. If you were single, would you have asked her out? I felt like there was something to her saying like this, you know, there's some people would call this flight dancing. What do you, that's something you normally, a flight attendant would be trained to say, while someone's waiting to use the bathroom and they're getting out of your way while they're giving out drinks with the cart. Yeah. So she was definitely pretty. I think the one saying, hey, save me a bite. That was. She was really cute. That's cutesy. That's playful. And then she doubled down when I got off the plane when I disembarked her. Oh, you disembark on a plane. I de-played whatever it was. And then she remembered that she said that to me. It said, you never saved me a bite. And I'm like, oh my God, what's going on here? You okay? I was blushing a little bit. And then I said, I'll get you next time, I promise. I don't know what happens. Wow. I would be a next time. What if she said, hey, I got a layover in Hartford? I would say I'm at Brooklyn Fritzy. I don't have time to write down any numbers right now, but you could find me now. It was very flattering. And I wanted to share that with you guys, not as a brag or anything, just like, what do you make of that? There's basically why she- I would say there's some flirting going on there. Yeah, I would. I felt like a new man. I had this rebirth of like, I'm not just the, you know, the chubby guy that works out once in a while. That's got two kids in their 20s, married 26 years. Like, you know, I was noticed by this flight attendant, which goes beyond what they're trained to do, besides giving your pretzels and peanuts and a can of ginger ale. I had a woman who fell asleep on me on the way home. And I, and then she woke up and then she was, she felt bad and I said, it's okay. She goes, and then she looked at my left hand. She goes, you're married. And I said, yes. Like, I didn't cause this. You fell asleep. And I said, it's okay. She goes, oh, I'm so embarrassed. I said, don't be, it's okay. And then she said, hey, you want to buy to my hamburger? And then she said, Oh, see that? Now it's going to the next level. Now it's awkward. Save me a bite. Yes, Paulie. I flew quietly and spoke to nobody. So, definitely nobody. Yeah. And that was the best part of your day. The best part of your day. Let me see. Lillian in San Jose. Yes, can you hear me? Yes. Yes. You know, the Super Bowl was held in Santa Clara, but most of the events were in San Jose. And so the best part of the Super Bowl was when I was watching it and then you could hear the flyover of the jets. And I think the people in San Jose, they were just excited just to have the Super Bowl there. I mean, you could go by the Levi Stadium and see all the, you know, the logos and everything. But I do want to make a comment on Lindsay. What's the name of the skier? Lindsay Vaughn. I do believe that after that incident, and you have an older veteran skier that has had issues in the past, I think we should reevaluate how we allow Olympians to get into the Olympics that have had previous injuries and have wiped out before. And, you know, we do drug testing. I mean, Lindsay has had so many injuries and she's had probably titanium in her body and all my injuries. Yeah, but she's still qualified, Lily. And I have to wipe away what you did in previous Olympics. She qualified. And because of that, she deserved to be able to try to compete. I was just surprised that maybe there wasn't somebody who could take her place after the ACL injury. And we even talked about it. You run the risk of more damage there. But thank you for the phone call. Justin in Florida, good morning, Justin. What's on your mind? Hey, Dan, good morning. You have always been a against individual player betting. Chris Goderub was plus 5,000 in the midday. And then Hideki got haunted twice. I was just wondering if you think that had anything to do with the fact that Chris Goderub had such crazy odds midday. And, you know, individual gambling and sports is just, we're continuing to see more and more issues. Well, wait a minute. What did Goderub's odds have to do with Hideki? Because he was playing Hideki. You know, it was the playoff. So he got, it was anything to throw off Hideki would then put money in anyone that had Goderub to win. Oh, you mean the crowd going against him? Yes. The crowd. Well, OK. But Hideki could have won this in regulation. He screwed up the last couple of holes. As far as when you get, you know, to a playoff, you know, all, I would say all bets are off, but maybe they're on. But thank you for the phone call, Justin. I don't like the individual, but that's golf. I mean, you got to, if you're allowing betting, it is individual. But yes, can a crowd yell out things? Can they disrupt? Yeah, they can. Look, this is just one big black hole when it comes to gambling. It's just a question of when these things are going to surface and how serious they are when they do. Angelo in Huntington Beach. Hi, Angelo. Hey, Dan, how you doing today? Good. So I was calling because, I mean, I'm seeing it all over the internet, and then I'm also talking to my co-workers about it, you know, and I'm hearing a lot of talk about how the Patriots had a super easy schedule to get into the Super Bowl and whatnot. You know, seven of their wins were by single position or single possession games, and I'm just curious what your take is on it. Yeah, we've talked about their schedule. Their strength of schedule was one of the lowest in the NFL, if not the lowest. They didn't pick it. You can only play what's in front of you. I mean, it's not like a draw NCAA basketball where they go, we're going to make that team a two-seat instead of a three-seat or a one-seat. Now you're picking what their path is going to be. The Patriots didn't pick this. They took advantage of this. Adam in New York, hi, Adam. Hey, good morning, Ken. How are you? Good. I can't hear you. Can you hear me now? I got you, Adam. Okay, yeah, I just wanted to comment last night on the commercials. I believe we were talking about it earlier. It used to be about 10 years ago, five years ago. It was something that we all look forward to and discuss the next day at the water cooler or whatnot. But last night, the commercials, it was like two different kinds of commercials. Either number one, they were showing some child in nostalgia, like the Lays commercial and tugging at the hard strings. And the other kind were the commercials that these people just, these companies just trying way too hard to be funny. And I just think the commercials were just, they just were horrible last night. Just wanted to get your thoughts on it. Yeah, I just, I wasn't entertained by them. There wasn't, you know, ones where you start, you're talking about them after, you know, when they, when they come back to the football game, you're still talking about it or laughing about it or thinking about it. I just didn't, but I'm not the biggest guy when it comes to, hey, the halftime show and those commercials, I got a job to do, you know, and it's really concentrating on watching the game. The other stuff is on the periphery. Yes, Eden. It did, it felt like normal everyday football commercials. There really wasn't anything special at all about any of them. That's fair. Yep. Andres in Seattle. How you doing, Dan? Good. First time long time, five, six and a slim 202. I just wanted to comment on congratulating the Marcus Lawrence on leaving the trash can of the cowboy through the Super Bowl with Seattle. And also if Micah Parsons regrets calling him a clown. If Micah Parsons, what? If Micah Parsons regrets calling him a clown. Oh, he's a Super Bowl clown, Super Bowl winning clown. Yet, you don't real, I mean, it's the power of the Cowboys. When Marcus Lawrence is on the Cowboys, you knew to Marcus Lawrence was on the Cowboys. It's one of those when you're watching the game, and you're like, oh, that's right, Marcus Lawrence. I get this kind of like George Pickens. He has that now. If he leaves the Cowboys, then all of a sudden it's, now they're talking about maybe franchising him and then trading him. That's the latest with the Cowboys. Yes, yes, Marvin. That beef between Micah and Marcus Lawrence stemmed from the Marcus Lawrence doing a press conference as soon as he got to the Seattle Seahawks and said, I love being a cowboy, but I'm never gonna win the Super Bowl here. And so Micah Parsons responded by calling him a clown. So that's where that stems from. All right. And he was right. He was telling the truth. Yeah. Yeah, Marvin. I just felt, I was like, to Marcus Lawrence is on the Seahawks? I know. It was just weird. Right. But that's what the Cowboys do to you. They go seven and nine, and I'm like, to Marcus Lawrence is everywhere. Yeah. When a Super Bowl, I know he was on the team. Cowboys, it's kind of like ESPN. When you're at ESPN, it makes you really more powerful than you really are. As I found out when I left ESPN, but when you're there, it's like, yeah, you work at the mothership, you get seen by all these people, and then all of a sudden you leave, you don't have those four letters there behind you. Those powerful letters. All right. We'll take a break. Last call for phone calls. What we learn once in store tomorrow, right after this. Watch live on Fox, Thursday, March 26th, I hope more quarterbacks and agents follow suit of what we saw with Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield that there has to be a sweet spot where maybe it's around $35 million. Still, pretty good living. Not everybody's $50 million that you go from being a rookie and then you put in your three or four years, then you get extended. But don't be afraid to hold on to the spot with your team so you don't price yourself out of there. And Sam Darnold came in at a really good price for Seattle. Baker Mayfield a really good price for Tampa Bay. And they were able to play with a good team. Baker Mayfield with the playoff team. Sam wins the Super Bowl. Daniel Jones, it's going to be interesting to see what kind of money he wants because he might be pricing himself out of a situation. And maybe he wants to stay with the Colts. What's going on with the Vikings? They don't have a quarterback right now. Maybe they bring in Kurt Cousins. Well, what's he going to come in at? Is it going to be a $35 million deal? I think it's really important to find there's three different tiers of quarterbacks. Rookies, that guy who might be on his third team and then there's going to be the guy who's making $50 or $60 million. And you've got to have somebody who's going to be honest with you. And you've got to be honest as well and say, this is where I want to be. Need to be. And Sam Darnold won a Super Bowl because of that. Mike Golic senior on the program tomorrow. Reggie Miller will stop by. By the way, Sam Darnold ran the table with all of his incentives. He made an extra $4 million during the postseason. Mike in Oregon. Hey Mike, what's on your mind? Hey Dan, I just wanted to say we're here in the heart of Seahawk Country. And what a weekend, man. But I have to say, offense, defense, special teams, now, isn't it? It was Josh McDaniel. And man, this came out of nowhere, Dan. Being a Seahawk fan since the beginning, we've been through everything. But this was a rebuild here. We were recovering from Geno and he was great, but he wasn't working. And suddenly we got this guy, Sam Darnold from Minnesota. We're not paying attention to Sam Darnold. We're in NFC West. We're paying attention to that. So suddenly we got this 14-1 quarterback. Why? And we go into it the same as everybody. Here he goes, four games. He wins. Eight games. He wins. Yeah, come on. It went up exponentially. And this ride, Dan, is amazing. And it's Josh McDaniel's core there. And I'm so happy. I can't explain. That's the best. All right. Well, congratulations, Mike. I would like to remind you the local reaction to when you brought in Sam Darnold, not exactly throwing a victory parade there in Seattle. But it worked out. Yes, Heaton. Maybe people don't want me to say this. But Sam Darnold didn't win the game. He just didn't lose it. He got him to the game. I think you could say that. Sure. Yeah, absolutely. But it's not like he went out there and won the game for them. He was asked to manage the game, don't throw any interceptions, and give the ball to Kenneth Walker. And he did that very well. Rob and San Diego. Hi, Rob. What's on your mind? Hey, Dan. How you doing? Good. Hey, I need your help settling a debate that my neighbor and I are having to pretty heated the debate at this point. Yeah, this is going to go for years on here, depending on your answer here. But who had a worse QB performance? Was it Drake May from last night or Patrick Mahomes from last year? And I'm hoping Regency Bias doesn't sway at one way or the other. But I would appreciate you guys weighing in. Thank you. Well, why don't I just look at the numbers? Paulie, can we look at the QBR rating for Drake May last night and Patrick Mahomes? Sure. Should be able to settle it simply. You know, I was thinking about the commercials last night. There was a lot of AI and there was crypto. And then there was like a Lays potato chip that was really a sentimental commercial. And then there was the Goodwill Duncan, Ben Affleck, and Jennifer Heston, and Tom Brady. Yeah, Paulie. So Drake May last night, 27 to 43. I got him at 295, two touchdowns, two picks, quarterback rating of 79.1. Last year in the Super Bowl, Eagles won 40 to 22. Mahomes was 21 to 32, 257, three touchdowns, two picks, QB quarterback rating of 95.4. Okay. A little better. Yeah. So he had a better game than Drake May. That was easy to settle. Yeah, I mean, I would think that the guaranteed surefire first ball at Hall of Famer in his fifth Super Bowl would perform better than the year two quarterback going against the best defense. Thomas Indy Troy. I don't know. Thomas Indy Troy. Hi, Thomas. What's on your mind? Hey, DPD. 6-3, Firm 180, and a member of the DDC. I just wanted to chime in on the Winfee Von situation that when she crashed, she hooked her arm on the gate, which is going to happen in downhill. And she had a competitive training run time behind Breeze Johnson. And you'd be hard pressed to find a downhill skier who hasn't been injured at some point. So can't really disqualify them for that. She earned the right to be there. Breezey ended up winning the gold. But I think that Lindsay was out there at age 41 in that sport. That was very impressive. I just didn't know if the Achilles would have an impact on her in the way she skied. I mean, you've got to be aggressive. You can't kind of half-ass it. It's got to be all out. And I just wonder if mentally, if that affects you or you're thinking it. Yeah, Paulie. Great name. Breezey Johnson for a skier. I always liked Peek-A-Boo Street. Oh, great. You know, she was teaching Snoop Dogg how to ski. Snoop's all over the place, though. Snoop, there it is. This day in sports history, Paulie. He said down hisle yesterday, which is bread on cue for him. 1895 in Massachusetts, volleyball was invented. How about that? Okay. A hotbed of volleyball. All right. And here's one, a player we love. 89 Kevin Johnson of the Suns hit a free throw in 57 straight games. Hmm. Randall, I know you like Kevin Johnson. Yeah. Yeah. Um, Rick Berry made eight three pointers in 1980. Guys were taken eight three pointers. This is when he played with the Rockets. Rick Berry underrated player led Golden State, not single-handedly, but he was the only real star on that team. Yes, Todd. And he was shooting those threes underhand, which looked ridiculous. No, no, he was not. Three one over the back. He was not. He was not. Uh, Greg Popovich, one is 1000th career game. And uh, that was 2015. Let's go around the room, see if we learned anything today. We didn't really get to this. Is there a memorable play from Sunday? Maybe we'll, we'll do that tomorrow. Todd, what'd you learn today? Bill Cower impressed with how Sam Darnham negated sacks by being elusive in the pocket. What'd you learn? Based on our poll results, the Seattle pass rush getting all the credit for last night's game. Marvin, you think jugglers are hot? Oh, Ross Tucker was not in London yesterday. He was not. Todd, Marvin wants to know as we all do, why North Carolina fans in Chapel Hill felt they need to storm the court after beating Duke of the buzzer and punching coaches in the face. Great to be back home. Thanks for joining us. Have a great day. We'll talk to you tomorrow. Let's go. Our I heard radio music awards are coming back Thursday, March 26th live on Fox.
