. welcome back to another episode of trading secrets this one this one this one is a special one it is with this might be the first time i feel like i've said it publicly my fiancee Katherine Hurley. Let's go from Plymouth, Michigan, founder of WAGS and Wox Nashville. Unbelievable rescue here in town, which is how I met you. And we got a lot to unpack today. We got to go over the Europe trip, a little Euro recap. I think we should talk about the day of, day of the craziness of the day of the ring of course your perspective my perspective the storytelling and just what life has looked like in the last month and what it will look like in the next i don't call it 12 to 18 months okay there's a lot to unpack this is an episode like no other on trading secrets katherine fiance how you feeling baby so happy to be here it is so good to be here. We, by the way, we just finished work. Yeah. I mean, your adoption center is right over here, right across the street. A couple miles down the road. A couple miles down the road. It's been a, we went on Sunday, we went to go see my parents and the Morts. We celebrated at their lake house, had some champagne. Then last night we put it out there. We posted it. Catherine woke up this morning. Like you were so funny. You're like, this is a lot. Like this is a lot. And of of course, just the energy of the kindness is unbelievable, but it's also whoa. You know, you woke up this morning, your face is on TMZ. And then we went to dinner last night. We, of course, got to celebrate during our engagement. We also did, when we came back home, we, of course, did an engagement shoot with the boys. I mean, the boys are part of our story, so they had to be part of the shoot. So we were joking last night at dinner. We're like, we've had literally like six engagements. And by the way, it's the best. It's the best. I would highly recommend it before we dig into all those details take a good sip by the way we're roughing it we had some wine last night guys we're celebrating we're like on a little celebration bender so last night we were coming to this podcast I'm like why don't I just grab us a couple of drinks you're like let's do it what do you want and I was like gas station's over here you want wine she'll go liquor store you're like no get a spritz and let's rough it up so we got some styrofoam cups from the gas station a little different than our cocktails last night but hey, that's life. That's us. Cheers. Cheers to us and the rest of life. The rest of our life. The rest of life. Oh my God. By the way, I'm going first. Okay. So. You're up. Batter up. No, no, no. I mean, I'm going first. Like I'm. Oh, oh my gosh. I hate when you talk about this. But I am. It's already like set in stone. I'm going first. I thought you just meant you were going to talk first. These are the things that I think about now. I'm like, no. Like I'm going first. No. these are the things that keep me up at night and give me anxiety thinking about that that's morbid let's go to the good okay how are you feeling I feel good even like this right here though I think for context it's really good this is still new to you like sitting at a mic with cameras talking about our engagement that's still new to you how are you feeling with that yeah like I said it's not when this morning when I said it's it's not like a bad a lot it's just it would be a lie if you didn't acknowledge that even people who get on Instagram and get a following, unless you go on a reality show, you don't really have this being thrown into it as much as I feel like I kind of just got plopped in once we posted that we were public, which we talked about obviously for a long time because that was a little bit scary. So none of it is scary anymore. And WAGs is adjacent enough to these types of things where I've done interviews, I've done some public speaking, so I'm comfortable. but yeah it's when you have I don't know quarter of a million people liking the Instagram post and again everyone's being so nice I just for 34 33 years was in my own little world in my own little bubble and now I'm not but I think that also comes with a lot of great things that we've talked about with talking about dog rescue and education and awareness and so yeah just baby steps and navigating that as it comes. I love it. You're killing it. You're a queen. All right. Let's go to Europe. Okay. Let's go before Europe. Okay. So I want everyone to know this is a little bit of part of the plan. Once you and I started dating, it's a hundred percent you. The second we started, it was a hundred percent. And I think when we sat down, I was like, we were sitting at a wine bar and having pizza. We were sitting at a pizza joint in Brooklyn and we had some pizza and some wine and you were just kind of like, so what are you thinking? What are we doing? What's going on here? And I just said, I was like, I looked the left, I looked right. I was like, now that I've had you come into my life like so frequently and you've been here so often and I'm just loving every little second of it. And I kind of looked up. I was like, I just can't imagine you not being in my life. and I never want to imagine that. And I was like, so that's what we're doing here. And you're like, all right, let's do it. I think that was the trip that I extended like seven different times. I was only supposed to be in New York for like three days. And then it was like, well, do you want to stay another day? Do you want to stay another day? Do you want to stay another day? And I think I was there for like nine days. I think that's a good gut check in life when you just keep extending. Like we extend in Lake Como. You know what I mean? When you keep extending, it's like your gut being like, I need to stay longer. Yeah, we were in very small spaces, and we hadn't traveled together that much. Yeah. But I didn't want to leave. You didn't want me to leave, so we were kind of like bouncing around, and Grimaldi's was, I think, the second to last night before I left. Yeah. And, yeah, I mean, you were a little bit more guarded than I was, but I feel like that's when that conversation— Rightfully so. I mean— Well, I mean, life. Yeah. Everyone should be, but— Everyone at this age has been burned in some way, shape, or form. got burned and dragged yeah so yeah i mean yeah but you locked in after that and like no but like that was i mean i feel like there's you can go through a relationship and be like when do you did you know but at that point i was like oh like this there's no they're 100 percent i am marrying this person this will be my fault i asked you remember wait what did you say I said, I feel like you're trying to figure out if we're going to get married before we like exclusively date. And you were like, um, yeah, actually that is what I'm doing. Yeah. You weren't wrong. I wasn't wrong one and rightfully so. And, uh, I think that, I mean, from that point on, it wasn't even, it was just a like, how are we going to dance to be on the same page because you got it in life you dance right you move in together you learn each other's quirks you learn what annoys one another what the good things the bad things what makes someone sensitive like you just it's that point it's dancing at that point I'm like I will it doesn't matter what dance floor I gotta go on I'm dancing with you the rest of my life it's actually funny that you just talked about how like you kind of stumbled into the thought of that conversation at Grimaldi's it just like happened and you were like your little light bulbs are going off but that was the same thing with moving it together oh my god that is the same you were like oh well just like we're at the airport yeah and you were like i got that you were like i got the uber and i was like i i also have to get an uber because we're not going to the same so we landed right we landed and we're walking i'll never forget that we're walking out in nashville and we're going down the escalator and as we go the escalator um you're doing something i'm doing something we're always it's always like we're tag teaming it right like you're doing this I'm doing that. And I was just like, Hey, I got the Uber. We're good to go. And we'll go down. And you're like, well, I got my Uber. And I was like, and you're like, you know, we don't live together. Right. I'm like, wait, you're, you're going, Oh, I hate that. I don't like that. Yeah. And that's when we moved in. It was like two weeks later. Cause then we like didn't officially do something, but then I didn't want to leave and feeling a little bit bouncing in between. and then it was like a typical guy in like a cute way. You were like, oh, well, just go get your stuff. I'm like, well, we didn't formalize that conversation, but it just like the little thought popped into your head and you were like, yeah, just go take your car and pack your thing. It's like, let's go. Let's do it. Go pack your thing. What do we got to do? How do we got to do this? We got to move a couple, whatever we got to do, let's do it. So that leads up to with our Europe trip, which had been planned for a while, right? because one of your very good friends got married in Santorini. Miss Mel. Miss Mel. And about a week and a half later, Blake and G are getting married. And so we had this planned for a little bit. And then it was about a month or so ago. And as you know, I'm not the best planner. When it comes to planning, my schedule is just, it's crazy. And I plan a week ahead, maybe a day ahead, maybe an hour ahead. we extended the time here because we're behind depends on on the situation yes so it was about like i knew like i thought this summer fall we would get engaged like going go if you like coming into winter of this year i was like oh we'll be engaged summer fall we were at jta afterwards and we were having a conversation with david and ashley and they did that little game where they made us cover our eyes which we filmed this in what february i don't remember yeah probably yeah But you said September and I said August. And so that's why that just, because I knew we were going to get married, same thing. I wasn't like pressed about it. Yeah. And so it just poofed out of my mind to even consider that we would be getting engaged before then. I think my, yeah, it was probably, so we filmed this in February. So I'm thinking maybe more like fall-ish. Yeah. But once I started thinking about our trip, I'm thinking about Europe and I'm starting to like, I'm starting to research, right? Like I always plan out like a week ahead. So now I'm in the weeds. Yeah. Month away. And I'm like, how do you not? Like this is perfect. This is absolutely perfect. So that was, I mean, it was like probably, I don't know. It was probably like a month before that I decided I'm doing this. Like this is the time. This is a once in a lifetime trip. I know for sure I'm getting engaged to her. I know for sure I'm going to marry her. I know for sure I'm going to die next to you. It's a no brain. Like I know that. It's just when at this point, it's just when. So I'm like, all right, let's go. So then it was like full wheels in motion. So the hardest thing though is Catherine and I, like you see on our social media, right? We post a lot together. We post a lot. We're always with each other. Yeah. Like we really are with each other. We're hanging out. We're with each other. Like I think there are couples that are like we're best friends. and then there's like best friends. Like we're best friends. Like we hang out all the time. I leave tomorrow. I'm on the ESPYs for 24 hours. I'm like, get me on the next flight. I can get back Thursday morning. It's just what we do. It's like what we do. So planning something this big and your instincts are so tight. By the way, on her instincts, she is like a kind, like little OCD, baby. I'm particular. Particular, okay. Organized, very unlike me. and so in the house everything's organized everything's put away boom boom boom boom boom and it's the classic I don't know where anything is Catherine where is it so I have to plan this of course in a way that's like very meticulous because you're gonna see you're gonna go through the drawer you're gonna go through the bag to fix it and clean it and you're gonna see something so I had to have reasons I was in New York which worked out because I had reasons I was in New York right for work stuff or something but then you'd be like you're gonna go to New York just for that that and that I was like I well yeah I'd have to like think about reasons why I was going but one trip didn't make a lot of sense there's one trip you're because especially because I'm telling you about how you're tired trying to be I'm tired I spent yeah I'm tired like I want to be smart with my time and you're like so you're going up there for this daytime show or something it was the news I'm like you can go on the news anytime take a beat and you were like no like I'll take the opportunity and I didn't push you on it, but I was like, that man is going to pass away. Yeah. So that's when I went shopping for the ring. Went to a bunch of places in New York, ended up getting your ring at Quiat. It's a family owned jeweler, very well known in New York in the diamond industry globally and met with one of the owners. They've been around since 1907. They have an unbelievable reputation in the diamond space. Listen, if Margot Robbie has a ring from them. I love Margot Robbie. And I was like, listen, let me paint the picture for you. Classy, timeless, pristine. That's it. That's what I need. And I was like, this is what I'm looking for. It was inspired by Taylor Swift. Shocker. Elongated cushion cut, also known as an old mine cut, antique cut, all the above. and it's so you though like especially now at this time by the way we've lived together since november right around november and we have moved into a new home together since april so i'm seeing all your style how you're picking things i'm like this is a hundred percent it so i went to a bunch of jewelers i was like this is the kind of diamond i'm looking for show me your best look and like quiat was by far a long shot and all respect to the other diamond jewelers if you're listening because they did a great job. But Kwiat, it was just the best. They cut it in-house in New York City. It's the biggest, the best. I mean, go chat GPT. It's ahead of Tiffany's. It's unbelievable. And the confidence, but the humbleness of this guy is like, I know you want, I got it. And so we picked out the diamond. Beautiful diamond. It's great. It's a very, very, very, very beautiful diamond. And we're talking about the setting. Yeah. In the setting, I was like, just keep it everything I just told you. That's why I imagine like gold, but not like overbearing gold, like not too much, but just like enough to just let it, just keep it classy, timeless. And so that's where I got the ring. Crazy thing about the ring is it's FedExed here, right? So I get it FedExed to our house. CMA weekend. CMA weekend. or it's a whole like, you know, you got to sign it, you're tracking all that stuff. And I think I had just left when they came. You had just left, which is again, rare. And I don't, my schedule isn't super predictable. So that just happened to be, which probably bought you. Cause I also am the one that opens, I open the packages. I break down the cardboard. I want it into the garage and the recycling. Like I don't let stuff sit around. So if I saw something come in, that would have been so weird to me. if you like rush to grab it. Yeah. Because you never would do that. Never. So then the other thing too is I don't know. You've never told me your ring size. I didn't even know it. I don't know your ring size. I guessed it. And I am going to, I'm literally, here's what I did for her ring size. I had someone who was an agent at our agency, Megan, shout out. Shout out, Megan. Sent Catherine, like, you know, Catherine's following, okay, companies want to work with you, whatever. Just fill out this form. It's a form of everything. It's got your shoe size, your sock size, your everything. I mean, like everything we get to know. And one of it is ring size. I had her do that like a month before. But I didn't even know my ring size. You didn't know your ring size. I said to chat GPT, I'm 5'8". This is how much I weigh. And I have like long, creepy little fingers. But. What do you think my ring size is? And that's what I just guessed. That's what I put into Megan. That's the first time you told me that. Yeah, I thought I told you that in Europe. But yeah, I didn't know. Because she put in five. Yeah. So I'm like, if you put in five, it's got to be five. So this guy's making this unreal dime. It's over five carats. I mean, it's like everything is perfect. Everything. And he goes, what's the ring size? I said, five, like very confidently. Okay, so this is New York. It gets delivered. I didn't have the opportunity to go back to Plymouth because we in a tight timeframe with our Europe travels and life And so I FaceTimed your dad talked to your dad He was so adorable He in Dairy King He talking to me He giving me the like I mean we just we're going back and forth on all things life. And you know what was really cool about when I talked to him is the stories. He would tell a lot of stories about you and like, yeah, but like he was a kid and this and that, and it was amazing. And so now I got to bring this freaking ring to Europe and not let you know and make sure that this ring is hidden with someone who's very like OCD about particular organization. I can't let you see it. I'm freaking out. So I am on full guard. I'm pretty much, I was sleeping with the ring next to my bed. I was putting it next to me. I was sleeping. I was literally sleeping. Anywhere that ring went, I went with that ring. Now, here's the funny part. CMA Fest is the night before and we're going to CMA Fest. We're going with Wrangler. And then we go to Spotify house. And Catherine's like, we're going to Europe tomorrow for three weeks. But I was like, we, let's, I was trying. First of all, I wanted to go. Let's be real. I wanted to be out and stuff. But I was also trying to like create an illusion. Like there's no way that I was proposing because you kept saying to me up until Europe, you kept saying, everyone thinks we're getting engaged. Everyone thinks we're getting engaged. People are asking me and I'm like, I'm trying to dump them. No, it's going to be fall. The only thing I'll add to that is I was saying that as a joke. Oh, you were. I did not think we were going to get engaged. Remember I literally said the day before we got engaged, should you post on Instagram that you're not proposing? Because I felt bad for you that you were getting obliterated in your comments. Propose, propose. Marry her. And I was like, wow, like everything we post this whole trip, you're going to be like guilt tripped because it was just the farthest thing from my mind. Because I had girlfriends ask me that. And I was like, no, this man is like so haphazardly. Even like you literally did not pack for Europe until 2 in the morning. And our flight was at like 8 a.m. Yeah. So I was like, no, I know him well enough at this point to know that he has not had six minutes to think about proposing to me. So there's just, if there was $10 million on the table and they said, you just have to go 51-49, yes or no, I'd have been like hard no. Hard no, right? After you purchase, they'll ask where you heard about them please support our show and tell them we sent you and now i am putting the ring by the way in a very special place in my weekender bag which i organize for you which you organize all the time because there's always like broken electrolytes and stuff stuff it was just stuff and like you helped me out with that and so i got a little pocket a little side pocket like that's where it is but i'm a weekend i'm sleeping next to it i'm i mean i am on full guard then we go to Europe and obviously we're in our, in the plane and the, Oh, remember the other thing too, is I ordered the thing on my neck. You know, like, you know, there's a lot of pickpocketers in Europe. So there's like neck wallet and you're like, okay, dad, like you're tripping me. I'm like trying to think about how do I keep this ring in a place that you can't see it anyway. So we're flying at all times. I'm parent first, like five days. I'm literally losing my mind. Just where's this ring? Where's this ring? All time. Like waking up for you. Is the ring still there? Is it still there? Well then Greece, remember the check-in? Oh my gosh. the fucking chicken. Okay. So then we get to Greece and we're checking into a place. It's like 3 p.m. We had a red eye, didn't sleep much the night and we leave our bags there. And it's like a mom. Well, we had to go to Mel's. Boat party. The boat party. And so the room was not going to be ready for like an hour and a half, but the shuttle was waiting for us. So it was those little boutique hotels where there's 12 hotel rooms and there's no lobby. Like it's just an office and it was all outside and you were tweaking out. You were like texting the front desk and even, I meant to ask you, how did you even get their phone number? And you're like, they haven't texted me back. I'm like, there's like 17 people in that building. I'm pretty sure our stuff is okay. But to your credit, that ring was just chilling. It was chilling at a random Greece Santorini hotel and you and I are in bathing suits. Clearly I can't bring it. I almost brought it. I almost brought it on the boat because I was so paranoid about it. But then I brought it. You wouldn't have been able to get away with that. They don't even tip in Europe. And I like brought the lady who was cleaning her room. I said, let's just take care of those bags, okay? And I gave her like 40 bucks or something. Did you tell them that the ring was in there? No. No. I would have. My Midwest self would have been like, I got a ring in there. Oh my God. He safeguarded for me. So the whole time we're on the boat, I'm sweating bullets. Like we get back to the room, I'm tearing it up. Okay, it's here. It's here. It's here. So that was Santorini, which by the way, quick recap, like Santorini. Well, our favorite thing ever was that little restaurant with that little sweet woman who, my favorite story from there is we thought we were ordering, I think a pint of wine, which is between a glass and a bottle because it was really late. We were just still a little bit hungry after the boat and wanted a late night bite. And we ordered a liter and we can drink wine, you know, but we can't drink a liter of wine in an hour and a half. And so they were emptying out water bottles and just pouring this wine into the water bottles because they wanted us to not waste it. And the food was amazing. The wedding was incredible. They did such a good job just taking care of the guests and making it really special for them and loved Santorini. Santorini is beautiful. Yeah. Amazing. So then we go to Lake Como and then we're at this Airbnb. be. And by the way, Lake Como was just the most spec'd. How would you define Lake Como? It was the perfect blend. You know, when you think of the tropics, it's like you've got the beach and you've got palm trees and you've got the sun, but you don't have that rustic feel that you get sometimes with the mountains and just more deep forest and a lake, you know, being from Michigan, it was like all that squished into one. So you had the nice place to grab a drink the nice dinner, but it just felt more earthly. And I think it just was so much more overwhelming in a good way. I remember just like my eyes were like always like crying a little bit because it was just so spectacularly beautiful and it showed just the history. And you know me, I like my old little antiques and just little tiny things. And I felt like that was like Como. You were like at this beautiful beach club, but then looking at a forest and a lake and then this, you know, trillion year old building. And that to me, it just checked every box. There wasn't a moment I was outside in Lancomo, like literally not one moment that I'm just like, oh my God. Oh my God. We said, oh my God, so many times. It was, it was like, we sound like a broken record. Yeah. When we were driving from Milan in the car, remember we hit that curb, well, not literally the curb but we like turned a corner and we both went like holy shit it was just over like yeah what the hell this is home for the next few days and we extend it so anything you want to get into before we get into day of proposal no i don't think so other than like i wouldn't have ever thought about airbnbs in yeah i don't know italy lake como in general and that little house was so cute. I just loved it. So a travel tip. Look to Airbnb. It was beautiful. It was amazing. And then just the food. The food is just, it's, there's just not, it's so good. You don't feel like, I don't know how to expect, you don't feel bloated. You don't feel like you're eating. No, I like felt like I had a six pack and I was like, I just like cooked down. I was like, how do you have a six pack? It was like, all we're doing is eating pizza and pasta. I don't know if it's gotta be the ingredients, how organic it is, all of it. But also stress though. Remember we We were looking at us. That's true. They were saying for like women in particular, like your cortisol levels, like, cause I'm always complaining about being bloated and I felt great there, but I was also chilling. A little chilling. Chilling. So we had a couple of rainy days and then we had a couple of chill days where we did our own thing. And then my business partner, Evan was like, let's come up with a plan where I'm planning some stuff, which is typical of Evan. Like you never know where you're going to be. And like, he might throw something at you. Like, oh, you guys are going, hey, that, that, that, that, that, that, that. He's a classic New York bop, bop, bop guy. So I said, Evan, just call me today. Set all this up. We're going to, you know, we're on here. We're doing the boat. And like, remember that time we saw the boat and we saw the photographer where he's going to grab a photographer because there might be, you know, I'm just trying to, I'm trying to come up with anything that would justify this. Well, I remember also thinking that we don't have any photos in the house. I think you said that. I said that. And I was like, oh, that would be really cool because we don't have any professional photos taken of us other than like Tommy John. which by the way, this goes back to Santorini. Okay. When we were at the wedding and this wedding is in Santorini, Greece overlooking it. It's over a cliff. It's just beautiful. And there's a sunset. You have this gorgeous rose dress on. And I was like, this wasn't planned by the way. Yeah. I was like, Catherine, look out. Like the sunset's incredible. I take a picture. It's just like silhouette picture. And I'm like, Catherine, this is the most gorgeous picture ever. You look at, I'm like, oh my God, we could frame this. That's when it clicked to me. I was like, wait a second. I can get you to do silhouette pictures at every single stop and be like it's a thing we're doing it and then at the engagement be like silhouette picture get on a knee so that was especially since I don't like taking photos yeah like by myself like whenever you want me to like take a photo I'm like I'm I can't do it so the only way you could get me to do that by myself is if I wasn't looking so that was smart of you right okay so then we're in we're in Lake Como and we're trying We haven't had any photos other than the silhouette photos. We need some more photos at home. So I put on this date, but it's like, hey, we're at the Airbnb. We're going to go to the next hotel just to get different scenes. It's a different area. It's Minascio. It's different than here. Minascio. And so I was like, we're going to just move. And then like Evan said a couple things up. We're going to do a boat or whatever. And you're like, cool, let's do it. And then you put on that yellow dress. And I was like, oh, my God, that's so Italy. I got to match you. So I was trying to like downplay what was happening. Did you at all in the morning of think there was potentially a proposal coming? No, because I'm not super particular about what I'm wearing or like outfits. I'm usually in sweats for wags, but I think that it was like, these are photos we're going to have for forever. So I know we both wanted to match each other's vibes. So it was kind of like, okay, I have this black and white thing. We'll save that for a night that you're wearing black. So each morning you and I would kind of be like, what do you want to wear? And figure out something that will at least not clash together in photos. And that yellow dress I had saved for France in my head. Oh, wow. But I liked it the best. And then knowing photos were potential, I was like, well, whatever. Like France is cool, but like it's not going to be embossed in like a potential frame. So that's when you were like, no, I feel like that dress is great. I was like, that's just perfect. Well, and the only other white dress I had, I already wore, like not on purpose. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. And I mean, it's a white dress in the summer. It's like common. but so it wasn't like you could have hinted at being like oh maybe you should wear that white dress today so yeah and you didn't seem overly stressed out if anything you kept saying we shouldn't rush you know like take your time and we're always rushed right because we're always a little late something's like a little bit you know around the corner and I haven't taken the time to put makeup on and just take forever to do it and I remember being so happy that we just got to sit around. I mean, I dried my hair for way too long just to like take time to feel pretty. And then, yeah, then we got in our little rental car and headed to that hotel. Headed to the hotel. So we head to the hotel and someone had asked, how do you plan a engagement when you're in Europe? Evan worked with this one travel company called Fiore and they helped him. So I think if you're planning anything in Europe like that, that's like relatively big, try to work with someone who speaks the language, who knows the areas, who does the stuff. So this hotel, I find about two weeks before and I booked it. By the way, we did all our planning, right? No, do not let me in on that. I did not do anything. I do a lot of things for us. The hotels, the drive. I mean, everything. I was like, I got this. One thing I love about summer is just how easy everything feels. The days are a little more relax. And, you know, I will tell you just being in Europe, so comfortable. And that's why in preparation for Europe, and even with majority of my summer apparel, Quince is a great answer. They focus on well-made essentials that naturally become those everyday staples you can actually live in all season long. So one of the things that served me well over in Europe, stylish, but affordable was their a hundred percent European linen pants and their shirts are just super breathable, easy to throw on, huge summer upgrade. And they just started at $34, 34 bucks. Their tees are super soft as well. You can live in those things all day. And they got these light cotton sweaters right when it cools down at night. You can also do it yourself today and the resources out there, you can do it, especially if you're someone that's like, let's be nimble. Let's, let's be flexible. But we get to the, oh man, here we go. While we're at the hotel or while we're going towards a hotel, I'm working with a travel company and Evan and everyone to be like, make sure there's nothing congratulatory in this room. Like if we go into this room and it's like, congratulations, it's blown. That's the worst part about planning engagement. Your biggest fear is it's going to get blown. You work so hard to just be like, don't screw this up like don't screw it up so we get there i'm like are we going to be good to check in they tell me yes you're gonna be able to check in we get there and then i find out we can't check in now that stupid weekender bag which i've been holding so tight to my chest every freaking place from greece to italy the guy when we check our when we go to a valet our car he's like i take your bag i said no i riffed it back that was the first time you noticed like wait he's being super protective of this bag. You did it with that guy and then when we got to Lake Como at the Airbnb I tried to get it out of the car. And I just grabbed it from you. Yeah just like a little But you didn't clock that at first though right? No I thought you had cash in there or like I don't know like a watch or something. So I was like that was a little odd but yeah I just thought you had a watch but then I asked you that night. I said did you like bring a watch or something? Like why? But I didn't say why. I didn't say the weekend or anything. You asked me, did you think there might have been a ring in there? No. I just was like, was this man a drug mule? What's going on? Just holding his bag so tight. All right. So then we can't check in, but we're all dolled up, ready to go on the boat. We're all geared up. We're ready to go. I'm in La La Land because I just wanted to like. Yeah, we're just having fun. So we go to the back. We have a Hugo Spritz. We meet this family from New York. Everything's good. Photographer, videographer, be there at 3.30. That's when the boat's going to happen. I then get a text. It's like 3.20. And you're like, all right, let's close up. We close up. We're ready to go. I get a text that the videographer is going to be 45 minutes late. 45 minutes. You're going to be 45. How am I supposed, what am I supposed to do? I think that's when you went and got a beer. And then I clocked that you were like nervous because you only do that if you are like needing to take a little bit of edge off. Because like I just had a drink and I went to get a beer, which I wouldn't do. It was the, yeah, like when you are like stressed, I feel like you wouldn't get a cocktail. You would have a beer. And I was like, I mean, I get that we want to go on this boat, but like also look around. It's fine. So I remember just like processing that you just seemed a little bit pressed. But again, I'm not going, I'm getting engaged. I'm just like, I feel bad that you're like pressed about the boat. So we're 40 minutes late and this hotel is unbelievable. We'll show you if you go to YouTube, listen to this and we'll show you on YouTube and on the clips on social media, Tray Secrets podcast. But it's a Grand Hotel Victoria. It's just gorgeous. And you walk down their walkway and it takes you this unbelievable area where you're overlooking all Lake Como. Bellagio's across the way. It's just perfect. and the direction was for the photographer and the videographer to hide so that they can get really good photos and get good video and this is perfect we know the spot I know where to stand right before we get on the boat which is what you thought we were going to do to go get on the boat so we're we're sitting there and we're delayed and we're delayed and delayed. And then what happens? The bag phone call. Yeah. So we've obviously talked about it. The bag was, was clocking to me a little bit. And then we closed out. We went to, I went to the bathroom to like freshen up. And I just was thinking about it and thinking about it and was like, you know, I didn't see this coming from a million miles away, but I'm like the 1% chance that I'm off. I'm going to call my girl. And I called Elisa from the bathroom. And I was like, this weekender situation is throwing me a little bit. So I'm going to just to one human being right now in this moment, I'm going to be like, there's a small chance I'm getting engaged. She knows I'm getting engaged. So she texted you right away and was like, lose the weekender. It's tipping her off. Immediately. So Catherine's in the bathroom, and Alisa texts me, lose the weekender. And I give her so much credit because— What percentage did you think you were going to get proposed to at that point? Four. Oh, wow. Okay. One to four percent. It was just because I know you so well that it was just like there is some type of explanation, but unless I like weirdly corner you about your bag and question you about it, which just felt unnecessary. And, or if I was right, I didn't want to then ruin it. Yeah. So I'm not going to be like, why are you being a freak about your bag? Now, context stuff, people listening, people are like, well, why would you, you guys go to the pool to have a drink? It's beautiful villa type style. Why would you bring the bag? That actually added to it though, because you're so type B that you were like, we're going to bring the champagne on the boat. So then this is going to be the boat bag. I was like, we'll throw our chargers there. We got wine and champagne in there. We'll just still have a time on it. I was like, we'll be bringing it on the boat. But you were kind of like in a normal world. I wouldn't do that. You would have been like, shit, we don't have anything to bring the champagne in. And then you would have been like asking the bartender like, hey, you got a bag back there. I got to bring the champagne in the boat. I'm a free weekender. Yeah, so you were like establishing that it was like the boat bag. And so I was like, okay, it's the boat bag. So then I get out of the bathroom. Elisa has texted you. and you're immediately like, and I'm sure to people listening, they might be like, girl, you're dumb. But you played it off so chill that you were like, this is so unnecessary. Like, why am I carrying around this like big bag? We can save the bottle of wine for later. And then you're like, you don't even drink that much. Are you even going to drink this champagne on the boat? And I was like, kind of annoyed because then I feel like the vibe just like shifted so much because I'm like, I'm drinking a Hugo Spritz. I got a tan. I feel good. I like took four hours to get ready today. Not really, but you know, and then you were like, yeah, I mean, like, I guess if you're going to drink some, I'll bring it. And I remember being like, I mean, if you don't want to bring the champagne, like, okay, like that's fine. And then you would also text it, Evan. I then texted my business partner. So I'm, I feel like at this point I've, I've played picture perfect. There's no way she knows. So when I got that message that at least is like ditch the bag, I went over the top to be like, we should ditch the bag. and also time was ticking so it made something like you know we've been waiting for a while let's just we don't even let's just have a drink here we'll leave it like you know played it like that then i texted evan my business partner call me immediately with a business issue so he calls me immediately starts the best part about that story is he's in the middle of a massage and he has a iWatch on and he gets iWatch and i go um and he knows i'm gonna be proposing to you he thinks at this point i'm probably proposing because it was late he goes and it says call me immediately make up a business issue. So he calls me. He's like, dude, you're not going to believe what happened. We got this deal. We need to get this and that. And this person screwed it up. So I start reacting to that. I'm like, I can't believe that. You got to be kidding me. Catherine's like, Jason, we're in Italy here. Stop it. Like enough. And I'm like, you know what? This is how bad I was playing into it. I was like, you know what? Maybe we shouldn't go on the boat. Yeah, I got to go take care. And you're like, are you joking me? So at that point, After he called and I ditched the bag, did you think there was any chance I was getting? No. If anything, I was just annoyed because it's like we both have jobs that don't really sleep. But like with WAGs, there's just you have dogs, you have volunteers. There's just always stuff going on. So we had kind of agreed like, hey, we're never going to get to do this again. So unless there's really a reason you need to be on the phone, we're not going to really be on our phones. and you played, you really risked pissing me off because you were, you, as somebody who is pretty even keeled, you were like so mad. Not a great actor. And the funnier part is that I think Evan thought he was supposed to make a bigger deal of a problem, but he said you guys are going to lose like $4,000 of commission on a deal. And I was like, I... Like we weren't getting paid on this or something. Yeah, I was like, I couldn't care less. Get off of the phone. And you even, you hung up and you're like, man, that's annoying. And I was like, oh my gosh, I need us to move on from this. So I kind of walked ahead of you being like, you seem like you didn't even really want to go on the boat. So I texted Alisa and there was to Abby and to Jill and I think Alexa. Those were like the four people that I was like, little spidey senses were going off. And so I texted Jill and Elisa, I think in that moment and was like, I feel stupid. Like my radar was way off. The bag is gone. And then you had linen pants on. So I clearly would have seen a ring box. So I had texted them being like, nevermind, just forget about this because I was clearly wrong. And we can't forget that. I ditched, oh my gosh, this is so high risk. I ditched the ring box, put it in the weekender. And then I was going raw dog with the ring. The ring was in my pocket. Raw dog. Like just flopping around. Flopping around like a fish. So now I've like overdone it so much. Now here's, okay. I don't even think I've told you this. We walk out. Finally, this videographer's here and you're in the bathroom and we're about to walk out. And the biggest thing I said, photographer, videographer, hiding, non-conspicuous. You're in the bathroom, the whole staff, it felt like when you know you're on a cruise ship and there's like a hundred people lined up for your entrance. It's like they had every person from the hotel right here. This is the way. And it was like a stack and you're in the bathroom. I'm like, guys, go. Just stop. That normal, normal business course. Then you come out. And now at this point, you're like irritated. Yeah. I'm like, okay, let's get on this damn boat. Now we go down this beautiful area. We're getting towards the end. And now we get towards the end. And you were like, this is really nice. And I said, look at it over there. And that's the place I was supposed to stand. And you're like, wow, that's nice. And I said, we got to get a silhouette of this. and you look at me and you're like there's a photographer right there we're going on the boat this is the we've done eight silhouettes this whole year i'm so sad i mean we have hit every silhouette and by the way every silhouette by the way you're like this is amazing perfect doing the whole thing so katherine at this point because the photographers and the videographers didn't hide the photographer sitting there you're like i'm not doing a silhouette he's right there she's right there we'll get pictures on the boat i was like the best part i was like you know what i want a silhouette first time in europe so i'm sitting on the ledge of this area in lake como i got the ring raw dogging in my left pocket i have this thing falls in the water toast gone and i'm asking katherine to take silhouette photos of me to try and calm the energy to get her to eventually take silhouette. So she's snapping away. We will post these photos. They are insane. It's so bad. And I'm sitting there, this, this, this, this. And I go, babe, these are pretty sick. You got to take one. And when I said that, what did you think? Support for today's episode comes from Square, the business platform that helps sellers become neighborhood favorites. Well, I think, listen, obviously your job is to post things online, but you're not a like, take a picture of me guy. You've literally never asked me that. So then to have that be asked in a moment where I'm like, one, mildly irritated, but two, the silhouette of like a dude, I was like, uh sure honey like not irritated more just like confused of like what are you this behavior is not you i'm gonna have to tell him later that he's not allowed to post this because like go back to did you go back to maybe he's proposing now no i was just like why does this man need a photo well your like legs are like hanging off the your legs are like dangling like a little like you know And your five-year-old's like their feet, they can't touch the ground. And I'm like, this is not. At this point, I'm stuck, right? The videographer, photographer there, this is the, they gave me an X. You have to stay. If you want a photo here, you got to stay in it. So I'm panicking. But I wasn't, could you tell I was panicking? I'm panicking. No. I mean, I just was like, this dude just needs his picture. So I like, I mean, I took like so many. Literally, I don't think I've ever done that too. Unless you were like taking a picture with like a famous person, And it was so obvious that I like needed to capture like a moment or something. Like you've never been like, take a pic of me. Never. So I was like, okay, sure. So then I look at it and I'm like, these are pretty sick. Let me get one. And you're like, all right, fine. Okay, fine. So then you do it though. I was like, look left, look right, look straight. And you're working it. So we have the photos of her taking these silhouettes of me, me taking them of her. And that's when I went on a knee. And you had no idea. No, I literally said, can I turn around now? because it was like a long period of time because you probably were like trying to get a few then I'm sure to like get down on one knee and no I mean you can't fake that reaction my face looks kind of insane I look so shocked and I think that yeah that one little tiny baby moment in the bathroom of thinking it was happening was like poof gone so yeah that was just and I think that's where one I went down on my knees there's like not even really a picture of me standing like you know like sometimes there's those proper photos of like the girl like standing there and the guy in one knee I just like went crouched down on the floor with you and then I didn't look at the ring for so long I just kept holding your face and wanting to just kind of take in the moment because I think that so many women it's a big deal so people sometimes go like back to the ring like we never went ring shopping and the ring, I wasn't like, get me this ring. I was like, I like this cut. Oh, wait, I didn't even, go ahead, go ahead. So in Greece, I was literally showing Jason photos, pictures of rings that looked like this. Cause I was like, okay, like he should have some guidance because you and I both agreed. Like I, there's so few surprises in life that I was like, I don't want to know what it looks like. I want to like it. It's going to be in my hand every day. So all I said was I wanted gold, but I never said like, get me an elongated cushion cut ever. No. On the podcast here. Right here in this exact table. And it was- With Olivia. I had already had the ring in my hands and Olivia said about Taylor Swift's ring. And I said, you can tell me about the ring. I'm in the market, you know? And she didn't know. And I was like, hold my beer. It's an elongated cushion cut. I was like, oh my God, thank God. I texted photos of those rings to a few of my girlfriends being like. Which none of your girlfriends told me. No, you. Elise is the only one that knew about it. But even it was way before or way after you got the ring. After I got the ring. Yeah. So way of the ring, I want to, that's why I was going to interrupt to tell you this. I asked you when we're at Italy before I proposed, I go, we're at dinner. Because you brought up the ring. You're like, we should talk about what the ring would look like. I like yeah I said what size are you And you like I don know I might be a six I might be a five and a half I might be I was like oh Jesus Christ I chat GPT that and made it up I started freaking out again. So then I started taking, I somehow was like, so let me see the real, let's see the size. I asked to see the rings. Okay. I was using. Oh yeah. You were shoving that one gold ring on your pinky finger. Do you remember me jamming it on my finger? And I was like, I don't know why he's doing that. Dude, I was using your ring that worked for one finger and trying to put it on mine and it wouldn't fit or it would fit. And then I went to the actual ring and it wouldn't fit and I was freaking out about it. So then I brought in, I brought like a little thing of chapstick just in case when I proposed, like it wouldn't fit on. You did, but you asked me for it. Like that's how like prepared you were trying to be. You're like, do you have, because I always have like 42 lip, like lip glosses or like chapsticks in my purse. And you were like, do you have your aquaphor? and so you had that in your pocket because you were like this is this baby's going on one way or another it's going on yeah but no and that's the thing like you wouldn't we're sitting down there and I'm talking to you and one of the things I said which I already mentioned this podcast was uh when I said earlier when we started dating I can't imagine another day without you and I ended it by saying no I never will yeah well back to what I was saying earlier is I think that a lot a lot of women envision what that's going to be like because they are like, yeah, we've gone ring shopping. We've talked about this. We, I know I'm going on this trip. Maybe I don't know this exact moment, but it's happening, which is great. Like, you know, some women have no idea. Then they're like mad that they're like wearing, you know, something that they didn't like. So we were kind of in that middle ground where I think some people would be like, girl, like you were in Europe, but you didn't think that he was going to propose. And naturally we're like getting dressed up and doing all these things. So, you know, we looked the part. But I think I couldn't take, I didn't want the moment to end because I hadn't thought about it. I hadn't thought about you being on one knee or what that would be like because it was just the fall. It was like not happening. So you literally were like, do you want to look at the ring? And I was like, no, yeah. She went like, she's like, no, yeah, no, yeah. yeah what did you think when you saw that ring holy shit no I mean I think that sometimes engagements and proposing to people like we've talked about it like weddings and the ring all that I think sometimes overshadows the point of it all you know of like hi we're gonna die together that's a big deal and a big commitment but at the same time I also think it's not lost on me that there's so much thought that is put into that day and that moment and that choice like by the guy and so knowing like how many conversations which you have very few that I know nothing about that you were like I want this for her I think is really special especially because I didn't pick it yeah so knowing that I'm like I would have picked this myself you know yeah it's my favorite thing ever. Did you ask my dad? I did. My dad's like my best friend and he's, I said this to you before, it's like, he's the opposite of, you know, get my daughter home by nine kind of guy. He's so chill. He just wants to talk about the Beatles and what steaks are good. So because we're in our mid thirties, we also never talked about that. I never was like, Hey, you know, you better ask my father. And so there was like a little baby panic in me that was like, Oh my God, like, do my parents know. So those are the two things that I like cared about of not knowing and having there be a surprise and then having you talk to my parents and having them be excited for us. I love it. It was beautiful, special, amazing night. Got to FaceTime everyone, then took some time for ourselves to digest it all and then shared it last week. So this is Beyond exciting. We had people ask some questions here. Someone asked, what's the most important quality in a forever partner after best friends in chemistry? I think this kind of goes into best friends, but I think being honest about compatibility. Like if you see the world so differently than somebody else, there's going to be little things I think that seep into. how you communicate or why you, again, see the world certain ways and in alignment on that. And everyone should be their own individual, but life is already just so hard. So I think that having a partner where you're not trying to like understand a different language, you know, you and I might not see eye to eye on a particular topic or decision, but it's pretty easy to navigate the why behind that. So I think that you should pay attention to compatibility and how you envision and interpret the world. Yeah, I think this question says best friends in chemistry. That's super important. I think compatibility is huge. I was thinking about this probably weeks and weeks ago. I think this goes for business too, at least for the way I operate. I think the person that you're with, I feel like this statement's fair. The person that you're with for life, your teammate through the hardest, like the most challenging circumstances you'll ever go through, hell or high water, you have to have someone that has a big part of their heart that's selfless. You have to. And I think selfishness is the demise of everything. I think it's demise of life. I think it's demise of business. I think it's demise of relationships. In life, there are times you have to be self, you have to take care of yourself. But I think you have to find someone that has a heart and brain that can be selfless because a teammate takes selflessness. There are times you are down and out and I will be there no matter what. Everything will be canceled, whatever it is, however I can lend a hand. I'll give you my kidney. I'll give you half my heart, whatever I got to do. And I think you need like a teammate in life that can be selfless in a lot of circumstances. And I think right now I see with a lot of relationships and looking, you know, humanity in a lot of areas, right. Without getting too specific about things, just like selfishness is the demise. It's like the ultimate demise. It reminds me of something my therapist said once, and she said, you know, you should always look at your partner. And if anyone in your life, whether you know them or it's a stranger came up to you and said, Hey, you just remind me so much of Jason. How does that make you feel? So someone said, Hey, Oh my God, you have so many qualities, just like Catherine. I'd be like, that was the nicest thing you could ever say to me. Yeah. So it goes back to, yes, love can take you so far, but if you don't like each other, then yeah, it's just not going to, it's not going to work. And if somebody described me similarly to you, I'd take it as a compliment. Likewise. Yeah. The best compliment. Someone said, how do you not lose hope finding your person until later in life? I guess I'll jump on this one. I think each chapter in life is a lesson. Each lesson, you can make a decision. Does it shape you to be the best person that you want to be? Or do you keep repeating your same patterns? And life is just, it's just one big story of a whole lot of chapters. And every chapter of my life, literally since day one, has shaped me to who I am today. and when you can't see light at the end of the tunnel if you keep shaping yourself when you least expect it the light's coming and that's that's a piece of advice I would give I think I mean it is crazy how we met it's wild our story it's it's just crazy I've got to go find that mailman who put two dog bones on my front door I was sad I posted about it on social media I then had your CMO, Elisa, reached out to me saying, come volunteer at Wags and Walks. I walk in the door with John Gurney. I meet you. We become friends. I rescue Teddy. Our friendship turns into a relationship. And walking in the doors of Wags and Walks forever changed every single aspect of my life. And when you least expect it, I think when you continue to just work on yourself, the good things come and in times of trouble there's going to be so many I don't know how to say it other than like distractions and demons that are going to try and pull you in ways that you shouldn't go and just like keep your character keep your class keep your integrity stay your course and it will work out I think something that also really helped our relationship in terms of is this going to work and is this worth going down this path is because we were friends and we didn't meet on hinge, there was no pressure to speak to each other a certain way or impress you. We've even discussed this. If you didn't adopt Teddy, you could have just left that day and we would have never had a reason to speak again. But because you adopted this dog, yada, yada, yada. And then as we became friends, you're having more free-flowing conversations that are just authentically what you actually need and who you actually are versus when you're on a date. We didn't go on a date for so long. So when you go meet somebody, and you're going to have to date people. So that's just the reality of life. But if you can try to bring it back in, it is not helpful to you to try to impress somebody else. Obviously put in effort, but I remember playing 21 questions kind of one night at a bar of, all right, let's find the thing that doesn't work here. And I think because we were both very honest about who we are, it allowed us to connect. I also remember, this is getting pretty personal here, but I remember being in a place where I was like, I'm gravitating so much towards this person. I think this is my person, but I still had wounds I was working on to just make sure. Like if I'm taking the jump, like you said, I feel like you're trying to figure out if you're going to marry me before you date me. and I remember talking to my therapist about it and the therapist was like, if she's the person for you and based on what you're telling me she is, you let her know exactly what you just told me and that you just need a little bit of time to keep navigating what you're going through, I promise you that person will hear you, understand you and be there for you even if it's just as a friend. that's why daisies was so funny when it came out because we were like seeing each other casually here and there but this the line in the song was if you need time honey i get it i get it i get it and so when that song came out i'm really sending that to you but yeah i agree with all those things yeah i also want to give you kudos too that like i think a lot of people don't see certain things online, right? So they see us hard launching and then you being in love with me and like all these things. But you are like the definition of the opposite of a guy who loved bombs because you wouldn't say the thing I wanted you to say, but you gave me your time. We would go to coffee and I'd be like, are we friends? What is going on here? And we talked about just off the wall shit. I mean everything under the sun but it wasn't like you know I wasn't sending you like selfies being like hey I look cute today it was there was there was like an underlying flirtation as we were dating but not like in it in it but yeah you wouldn't say the thing I think a lot of guys are like you're amazing I can't believe you're single you know like that kind of stuff you didn't you would not give me any of that in the beginning but you you gave me your time and attention And that was annoying at times. But I was like, there is something very intentional with this. Yeah. And I think that, yeah, that's beautiful. Perfectly said. And yeah, I mean, I just can't wait. People are asking what's next. They're asking destination wedding, wedding in the States. What does it look like? I can't believe we're running short on time here, but where would you say your head's at? I think we have it narrowed down to three spots. Three spots? Which would be out of the states. Cabo is like the number one out of state location. And then Nashville and Michigan. Yeah. Those are brainstorming now. We're trying to come up with obviously like Buffalo hometown, but I think I live in Nashville. Maybe we'll do it here. Maybe we'll do it where you're from. or maybe we'll do it somewhere out of the country. And right now we don't want to go to Europe. Definitely don't want to do that. No, we want to be considerate of my sister has four kids, like, you know, some older people and making it accessible to some of the family members we need there. Yeah. It's a combo of wanting your dream wedding, but also making sure that your dream wedding stays true to what it is. And I think for both of us, it's having all the people that have made us who we are there. Yeah. I'm just like trying to marry you. I don't need to like, like I want, I want a beautiful wedding. I want it to feel like us, but that's what I said earlier. I don't want to get like lost in the sauce of some of the, some of the things that I just don't know will be important a month after you get married, you know, and I don't, we have enough stress in our lives. We have very busy, important jobs and I don't need to save the date to lose sleep over it. Yeah, I agree. The last question I got for you that was asked, do you want kids? I want kids with you I actually really want to say this Because I think there's a lot of women that would relate I never was the type of woman that was like I am born to be a mother You are by the way But I never felt that way I always knew I would be a good mom I will take care of a child But I didn't think about it much when I was younger And then as I got older I was like Ew, no, I'm good I met you and I said I didn't want kids. And I think that that shows the importance of a partner in your life and something I talked about a lot in therapy. And I want your babies. If something happened to you or I never met you, I would have never pursued having a child on my own. I have some girlfriends, one even recently, this girl that I just adore. She had a baby by herself. And I'm like, I cannot imagine, but you do you. My sister having four kids, she was Dawn, my sister-in-law. It was like, that is a person who was just born to be a mother. Every little fiber of her being, I would have never gone out of my way to do that. And I think that freaks some women out because it's not talked about enough. I think a lot of people feel that way. And so, yeah, we will have kids, all things, you know, willing. and yeah, I felt like I met the love of my life and wanted to have a partner that I could parent well with and yeah, seeing a little scraggly little kid running around, I'm like, yeah, hell yeah, I'll do that with you. With you. Maybe a couple. Maybe a couple. Two max. Two max. Two max. All right. Cheers. Well, our time's ticking. I love you so much. Love you. I cannot wait for what 2027 will bring. And you're the most special person I've ever met in my life. You are an actual living angel. That's not true. You are a living fucking angel. I'm just your bestie. Bestie. All right. Let's drink these. Love you. Love you too. Detroit this weekend. Oh, yeah. Going to go make an ice cream cone. Celebration going. And a life full of health, happiness, and all the time in the world to enjoy it. And dogs. Dogs. Cheers. Cheers. I have Ornod in 2013 opgericht. We make fietskleding.
