Summary

The episode discusses two LSU Tigers named to the Walter Camp preseason All-America team: tight end Tradez Green (first team) and offensive tackle Jordan Seaton (second team). Host Matt Moscona breaks down both players' trajectories, statistical projections, and what their presence means for LSU's 2026 offensive outlook under new head coach Lane Kiffin. The episode also covers LSU's offensive tackle depth chart and two upcoming recruiting commitments at the safety position.

Insights
  • Tradez Green has shown exponential year-over-year statistical growth (13 to 33 catches, 101 to 433 yards) despite injury-shortened seasons, suggesting a massive breakout is plausible in 2026 under Kiffin's tight end-friendly system.
  • Jordan Seaton's PFF pass-blocking grades (75 as freshman, 84 as sophomore) reveal elite pass protection ability when healthy, making his health the single biggest variable in LSU's 2026 ceiling.
  • Lane Kiffin's offensive philosophy of distributing targets across 4-6 trusted receivers, including tight ends, creates a system where Tradez Green's versatility (lining up at TE, H-back, slot, and wide receiver) maximizes his impact.
  • LSU is deliberately building offensive line depth with a pipeline of prospects (Weston Davis, Sean Tompkins, Darren Stray, Bryce Martinez) designed to develop over multiple years rather than rely on immediate contributors.
  • Preseason All-America recognition, while not a guarantee of performance, serves as a meaningful benchmark for player expectations and reflects recruiting and development success under a new coaching staff.

Okay, let's get it. It is Locked on lsu, your team every day. I'm your host, Matt Moscona. Thanks so much for hanging out with us and making us your first listen. The preseason Walter Camp All America team is out and two LSU Tigers have been honored both on the offensive side of the ball. That probably isn't a giant surprise considering Lane Kiffin comes in. He's an offensive minded coach. We all anticipate that LSU should be really good on offense given Lane Kiffin's track record. And one player is a returning player and one player is a new player coming in. So the returning player is traded as Green, who is named a first team preseason All American by the Walter Camp foundation. And Jordan Seaton, the left tackle, was named preseason second team All American. So let me give you a little context on the Walter Camp All America Award list, why this matters and then I want to talk a little bit about those position groups, in particular tight end, offensive tackle. We're going to get to that in today's episode. So Walter Camp is the oldest All America team in the country. It's Walter Camp was considered the father of American football. He's the guy, not that you need a history lesson, but he's the guy that introduced the play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals, tries, all that sort of stuff. So Walter camp started the 1880s is sort of the father of American football as we know it. And the Walter Camp foundation is the one that issues the All America team. And they've done that since 1967. So you're talking about a longest standing, the oldest standing All America team. And so they listed a for a preseason first team offense, second team offense, first team, second team defense. And the two players honored were traded as Green as your first team. Tight end Jordan Seaton as a second team offensive tackle. For what it's worth. The rest of the first team at quarterback, Arch Manning, receiver Malachi Tony from Miami, Jeremiah Smith from Ohio State. Elite level players, right? The offensive line names you may not recognize just given the fact that most people don't pay a ton of attention to the offensive line. Unfortunately, you're running back Kiwan Lacey from Ole Miss and Ahmad Hardy from Missouri. It's notable. Lacey, of course played a season ago at Ole Miss under Lane Kiff and Charlie Weiss under this offense. And then on defense, Dylan Stewart, Colin Simmons, Tyree Tucker, Tim Tutoy from Oregon. That's your defensive line at linebacker, Xavier. I can. Sammy Brown, Rashin Biles from Texas. I, I could go on. The bottom line is a lot of really talented players. But the two LSU players listed, as I mentioned, were traders Green and Jordan Seaton. Now the other thing that's worth mentioning is a year ago Whit Weeks was a preseason first team all American and unfortunately injuries really limited Whit Weeks's season. He only ended up playing in 18 games. But really that's an asterisk because you know, one of those games was when he was super limited due to injury late in the season against Western Kentucky when he was just playing to get all three weeks brothers on the field. Another one of those games was the Florida game where he was ejected after three plays due to targeting. So Weeks really only played six games in total. And I, I guess did he really play a full game against, against Oklahoma at the end of the season? It's, it's a giant asterisk, but let's say you know, half a season. So because you want a preseason all conference award doesn't necessarily mean that you're going to live up to that billing, but it is sort of a good benchmark to determine expectation. And when we talk about trade as Green, I'm not sure that there's any greater expectation. Remember Green when he came to LSU was a five star tight end and he was, Guy was two sport guy and as a freshman was still learning football, played in 13 games, started twice, he only had 13 catches, but of his 13 catches, four of them were for touchdowns. So he didn't have a necessarily productive freshman year because he was still learning football. But when he was on the field it was impactful. So they go into 25 and the thought is, man, he's going to have an awesome season. He stopped playing basketball, as we know, focused fully on football. Trade has talked to us in the off season last year about his physical development, how he had lost some 20 pounds playing basketball, had to regain that weight. So really this was his first full season fully invested in football and it was a really good year until injuries set in. He played in just 11 games. He started six times, caught 33 catches for 433 and seven touchdowns. So let me make this make sense saying 33 catches for 433 yards and seven touchdowns isn't necessarily going to be this amazing number. But let's compare year over year. Okay? Year one, 13 catches. Year two, 33. Year one, 101 yards. Year two, 433, he quadrupled his number. Year one, four touchdowns. Year two, seven, he nearly doubled that number. The point is, Tradez Green went from year one, where he was seldom used, to year two, focusing on football, even not playing a full season because of injury, and effectively doubling, tripling, quadrupling his numbers depending on the statistic. So there's a big question about what can they do this year in Lane Kiffin's offense. Well, something Lane Kiffin said in spring about Tradez Green was really optimistic.

Well, his skill set is, is ultra elite, okay, but so is his mindset. And that's really, really unique to have because they usually don't coincide. You know, high the safety has it too and Jordan seems to have it. Not just signifies those three guys, but if you were a scout out there watching, you know, those three guys would stand out from a skill set of ultra elite. But then to know too what the scout doesn't know, just watching, you know, if you're just watching like how they work in their mindset. And he just, I mean, he doesn't even have another speed. He doesn't have another, you know, thought besides, this is how you do things. We talk to our guys about the standards of standards. Like the standard, what you work shouldn't change because what network a game's on shouldn't change because now everyone's out there watching practice first Sunday when nobody was watching. And he has that. And again, that's really important because a lot of times you got to bring players in that. But in your first year too, inherit a player that has that. He's really, really unique that way. And that's really critical for him in this system because the way he works and how he's, he's moved, his conditioning allows you to play more in our system and not have to rotate as much. Kind of like what we talked about at a running back spot. So now you can have a really big type of year.

You know, I look at how Lane Kiff and Charlie Weiss have used tight ends in this offense and when you look at just this past year at Ole miss, Daquan Wright, 39 catches, 635 yards, five touchdowns, kind of on par, just a little more than trade is really what trade is would have done if he played a full season. You go back to 2024. Kaden Prescorn and Daquan Right. If you combine their statistics, 54 catches for 800 yards and seven touchdowns, that feels realistic for trade as going into the season. You want to go back further look at 2023 at Ole Miss. Prescorn and Michael Trigg and Kyron Heath and Hudson Wolf. You had a bunch of tight ends that all contributed. But Prescorn had a season that year that mirrored trade as this season almost identical as far as productivity. We look I can do this for all every year lanes ever Coach. We can go back further and you go back to 2022. Michael Trigg, you had 17 catches for 156. Casey Kelly three for 17. That was a lower year statistically in 22 for tight ends. But if you kind of look throughout the years when Lane Kiffin is and Charlie Weiss have had those guys that they trust in this offense, the productivity has been there. One of the things we've talked about plenty throughout this off season with Kiffin is about receivers and how he doesn't necessarily focus on one guy top heavy. He wants depth. Four to six guys they trust at that position that can all be contributors. Well, the tight end kind of mixes in there and and we really saw that this year in spring because trade as lined up everywhere and this isn't one of those things where I have to guess because Lane Kiffin was quite honestly very generous and let the media go watch practice and so we get to watch 11 on elevens and we get to watch trade as line up with his hand in the dirt as an attached tight end. We get to watch trade as lineup as a in a two point stance, as an H back. We got the watch trade as lineup and in the slot we got to watch tradez lineup wide as a receiver. The undeniable reality about tradez this year is they realize he is their best pass catcher and most imposing offensive weapon. So they are going to use him everywhere throughout this offense. It's undeniable. And when you look at how Kiffin and Weiss have integrated the tight end, there's just no question. I mean trade as is going to be a guy that when you look at his statistics so far through two years from you know, 13 catches to 33 catches, 101 yards to 433 yards, four touchdowns to seven touchdowns. Like what if he doubles those numbers from 13 to 33 to 66, from 101 to 433 to 900, from 4 to 7 to 15. Like what if trade as Green is a 60 catch 900 yard, 14 touchdown guy. Well, of course he's an All American. I think that's probably what's in store for trade as here in his junior season before he's off to the NFL. Now, one of the guys that's going to be blocking for him, of course, is Jordan Seaton, the offensive tackle transfer from Colorado. And that's the other preseason All America from Walter Camp that I want to talk about. We'll do next. It's locked in lsu, your team every day foreign. The biggest stage in world soccer is here. Jordan Seaton from Colorado is the other Walter Camp preseason All American representing lsu. He's a second team all American tackle and we've talked a lot about Seaton because when he went into the portal, his recruitment was fast and high profile. Remember Jordan Seaton when he went into the portal, leaving Colorado became really notorious because he made the visit to lsu. He was supposed to then take a visit to Oregon, which he didn't make, but then ended up going to Atlanta, but not before during his visit he made a trip to the Governor's Mansion. Here on the show we did a a funny bit, a lot of you really appreciate it called Seaton Watch. It was kind of a spin off the Ron Burgundy panda watch. But we were piecing together timelines of Jordan Seaton's Instagram story at the Governor's Mansion and piecing it all together and ultimately determined that, you know, the governor, Jeff Landry was a big part in, in Jordan Seaton and his, his recruitment at lsu and ultimately when Seaton didn't commit to LSU and left and went home to Atlanta or went to Atlanta, I should say Lane Kiffin. Then got on a plane and flew to Atlanta to go get more FaceTime with Jordan Seat. This was obviously a prospect late in the process that they really identified as essential. And at the time, if you don't recall, that's okay if you're an everyday or you might remember this. If not, it's perfectly fine. I mean it's been, it's been a whirlwind in this Kiffin era. But the really interesting part is the way that I look at Seton and what has been reported. I've not confirmed this by the way, but what has been reported A four million dollar deal for Jordan Seaton. I look at that as insurance for your biggest investment, which is Sam Levitt. I've said this many times. The only way that LSU achieves whatever its ceiling is in the 2026 season is if Sam Levitt is upright. Well, a brick wall of a left tackle that's a future top 15 first round NFL Draft pick is a pretty good insurance policy on your quarterback. So here's the deal on Seaton. If you're not familiar because we've talked a lot about Seaton. I don't know that we've given you Seaton's bio. Plenty of so Jordan Seaton is 6 5. He's listed at 307. He's out of Washington D.C. but went to IMG Academy and he was the unanimous number one offensive tackle in the country for the class of 2024. Unanimous means all the scouting services had Seaton as the number one offensive tackle. So he goes to Colorado as a true freshman. He starts all 13 games at left tackle. The Buffs go nine and four. That of course was Shadur Sanders final season and when they had a fantastic season and Seton was named Big 12 freshman of the year. He was a Freshman All American. First freshman to start at left tackle in Colorado history. 13 stars are the most by true freshman in Colorado history. He he basically he steps on campus as a freshman in Travis Hunter's Heisman year is the is the left tackle and stars comes back as a sophomore, starts the first nine games at left tackle but then misses the last three games due to injury. He was second team all Big 12 in 561 offensive snaps. He was whistled for a flag three times. Five hundred and sixty one snaps, three penalties, gave up just one sack, five pressures, no quarterback hits throughout the through, through the nine games that he started. Those are the, the, the numbers the the objective data. If you look at Pff. Which we talk about a lot here. Pro Football focus, which is not the metric. It's just a metric. It's something to consider. As a freshman, Seaton's offensive grade was a 67. As a sophomore was 65. I'm explaining that in a second. His past blocking grade is as A freshman was 75, sophomore 84. Run blocking grades 62 as a freshman, 52 as a sophomore. Get into that in a second. Here's what happened. Look at the nine games that Seaton started and then what happened after he was injured. I'm just going to give you his pass blocking grade starting in week one and working our way down, okay? And remember you get into the 70s, amazing 80s elite 90s your otherworldly okay. Week one against Georgia Tech 78, week 280, 91, 83, 88, 91, 89 incredible through seven weeks. He is incredible. Misses week eight, comes back with injury, comes back week nine of 41, plays week 10 against Arizona. 64, misses the rest of the season. It was very clear. Like you can look at this very noticeable line of demarcation where his, his effectiveness just fell off a cliff. He went from a like 88, 91, 89, 41. Clearly you're talking about a guy that that's where he got injured. But when he has been healthy, when he has been right, Jordan Seaton has been as good a left tackle as there is in college football. It's why when you look at the way too early mock drafts, he's projected as a top 15 pick, maybe the first offensive tackle taken in next year's draft in in the spring of 2027. And honestly, selfishly, I would love for Seaton to stay at LSU for two years. But if Seaton becomes a first round pick in the spring of 27, it's because he stayed healthy and was awesome for LSU in 2026. And if we're being honest, that's what all of us want. So I'm hoping Jordan Seaton is healthy, awesome and becomes a top 15 pick because that means he was great for LSU this year. Protected Sam Levitt means LSU is likely to get closer to its goals for 2026. Now the other interesting part of Seaton coming in is what that means for tackle this year and next at lsu. And I want to dive into that as we continue and also talk about a few flip candidates. We'll do that next. It's locked on lsu. Don't you move your team every day? So we know that Jordan Seaton is going to be LSU starting left tackle in 2026. What's fascinating is what happens at tackle behind Seaton and then looking ahead to 2027 now we know that Weston Davis is still hanging around a guy that initially entered the transfer portal. Well, never formally entered the transfer portal. It was reported that he was going to the portal, had a conversation I over for Louisiana Sports and that had a conversation with Weston Davis's agent that he never officially entered the portal and actually was going to stay. After playing four games as a freshman, played in 12 with 10 starts as a sophomore in 2025. The former Five Star the hope is that Weston Davis comes back to LSU this season and absolutely stars for the Tigers in his third season on campus. The physical ability has always been undeniable with Weston Davis. Can he live up to the physical ability? That's what everyone is hoping to see this year. If he can't, well, there's other potential prospects right there at offensive tackle as well. Remember LSU added Jacobe Jones from Colin. That's Kapia Lincoln played a couple of years and then Sean Tompkins is the most interesting player here because Tompkins was the is a redshirt junior. So he's in his fourth year of college, transferred into LSU from Baylor and Tompkins is a guy that everyone assumed was going to be the plug and play starter at left tackle. Well, that was until LSU added Jordan Seaton. Well, if you look at Tompkins this past year played in 10 games, five starts, the last five of the season as a redshirt freshman. In 2024 he played in just one game, but he played 449 snaps this past year at left tackle. So that's a guy who got experience at left tackle. But then you had the opportunity to bring in Jordan Seon, who's more experienced at a higher level at left tackle. And that means a guy like Tompkins gets to sit and watch and wait. And then there are players like Devin Harper, a kid from Louisiana who signed with Ole Miss, played his freshman season there. You talk to folks to Ole Miss. Harper was supposed to be the plug and play starter at right tackle this year at Ole Miss, but transferred lsu. Well, with Seaton and Davis, it's likely that Harper is a backup this year. Now we saw him in spring rotate at left guard and at right tackle, so maybe he ends up beating out Bordelon for the starting job at left guard. But Harper is a guy that could project as a tackle. There's Darren Stray who transferred in from Kentucky. Remember, you're talking about LSU's offensive line coach. And Eric Wolford, who came from Kentucky, brought Darren Stray with him. Stray is a guy who's a big 6 foot 7 offensive tackle who sat this past year, is going to sit this year, but could project in 2027 as a starter on either side of the offensive line. You have a really interesting wild card in Bryce and Martinez from East Ascension, a physical freak of an athlete, the prototypical left tackle. And the great thing about Seaton is he's not a guy that's going to be expected to play immediately. So he can sit, watch, learn, grow, develop, wait his turn and then become maybe that starter on either side of the ball in 2027 or 2028 if, if he's patient. And then there's a couple of other guys that are worth watching. You know, I mentioned Jacoby Jones who was a starter at Colin, compiled by Lincoln in junior college, a multiple year starter. And then there's Solomon Thomas. Remember, Solomon Thomas was a five star signee with LSU who've been committed to Florida State. It's staff turnover, the offensive coordinator there and Alex Atkins ends up getting fired, signs on LSU as the offensive line coach. Thomas follows Atkins to Baton Rouge, ends up getting hurt last year, misses the entire season, missed spring this year while still in a boot. But this is a guy that was a five star prospect and it's been out of sight, out of mind because the injury. But Atkins is one of those guys that, I'm sorry, Solomon Thomas, one of those guys you can't completely ignore because of the huge upside potential. So the Tigers have done exactly what Lane Kiffin has talked about, which is recruit great character guys who are willing to wait, persevere through adversity, grow, develop, build culture, depth and when their time is there, hit. So we'll see if that happens this year. Now, nothing to remind you about before we wrap up today's show as we flip the calendar into July, what is really interesting is on three is doing what they call their summer signing day. Now, you can't officially sign until December, but they're looking at prospects here in July that went through official visits in June and are ready to make their commitments, many of them on July 1, July 2, the Fourth of July has become common kind of an announcement day as people celebrate the fourth, basically before a lot of these high school prospects begin their senior years of high school. And there's a couple worth keeping an eye on now. One is Davion Jones. Davion Jones is set to make his commitment on July 2nd. He's out of North Carolina. Davion Jones is a defensive back. He is a safety, 511, 175, a four star number 139 in the country. LSU, South Carolina, Clemson, Auburn, NC State are all in the mix, but this is thought to be an LSU lean. And then there's another safety in Jaden Anding from Rustin Rustin High. His brother Aiden Anding of course is on the team. He is a four star number 329 nationally with a ton of offers as well. LSU, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Miami, Kansas State. We can go on and on and on. The bottom line is when you look at that safety spot, you know in this season, Ty Benfield's there to Marcus Cooley's there. Both of those guys are very likely going to be gone after 2026. So in 2027 you've got Aiden hall, you've got Fahim Delane, you've got some young depth and really talented guys that you've recruited there that are building at that position. But you're going to have to fortify those numbers and there's an opportunity this week maybe to do so with two guys, Davion Jones and Jaden Anding. LSU very much in the mix and maybe even likely to land both of them this week if they do. And when those decisions are made, we'll talk about it right here on Locked on lsu. So you know what to do.
