Yes, welcome into this special reaction edition of Locked On Auburn. Zach Blackerby, Auburn mess report legend Kyle Rush, also known as Charlie Five. Auburn just got done, or I guess our viewing window just ended of Auburn spring practice. And I spent a lot of time watching the defensive front guys. And to me, JJ Faulk still continues to just impress me physically. It seems like he's getting quicker as the spring goes on. But JJ Faulk, I think is my, like if you had to label a winner as far as what I was able to see here on Tuesday. It does feel like the constant there, when you're talking about edges is Deshawn Womack. And I think the big battle is who's going to be that true stand up pass rusher. And you know, I've been anxious to see who, what guy would emerge. And hearing that is JJ Faulk is exciting. Yeah, the coaching's been a lot of extra time, like really focusing on JJ and Deshawn Womack, which I thought was good. And Wilkes was like right there listening in and everybody else is kind of away. It really kind of seemed like that was the, like we need you guys to get all this. Yeah. So I thought that was interesting. Chris Murray was not with the edges while we were out there. Gholish said, you know, told me on our conversation earlier this week that it wasn't going to be easy for him to come back. There was going to be steps that were in place. Like, is that what this kind of looks like? He was on the indoor. So there was a couple of guys working on the indoor and he was in there with them. So he's just like working out in there. They do a lot of running and like conditioning. So I assume that's, you know, kind of a how bad do you want to be here type thing? Like prove it to me since we didn't get that chance to have that one on one interview. And you know, he did mention Gholish that specifically skip some steps, you know, not at any fault of Chris Murray, but he's in there at least, you know, putting the work in to come back. Good to know. So he is here just wasn't practicing with the edges. So I thought that was an interesting, interesting note. Where did you spend the most time? I know you were by quarterbacks a good bed and with the O-line. Yeah. So like right off the bat, I had to go lay my eyes on Bryson Washington. That was, I did see him and obviously he's very physically impressive. He looks different than any other back in the room. I started with running backs. I think the rotation is interesting. I don't know that it necessarily means anything. But for a couple of times now you've had Cobb obviously goes one, which is no, no surprise. Sure. Omar is consistently the second guy in every single drill. That's what we said last time. Yeah. Every single practice. Alvin was actually going third in every single drill. Interesting. Okay. And then it was Tay Meadows, Bryson Washington, and Nacah Davenport. So like those guys, that was your six. And like when I say all that, I kind of laugh and I'm just thinking about what a running back room. Yeah. I mean, I'd be fine with, with any of those guys. Yeah. You could stop at four and I'm happy, but you got six and it's like, man, and I think there's an argument like every one of those guys could be a contributor at some point. Yeah. I don't know exactly how that looks. I don't need that. But what a great problem to have. I know when I was typing it out, I was literally laughing. I was like, I got to the sixth guy and I was like, geez, all these guys have like, except for Alvin, you know, and I guess Omar and they're obviously very talented. All these guys have production at the college, college level. Right. Yeah. Yeah. The previous school. So that's, that's awesome. That's awesome. Yeah. And I like how you said that because Washington does look different than every other back there. Davenport's close because they're about the same height. But like when you're just talking about, Bryson's thicker though. Yeah. Yeah. And he's a little more like Jarquez, like shorter, more compact. Yep. Very much like. But I wouldn't want to be hit by, by any of them for sure. No. No. Spent some time watching DB's and the dude I kept kind of like double checking was 28. Yeah. Which is Tootles brother. Oh, wow. You know, he reportedly had an interception on Saturday. I saw that. On Saturday. So Juko Sani and I think he was just when the safety room, just when we were talking about just when we were starting to get some answers, like no, no toodle. The older tootles. He's big. He's like six, three at least. He could walk into the linebacker room and totally fit in. Yeah. I think. But yeah, that safety room is crazy. But as far as footwork and like turning around and like, you know, opening the hips and all that, like he's the one who kept like 28, 28. And to the point where I'm like, I don't think I know who that is that I looked at the roster. I'm like, huh. All right. Do with that. What you will. But he's had, I mean, other other places reported that he's had a good spring. Yeah, that's good stuff, man. Just keeps giving you more guys to work with in that defensive back room that seems like it's just sprouting a guy that makes a play like every single practice. Yeah. Yeah. Which is, which is great. I spent some time at the offensive line and for the most part it's pretty much like we've, we've, we've been seeing other than at left tackle. You saw Wilson, Zaire get a lot of reps with the first team. So I thought that was really interesting. He looks really good. Zach and I watched the offensive line at different times. My, my starting five that I saw where left tackle was Killian Zaire left guard was Derek Blass steady dudes there every time. Yeah, clearly. Cold best. And then right guard, they were flipping and flopping. But when I saw it was cold skinner, which that's two practices now. I've seen him there. And then right tackles. Joe Simmons, another guy that I think, which I think that is your starting O line. Like if I had to guess right now, you're starting O line for Baylor, except obviously you switch out left tackle. Exactly. Yeah. With Stan Romile when he comes back, but I think that's your group. Yeah, for sure. Um, at least that's the favorite right now. Yeah. We saw different things with cold skinner, apparently, because I went later in the viewing window. He was wearing an orange jersey. So I don't know if we changed it or, or what, or maybe I miss saw, but I don't think I did. Um, regardless, like cold skinner and, and then strand were like removed from the group. And one of the notes I put in the barn was like, how much skinner wants to be out there? Cause he's like 10 feet behind the unit that's doing indie stuff. And he's like doing his own drills with them to that particular point. There's one point in time on the first team offensive line that Cole subbed out and Jack layer subbed in. And when Jack would finish a rep, he immediately would turn and look at Cole and Cole would be giving him some type of tip or talk, talk, coaching him essentially. And it's kind of along the same lines to dude, like when you talk about culture and I mean, it's a position battle. I think right guards up for grabs. Yeah. And, and he's, I think skinner is the favor right now, but it's certainly not solidified. But coaching the guys that could be, you know, competition. I just think that's really cool. Yeah. All right. At the end of our window, we got to see some battles. We saw it. We got an extra period that we haven't gotten yet and they did a wide receiver versus DB tackling drill full contact. All right. So we'll go into that in just a second right here unlocked on Auburn today show brought to you by our friends at five hour energy. And so they essentially had a bag in the middle that they put the football on and the receiver would grab the football and then they would just try to run through the defensive back. Yeah. It's probably what five yards, four yards. Maybe less. I mean, it was close. And but they were, I mean, it was physical and the guy and I've seen like get personal coaching from goalish. I feel like the most has been Duke Smith. It feels like because he's so physical, we're talking like running over defensive backs and stepping over their face when you get done. Like he is so physical. And it's like, man, if you can put it together and get him the ball in space, he's going to win battles. And that's what this drill was all about. Kishan Singleton also did just plow the through guys. One on one. I take him against anybody. Yeah. Now the drill definitely favors the receiver. Oh, for sure. Right. It definitely favors the receiver. But still, man, like just seeing, I mean, I think everything about this receiving route, it's so different. Even like the period before where they were throwing, you know, the quarterbacks were throwing it to him against air. Like the way they run routes is so much more aggressive. There's so much more effort into every single turn and step. It's just, it looks totally different than it has. I can't remember an Auburn practice where I've seen receivers run routes like that. Yeah. Absolutely. You're talking about that particular drill. So they do a deep ball drill before they break from that period. It's like each quarterback gets like five or six deep balls to the goal line in a row. Boy. Byron was money. Money. Money in the bank. Everyone is literally dropping on or like right around the goal line, just in stride. Perfect. I thought Reese Brush threw a really pretty deep ball too. He's got a good arm. He looks really good. Yeah. I missed Tia Lachlan struggled a little bit at sail. It was sailing on. He was the first before he did. He did, but I was in a conversation and missed Tia's, but Virams is the second in order. Yes. The quarterback stuff I saw Tia went before Hewlett as well. So that wasn't the case at the beginning of spring. Is that important or interesting? I don't know, but we all kind of assumed Tia would win that job. Maybe that's starting to happen towards the beginning of practice that we were able to see Gholish went over to the defensive line. And he kind of was like, I mean, Vontrell is already like screaming at these guys on how to hit the bag or whatever. Then Gholish is just kind of like behind him clapping like, and every time they're about to hit the bag, he's like, be violent, be violent. Yeah, I just can't get enough of it. Every drill I go to, I look up and Gholish is there. Like he beats me there. Like he beats me to where I'm going like every single time. Like he's talking about him and you got to, you really kind of got to be there to understand how the field lays out. Like defensive line is as far away from where the wide receivers work as you can possibly work. It's essentially like two football fields away. Yeah. And then so you see him over there and then I feel like at the same time I'm seeing him coaching Duke Smith up who dropped, you know, dropping a pass. And then, you know, you go over to those full contact drills that we're talking about and he's, he's pumping and jumping up and down. He loves it, dude. He's everywhere. He loves it so, so much. Every detail of football out Gholish loves. I'm trying to think if there's anything else that stood out. No, I don't think I have anything. You good? I think I'm good. I didn't see much defense. I kind of gave that to you today. So I wanted to, I had to go see lay eyes on rice and washing. I've been saying that all week. Right. Right. Yeah. Defensive backs. They didn't really do a whole lot of stuff. Like a lot of it was like where you stand and like certain, like they did, they did some like, I'm guessing it was like defending the RPO. Like one of the coaches was acting like they were handing the ball off and they were like telling them what to do in certain situations. So I'm assuming it was that, which I think unless you play DB, like you can't really fully break down what you're seeing there. So great. Cool. Please like the video. Please subscribe.
