Gabby and Juls analyze Manchester City's 2-0 victory over Chelsea and its implications for the Premier League title race, while also covering Arsenal's shock home loss to Bournemouth, Barcelona's dominant derby win, and discussing tactical decisions across Europe's top leagues.
Insights
- Manchester City's second-half tactical adjustment—moving Akanji higher up the pitch—proved decisive, demonstrating how positional tweaks can unlock attacking potential against defensive setups
- Chelsea's conservative approach at home against City backfired; playing not to lose rather than to win limited their ability to respond after City's opening goal
- Arsenal's injury crisis (Odegaard, Saka, Timber out) combined with poor tactical execution against Bournemouth's high press exposed fundamental vulnerabilities in their title challenge
- Manager decision-making under pressure reveals character: Enzo Fernández suspension self-inflicted, Rossinius post-match comments comparing himself to Guardiola suggest desperation rather than confidence
- Squad construction failures at Chelsea—limited bench options and underdeveloped young players—constrain tactical flexibility when primary plans fail

I'm Gabby Jules Blue Skies over West London not so much at the football club that's down the road from here. That's that would be Chelsea and nobody talking about their defeat to Manchester City but so much else going on of course is Arsenal losing at home to Bournemouth. I Liga. I know. Because your rules apply right now I'm point seven games to go. Yes it's a number of points more than the remaining games but so I thought you they do have a game in hand and there's also a special caveat carve out for the Premier League. Sorry I thought you meant in the league. I dig in the league. Oh yeah. No this is very much on the title. Barcelona on the other hand extend me. Sorry. Inter wild stuff against Como coming back from two goals down against us. Fabricus aside by Munich break records. That's nothing new. But let's get into it because Manchester City take the pitch knowing that Arsenal draw points the day before. Yeah. I think we saw a first half where I think there were a total of two shots on target from both teams not much in the way of XG Chelsea deciding to play on the counter without into Fernando so they've gone with sort of with the four forwards if you like called Palmer plus the two wingers. I then in the second half city just turn it on. Yeah I mean for me the big difference was Ryan Shekhi's positioning in the second half what Guardiola changed at halftime. You need Shekhi to be far more closer to Holland not closer to Dona Roma like he was a lot in the first half. I mean you know not really but you see what I mean he was too close to his defenders too close to Rodri and Bernardo Silva and not enough in the final third which he was in the second half and they scored two goals in six minutes and the game was over. I'm not sure I really understood Chelsea's tactics in a game that they had to win. Didn't look to me like they were playing to win more not to lose. What would you have done differently. I mean I was in terms of personal I think this team you could argue maybe to Estevão or you know putting net on the right and ganache on the left. I think there's not much difference. Personally more in the intentions play higher up the pitch go and press City instead of waiting for them in your own half like they did for most of that first half. 33% possession. Yeah which is says it all. But then again Chelsea City had nothing so you know where Rossinius at halftime well our plan is working. I just don't think it was the right plan because City turned it up and then you had no answers to come back after the first goal. I think again hindsight is 20-20 but remember after the Arsenal game when like we disagreed between you said Chelsea did nothing this was in the league cup. Yeah it's in the final yeah it's in the final for me. A little bit like that like oh let's Palmer might do something Estevão might be three guys Don Aruma might throw in their own net. Yeah or he might not. And I think the problem with playing that way when you don't have in so you have a knock on effect in the sense personnel wise and I'm not a hot dog I would have played Tsar figure something out. You look at the bench the only guys you can bring on are D'Elap and Garnacho to give you something different. And frankly like neither has been good this year. Both are completely raw. So I don't want to give Rossini your way out. He might have lost this game no matter what. But it does limit you when you go out and you play like that especially I think at home. Yeah it looks like you're not trying even and again they they sense a really bad vibe. Yeah it does and your four points behind Liverpool in that six place we've said so many times you need Champions League football next season to be a disaster for the for the club financially I think for Rossini as to for the season for players who might say hang on I need to leave because I want to play in the Champions League which is completely normal if you're Palmer if you're Enzo if you're Caecido you can't really be in a European again you know. From city's perspective the inevitable question is has the momentum shifted. Now you're tempted to say yes it has because city now control their destiny. But I want to remind everybody Arsenal control their destiny too. And Pep said this if it's a draw next week and obviously that's going to be I mean a circle on everybody's calendar that that huge game next weekend. I think Pep has to be kind of very aware of his messaging because on the one hand you can talk about how his teams often finish the season late. On the other hand what was interesting about this game and I think it's a positive so I might say is a negative. I think Holland was certainly hit one chance. Yeah I know I had only a couple a couple of touches in the opposition box in the game when they had a lot of the ball. Rodry I thought we're turning our fair struggled a little bit as well. But others stepped up big time obviously Ryan Scherke as someone to us Nunez was not just a cross but was very effective. And so city can beat you in more in different ways. Yeah yeah I think Scherke was again the star man that second half the cross for the first goal. But more importantly I think the ball for Gehi the way he passes that ball is just there's not many players in the world that can find that pass. I know it just makes me so sad that Ryan Scherke didn't choose Italy because we'd be at the World Cup now. Absolutely. If he had opted to play for us. Are Joe's let's stick to the Scherke factor here because I think what we're seeing is the level of impact that we saw when they were in their palm from you know when De Bruyne was hot when even before that when David Silva was hot kind of these situations or even Foden in his tremendous season. And it felt to me like in the summer when they made when Pep made the changes he made bringing in him and Reinders and whatnot. And then obviously he brought in Marmous six months earlier. It felt like he wasn't necessarily sure about kind of which of these players how this team was going to develop. And as you know I've said it all year like they've been looking at identity they tried different person I mean also had injuries too but they tried different person combinations. And I think this is it. I mean gay Semenio gives you maybe he didn't shine but he worked so hard and was such a presence and he gives you that level of impact. I think he takes pressure off of off of Holland too as well when when you have those crosses to the far post. He's found his balance. The question is why so long for for Scherke to be at the center of it. It was just a question of Scherke adapting to the Premier League maybe him still wanting to have think Foden could do that role or Foden or somebody like that. Yeah I think I think that he would have many more points if Scherke had been you know been starting every single game. I think he only started 25 of the 45 games this season something like that in all competitions and the games that I really never understood why he was on the bench West Ham away Robert Riddle away those kind of games and the draw points in both games. Yeah lost and drew so I think it's also dangerous lineup in a way or certainly for for Bepp Guardiola and the way he sees football to have doku and Semenio and Scherke there especially with two attacking fullbacks. Yeah well no one in Nunes one Roryle is not really attacking in that sense he covers a lot of the ground but he's not really playing that way Nunes for sure but more that Silva and Rodri behind that will have to then be at their best certainly fitness wise to be able to balance everything and cope which is not easy. I wouldn't be surprised if Pep changes something and one of doku and Semenio is maybe not there against Arsenal to go to something you'd be more under control kind of thing. Would you so I mean the reason I brought it up is attacking fullbacks certainly relative to when you know he would put Virgil at left back and Walker at right back you know sort of in the last iteration of City you basically had four center backs right across the back four which allowed allowed you to defend higher further up the pitch and maybe take more chances that's what I meant I mean he's not going to be marauding and he's obviously a big guy but he's not a center back he's never even mistaken for a center back he was he's an attacking midfielder playing left back the other ones in midfielder playing right back yeah and you could even if Ryan I know he were to play he's probably a winger more attacking than Ryan so you think sorry if I'm reading you correctly you think that he's not a hundred percent that he can get away with this kind of lineup because it puts more pressure on Rodri Bernardo Silva who are obviously older as well. Exactly against a team like Arsenal like like against Ramadri for example but that's a different it was a different time because of the momentum that they have because of the momentum that Arsenal don't have then he might play this lineup and it might be very efficient and they might win that game and and and that's absolutely fine it's just that I yeah I I do wonder if if for example in a game like that you play Dooku and Themenio with Harlan no problem but maybe Shaky comes off the bench and I know he sounds maybe harsh because he's been so good lately. Are you going to be hating on the French number 10? No no no I love him I'm just trying to say tactically to the people watching and listening that you know in a game like that if you add somebody in midfield like a Reinders for example that can control that midfield a bit more than Ryan because Ryan is still Ryan Shaky he will do things that is not scripted it will do things that is not planned not prepared which sometimes can be frustrating for Guardiola sure but sometimes obviously makes the difference because he's such a such a genius Guardiola said something really interesting yesterday after the game he said the first half to forget for CT and and for Shaky the second half much better if Shaky can play 95 minutes or 90 minutes like the second half which is very difficult obviously then he becomes a unique player right now he's an extraordinary talent a genius but he's still not a unique player that can play at that kind of level for the whole game and that's the difficulty here and that's why maybe earlier on in the season he didn't have that guaranteed starting position really in the team and then slowly is getting there his 10 assist already for him in his first Premier League season is incredible and why you think he may not have that against Arsenal yeah I think the interesting thing I mean we're gonna talk more about that as the game approaches because you know it looks like the season might hinge on this yeah it's the league final yeah exactly um I wonder this is actually a guy that we haven't mentioned because he's been injured all year is Kovačić this would have been I think a game for Kovačić in his prime the thing about Reinders is Reinders will be making those late runs into the box and stuff and yeah it's almost like you'd want a different profile player even to Kovač even to Reinders although obviously doing that Reinders more effective than Shurki also because yeah in the first half he's trying to defend against yeah in the first half when Shurki was playing further back further closer to Don Aruma than Holland as you put it metaphorically I thought they got caught in transition I mean they had a lot of the ball but like when they lost it they got caught in transition a lot of times and it just puts pressure on on Rodri and Bernardo Silva I don't think Rodri had a great game by any stretch um but man yeah no they look really good and I never word on on Doku as well as you know he's long been one of my favorite players um one of the things he tried earlier in this year was basically off the ball just leave Doku up you leave Doku up because in so doing you take the opposing right back and probably one of the two center backs out of the game because you always have that threat that there's an out ball and he runs at you um and that has put some people to criticize him his defensive output um when things go wrong for city because it's you know always how it goes did you see it that way I I I personally think of the two wingers the one I'm gonna ask to track back regularly and help out is gonna be Semenyo and it's never gonna be Doku yeah I mean Chelsea was so poor I thought in a lot of the things they did with the ball they didn't have you know too much to to defend on Estevão and and Gusto in the first half and even after that after the changes but that's not Doku's main game I mean even Semenyo he's a pressing machine but in terms of tracking back and everything he can do it still an attacker so this is also something that I think will come into Guardiola's consideration for that awesome game and if they've been for example in the Champions League now against Bayern Munich I don't think we would have seen that team against Bayern Munich I'm not sure this team can play against Bayern Munich anyway really to go back to our head to head strength versus strength back and forth no this 11 no this 11 I don't think can play against Bayern this Bayern team really with all the rotations and all the kind of effort you have to make because I'm not sure Doku and Semenyo are those guys together at the same time on the pitch from the start yeah but but Doku's pressing on Kaisido for the third goal is great that they can do it's obviously different to do it over 90 minutes if you've got a very attacking fullback which again that's why I was also disappointed by Chelsea because you didn't even try to exploit some of maybe the flaws in this city team out of possession all right okay on the row senior front let's talk a little bit about what went wrong and kind of what what the long-term impact here because it's not I think it is really serious we saw individual errors for well probably for all three goals but certainly two of the three in a big way um Andre Santos and yet picking up O'Reilly who rolls inside I know it's not a set piece right so obviously you don't want those matchups but he should have certainly done better you can still put it off just because the guy's bigger and stronger than you you know he can hit a ball yeah yeah it's a bad mistake more generally and I've said this a billion times like Moises Kaisido has to put on his Superman cape for a two-man midfield like that to work I mean you said it too right and the two men and Andre Santos is supposed to be a defensive energy specialist right Kaisido was ordinary in this game by his standards and obviously gave the ball away for the third goal that midfield gave me nothing if I'm Chelsea and and and on the body man on the ball yeah you know off the ball they're saying so deep that you know whatever they're just extra their extra bodies they're the little short traffic cones but then if you're a real senior if I'm a senior say well well too little scab what do you want me to do what you want me to play lavia so that he can get injured and come off Kaisido and Andre Santos can play you just didn't want them to play Andre Santos job in the first half was just to cover that right hand side Rossinius said a half time him and Gusto and Estevão against Dooku Riley and and you know Shaiky or one of the midfielders coming that side and they did a decent job to be fair in that first half but they can also play and again if it was a game where you know Chelsea had a bit of a free hit and a draw would have been okay and you would have tried to get a draw and even that at home I don't think this is Chelsea football club I don't think at home this is the way you should set up a bit like what Liverpool did in Paris in that Champions League first leg that we we also criticized I just I didn't understand it and again it was a game that Chelsea had to try and win because they needed points badly so if you try to win it and you lose it it's okay you lose a city where good in that second half they're better than you they've got more depth than you look at the players that sent on in that second half when you can bring on those kind of players and as you mentioned the bench of Chelsea was obviously nowhere near as good as the bench of City but at least you tried at least you tried something and this takes me to something else and you know I'm not a huge Enzo guy and I understand the need for that I do not see it was a joke how what he said was that bad that you need to go and you need to cut off your nose just by your face and you have to make Rossinius sit there and say well we're all aligned in this right no no that's if we show that it's not Rossinius call as well exactly he did the Astrasbourg with Omega and that was his call not the web score when the fans turned on Omega no when they suspended Omega right well it was that for what he said in the in the media in mixed zones in the press speaking of Omega or anybody else I go back to the squad construct I don't want to pick on these people but you know what there's five of you recruiting players at Chelsea plus some help from Biddad you guys have broad shoulders you guys need to share the responsibility here you cannot be in this situation where your only options so Enzo self-inflicted fine other than that what I'm going to bring in Garnac what what difference are we going to bring in Garnaccio to what to run into space Garnaccio who hasn't developed an Iota in the last three he's the same guy he was when he was 18 right he's not young anymore he has to change the project then because the project right now is to buy those young players so buy no G10s and develop them yeah true and that's the part that they're that that part of the project which isn't which isn't working but yeah but find the right manager to develop him I think Mariska to some extent has developed more than Rossinius has he certainly has but but but players develop when there is a coherent team and there's a coherent game plan because if I bring in Garnaccio and I ask him to do things you know Garnaccio will develop in a certain way um the team still has to work as a football club yeah um Chucking a stavow in as good as he is bro the guy's still 18 years old he was out for a while he comes in he starts two games in a row I wasn't surprised that he struggled no no no in a game like this the lap again I don't want to bring him Nico Jackson again and whatever I know people in Germany make fun of him and whatever but really this is another guy who has not progressed one iota this season you know he's gone backwards yeah I that whole piece I mean the only if I ask you who got better who's gotten better at Chelsea you know Chalaba who they didn't like and they took him back yeah I think Gusto too Kukureya as well uh well sorry sorry Kukureya got a lot worse and then he got a lot better yeah yeah we're talking about recently but of the young players yeah no yeah yeah but I don't know I I look at this and Jules you touch upon this the impact here is they made record losses yeah they they pay this big fine to to UEFA um but they're on a settlement plan they have to hit certain targets every year and there's only so many mazes they can't sell the women's team not that UEFA would recognize it no they what are you going to do now you players it's inevitable if they finish six and the four points behind Liverpool so it's not it's not they can still come back and Liverpool can also draw points and things like that but they play united Aston for Bridge next weekend and if they don't win this one and again please don't put Chelsea United in Arsenal Man City on the same day I know at least you have one Saturday one Sunday but still and you also have the Liverpool Derby on the Sunday so you've got those three games the same weekend you think what but um don't don't set up to lose that game against united at least try to win it because you will need to win it badly um but I as much as I love Rossini and as we said all the time his dad and the family all of that as good as good as a young coach he is because I really think he's a good young coach that might become a great manager but right now he's not obviously at that level lately he's been out of his depth the decisions that he's made the choices the in-game management the the everything the lineups the tactical plans all of that hasn't worked out and the red flag for me gab is after the game on Sunday he said well I need time you know even club and guard your love hard time okay this is for me but for me this is over he knows he's under massive pressure he knows the extension and him of all people comparing himself to Guadola and Pep and how much any time this is this is a no go yeah um to quote will smith uh or paraphrase and get those names out of your mouth I think he definitely six he's not there next season which I think in some ways though I mean you keep saying what a wonderful coach he is he's a wonderful coach who hasn't had the opportunity coach right until now because they were playing they were playing twice a week so you mean guys in the training yeah yeah yeah that means he had a lot of time to prepare for yesterday he did have a lot more time to prepare for yesterday um I'm glad he said something like that because you know what his public persona his public pronouncements and I am stealing this line from a newsletter uh that I read is that he talks like an AI that has been trained on LinkedIn posts or that's how he's talked until now yeah this time compare himself to club and Guadola stupidest thing and it is a stupid thing to say um at least it sounds more genuine you know at least it sounds more heartfelt at least it sounds less 12 step he also shows that you're you know and doesn't really believe it she just wants to make the point everybody needs time I haven't had time to work with my players because I'm doing one training session sure sure but then you know all the other stuff you're you've got objectives to hit and targets to hit if you don't time or no time you're out you just see football club he's you know I get that but then there's all the other stuff that he could say and he wouldn't say about the team being poorly assorted about the injuries about all this other stuff um but certainly it doesn't it's not going to make him happy when players say oh probably a mistake to sac mariska like yeah but they all believe that gabby in the dressing room that's the problem as well you know it's not just about time you know who believes it too I haven't asked them and he would probably deny it if I did I'm I bet you rocenia believes it too I bet you rocenia says I'm ambitious I wanted to be the Chelsea manager one day I did not want to have to come in like this in January yeah maybe not just in January but in January in these conditions and they can still have they have the effort curve they might still win the effort curve and that might save him by the way any season but yeah right now they're not on the right path you see might save him at a club where they make decisions based supposedly based on um if it was a club we do it based on trophies and silverware and whatever oh look we won the FA cup yeah that might be the case at Chelsea where supposedly they're all about analytics and turning players into assets and this model if they're rational that won't save them no we'll save them his actual progress with the FA cup so they're still championing next season if the analytics nerds come out and say look we've made progress look garnacho's not worth 80 million um you know if it's stuff like that then yes if not I think it's gonna be really tough all right enough city how about some quick hits let's go Arsenal fall at home to Bournemouth 2-1 Jules obvious question is what's going wrong too many things that's the problem right now I think mentally physically in terms of injuries in terms of our data struggling to find sometimes the solutions within the game because I think and I said yesterday on the show for me the the worst team that Arsenal could have played in this weekend was team that was like Bournemouth apart from city obviously because they had the best pressing team in the league even better than city they clearly saw that what city did in the car book up final at the league up final and did a similar thing with our screen of four to prevent Arsenal from playing and when David Ryan has more passes than any of your attacking players you don't have any creativity and you're missing the likes of Odegaard and Saka and Timber then you struggle and if on top of that you make mistakes like Arsenal are doing at the moment then you've got nothing for you and they got beaten and they deserve to be beaten it was really poor performance again and it starts to get really worrying so I think in terms of chances they had chances yeah but they could have won this game or at least not lost it yeah yeah not lost but it would have just papered over cracks because a fundamental thing and like you have to make a choice it's what what got them to the top of the Premier League table playing this way which is not a very sort of football league that's a word type way yeah means you can't just turn it on when you need to because you're playing them and I mean in some ways at left back Lewis Skelly would have been the right choice last season yeah this season because he never plays yeah he's thrown in there yeah Ben White at the right would Timber have done a better job probably but you know there's no Timber would Odegaard have done a better job yeah and I want to think about Kai Havertz he's gonna get his critics and he did not have a good game but when he plays and what sometimes he's at center forward sometimes he's a number 10 I mean come on you know you're treating him like like like like he's like the fourth striker no I know the issue I have with that and again we talked before about learning from your mistakes and learning for what went wrong before Kai Havertz played that position in the Likap Final and that was not working why are you doing it again in this game when you know exactly what Bournemouth are going to play the way they're going to play how they're going to hit you and then you play Kai again in that position which is clearly not working maybe needs a bit more time but he looked lost in this game on Saturday and I just don't think that was the right thing to do I would just play him up alternate him and Giocares up front and do something different right Barcelona destroyed his Spaniard 4-1 in the derby gap they're not nine points clear at the top they are and everything kind of broke Flick's way this weekend except for Gerard Martins knock it looked like he's going to be back but the thing about even if Gerard Martins injured and obviously Kubarzi suspended Midway he doesn't make a difference as long as you have a live body back there because your high line is going to face the same threats also this is Gerard Martins we're talking about right when we're not hanging on Carlos Puyol here Ferran Torres I think getting those two goals is a big confidence boost yeah and I think they're they're in good shape for the for your let it go game and yeah they really believe I mean Lamin was incredible again he's 100th La Liga game already at 18 it's just ridiculous that's just hope he's not being overused and in fact as we mentioned now nine points clear because Ramadre we're held at home by Girona on Friday night I bet all that I bet all I needed this like he needed a hole in the head yeah you're right he tried something in midfield with Camarvilla Belenga because Tremini would be suspended for the second leg in Munich on on Wednesday night and I don't think they were that bad but it was clearly against something missing in this game I thought it was a penalty on Mbappe I know the elbow is an accident but 1000% I don't understand how it's not given because of the vast conspiracy against a small club like Ramadre I don't know I think because people make mistakes but yeah it wouldn't change the fact that they were bad they were bad absolutely and you wouldn't change the fact that they can still lose La Liga in the classical so yeah I don't I think he's got other things to worry about than talk about that penalty as bad as it was yeah yeah yeah yeah no I agree best still yeah another poor performance uh you know against teams like Girona and you you just can't get your game going Milan also gets boot off the pitch gap they lost Fennel at home to Udinese yeah brilliant idea to change your system to a back four uh now which look at this stage of the season this is not the reason that they lost what is amazing with Milan is there is so much narrative I don't know what hold a legey has over people um but it's like they lose three no oh it's rafael La Liga's fault because he was bad gee who decided to uh play him and through the middle in that in in that position right um who decided to switch to the back four yeah you know hey I mean Pavlovich is the top goal scorer since the turn of year I mean yeah none of this is a legey's fault right he didn't know european football you can work with everybody a week you make players better really have you made polisicion now better right or have you just been riding montages coattails yeah uh I I really fear for next season what might come up because this feels like a real house of cards here yeah and they have to be careful they might not make champes at eight absolutely jewels we're not done because we have more quick yes by earn beat up senpai five nil on the road by his b team really uh but still they set a new single season goals record jewels yeah 105 goals in the league we told you last last on last month they showed they hit 100 in 28 games 20 league games so that's now 105 in 29 the record before that they set back in 71 72 or 72 73 was 101 so that was the legendary by and team exactly that won three champs in a row three european cups in a row and all of that um yeah it's amazing five different gold scorers you write the likes of nico jackson started for example uh and uh the company gave a rest prior to the rama druid second leg obviously in midweek to a lot of key players so it was just too easy for them once again yeah and all east asian center back carrying yeah although it don't came yeah although it took our injured and came off uh in the second half but still it was a very good performance which we expected to be just they're averaging 3.6 goals per game i don't know how well this looks on the buddhist league by the way inter come from two goals down to defeat komo 4 3 away and extend the lead at the top of seria gab this was one of the best games of the weekend very enjoyable i it really was i komo komo gets so much attention if you roll fabric ass all these sort of spanishy type south american type pretty passing players yeah um but in the first half they didn't just pass the ball effectively and en route to a two-nil lead with pico pats going a phenomenal yeah accuracy i know um they limited inter to zero shots until until just after they score you who what happened to go about a straight up the pitch crosses for your boy marcus terram yeah that was their first shot on goal yeah and big mistake defensively again but still second half starts and you're wondering okay how are komo going to approach this um again into the second shot on goal of any kind yeah marcus terram again defense and it's due to i know and then he's the cherry on re celebration with cherry in the stands in the crowds obviously um and then you thought because komo i think still really had the upper hand and then two set pieces yeah my man double d denzel dumfries back from his injury reminding us that he is the king of wingbacks sorry ashef when you score four goals with an expected goals of 0.88 yeah i think it shows and komo the third goal is a penalty dakunia but had many more chances and it's a big cruel it's it's cruel but i think you know the cliche about experience yeah absolutely but you could tell watching the game anyway that you know those mistakes where mistakes made by the lack of experience but as but it would have been so easy for into to just fall away get things are granted so i think just i think kivu deserves a lot of credit here no baron d'or lao taura as well yeah he's gonna gotta underscore that yeah arnaz lock it starts to young sir rio angamo and brings back most salla jewels they both score uh liverpool win two nil against sulam and they move one stop closer to the top five finish yeah they need that they needed that win badly really after what happened against phd a few days before and to prepare for the second leg where they're hoping to do another remontada it was not perfect against the phd team that still had a bit to play for but you know not really that much we always see phd on the beach yeah yeah barrio angamo was the start of the game scott of great gold individually for me has to start on tuesday night it has to in a game that liverpool will have to to win and put phd under pressure i know he's young i know that means you have to get rid of one of that's mackalista or graven birch ossobozli obviously uh but do it because whether you start salla on the right maybe but for me rio has to start on the left oh interesting so like but and you would you're you're open to starting salla i think he will start him i would not start him personally but i think he will start him you have to go for it really and even if that means you lose you end up losing i don't know two one but if you score first and it's one you love to you in that stadium anything can happen i really believe that so uh you have to put sobsli right back right just so he can be on the pitch if you're going to make room for gomua in that way well or or you keep frimpong are right back like he played in this game against fullam because really to go for it to maybe try to disturb that momentum from a phd point of view of new nomendesk varus kelia forc varus kelia to defend more than in the tags by having frimpong really high up the pitch so then salla can play there and move him a bit closer to a ketike i think there's a lot of things that slaw can do has to do and there's big course to make for example in this game would you play sobozlai a bit deeper for example in vs as a 10 of sobozlai as a 10 and then you get rid of it and he's on the bench and you play mcalliston gravenberg who invested in dropping your record signing in a game like this so somebody will have to be left on the bench one of the bigger names but by the way arnaud slaw another one who likes saying everybody's aligned at this club it's like the new word that the pr people have put in people's mouths gab anfield felt a bit different too in that game against fullam as many supporters protested against the announcement of increased price tickets yeah we talked about this before it's three percent for the first season and then it's inflation after that it's always tricky to raise prices at anfield if you're going to protest this is the most effective way to do it right they they put the banners away they only showed one banner at a certain point everybody applauded no ticket prices i think they're going to rethink this it's not a it's it's not a uh to paraphrase somebody else it's not a lakko situation liverpool always chicken out is a three percent increase plus inflation it's such a small proportion of your overall revenue you don't want to piss these people off liverpool stands for something they have a certain ethos although i thought your friend billy hogan had a really nice letter to try to justify or justify or explain it to the fans he's a really nice guy no he is but you know your season ticket we stay at six hundred pound a season that's it's liverpool that's not you know that's not much i think there's a lot of things that could also i know the fans are not happy and i understand the three percent is not that much either as a as an increase yeah i spoke to somebody else who's kind of in that space at a smaller club and he says you know what like if i were liverpool i'd increase the ticket prices 25 take on the hate and then a year from now they'll all forget about it i don't think he's right i don't think liverpool fans would forget no but three percent is you know not that much our boy don't matter that's that'd be may says debut on the spurs bench away to sunderland i thought he wasn't particularly lucky this is deflected gold but you're gonna go i will i will let you do the unluckiness and i will go for the disappointment i had watching this game and maybe i'm a bit harsh because he's only been there 10 days but i saw nothing from him no impact i thought the lineup made no sense whatsoever to have ruchalis on solankey colomani together in that front three when you have tel and simon's on the bench i didn't understand it i don't know where he was trying to do but to have three number nine's playing two of them as white players made no sense whatsoever and by the way they had zero impact on the game that midfield i don't think worked either particularly really um and if you didn't know he was robert to the zerbie on the bench and we would be watching the game together with though okay this is another ego to do weird lineup really and that's and i know you said 10 days is short time i was doing a show on french friend yesterday with samuel umptiti who said like jews you'll be harsh 10 days is not that much sure tomas to hold out two days to prepare for his first game for chelsea against warves and you saw instantly the impact that he had in terms of intensity the change of shape of the team the zerbie could have done something similar and instead for me he did nothing different yeah i feel like they had intensity for about 15 minutes but sunderland were physical sunderland equally intense sunderland played with a lot of freedom i want to address though where look in the end they were beaten by deflector chalk in the end i think but they had other chances if if kolomwani doesn't decide to dive on that incident i think they call a penalty alderay takes the ball first to me every day there's no pen the pen comes from the fight alderay hits the ball i think kolomwani thought to dive early and whatever shame on him um but brian brahby i mean honestly like you you you belong in a straight jacket like what he did on with the remaro push obviously should have been sent off but that's also really dirty right i said the second yellow on remaro yeah um i need him before that on poro you go you throw somebody to the ground what big man when you go pick on so why don't you go do that to mickey van de veen and then we'll see who's laughing brian brahby i'm not even a spurs friend but that that really wound me up jules seren bogey school is the only girl as you went to swin away at the lanter gab they're back and forth they are uh look it's it's good to learn for it it's not good to jeremy bogey has to play center forward when you've got all these other center forwards uh onwards and upwards but um it just tells you how far you've still have to do what you have to do to come back hubert andre you like that yeah lovely you like my little tribute to our favorite scottman yes his long-range striker gives bayeleve kuzan a huge one-nil win away to brussia dotmond jules they're still in the champions they can't and i'm happy i like kaspershulman we said i don't think he was uh considering the start that they had with ten high etc i like the throw shade on ten high i know i know but i will have a um still team that has issues obviously for sure he's still a team very much in transition with a lot of youngsters great but that was a that was a big win for them to go to dorman and win like that dorman have nothing to play they can't cut bayen nobody else will catch them they will finish in second place dorman seemed to remember they were in a football match at the end yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah when they woke up finally a coming called mix up after 30 seconds limits napoli to draw a way up by my gap only i can only imagine how angry konte must be right now right so you you're telling everybody guys this is it we got to put pressure on each other they're gonna fold like a cheap house of cards they're playing komo in a couple hours komo are gonna do them trust me um look the brine is back yeah zambongu is back loboka is back uh this is the this is the team i never had you know soli's ready to go they go after super tacky and then what happens zion susuki yeah japan's number one of course la the congle kick up the pitch the idiot dron jesus runs into the back of bonjour bonjour no's not very good he runs into the back of him puts him off the the parma the parma striker go yeah uh heads the ball on and gabriel sterffetza nice first name goes and scores and beats vanjamin kovic savage and then all of a sudden you're chasing and they huff and they puff parma i think had two more shots in time yeah three only mcdomany pulls one back comes close nice overhead kick for another one and they can't get it done and and that's that's it that's got to be heartbreak and again i don't know it's gonna make a joke about konte pulling his hair out but that would be fine because he just replaced it but um yeah it's a shame it would have been nice from a neutral perspective yeah that's right yeah definitely magis united kick off in a few hours time against leeds as we record this on a monday morning but jules michael carrick says copy manu is close to signing an extension should he be the one is this making me something slightly worried that he's the one making these decisions i don't think that's him making the decision he's just announcing it he was asked a question and he said in his press conference that that was the case right so we assume this is jason wilcox deciding that cobby manu should get why is jason wilcox making these decisions when he doesn't know who next year's who the manager next season's gonna be because he's an asset to the football club he's been very good since the turn of the year since carrick arrived and and like he may not be under new manager would have ruben amareem come now but then no but then in that case you know i think you protect also the value of your player the asset that is i don't like this word for place but that's where it is uh and and you're hoping that whoever comes next whether it's carrick or somebody else they they they want manu as a key part of that team i i was joking i i agree about protecting the asset um which sadly is how clubs think of players these days what i would say though is you know they thought they were protecting the asset you know they have history here in the past with luke scha with with phil jones and so on yeah but that's manu we're talking about he's a much better player than those two i probably in a different role he also has different limitations so um as well i i like i said if you i don't think we have details on the extension right in terms of of money or or likes you have to be sure you did it in such a way that you're not tied into something long and unpleasant like you were with with with some of these other guys um because if i'm manu what incentive do i have i said i don't know who the manager is going to be next year what incentive do i have to put to pen to paper unless you give me a really sweet deal right so it'll be interesting i think i think the numbers are going to decide whether this deal at this time was the right deal to make i think we're doing make 10 changes and lose a wet severe 2 1 gap simone wants everybody rested and ready for the champions league second leg yeah there might actually be 11 changes because muso of course played but there's a decent chance that y'all know black could be back um look i think i'm a dude obviously i don't think he didn't care obviously simone didn't care he played i think four kids from the cantera and whatever was always ideas and whatnot the guys out there put in the effort but i thought severe who are fighting for their lives incidentally um i thought they did really well manager as well um and uh yeah i i don't i don't think you read too much into it other than maybe your b team isn't as good or as effective when they all get thrown together as you thought it was nothing on forest and as than villa shared the spoils in a one-one draw at the city ground jewels a classic case of a point that helped both teams i'm not sure though because i think villa should have won this game what kins has this huge i mean roger's and what kins in that second half should have scored and and villa should have won that game really forest i don't think we're very good it's a poor good poor goal to to concede as well from a villa point of view without martinez got injured in during the warm-up of the game um and i think that's a missed opportunity because i think the three points were there for the taking they didn't it's just one point so it's still better than what chelsea did for example so in that sense yes there's seven points clear yeah you're gonna point so it should be okay yeah it should be okay but you could have been nine points clear and that would be definitely over for the title race so i think they would be a bit disappointed you won't be low speaking on june 4 sorry gabby the very wise mr marinakis is going to do something nice this week when they play in the europe league they are i didn't know this story um or i'd forgotten the story actually but they had a striker named tony woodcock when they won the european cup for the for the first time and i'm not make that that is really his name i'm not making it up um and apparently as the story goes he was kind of out of contract wanted to leave spoke to um cologne uh this greatly displeased uh brian clef who was the legendary iconic figure in english book blah blah blah and who i personally not sure i get what all the fuss was about but they love him in this country and he said right that's it then you're not getting um european cup uh winners medal uh which you know that season i think he played in four games scored a couple goals and by the way it's not like four games out of 17 no whatever it was like four games out of nine i thought it was purely vindictive because back then there was no free agency at the end of your contract you still didn't negotiate a fee and whatever um just crazy stories about it how like the cologne like president and director football came over and nobody at four like clef forbade everybody at forest from even talking to them and i i just reminded what a different era anyway yeah this guy deserves he was part of the team yeah he should not he deserves his medal and mr marinakis in his wisdom took them a long time though to get it back to him wow you know mr marinakis it does it things on his mind marinakis you know but uh yeah well the people before him clearly the uh owners before mr marinakis not as enlightened as mr marinakis he's doing the right thing because of course he's a wonderful and good person and uh he'll he'll receive his medal which i think he definitely earned um yeah 46 years later yeah exactly uh olympic leonay speaking of marinakis adjacent types uh beat lorian 2-0 to move into fifth place jules even with john texter gone the weirdness continues at this club yeah they win 13 games in a row i get texts from my portuguese and see palo fonseca's really good exactly and then they fail to win nine in a row until the lorian game this weekend yeah uh and that was a better performance they had to win because they obviously have this massive massive uh battle to finish in the championship position just behind rand as well yeah behind phd and lance them and monaco and marseille and ren and lile so there will be some disappointment in where those teams finished so they had to win because they played the latest they played on sunday night uh and and rick was on the bench after palo fonseca said in midweek how disappointed he was of the performances lately of the young brazilian and that worked because he came on a halftime was very good in the second half uh created the first goal for yarem shouk and then leon finally won again and they've been so streaky and in a way i'm glad for palo fonseca that the little trick on andrick worked so let's see how they fare now uh next weekend unless we want to friday in italy gabby has roma b pizza three in it to stay in the champions league hunt three goals by donald malin by the way one in ten goals since coming over in january gab there's also fireworks between claudio ragnieri and giampiero gasperini yeah so gasperini is obviously the coach uh claudio ragnieri is sort of like the special advisor to the the freekens okay i have written a biography claudio ragnieri but i don't think i'm giving away any secrets here that he is not a fan of gasperini yeah um and you know he came out and he he said something like well gasperini was on board sorry gasperini was aligned with uh all the signings we made in january some of which like malin actually did really really well yeah um because gasperini of course being grumpy and weird and was complaining and muttering things and stuff because roma had a really really rough patch um so then the story emerges there's sort of confirmation of a story that'd been out there for a long time gasperini was not roma's first choice as manager nor was he the second choice nor was he the third choice i'm going to tell you who the first three choices were you probably already know because the story's been out their top choice was sesk fabrigas so i think we both agree would have been a better option absolutely their second choice was unai emory but they couldn't get him out of villa um that was and some people even alleged that was some kind of because you know monchi's really unpopular with roma there might have been some kind of monchi messing with him just before he left third choice would have been inesto valverde which would feel sort of left field to me i don't understand that one on the verge of retirement and only then do they turn turn to gasperini and people went back and they look at some of the comments that he made and like they point out that well we needed a coach sometimes you need a coach who's angry all the time so it would be a shame if this destabilizes the team because i think they've had a lot of bad luck with injuries i think they've played some good football gasperini sometimes he often does play good football um on the other hand i can see i'm going to stick up for for claudio ranieri because he's had to take on board so much so much bile so much random from certain pieces so many like little cracks and whatever he's not even the one making his decisions but he's the only one who puts his face out there to to go in and fire back and i'm glad he did personally yeah and i said make it 14 consecutive wins in a row which is a saudi pro league record apparently as they beat al-akdud 2-0 jules i cannot imagine for the life of me imagine who might have scored the opening goal which also happened to be the 968 of his career for club and country and i also want to ask you about al-halal who they could end the season undefeated without winning the title they must have an italian manager that's right they must have and they do actually christianou another goal uh george jesus on the bench doing really well for al-nasay who have yet are yet to win the title and since christiano arrived which obviously a lot of people have pointed out this could be the year and it would be i think hard to take for al-halal if they were not to win the title despite being unbeaten but in the key games whether it had to get a win they could not get a win and that's probably why al-nasay will win the title and not al-halal for simoni zagi titleless again i'm sorry gab i know you know golf guy and i'm not sure why this question is in there but anyway but the masters you know guisdale just finished on Sunday it is a big deal and there was a tie golfer with a football connection that's right i thought this was a fantastic story no no uh look apparently there was a an at he's an amateur who qualified because he won something called the asia pacific amateur championships um and i was struck by his name his name not just me his name was fifa lau pakhti yeah and look we're not just talking about it like uh funny like he has a tie name that sounds like fifa no no no he was asked about his name like fifa yeah yeah f ifa uh reportedly uh he said my dad is a huge soccer fan and he was choosing between fifa from fifa world cup and uefa from uefa champions league and that's how he ended up with his name yeah okay i don't know where to begin if you love football that much yeah call him zinedine or paulo or you know or christiano or rionel i don't know yeah don't call him the ego that puts too much pressure on him but yes there's so many things call him runy for goodness sakes but why would you choose to call him fifa or there's probably the only fifa in the world right as in like names i would imagine i mean there may be some sort of bootlickers in uh in zurek who've you know after naming their first son johnny their second son infantino they were probably named their third one fifa but um yeah but we agree fifa's a better choice than uefa right yeah just in terms of name just phonetically not saying one organization's better than the other right absolutely okay marce bounce back on consecutive defeats to beat metz 3-1 on friday night joules there's life in them yet yes the still life uh it's good for happy bay who is the pressure a little bit but we said that race for third and fourth place is massive between all those clubs very exciting too um they were our lawns in it we we consider them out of it yeah yeah lancen piaget we they're they're they're they're fine yeah so then after that is lili's renis marce monaco and leon obviously so that would be very exciting to watch uh and they had to win this game at the velodrome against metz um not great performance metz he's the woodwork twice and marce just revealed just revealed a new logo which the fans don't like and when the fans in marce don't like something whether it's a logo a manager a player you're on for a bad bad right so let's see whether i lose them but the logo doesn't even look it's just a more stylized version it's not even that it looks like a car logo that's why they're saying yeah so that's why they're not happy i don't think it changes the last one was the old one was very good so i'm not sure why they changed him ufa i've entered into exclusive talks with nike to become the official champions league ball supplier gap alidas and their ball with the stars on it i've had the gig for more than 25 years are you going to miss them so normally i could care less about this you're more about yeah we've got loads of champions league football um i don't know if you're ufa you can say okay nike you guys supply the ball but make sure the stars are on there right yeah you think so you would you would think so right but then you're the guy nike's like oh crap i gotta design this ball but they have to put the stars in there so i can't look like the adidas ball but it can't be different from the adidas ball either like um i don't know i'm just finding way i mean the logo of the champions league has the stars you know around anyways right but you don't incorporate that in but you don't necessarily need to have the the logo of the organization plastered on the ball right often they do like you know the prom on the prom league but you've got the prom league logo that's usually what they do so maybe do the stars been a different way than adidas did i don't know i wonder if they get the gig i wonder what kind of creative is gonna is gonna earn their bacon by coming up with something i'm gonna guarantee you something else football fans are so conservative not like chain no matter what they come up with like the marseille fans on the logo they're gonna say this sucks yeah and players are gonna use the new ball as an excuse just like in a few months time players are gonna talk about the new world cup ball and say oh no the ball bounces differently it flies differently right because that's how we roll in football our colleague paul tenorio reports that Cincinnati FC are pursuing name ah jewels i don't know where to begin on this one no i agree with you gabby i i mean yeah you you would get certainly more exposure you know people his name is in Cincinnati massive media market no but you know i mean at least it'd be more than what they have now cracking night lights from Cincinnati yeah that's more name our side near the beach oh from Cincinnati's perspective yeah um so yeah i mean i don't know if they've seen him play lately for example if they know that he's playing injured and uh i would never fit again maybe you're happy to take that risk and bring him on with all the money that you're gonna spend on it i don't know i mean i'm not even sure if this would be good for him less again it's a big name i get that but it's a player that is the shadow of the star that he was before it's weird because i mean maybe they're like hey you missed 100 of the shots you don't take certainly publicity wise for Cincinnati yeah exactly Cincinnati is not uh the type of city or the type of club that we talk about ever yeah exactly um i'm maybe name us people are happy to let this be out because sure we'll talk to you because maybe then we'll start getting phone calls from other people i don't know or Santos themselves including but it seems odd um but by the way the city of Cincinnati they're famous for a particular food item you know what that is no chili something called skyline chili i believe it's okay amazing and uh maybe that might attract him exactly marie louise etas made history in the buddhist they got got yeah she's been appointed to be coach of union berlin which makes her uh the first woman in charge of uh men's professional league uh top flight team in uh in the big five leagues now look there's always going to be a trailblazer i wouldn't read too much into this i think for example simply because it's five games filled in the season and then she's going to go manage the women's team so i'm not saying it's a publicity stop but when you're in berlin obviously feel like you don't have much to play for and i want to do better now and then you know go back to women's team um more significant for example is what we saw in france with claremont corindia acqua yeah but she spent three full seasons there yeah 14 to 17 in the second division i think there's a woman we're talking our fair at ingolstadt as well yeah the trailblazer and all this and this genuinely shocked me was 1999 the first woman to coach a men's professional team was carolina and vinter bez in the italian third division and i was genuinely shocked that sort of 15 years passed between that anchor in diacra before anybody else went in that direction i thought diac was going to be the the starting point really and i was disappointed that after that 17 almost 10 years later it's only now that you've got another similar kind of appointment than diac was with clemo what's she doing now she's the marseille women's team head coach she she took over the france national team the women's national team and then now she's building this project in marseille who have a new kind of uh woman's team woman's side woman's project um but yeah even her she never had another chance to coach the men's yeah and i'm also guessing if you last three years at claire mall and then she was good to finish you're not getting relegated eight eleven or something yeah exactly yeah but anyway jules it's that time it's the champion second legs quarter finals how about that yeah so we're gonna come back on thursday do this all over again until then love the game love your neighbor love yourself
