We just got done with practice. The practice window ended just minutes ago. And I got to tell you, it's so tough to like break away from not watching Von Trell, King Williams coached the defensive line. Alex Gholish came over and got more involved a little bit than what we've seen in previous windows. That guy talking about Gholish loves defensive linemen. I think he loves the violence behind the position. I think he loves the size and the power behind the position and also just the importance. Like, right, that's how you win football games. Have a good defensive line. But that was an early takeaway for me. It's just kind of seeing Gholish maybe get a little bit more involved with the line today. And he calls out a lot of the defensive linemen early when they talk about guys that stand out like he really seems locked in at that position, that position room in general. One thing is funny. Back to your Von Trell point. It's it's fun to watch like other riders and football coaches and that come to view practice. There's always the biggest crowd around him running his drills. Yeah, so animated. It's so animated. You never know what he's going to say and he's going to rip somebody and he's going to. You can hear him all the way across the field. It is a lot of fun. You get to where you're like, holy cow, there's more things to go see. I can't just spend the whole time right here. Right. And then I walked over to linebacker and like I really like watch Dirk and coach this this offseason. And it's like, gosh, I got to leave him to him because he's similar. Right. Very similar. So as far as, you know, the intensity linebackers worked a lot on, OK, when to engage in in contact or when to to drop back in coverage, which was nice. And then also kind of looks like a check down drill. If a tight end or a running back, catches something in in the flat, you know, which angle you need to take in certain situations. So that was nice. But like both of them, I mean, just looking at this defense of staff, which I mean, I think those are two of the certainly the leaders, obviously, defensive coordinator being part of that with Durkin. But so detailed, so intense, high energy. I can understand why you'd want to play for those guys. Oh, without a doubt. I mean, they're there. You have to play it for those two positions in particular. You have to play at a level of intensity that's above. I feel like most others, because it's so physical and so like what better way to get that way? Coleman Hustlers very similar. Correct. So so like those three, you got linebackers, interior defensive linemen and pass rushers, and those dudes all have like epic high levels of intensity. Yeah. When out there saw the first team defense, I think Gavin Jenkins, like he might legitimately start at this point. I mean, he's the first corner out there opposite Andre Jordan, Jr. I mean, it's been weeks now at this point. So we've seen a couple of times now where they line up 11 on 11. And both times Gavin Jenkins is the guy opposite Andre Jordan. And that could be the short like that could be the bigger story of the biggest. I don't want to I don't know if you want to call it an upset. That could be one of the bigger story lines. I think it's an upset. Yeah, I think it's an upset. I mean, especially with, you know, the story in a good way. Yeah, for sure. For sure. And he's younger, right? Like he's got eligibility. You know, and he also followed goalish. So like, is there less temptation for him to enter the portal if he were to be an SEC starter? Like, I think it's a good, I think it's a great, I think it's a great situation for Auburn if Gavin Jenkins is good enough to be cornerback too. Oh, 100%. 100%. Like you mentioned, the loyalty piece, everything that goes along with it, giving him that shot in the SEC. Like if he's the guy, you're right. The loyalty piece is big. Yep. Other starting notes we saw. We saw Jared Smith and Deshaun Womack, both on the, like those are the two edge pieces. St. Ferrier was at one of the defensive tackle spots. I think Cody Sigler was at the other. Interesting. Um, I don't think Dallas Walker went through that drill because I saw him like two seconds later when they got done. I'm like, I don't think he would have been over here in time. So I'm not positive. Dallas Walker went through that drill or not. But St. Ferrier, a name that we haven't said much of, but you're going to need him. And he could be one of those guys that like maybe fans, like the casual fan doesn't recognize, but yeah, plays a lot. Similar to what we saw with Bobby Jamison Travis, like Bobby J. Hardee, even last year. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, you need guys like that. And St. Ferrier has the Framme. He's, you know, 300 plus. Like he's a, he's a big body down there. Um, and then just one other note on the defense before we kind of pivot to some of the stuff that you saw on offense. Uh, kept hearing when I was watching the DBs, kept hearing over and over again. Good rep Wayne. Good rep Wayne over and over again. Talk about Wayne Henry. Yeah. A name that I loved his tape coming out of high school. Brian Smith, when he came on the show, he and I would agree, like maybe the most underrated to recruit an Auburn's class. Uh, cause I think it was just a three star and he definitely plays better than that. So I thought that was kind of good. So give Wayne Henry some flowers. It's funny you said that because I think someone asked, uh, in one of the episodes that we did in the live chat, Hey, what, what are we hearing on Wayne Henry? Yeah, not much, but heard some stuff today. So good rep Wayne. We're what rep Wayne. Was he at any particular position or was this just like, so all I saw with DBs was they went in tandems back to back to back. And he was one of the tandems towards the end. I've seen him lined up at nickel when they've gone on the 11. Who did he line up with? Do you have the barn pulled up? Yeah. I got the tandems in there. So he was with champ Anthony. Champ practicing maybe a development because usually he doesn't go through those, hasn't gone through those up until. Yeah. And if you remember after the first practice, they made him available to us. And he was kind of asked about a timeline. He's like, I don't know, whenever they tell me. I'm not sure. That may be, that may be breaking because I don't think he's gone through any of those type practices yet. It's mostly stretch. And then I'm doing all my work on the, on the end. Yeah. Now I'm doubted. He's number one, right? Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. I don't think I've seen him out yet. So if he was out there, that's good. Yeah. He was wearing number one. So because I wrote it down in my notes as numbers. So anything else on defense that I wrote down? Oh, Michael's, Michael Matthews Canty number 51. While I was watching the linebacker room, which I haven't watched a bunch of, I actually wrote down in my notes, who is 51 because he's got long hair. So I couldn't read, I couldn't read his last name. And I'm like, who is that? And so I was excited to get back to the computer, pull up the roster. Big athletic moves super well. You know, we've talked about how loaded that room is and you really only play two at a time in this system. So like, I don't really know what the path to playing time looks like, but can't have too many. No, totally. So worth noting for sure. All right. We'll pivot to what Kyle saw on offense had a lot of notes as far as the receivers go. That's next right here on the special quick live edition of locked on Auburn today show brought to you by our friends at Fandle. Fandle is America's number one sports book. Just mentioned that you heard it here on locked on Auburn helps to show out a ton. All right, Kyle, as far as what you saw on the offense, you spent a lot of time with receivers, offensive line, pretty much the same slight adjustment. Where do you want to start? The one I'll do offensive line because it's really quick. It was pretty much all chalk, like the same guys that you see. Wilson's Iyer injured his ankle. It was not anything serious. I think last Thursday they held him out of the scrimmage. So I expected him to be like not dressed out. He was actually dressed out and he, he wasn't going through the drills fully. He kind of had his own coach working with him on the side. So I think that's significant to know that it's not anything super serious because they take, they take the injuries pretty serious. Like Caleb Harris was not dressed out. Like he just had his practice jersey on. So that, that's good news right off the bat. I spent a ton of time watching the wider receivers. I haven't really done that that much this year so far. So one of the things they were doing is they were really working on breaking down for a comeback routes. And, and one thing I caught Cody saying really, really like pounding was to stay inside your framework because that's how you slip. In other words, keeping your feet underneath you. He was really like, that's like such an insignificant detail. I feel like kind of like what you talked about the last time you watched them making guys go over again, like really working on those little things. Did he talk about like leverage with that too? Like where the corner is you, you respond accordingly. We didn't get that. That could have been what they did when they came into a huddle after, after that particular drill, but yeah. So they would go stick, come back, stick, and then they would run like a very quick, sharp out route and Eric, not Eric, Kishan Singleton. I do it all the time. Me too. And I did it for the longest time, but last two weeks I started. For some reason I'm sorry. Yeah, I heard you do it now. I'm doing it. It's contagious. Kishan Singleton as big as he is, has a really unique ability to cut 90 degrees without having to like pat down, jab step or anything. So the way he does everything is so smooth. It is the route, the catch, the release. It's just that is an experienced wide receiver, man. Kishan Singleton, he does it full speed too. So it's like you're running full speed and he can go 90 degrees with almost no misstep. And I think a lot of the folks that, that come out to see him during a day, I think are going to be shocked at how big he is. Yes. Yeah. I mean, he's so big. He's at least 215 pounds. Like he is, he is very well. He's what you want out wide. That's for sure. Put together. So when they go, when they go to quarterbacks and wide receivers and they line up like essentially what would be like your, your four wide receiver set. And it's actually three wide receivers in the tight end. It's always every single time. It's always Jeremiah Kogars, your left wide receiver. Jake Johnson's, your tight end on the left. Jazz Nimrod is your slot receiver on the right. And Eric Singleton, I'm sorry, Kishan Singleton is your receiver on the right side. Yeah. Jazz was out there. Jazz was out there. Yes. That's good. Cause he wasn't held out of the scrimmage, but he was held out of a couple of practices apparently for, you know, some minor, minor things. Yeah. I got his name mixed up with Christian Neptune. Christian Neptune's the one who had a minor procedure. He's got it full time. On his shoulder. Yeah. All right. So I want to get clarification on this. Haven't quite yet. I don't know how interchangeable the outside left wide receiver and the outside white wide receiver is. Now, what I mean by that is not like personnel. It's will Kishan ever line up on the left side and will Koger ever line up on the right side? Because if that's the case and they stay on the same side of the field, Brian Williams Jr. is the number two behind Kishan Singleton, which I think is awesome. But that's the like. He's become my guy, I think. I think he's I think I love. I think you do. But I noted that just for you. Thank you. And it makes me number 15 for folks going to it. It's it makes sense too, because a tempo, if you're staying on the same side of the field, those guys and then you let your slot guys kind of be interchangeable and you can go trips on one side, trips on the other. And then those outside guys kind of stay the same. Again, I don't know if that's the case, but if it is, Brian Williams Jr. is your backup on the right side, like almost every single time. Pettigrew is your backup on the left side. So there was that. Dishon Spencer had a really pretty one hand to catch in kind of had a ball thrown behind him a little bit. I didn't see who threw it, but and it was like, I just reach up and grab it like a just nothing like I'm grabbing a cup off the top shelf. Like it was it was nothing. Well, I've always said if you need somebody to get a cup off the top shelf, it would be Dishon Spencer, Sean Spencer's that guy. And this is the last note I had and I found this interesting. So they were Bryce Cain dropped a pass and it was like a short kind of comeback route. No big deal. It goes over and does push ups. But what I thought was interesting and I think I'm right on this. I got to all have to again, I'm kind of guessing based off of the because I can't hear. Right. But it looked like Byron ran over to the wide receiver huddle to talk to him and asked him essentially where you want that pass because it was probably like right in his face on a comeback route and and it got on him, got on him quick and he's like, do you want it? You want it a little bit lower? Like it was like, hey, almost like he was saying that's my bad. Hmm. I thought that was really leadership. Right. I thought that was really cool to take. Leave your drill, come over to the wide receiver and then be like, hey, where do I need to put that ball kind of thing? I thought that was cool. Cool. That's great. That's great. Um, Kale Ellis was the backup center. I know there's been talk about like, do we ever see him at guard? I'm leaning towards, I'm starting to lean more and more towards no on that. And then we saw, um, strand who's still wearing the non-contact jersey at backup right tackle, which mentally I've kind of thought he was more of a guard. So I thought that was worth noting as well. He did play a little bit of tackle at Oregon state. Um, I think steel, man, there's just so many guys you're trying to find your best. Yeah. Best rotations you can find first, first team, second team, all that stuff. Yeah. And once again, just to kind of, because I'm thinking about Derek Plas and the offensive line, like the way we talk about Derek Plas, like Gavin Jenkins is in the same situation at corner. That's a great comparison. And so if we're talking about Derek Plas like winning that job, I think we need to talk about Gavin Jenkins at that point. I think it needs to be the story. Yeah. It's crazy. Uh, how can people check out everything you've got going on new ventures you're on, all that stuff. Absolutely. You can sign up for our message board at thebarnauburn.com.
