  • Adversity in childhood (poverty, loss of family members) can be transformed into motivation through curiosity and self-education rather than victimhood
  • Moral leadership and doing the right thing, even when difficult, creates lasting legacy and historical impact beyond personal achievement
  • Faith and prayer serve as anchors during discouragement, enabling leaders to maintain vision and courage through crisis

It's such a pleasure to be with you again, Legacy Leaders. We miss you so much, our royal friends. It's a little princess named Destiny here. And today's episode might make you laugh. Maybe cry a little. But mostly it's gonna make you feel like you can do anything. And I'm your co-host and history king in training, Daniel. So let's talk about something real for a second. Have you ever had a bad grade, lost a game, or even felt like quitting? Yep, I felt that sometimes. And I think our guests felt that too. And guess what? So did today's hero. He lost over and over again. He got made fun of, he failed. We call it valuable learning lessons. He learned those lessons more than some people do in a lifetime. But he didn't give up. And because of that, he became one of the most loved presidents in the history of the United States. Did you guess who it is? Abraham Lincoln. When the world says you can't, God might be whispering you were born to. Okay, let's go way back. That's your cue, Destiny. Okay, picture this. It's 1809. You wake up in a tiny log cabin in the woods of Kentucky. You got one pair of shoes, your house is made of logs, and school? That's a sometimes thing, not an everyday thing. That was young Abraham Lincoln. He didn't grow up rich, he didn't grow up famous. He grew up curious, kind, and determined. That's right, Destiny. Sadly, his mom went to be with the Lord when he was just nine years old. And later, his baby sister passed too. Lincoln felt like giving up. That's so sad. It really is, but guess what? Instead of being a victim or letting it get to him, he turned to books. He would walk miles just to borrow a book. No library cards, no Amazon delivery, just pure determination. He read the Bible, he read science, and he started giving speeches, like hilarious ones. He would make people laugh and think at the same time. Wow, what a commo Daniel. Let's be honest, he had a tall hat and tall idea. By the time he was in his 20s, he was working odd jobs and running for office. But he was losing over and over and over again. Lincoln lost eight elections in his life, and once his business failed so badly, he ended up in debt for years. That basically means you have no money and owe people lots of money. But God had a plan. In 1860, Abraham Lincoln became the 16th President of the United States. What? Who? You can say that again Daniel. What? Who? And what happened during his presidency? Only one of the hardest times in American history. Oh no, the Civil War was going to screw us. But Lincoln, he led with courage. He believed that all people were created equal. Because that's what the Bible says. And in 1863, he signed something called the Emancipation Proclamation. That's a mouthful, isn't it, Destiny? Yeah, man-to-person, a proclamation. That's a mouthful. You're right. Daniel, so what does that mean? I know. Do you want me to tell you? Yes, please. It was a law that helped free enslaved people across the country. He didn't do it to be light. He did it because it was white. And when he was tired, discouraged, or even afraid, he prayed. He asked God for wisdom. He led with his heart. Today he's remembered not just as a president, but as a freedom fighter, a forgiver, a legacy builder. Oh, and one more powerful thing, friends. Before Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, he told his staff, Listen carefully, guys. If God gives us victory in this next battle, I'll keep my promise to set people free. That's good, Daniel. It is, Destiny. And one day, one, he kept his promise. He didn't just make history. He made heaven smile, friends. So what can we learn from Abraham Lincoln, friends? You don't have to be born into greatness. You don't have to be perfect. But you do have to keep going. You don't always lead by winning. You lead by doing the right thing, even when it's hard. He failed. Um, long lessons, Daniel. Yes, yes, learn lessons. Again and again and again. But God still used him to change history. Yes, friends. Maybe God wants to use you, too. I got some exciting news, friends. Are you thinking what I'm thinking, Destiny? Legacy Lightning Fun Facts Round. Okay, guys. Here's the big question of the day. What number president was Abraham Lincoln? A, 10th president? B, 16th president? C, 21st president? Or could it be D? 100 president. Okay. Hurry. Check your answers in the show notes. And while you're there, tell us your favorite part of today's episode. Don't forget to leave your parents Instagram handle so you can be chose as the very next Legacy Leader of the Month. Okay, here's our tactical legacy challenge of the week. Okay, step one. Write down one thing that didn't go your way recently. Now, step two. Ask yourself, what can I run from it? And step three. Try again. Speak my favorite. And play for bonus. And today, we have a bonus challenge, friends. Write your own emancipation declaration. A paper will you say what fear or excuse you're letting go of so you can grow in courage. Need an example? Maybe your declaration says, I'm letting go of being afraid to speak up in my class. Or I'm letting go of the lie that I'm not good at math. Or even I'm letting go of the fear of trying something new because I was born to lead. Now come up with your own. Hang it where you can see it, friend. Speak it out loud every morning. Freedom isn't just about the world changing. It's about you choosing to be brave. Abraham Lincoln didn't quit when it got hard. He rose up. We shouldn't quit when it gets hard. Remember that. We need to rise up. Yes, we do. We really, really do. So next time you feel like you're failing. At home. Learning lessons?
