Summary

Host KTown interviews John Olson, author of paranormal story collections, about his fourth book 'Stranger US' featuring firsthand accounts of unexplained phenomena including time slips, UFO sightings, hauntings, and a mysterious dog that reappeared five years after disappearing. Olson discusses his methodology for collecting and verifying paranormal stories from across the United States, emphasizing the importance of interviewing witnesses directly to assess their sincerity.

Insights
  • First-person verification is critical in paranormal documentation—direct interviews allow collectors to assess witness sincerity through vocal cues and emotional authenticity rather than relying on secondhand accounts
  • Paranormal hotspots show geographic clustering patterns; multiple independent witnesses in specific regions (e.g., Wellsville Mountains, Wind River range) report similar phenomena without prior knowledge of each other's experiences
  • Professional witnesses (police, paramedics, doctors) provide credible paranormal accounts but often request anonymity due to career concerns, creating a hidden pool of corroborating evidence
  • Time-slip phenomena vary in manifestation—some involve missing hours with memory gaps, others involve instantaneous spatial displacement with no time passage, suggesting multiple causative mechanisms
  • Landlord disclosure of paranormal activity remains legally inconsistent across states, creating ethical gaps where renters are unknowingly exposed to documented hauntings
Trends
Growing public interest in paranormal documentation through self-publishing and direct author-audience engagement via websites and social mediaEmergence of geographic paranormal mapping through crowdsourced witness accounts revealing localized hotspots for UFO, cryptid, and ghost activityIncreased willingness of professionals (law enforcement, medical personnel) to share paranormal experiences privately, suggesting normalization of paranormal belief in institutional settingsTime-slip and dimensional-shift narratives gaining traction as explanatory frameworks for disappearances and unexplained spatial anomaliesState-level variation in paranormal disclosure requirements creating legal arbitrage opportunities and consumer protection gaps in rental markets

Hi there, I'm KTown and on this edition of Mysterious Radio. When I was around eight years old, seven, eight years old, I started noticing that there was a lot of things that were going on in my house, that didn't happen in my friend's house, and my sister who's about four years older than me, and my brother that's a year younger than me. We started talking about our experiences and realizing that a lot of the things were abnormal. When we went to my parents, my mother, she was open to it and understanding, but both of my parents didn't want us to talk about it at all. Growing up in a small town, it's one of those things where you're really afraid that people are going to talk about you and think you're crazy if you say your house is haunted. And so for a long time, we had to keep it to ourselves and just talk about our experiences to each other. And my dad was adamant that our house wasn't haunted, but he was just saying that, I think, to try and calm our fears. Because I found out later on that he was having his own experiences and just not sharing them with us. As I got older and I got in high school, I would have friends over the house and many of them would have experiences in the houses as well. And they would ask me what's going on with your house and I would find I finally had to admit while my house is haunted. And so at that point, whenever we were out at party here on double dates, one of my friends would always say, hey, John's house is haunted. He needs to tell us some stories. And so I would relate some of the stories that had occurred to me, whether they were footsteps or an apparition or things moving. The ghost at times would mimic people's voices and call you into rooms where people weren't really there. And as I told these stories to my friends and to other people, I had people start coming to me with their stories. So by the time I was 17 years old, I was interviewing people and collecting their stories. And I did that on a local level for a really long time. And then about five, six years ago, I wrote my first book. And when that went wider, I got more people contacting me through my website. And I just started collecting stories that I mean, the area just kept getting wider and wider. And finally, this last book, I was able to gather stories from all over the United States and and share them in stranger US. That's cool. Very cool. So people contact you via your website still today. I mean, that's how you normally get your story. OK, do you ever go out on any of these locations and kind of try to get a feel what these people experienced at all? Yeah, I do, especially if it's a local area. I love to go out and see it for myself and help give me an idea of what's going on and what happened. And if it's, you know, further out somewhere, you know, across the country where I can't go, I like to do all the research I can online and find out exactly what I can. And it's just really exciting to do all of that. I do definitely love to be able to go to a place if I can and pick up the vibe and and understand what's going on. Oh, for sure. I want to talk about some of the people that are submitting their stories. So are you getting any stories from like any like maybe professionals like cops or like hospital personnel? Anything anything like that with anybody with a professional background? I have collected stories like that. I haven't been able. I'm trying to think if I've written one from a professional yet into my books, I still have a stack of stories that I go through and when I'm doing a book and trying to decide, you know, what new ones, what old ones need to go in. But I do have some, but none that I've actually written of yet because it's interesting listening to police officers and, you know, paramedics and even doctors who have had experiences with the other side because they're because they're professionals and they're trained to observe. It's really great to get their stories and get their understanding of it. A lot of times they're a lot more wanting to keep their name secret or, you know, not let their name out just because of the situation they're in, but they're definitely out there. Yeah. Yeah, you're right. Okay. So let's talk about some of the stories you have here. So how did you go about like, what do you look for as far as a story is concerned as to whether or not you're going to included in the book? Well, I have certain parameters. I have to be able to interview the person themselves. So it's got to be first person in order to go in and as for writing the stories and choosing which ones are going to go in the book. I have to get a sense when I interview the people that obviously that they're telling me the truth. And it's very rare that I get a feeling from somebody that they're that they're not telling the truth. But even some that seem really outlandish and out there, when I interview them, I can feel their sincerity. I, you know, I can feel the fear in their voice. Okay. So they're submitting it to you online or through your website. And then you're actually having a conversation with them over the phone. Yeah, that's part of it. They contact me through there and then I will contact them and then do either a phone call or a Skype call so I can ask them questions and I can get the details and I can get the feeling from them that what they're talking about really happened and and their feelings when it's going on to them really comes across that way. There you go. All right. Okay. So let's talk about a story you have in here, man. The one that caught my eye, they all look really good. But what's the time traveling dog about? So this one was really interesting. I was contacted by Josie after she heard one of my interviews and is that her real name? She actually changed her name on this one just because she's a little, little afraid of what people might think for about her. But she contacted me and it was funny because she's like, now it's not a ghost story and it's not, you know, cryptid or anything. It's it's really strange though. And so she piqued my interest definitely right from the get go. She explained to me that she grew up in a rural part of Idaho in the early 80s and she grew up in a home and they they weren't very well off. They were, you know, in a rural area, didn't have a lot of money. And for her 10th birthday, what she really wanted was a dog and she had asked and asked for this dog and she wasn't even sure she would get a dog for sure. But on her 10th birthday in, I believe it was the end of May, her parents brought her or gave her a dog. She came home from school and it was a collie Labrador mix and it was a really smart dog. And she named it Sammy because it seemed on the front of the chest, it had a black mark that looked like an ass. So she named the dog Sammy. She said through the summertime, she read all she could about training dogs and train the dog and taught it tricks, you know, shake, you know, lay down all of these things. And she just absolutely loved this dog fell in love with this dog. Around August, about the time they were going to go back to school, her family had this ritual where they would go up in the mountains and gather wood, cut wood for the winter because they didn't have a lot of money and they need to supplement the heat with a wood burning stove, which a lot of people did in the area. And so her whole family went and she took Sammy with her. She had saved up her money to buy a really nice collar for Sammy and and it had Sammy on the dog tags in the front. And she was playing with Sammy and helping work and, you know, just keeping Sammy near her all day. And around two o'clock, while she was helping load the wood, she noticed that Sammy had disappeared. So she stops and she looks everywhere and calls Sammy and calls Sammy and then she's in tears and gets her whole family looking for Sammy. And they look all afternoon and can't find the dog anywhere. And they had to leave when it got dark and she's bawling and she even convinced her dad to go back up the next day on Sunday to look. And they looked all day and couldn't find anything. And her dad had to explain to her that in the mountains there are there are predators and something must have got Sammy in and she was devastated. Well, you know, her parents offered to get her another dog. She didn't want another dog. And so, you know, she just went on heartbroken. Well, five years later, she's 15 years old. And up to this point, she's been able to get out of going to get wood with the family because of Sammy and she just doesn't want to go back up there. But her dad finally says, you know, it's been long enough. You got to go with us. So it was just her, her dad and her brother that went up on this Saturday to get wood. And as they pull up, she noticed they were going to the exact same spot where Sammy had disappeared. And her dad explained that this was where the best wood was right now. The dead fall was the best here and they'd be able to load up easy. And so she gets out of the car and her brother and dad go start cutting down trees and she's kind of kicking around the the truck and looking around. And she said she looked up the road and she could see this dog coming down the road. And she looked and it started on a dead run to her and it gets to her and she's like that dog looks just like Sammy used to. And when the dog gets to her, she realizes this is Sammy. She's like something hits her and she's like, it is Sammy, you know, and she gets down and looks and it's got the same collar. It's brand new collar with Sammy on it. And she's just at first, she's just in tears and scoops up the dog and she has it, you know, asked it to do his tricks and it does his tricks. And her dad comes around the truck because he's been yelling for her and she hasn't heard him. And he's like, what are you doing? And she's like, well, look, Sammy's back and her dad's like that can't be Sammy. That was five years ago. And she's like, well, look, you know, look at the collar. Look, she does the tricks and everything. And her dad, you know, I can't believe it. Her brother can't believe it. But she's convinced it's the same dog and even has the S on the chest. And so she just holds Sammy the rest of the day. She wouldn't do any work, wouldn't let the dog go, she said. And they get home and she goes to tell her mom. And her mom won't believe her either, even with everything. She's like, it can't be Sammy. That was five years ago. And the next day or that first part of the next week, her mom, you know, takes her and Sammy and she says, we're going to go to see the vet and just see, you know, what's what he thinks of the dog. And her mom's like, don't you dare tell the vet what happened? Just I just want him to check out the dog. And so they go to the vet and the dog checks him over and he says, well, you've got a healthy dog. It's only about four months old, but it shouldn't get much bigger. It's probably at really close to its full height. That's smart. The dog is four months old. Yeah, the dog is old according to the vet. And so on the way home, she's like, see, I told you, you know, it's Sammy and her mom just took her head and wouldn't believe it. And she said she had Sammy for another 13 years and Sammy died of old age. And and she says, it's impossible for you to wrap your head around. But she said it happened. It really happened to me. So it's crazy. I interview a lot of people about strange things that go on in the wilderness. And it just makes you wonder what in the heck happened? Where where did that dog go? What where was it? Was it a glitch in the matrix? Was it some sort of time portal? What you know, what happened with all that? But it was strange. But it's kind of one of my favorite ones because it has a happy ending to it kind of so. That's very, very cool, man. Yeah, there are some strange things happen. You know, you just can't discount it. I mean, she took the dog to the vet. The vet said it's four months old. I mean, it still had the same collar on it. It's still doing the same tricks. Wow. Yeah, that's a great one, dude. We walked around the truck and and just reappeared. And, you know, five years later, it's really strange. And and it's funny how many stories that I've collected and people that I've interviewed where glitches I get. I call them glitches in the matrix where something like that goes really strange and and it's something you just can't explain for sure. Yeah, that's wild. That's a great one. Really. Yeah, that's really good. OK, so and when you talk to her, she was really like adamant and she was like, I know it sounds crazy, but this is really what happened. I mean, you felt that genuineness from her. OK. Yep. And she said that throughout the years, her her parents really never did. Her dad wouldn't talk about it and her mom never really accepted it. But that she knew that it was the way it was. So it's it's interesting. So and she had not shared that with very many people at all. She said just because she was so afraid people would think she was crazy. But when you experience it, you know, what do you what do you do? So that's right. All right, that was great, man. OK, so I'm really interested in you got one right. I guess that's the very next one is the UFO and Shasta. Can you how did you get that story? So I was on a show. I was getting interviewed and talked about my books and I had somebody call me shortly thereafter or contact me. Well, no, actually, they called on the show. I apologize. And they said, do you have any UFO stories or anything about Mount Shasta? And I said, I've done a lot of research and and done some folklore about Mount Shasta, but I don't have any firsthand accounts. And Paula, this lady who contacted me afterwards, she says, you know, I listen to your show, I listen to the show, I listen to what you said. And she said, I had a really weird UFO experience on Mount Shasta. And I'm like, oh, I'd love to hear it. So I set up a time and interviewed her at the time she was younger and her parents lived in McLeod, which I guess is a small town near Mount Shasta. And she was spending Thanksgiving with them. And then she had to go back towards where she lived there in in California. And it took her right next to Mount Shasta, just right there. And so she left late that night after Thanksgiving and had her little VW bug and she headed home. There wasn't very much traffic on the road being Thanksgiving night and she headed over and she just come up and over a hill heading through the forest part that was near Mount Shasta. And she saw some lights come over the hill behind her and they were really bright and she thought, well, it's another car overtaking me. And so it just got closer and closer. And she thought, well, you know, there I got the high beams on my can hardly see. And so when it got to a straightaway part, she slowed down so that they could pass her on the right side. And at first it didn't. And she's like, just come around me, you know, because you brighten me. Then it swung into the other lane and next to her. And then at that point when she looked over, she realized it wasn't a car at all. It was a bright light about the size of her bug. And it was flying above the ground right next to her next to her car. And she looked at it for a minute and just brilliant glowing. She said it took her breath away as it went. And then so as she stopped and then it floated towards Mount Shasta and then up the side and then disappeared, took off into the air and then she just kind of sat there. She was kind of taken back by what had just happened. But she said it was really, really strange, very bright, not real big about the size of her car. And she said that was her only experience with UFOs, but it was really shocking to her to have that happen. She was all alone out there, not expecting to see anybody. And and it just kind of showed up and took interest in her and her car before taking off and leaving. Yeah, I would love to go to that area. Have you been there? I haven't, but I definitely, it's definitely on my bucket list just with all of the strange things that go on and the Native Americans in the area talk about it being an entrance to the underworld part of it. And so it's just, it's kind of an awesome place. Yeah, I wouldn't love to go there myself. That's on my bucket list too. So yeah, yeah, mine keeps getting longer and longer. I'm going to have to start knocking things off. Yeah, there you go. Me and you both, John. Okay, so have you gotten any more like, I know I'm not going to ask about the book as far as UFOs are concerned. I want to save some of it for the audience, but have you gotten any, any interesting UFO stories from any other part of the country or maybe any of other UFO hotspots in the country? So the area that I live in, there's a mountain range on the west side of the valley that I live in and it's called the Wellsville Mountains. And I have gotten a lot of UFO accounts from there from locals. It seems to be a local hotspot for UFOs. And it's interesting because there's, there's actually several places in the west. There's a part of Wyoming, which is the Wind River range, which I have a story in there about something else, but that also seems to have a lot of UFOs and between basically between where I live in Northern Utah and Yellowstone, whether it's the geographical area, whether it's got to do with so the super volcano or something that's drawn them in seems to be a hotspot of UFO activity. And what's interesting is I love to get a story that's unique, but then later on, I will interview somebody that has almost the exact same thing happen to them, but in a different area and they kind of without knowing it corroborate their stories. I interviewed a gentleman for one of my other books and he had a small triangle UFO that woke him up when he was camping and it was sucking water out of the spring, the little river that he was camping by. And I got, and then later on I interviewed a guy that had the same thing happen 20 years earlier, but in another part in Utah, he woke up the same thing was woken up to a strange sound and it was a UFO that was sucking water up from the stream that he was camping near. And that was before I had published both of them or either one of them. So there's no way they could know about each other. So it's kind of cool, especially with UFOs when, when people collaborate or corroborate their stories, it's, it's kind of cool that way. Yeah. Yeah. Here's another one, man. I thought was weird. So we, but it's good. You're getting some really good stories. Yeah. Your book here. The one that says I skipped in time. Oh, yes. The one skipped in time. So she contacted me after my last book. She was one that contacted me through my website and she had heard some of my glitches in the matrix story and her name is Anna Lease. And at the time. She was living in Missouri, just outside of Jefferson City, Missouri. And it was a regular Saturday morning. She said there was nothing strange going on. She was a year out of high school trying to do some, do some work before she went off to school and she still lived with her mother at her mother's house. She had just turned 20. She worked at a bookstore that was about 30 minutes away, about 30 minute drive from the house and she was opening that morning. So she'd gotten up and was getting ready and had gone in and talked to her mom. The mom was in the front room and so she said she went into the bathroom to just finish getting ready and she walked into the bathroom and the next thing she knows, she's in her car driving and it's a shock to her. Obviously, she's walking into the bathroom. Now she's driving her car. So she pulls over to the side of the road and she's like, how did I get here? How did I? What's going on? And she remembered when she talked to her mom, she glanced at her watch to see what time it was to make sure she had time to go finish up getting ready. And she realized that it's the exact same time. It's time that she had stepped into the bathroom. So no time according to her watch has gone by at all and she's looking around and she's realizing it's the road she usually takes. She's about 20 minutes from home. She's about 10 minutes from work and she pulls out her phone and she calls her mom and her mom answers and she's like, why are you calling me from the bathroom? And she says, didn't I just walk into the bathroom and she goes, yeah, and her mom sticks her head in the bathroom and she's not there. And she says, mom, I'm 20 minutes away in the car and she goes, no, you're not. You just walked into the bathroom. And so neither one of them could figure out what was going on. She had all her stuff with her and like that she would have taken to work. But somehow it wasn't just that she had somehow missed that 20 minutes or so. It was that she had jumped further in time and time hadn't changed. And so she did end up going to work and opening up, but it really bugged her for, you know, for a long time still to the day. She says it really bugs me what happened and her and her mom had talked about it for a long time and trying to figure out and she could never have come up with this situation, but she had heard about, you know, different things happening like that. And then she heard me talking about glitches in the matrix and she thought, well, that's kind of what I experienced something that a jump in time that doesn't make any sense whatsoever. And so I got to talk to her and she felt relief when I interviewed her and talked to her because she realizes that it's not just her that it happened to things like that happened to other people and it's it is kind of a relief to her because she said that one thing she mentioned, which I thought was funny. She's like, thank goodness my mother was there to see it happen or I thought or I would think I was going crazy. But because my mother was able to say, yeah, that I watched that kind of happen. Then she didn't feel crazy. Yeah. Her mom watched her work or she knew that she was in the bathroom. Yeah. I thought she was. Wow. That is. That's crazy. That is crazy. It is. Yeah. In an instant, she was in her car. She walked in a bathroom and literally was in her car driving in that instant. Right. Yep. 20 minutes away. Yep. And I said, was it a blackout? Was it, you know, how was it? And she says, I blinked my eyes as I walked into the bathroom. I'm walking into the bathroom and I'm sitting in my car. She says, it was like that. Yeah. It was that quick and very disorienting to go from standing to sitting in a car driving. She had to pull over real quick and and get her bearings and she said, the whole thing was just strange, which I can definitely gather. But it's interesting because when I was interviewing her and talking to her, I can hear in her voice even, I guess it's been almost 20 years. She said now almost, I guess, you know, 15, 20 years difference. And she said, I could, I know I could still hear the confusion in her voice and not understanding it. So that was a good one. That was really, really good. I haven't heard that. But you know what? That probably happens more than we realize. I mean, you do hear those stories where people kind of enter into a time slip in certain parts of the world. You know, it's kind of unnerving. That has to be that unnerves me, man. Right. Seriously. No, and it's funny because when you interview people, there's different kinds of time slips. I'm realizing from interviewing people because I have people who lose a couple hours or something and they're like, where did they go? I don't remember what was going on. And then like this where they're in another place at the same time. And I've interviewed a gentleman who, who had in one of my other books who had sworn he had hiked for hours and hours in the wilderness. But when he finally got back to his car, it had only been an hour, you know? And so he makes you wonder what's going on out there. That's distorting time like this and changing things. Right. Right. I have heard stories where people have literally walked to the mailbox and turn around their family expects them to come back and they never see him again. I've heard a story about a guy. Well, that guy actually, I think he took his four wheeler down to the mailbox. His family saw him and he wasn't there anymore. I mean, the four wheeler was still there, but he was gone. And I heard a story about a guy who was walking to his car. He left the keys in the car door for some reason. I guess he was, he had to get in there to get something, but he didn't take the keys with him and he said, wait a minute, let me get the keys out of the door and they turn around and he's gone. Never, never to be seen again, man. You know, like what in the hell can cause that to happen? You, it makes you wonder. I remember reading a story about a woman or it was a retired couple in California and he said, I'm going out to mow the lawn and went out through the back door and she's like, oh, I forgot to tell him we got to go somewhere later and she opens the door to tell him and he's gone. And he couldn't have walked out of the backyard in that a short amount of time and he, you know, he never came back. The police never could find what happened where he went. There's no nothing. It's just her word that he walked out and through the door and was gone forever. So it's, it's really weird, like you say, really strange. Yeah. Yeah, you're right. Wow. Okay. So let's get into something like paranormal in one of your stories here. You got something called the green canyon ghost. Oh yes. So in the area that I live, green canyon is actually very active. Paranormally, there's quite a few people's stories out there. Where is green canyon? So green canyon is, I live in cash valley, which is in northern Utah. The county seat is Logan. And so green canyon is actually just northeast of Logan up there. It's a really pretty place where people like to go hike and everything in camp and so it's, I would say maybe this happened about 10 miles outside of Logan, maybe a Logan, Utah. And I've heard a lot of stories about green canyon. And when I hear a story, it's usually, oh, this happened to a friend of mine or whatever. And, and if it's a good story, I will do my very best to hunt it down and find that story. This one I was led to by somebody and they're like, oh, you should, you know, you collect the ghost stories. I heard a really good one from my friend. And so I hunted her down. She's one that she wanted her name and changed, but she went by Eva Eva in the story and she had moved to Utah. She went to Utah State, graduated as a teacher and got a teaching job here. At the time she was unmarried, but she had a group of friends, guys and girls that would go do a bunch of fun things together that she had met through church and through school and they all decided they were going to go camping up green canyon and they went up, found the place that they wanted to the camp and spent the night, you know, having fire, having fun and everything. And they went to bed and the boys were in one tent on one side of the camp and the girl, the two girls were on the other her and her friend Jill were sleeping in the other one and she woke up in the middle of the night and looked over and first it was seemed to be a gray shadow figure that was looming over the top of Jill and she could hear some mumbling going on and she's, you know, clearing her eyes and trying to figure out. And there was a deep growling voice coming from this shadow that was over Jill. And then Jill was still asleep at the time and all of a sudden the figure changed from a dark, almost shadow person to a tall, darker figure. It was a man with he had dirty pants, brown shirt, big suspenders. She said it looked like just an old style clothing is how she explained it. And he looked over and saw that Eva was awake and staring at him and he got this really just horribly mean face on and just and came at Eva and right into her face and was screaming get out of my camp. And when she finally came out of it and was able to scream, it disappeared. Jill woke up and she's in there just screaming because of this, you know, this apparition that is attacked or screaming, you know, for her to get out of their camp and all the boys heard her screaming and Jill screaming. She started screaming and they got around and stoked up the fire and she explained what was going on, what had happened. And after a little while, one of her other friends that was there, the boys who had been really quiet during this, he said that, you know, told them all that he had heard that this part of the canyon was haunted by this specter of this old guy that they don't know if it was a prospector, if he had a house there or whatever it was. But if you end up camping in the wrong spot, he can let you know that you're in his camp and he wants you out. And so they ended up packing up and leaving. She wouldn't stay. And so, but it's really interesting because even though this is the first firsthand account that I've had of that specter, I have a lot of other stories that are told that are not first person of people who have even been driving in the canyon at that area and have him show up in the cab of their truck, mad and yelling at them to get out of his camp. So it's definitely an area that's very active with this ghost and he seems really, really angry about people being in his area. Yeah. Yeah. Makes me want to look like that. Yeah, exactly. So Logan is beautiful. I was sitting here looking at pictures of it and wow. Yeah, it's such a special place. This is where I grew up was in Cache Valley and no matter where you live, what's amazing is you're only 10 minutes from being able to go on a hike, go fishing, go in the mountains and we have ski resort here and and it's very homey, you know, it's a very homely place. I don't know exactly how to explain it, but everybody's very nice and it's it's very special. It does have definitely have a paranormal undertones, but the more I do research and the more I talk to people, it's interesting how many people say wherever they are in the country. They're like, oh, but we've got a lot of paranormal going on in our area. So maybe not alone, but it's just a really great place to live. And what about big foot encounters? I'm wondering because I'm seeing all the mountains and stuff up there. I mean, I'm not sure, but I'd like to know if you are getting some of those stories. Yes, I get quite a few big foot stories. The one that I they have in here in my new book actually came from Wyoming, but in my other books, I have quite a few stories from Cache Valley and from especially the mountains to the east, which is the Cache National Forest. What I find is really interesting is, you know, I've been collecting these stories for a long time and they're sporadic all over, but there's one area that seems to be about, oh, I'd almost say maybe 15 mile radius where I've gotten different stories from different people who don't know each other, but you could draw a circle around and it's a hotspot for big foot. And so I just find that really interesting because there must be some correlation in that area of where they stay and it is very wilderness area. But there's a lot of people who have had encounters in that area, but definitely a lot of sightings going on. That's one also that's on my bucket list. I've spent a lot of time in the mountains growing up and everything. And I would love to see a Sasquatch, maybe not super up close, but from what I understand. But but I would love to have that experience. So yeah, me and you both. Yeah, not up close, though. I agree. No, not not too close. From what I understand, not too close. Safe distance. Yeah, exactly. Okay. There's one more I want to talk about on here and it's the apartment. Oh, okay. Yeah. So I got this one also through my website, which was great because, you know, it's from all the way across the country from me in South Carolina. So his name was Zach and he had just moved to Charleston or just outside of Charleston. It was around 2010, roughly. He had graduated in I.T. And he got hired by this small company that was just starting up and wanted him to do the infrastructure for him for all of the I.T. And he because he loved that he took the job. And when he got there, he was having trouble finding an apartment to rent out. And he finally found this small apartment in an older building and, you know, signed the lease. He thought it was strange that there was still furniture in there that had been there a long time, but he kind of thought, well, at least I, you know, don't have to go hunt for furniture. So that'll work. And for the first, you know, couple of weeks to a month or so, he worked, you know, 60 hour weeks. And when he slept, he usually did it at the office because he had a deadline and was trying to get all the I.T. set up and he didn't have a lot of help himself. And so for a while, he didn't notice anything strange in his apartment. When it finally calmed down and he started spending time in his apartment, he started noticing some strange things that were going on. He was sitting on the couch one night or in the chair watching TV and he kept catching some motion because the kitchen is just off to his left and he kept catching some motion. And but when he would look, it would go away. And a couple of times he got up and looked in the kitchen and nobody was there, but finally, whatever it was, poked its head around the corner a little bit. And rather than looking directly out of because it kept moving, he focused on the TV and kind of used his peripheral vision and it looked like an older man balding staring at him from his kitchen. So I don't know where he jumps up and runs to the kitchen thinking, we'll catch this guy and gets there and there's, there's nothing in his kitchen at all. And so he thinks that, you know, he's he says that he grew up in a family that wasn't really religious. His grandmother was Catholic and was kind of taught him a lot about that, but grew up without, you know, family that wasn't really religious. So he didn't know really what to think about anything ghosts or anything like that or the afterlife. And he really didn't believe about the paranormal and ghosts at the time. So he kind of shrugged it off. And then a few nights later, he's asleep in bed and he has a dream about this shadow in his room and he's not sure if it's a dream or not. And this, this old guy appears in his room and yells at him and gets really angry at him and he wakes up in a cold sweat and can't figure out, did I really see that? Was it a dream? You know, what was that? And he gets up and gets dressed and he goes grocery shopping. It's a, it's a Sunday morning. He heads off to go grocery shopping and comes back to the house and he's, he's trying to think what I found really funny about the conversation when I'm talking to him and, and he says that when he's on his way back, he's been thinking about it all day, seeing the guy in the kitchen, the guy came into him in his dream or not dream. And he has this line from a Christmas Carol from Scrooge saying, you know, there's more to undercooked beef to you than, than spirit and, and all this. And he kind of laughed because he thought that's what it was being overworked or eating something. And he comes into the front room, unlocks the door to the kitchen and walks in and all of his stuff is the drawers are open, things are thrown on the floor, everything's messed up. The salts dumped off of the counter off. And so he quickly looks around the house and can't see there's, you know, nobody's broken in, you know, wondering how they got in and he calls the police and the police show up to take a report and they said, you know, the police ask him, well, what was taken? And he's like, well, nothing, nothing's been taken. And they kind of shake their head and they, well, if nothing's been taken, we'll keep, you know, we'll write a report, we'll keep an eye out. I mean, we're not sure what to do, especially whoever come in. We don't know how they got in. You don't know how they got in. You might want to, you know, talk to your super see if they, he has another key, what's going on and, and they left and it wasn't long after that that, you know, it just gets really strange, you know, things get really strange with the old guy at seeing the old guy, things going on. And he finally contacts the super who had rented him the place and he says, I can't stay here anymore. And the super kind of, he went and went to his house. He lived down a little further from my guests and he's like, I can't stay here anymore. And the super kind of drops his head and he goes, it's the old guy, isn't it? And he's like shocked. He's like, well, yeah, how do you know that? And he explains that the guy that owned the apartment or the lived in the apartment for years and years was a really old, crotchety guy that nobody liked. That was mean to everybody. And when he passed away, there wasn't even anybody that really took any of his stuff or anything. And so they left his furniture there and rented it out, but that he was about the third person that had been run off from the apartment from the ghost. And they said, we thought you had figured it out because you'd been there so long. And, and he said, well, I've been at work, you know, for so long, I hadn't spent a lot of time in the apartment. And so he just packed up and left that day and went to go stay with one of his friends from work, some one of the gentlemen from work that said he could stay with him until he found a place. And it was interesting when I was interviewing him because he was, he was really mad that the super hadn't told him about the ghost. And he's like, there should be laws against that. And I, I kind of laughed. I said, you know, oddly enough in some, in some states, if your house is haunted, you have to disclose that when you sell it in the buyer's agreement and stuff. And he goes, really? And I said, yeah, I said a lot of some states take that very seriously. So yeah, he set the guy up for failure. You know, he told him at least so he, he can decide whether or not he wants to live with them. If he wants to stay in that apartment or not, you know, yeah. And so that goes right along with kind of how, you know, there's been times when people have come to me and they're like, you know, I know you write the books and I think I have a ghost in my house and I'll try and help them and talk them through. And, and when it comes right down to it, if it is a ghost, sometimes it is. And sometimes it isn't. Sometimes it's just explainable. But I try and explain to people. It sounds really weird, but meeting a ghost is kind of like meeting somebody on the street about nine out of 10 times. They're decent people. It's that 10th person that's kind of a jerk that you have to worry about. And I think this represents that 10th guy who's really a jerk. Yeah. Yeah. You got some great stories really.
