Hey Bible readers, I'm Miss Emily, and this is the Bible recap. Perkins! [♪ OUTRO MUSIC PLAYING [♪ Today's Bible Word! In Exodus 22, 22 and 23, God says, You must not exploit a widow or an orphan. If you exploit them in any way and they cry out to me, then I will certainly hear their cry. God gives his people more laws that teach them how to live best as a group, how to keep each other safe, and how to treat each other. Many of God's rules protect the people in society who need the most protection. Orphans, widows, the poor, and outsiders. Because of the customs at the time, these people are the most vulnerable, and that is a good word to remember. Right to remember. Vulnerable people are most likely to be taken advantage of. God deeply loves these vulnerable people, and He makes sure to tell His people how to treat them well. God even makes sure that there are laws that protect the Israelites' enemies. He wants the Israelites to remember the mercy and kindness He showed them so that they'll show mercy and kindness to others even to their enemies. God tells Moses to come up to the top of Mount Sinai where He'll give him stone tablets with the ten commandments on them. Moses goes up on top of the mountain and stays for 40 days and 40 nights. Jesus! God cares for everyone, especially the vulnerable. Vulnerable people often become victims of other people's sin. Even today, God's heart for them can be seen in so many of the laws He gave the Israelites. He wants the people who have more than enough to make sure that the people who have less are taken care of. His way is the best way for everyone, and He's where the joy is.
