Like 40 years too young? Who dares question... Are you serious? You two? River and Sam. I'm sorry, do we know you? Who are River and Sam? And what happened to your accent? Your accent? Of all the traveling carnivals in all of the world, can you believe teen Mr. and Dr. Anders walked into mine? And dressed like a biker and an astronaut, no less. Are the adult James and Monica still big into Halloween, Brindley? Because it was wild. I know it's probably weird that I'm writing you letters, but you told me I write a bunch in the future, so I figured, why wait? And before you get all brinley on me, yes, I know you won't read these for like, I don't know, another 30 years. That's not the plan. I just need to get my thoughts out. Let's see where to start. Since you and the Anders family left in the portal on Elixir Key, I've been searching for my parents. Okay, once more onto the breach. Or portal. Frankly, it's been hard. Lonely. Still can't find any information on where they moved to. Yes, hi. I'm looking for an address and phone number for Marie Kappenisch. Hello, internet. Can you get invented already? And it's not like I can just head to Juno, even though Joe is... Whatever. Never mind. You're welcome, what Kate didn't say. Really wasn't as bad as I made it out to be. Nice to have company for once. School is a solid no-go after being disappeared for ten years. Too many questions. So, I'm left relying on what I do know. The places my mom used to talk about traveling to. towns where we had friends, but traveling ain't cheap, so I needed to find a job. Maybe it was fate, or magic, or a big ol' coincidence, but a month ago, the universe plopped a traveling carnival at my feet. And I'm not a superstitious person, but when I saw the fortune teller's tent, I figured, what do I have to lose, besides my last fifteen bucks and whatever was left of my dignity? Maybe just maybe this Madame Fortuna would have some answers for me Only as I was about to walk into her tent lo and behold Madame Fortuna a Agnes DeVito was being dragged away in handcuffs You're hands off Madame Fortuna! You animals! Insurance fraud or some such. You want a job, kid? The owner of the carnival needed a replacement fortune teller, post-haste, and it turns out, I was good at it. Welcome. I am Madame Fortuna, the seer who sees all. I guess foreseeing the future is easier when you've already visited there. So, I started doing my thing. Scamming suckers left and right. The money started to flow and things were cool. Until the moment River and Sam walked into my tent. River and Sam. I'm sorry, do we know you? Who are River and Sam? And what happened to your accent? That is what I see within you. A river of knowledge and sampling of your future. Okay. Let us begin, shall we? I am Madame Fortuna, the most powerful seer money can buy. You have money, right? Of course we do. Then tell me, what can I do for you? Shouldn't you already know that? It's best to hear it in your own words, but I assume it has to do with the future. It does. See, we've both been having these dreams, but they aren't like regular dreams. They're more like glimpses. Voices. What kind of voices? Madame Fortuna, can you really see what's going to happen to us in the future? Universe, you have done it again. What? Yes, I am quite certain. I know exactly what's going to happen to you. He ends up in another accident the day I was volunteering at the hospital. Crazy, huh? Who is to say what is crazy? See, I love science, and I can't wait to become a doctor so I can volunteer with the rescue squad, the research hospital... Can you believe it? This dope got himself into another motorcycle accident and ended up in the ER with a sprained wrist. Where wouldn't you know it? Monica was volunteering. Talk about fate. Unless he did it to spend time with her. Which is kind of romantic. In a psychotic sort of way. I did tell him there were easier ways to get my attention. I would agree with that. Hold on. I know why you look so familiar. You were there when I crashed my bike the first time. She was? You remember, I told you about her, Monica. Ah, the mystery girl you kept talking about. The one who called for the ambulance and then disappeared? Yes, it was you, wasn't it? Man, I've thought about you so much since that day. Excuse me? No, no, no, no, not like that. I always wondered if you had seen something. Like, if you knew what happened. See, I have this gap in my memory. I don't know what you speak. Maybe this is not a good idea, and you should go on your way. Will you do it for 40 bucks? Monica, that's all your money. She seems to know something and I want to get to the bottom of what I been seeing and hearing Make it 60 and you have a deal 60 Talking to the fates is hard work Whatever here the other 20 Tell me about the accident What do you know Ah, ah, ah. You came here to learn about the future, not the past. Tell Madame Fortuna all about your visions and voices. There's one voice that haunts me. Not in a bad way, it just stays with me. I can't place it. And I feel like I need to. Is there any way we can contact that person? Contact? Yeah, like a seance or something? You think they're dead? I don't know, but I think wherever they are, it's not here. You sure about this? Can't hurt, right? Okay, let me just light these candles. Let's see. What else? So, the mystical chime. I can't do seance without a mystical chime. And now, the mystical music. Just press play on the mystical boombox, and... There we go. Now what? Please take each other's hands, relax your bodies, and close your eyes. Okay. Seamstresses of time and space, please grant us this favor. Allow me to weave and unweave the threads for these poor children. Poor children? You're like two years older than us. Shh. Grant us the knowledge as you sew the various threads of our lives into the... Patchwork quilt that is all of humanity. Patchwork quilt? Sixty bucks we will never see again. We ask to see clearly that is which to come. I am seeing... I am seeing... a son named Cyrus. Weird name? You're saying we have a kid together? And a daughter named... Birdie. That's kind of cute. And another daughter named Holiday. Now that is definitely not me. Wait, a holiday? That sounds kind of familiar. Whoa! What's happening? I can't help but wonder, Brinley. What's going on out there in 2025? Have you and Cyrus and adult Monica and James gone back to your normal lives? Do you remember me? Or am I some deleted blip in your world? like I never existed. Like nothing happened. Cyrus, you're seeing this too, right? The portal's growing bigger. And more portally. Growing? Cyrus, thank goodness you're... Oh, yeah, oh. Stay here. Dr. Anders, we already tried to get in the lab. It's locked. Like I said, stay here. Cookies and cream. Who knows how to get things done? Dr. Solstice, what are you doing? Dr. Anders, you shouldn't be down here. Is this your son? His name is Penn. Penn, my name is Dr. Anders. Where does this portal go? We can't hear you right now. He's concentrating. Okay, so why don't you tell me? Where does this go? I don't know. Neither does he. Is it a portal to a different time or place or A completely different dimension Door Oh there something off Mom Maybe you can feel it too Mom! Can you hear me? You see Monica Anders. She's there, in a lab under Woodyard Corp. Cyrus is there, too. With Brink. Brinkley! Holiday! You just touched the water and... It didn't recede! What does that mean? Penn's portal is thinning the membrane between here and the world below. It's open to us. Mom? Monica! Dr. Anders! Can you hear me? Mom! Holiday, what are you doing? What if I can reach her? See? The water is letting me in. You're going in. I am too. No way. Solo job. Brindley is there. If you go in, you can't stop me from following. Not a chance. You won't let me hear them. Don't do that. What happened in the door? What is that? The portal is... Surging or... Like something is trying to come through! Anna, stay there. You can't go without me. Watch me. Mom! Monica! Monica, it's me! Holiday! Did you hear that? Someone saying... Holiday? What does it mean? I don't know. But I feel like it might... mean... everything. Holiday? Hear us, O Mistress of Time and Space. What's happening? This is a trick. Are you making this happen? A voice from another time and place. Tell us your name. Okay, I think we should stop. It's not me. What is happening with the portal? Brindley, stand back from the glass. How do I talk to the room? Red button! Mom? Mom, can you hear me? Cyrus? You have to get out of the lab. Get away from the portal. But someone is calling to me. Mom, stay back. Stop it! Close the door! I'm not sure I know how! Look out! What's that? I don't know! Something fell through the roof. It's... a person. Well, Brinley, just when you think things are finally falling into place... That's what you call a rough landing. The future comes crashing through your tent. No way. Who are you? Uh, hi, guys.
