Summary

Bryce Crawford concludes the Luke series by examining Luke Chapter 24, which covers Jesus's resurrection, appearances to disciples, and ascension. The episode emphasizes the centrality of Christ's resurrection to Christian faith and highlights the power of shared meals and scripture study in spiritual growth and gospel communication.

Insights
  • Jesus's physical resurrection distinguishes Christianity from other religions and false prophets, making it foundational to Christian faith and worship
  • Shared meals and dinner table conversations are powerful tools for gospel communication and spiritual connection, more effective than digital communication
  • Scripture interpretation and understanding requires both intellectual engagement and spiritual revelation, as demonstrated by Jesus opening disciples' minds
  • Witness testimony and community affirmation of resurrection appearances strengthened early disciples' faith and mission
  • The resurrection narrative flows directly into Acts, suggesting continuous study of scripture rather than isolated episode consumption

What a waste Well, anyways, we'll get into the word of God today chapter 24 verse one But on the first day of the week at early dawn they went to the tomb taking the spices They had prepared and they found the stone rolled away from the tomb when they went in They did not find the body of the Lord Jesus while they were perplexed about this behold tod men two men stood by them and dazzling Apparel and as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground The men said to them why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen See if Jesus Christ did not die Then he would be no different than you and I He would be just like every other false prophet from every religion not worthy of worship not worthy of being followed but he is defeated The things that we can't avoid in this life sin and death Remember how he told you what he was still in Galilee verse seven that the Son of man must be delivered into the hands of Semphoman and be crucified on the third day So now they're reminding him hey, you remember when he foretell foretold all of these things? Yeah Remember that it happened and they remembered his words and returning from the tomb They told all these things to the 11 and to all the rest now It was Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James and the other women with them who told these things to the apostles But these words seemed to them in idle tail and they did not believe him them a Peter rose and ran to the tomb stooping and looking in he saw the linen clothes by themselves and he went home marvelling of what had happened That very day two men of them were going to a village named Emmaus about seven miles from Jerusalem And they were talking with each other about all these things that had happened Well, they were talking and discussing together Jesus himself drew near and went to them But their eyes were kept from recognizing him and he said to them What is this conversation that you were holding with each other as you walk and they stood still and looking sad so he revealed himself to two people And then one of them named Cleopas Cleopas Cleopas answered him saying are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not do the things that have happened in these days? They said to them what things? And they said to him concerning Jesus of Nazareth a man who was a prophet mighty indeed in the word before God and all people and how our chief priests and rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death and crucified him We had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this it is now the third day since he sings it happened more over Some women of our company amazed us they were at the tomb earlier in the morning and when they didn't find his body They came back saying that they had seen even a vision of angels who said he was alive Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women said but they did not see He's saying yes, pretty crazy. This guy that we followed you sit from God and he was God and Then he died and we're all bummed about it But if you have our friends said that everything was cool, but I mean I don't they said he was alive But we don't believe it and he said them oh foolish ones and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory? I'm beginning with Moses and all the prophets he interpreted to them and all the scripts of things can turn himself So they drew near into the village which they were going he acted as if he were going farther But they urged him strongly saying stay with us for this toward evening and the day is now far spent so he went in to stay with them When he was at the table with them he took bread and blessed him and broke it and gave it to them and their eyes were open and they recognized him Jesus has something powerful at the dinner table and I think this is an encouragement for me and for all believers when it comes to share in the gospel If you're struggling to share the gospel or having godly conversation with people it just takes someone out of the dinner no phones Put your phones away You'll learn a lot about someone become really good friends with someone just over a meal to dinner table Thanksgiving doesn't just have to be a holiday it can be a weapon For the gospel it can be a weapon against sin it can be a weapon against temptation and it is when they broke bread that Jesus opened their minds to the Scriptures And they recognize him and he vanished from their sight and they said to each other did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road While he opened us the Scriptures and they rose at same hour and returned to Jerusalem and they found the 11 and those who were with them gathered together Saying the Lord has risen indeed and has appeared to Simon and they told what had happened on the road and how he was known to them and breaking bread As they were talking about these saying she's himself stood among them and said to him peace to you But they were startled and frightened and thought that they saw a spirit They said to them why are you troubled and why do your doubts arise in your heart? See my hands of my feet that it is I myself touch me and see for a spirit does not have flesh and bones You see I have so he said it's physical body says look at the wounds look at my side look at my hands. It's me. I'm Jesus When he said this he showed them his hands and they still disbelieved They were joy and they marveled and and the Greek in Hebrew for the joy and marveling would mean it would be like a magic trick like they were amazed He said have you anything to eat and they gave him a piece of broiled fish and he took it and ate it before them And he said to them these are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the prophets and the Psalms was be fulfilled then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures again at the dinner table breaking Breedy opens their minds He said thus it is written that Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead and That repentance for the forgiveness of sin should be proclaimed in his name to all the nations beginning from Jerusalem You are witnesses of these things and behold I'm sending the promise of my father upon you But staying in the city until you are clothed in power on high the promise being the Holy Spirit And to close out Luke chapter 24 and he led them out as far as Bethany and lifting up their hands He blessed them well He blessed me parted from them and was carried up into heaven and they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem With great joy and they were continually in the temple Blessing God the scenario of Luke Those incredibly well with the book of Acts and that will conclude our series with the book of Luke I Don't want you guys to just take the series to never read your Bibles again I want you to take this go read the book of Acts It flows so perfectly into the book of Acts guys I pray this series has been an encouragement you comment down below what series you guys want us to see do next Love you guys praying for you guys God bless you guys and we'll see you guys in the next podcast episode Hey, thank you guys so much for watching the Luke series I pray that this thing is a blessing to you in the ultimate heart is so that you go and read this word daily You don't rely on the podcast you rely on the word of God in the Holy Spirit Thank you guys so much for watching if you like the episodes subscribe follow us on social media and we'll see you guys in the next episode
