The host emphasizes that discipline creates freedom, professionalized management enables founder step-back, and that prioritizing health and relationships actually accelerates business growth rather than hindering it.

Insights
  • Scaling to $100M requires transitioning from CEO to coach/board chair role, delegating to professional managers around the $10M mark to enable eventual exit
  • The paradox of business success: taking care of health, relationships, and personal fulfillment actually accelerates business growth more than grinding longer hours
  • AI will reduce required work hours and enable single individuals to run billion-dollar companies through outsourcing and automation, fundamentally changing work-life balance
  • Moving goalposts and the 'I'll be happy when' mentality trap entrepreneurs; redefining success beyond business metrics is essential for fulfillment
  • Building intentional life rituals (gratitude, reflection, contribution, relationships, health) now accelerates path to $100M faster than additional work hours

What is your manifesto for your $100 million life? Once you're at that stage, who do you serve? What do you stand for? What matters most to you? What are you going to do with your life? The paradox of freedom is that discipline creates it and chaos destroys it. What do you want to do with your life? People are choosing happiness over higher levels of wealth. I want to be clear with you on one thing. So the business is built, wealth is working, now what? The $100 million life. Building an amazing business doesn't just being build the business. The paradox of freedom is that discipline creates it and chaos destroys it. So we've got to get here from how do we move from entrepreneurial grind to intentional living? Now why is this massively important when we're talking about building a $100 million business? Because at some point you're going to professionalize management, usually around $10 million. What do I mean by professionalized management? You're going to bring in people that have done it before, people that have already built this, people that have taken companies to IPO, people that have taken companies to a sale, people that have gone to that financial exit. You're going to start bringing in a CMO that can do $100 million a year. You're going to bring in a HR director that is massively capable of running a thousand person organization, not a 50 person organization. That's going to happen. Now what also that means is that gradually you and me step back from the business. Because if we're going to exit, which we know it's some way you're going to exit, negative, positive, you get to choose. If we're going to build an exit, then we want to build away from that entrepreneurial grind to that intentional living. So that we build a commercial profitable enterprise that works without you, a business that runs, a business that's an investment, a business that's an asset. Remember, your job is to become the coach of your business. Your job is to, and I hate to say it, Tim, you got it wrong. It's not the four hour work week. It's the one hour work week. One hour coaching your team to do the job, coaching your CEO, your CEO works with the team. So what that means is we need to design a life that works outside of the business. Having a great business, yes, design the life that works outside of the business. And it's like designing by strategy, not default, intentional living. See, what freedom truly means on a day to day, it's almost like you think about, okay, how do we reconnect with health, reconnect with relationships, reconnect with the hobbies and the joyous things of my life type thing. People often joke with me, I see, I hope all my kids want to live in five different countries so I can go and visit them all the time type thing. But it's not really about that. What it is is say, how do we, in our success systems, especially if we've defined success in terms of business, okay, if you've spent your life building in a great company and you define your success by the business, maybe we've got to start looking at redefining what success is to us, okay? How do we do that? And so I want to go take you through the step by steps today. The science of happiness versus the illusion of achievement. I want to use the word fulfillment, okay? Why the word fulfillment? Because I've seen this many, many times with entrepreneurs build great companies, do amazing things, and yet the illusion of achievement is like, well, I'll be happy when, I'll be happy when this happens, when that happens, and I'll start to slow down if this, and I'll go back, and so this illusion that, and the goalposts, they just keep moving their own goalposts. They go, oh no, the world's moving the goalposts. No, you've kept moving your own goalposts, developing an intentional life. Now, I want to be very blunt on something here. Given the level with which AI is changing our world, there will be a time when the work week is less hours than it is today. Now, when Henry Ford, 100 years ago, actually 1926, not 2026, he changed the world when he said, we're gonna go to a 40 hour work week, okay? Change the world, people, that's insane. How can you possibly get anything done on a 40 hour work week? I think we're gonna see a reduction in the work week at some point in time, because AI is gonna do a lot of the work for us. Now, if that means that people are spending an hour more on health each day, so rather than an eight hour work day, maybe you've got a six hour work day, and that six hour work day means that you've got two hours of doing amazing health things and relationship things, and getting out and seeing the sunshine type stuff. You know, that to me is where I see us going. Now, why do I bring that up? Because we as owners are gonna get more and more done with less and less. We're gonna achieve more with less time. We're gonna have AI thinking for us, creating for us, allowing us to do less and less and less. So this illusion of achievement is gonna start to disappear. This whole theory of I gotta keep working harder, I gotta be busy is going to slowly disappear. In fact, we can already see it disappearing. People are choosing happiness over higher levels of wealth. People are choosing more freedom over higher levels of wealth. We can see this happening in the world. Well, here's the thing. Freedom without purpose becomes really emptiness if that makes sense. You know, when I look at building great freedom into a lifetime, into a life, then that greatness of freedom comes with some level of purpose. And if that's building the great people, or if it's building an intentional life for you, spending and investing more time with your kids, with your family, with friends, et cetera, I wanna be clear with you on one thing. If you're gonna build a business that's as amazing as I think you are, if you're gonna be building a hundred million dollar business, then you're gonna have the freedom to plan your life. You're gonna have the freedom to choose where you go and to choose what you do. If you do it, the way I teach, obviously. Now, with that comes a level of responsibility. What do you wanna do with your life? Where do you wanna go with it? So, I wanna think about this. The rituals that you have that keep you successful in business, how do you build those rituals into your life? The rituals that have made you the success that you are, how do you turn them into intentional living? Having that same level of discipline, but doing it in areas that make sense for you today with the way the world is moving today. I do believe one day we're gonna see a billion dollar company run by one individual. Yes, one person, billion dollar company. Now, they'll probably have agencies and outsourcing a bunch of stuff, but I believe we're gonna get to that point. With AI and a single person, we can get there. So, do you need to plan more intentional living, less work, more intentional? I believe we do, and especially if you're building a business that you wanna have an exit from, a good financial exit, it needs to run without you, means you've gotta step away and step back more often. So, think about this. If we look at simple daily rituals that keep us successful in work, they can also keep us successful in life. What are the daily rituals? Building routines for fulfillment rather than building routines for advancement, if that makes sense. So, gratitude, reflection, contribution, relationships, health, how do we build rituals into your life for that? Now, here's a really clear thing. I'm gonna say this as blunt as I possibly can, because I think people need to understand this, and maybe it's directed at you, maybe it's directed at others. If you create this harmony in all the other areas of your life, you will do better at work. Your business will get better, your life will get better if you build the harmony. If you build the gratitude, the reflection, the relationships, the contribution, if you build all of these things, your business will get better. The more you take care of your health, the better your business will get. That, my friends, is one of the paradoxes of business success. People think that if I throw myself into the business, if I dedicate 10, 12 hours a day into the business, it will make, no, that is not what we'll get to there. To get to a million, yes, you needed that, to get to 10 million, at some level, you needed to push, you needed to do that stuff, but going for 100 million, you need a team that pushes. You need to be their coach. You need to be the chair of the board, working with them once a week as their coach, or once a month with the board. That's where you need to build that intentional life. Now, your intentional life might include building other companies, so you will be dang busy doing other stuff. But either way that you look at it, you've got to mentor the next generation, you've got to create that ripple effect of success, but in order to do that, you've got to take care of you first. Build you and you can then build them. How do you become a coach? How do you become chairman of the board? What do you need to learn to become chair of the board? What books do you need to read? What pods do you need to study other than obviously mine, to be that coach of your CEO rather than being the CEO? That, my friend, is what we're talking about here today. If you go into mentoring the next generation, imagine a year, five, 10 years from now, you're mentoring 10 CEOs because you're a major shareholder in 10 companies, using all the knowledge you have to buy a share of an existing good company and making it great. That, my friend, is the true planning of life. You know, unfortunately, when we're born on this planet, we don't get the manual. Okay, we get a mom and dad. No manual, mom and dad, you know? And they didn't have a manual either. They're figuring out as they go. One day, I think my kids might actually find out that I'm just working it out as I go. I don't know, maybe they will. But the true wealth test is really how many people grow because of you, how many companies or investments or things grow out there in the world because of the knowledge you have that you're out there living an intentional life, getting back in connection with all of those different areas. You know, I think it's simply, you know, last week we talked about taking a legacy and turning it into a plan. And this week, I really wanna talk about what is your manifesto for your $100 million life? Once you're at that stage, who do you serve? What do you stand for? What matters most to you? What are you gonna do with your life? Now, if you start it today, because this is the paradox of teaching you what to do when you've got to $100 million, doing it now will get you to $100 million. It's such an amazing paradox, but you getting healthier today will get your company to $100 million faster than you grinding out an extra hour of work every day, hitting the gym for an hour, going for a walk with the dog, whatever it is, you will get there faster by doing these things now. Intentional living now will get you there faster. I think putting together your $100 million manifesto, nothing could be more freeing. When I wrote the manifesto for Action Coach, it gave my team a real understanding of why we do what we do. Now, you can have ChatGPT help you with your manifesto. You can ask it all about yourself and you can give it guidance and say, this is what I think I'll be doing. This is how I wanna plan my life. This is what I wanna be focused in on. And brainstorm with Chat, brainstorm with Poplexity, whichever one you use, it doesn't matter. What matters is this though. If you build an intentional life, you build a better intentional business. People that fall for the hustle and grind today, kill themselves and kill their business. We are moving into and we're already in really the intelligence age. In the information age, it was all about getting information. In the information age, it was about finding out the details, it was about getting to know what the information was. In the intelligence age that we live in today, we struggle with it because there's too much information. How do we define that information? I know our AI system at Action Coach, and if you become a client, you can use it too. It's the CFO in our AI system is a better CFO than any human is. Why? They can take in all the data. They can take in all the information. The AI is now needed because there's so much information on the planet that we need to process it. So you and me become better by using those tools to do it. And yes, you can use AI to help you set up your intentional life to get out of the entrepreneurial grind and set up what is that better life look like. I want you understanding that the grind mentality will kill the business and kill you. You know, it's often said, and I'll finish with this, success is getting what you want. Freedom is wanting what you've built.
