Sig Event overkill at Trump Doral, the Cameron Young era, and grumpy Scottie

The hosts discuss the Cadillac Championship at Trump Doral, criticizing the event's poor execution and scheduling conflicts that led to weak attendance and lack of compelling golf. Cameron Young dominates to win, while Scottie Schaffler finishes runner-up for the third consecutive week, raising questions about the PGA Tour's calendar management and the impact of signature events clustering around major championships.
Insights
- PGA Tour's reactive scheduling under Monahan era created structural failures—stacking signature events and majors within 2-3 weeks discourages top players from competing, undermining event prestige regardless of venue or purse
- Dominant individual performances (Young's 6-shot win, Nellie Korda's 4-shot win) don't automatically translate to compelling television or audience engagement without proper narrative framing and golf course storytelling
- Post-Masters calendar represents a structural weakness for the PGA Tour—majors overshadow non-major events, making it difficult for signature events to establish identity or draw casual viewers
- Golf broadcast production prioritizes shot sequences over strategic analysis and course education, missing opportunities to deepen fan sophistication and differentiate week-to-week coverage
- Cameron Young's rapid ascent from unranked to top-4 player demonstrates the volatility of modern golf rankings and the importance of major-championship contention in establishing player hierarchy
Trends
PGA Tour calendar fragmentation: signature events losing cultural relevance when clustered near majors, requiring structural reform rather than reactive schedulingRise of dominant individual players: concentration of wins among 4-5 elite players (Schaffler, Young, Fitzpatrick, Korda) suggests widening talent gap and reduced competitive parityGolf broadcast evolution stalled: industry-wide failure to adopt educational/analytical commentary models used successfully in NBA, NHL, creating viewer engagement ceilingInternational rules enforcement inconsistency: Asian Tour/Korean Tour incidents reveal gaps in standardized rules application and player conduct management across co-sanctioned eventsWomen's golf momentum building: Nellie Korda's dominant stretch (6 starts: 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 1st, 1st) creating potential breakout narrative if media capitalization occursPGA Tour leadership transition: Monahan-era reactive decision-making (Trump Doral return, event designation changes) creating scheduling chaos that outlasts his tenureLongevity records as narrative: Adam Scott's 100-consecutive-majors streak becoming notable storyline, indicating aging player retention as content angle

Now the shotgun starting golf is full of mathematics. There's a lot of setup work that we have to do in order to make a tournament work. So I'm going to demonstrate to you just exactly how we do a shotgun start here. And here we go. Alright, alright, alright. Gentlemen! Start your engine! Greetings and welcome to a Monday edition of the shotgun start. It is May 4th. Andy, how we doing? Brendan! I'm doing fantastic. I'm back in what I would call the friendly confines here. What does that mean for those listening and not watching? Even those watching, it's hard to tell. A couple of years in this podcast, I called a little garden shed in the back of my yard home most days. And eventually the sheer heat that could come into the shed just drove me out. It was like uninhabitable after 2 p.m. in the summer. So that's what led to the shed going away. There were bees at one point, I feel like. Weren't there wasps or spiders of some sort? There were... I mean, there's always spiders. I mean, I want everybody to know I'm risking my life in here because it hasn't been inhabited. So the spiders are probably pretty bad in here. I don't know what it is, a shed. But I'm in the shed. One final time in the shed. What time in the shed? That's the glory year. So this podcast took on a different life maybe when you were in the shed. It took off, I guess, in a way. Who knows? It went somewhere, in a way. The best part of the year is the time... The few months before I finished it, before I put walls up, I'd get on Zoom calls and people would be like, Are you okay? Yeah. Where are you? You're hiding in the woods somewhere, waiting for... Just avoiding people after you or something like that hiding in a room. Yeah, that was great. Glorious. I remember I went there once, recorded once there on a Sunday, and you'd left the space eater on, which would make sense in the morning. It was probably chilly, but we came in there at like three o'clock after it had been sunny all day. And it was like a thousand degrees in there. I walked in and got just like hammered with a wall of heat. It's like, how are you recording in here? But you did it. It was a number of days where I would just be like pouring sweat sitting, working. And my computer would stop working as well because it overheat. That little Charles Schwab commercial is like the shed features prominently. Yeah, when you went from, I don't know, took a step, big step in that shed. So we're recording there Sunday night now. You're back in the shed. I'm in my little old office per usual, at least for the last several years. We have a cat-alert recording location. Has it changed since we started this podcast once? I mean, yeah, it was it buzzed around there for a little bit. The very earliest years when we were like, well, we can't record until like 11 p.m. out of like, you know, have to be loyal to the listeners. The full day has to occur. And I would like hide from my kids down in our laundry room and record at like 11 p.m. But yeah, pretty much stayed the same for the last five, six years. We'll see. We'll see. My wife had us looking at a house this weekend. I was like, oh God, that's a bad idea. Oh, no. It's the office. The office is not going to change. I think we might have a garage sale. That's not true. We're just going to have a just load everything up on the sidewalks. Non-sale, if we'd ever came to that. So the Cadillac Championship felt like a garage sale of sorts at times, quite frankly. A dud of an event. I'm just going to come out there and say it. Events stinks. It was bad. Great winner. Appropriate winner. One of the best players in the world won it. Just, you know, I tweeted on Saturday, like, this is why the WGCs were the euthanized at the end. And I was clear to say the end. They were fine. There were some good WGCs in the heyday of Tiger. They became quickly juiceless. They became kind of soulless. This one, there's just too much going on here. There's too much. There's a signature two weeks ago. There's a signature next week. There's a major in two weeks. There were six, five of the top players in the world missing. There's preferred lies. There's no fans were showing up. It's just like it had no juice. It wasn't a, it was not a compelling golf tournament. It wasn't a compelling championship. Obviously Camion boat races the field. So, you know, that takes some of the drama out, but you know, it's a good winner. It's a great winner. Given the year he's had, it's not, you know, like some random Joe Schmoe winning by Alex Smalley is up by five. That would have made it worse, I suppose, but it just, it wasn't very good. And I think we're allowed to say that it, nobody showed up now. You know, I'd be able to be like, this is the Trump stink on things. Like I don't, I don't agree. I think that's a lot more than that as someone who follows golf. Is there some, some cohort of people who might not have come just as there wouldn't have been if this was Kamala Dural or Biden Dural instead of Trump Dural? Probably maybe a few less people came because it is Trump Dural and voted with that or feet of not coming or whatever. But like, I think it was way more than that. It was way, it just wasn't very good. Now, maybe that gets people fired up for the next 45 minutes to us to talk about it, but I do have many notes to pick apart. It just, it fell flat for me. What did it feel for you? I mean, I don't know. I don't, I don't necessarily, but yeah, the, there's no fans there. Hey, that's, that was bad, bad attendance all week. And I think like this time period right now is like, I think just like the doom period of the PGA tour calendar. Like the master's happens and, and you just like don't really care about anything. After the masters, even the PGA falls into this where I almost feel like the PGA is like becoming less than a major. Cause it's too soon. Just made some sheer discourse. Like there's no discourse. There's no lead up. One of the great ways that calendar used to have like this cadence of you got a flash of major golf and then it went away for a little while and then it came back and then it, and then it, and then it ripped, you know, one, two, three. Yeah. In the summer, I, if you took the major out, would this have, if there wasn't a major in two weeks, would this have had more juice? I think it just still would have felt like random to me in this spot. I don't know why it was this week with quail, hollow next and, and. So you're asking these guys to play, you know, let's now these guys can play whatever they want. Yeah. All right. I think the idea and the way that golf works the best, and this might be one of the things that live has done, the did, it does have right. Is that player should play every time, you know, for these big events. Signatures. They aren't going to, and they aren't, there's not going to be a structural change that puts them under contract. So the idea of that happening is, is kind of a pipe tree, right? The idea that they will tee it up all the time that Rory and Scotty and, you know, go down the list of players that they're going to tee it up in every signature event and major is a pipe tree. That they're all going to be there all the time, no matter how well you schedule it. But the idea of playing of a pro playing five times in six weeks, two of which being a major and three of which are signature events is a bit ridiculous. This is just bad scheduling that set this up, this event up in particular for failure. If you played Dural and you play Quail Hollow, then you're playing three straight weeks. Your third week is the PGA, a major championship, right? And I just don't think a lot of guys want to do that. I think like the idea of like, okay, I'll play the week before the major or two weeks before the major. And that's the way I'm going to, and then I'm going to go work on my game. So like in reality, the best thing the tour can do is to contract the players and they have to play, but that's not going to happen. No. So the next best thing that the tour can do is set the schedule so there's a realistic chance that somebody might play all of these. And when I say someone, I'm talking about like the five most players, important players in the world. Right. Because it doesn't matter if, you know, if SEP Shrocka plays all the signature events and and the disrespect tank like that. How about that hat tan? No. Good. What a good ad for our friends at Fairway and Green, Summit Golf Brands. A lot of shine on that, literally and figuratively, a lot of shine on that moment. Must be comfortable on the range because he's spending a lot of time there. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, the way the reason it felt random, let's be honest. This is like one of the last finals sign off salvos of the J. Monahan era of this reactive. Let's look no farther than for the 10 feet in front of our face era of reacting to whatever we need to do in the moment. Plug a hole, whack a mole, plug a hole, whack a mole, no long term vision. Oh, the president, we could be friends with him or get bugged on our side. I get the political maneuvering, but that's why this event came back. In this instance, it left now a lot of like there's a total misunderstanding of why it left 10 years ago. People were like, Oh, like they didn't want to be associated with Trump. That was not it. Cadillac bowed out. It was a money reason. Cadillac was out. The Mexican group, Grupo Salinas was in. That was a money reason they left. It had nothing to do with Trump. This time they're back because like this was part of the whole live sort of negotiation and the president obviously having a position of influence and power and okay, we'll go back to the rail. And that's the way kind of business was done in the J. Monahan era. And I don't know, you know what, J outlasted Yasser. I don't know if Jay's doing anything right now, but Yasser resigned before Jay did. So he's got a feather in his cap on that one. We have a guess that like three years ago. Yeah, kind of incredible. Yasser resigned this week from live. Jay's still there. I mean, he's there and he's there and body. I don't know if he's there in spirit or mind, but he's at the tour. And but this is just the way it feels random and just sort of crowbarred in or attached on was because it was just this reactive sort of what can we do to plug a hole and maybe survive or maybe get a leg up against live. And that was sort of characterized the last, I don't know, call it four or five years of constant change. Oh, these are going to be elevated. No, they're going to be designated. No, they're going to be signature. No, we're going to have a hundred. That's just how they've done business in the live era. And so that's how we ended up with this event. And that's the truth of it. It sort of just fell flat. But you know what? You talked about it. They've struggled in this stretch postmasters forever. This is my my personal opinion to quote the great Don maybe the late great Don. He's just, he's just like, it's my personal opinion on it. There is no personal opinion. I'm the president of the PJ for America, right? I have a thousand members that are listening to my every word and I'm proud to represent them. My personal opinion for me, and I have the microphone right now is once we get to major season, like everything is just the majors are not majors. And that's why I've always struggled with the FedEx Cup, quite frankly, because like the majors happen and now I'm like supposed to get up for this. I just, this is not, that's just me though. Maybe the audience is there and other people feel differently and they're into golf because it's summer. And they're playing golf and all these. For me, like it's just hard for events, especially when you're trying to tell us they're important and all the big stars are here to stand out once the majors start. And that's just how I feel as a consumer. Maybe that's not a prevailing notion though. I would say like if you were at what's one event during major season that stands out? I mean, typically Memorial does. But Scottish. Scottish, sure. Scottish is one. Memorial tries to stand out. For me, I think. I think Memorial stands out. I think Memorial and Scottish were my like the two that jumped off the page. Okay. But that's two of like 10 to 14. And what events stand out on the PGA Tour as a whole? I mean, for me, it's always like the West Coast Swain as we get excited and get back into it. The players, of course, Bay Hill, like those seem to like capture. But they're before the majors, right? They don't stand in contrast to the majors. I think the vast majority, if you said, hey, what PGA Tour events stand out, they would immediately jump to all the term is before the majors. And I think the only one that's really carved out like a great, great identity. I think the two that have like a great, strong identity within major season are the Memorial and the Scottish. And the Scottish is because people are going to learn that they are going to get a custom playing linked golf. Yeah. Like that's the, you know, and it's like this introduction to the Open Championship Week. So the only reason that the Scottish stands out, if you plop the Scottish this week, it wouldn't stand out and nobody would go. You know, the only reason the Scottish actually works is because it's before major. Yeah. Yeah. It's adjacent to a major. Yeah. So it's a fascinating theory that you brought up is like, do PGA Tour events actually work during once the major season go? I mean, some of the TV ratings would say yes, like quite frankly, the Travelers pops the week after the US Open, the RBC heritage continues to pop. Travelers stinks. I look, I'm with you. So I'm trying to say my feeling may not be the majority feeling. I just, it's insane to me that this event like had such prominence this week. We should give some flowers to Cameron Young. We should note that he won. It was over, I think I would say midday Friday. It felt over a dominant performance from Cameron Young. I don't know if there's an asterisk next to it. I may just be trying to pop the boys here. He won by six over Scottie Schaeffler plays with Scotty and Siwook him was just sort of coronation Sunday. I think we could put an asterisk on it. Do you want an asterisk? The sheriff, he wasn't, he wasn't the head of state this week. He was, the president was in attendance and that executive, executive authority didn't allow Schaeffler to go out there and arrest Cam Young this weekend. Couldn't put Cameron Young into cuffs because it, because Trump was there. You're saying we had a federalism issue where federal government might have overwhelmed the local authority. So you didn't have jurisdiction or final say. All right. He was out there without his handcuffs. They took, they took his badge. They took his gun and his handcuffs. They took him off the streets this week. So not no asterisk because you know, Rory Scottie or Rory Fitz, the best player maybe going right now, Ludwig, Xander, Bobby Mack, others preferred lies, all these other things. No cut, no asterisk for any of that stuff just because Scotty wasn't the ultimate authority. Preferred lies. Preferred lies is playing right in the Scotty's hand. No mud boss. It's the fairest thing you could possibly do. Hey, how do you get a penalty for your ball movement when you can move it yourself with your hand? You're a man of integrity. That's how this was the greatest show of sportsmanship since Westie. You're a man of integrity. And then you put Scotty right in the body bag from there. You're joining the class cavalcade here, Andy, of like just, we have to add like an extra, you know, swoop of butter on already calling Cameron Young the greatest thing since Lacey. Like that question from Amanda that absolutely like Scotty tells about how incredible man of honor you are, like was just, I get it. It was a great question. It was a great topic to bring up. But yeah, give him his pat on the back. I agree. I just don't think you should be allowed to. I don't know why you're anti Cameron Young. I don't understand how you're anti. You're always trying to pull. You're always trying to pop PJ and Joseph's balloon. I'm not anti. I'm not anti at all. He was my pick this week. Gambling pod, by the way. Hey, hey, hey, we've just been rolling all year between the three of us. We get three bites of the apple. That's three wins and four weeks for this gambling pod. I'm not anti Cameron Young. Did you take the Fitsies last week? No, we both took. We both took Aaron right. It was bad. I just, I just don't think you should even be allowed to incur a two shot penalty for making your ball move when you're allowed to just move it around all willy nilly. He apparently has a problem with this. According to the question, the answer to Amanda is that he slams his club down too hard. Apparently it's fourth time he's incurred it, but you know what? Good on him. Good on him as the foremost cam appreciator PJ, someone who's kind of helped them hoist the trophy at the players. Basically, you know, put one hand on it and help them hold it up. Do you think if he's up one at that point, he calls it on himself or was it a moment of convenience to be the craft individual? He just, he just, he lives to just pop the balloon. I'm asking questions. He lives to pop the balloon. I'm not pop. I'm asking a question. Yes, I think he, yes, I think he does. Okay. I don't know if you heard, he goes to church every Sunday morning. Yeah. I mean, okay. I almost took the Lord's name in vain. Just respond to that. Um, uh, he's incredible. Is he the best player in the world? I don't know. No, feels not the best player in the world. Is he, is he one of the four best players in the world? Absolutely. Well, that's, that's, I think there's a clear line after four now at this point. It seems, seems like we're trending that way. I think that's an interesting subplot as we go into the summer quite frankly. For his kind of NA, like, I'll see you when I see you. Just expect me. I'd probably be pretty good, but you won't even know, you know, you, you can figure on it, but I don't need to show you until I show up. Um, it does feel like we have a leading quartet. We have a real kind of, not to make, make sort of the, the peripheral contest important. The FedEx Cup race is kind of insane right now with the top three guys and that's it. Like a, like it's, it's a real sort of battle royale between Fitz, Scotty and Cameron Young. Say maybe it's a problem. If arguably the most, most popular player in the world is just sort of like, no thanks. I've not, not worried about that one right now. Definitely not going to Memphis. Well, it's maybe a problem for the playoffs, you know, dignity, but do you think he's got a house in St. Louis yet? Or do you think he's just going to pull up in Atlanta? We'll see when I see you. I mean, the thing is too, he's going to be in England. He's probably just going to stay over there for a week. London to Belrives is crazy. God. Belrives. You're not going to watch to make your playoffs appealing. You're just not, I just don't know what to say. The best, the last J. Monahan, you know, is along the lines of what you're talking about is when, when the, the great Western open goes to Liberty National in a couple of years. I believe it was a concession to the, to the firefighters. 9-11. Yeah. Family. It's like, wait, spell that out. Are you mad at us for turning our backs and dealing with the size? Well, how could I, how could I make you feel better with an event at Liberty National? Is that what the, I think it was more before when they got their support. Oh my God. That might be even worse actually. I think it was like, can you come, come help back us up? What are the semi meaningful of that? Bring you the Western open. That's that. I think that is worse now that you just spelled it out like that. Well, we know it's going to be hot at Bell Reef in August. We know it's going to be hot in Memphis in August. Might I suggest preparing for those such, such conditions by going to bedratty.com, perusing their cool material that is parentheses in the ad read, literally cool to touch and cools the body down. I can personally attest to this. PJ can test this. Andy can attest to this. Hey, can I give you a little personal anecdote? Sure. I had a friend of mine. He's a big fan of the pod. Good friend of mine. And like the last time I played golf with him, he's like, I just can't get there with dratty stuff. I can't get there. And he was a loyalist to another brand. And he texted me because he bought some of our master's gear, the cool polo with the gnome on it. And he and he's like, this is it. This is this is the shirt. I'm now a full dratty convert. And I think he ordered a bunch more. Oh, so maybe this is the gateway drug to other dratty. The gateway, the cool, the cool polo. Love that. Well, they've got the cool Olin, which is the killer new lightweight sport hoodie. The cool Larson, the cool Jake. We were at the players just taking a spin through their merch tent there and went to the dratty section. Some of the new stuff, which we had not touched or seen ourselves was PJ and I were kind of like, no BS like looking at you like this is the goods right now. Their cool material is fabulous. So as it starts to warm up, not been warm here. God had been schizophrenic like whiplash with the weather like in the fifties, but we should, you know, knowing DC, it'll be like 95 tomorrow. Load up, use the code SGS 30 knocks 30% off as you get to that cart. Check out the cool material or anything while you're over there. The boxers are apparently incredible sellers with that natural fiber, natural Peruvian P. Makat. So SGS 30 at Bdratty.com. Thanks to them for their continued support. Other Cadillac championship notes. Do we need to say anything more about Cameron Young? I feel like he won by so much. We're not doing the justice. I don't think we are. Okay. What do you want to say? I mean, this guy is absolutely a world class player. Understood. And you think about where he was a calendar year ago. He was, well, he hasn't even won yet. He hasn't done this. He hasn't, he hasn't, like he's contended in some majors, but he can't put it all together. You think about Canada when he shipped it over the green and two, you know, kind of blew that one. You think about all these wins or all these close calls. And then he gets it done at the Wyndham, obviously plays great at the Ryder Cup. And now like, I mean, you're, Joseph, just mocking you of you mocking him about Cameron Young being the third best player in the world. But now you look at it in a certain place though, like what you just talked about. I know, I know, but I just look at it now. It's like, I think all of the things I'm super impressed by is like, yeah, it felt like it was over on Friday afternoon, but it's hard to just make it be over. And he just did that. Like he was just an all out assault all week long. And I think that's the thing I'm most impressed by. The players in a way that I, in a way I'm more impressed with this one than I am with the players. And that's like a crazy take. I know, but like, I don't, it's all out domination of a really good field. I don't think that's a crazy take because I kind of, he was never in control of the players. Like Ludwig came back to the field. He just stayed there. He stayed around. He was in position for Ludwig to come back to the field, but that had to happen. He wasn't going to go chase him down. That was a real golf course though. This was a blitz. Joseph Savage and Dorel. I don't think it was that bad. Oh, I thought I thought it was pretty boring. I would just point out that the telecast does nothing on at no telecast in golf. Cares to do anything to make the golf course more interesting. That's fair. There's a few ways they could do that. Yeah. There were some cool holes out there. You just drilling down on a few holes and like talking strategy for two or one. I mean, like they, they cut to, there's, I think it was 11, the shorter part four on the back. It's got the bunker that cuts diagonally across it and there's a fairway right and left. And I was looking at it. I was like, oh, this is a really cool hole. And, you know, they went on to talk about how much bunker sand there was on the golf course. It's like, are we looking at the same thing? Cause like this looks really neat. Like you could go left, you can go right, but there's no discourse of that. And there's never been interest of any producer to, to have meaningful discourse. So like, yeah, golf courses look like they suck. Like I don't think it's the greatest golf course in the world. I don't think it's like in the bat. It's one of the best golf courses on the PGA tour, but every golf course has a couple moments where you're like, oh, this is really cool. This is neat. Like relatively almost every golf course has those moments. Like maybe Belle Reve doesn't. But the, the, the, the modern pro golf telecast doesn't do anything to help accentuate those moments in a golf course that is, in a golf course that, that put you like outside of the obvious ones. It's like they, yeah, tenant Riviera, we're going to talk about that 17 at Sawgrass. We're going to talk about that. Like there's never meaningful discourse on anything that isn't obviously pointed out by, by years and years of people point saying this is a cool hole. Like I never turn on a telecast and it's at a golf course that I've never been to. And I'm, wow, like that's a cool hole. I actually want to go see that now. Like I was watching, you know, watching Dorel, like is it high on the list of places that I want to go see? No. Did the golf course, like were there some holes that were like, oh, it looks pretty fun to play. Yes. And like the tele, the modern golf telecast doesn't do any, any favors to any golf course. Like it makes Olympia fields look really boring. It makes, it makes everywhere they go, the way, the way it's covered, it makes it fairly boring combined with the way these guys play, which is they just hit it forever and then they hit a wedge it. Yeah. But did you see 385 yards? How about that? I saw that. We did get a little look. And by the way, those broadcast has a bunch of people chops on it. Like, yeah, Frank Noble used to do this on golf channel where he'd show, you know, you know, these things like Ken Brown or whoever that would like kind of show you maybe just drill down. It's tricky. There's like, is the point of the broadcast to tell like the narrative storytelling of the, the player and the competition and the leaderboard jockeying versus the golf course. Look, you'll hear all sorts of different points of view on that. But I agree. If we're just talking about one couple holes, something like that to further appreciation for the playing field. Well, it just differentiates week in week out. It doesn't make it. I mean, yeah, especially this week where you have Cam Young where it's like, you know, it's over. I, yeah, I, I don't know. I think it's like there's it's show shot, show shot, show shot, show shot says by the rhetoric for so long. That I do think it's hollowed out the the storytelling and the opportunity to educate and inform like part of like when I turn on an NBA game. I love when I watch a broadcast that I learned stuff about defensive rotations and like everybody that like you turn on playoff hockey. And you learn something about like a power play, like the way they run their offense on power play to to manufacture shots and like what they're doing. They're drawing a defender here so they can pass it. The intricacies of the sport are what make it really interesting. Like to me today, the high one of the highlights of the broadcast was the Cameron Young swing analysis. I thought that was good. And like the way they showed how he used the ground. Those are the moments that like that make golf fans more sophisticated. Get them more in the bucket. It's not just showing the 65th flip ledge of the event. You know, it there like everybody that just yells about shots are is for the show in the gambling game. In the gambling community and not actually thinking about like how do we broaden the appeal of the sport is is some there has to be balance. Then yeah, they can go to the betcast do their little betcast or they just show shots. So shots. Yeah, there has to be balance. There has to be storytelling. There has to be sappy vignettes that Jimmy Roberts does, you know, and that we're going to make fun of. But that that broadens the appeal of the sport. Yeah, I think Cam Young might broaden the appeal. I know he's viewed as sort of a dial tone. I think Cam is approaching stardom of some sort. I just want, you know, there these guys accuse me of trying to pop the balloon and take them down. I am a full Cam appreciator. Good, you know, Jesuit high school grad love Cameron Young. He's accredited to the game and he calls Palatheon himself. I think he could become like this is what the tour needs studs like absolute studs and he's got sort of the look in the game. And, you know, maybe he's not emotive enough for some, but I think he's, you know, he's getting to a place where he's probably going to be a factor. He's a capital P problem. And to think about, you know, like qualifying for the U.S. Open this time last year, right? Do you see anyone out there on the board who's, you know, a hundredth, 150th in the world, a hundred, you know, called 75 or above right now. I was looking at this, like thinking about where Cam came from and call it May, end of May last year to where he is now. The only options are like Zaltorus, who's like an injury thing, right? Like you could see him if we ever came back to like the talent and maybe Brooks like that. Like this was kind of shocked. What about potty? What about him? Just blatant things to and fro. That's not changing very anytime soon. I think he just sort of speaks to where the talent came. You expected him to sort of get to this level. There's an obvious name here. The sitting at 81 in the world. I mean, I think he's like a freco-hoey. Obviously. I mean, Keppke could maybe do it if he cared enough about other PGA tour events. But Zaltorus, I think those are two of the guys that you could see go from like call it June 1st into. I mean, what about Johnny Kieffer? He's 71 in the world. Maybe. Yeah, isn't that the start that everybody imagined? Yeah, maybe. I mean, Cam is in a rarefied air real fast right now. So congrats to him. I'll give you a couple other notes. Please. Alex Fitzpatrick T9. Very impressive debut on the PGA tour as a full member. Top 10's it. I mean, he's basically, yeah. He's up to 39 in the FedEx Cup now and he's only played two events. He seems on his way to... It's exciting. I think that's a cool added storyline. Brothers on the PGA tour. I mean, especially if you can keep playing really well. You know what I really enjoyed? What's that? Nabilo. Scotty hit a shot. And Nabilo was like, I wonder how much Shinnecock is on Scotty's mind right now. Just complete erasure of the PGA. Which they have. Defending champion of. Yes, I saw that. We're talking about, there was a conversation about completing the slam in there. And Nance said he's going to do it at Pebble next year. Not Shinnecock this year. Nance the Pebble lover. Breaking news from one of the boys here. Lemania says that Brandl just nominated Cam for the Bobby Jones Award for his honesty. Says thank you, Brandl. On behalf of the boys, we will accept this nomination. We are good. We're taking it. Nope. Here he comes. He's got the needle. I just run out of my balloon. I'm holding it in my hand. He's got his needle. No, it's the media. It's just like we have to like trip over ourselves to like, oh, like, you know, clutch our tissues and wipe our eyes. Like the way we like the class conversation. Of course, incredible job by Cameron. Can we just talk about this game without like going crazy for a second? Where are you with the world number one? Scotty after this runner up, runner up close, close decent with the yellow. No, we runners up. Runners up. Number one in the FedEx Cup. Number one in the world. Still gets me. Didn't see that coming. Still, still, you know, he had a grumpy moment on Friday with the grumpy moment today. He's grumpy all the time. He is always incredulous about a putt breaking away or not falling in that he like has to go back and stare at the cup below. I, he was, I'd say somewhat rude to the media on Friday when he was asked a question about what's going to happen. Like pertinent question. What do you make about live guys? Maybe becoming back or eligible or that tour folding. Speed was asked it. Speed gave a long answer is kind of, you know, all over the place and didn't have a like the fit as you would expect. They're thinking on their feet. And Scotty just does this like, like, I just got off the golf course. Like, it's a fair question. It's a fair question given the news and given his prominence and stature in the game. That said, like, he's always up there. He's always answering questions. I'm far beat for me. I certainly get grumpy every now and then and get short, you know, but my wife tells me get my head on that. You're like, Hey, like slaps me on the wrist. So that's like the, that's, that is the sort of the, the responsibility that comes with being number one, right? Is to maybe be tiger for all the stuff he had to ask or answer. Didn't get that. Like, I don't know. You didn't get that rude and dismissive. And this has kind of been a thing that's got, he's done and he caught some shit for it on Twitter. I don't know though. I'm trying to give him more grace. It's just the golden rule. Treat treat others the way you'd like to be treated yourself. I think so. I mean, at his core, that's like the issue with the way, you know, he's been acting in press conferences. Like some guys just trying to do his job. I think on balance, Scottie's actually been very often very good in press conferences. How about him having the trifecta of solo seconds? I think it's super impressive that all the seconds masters to Rory RBC, Heritage to fit see Cadillac to, to Cam Young. It's kind of nuts too. We just talked about like there's four guys and everybody else. And he's effectively been runner up to all of the, all the other three guys. The main, the main guys. Yeah. Yeah. I will say like there is something about like these guys, all of them have beaten them and they, that whether or I think that Scottie had been building something where he, he was very in a lot of players had. And I think he's still very much in players heads. That being said, like the fact that the, these guys have these positive memories bows well for them in the future when they are going up inevitably against Scottie Schaeffler. Yeah. I mean, it's crazy that you look at his year. First T3, T4, T12, T24, T22, second, second, second. And we're like, what's wrong with Scottie Schaeffler? I don't think I'm asking that yet, but sure. I guess there's like some scrutiny. There's an increased scrutiny based on the standards he set. Yeah. And it's comes with the, whether it's asking press conference questions, whether it's his responses to those, it's him get looking frustrated at times on the golf course with the pud or, you know, Ted or whatever it is. Yeah. I mean, look, Roy went through this last year, right after he won the Masters. He was maybe not the most pleasant in some of the press. Like every, like I just want to, I think Grace is warranted, but also you get a little criticism like you would from, from anybody if you're grumpy in their lives. So just felt like kind of a weird time to get frustrated with that question. Other, Adam Scott, other notes. Adam Scott's going to play a hundred majors in a row. He's already in the PGA. His win today, player, not win. His finish today on Dural, played the wrong ball on Thursday and then like slowly was working way back from a poor Thursday round. He's going to, he's going to play 100 straight majors. He should be well within the top 60 cutoff to play Shinnecock. So he'll get to 100 even. That will be the longest streak of consecutive majors since Jack Nicklaus. This is insane. Jack Nicklaus played from the 1957 US Open to 1998 US Open, 154 straight stuff. That's insane. Adam Scott will be a hundred. Rory, I was looking, I was like, is anybody in the Rory had the 15, the ankle roll or whatever it was for the 15 open? Otherwise that's like right in the middle of his soccer boy. Yeah, kind of in the middle of this. But, you know, it's, it's an incredible accomplishment and longevity. Adam had like an interesting quote. He's like, you know, I'd also like to be known for winning the US Open and just not being a participant and being there. Like it is, it's sort of like, it's a great streak, indicative of your longevity, but also he sort of was like, ah, rather win like two and play, not all of them, 100 in a row. I'd rather be on that side of it. But just a hat tip for sure to Adam Scott. What else do we have? Ricky, I'm just passing. This is not my stance. Got a text message that Ricky needs to get rid of the full blown orange. So this is anonymous sources. Did the first time he wore it in 10 years or something? People just in my text, the kid is such a bad, bad adult. Stop with the costume. You're great. I mean, that's what these are the texts. I'm getting not my personal opinion. Um, it was full blown orange. Did feel like of a prior era. Uh, that's it. Any other Cadillac championship thoughts, personal opinion on her. There is no personal opinion. I'm the president. I don't have one. I don't have one. Where do you feel about, how about George speed? I don't feel anything. And I don't think we need to talk about the way we crowbar, Jordan's feet that the people are tweeting about his sand safe. I'm just like, where, why, how are we at this point? There was apparently some law in slilliquy game about his equipment, new ball, new three wood, new this 40, 40 pits must have helped them out. Got them into the left dash. I think he, I think he is in the 40 ball. So keep an eye on that. Wasn't he like, he didn't have a good week. Well, I mean, he was, he was winning the world. I think he was winning on Thursday. I mean, okay. He was 48th and approached the green of like a 70 man field. I'll tell you who didn't have a good week. Who? Vroom, vroom boy and his McLaren irons. Tough scene. Tough scene for Justin Rose. He spent most of the week in DFL. But had a, had a decent, decent Sunday to T 65. David Lipsky and Chandler Blanche finished behind him. But other than that, that was it. Justin Rose tough debut from McLaren, but I'm making no judgments based on that sample. Yeah. I mean, who knows, maybe it would have finished the same spot with his old iron. That's true. Who can say? Um, all right, I think your sample size. We're not quite in on my territory yet. On my head, a full quarter, but he's kind of amazing. He's, if he did it again, similar, similar start. Like he was number one in the world when he signed with on my God. I, I just think back fondly to the hot on my era though, because it gave us the, the Arnold Palmer respect, out of respect for Mr. Palmer. Uh, if you want to be fitted into a, I don't know if they have McLaren at golf galaxy, not yet. They might be on their way. They got basically everything else though. They don't have on my, I don't think on my exists anymore, but they do have everything else. You go to golf. Yes. What? I think it's done. I don't think I was a thing in America. I'm a, I'm a still got a U S store website. Stunning performance since 1959. I'm a still around. Okay. Maybe they're a golf galaxy. You can go check out. I got a help on a collab. Oh my God. Report back. Hey, download that app. If you're listening out there, go, go to golf galaxy. Report back to us if they carry on my go check out. That's some odd. I'm interested to see if they have the Melbourne on my wait. Melbourne golf clubs. Yeah. Melba. Melbourne X on my men's premium set. All right. There we go. Golf galaxy. It's easy and convenient with in-app booking or stop by your local store to schedule. Bring your full bag of gamer clubs and our team of thoroughly trained fitters, their team, not art, their team of thoroughly trained fitters will optimize every club in your bag to get you playing your best golf. Maybe the numbers spit out on my, or maybe they spit out McLaren and you can put together a $6,000 set of bad irons, whatever it is. Go to golf galaxy, download the mobile app or visit that brick and mortar store and get fit today. All right. What else we got on the LPGA? Nellie. Talking about Cameron Young and these fitsy dominate Nellie dominant on the women's side. Cruises, four shot win. Her second in a row, obviously backing up the Chevron championship. She's been T2 or better in every single event this year. I think she went 60 straight holes without a bogey down at my Acoba. She was winning by seven at one point. I was like, just for content, you hit in the cave bunker. Just kind of go in the cave bunker and mess around. You're up seven. But she was all over the place on 18. Like hit a provisional and it was all over the place. It went into the crowd. Wins though. This is a, it's close to the best case scenario for the LPGA, I would think. A dominant player, like it's probably helps that it's for an American audience. That's an American player. So, you know, she's off. She's, she's shown this before. I guess this is the best golf you play. I don't know. I mean, I won. Was it five in a row last year? Maybe. So she's showing how she can get hot like this. You got, you're hitting, you know, major season, US women's opener Riviera, not that far off. So it's the best case scenario for the LPGA. Can they capitalize on TBD? Can we just golf capitalize on it? I don't know what capitalizing it on it is though. You know, what does she have to do? She won five times in a row and it didn't break through. That said, this, this start is incredible. Six, six starts in the year. First, first, second, second, second, first, first. Insane. Incredible. And like think about what we were talking about if, if, if Scotty had done this or. Yeah. Well, Scotty's kind of done this in recent years or close to it. Approximately. Yeah. Other notes from the Riviera Maya open at Mayakoba. Maria Jose Marin, who won the ANWA top 10s, top 10s in her pro or plane as a pro, which means she'd get into the Mizzouho America's open. But, but this is amateur life. She has finals next week. So can't go to use her top 10 exemption because she has finals. I'd almost just do, would you blow off the final turn pro go. Yeah. Just take the class over again or ask for like, Hey, can I take it in the next week? You know, I don't get out of that. Right. I don't school online or all these tests online now. Everything's remote. It feels like you pay more than ever for just remote schooling. It's insane. What do you think the chances of school being completely different by the time your youngest kid gets there? I mean, look, I have some anxiety about this. It's like, we're going to spend, Tuitions are insane right now. $90,000 and things like this for out of state or pub private or whatever. Like, isn't AI to like decreasing the value of a lot of these degrees and these roles at this point of we're going to be like right on the, right at the inflection point to get completely jammed by it to pay the most tuition for the, not yet knowing how worthless the degrees might be. It's how it would be. It would be befitting for our age demographic who's been completely jammed by society. Every chance we've gotten. It feels like that's, we're going to be the first ones to get just the only thing that's worked for our ages. We've been the appropriate age to be podcast hosts on the forefront of podcasting. You may know there's some new ads this week, by the way. So, you know, if you don't like them, skip them with the 15 second button. I'd encourage you to skip them. He's got a lot of kids. He's got to put through college. That is that money is not. No, absolutely not. We're never going to be living high on the log. It's about putting money into the company to do more cool shit, get more places. Trust us. Trust us. That's what it's all about. It's skip them for God's sakes. Skip them. It fast forward 30 minutes, 30 seconds, ripped through it. It is. I kid about BP with the college, but we do. Our aspirations are to continue to push forward, do more and higher quality stuff. I think if you've been paying attention to everything we've been doing at Friday, golf the last two years, I think we've really elevated a big thanks to like all of the talented people that we work with. Not us two idiots for sure, but all the talented people we work with. You might see a few more ads on here, but the goal is to use the ads to help us grow and do more stuff. We want to keep providing as good of coverage as we possibly can and continue to push forward on the quality of it. That cost money to make stuff and we just want to make more high quality stuff. Why we want to make more high quality stuff is first and foremost, it's like the relationship with the audience. We want that to like we care about that and we're deliberative about it. There's an issue we'll change, but our intentions are good here. Are there LPGA note and skip them? Skip them? No. I don't know if I'm supposed to be messaging that. Definitely not supposed to be messaging that, but we had on the back end a conversation that you would likely say that. So everybody's aware that the skip them. That I was going to say that? Yes. OK. We set that level pretty quick. People could come talk to me. We're allowed to discuss what categories are going to be played on here. We're going to slip an ED medicine one in every now and then. That was on the no fly list. Once every six months we'll slip one in. First person who hears it to email sgsgolf.com, I will give a fresh out of my own pocket B. Dratty Polo. All right. Other LPGA note, by the way. PTA. Did you see this? Alana Uriel. She took PTO. She works full time. Yeah, I saw that now. Goes in like just figures she's going to miss the cut and hang out at my Acoba. Plays well. Plays decent. But she's gets a paycheck. Yeah. Gets a gets a paycheck. But double paycheck week. Yeah. PTO. There we go. On the DP World Tour. That's enough of the Riviera Maya. On the DP World Tour. Michael, the one and only Michael Lindbergh, not Michael Jordan, Michael Lindbergh. I thought you were going to go with Michael Block because we didn't talk about the PGA pros, the core bridge financial team and Blocky sticking it to all the haters. He's inevitable. He's incredible. Just a showman. Just a total showman. He stuck it to the haters. Hi, haters. No, no. No way. He's going to be an aronomic. He's going to be an aronomic. So can't. All right. Did it go in? He outlasted Don Ray. He beat Don Ray. Ray may not be there. Blocky will be there. I love it. I think, honestly, might have to send PJ to Augusta Ranch to look for Don. I think Don fled the ranch like a couple of years ago when he got elected. I think he's actually, I think he lives in South Carolina. Yes. I think he's in the coastal area. Well, it's a shorter flight for PJ. I was more for the narrative last year announcing that at the press conference. Michael Lindbergh. I've made multiple requests to the PGA for Don for lunch with the boys. They just, they haven't even, they haven't even, you know, they don't even acknowledge the request now. They don't even acknowledge the request. Yeah. They don't say yes or no. They just change the subject. I got a scoop from a listener who spoke to Don recently within the last couple of weeks and said that Don wants to do lunch with the boys, but he's being muzzled by no way. He's aware of lunch with the boys. He's aware and thinks this is all a big misunderstanding and can't wait until he's allowed to talk to us. Clear the air. I love that. I want, I wanted to come clear the air with you guys. Okay. That's great. Michael Lindbergh will be at the PGA. I know his golf is the engine of good. Yeah. Yeah. Winning the Turkish Airlines open. Bumblebee was terrible down there. Almost DFL. Why are you going to run at Bumblebee? Cause you keep bringing them up. I have to indulge your Bumblebee minute every week. I've just tell, I've given you an update on it. I feel like people probably don't know who the Bumblebee is. He's Sullivan. Look at the gentleman in training. Good finish for him. It's the Cubscavals. Thank you for using the updated nomenclature there. Tied with DVD player. I was going to start reading the leaderboard and I said, you know what, we better move on. The great one, T13. He's back where he needs to be, Mateo. Just kind of making quality strikes less than quality event. Can I ask a question? What? Every week when we get notable through the DP world tour, MJ DeFi is one. I was, I don't know. I don't know. Luckily not a friendly fella. Last but not least. The Bumblebee at least made the cut. Well, yeah, that's the region's tradition. PJ, come on in here. Mosey on in. Another major. Another stew rumble to the cross. Although, Hendy, Hendy tried to do his best golden, golden tempo. The force coming around on the outside and you push them there at the end. But Scott Hend, you want to talk about. Holds off. Invinibility. I mean, Stu Sink is just, he's rocking them up. Andy, you asked him in February why, why didn't it happen immediately? I think we're in a floodgate situation. Hard to say not. I mean, should have won last week. Should be three wins a row, two majors in the last three weeks. Just, I mean, this is domination. And you, you think such a misallocation of resources by Jim Furrick, naming him a vice captain when. Why? How, well, how can you say that the guy that wins every week isn't one of the best American golfers? Oh, I see what you're saying. I mean, we got a long way to go. I'm just saying. Does this get them into anything? Uh, no, not for the region. I mean, he's in the PGA next year now. The region is such a joke. I can't believe it's a major. Uh, well, Joseph, if I were discussing potentially, do we do lunch at the regions next year to get in with the SEC football coaches? Cabal. I'll go to that because they all go. Yeah. We got to get lunch with the boys out on the road more. Yeah. There was a deal for the PGA. I don't know if it came through that we will get it. We'll get them out on the road. You send them to more PGS, maybe two mainstream. We got to send them to regions like events, maybe the Indian open. How do we get, we could do the, what about the South Dakota? Oh, the mini ha ha event there. Yeah. Whatever. There's a gentleman that wanted to get them out, get PGA out for that one. God, there can't be a cheap flight getting there. The business Pete might have a connection. Can't be cheap to get the South Dakota. I mean, if you're flu, I mean, New York flies everywhere. Yeah. But not for cheap. I don't think Charlie. We is top five at the regions. I think that's you can drive up from Omaha. Oh, that's not that far. Oh, I mean, PJ driving it is. Yeah. I mean, with me driving, it might take less. That's actually nonstop. There's nonstop flights from, uh, from New York to Omaha. Oh, yeah. Yeah. So that's a real place to fly and bus. This is the only one. Our Delta, no Delta. PJ's got Delta. He's a Delta boy. Did you see this Asian tour story by Ryan French popularized and I think flushing it, all out riots. They need security between an entourage and family, trying to attack certain rules officials and then players who called, you know, were part of the ruling. This, this guy, uh, freak. I forgot his name in her on the Korea tour, a co-sanction. Uh, event between the Korean tour and the Asian tour. Uh, the guy hits it out of bounds. Guy hits it out of bounds. Allegedly hits a provisional. Uh, the four caddy and Marshall picks the ball up, hands it to another caddy who picks it up. It's out of bounds, but before he could get there, they freak out. Like I didn't get to get there. I didn't get to approach it and determine it was out of bounds. Like this whole entourage and family were all there. They determined, you know, it was probably out of bounds. This is in white her. Um, so they've got a provisional in play rules. Official come and say, just play it. Just play the provisional. Sorry to get there as if you're lying one. They don't correct it. This is the ruling. The guy is plus. So he's neither out of bounds nor really playing the provisional. So he's just playing this as a new drive. Well, it's like a mulligan, a mulligan, essentially he plays it in. He ends up tied for first would be in a playoff. They finally decide the next day, Sunday, go back and say, Oh, by the way, that was an OB ball. You're too short of actually being in the playoff. All hell broke loose. They were apparently threatening this other playing partner, the caddy. This is one of the more insane store like rule stories I've heard where you know, they just say, just play your provisional if, is if your ball is in play, just regarding the original tee shot, which was found to be out of bounds, maybe not in the best process of being like ruled OB, like, but out of bounds. And they'd never, like people have never heard of this before. This is Monday Q and flushing it. One player told flushing it. It's effing BS. He basically got a mulligan. Now they've rec, they corrected this by Sunday night. As he put it out to make the playoff, they corrected it. Nevermind. To next day. Um, but then Alligator's golf advice. It is a good golf advice. I mean, if this happens at the club championship where the member gets your, your screaming, bloody murder, right? I mean, you're losing your mind even for low stakes things like that. Whenever I hear the word club championship now, I just think of that Australian video where the guy goes, this is a club championships. Then they get there are all these allocations to Korean players and Korea events get favorable rulings. This is a quote. The floor you just know that in Korea, this is from another player. Korean players are going to be allowed to cheat, which feels like, you know, casting a pretty wide, you know, blanket on, uh, maybe some misapplications of the rules or maybe some, you know, players without the best intentions, but you know, casting as per the whole arrangement. I did hear similarly though for that one event in China on the DP world tour with no cameras. They were worried about that. I just think that's going a little too far. Um, but a crazy story nonetheless with an entourage. Don't hear about that much golfers entourage is having to be restrained by security as they go after rules officials and playing partners and playing partners. Caddy's, uh, all right. I think that does it for this Monday episode of the shot. That's getting to 40 minutes. We could have just kept going. Yeah, we could. We can always just keep going. We had a couple of side tracks there. Uh, everybody enjoy your Mondays. We'll be back. Be back with you on Wednesday. Hey, it's another signature event. No, Scotty, but Rory's back. I assume I didn't look at the whole fits, fits his back. Yeah. He's still the president of Eidra. Who? Rory. He's not the prince anymore. I don't think so. I don't think so. Who do you think would be in the, in the castle of Eidra? It's a good question. Serve this time. I don't know. Seems like got a lot of internal things to sort out. Feels like it's just. The cat, Patrick Cantley take over the castle. That's the name I was thinking in my head, but I did. It seems like sort of an internal war. Like there's five families are battling. Browns up some money to buy the castle. He could be in control of this whole thing by the end of the week. Yeah. You wonder. I don't know that there's, there's, there's, they're kind of the families might be warned to see who's going to become the prince or the siblings are at war. Uh, man, it's too bad you don't watch, uh, you know, you never watched, uh, Game of Thrones. I mean, I figured there was some sort of reference in there. I almost threw out, but I, I know I didn't watch the dragon show. I did go to a movie this weekend. First movie I've been. Can't let it be like Joffrey. What do you think about that? Peach. PJ, did you watch this dragon show? No, I got nothing for you. I'm, I'm vague. I mean, I know who Joffrey is. Like I'm, I'm vaguely aware of the universe, but I haven't watched it. PJ's grinding out like mid-July Mets games. He's not watching some dragon show. Yeah, man. I don't have, I enjoyed the scrubs reboot. That was the last thing I watched. Rob's reboot. Yeah, it just ended. They got a season two though, so we're back. Peach, the, the bowling ball just keeps hitting. Ah, he does. I mean, the Cubs just keep hitting. I activated PCA like the winner soldier. The bowling ball just keeps hitting. I can't wait for some summer Cubs baseball. I'm just happy we were able to record this before James Harden, Game 7 experience. So. That's true. You got that coming up. Everyone enjoy the prayers. Enjoy your Cubs baseball. So I'm not looking forward to that. It's what I wrote out. Enjoy. Enjoy your Mondays. We will talk to you on Wednesday. Yeah.
