I'm actually better at reading and writing because Listening to someone with all these different accents in our community Yeah, it can be challenging for a widow like me and As much as I want to hear all these different ways of Saying it reading and writing is so much better because I can see it laid out in front of me Yeah, I can think about it I have friends that speak perfect Greek cannot read it cannot write down a word of it So there's there's all these different levels of yeah, you understand you understand perfectly can't speak it back You can speak it you can't read it you can't write it, but it doesn't matter now because now we got Instagram What's going down in H-town I'm a ruler show with Eric 104.1 KRB It is brought to you by easy fiber Phil Garner three-time All-Star who managed our Houston Astros to the 2005 pennant passed away at the age of 76 It was he was surrounded by his family and they said he passed away peacefully After a two-plus year battle of pain-created cancer Phil never lost his signature spark of life He was so well known for his love of baseball, which was His until the end special thanks the Houston Medical Center MD Anderson Baylor St. Luke's and all the doctors and nurses for their excellent care and support of Phil Garner he was diagnosed back in February of 2024 He did numerous radiation and chemotherapy treatments for more than two years the Astros celebrated him One last time when he threw out the first pitch before a game back in April of 2025 It was his 76 birthday and so he's just just is he just missing his brother. I must have just missed it Yeah, he's just missing his 77 birthday The Astros released a statement Jim Cranes said on behalf of the Astros Whitney and I send out our heartfelt condolences to Phil's wife Carol and their children to his many friends fans and admirers Phil Garner's contribution to the Houston Astros the city of Houston into the game of baseball Will not be forgotten. He was competitive. He was honest He told you the truth and he made you accountable all the great things that leaders do said hollow-famer first baseman Jeff Bagwell Now for those that don't remember the days of the 2005 World Series run That's when I was introduced to the stress ball called baseball He got him right there just they got a buzz you know buzz saw the White Sox pitching was just incredible and All those Everything was close. It was not like anything was a you know 12 to 2 type I know but what's like 3 to 2 the W is the W that goes down on the book Yeah, doesn't matter how close it was it was a not a W, right? Yeah, and I mean the Cardinals That's all that was the world series. That was our monkey our back was the Cardinals You didn't realize that Milo Hamilton. I didn't know all of Milo Hamilton's legendary career, but he's the one that gave That gave Phil Gardner his nickname scrap iron because he was when they were a really Pittsburgh pirates There's real scrappy And he would like die for anything and didn't care it was Hall of Fame announcer Milo Halton gave him Scrap iron they were the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 70s and he said he saw this young third baseman knocking down All these balls always with dirt in his uniform and notice that nothing seemed to bother him He was so tough as scrap iron boy. Was he? Phil Gardner rest in peace Well, we've done this segment a long time. We gotta do look at me now.
