Summary

Host Ross Uglum provides a detailed scouting breakdown of Iowa offensive lineman Jennings Dunker, analyzing his strengths in run blocking and competitive drive while identifying concerns about his pass protection footwork and positional versatility. Uglum concludes Dunker is an excellent cultural fit for the Packers but may be overvalued at pick 52 versus pick 84.

Insights
  • Iowa's offensive line program has proven track record of producing NFL-caliber players, making school-based scouting a valid strategy when applied positively
  • Dunker's elite competitive intensity and motor will make him a fan favorite regardless of on-field performance level, creating marketing and engagement value
  • Positional versatility concerns (tackle vs. guard vs. center) could limit draft value if he lacks the specific physical tools for any single position
  • Shorter-stature offensive linemen require exceptional pad level technique to succeed at tackle; Dunker's pad level inconsistency is a measurable concern
  • Strong run-blocking ability and pass-protection limitations suggest Dunker may be best suited as a guard, reducing his positional flexibility value
Trends
School-based scouting bias validation: Ohio State receivers, LSU DBs, Georgia DL, Iowa OL consistently produce NFL talentPhysical profile specialization: Shorter OL prospects (6'4") need elite technique to play tackle; versatility becomes liability if lacking position-specific toolsCultural fit and fan engagement as draft value multiplier: personality and intensity drive fan loyalty independent of performanceIowa offensive line dominance: multiple recent draft picks (Linderbaum, Balaga, Worf, Yanda) establishing program as elite pipelinePass protection footwork vs. run blocking dichotomy: scouts increasingly differentiating between forward and backward movement capabilities

Welcome back to the Daily Draft. I am the host of the show on the publisher of Pack Report, Ross Uglum. And today we are breaking down one of the more popular I don't know if it's popular Packers picks because his consensus ranking probably jives more with a draft choice. Most fans probably don't want the Packers using on an offensive lineman. But from a cultural fit, Iowa offensive lineman Jennings Dunker is one of the more popular guys. And I understand it and we're going to break him down today because he's interesting. Number one doesn't really need to be said. Iowa is just an unbelievable NFL offensive line factory. They're going to have a ton of guys off of this current offensive line drafted. Tyler Linderbaum just became the highest paid center of all time. I believe that they gave the Green Bay Packers what in my opinion will be a Packers Hall of Famer and Brian Balaga starting right tackle on the last Super Bowl team. Certainly Tristan Worf's got paid paid. Marshall Yanda, like just dogs, just dogs coming out of that Iowa offensive line room and unbelievable NFL football players. So it, you know, I say not to helmet scout and that's, I get that, but when a school, I mean that more in a negative way. Helmet scouting to the positive, I think does work. Like guess what? Drafting Ohio statewide receivers is cool. Drafting LSU defensive backs is cool. Drafting Georgia defensive linemen is cool. Like that's fine. Drafting Iowa offensive linemen is cool. Good versatile NFL frame, right? Fits in what Green Bay likes. He's got that sort of tackle, sort of guard type of body where he's going to be okay helping you at both. Good athlete, excellent change of direction skills, moves well. And more, if this makes sense, more moving forward than moving back. Like I have more questions about him moving backwards in Pass Pro than I have him moving forwards and run blocking, if that makes sense to what you guys are thinking. Heavy hands, especially in the run game. Pops people, moves people does a really, really good job of displacing defensive linemen, especially if he was playing tackle and getting his hands on college sized defensive ends. I mean, he shocks folks. Don't know how much that would necessarily translate if he had to move inside and start trying to move around 315 pound people at defensive tackle. But you like seeing what you like seeing and I like seeing that. He's a finisher with a high motor and a high competitive spirit. That applies number one to football and number two. I mean, he's just going to be, he already was going to be a fan favorite, but I mean, that kind of thing. It'll get the coaches to like him. It'll get the fans to like him and not a dirty player, not somebody's going to draw a 15 yard penalty, but like just tries his ass off. And you really like to see that plays against high level, played against high level competitions as a tackle in the big 10. So has passed rush reps against, you know, rushers at Ohio State and rushers at Oregon and rushers, right? Guy like Morrisers at Michigan dudes that are in the league. Even if he doesn't have kicking inside, he's shown that he cannot die at tackle, which is always a plus. Anchors well fights throughout the rep doesn't very few quick losses, right? People complained about Rashawn Gary with the lack of quick pressures. Well, Jennings, Dunker has a loss, a lack of quick losses. Give up sack. Yeah, I think right, but give up pressures. It happens, but it doesn't happen quickly. He's fighter. He's competitive through the rep. And like I said, doesn't lose early. And, and you can't talk about the positives with Jennings Dunker, unless you talk about his hair. Grade A, Class A, Moulay, the mullet is fantastic. Again, like this stuff is is 1% of the eval. If it's not even just a joke, but like fans will love him. And if he plays even above average football, he'll be a folk hero. I mean, he just culturally what, you know, it's like my guy Cody Muck from NDSU giant, you know, waving redheaded hair missing his two front teeth. He's a legend in Tampa. And, and I think Dunker has some Cody Muck vibes to him. Guys, today's episode is brought to you by the Green Bay Draft Guide. Use promo code draft for 10% off of that guide. You know, 225, 230 full write ups ranking of 300 guys. Packers fits done by actual Packers writers. My feature article, Jacob Westendorff's feature article, like it's, it's worth your money. It's the best Packers specific draft guide on the market. And it's a great way to support us becoming a Packer Report VIP, which there's a link below is a great way to support us as well. Kahn's, I don't think he has NFL as soon as he's a good mover, he doesn't have NFL tackle, feed and fluidity in the way that he mirrors pass rushers. I think he's a little heavy footed. I think he's a guard is what I think doesn't do a great job. But if he's going to be a guard, this is another part of the Kahn's doesn't do a great job of recognizing twists and stunts or even if he does recognize them, I don't know that he's necessarily got those feet to, to be able to absorb and do a good job of fighting those off. I think, I think he might be best suited as a guard at the next level, but then I don't know of any center versatility. I don't know how excited teams would be to play him at center. So maybe if he's a left guard, right guard only, that would worry some teams. But if he's a left guard, right guard only that can get you out of a game at right tackle. That's another thing. That's another added level versatility and another added level of value. Pad level is not always the greatest, especially for a guy shorter than six, five, you know, he's six, four and a lot of change. You would hope that a guy playing tackle would be at that height, you know, who's not six, six, six foot, seven, six foot eight. Like, I think you would want to see better pad level than, you know, I was joking. Shorter guys have natural pad level. And, and so I'd like to see that a little bit more from Dr. Cause like he said, strong hands, but actually driving and moving guys, I think he's got to get a little lower, just my opinion on that one. Um, he could be more consistent with his hand placement, very aggressive, uh, violent player, but sometimes the, the strike is inaccurate, like where he places his hands when he, when he, when he punches and then I think the ultimate con or just like what, what keeps him out of my top 50 is I think could be kind of a jack of all trades, master of none type prospect. You, you could talk to yourself and like, oh, maybe we could put him at right tack or maybe you could put him at right guard, but you know, if he's doesn't have the feet for tackle and doesn't have the strength for guard, he could just end up as an offensive line depth piece. And, and I don't want to spend a top 75, 80 pick on an offensive line depth piece. He could prove me not wrong, because I think I'm like 66 or something like that. And I think he can, um, be a decent starting guard, but just lacks that versatility. Packers fit. He's as tier one as tier one gets, right? He's that slightly shorter, versatile tackle type, um, did great on the agility drills. The Packers love their Iowa Hawkeyes. He was be a great fit culturally, just with what Packers fans would think of him, but, but also his tenacity, his intensity, the way he plays the game. I think any fan boys, fan base, excuse me, is going to enjoy that. His consensus rank is just a hair below their first pick in round two. I would like him a lot better as the pick at 84. Then I certainly would, um, in at 52, but he's a super packer. And then that's, you know, with tier one fit that, that I think will fit culturally or fit with the team. I call it a super packer. He's a super packer. I think Jennings, Duncan, be a little rich for me at 52 would love the pick at 84. And, uh, I think there's a decent chance. Not, I mean, it's still, you know, a seven in 256 shot. But, uh, man, I really, really like watching this young kid play. Guys, thanks so much for watching or listening.
