We have the ruler show with Eric, featuring Special K and Sam. How would you like to go on a trip for free? Well, you have a chance to do that, and it would be going to New York City or to London, you and your guests, to see Harry Styles, the ultimate concert experience. Now, text the national keyword, kiss, to 95819. The word is kiss. The number is, I mean, the text number is 95819. And maybe you'll have a shot at that trip. After Alex won Ordinary, we are gonna go through some of the phrases that you might be saying that automatically ages over 30. Yeah, your opinion. You know, when you're over 30, you have a lot of opinions. Well, by these, you know, people hearing these opinions, it's like, well, yeah, okay, boomer. I can tell your age, but what you said? Settle down there. And sorry that a boomer is already, is only 30 years old, but to a 21 year old, you are a boomer. Yep, doesn't matter. We'll discuss it next on the Ruler Show with Eric in 104.1 K-R-V-E. Houston, it's been a very busy day. If you're just tuning in to the Ruler Show there for the first time today. It would be bad, you missed out. You've missed the mystery box with Ladi. You've missed Rapid Fire Quiz, special K won the quiz. Good job, K. And now we know next week's mystery box will be a llama day, which somebody said, is it a llama a day? No, no, but that's close. That's a good way to kind of spell it. A llama day answers the calls and he snorts when he's nervous. Should we have a nickname there? A snorty? No, no, he does not like that one. Anyway, we've had a lot of it. We've had the highs and lows of the show today. And actually there was at 720, we had a good conversation about. Yes, a camp mystic and the trial that's happening. And we wanted to take people's calls, see how they feel about the families that want it to reopen versus the ones that don't want to reopen. Go back to the podcast, listen to that, because a lot of people were angry at the two people that called saying that they should keep it open. The reasons why. So a lot of anger on that one. And the trial is about the Eastland, it's criminal charges against the Eastland family not doing the right thing to save the girls that drowned and died and were swept away. And it's not about, really it is about it opening, but for the people that are in it, they're saying should the Eastlands be the ones that still have it to reopen? So there's a lot there. It'll be in our 7 o'clock hour podcast. Now, a lot of you are still hanging out with us because we were just chatting behind the scenes and Eric was talking about these 30 plus year old things that you would say. I saw this on Reddit, what's an opinion that instantly says you're over 30? So if you say these things, people know, yeah, you're over 30. Like have I told you guys how much I love my air fryer? Yeah. I do love my air fryer. I got this awesome appliance at Target. Let me tell you about it. That's you to a T. Yeah, 100%. Like a couple years ago, I feel like that's all you talked about. I love that air fryer. That in you, You know what? That in you, what's it called, right? Sue Vane? Oh, the Sue V. The Sue V. The Sue Vane? Whatever, that's a Vane. That thing. I do have that thing, I haven't used that thing in like, The Sue V. You get obsessed with things. And then he gives them to you or Kevin. I didn't get an air fryer yet. But I'll keep taking the boost. That is true. I have an air fryer because of you, Eric. You talked about the air fryer's, you praised it so much. I was like, And now I can't go without. This opinion, or it's what saying people say. Have I told you guys how much I love Costco? No. Yeah, you don't hear 20 year old. But you actually says those words. Mostly it's like, Hey, you like this shirt? I got it at Costco. You'd never believe it. Like I said, I bought a shirt there once and then I wore it the next day. And then three days later, I went to Costco again and the guy going, the person that works there, I had the same shirt like I'm out. Cause everyone has the shirt. Oh, cause they got it at Costco. I know. Got it at Costco. There's nothing worse than that. That's why I don't go to Old Navy. Everyone has the Old Navy shirts. Well, there was a period in our history. I've been in Old Navy in like 15 years. If you look at our radio history as a show, there were many times where Eric is wearing the American flag Old Navy shirt that then other people would come here and they were also wearing that shirt. It'd be Jay Rodriguez and Nooni. We all have the same shirt one day. Same stripe, same shirt. And now you wear your Costco outfits. You're Kirkland. This one is a true religion, baby. And Costco had a sale. Usually it's 25 bucks a shirt, but you get five or 50 bucks. Five. Oh, or four. That's a whole week's worth of Costco. Yeah. What else? You never go wrong with the Costco. Pluto is a planet. If you have that opinion that you think it's a planet. Still a planet. You're over 30. These e-bikes are out of control. They're a menace to society. That's an over 30 phrase. I'm that way with those stupid-the-scooters that people have in like Austin and downtown. I'm like, you're just waiting to die. Okay, can I ask you all this? You're gonna get hurt. Have you seen this? Don't go on those things. Most of them, they're drunk. The worst way to get hit in traffic is when somebody's coming out of a driveway and there's double lanes of traffic and this one is really congested, but the other one is empty. So when they let you in and you go straight, y'all, that happened to me yesterday and who came along on an electric? What was it? It's called, it's not any bike. It's not any scooter. Is it a dirt bike? It's just one wheel. Oh wait. Where his feet are. Oh yeah, yeah, that thing, yeah. What is that thing called? I don't know what it's called. Some of those can go like 70 miles an hour. I could have killed that man. I could have killed that man. There's a guy that was on the highway. It's like a unicycle, but it's like a unisub. It's like an automated uni-wheel and he was wearing a motorcycle helmet and he's just standing on it. It's a big, like, think in the middle is a big car. It's a huge fat wheel. And I'm like, what the hell is this? It could have killed you, dude. There's two kinds of them. One of them looks like a seesaw. The other one looks like one wheel that you stand on each side of it. That's right, that's what he was on. The big fat wheel. They're calling it a unicycle. Yeah. In motion electric unicycle. It just looks like death. It's low to the ground. It's low to the ground. I don't know how, that guy loses his balance. He's dead, he falls into a car. Exactly. Good for, good for. Can you see these ones that I've pulled up over here? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Didn't you have one at your house, Kev? Or is that the? No, I had one where they had two wheels and you lean forward and backwards. And it will. Kind of like a Segway type. Yeah, it's a mini Segway. And one last one. My renter's left. Would you say this? Yes, I want the paper receipt. I know you can't have my email address. That you're over there. Oh, yeah. That's true. Yes. Does this purchase require an email? Yeah. Okay, bye-bye. Yep, I don't want to give you my email. Here's one you don't hear anymore. Hey man, nice roller blades. Yeah, they were in the 90s. And now, where are they at? Yeah. Are they in like? Another quads are back. Oh, I do have quads. Third World country, like they did T-shirts from Super Bowls. Who has these roller blades everywhere? They're all like, where'd they all go? At Kev-Hass. Kev-Hass, though. Yeah, well, they're rough riding. Can you take those to the roller rink? Or no, you have to have the right one. You can do either one. You can do either one. It's fine. It's just like if you go ice skating, you can bring your own ice skates. You can? Yes. Never done that. Cool ice skates, bro. I'm a little 30. You place those up yourself or you have your mom do it. Yeah. Hey, leap her out of there. The next digital video will be, somebody's trying to be on roller blades in the electric unicycle. They told it. No, thank you. Coming up next, we're gonna put a little spotlight on someone who's worked behind the scenes and on our show for a long time. And today is her last day. Ooh. Oh, the adventures of working here for free in college versus being a very important part of the fabric here. And she's moving on to the next frontier. We'll talk to her next and you'll see who, if you remember her too on our show, The Ruler Show with Eric and K.R.B.E. The countdown is on for the 2026 NFL Draft presented by Bud Lighting. With three whole hours of nonstop hit music every weekday at 9.45, 11.45, and 3.45. Yo, go hit them. And now, the Rula Show with Eric on KRDE. All right, my friends, here on the Rula Show with Eric, we have had a variety of people behind the scenes that helped make the show happen. And for many, many years before stipulations came into play after COVID, we had a lot of interns that would come here for college credit. And we learned so much about different personalities. It was fun. It was great. I mean, days of mumbles, and Ruben, and Adrian, and Caroline, and so many different personalities that came through here. And a lot of the kids, the college kids, that were here for their college credit ended up moving on and getting into some form of entertainment or media, whether it was digital media, or it was like a photography, videography. Chris, he's doing movies. Yes. Mumbles is killing it in the videography world with drones. Especially for real estate people, like if you need him. He's awesome. He'll still use you. I think it was at Mumbles Radio still. I don't know if you changed it or not. I think it is still Mumbles Radio. But if you're looking, like, say, your real estate agent or something, or you need somebody with his drones and his knowledge, hire him. Yeah. Mumbles Film Edit. There you go. Mumbles Film Edit. He was part of our show for so many years. So one of our interns that came in here, they always bring us something different. And this specific intern is the one that really showed me the ways of the quince. Quinceanera. Oh, yeah. She brought her quinceanera dress in here, and I wore it the whole show. It's Maria. Hi, Maria. Hi. So Maria was our intern. You were 21. Where were you going to school? I was going to like 22. I was going to Houston Christian University. OK, yes. And you had one or two semesters? I had two semesters. HBU. Get a little closer to the mic there. I entered for two semesters. OK, that was when it was loud still, because then they got real locked down on us. And they're like, these interns are still your interns? It's supposed to be one semester at a time. It's 35 now. So when you were our intern, I remember, like, the iconic moment for you in my head when I remember different interns is Eric made you cry on your last day as an intern. Sorry about that. He did. He did answer a question for it. That's what he wanted to do. I was trying to help you. Yeah, you were trying to help me. And it did. Because you have to have, like, you're going to graduate. You have to have direction, right? I was like, Trina, you need help. In that moment, it didn't help when she was crying. Yeah, it didn't help. But it made you reavail away and go, that guy's actually smart. Correct. So Maria, take us through. When you were our intern and you finished with us, you did not get hired on right away at KRBE, right? No. What was your next step before you came out? I was working at a car dealership. And I one day just quit. And I didn't want to work there anymore. Because you missed us so much? Sure. And I was applying to jobs on LinkedIn. And I came across Cumulus Media. But it didn't click to me because I was just a massive applying to a lot of jobs. And I remember a special case and me an email. He's like, hey, you would be so great for this. And I clicked it. I was like, oh, I already applied to this. I didn't know you had for Cumulus. That's cute. It didn't click. And Kevin put in a good word for me with Denise. Yeah, who's our HR? And also Maria, during this time, during our internship, during afterwards, she would watch my puppy dogs in my house for weeks at a time. Oh, so that's good. You have that connection still. Yes. Became intimately familiar with my house with the pool. The intro parties or anything? Oh, no. That like, mumbles. She watched other people throw parties. So then what was the original? She threw Kiki's. There's more of a Kiki. What was the original first full-time job here? Was it the receptionist or something else? It was the receptionist. OK. But the receptionist is so much more than just what you think a receptionist would be Houston. It's not just like, hi, KRBE. Where can I direct your call? It's not that. It's part of that. But there's a lot more to it. There's a lot more. You have lots of winner interaction, promotional interaction. Sales. Sales interaction. I work with everybody, basically. Every single department in radio, you work with everybody. And I got to give you props, Maria, because over the years of being here now, 20 years this July, I'll be here 20. The this era, 20 years were hit in July. We've seen a lot of receptionists for KRBE. But you're the one that I know for sure went further than just what the initial receptionist job was. I mean, you want to be very dependent on you behind the scenes. Yeah. You're a big deal. Yep. Yeah. And that's why she's moved up. And moved on. She's moved up. Yes. Are you going to miss us? Of course. I've been here for eight years. And so like, it's so crazy to me because in my 20s, yeah. And I turned 30 on Saturday. So it's like. Happy birthday. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. So it's it's like a very like overwhelming feeling. It's like bittersweet. Like I've been here in my 20s and now I'm going to be 30 somewhere else. Or like Hamilton when the king came out, you'll be back. I actually was listening to the Hamilton Trail. Yeah. See? That could be you. It's a good luck. Here, just tuning into the Rulishah with Eric. We're talking to Maria. She's one of our colleagues behind the scenes, but she started out as one of our interns. And it's a super important lesson to anybody listening who thinks getting your foot in the door doesn't really work anymore to get you further on because it did. In anything. You if you want something and the main job you want isn't available, maybe take something else behind the scenes and it'll grow into that job that you want. And I will tell people that when you're young too, if I mean a lot of times they don't want to make six figures. Like that's not the real world. No. And let's just oil and gas. Yeah. Let's just oil and gas. Yeah, I'm especially right now. They're making this money. Yeah. I'm just saying what you did, you worked here for free, you worked your butt off, and you went after what you wanted. And I'm proud of you. Oh, thank you. And you got people to trust you that you could handle more responsibility and stuff. So good for you, Maria. And how are you going to celebrate your birthday? I will be going to Coachella. Wow. I will be seeing Justin Bieber. I'll be saying Justin Bieber without telling you I'm under 30. I will be seeing Justin Bieber on my 30th birthday. That's your man. That's my man. That's my man. How did you think? I loved your opinion. I loved it. I loved the YouTube thing. I loved it. I loved it. But he could have went out there and just sing nursery songs and forwarded and you would be like. No, honestly, that's more. Exactly. Exactly. I love the performance. It's very like. Are you going to bring your laptop in case his dies? Yeah. Laptops are not allowed at Coachella. I tried. Oh, you tried. Maria's stepdad is an incredible plumber. And she introduced me to him. Thank you for introducing me to Miguel. He's an incredible plumber. He saved my butt many a times. He and his team tunneled underneath of my house and completely rated all of our sewage plumbing in a last minute fix. And Maria was right there helping me. Because I speak enough Spanish, but not plumbing Spanish. There are some words that no entendee. So thank you so much for that as well. And I'm so proud of you for moving on within the media landscape. You're going to stay in this industry. And when I see a billboard that's upside down, I'm going to blame you. It won't be me trust. It won't be me trust. Actually, there is a guy that has one. There's a couple of them intentionally. I can't read it. I don't even know what it says. Maria, I have a question for you. You've been here for eight years. You know these people inside and out. I'm pretty much one of the newest people to work here. Do you have any advice for me? We don't have 12 hours or anything. Do you have any advice? Or piece of advice? Hey, I don't know. You just put me on the spot. Nothing she can say on there. Probably. Oh, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Where are you put in the mystery box today? I think everybody has different personalities. Not just here, but everywhere, like every single department. You just have to learn how to work with everybody. To navigate their personalities. Yeah, navigate their personalities. Oh, good one. Thank you for laughing. So Maria, what is the next field that you're going into? I am going into print media, which will be billboards. I will be the sales assistant there. OK. I'm so excited. What is a core memory for you in your 20s working at KRBE? What's a core memory? An experience that you got from me. Hang on the bus or the rodeo with us? Oh, that. Meeting Lizzo this year, the 15 dress. There's so many. I got to meet Louis Tomlinson from One Direction. He was up here. Yeah, like the road shows. And so fun. Those were so fun. Yeah, like the Christmas parties and just hanging out with everybody here. That's good. Well, we love you, Maria. I'm so proud of you. You'll be proud because there's not one person here that can say a bad thing about you. Oh, I mean, everyone just dependable. Yeah, girl, your smile. You're the perfect person to be the first person people see. Yeah, and you get to see people when I guess they're at their happiest in the day. They've won something and they come to you to shake you down to get it. And real quick, this is really funny text because I know everyone's going through something different every day and we bring them smiles. This person texted, I'm having a not so great morning and I need someone else to have a not so great morning. So, Sam, I don't put the cart back in the parking lot deck space when I'm with my kids. Yeah, I already texted them. You're blocked. Yeah, I was like, you're dead. I hope you have a worse day. I'm totally kidding. I did not say that. I just said I get it. The cart to the cart section in the parking lot. If the kids are with me. What am I biggest? X. Yeah, but it's hot out. It's like 100 degrees. Like, return the cart. Ladies with kids. So, Maria, you'll remember that when you're in a parking lot. I always return. Exactly. Thank you, Maria. Good girl. She doesn't have two dollars hanging on her with a Papu's and a newborn. That is true. That's true. True. If you have that someday, you'll know it's just over. She's been hanging out with Irvin that did our social media back last year. Yeah, Coachella. At Coachella, yeah. Of course, he's going. I leave tomorrow. I figure he's there for two weeks. Just a whole time. I'm just staying in a tent even though there's no shows going on in the morning. Well, happy birthday, Maria. Thank you. I hope Justin Bieber fulfills all your dreams at Coachella. Maybe he'll bring up a band or something. I'm not sure who we will bring up. You weren't here when he came to Sweden on a four-right. No, I was not. That's way before your time. Yeah, that was way before your time. At our Christmas show. Was it you and I? You and I? You and I? Yeah, yeah. Interviewed him upstairs? He had a broken leg. Yes, he was in a boot. Oh, wow. I'll leave. No, George, please. Don't start. Everybody's already going to make me cry. Please stop. Let's go. We have two more minutes to get some tears. You have two minutes. Yeah, yeah. We have tears. Is there going to be like some happy hour at LTM or something for you today? We're just going to margaritas? I don't know. Nobody has told me anything. We'll make you cry. Do you have that? We're going to make you cry to go full circle. No, no. OK, that didn't happen on air. You have the next 60 seconds to say whatever you want from your heart. Oh, I don't know. From your heart, Maria, to the people here that made it wonderful for you. This is your time. Well, obviously, thank you to you guys because you guys gave me the opportunity to intern. And that got my foot into the door with radio. And it hasn't been easy, obviously, like eight years here. Like I've gone through things and I've learned and I've grown from it. And I'm I'm excited. I'm so happy for like this next chapter of my life. And one of the biggest things that I want to say to people is do things scared. Do it alone and don't wait for anybody to do things because I spent the majority of my 20s like being afraid of doing things by by myself and waiting for others to travel. And now I'm like, I'm going to Coachella with a friend. But like if my friend wasn't able to go with me, I would have done it by myself. What else do you do in January? Yeah. Oh, I am running a marathon. Yeah. How many races have you been in? Five Ks? Zero. I totally forgot about that. From zero to 26 points. You're going to the ultimate. And are you planning to run the whole time? I would just fast walk. You know, get the little like the little run and the little roller skate. Ten issues. I don't think they have a lot of kids for adults. I checked. Kevin, check. And you will bust your ass as someone who's taller than four feet. So, Maria, happy trails. Come by anytime. And wherever you're going is not as good as here, but OK, you chose it. Thanks a lot. Have a great day. And for anybody who has any any comments or questions, if there's anything you missed on our show today, which you did miss a lot, go to our podcast. Lots of stuff. K-R-B-E.com.
