Summary

Pastor Philip Anthony Mitchell delivers a sermon on Acts 2:1-13, focusing on the Day of Pentecost and the Holy Spirit's empowerment of the early church. He emphasizes that the global church of Jesus Christ, unified and filled with the Holy Spirit, is the most powerful force on earth—more powerful than any corporation, sports team, or false religion. Mitchell connects the historical Pentecost event to modern Christian life, arguing that believers today are empowered by the same Holy Spirit to speak boldly about faith and impact their communities.

Insights
  • The Holy Spirit's primary focus upon the early church was their mouths and hearts—setting them on fire to speak boldly, suggesting modern Christianity's silence on gospel proclamation represents a departure from biblical empowerment
  • Prayer and unified community are prerequisites for supernatural spiritual manifestation; the 120 disciples' 10-day prayer vigil preceded the Holy Spirit's arrival, implying spiritual power requires sustained intercession
  • The miraculous gift of speaking in foreign languages on Pentecost was strategically timed to reach an international crowd in Jerusalem, demonstrating God's intentional design to spread the gospel across cultures and nations
  • Modern believers often underestimate God's ability to reach lost family members and the unsaved; the sermon challenges complacency in evangelism by highlighting God's willingness to use supernatural means to reach anyone
  • The distinction between baptism in the Holy Spirit (a one-time empowerment event) and being filled with the Spirit (a repeated, ongoing process) suggests Christians should continuously seek fresh spiritual infilling for works of service
Trends
Rise of charismatic, emotionally-engaged preaching in evangelical churches emphasizing direct Holy Spirit experience over doctrinal expositionGrowing tension in American Christianity between cultural accommodation and prophetic boldness; pastors increasingly calling congregations to vocal faith witness despite social pressureShift toward supernatural expectation in prayer practices; modern believers encouraged to pray aggressively for intervention in family crises rather than passive blessing prayersEmphasis on church unity and corporate prayer as prerequisites for spiritual power and growth; individual spirituality subordinated to collective empowermentIntegration of historical biblical narrative (Passover, Pentecost, Exodus) with contemporary church experience to establish theological continuity and legitimacy for modern spiritual manifestationsCritique of 'approval addiction' and social media influence on Christian witness; pastors challenging congregants to prioritize gospel proclamation over platform preservationExpansion of church reach through digital platforms (live streaming, video testimonies) enabling international participation in local church gatherings and spiritual experiences

It could be seated. If you are a guest, we welcome you to 2018-2019, where we are serious about the spread of the gospel and the multiplying of disciples. To all of our digital disciples watching live across America and around the world, we welcome you. Our digital family, we are on mission right now for Christ across the world. We are working on business for the Lord Jesus Christ in these last days. Smaller than just technology, we are a global family. We pray for you. We love you. You are an extension of our house wherever you are. If you are in this room or you crept into this China, you are not a follower of Jesus. We are glad that you are here. We want you to know that you can belong before you believe and be amongst us before you believe. And I pray that you will come to know the Lord Jesus before time has run out on you. We are in a series called Acts 1 and 2, where we are walking through the first two chapters of the Book of Acts together, a book of origin written by Luke in the AD 60s. It records the formation of the Christian church in the first 30 years of its history. In text today, Acts chapter 2 verses 1 through 13. I come against every demonic force. A raid against 2819 and every demonic force pushing on the minds of people in this moment. Satan the Lord rebuke you. Spirit of the living God, we thank you that you are present in the earth, present in the room, present across these cameras. Breathe, move, walk. Have your way spirit of the living God. Hey, hey. Have your way spirit of the living God. Hey. For none is more powerful than you. Have your way God. Hey, hey, hey God. Hey, hey God. Hallelujah. Send fire God. Send fire. Tear down strongholds in our minds. Lies built up in our minds. Rub us of hearts of stone and give us hearts of flesh. Hey, hey, hey. Give us hearts of flesh God. Breathe, breathe, breathe on your sons and daughters. Give revelation and insight. We ask in the mighty. Hey. And the majestic. And the matchless name of our soon coming king. The Lord Jesus Christ. And all God's people. And all God's people shout amen. Shout amen and amen. Hallelujah. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hey. Hallelujah. Hey. Fire. Hallelujah. Fire. Fire. Hallelujah. Fire. Hallelujah. Fire. Hey. fire god hey hallelujah fire feel the spirit of God hallelujah fire hallelujah hey whoo fire hallelujah hey fire feel the spirit of God hallelujah hallelujah you feel the spirit walking the room walking past your chair hey I feel the spirit walking past your chair hey hallelujah she put up on my santa hallelujah God fire hallelujah Jesus fire hallelujah come on man come on we ain't dead there's something alive on the inside of me on the inside of you hey whoo somebody clap somebody run somebody jump somebody scream hallelujah whoo hey oh you feel that that's called power You feel that? You feel that in the room? That's called power. I said, do you feel that? I'm talking to you. That's called power. Let me tell you what does not have that. No sports team. No fortune 500 company. No forced religion. The most powerful organism in the earth is the global church of Jesus Christ. There is no organism, no entity in the earth more powerful than the global church of Jesus. Because at the center of the church is the power of the third person of the Trinity, the third person of the Godhead. His name is the Holy Spirit. And he has not attached himself to fortune 500 companies. He has not attached himself to false religions. He has not attached himself to false progenitors. But he is forever united with the church and wherever the people of God are, in any city, in any state, in any nation, in any continent, the power of the Holy Spirit is there. And wherever you are as a saved Christian, even when you are by yourself, the power of the Holy Spirit is there. When you show up, the Holy Spirit shows up. He is the one that's empowering the church. It is the Holy Spirit that inspires gospel proclamation. It is the Holy Spirit that inspires gospel songs like For Christ Alone. It is the Holy Spirit that leads you and guides you into all truth. It is the Holy Spirit who lends you of people you should not be in relationships with. It is the Holy Spirit that engineers our pathways to cross one another in different seasons and times. It is the Holy Spirit that creeps into your prayer room and comforts you when your heart is hurting and wounded and broken. It is the Holy Spirit who is ordering your footsteps, warning you of dangers around the corner, putting songs in your heart in the middle of the night, giving you courage when your heart is full of fear, giving you guidance when you don't know where to go, giving you answers when you are confused. It is the Holy Spirit that sneaks up on you in your car when you drive into work and you be flooded with tears before you get to your job. It is the Holy Spirit who has given you all of your gifts. The gift on the inside of you was given to you by the Holy Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit who engineers movements, who engineer 2018-2019. It is the Holy Spirit who takes tissue symbolically and wipes it from your eyes when you are hurting. All of your interactions down here is with the person of the Holy Spirit. Because he is at the center of the church, you are, I am, we are the most powerful force on the planet. It is only the power of the Holy Spirit and the prayers of the saints that is keeping back the full force of evil from overtaking mankind. It is only the power of the Holy Spirit and the work of the saints that is keeping back the full force of evil from overwhelming mankind. It is the Holy Spirit giving birth to churches and sending out missionaries and doing gospel work through human beings, albeit imperfect they are. It is the perfect person of the Holy Spirit inside broken shells of clay. Repeat, it is the perfect person of the Holy Spirit inside broken vessels of clay that makes us strong when we are weak, that anoints us with works of service. It is the Holy Spirit when we feel fire come into a room. You are powerful and I am powerful because of the person of the Holy Spirit. It was the Holy Spirit who came after you when you was unsaved, convicted you of your sin, wooed you to the Father on behalf of Jesus, unzipped you, took out your unrighteousness, wrapped on the inside of you, and zipped you up with his power. That's all of Ephesians 1. It is the Holy Spirit that seals you, that make you cry out, son, daughter. All of that is because of the Holy Spirit. And it's the Holy Spirit empowering over two billion people around the world who claim Christ as king over two billion. It is the Holy Spirit even working through good men and around evil men to make sure that the words of Jesus never falls to the floor, to make sure the words of God never fall to the floor. It is the Holy Spirit ensuring that all of the plans of God will come to pass as he has written them. And we feel him and we interact with him and we hear him and we sense him. He is forever united to the church. For this reason, repeat, there is nothing in the earth, no religion, no company, no entity, nothing in the earth. Don't ever forget that. More powerful. Watch the word. Powerful. Watch the word. Powerful. Watch the word. Powerful. Watch the word. Powerful. We never without help. There is nothing in the earth. More powerful. More powerful. More powerful. And the church, not because of sermons or platforms or Instagram followings, the church is powerful because the church is forever united. Watch the word. United. Watch the word. United. Watch the word. United. Because she was not always. Yes. Yes. How did all this happen? Where did all this start? How did the Holy Spirit get united with the church? How did the Holy Spirit make you and I so powerful? It's right here in our text. And Luke records the most important Sunday after the resurrection in Christ in church history. Luke chapter 2, Acts chapter 2 and verse 1. When the day of Pentecost arrived and the old King Jimmy says when the day of Pentecost had fully come. They were all together in one place. Stop right there. Luke wrote, when the day of Pentecost came, all of the believers were in one place. Now the Jews had many feasts and festivals that they used to commemorate seasons and important events that happened in the life of their nation. One of the most important festivals they ever celebrated was the Passover. And then 50 days after the Passover, they celebrated another festival called the Feast of Weeks or the Feast of Harvest, which got a new name, the Feast of Pentecost, which means 50, Penta, like Pentagon. 1500 years before Christ's ministry came to earth. The people of God was in Egyptian slavery for 400 years. For 400 years they cried out to God for deliverance. And then at the end of that 400 years, God started speaking to the answer. They're crying out for deliverance. God is talking to the answer. They're crying out for deliverance. God is talking to the answer. They're crying out for help. God is talking to the answer. Because not just because God's not talking, that doesn't mean He's not working on your answer. You see, I feel like God is not hearing me right now. No, maybe He's working on your answer. So they're crying out for deliverance. God is speaking to the answer. And the answer comes in the form of a man named Moses. God calls a man named Moses, sends him down to Egypt to lead over 2 million people free from Egyptian slavery. Through Moses, God overthrows the nation of Egypt. But 10 mighty plague, the last one was the death of every firstborn child. Moses tells everybody in the city that night, kill a lamb, take the blood, put it over your door. And when the death angel walks through the street, he will see the blood on the door. God watches. And the death angel will pass over your house. The people then are delivered from Egypt. The firstborn of Egypt died. They come out of Egypt, and then they're led to a place called Sinai, a mountain. 50 days after they're led to Sinai, Moses is on top of a mountain. He comes down with the moral law, the Ten Commandments. 50 days after the Passover. So those 50 days, when that 50 days come, that was a celebration of God's provision. His goodness, his kindness. They celebrated with a gift, an offering unto God, 50 days after the Passover. This is the symbolism in Pentecost. It's symbolic of God's goodness, his favor, his mercy, his giving, his generosity. And Passover was celebrated for over a thousand years. It was only a foreshadow of the death of Christ, the ultimate Lamb. During the week of Passover, around the year AD 33, the ultimate Lamb was killed on a cross. That was the final Passover in history. Then 50 days later on another Sunday comes the final Pentecost of history. This day right here, Pentecost Sunday, the final Passover, the final Pentecost. Now notice it says on this Sunday in Pentecost, all of the believers were together. You remember it was 120 of them in the upper room and they had been in there for days praying and seeking God's face. Men, 10 days had gone by while they were in that upper room praying. That was enough time for them to descend and to discord, but they were praying. That was enough time for them to descend into other things, but they were praying. That was enough time for them to get weary, but they were praying. That was enough time for them to be frustrated, but they were praying. That was enough time for them to have doubt and unbelief about what Jesus said. Go and wait, but they were praying. They were in that room praying, going through the scriptures because they believed what Jesus had said. He gave them final commandments, make disciples, be my witness, go into the city, wait until you're in due with power from on high. So there they are on the day of Pentecost, 120 of them gathered in the upper room, verse two. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. I want to draw your attention to this fact. Suddenly they said as they were in there praying, something happened unexpectedly. They heard a sound. I feel the spirit of God. They're in there praying and out of nowhere. 10 days later, they hear a sound like a mighty rushing wind. I want to draw your attention to the word mighty. Man, it would probably sound like if you've ever heard the winds from a hurricane that sound like a freight train on the outside of a house. They're sitting in that room and then they hear wind, something like sound. It was mighty. It was powerful. It probably sounded like a freight train. They said it was like a rushing wind. Luke wrote, wind is synonymous with God's presence. The word wind in Greek means Numa where we get breath from. It was God who made a man from a lump of clay and then with Numa, he breathed into him the breath of life. It was God working through Ezekiel in a vision who saw dry bones which represents the state of Israel and breathed into them life. It was God through the Holy Spirit that breathed into men to write the Holy Spirit. So we know that when we see wind, it represents God. It represents his breath. It represents his power and his presence. And it's like they heard that sound. It was like a mighty wind and then watch suddenly something happen in that room. Man, this is powerful to me because right here in this text, it reminds us that the words of Jesus can be trusted. It was Christ who said to them, go into the city, stay there and a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit. And here comes the Holy Spirit rushing into that room from heaven. So we know that the words of Christ can be trusted. The words of the scriptures can be trusted. But not only that, we see the response to prayer. They were not in there 10 days wasting time. They were in there praying. And we see how God responds supernaturally to prayer. They're in their seeking space and then suddenly man, a sound comes from heaven. It's just a reminder to you when I hear me how God responds to our prayers in supernatural ways. And last week in a meeting, it was our director, Danny B., of Global Missions for 2018-2019, was sharing with us powerful stories we never saw from access when we had that prayer gathering at State Farm Arena. And amongst those testimonies was a brother from some other city who sent a video in. And in his video, he was telling the story of how he was diagnosed with a terminal disease and the doctors told him he was surely going to die. He catches wind of access to State Farm Arena, books his ticket on a flight, flies to Atlanta, comes to the arena by faith, saying, this will be my last attempt for healing since the doctors can't do anything for me. He gets into the arena. He's sitting in a chair in the bleachers. He's believing God for healing. And he makes a video and sends us the video. He goes back to the doctor and they are confused. And now his health insurance is in a jam. They don't know what to do with him now because he's supposed to be dead, but now he's still alive. And we're watching this in the office, shutting tears in the conference room. Remind us of God responds to prayers in supernatural ways. Man, they were in there praying for 10 days. Some of us can't pray for five minutes. And you wonder why God's not moving, why he's not breathing. Man, we can't even sit still in his presence for five minutes. You have no idea what God would do when you would just be relentless in prayer. You'd be banging on his door like, Lord, it's me again. I don't give up that easy. He said, whoever knocks, Lord, it's me again. I'm talking to you about this again. I'm seeking you for this again. I'm praying about this again. And it said that room, something shifted in that room. Watch the word. Suddenly. I love that word. Suddenly. It reminds me that God can change any circumstance. Suddenly. He can invade a marriage and change it when he gets ahold of a husband's heart. Suddenly. He can repair a broken relationship. Suddenly. He can heal a physical body. Suddenly. He can lift you from depression. Suddenly. You can get a phone call for a brand new job. Suddenly. One handshake, usher you into a new season. Suddenly. You have no idea the things that God would do in somebody's life suddenly. And with summer of 2024, my wife and I were gone. When we get phone calls, like, pass a fill up, something is happening. They're coming back to a different church. What's happening? People are coming by the 10s, 100s, 1000s. We don't know where they're coming from. Something just happened in the church suddenly. Watch. I wasn't here. So you see, it's not contingent upon a man. The Holy Spirit was stirring something up in 2019. He started drawing people to the church by the 1000s. Suddenly. One summer. From a church of 500 to several thousand in a summer. Suddenly. Supernatural. Verse three. And divided tongues as a fire appeared to them. Oh my God. And rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as they as the Spirit gave them utterance. Oh my God. This is so much heat. Man, picture the scene. I'm a pictorial person. So I read the scriptures. I see images in my mind. 120 people in a large room. They don't have no electricity. It's the first century AD. They got candles burning in that room. It's dim. You have some people laid out on the floor praying and some people sitting against the wall praying and some people on their knees praying and some people are walking praying and then suddenly they hear a sound. It's shaking the room that they're in and then they see lights start falling from the sky in the room like tongues of fire coming down from heaven. And it just lands on each one of them. And then as soon as it lands on them they start speaking in other tongues. Fire represents the presence of Almighty God. God led his children in Israel by a pillar of fire. God spoke to Moses in a burning bush with fire. God in the scriptures is called a consuming fire. So fire and wind represents the presence of God. Not only did the Holy Spirit invade that room with a sound, He invaded that room with a visible manifestation. He came down upon them like fire. Landed on them. And as that fire hit them, they all started speaking in other tongues. Now I just want to draw your attention to this in the text. When the Holy Spirit is poured out on the church, these 120 who are the embryonic form of the church, when the Holy Spirit is poured out and notice the first thing God touches on man, their mouth. The first thing God touches on man when he comes is their mouth. And we know that the mouth is connected to the heart because from the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. So we know that the first thing God did, the first thing the Holy Spirit touched on the church was their mouths and their heart. And what did he do with their mouth? He set their mouths on fire. He said, but I'm shy. He set their mouths on fire. He said, but man, I'm a quiet person. Man, he set their mouths on fire, which means he also set their hearts on what? On fire. The Lord did not intend for his church to be lukewarm and dead. I don't care about your denomination. He never intended for the church to be lukewarm and dead. The first thing he touched on the church was their mouths. The first thing he touched was their heart and he touched it with what? With fire. And you be looking at me like I'm radical? No, I'm normal. The problem is American Christianity is lukewarm. So when you see people like me, you think I'm over the top. No, I'm not over the top. My mouth has been set on fire. My heart has been set on fire. Is anybody's mouth off? And your mouth has been set on fire. Give Jesus a praise in this house. What are we talking about? The first thing the Holy Spirit touched, mouth to speak, and he touched their mouths with fire. It's connected to the heart, so he touched their hearts with fire. It reminds me of Isaiah 6, when a 20-year-old prophet saw the incarnated Jesus, the pre-incarnated Jesus in all of his glory. And when he saw the pre-incarnated Christ in all of his glory, the first thing he realized that he was a sinner and that his mouth was foul and that his nation was foul and he falls down, writhing in sin. He does not even say anything to God. God sends an angel with a call from the altar of burning fire and he smacks Isaiah in his mouth and burns him in his heart so that he cares and that he speaks. And that's what God needs from the church. We show dead and whack and compromising. He wants us to care a heart full of fire and speak a mouth full of fire. So our hearts are burned, so we care about the state of our children. We care about the state of our marriage. We care about the state of the country. We care about the state of the church. We care about what's going on in social media and we pray and speak. He said that they were all filled with the spirit and began to speak in other tongues. Jesus said that when the day of Pentecost comes, they will be baptized. So on this day, we know that they were baptized and filled two separate things. They were baptized. That in the spirit made them the official church. 121 of them joined together as a church. They're baptized now as the church and now they are filled with the spirit for works of service. We know they are different because Jesus said to these same disciples earlier, receive the Holy Spirit. So they was already being led by the spirit. Now they are filled with the Holy Spirit for the works of making disciples. And watch, the baptism one time being filled by the spirit happens repeatedly over your Christian life. This is why Paul later on, we're right to the church in Ephesus. Don't be drunk with wine, we're in excess. Not against wine, just don't be stupefied by wine. But he says, be watched, filled with the spirit. And keep being filled up by the spirit. How do you get filled up by the spirit? Prayer, community, the scriptures, fasting, worship, praise, come to 2819 in the gathering and you get filled up by the spirit. And go out of those doors to do works of service. The infilling is to serve. I'm preaching to you now as I'm filled up by the spirit. I started this week in a hospital bed. I'm preaching to you now in the power of the spirit. They were singing in the power of the spirit. Frank Plays in the power of the spirit. Jonathan Plays in that we're being filled up to do works of service. Reprophesy, preach, sing, evangelize in the power of the spirit. And watch, they started to speak in other, watch the word, other tongues. The Greek word tongues here, languages. Watch this. Galileans who speak Aramaic and Greek get filled with the spirit. They start speaking languages they did not know. They had a miracle of the mind connected to their mouth. They started to, this would be like the Holy Spirit coming upon me and I started speaking Portuguese. Imagine if the spirit fell in this room and everybody started speaking different languages, German, French, Portuguese. You started speaking Creole. You started speaking languages you never know and it's just pouring out of you. A miracle of the mind. These tongues is different than the gift of tongues we see in 1 Corinthians 14. How do we know that? Two different words. In 1 Corinthians 14 when we see the gift of tongues, Paul tells that this is a gift for prayer that when we're praying in tongues, our minds does not understand but our spirit man is edified. As when we pray in our tongues, you feel something on the inside although your mind does not understand what you're saying. Which requires a gift of interpretation to understand prayers in tongues. This is not prayers in tongues. This is a different. The word here in Greek is for languages. Watch. Why would the Holy Spirit anoint them to speak in different languages on the day of Pentecost on this Sunday? Why would he do that? You think of all the things he could have anointed them to do something else. No, he comes upon them, touches their mouth, touches their heart. They start speaking in other languages. Why would the Holy Spirit do that? Verse 5. Now there were dwellic and Jerusalem Jews devout men from every nation under heaven. Oh my God. It's the Feast of Pentecost so that mean Jerusalem population has swole three times the size. It's packed with people from every nation under heaven who don't speak Aramaic and Greek. The Holy Spirit comes upon the 120, forms them into the church, touches their mouth. They're all 120 people speaking multiple languages. And as that is happening, Jerusalem is packed with devout Jews from every nation under heaven. And at the sound, what sound? 120 people speaking in foreign languages, the multitude came together. Did you see that? A praying church that's unified, submitted to the Scriptures and powered by the Spirit attracts a crowd. A praying church submitted to the Scriptures, united in one accord, speaking God's language, attracts a crowd. A praying church united as one, submitted to the Scriptures, filled with the Spirit, speaking the wonders of God in multiple languages attracts a crowd. Not any crowd, an international crowd. What is going to make sense in a second? This is the day the church was born. Watch the power of the Spirit. 120 people, the first church, they burst into the streets speaking multiple languages and what begins to come around them is an international crowd. And at the sound, the multitudes came together and they were bewildered. They were confused because each one in the crowd was hearing these 120 speak in his own language. This is insane to me. And they were amazed and astonished, saying, are not these all who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear each one of us in his own native language? Jerusalem is packed with an international crowd. The Gospel and the wonders of God must now go out to the whole world. The Lord uses a supernatural gift to catapult the wonders of God to an international crowd. 120 Galileans who speak Aramaic and Greek don't speak the languages of people outside of that room. And yet they are filled with the Spirit, they burst into the streets of Jerusalem. All 120 are speaking in foreign languages, a crowd gathers and every person in the crowd hears something in the language they can understand. See God would go through no, He's not short of no lengths to reach people if He really wants to reach them. He will reach a mother, He will reach a father, He will reach an unsafe cousin, He will reach an unsafe husband. The Lord is not short and His ability to reach people who are far away from Him. Say man, man, my cousin is a Muslim, my cousin is a Buddhist, my cousin is this. He will never receive the Gospel. Really? You gave up that easy? Like the Lord can't give him a dream of Jesus? That's not happening right now in the Middle East? Like people in the Middle East are not having dreams of Christ? Like He can't send somebody to knock on their door? The Lord can do anything He wants to reach anybody He wants and that's why you and I safe should never give up on our unsafe family and loved ones. We should be praying for them and believing for them and trusting God to reach them any way possible. Lord, my son out there wild and crazy, this is the mother praying out there. Lord, I pray he get in trouble with the law and you lock him up in prison and his cell may be a radical Christian, but he can't escape that Christian. See, you'll never pray prayers like that. You want to pray these little soft little white prayers, these little bed time. Lord, just bless him. He wild and crazy bless him. No, Lord, get him. Lord, arrest him. Lord, go after him. Lord, snatch him. Lord, break him. Lord, hurt him. Do whatever you got to do to save him. Don't got time to be praying now. I lay me down to sleep. Little wax off church. Lord bless him. He's full of the devil bless him. She full of the devil bless her. Lord, go get her. Take away her job. Take away her boyfriend. Do whatever you got to do. Get her all by herself. Bring her to a knee. Lord, go get her. Go snatch her, God. Do whatever is necessary so that she does not go to hell. Why you don't pray like that? Don't pray like that. If the Lord could give 120 people a miracle in their mind to speak languages they did not learn. That's like you speaking German. In a gathering you never... If he could do that what can he not do? Who's in the crowd? Verse 9. Parthians and Medes. Elamites. Residents of Mesopotamia. Judea. Cappadocia. Pontus in Asia. Furgia. Pamphylia. Egypt. And parts of Libya. Ortho-Africa in Europe. Long and asyrenes. Visitors from Rome. Of Jews and proselytes. Cretans. Which is an island. Arabians. We hear them. I like this part. Listen to the word. We hear them. We hear them telling them. In our own tongues, our own languages, the mighty works of God. We hear them. Look at me. Look at me, man. We hear them. We hear them. We were singing this song before this gathering. I will not be silent. We hear them. You know what the church has right now? Too much silence. Too much complacency. Too complicit. Too afraid. Too worried about your platform. Too worried about offending people. Too gripped by approval addiction. Too worried about who's going to unfollow you. Unlike you. The church too quiet. We won't speak the gospel into social issues. We won't speak the gospel on our social media. We won't speak the gospel to our children. We won't pray. We won't stand up. We won't talk. We won't sing. We hide out in rooms. We have church. We quiet the rest of the week. We quiet the rest of the year. We quiet. No gospel spreading. No evangelism. No praying for my coworkers. No talking to the Uber driver. No using your social media to glorify Jesus. You may never post a scripture. And never post a song. The least you can do is post for Christ alone. I mean, if you're afraid to share my messages, I get it. I'm controversial. The least you could do is post for Christ alone. The least you could do is have some type of voice so people can hear. The wonders of God. We silent and the world is suffering at the same time. We silent and the world is suffering at the same time. We silent and the world is suffering at the same time. And all verse 12 were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, what does this mean? And others mocked and said they are all filled with new wine. They hear the wonders of God in their foreign languages. Some are drawn in with curiosity. Others are drawn in with mockery. Ain't that the same response to the gospel today? We hear the gospel and some people are drawn in with curiosity. They want to know more. Others, man, are repelled with mockery. Reminds me of a man named Nicodemus who was a Pharisee. He went to see Jesus at night. It was Nicodemus Jesus says, for God's all of the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whoever believes in him will not perish, but have eternal life. He didn't say that in a sermon. He said that the one man, a Pharisee named Nicodemus. Nicodemus is curious around Christ. The other Pharisees are jealous and they mock Christ. The other Pharisees put Christ on the cross. Nicodemus takes his body down from the cross. Because when the gospel goes out, it's only one or two responses. There is curiosity that leads to life and transformation, and there is mockery that will lead to destruction and damnation. There it is in the text. See, full circle now. All that heat you had in the beginning, all that energy. You know what I came from? This day right here. All that energy you had in the beginning, all that running around the room, all that standing on your chair. You know what all of that came from? This day right here. It was on this day right here, the Holy Spirit was united to the church. It was on this day right here at the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit was united to believers. And because of this day at the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit is at the center of the church, empowering the church, leading the church, guiding the church, filling the church, empowering you, every single person under the sound of my voice who is saved, you have been filled and empowered by the Holy Spirit. And if you are saved, that means you are powerful. If you are saved, that means you are gifted. If you are saved, you are anointed. If you are saved, your mouth and your heart has already been set on fire. Fire, man. You just got to let it breathe. You got to let it live. You got to let it be. You got to stop being ashamed. You got to stop being ashamed. Because the Holy Spirit is in you, you are powerful. Because the Holy Spirit is in you, you have divine help. Because the Holy Spirit is in you, you can tap heaven. Because the Holy Spirit is in you, you have the limited supply of help and grace and strength, even when you are weak. Because the Holy Spirit is in you. Somebody needs to tell you you ain't normal. The Scripture says you are, Angelique, a peculiar people. You different. You come on your job, you different. You walk on your campus, you different. You go up in a restaurant, you different. You walking through Target, you different. Or Tarjay. You walking through Tarjay, you different. You walking through Walmart, you different. You on a sports team, you different. You at a family gathering, you different. You ain't normal. Come on my sister, you different. On fire, only one. I wish I had 2,000 more people that joined that woman right there to say I'm on fire because I'm filled with the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit. Is anybody on fire? Is anybody on fire? I said is anybody on fire? Is anybody on fire? Somebody give a prize in this place. Sit up with the Spirit. You can talk to Him. You can ask Him questions. You can say help me. Spirit guide me. Should I sign this contract Holy Spirit? Should I be dating this person Holy Spirit? Should I be in this relationship Holy Spirit? What? You said stay home today Holy Spirit. Move to Atlanta and join 2019. You want me to do that Holy Spirit? Yeah. Even when I'm weak or in a jam in a hospital bed, I'm still full of power because the Holy Spirit lives on the inside of me and lives on the inside of you. Is anybody filled with power because of the Holy Spirit? Is anybody on fire because of the Holy Spirit? Is anybody on fire because of the Holy Spirit? I see fire falling from heaven. Fire. Fire. You could be young and full of fire. You could be old and full of fire. You could be white and full of fire. And be black and full of fire. And Asian and full of fire. And Hispanic and full of fire. You could be full of fire if you're zipped up with the Holy Spirit. Spirit of the living God. We feel your presence in this room. We feel your presence across this camera. We thank you for the day you came from heaven. Baptized us, filling us, empowering us, washing us, helping us, strengthening us, gifting us. Lead us, guide us, convict us, order our steps. Make us more sensitive to your presence. Holy Spirit. We yield our lives to you. And even in our weakness, we are powerful because of you. Father, we thank you. Lord, we thank you. That on the day of Pentecost, you poured out your spirit. You kept your word. And today, we're going to be able to say, we are the most powerful people on the planet because of that. We are people of fire. Our hearts and our minds are fire. We will not remain silent all the more. We will declare the wonders of the kingdom to a lost and dying world. We will not shut up and we will not be silent. We will not be silent. We will not be silent. We will not be silent. We will not be silent. We will not be silent. Breathe on 2819 Global. Breathe on the church. Breathe on us, Holy Spirit. And for the one who is dead, revive us right now with a fresh fire. I ask in the mighty and the majestic and the matchless name of our soon coming king, the Lord Jesus Christ. Now take the roof off this place and get Jesus. Breathe.
