•Apr 2, 2026about 2 months agoSummary
The CHGO Bears podcast discusses the growing momentum toward Hammond, Indiana as a potential stadium location, with hosts analyzing interviews from the NFL owners meetings with Bears leadership George McCasky and Kevin Warren. The episode covers draft prospects like Caden McDonald, stadium design priorities, and the May 31st deadline for Illinois to finalize a deal before the Bears potentially move to Indiana.
Insights
- Indiana is now a legitimate stadium option, not just leverage—Bears leadership is genuinely evaluating Hammond as a viable alternative to Arlington Heights if Illinois cannot reach a deal by May 31st
- Stadium quality matters more than location—hosts emphasize that a world-class facility with proper entertainment district development is essential for fan acceptance, regardless of whether it's built in Illinois or Indiana
- Political gridlock in Illinois is accelerating the timeline—the state's inability to move quickly on stadium financing is pushing the Bears toward Indiana, where the state is offering a free stadium with land ownership transfer
- Draft evaluation priorities reveal defensive strategy—the Bears are visiting players like Caden McDonald to address run-stopping needs, but speed and pass-rush remain the primary focus despite defensive line depth concerns
- Infrastructure and accessibility are critical unknowns—Hammond's proximity to mills, lack of direct airport/train access, and environmental concerns present long-term challenges that could impact the stadium's success as an entertainment destination
Trends
Stadium relocation as negotiating leverage—NFL teams increasingly use relocation threats to pressure state/local governments into favorable financing deals2030 stadium completion timeline pressure—aggressive opening deadlines are forcing teams and municipalities to accelerate planning, with Northwestern's delays serving as a cautionary taleRegional entertainment district development—modern stadium projects now require surrounding commercial/residential development to justify long-term financial viability beyond game daysState budget constraints limiting stadium funding—Illinois' debt crisis is making it difficult for the state to contribute to stadium projects, shifting burden to teams and municipalitiesCross-state competition for sports franchises—Indiana's willingness to offer free land and ownership transfer is creating genuine competitive pressure for Illinois to match terms or lose the BearsDraft evaluation shifting toward scheme fit—teams are increasingly visiting players to assess fit within specific defensive schemes rather than relying solely on film evaluationCompensation pick strategy gaining attention—draft discussion is increasingly focused on comp pick strategy and value optimization rather than individual player evaluation

All hoog all the time. Let's go everybody. Day two. Pass over. You guys were fired up yesterday. You got after your matzo Gregory. Look at you getting after that. Getting after that unleavened bread like a champion that you are. That's right. We are live from the Xfinity loft. Shout out to our friends at Xfinity. Shout out to Hogueback in studio. That's what was on the old national bank sign as I was driving in today. Yeah. There was a bunch of words I didn't know and I was like. Hogs to mea. You got a hogs to mea. There was something like that. Don't worry about the fact that nobody wished me a happy Passover on you. I know. I know. Happy Passover. Everybody knows the song that we sing around. I expect you to call me on Easter. I wasn't aware. I wasn't aware. Of course you weren't. You are so... Hunts-gale. There you go. Hunts-gale. That's it. That's not any of you. That's how it goes? No. No. I'll sing you a Dianoo after the show today. By the way, Hogue. Yes. As we sit here in the Xfinity loft, welcome back. Thank you. We missed you. I know you missed us. Why was my football in the poppy shot? Let's talk to Stephen. He's got a weird thing going on. I needed a third football to throw into the poppy shot from distance. It's my net drill. First of all, I'm going to talk to you about the poppy shot. My net drill. First they took my desk. Now they're taking the stuff off my desk. That was my desk. I told them you took my desk. You took my desk. It was the great thing. You didn't deserve a desk. You have a conference room. Do you want your gift, Hogue, for your trip now? Or in the... You're not a gift. Yeah. I got Hogue a gift. You had nothing to do with it. I care about my teammates. You... Let me consult Stephen. Stephen, do you know what this gift is? I do. Do I want it? It's a fun gift. Okay. Yeah, then I want it. All right, Gregory, I kept you out of this because I don't trust your... Oh, Jesus. You don't know what it is? I'd be worried if I were you, but no. I am worried. That's why I asked, Stephen. Yeah, no, I do not know what it is. Oh. Did you get some free Blackhawks gear? Actually, that's from the store. There you go. I put in a Blackhawks bag for you. That doesn't necessarily mean it's... No, it's this. I didn't get a gift. Go home. I'll get you a gift next time. What was it? What's that? Who was that addressed to? Mark in Lincolnshire. Yep, that's me. You don't put your last name when you get stuff shipped? Nope. It just says Mark. Mark. Mark. I'm a very... I'd show it to the camera, but I don't think anybody... I'm a very famous person. I can't have... You're the Mark. I'm the Mark. You know, I can't really... What's happening here? Look, I love how interested Greg is. This is really a highlight for me. Guys, you're going to be very happy with this gift. What is it? It's the horse blinders. Wow, this thing... It's like a thong. This looks like something very different. I'm surprised I recognized what it was. It looks like something like a dominatrix would wear. This... Put it on. You got to put it on. Well, I don't think it's going to fit my head. Well, it seems inappropriate to put it on. These are the horse blinders, so you can stay focused. Explain the horse blinders thing. This was like three weeks ago. What? This, I don't... You look like... Why did you order this? You look like... You look like if... Oh, it was worth it. Also, it doesn't work. I can still see both of you. Well, we sat at the show. I give Deadpool like... We was melted by a volcano. There, now I can only see Stephen. We sat at the show that you need horse blinders to not look at the two idiots to your right and left. And I ordered horse blinders for you. Where do you order horse blinders? Of course they have them on cesspool.com. Um, slash Amazon. So, I... Which was against my religion, but I did. I got it for you. So, I, you know, where do you get horse... There was a lot of options. And of course, I, you know, I didn't... I don't know if I made the best choice here. But... But I... Oh, God, thank you. You don't have to wear the whole show. You know, there's... There's a kid in here by... If somebody has an accident during the show, I mean, those eyes... It should be for me, actually. Are you sure these didn't come out of like... Your drawer at home? Those might fit somebody that I dated back in the day. I'm sure the Blackhawks are thrilled that their packaging was used. Okay. We're going Indiana Bears! Red, look at that. For those of you listening to the podcast, we apologize for the last six minutes. Go check out the YouTube for the visual. Although you might not want to. Okay. Hogue, while you were gone, we announced the draft party. I did. That's another big thing. You can wear that at the draft party. You can wear that at the draft party. April 23rd and April 24th. If you want to come to the draft party for free, say you'll wear that thing and I'll pay for your entry fee. I'll even give you the all you can drink for 65 bucks. But they have to wear that the whole time. Yeah, they have to wear it the whole time. No, they have to wear it half hour. Allchio.com slash events, if you want to come out to our draft party. Joe's on Weed Street coming up here in a few weeks. It's coming a little too quickly this year. I know, it's my hasty. This year's draft and off season is just kind of with everything that's happened between, you know, the combine, then free agency. And then obviously the owners meetings. Yeah, you go to Hawaii. Sure. But even on top of that, the stadium stuff has just hovered over everything. It really overtook combine week. And so like it really feels like everything because of that has kind of like catapulted us into draft season, like faster than the last few years where it was like, a very slow build up. Yeah, I agree. And I think like even the comp pick stuff is just something and it's related to the draft. Right. Like there's been more talk about the comp picks than actually some of these players. So I do, I do promise that even tomorrow, I think, but starting, you know, all draft, all the time into next week, that's where we'll be dialing in. Don't want to win. And you know, there's news today with Kayden McDonald visiting the Bears, the nose tackle from the Buckeyes. We'll get into that at some point today. But first, not first like we normally do. Don't worry, Stephen. I'm on my point here. You, you sat down one on one with George McCasky and Kevin Warren. You looked into their eyes. How level of nerves that you had doing that. It's an awkward spot to be one on one with those guys. Let's be honest. So yeah, I mean, not necessarily nerves. Although I was actually trying to think, I don't know that I've ever had a one on one with George before. Kevin, I have trying to think about it. The thing about the owners meetings is like by Wednesday, like we've seen and talked to those guys, you know, just around the area. It's an awkward time to talk to Kevin. There's a lot of people that are mad at Kevin. Well, I get that, but I have been like, I've actually been trying to get an interview with him for a while to talk about some of this stuff because of, you know, some of the homework I've been doing behind the scenes and stuff. And Warren gave you a lot of credit. He was like, you know, you're a stadium guy. You know, your stadium stuff is what he said at the end of the interview. I don't think he said that to anyone else. I mean, I haven't watched every single interview we did, but I'm pretty certain that you're. Well, I was probably the only one badgering him about, you know, the color of the translucent panels in the roof. I don't know that anybody else on the Bears Beats doing that. That would have been amazing if he nerded you. You're kind of a nerd about this. I did it myself. But if you had done it, you're kind of a nerd on these things here, buddy. Maybe we need to hire you to really do the design. I would, I would, this is, I would offer my consulting for free. There you go, Kev, right here. And by the way, I'm actually being 100% serious about that. I care. The part of the reason why I care so much about the state stadium stuff is because it matters a lot to me that wherever this thing is built, that they get it right. Because I have lived in the city my entire life and we screw up stadiums all the time. It's what we do. Do you care if it's built in Ham and Indiana? If it's right. Yes, I do. I do. I care that the actual stadium is, is done right because I go to too many other ones that are way better than what we have in Chicago. And, and so, you know, that's what I've said as much. We've spent so much time talking about the location that we don't know that we spent enough time talking about what the actual stadium is going to look like. Because if the stadium, I've said this before, if the actual physical stadium sucks, it doesn't matter where it's built. It's, you're, you're making a very good point and you're making me more annoyed by the moment thinking about it because when they tore down Kamisky, they built a worse stadium. Yeah. Kamisky Park was incredible. When they tore down the greatest building in the history of buildings, Chicago Stadium, they built a worse stadium by a thousand percent. Even though people like the United States, the United Center is fine. But if you compare it to Chicago Stadium, there is no comparison. So in this particular situation, the Bears could actually, wherever they build it, could build a better stadium. And I like Soldier Field. I know it doesn't look aesthetically pleasing, but you're right on top of the action. There's not a bad seat in that place, but they could build a better stadium or they could build a cookie cutter, whatever that doesn't do anything other than the fact that it has skyboxes and more, you know, points where they can make dough. So I do like you just teeing this up. Well, when, when, uh, and obviously we're kind of at a point now where everything's kind of a wait and see. But when Kevin Warren said the goal is to have this stadium built by 2030, that they'll be playing in it by 2030, like if that actually happens, just in that scenario, that makes me a little sad because I'm kind of with you. I will always love Soldier Field. So I will miss it when it's gone. And I've kind of been at the point where people ask me about the stadium. I'm like, well, don't worry because this is going to take a decade and like, but if they're serious about actually first year 2030, we only got a few more years left with Soldier Field. Yeah. Before more seasons, right? 26, 27, 28, 29, four more seasons to Soldier Field open up 2030. That feels like an eternity. Honestly, it does. And it doesn't though, because you think about like how fast the four years of Matt Nagy went by, how fast the three years of Matt Iberfluss went by. Like it seems like an eternity, but then it flies by. I mean, just think about Kevin Warren being here. That was the fourth year we've already talked to him at the owner's meetings. It feels like yesterday I was just reading about how the Bears were going to have a president change and Kevin Warren was the front runner to get the job. And they were like introducing him like two weeks later. So it, you know, it'll come quickly. Well, Hogue, for this to happen and for the stadium to be played in by 2030, do they need to have this figured out by May 31st? Well, they got it. Yeah. I mean, I don't know about necessarily May 31st exactly, although that is a very important deadline in terms of what's going on in the Illinois legislator. But the, yes, they need to get this thing going now. Like in the year of 2026, they got to start, you know, at least getting shovels in the ground and getting this thing going. And in the way all the stuff works, you know, 2030 seems kind of ambitious. I mean, isn't Northwestern kind of missed their deadline a little bit to open up? Yeah, that's true. They've been pretty much on, weren't they like ahead of schedule at one point? But it's not going to be until the third game of the season that they're actually going to be ready to go with the stadium. They'll open it up for big 10 seasons supposedly. To give you an idea of how long this stuff takes sometimes, the Vikings were very kind enough to give reporters stadium tours as they were building US Bank Stadium. Like when the Bears would play there, they would invite us to come like the day before or super early in the morning of the game and see the progress being made. And I remember the last year before it opened, like it seemed like it was pretty much done. And yet they were still so far away because there's just so many things actually inside the stadium. Once it's built that they still have to do. And so that's part of the reason why it takes so long. Well, let me ask you this. I mean, just based off of everything you were able to digest over the last day, day and a half, you know, talking with George McCasky, Kevin Warren and in the response, like we talked a little bit about it yesterday with this momentum feeling like it's the pendulum might be swaying towards Indiana. And just like, I don't know, back and forth we go. It feels like, but just over the last day and even this morning, just kind of listening to some different outlets and stuff. It just feels like, you know, George said it like, you know, people will get over it. I don't know how true that is, but it just feels like they're trying to push to that moment. Well, but I think that actually is related to what we were just talking about. I think people will get over it as long as it's actually what they have promised it will be this entire time. If they truly, even if it's in Hammon, Indiana, if they truly put a very unique one of a kind world class stadium, which is how Kevin Warren keeps putting it world class, right? World class means to me that it's, you know, one of the best stadiums in the world. There's a lot of very cool new stadiums out there. So that's a pretty high bar to reach. And if they successfully put in this entertainment district that brings people there, that brings new residents there probably, and is a place to go visit for everybody in the Chicago land area, like they want to go there. Then yes, people will get over it. But if they don't accomplish that part of it, or it's not actually world class where it's cookie cutter, Raider Stadium or it's, you know, there's just not enough around there the rest of the year to warrant. And by the way, it's not just the people. It's Taylor Swift. It's, you know, Chris Stapleton. It's Morgan Wallen who's playing in Soldier Field this summer. They got to get those people to want to go there too and realize, wait, I'm going to do a concert in Hammon, Indiana, not Chicago. That's all part of this as well. And so I think they got to nail that part of it. And I feel like the risk becomes, that applies though, either way, Arlington Heights or Hammon. Because the same thing could, there's just more people already there probably, like around Arlington Heights. But like, I don't know, as much as I loved going to Arlington Park for all those years, like there was a lot of times I'd go there. There's not many people there. Right. Which is why they ended up selling it. Yeah. I wouldn't say it's more people in Arlington Heights. I would just say it's nicer area. Right. That's an interesting one, right? They're not going to really apply to the Bears. I don't think because it's football and there's 10 dates a year if you include the preseason or whatever. But if Arlington Park had been on the lakefront, would they have had better attendance? I wonder. Like if it was in a more central location, even for horse racing. Yeah. I don't know enough about that. I think part of it is just like how that sport was. We'll never work in Arlington. We'll never work in heaven. Build it on the lakefront. That's the point of this whole segment. I mean, are you, are you coming to grips that Chicago is out of the picture? I know you've been still fighting that. No, I'm not coming to grips with it. I'm going to fight it to the end and hope for what is the end when they make the shovel and ground. You'll actually, because I'm not convinced. I feel like the Bears will be kicking off at the new stadium and you're still like, it should be in Chicago. I will forever say that. It should be. It should have been. I had the deal done. Nobody listened. Politicians are on my side. Cam Buckner. Why is it Kevin would have done it? Why is it you think that nobody listens to you? Because nobody does. Speaking of that, we have something very important coming in our next segment. But first. We've got a top 30 visited Hallis Hall. His name is Katie McDonald, number 98 in your Ohio State program. Perhaps I don't number something in the Bears hearts here. Your traditional nose tackle. He's got the rear end that you're looking for. He's in the thick of the defense and a lot of people like him, but he's also dropping on many boards as well. So thoughts Katie McDonald. Well, by the way, we know this because Katie McDonald posted to his Instagram that he was there. He's at Hallis Hall. That does seem to confirm indeed that this visit did happen. Shout out to Instagram. There's the picture of Kate McDonald's story there. Where Hallis Hall has got a little video board message welcoming him to Lake Forest. So I mean, my issue with Katie McDonald, first of all, big, giant human being six to three 26. Can eat up a lot of space on the inside of the defensive line. Really good against the run. He lacks suddenness though. He lacks quickness and speed and so many things the Bears have talked so much about this offseason. And he's just not an established pass rusher at this point doesn't necessarily project to be. He seems to be that's not to say he can't help you. But you know, I here's the thing though, as we start to get into this time period of 30 visits and people visiting Hallis Hall ahead of the draft. It's important to remember that a lot of your 30 visits, probably more of them, the great majority of them end up being on guys that you. You have questions with like a 30 visit doesn't confirm that the Bears love Katie McDonald. A 30 visit probably means that they have things that they need to check out there, whether it's, you know, some of the athletic testing themselves, whether it's getting him in front of a board, trying to understand what he knows, just sizing these guys up sometimes, medicals, all these different things that I, you know, there's it's it's usually guys, you know, a lot about that you have. Questions with that you need answered or or it's guys you like that you don't know a ton about because maybe they're smaller school guys that don't have you don't have as much film on and things like that. And Katie McDonald's case, there's a lot of film and it's a it's a fit that I don't know is exactly perfect for the Chicago Bears hit the like button if you're interested at the bare minimum and Katie McDonald's get the likes up here and look just reading Fran's report on him. By the way, become a diehard. The code is J. A. H. N. S. 36 bucks and you can get every guy in the draft, the extensive coverage that Fran as we're gonna Fran on as soon as tomorrow if not next week. But he's 58 on his overall board. He's third on his defensive tackle board and he writes one year starter on the inside of Matt Patricia's odd front scheme. Big stout nose guard who holds the point of attack really well. I'm not gonna read the whole thing here. But then this is the interesting part. This is a pretty clear cut evaluation. He's not going to offer a ton of pass rush juice, but he's capable of being one of the league's better run defenders who can play as a starter and then come off the field on obvious pass downs. The biggest question is the overall athletic upside to consistently impact the quarterback. Each team will decide what that means for them. So look to me if this guy is available at 57 or 60, I don't see him as a 25 pick for the bears clearly, but if he's available at 57 or 60, the bears have a significant need in stopping the run. So yeah, do they like him enough? Well, and that's a great point I was going to get to is, you know, all the talk about pass rush and speed and quickness and all these things that I like myself. They got to get better stopping the run too. And you know, they part of allowing your pass rushers like Montez Sweat, the guys that are already here to rush the passer is stopping the run first, on first and second down. So adding a guy like Kate and McDonald, I don't know about exactly at number 25, but potentially later. But he could go earlier than that too. I mean, in fact, he's most mocked drafts. I think he's projected in the first round, right, Steven? Yeah, I mean, I've seen mostly him in the first round at 25. I don't know if he's the guy for me on the bears. He is really good against the run and the bears do need to find a guy for that. Neville Gallimore, he's a better pass rush than he is a run, run stopper. So you didn't really get that solution there. Andrew Billings isn't coming back to that door. That was a job that he could do really, really well. So for me, if, if like Carm mentioned it, if by some miracle he falls to pick 70 or maybe even if you trade up a little bit in the second round, then I'd be interested. But if we're talking first round here, I don't know if this is the best fit for the bears when there's other potential options still available. Yeah, that's exactly where I'm at as well. I mean, you can't sit here and preach speed and then and then take this guy at 25. Now that being said, I will say when you talk about stopping the run, they have to get better at that for sure. I thought they were better stopping the run on the interior than they were on the outside. You bring in Neville Gallimore, defensive tackle from the Colts to your deal, I believe. But you losing Andrew Billings and I understand, you know, where they're trying to go to speed. So losing Andrew Billings makes sense. But Andrew Billings had some big stops this year. You still need that guy. So I'm with you have Caden falls to a certain spot later in the draft. Then I'd be much more interested, but he still feels very raw to me. You know, only one year as a starter. And on top of that, just talking to him at the combine of all the different defensive tackles that we had an opportunity to talk to, he just looks so much younger than the other guys like the other guys are just, in my opinion, just looking at them so much more developed, like in body maturity. That was just kind of the read I got there. We do have Caden McDonnell from the combine. So let's just share that and then we can carry this on. Team just decide. When you're in the run game, what are the main keys you're looking at to try to get that edge before the snap? I'll say, looking at the personnel down the distance. And, you know, I'm that type of guy. You know, I welcome double teams. I command double teams and I'm going free up the linebackers. And every team decides to give me that's what you're going to get. Well, and that's an important thing that, you know, needs to be taken into consideration with these, you know, the bears adding more speed at linebacker, but getting smaller while doing so. Like you just look at them going from Tremaine Edmonds to Devin Bush. Tremaine Edmonds, his best attribute was also something that held him back, right? His size, his length, how much ground he took up just by standing there also limited him with in some of his movement skills. Devin Bush is going to be smaller, which means it's going to be harder for him to get off blocks at times, but he's going to have the speed and quickness to go make plays if you can hold up up front and keep the offensive lineman from climbing to the linebacker. So Brian Erlacher with Ted Washington and Keith Traylor early on. So, so a guy like Katie McDonald, who might be a run stuffer first can still make a huge difference. I'm just kind of struggling with the idea like second round. I'm all in. I'm struggling with the idea that like where we're trying to replace Andrew Billings with the 25th overall pick, you know what I mean? Like it's just, there's a value thing there that's not quite computing. But I totally understand why the bears are taking a very good close look at Katie McDonald because if he's there in a spot in the second round, I think he could make a lot of sense for what Dennis Allen's trying to do defensively when you add it all up. Well, it's also interesting with McDonald or anybody for that matter around because he's he's mocked, you know, a lot of mocks have him 3335. They're somewhere in there. Would the bears is could the bears be in a position where somebody might want to come up to get a quarterback or whoever and the bears could move back. Yeah. And then you can get them in that, you know, early second round spot at a pick along the way as well. You know, wouldn't be a premium pick if you're only going back eight spots, but it would be another selection. I've got another wrinkle I wanted to bring up here. We heard about your Von Dexter possibly being on the block at the combine. Do you think this has anything to do with that? No. No, I mean, maybe a drop. I mean, if they if they were planning on extending if big decks was crushing, you might have a little bit less interest. Yeah, I mean, I just there didn't seem to be much smoke that followed up that somewhat random report that they were shopping him. I know Brad Biggs really shot down the idea that they were trying to shop him. And, you know, even just in an art interview with Ryan Poles the other day in Indian or in Phoenix, he brought up Dexter along with Booker on his own. We didn't even ask him. He brought up those guys as dudes that are continuing to develop on the defensive line. So there's no way there's seem like a Dexter trade is imminent by any means. It would make no sense. You're not paying your Von Dexter a whole lot of money. You have huge needs in the middle of your defensive line. He's your the value that you could get for big decks is not going to be great in the final year of his contract. So that would be this just doesn't make sense. Yeah, just want to remind everyone as we kind of wrap this up like, hey, become a diehard and you have full access to Fran Duffy's draft guide. He does a weekly newsletter that's on Fridays. That's free to the public. But this extensive draft guide you become a diehard at all C H O dot com slash tired. Use the QR code here on your screen. Use the code johns J H N S for 36 bucks for the whole year grants you access to this database that Fran Duffy's been working on since before the college football season started. He's got quotes like when you go in and look through Caden McDonnell and it's word up. There's a segment of word on the street quotes from Ohio State's D line coach from August of 2024. You know, different people throughout the year, August, September, October, all the way to the combine where he's getting different quotes from anonymous scouts and different personnel people like that's that's just one player. And that's the kind of extensive work he puts into every single player on his database. And as I said, it's as extensive as they come in next week. We're going to be doing some pretty special stuff. Wednesday, April 8 and Tuesday, April 21. We're going to have Q and a diehard discord chat with Fran Duffy those weeks. And if you're a diehard, you have access to our discord and you'll have your opportunity to ask him questions yourself. So some different reasons right there to kind of join in as we're gearing towards the NFL draft. Slightly different note. How did Ohio State ever lose a football game this year? You got you got R. Vell Reese's is Mach 2 number two overall. Some people have sunny styles. The linebacker that's a greater athlete than MJ and his prime going number three overall. After that, you've got you've got carnell Tate. You know, some people think that he's the whatever top 10 top six whatever outstanding another buck I in the top. Ohio State every year though, but it's just nauseating and Caleb downs. You're gonna think enough for guys in the top 10. How they ever lose a game. Oh, not to mention their best player isn't even on that list because he's not draft eligible. That's Jeremiah Smith. He's going to be a right big top three pick next year as a wide receiver, which is pretty rare. You don't see it. I mean, that's adds more credit to what Indiana did. I get it. Right. Of course, as you know, the top pick in the draft, but you know, he's he's the top in the pick in the draft mainly because there are no other quarterbacks and well, I mean, what is the quarterback? Indiana did through this transfer portal and NIL they put together a very mature roster of some older players where like guys in the top 25 they're not all you know what I mean like they're younger. Do you root for Indiana football? I do not. That's right. That's idiot. He was just checking. Yeah. Yeah. You should have seen him jumping on the Iowa bandwagon while you were gone. Yeah, I did. I did. Why? Of course, I went there and had season tickets all four years. I was there. Couldn't name one player until two weeks ago. And now could. Yeah. Who's who's the point? And I have all these grandiose opinions about them. Right. I just it was just really nice to reconnect with some college friends because I went to the school and have no friends. But first, you can't do that. Now I know. Steven was like, No, can I do it? Yeah, go ahead. But first. Shout out to our friends at a sunny side. There you go. Greg loves sunny side. Yes, you do. I love you. I love you back, buddy. You too. Oh, good to have you here. Our friends. Hi guys at sunny side to Spets. All right. We're going to get some real changes, replacement reps, all the stuff coming out of the owner of his meetings, but just, just to wrap this up, cause we're not going to talk stadium again until the announced that they're going to Arlington Heights and made the 31st. That's my prediction to just jump ahead here. But real momentum seems to be going on with Indiana. Here comes George telling them the Republic is going to get over it. Kevin is telling everybody this is real. Bragg's even the biggest Illinois guy that they're going to end up in Illinois. Yesterday you had a little bit of a pivot. It's, you can just feel a little bit of a momentum or a Luke Cannellus who's very much buried or, you know, around house halls, got great content. He seems to think that there's something shifting. This is, this is, I think there's an actual, we could call it Indiana momentum here. Do you think right now what's today today, whatever it is, April the second, making your bet today. Do you, are you betting on Indiana? Hogue, Bragg's, Stephen, no, I'm betting on Arlington Heights. You still are betting on Arlington Heights. What I think is happening right now is I think people are just coming around to, to where I've been now since at least early January that Indiana is a real option. Like, will you acknowledge that now? Yeah. Okay. Absolutely. You, I know you feel that way now based on what you said the last couple of days. That was what people were struggling, I think struggling with and I totally get it. Like, ah, this is just a blob. It's just a, you know, it's just a leverage play. It's not, it's not a real thing. It's a real thing because the bears need a real thing. If the politics in Illinois, which in general are, which we've been saying since day one when Kevin Warren got here, there's ain't Minnesota anymore. Right? It's more complicated, especially when it comes to stadiums. I still though, you know, all the talk, all the talk even yesterday, their actions still suggest they are waiting around for Illinois to figure this out and they can at least wait until the end of May before they, you know, there's no need to make any decision before that. However, if it, if that doesn't happen now, they do have a real option. That's why I think I don't, so I don't know if it's necessarily Indiana momentum as much as it's just people really coming around to understanding that it is a real option. Yeah. I mean, I think Roger Godella is applying real pressure on the bears to make a decision and see, I read that as more as he was trying to pressure Illinois. Well, I think, okay, whatever it's both. I think at the end of the day, they want Chicago to have a stadium deal. All these other stadiums have gotten their stuff figured out in the time that the bears bought Arlington Park and pot, you know, postured for four years. You've had some cities agree on stadiums and have the stadiums fully built. You know, they're like done Buffalo and like there's Nashville is not far off. And Nashville is not exactly. And the progress has just been such a snail space here in Illinois. And you saw the pictures of Goodell, you know, during the playoff run, you know, going around with the bears front office to the different location potentials. And then, you know, obviously there was a lot of chatter and conversations of, you know, their presence at the combine and obviously the voting that went down in Indianapolis while we were down there. And now you're hearing here over the last couple days, Kevin Warren saying but not saying like, Hey, May 31 is when this is, you know, where the rubber is going to meet the road. Can Illinois come far enough to the middle of whatever needs to be agreed on by that point May 31st? I have, I have my hesitations in believing that. And I just think there's such a big sticking point with Chicago being left the bill to pay the rest of that stadium. And I just think it's hard for this state to swallow that pride and say, Okay, well, we'll pay for it. The bears aren't paying for it. Illinois doesn't want to pay for it. And at the end of the day, I think that's might be the biggest thing that becomes like the straw that breaks the camel's back. I guess my response to that though is why? Why? Because the ego, they're mad at each other. I got the bears paid their part. It was an agreement. The bears paid their part. Well, it's a huge debt, right? It's a huge debt. $532 million. But that's not the bears fault. And the state is in big debt. They're asking for the bears to help that even if that's the case. I mean, I'm not sure I'm no stadium expert. So I'm when I'm making these statements, they're just as much in the form of a question, but they are in an actual this is why I have reported and still, you know, stick stick to this, like it then they should have made this more of a priority last year, because I think the bears were more willing to help speed this along to that point a year ago. And it didn't even come to a vote. It barely got discussed. It certainly wasn't getting the momentum that it's getting now or the attention that it's getting now. And I, you know, I've been saying this for a couple months now that the state is going to get a worse deal. If this passes in the bears go to Arlington Heights, the state would have been better off doing this a year ago. And so I just, I think, and I think Kevin Warren made that very clear in his comments to me in the interview on Hogan Johns that they feel like they've paid their part. So to answer your question, Karm, yeah, I had to bet today. Yeah, I'd say Hammond. And I and I've gone back and forth on this for market down three months market down. And that could change it. Have you? I don't think you've been on the Indiana side. There's a difference between what I want to happen, which is Illinois versus what I think. So you're better. So Bragg's is on Hammond. Homes on Illinois. I'm hanging with Illinois. Stephen. Yeah, I'm still, I've been pretty consistent on this whole thing. I think it's going to be an 11th hour deal. And I still think it's going to be Arlington Heights. Okay, let's add this up. They're Indiana to put it probably over some too simplistic, but they're essentially offering them a free stadium, right? Okay, but they don't own right away and they have they potentially will over time. Go ahead. Right. Now, that was why one of my questions Kevin Warren was who gets the concert revenue in the meantime, he didn't really have an answer, but he certainly made it sound like it was open that the bears might get some of that. They're doing their due diligence. And once they get through the due diligence, the, the, the active due diligence, I believe is how he called it. Then they can, then they can talk about that. But, but, okay, but, okay, let me start over free stadium, more land closer to soldier field. You don't have to borrow $2 billion. Like, I know we have a lot of discussions in sports where we're like, these franchises are worth so much like who cares about the money. I don't care if your franchises were $10 billion borrowing $2 billion is still a big deal. Where are you getting that number? Exactly. I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm just trying to, they've said that's what they're going to say. They've said $2 billion is what they're going to for the stadium for like five years now to bill and Kevin or I'm sorry, George said the other day or yesterday, like they got to borrow that money and they are risked versus a family. Right. Okay. So my point is in comparing those two different situations just financially, wouldn't most be running across the border to Indiana right now? Well, this is the reason they're not. They're not yet. But they're waiting for Illinois to figure this out. I agree. I agree with that. But initially, I think it was more of my opinion of why they were waiting was George's pride of the embarrassment of losing the bears to Indiana from Illinois. But now I think it is different. I mean, if you're looking at a $3 billion, $2 billion project, whatever, you're going to have that there forever 40, 50 years, however long. This is in an area. That's why I appreciated you asking the environmental question because it's not just the ground. It's the air that right next door. Like if you look over the highway on the other side of the toll road is mills. They're nasty smoke. They're never going anywhere. So I just that part of it. You can you can sell all the financial wherewithal that it makes sense for them to go to Indiana. But then how are you going to sell that over a 40 year period that you're going to consistently churn that money out in an area where it's the steel mills? You'll get over the smell of rotten eggs. You love the bears. It's okay. Well, it'll be a dome. We'll give you we'll give you a mask from your car to the stadium. We'll create a tunnel. It'll be great. I mean, the only thing I would say though is in the mills, no airport nearby, no train going into it. Those are the big ones. Now maybe this is pie in the sky, but let's go there for a second. Okay, let's say best case scenario. This mega project gets built in Hammon. Okay, and it does exactly what Indiana hopes it does to that part of their state. We all move there. It revitalizes it. Gary becomes a viable airport. That's a stretch, but I'll go with you. I said it was pie in the sky. That's me. I'm not talking about tomorrow. I'm talking about in the 40 year window. We're talking about 40 years is a long time. Okay. Okay. The mills aren't ever going anywhere. It gets cleaned up. Why not? The mills. Have you ever been over there? It's a lot of mills. Like it's a huge. What do they make? They like one World War two from it. What do they make? Steel. They do a lot of things over there. It's a huge. I thought they all steel all moved out of there, which is why it's dead. It's the mills. What about the railcats? How do they do? No, I don't think the mills are going anywhere. The airport, okay, as much as I will never believe that they would build some kind of midway level airport where Gary International Airport is, whatever. Yeah, the mills are definitely not going anywhere. And the mills aren't in the same town. It's literally going to be their next door neighbors. All right. Well, Regulator out of nowhere. We missed you. Regulator. It's time for the Regulator. I totally understand where Regulator is coming. Hey, hey, for people listening to 20 dollars. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey you know you said Mills way too many times I've loved the mills out of nowhere today became the Mills day on the show the point of what I was trying to say though Jordan Mills is if we can revitalize Northwest Indiana isn't that a good thing for Chicago of course the add to the Chicago land you know you go to New Jersey it's not just that the Giants and the Jets play there there's you I've have you ever stayed over there I've stayed over there I got caught in a blackout once in New York City we walked 10 miles to our hotel in New Jersey after getting across the river like it's basically you go right over there to Hoboken or whatever it's New York City it's part of it's part of the area you barely know you're in a different state I went I've been to one Giants game in my life saw saw them play Washington and RG three it was a fun time we took the train out there there were 7000 million people getting off the train to go to that football game so when you talk about this equation is I'm trying to bring it around to what you're talking about it that was a key component to get into the game they don't have that in Hammond so maybe that will be part of your your home that's gonna be part of it though you're gonna rebuild it up we get the South Shore we're gonna get some big trains rolling in there we're gonna extend it past Millennium Park somehow we're gonna we're all gonna get on I took the train there for Manhattan to you had to take the subway to Penn Station I think take that train out there transfer once I got into Jersey to the other one that went straight to the stadium it wasn't the easiest thing in the world it took maybe 35 minutes total I'm not really sure but you did it hit the like button for multiple trains to Hammond I do enjoy with Kevin like wording is everything he is very politician like in that way but where he wouldn't say Hammond first he'd say Chicago land that was this very intentional and I do kind of laugh like the 9 millionth time I'll just continue to preface I wanted in Arlingtonites but I do find it funny where people are like you know Indiana the region Chicago and it's not Chicago when quite literally in the region is a town called East Chicago and another town called New Chicago like they're quite literally you know Chicago like it's not as new as it's less do you know the song but they do call it those which is ironic new Chicago can't wait I can't wait Chicago we can explore all of it played their first one more who played each one more shout out each one more shout out Kenny Lofton but who played their first ever game as a NBA player in East Chicago Horace Grant you don't know Jordan you don't know Jordan you're fake Jordan that's what you told me earlier Michael Jordan played his first ever game his first ever bowl game yep a preseason game in East Chicago yes sir why you don't know Jordan you're a fake Jordan fan you're a loser I you have no friends right now what what Greg is doing right now is because he said something completely Jordan erroneous earlier Which was embarrassing for Greg and now he's trying to dunk on me that I didn't know his first preseason game which is in East Chicago I'm gonna have to verify that because I don't think His first preseason game first preseason game Michael Jordan played his first Chicago Bulls home game at East Chicago Washington High School on October 9th 1984 it was a big moment for a player Your business in a preseason match against the Milwaukee Bucks played a high school gym Due to the school's proximity to Chicago this gym hosted The rookie's first home area appearance Why? That's amazing. Good job. I'm proud of you. I didn't know that. Thank you for teaching me. I wish I was there Uh It should have been do you know this you know this song by R. L. Guthrie or the city of new Orleans riding down the city of new Orleans It's a train No, it's a great tune. Okay. R. L. is amazing. So we could do like riding to the city Of Hammond like that's that I'll I'll work on that over the weekend I'm googling flights to Hawaii right now Leave a millennium park eight a.m Boom. Okay. Can I tell a story? Sitting there with Gregory P. Allen Thank you. So What was that Tuesday? I was on with you guys from Arizona And I and you asked me what I was gonna do the rest of my day and I was like, I don't know I'm thinking about going to the baseball game. Oh, yeah, you're gonna go to the diamond back in car made fun of me Because he couldn't name a diamond back. No, that's not why you made fun of me You paid fun of me for the idea of going to a baseball game. Well that seemed a little ridiculous You don't like sitting in a baseball stadium on a perfect 80 degree night with a beer in your hand like what you're just not you're just Like is of the million things I could have done in Arizona going to a diamond backs game is a was a bull tank But I'm proud of you. I'm proud of you What other million things would you have been doing when I had already climbed the mountain that morning? Oh, the climbing mountain was a good job by you. So if you were tired, then I would have considered You would have slept Is what you would have done. That's true. Anyway, that is true You did ask me if I could name a diamond back, which I couldn't then you asked me if I could name a tiger By the way, I don't think Javi Baez is a tiger. Maybe he is I'm not sure but He wasn't playing in the game Um, and I joked that Jason Benetti was the tiger that I can name Less than five minutes later Jason Benetti appeared before my eyes It's amazing. It was the weirdest thing he he's just standing right there and In front of me at the hotel at the owner's meetings and it was because the tigers were staying at the hotel And I hadn't seen Jason in a while. I know Jason because we used to do Well, he did sock stuff. I was vaguely sort of involved Doing pre and post like Carm was but we would see him at the ballpark all the time Jason's been a tremendous dude and Like the nicest human being who's So good at everything he calls but especially baseball and us white socks fans obviously dearly miss him In hate that he's with the division rival and there's not a single one of us that blames Jason at all We blame jerry um But anyway, he's there I'm talking to him and I'm like the funniest thing Jason because this is the type of thing that he would Appreciate I was like, I just said your name on our football show He's like what like I'm like because I was saying I was gonna go like I basically just told him the story I told you and I was so I'm like I'm thinking about coming tonight and he goes Come I'll leave you a ticket There it is come hang out That's big. I'm like Okay, I'm in now because I wasn't totally committed but jason benetti stayed there offering me a ticket. I'm going um and And I went and also solo Well, I did go by myself. I found out though that jason leisure was also going solo You and leisure went to the bears the diamond backs tigers game. We did solo solo together How long did you guys sit together most of the game? It was a tremendous buy you a beer Did he buy you a beer? Really? No, I already had a beer by the time I found him. Did you guys? Oh, okay What what I grabbed a beer on my way in he was already there fascinating jason got there super early He like watched batting practice. He watched the roof open. Probably the roof was open It's a great stadium with the roof open. I'd only been in there with it closed. It was awesome I enjoyed it. It was a tremendous baseball game the tigers were up five nothing the diamonds came all the way back Apparently they had some rookie playing in this first game ever that hit two home runs I didn't realize that in the moment that that's who that was um It was great Arizona, you know, I enjoyed it plus with the new rules game started at 640 I was out of there by nine. I was in my hotel room by 10 Well rested to wake up the next morning. How much was the uber from the stadium to your hotel? I had a rental car. Oh, okay. I see not the nicest of the nicest ones That one technically I think was above my level, but they give you like a work Like exception if you're only there for like a week or something so some different observations From the chat the iceberg is back. That's big. That's big. Wait a minute. That's Because he was there when I left am I the iceberg? That's what was brought up while you were gone. So it's kind of weird that you're saying that right now That was a super chat. Well, if it was the why would I say it? Well, that's exactly what to try to throw us off the scent So that is weird that you just said that because it was a super chat that That you are the iceberg and then the other one too is illinois jones has been going at you pretty hard calm for You owe him something and this has been an everyday affair in the chat that you haven't paid your debts. Yeah, I don't um You owe him like a jordan thing Your ability is something. I'm not exactly sure what illinois jones is referring to Um, I think I know what this is. Now. He's don't talk about pizzer jones. I gotta say Uh, he does look like a guy. I don't want to mess with that's for sure. So, uh, Uh, pizza jones pizza jones as in pizzatola. He's he's saying that he's the new pizzatola because he's mad at me So I but it says pizza jones Pizza jones Illinois jones. Well, I will find you on one of these social media things He doesn't subscribe for premium x. I don't know. I'm not sure what I owe Apparently I well what what what do you think this is? All right, so that that show that I didn't do that that friday You randomly pulled out a bunch of jordan memorabilia and one of them was a poster Yeah, and you said something like i'll send something to somebody if they could guess the three atlanta hawks in this photo Oh, it's that one. I think that's what this is Okay, there was like six people that all commented on that one. So I've got it now. I gotta figure out, uh, the situation here illinois jones But you put your address somewhere. Oh, yeah, he named you said who can name these three guys in this picture And illinois jones got it right. That's what it was. That's still one of the best nicknames out there because herb howard was in arizona and he he introduced johns to people as papa johns Because he has so many kids he calls him papa johns It's one of the best nicknames that exists I had a lot of fun today hoag. It's really great that you're back Um, it was you know, I thought that greg learned a lot while you were gone He did about I didn't per do Well, we can't believe you guys aren't bringing up what happened to Wisconsin He was gonna like I thought that's what the gift was gonna be. I thought Not the horse blinders. I thought it was gonna be a high point shirt. That's because he said that's what he was gonna do Well, I just I said that the first time I talked to you is that I was gonna ask you with a high point if your vacation was You did actually make that I already did that I did that joke. So that's why I didn't bring it back. So Um, yeah, greg you would have struggled in that moment If it was per do you I mean you you've you've been there, but you were also a one seed not a five um Okay, okay But there's a big difference there. So not that I want anybody to feel sorry for me I don't but just to take you in the moment. So that was our first morning in Maui The tip off was 7 50 a.m. Because of the time difference because once again, they love giving Wisconsin the first game on thursday every year um It was pouring rain outside So I couldn't even be anywhere else if I wanted to be So i'm sitting in a hotel room in hawaii pouring rain With scots that lose us the high point So it was the low point of the vacation it was it was a great game with them Well, when that high point played the greatest basketball game i've ever seen for the six minutes that I watched they were unbelievable When when that jerk pulled up from the logo Every wisconsin fan knew what was happening. We we've been there. We happened against cornell It happened step people forget stef curry beat us in the sweet 16 The the magical year with davidson We had a good team that year like it's like which one of these deadly shooters Is just gonna go off and never and I wasn't happy because I felt like Wisconsin was the one team that might be able to upend Arizona Yeah, because I didn't want no part of arizona clearly. I should we've had that was I did pick arizona beat Wisconsin though I wasn't that crazy. It had been a tough building But at least you guys have the firepower to at least try I did text sol instead. You're welcome for losing the high point It definitely helped there put them on a nice path to the elite eight Who gave them everything the positive side was When I go to hawaii, I don't really want to watch sports at all and so They lost on the first morning. I was there and like the first game of the tournament and I was like Well, the positive is I don't have to plan around this on saturday or anything and I I see that's what you do You always find so naturally you went to a baseball game That was different. I was at work. That was a work trip. Okay while I was in hawaii. I did not watch another and I I mean, I don't I don't think I watched a single second of the ncd. W. A. Tournament garden hoser here in the chat Saying calm big time me on facebook And called me gape and not garden hoser when he responded after four days Undelivered what is this the blasphemy of what is going on in the chat right people that like the receipts are being pulled on you Yeah, no, I know I don't believe the the the loyal viewers I don't uh, I don't ever communicate with our fans on discord I never write back everybody on instagram. You're getting on my list now too I might I might not do it immediately I don't because lord knows anytime you go on facebook. You're taking your life in your hands these days So I try to stay away from it as much as possible But but when I do get around to it, do I not and if I called you gape it was probably it could have been a situation with Auto correct there garden. Yay. So you settle down Boom bots too where that was going for a minute close Be not hidden the chat. You know t3 p will be back the he's on the justin's on the chiefs now So I don't know there seemed to be a pretty strong correlation of uh him disappearing as kala williams started making these magical throws And come back after come back after come back after come back all of a sudden that guy disappeared hit the like button for kala Williams magic thing I loved about your interview too. Um, oh, thank you. It was great a couple interviews was listening to george talk about ben johnson Yeah, um and all the different words he would define ben as We are so lucky to have ben johnson Yeah, we are if i'm being critical of myself and you guys know I can be i'm kind of a perfectionist and I was whining to Stephen about this yesterday It wasn't totally thrilled with my performance in that interview if I could have uh, I kind of wish I'd reverse the Maybe started off with some of the more fun stuff Ben johnson packer stuff and then got into the stadium Stuff that you could have worn him up feeling tense because you're going at him or something. No No, he was a sweet hoe. I just feel like the interview and maybe it's better that the interview like peaks later I don't know But it just that was to me. I thought that was the best stuff and it was later I thought it was fine. No, thank you. But yes, I I agree with you that I I liked I really I love the way he said about the rivalry and Um poll said some great comments too about like ben johnson's infusion He did a great job.
