Hey Bible readers, I'm Miss Emily, and this is the Bible Recap. For kids! Today's Bible Burst! Genesis 41, 52 says, Joseph named his second son Ephraim, for he said, God has made me fruitful in this land of my grief. Pharaoh, the leader of Egypt, needs some of his dreams interpreted. Joseph tells Pharaoh that his dreams mean there will be seven years of feasting in Egypt, followed by seven years of famine. Joseph warns Pharaoh that they need to prepare for the famine years during the feast years, so Pharaoh puts Joseph in charge of this. After 13 years in slavery and prison, Joseph is free. Pharaoh gives Joseph riches, an important job, and even a wife. Like Joseph said would happen, the years of abundance come first, and that's a word to remember. Word to remember! Abundance means having more than enough blessings. When the famine comes, Joseph's dad and brothers don't have enough to eat, so his brothers travel to Egypt to buy grain. They go to talk to the man in charge, who's their brother, Joseph. It's been a long time since they sold him as a slave, and they don't recognize him. Joseph puts one of the brothers in prison and sends the rest back to get their older brother, Benjamin. Benjamin had stayed back home with their father. Joseph overhears the brothers confessing their guilt and regret to each other, and he secretly takes the money they paid him for grain and puts it back in their bags. God is so generous. He is with Joseph and takes care of him during his time in slavery, and he is even with Joseph's sinful brothers during the famine. Joseph grows to be respected in the country that made him a slave. Then he gives free grain to his brothers who sent him there. God was so generous with Joseph. He was generous with Joseph's brothers and he's generous with us today. He's where the joy is.
