Hey Bible readers, I'm Miss Emily and this is the Bible Recap. For kids! Today's Bible Burst! In 2 Samuel 15, 25 and 26, David says, If the Lord sees fit, He will bring me back to see the ark and the tabernacle again. But if He is through with me, then let Him do what seems best to Him. Today's reading is full of sin and sadness. It's also pretty confusing, so here are the important details to remember. Amnon, David's older son, sins horribly against his half-sister Tamar. He ruins her life. Tamar grieves for what has been taken from her and tells her brother Absalom about what had happened. Absalom is filled with hatred and he sins by having Amnon killed. Now that Amnon is gone, Absalom is the oldest son. He wants to be Israel's king and he sins by trying to kick his father David off the throne. He gets a lot of people on his side, including one of David's closest advisors, Ahithophel. When David realizes what is being plotted against him, he escapes Jerusalem. He trusts that God will bring him back to Jerusalem if God has more work for him to do there. God is sovereign. You've heard it before, but let's hear it again. It is such an important word to remember. Word to remember. Sovereign means to have power and authority over someone or something. God has ultimate power and authority over everyone and everything he's created. Even when God's people lie and steal and kill, his perfect plan can't be stopped. God had a plan to bring the Savior, his Son, into the world through David's family. And like only David could, he worked out the timing so perfectly that David was able to stay safe and flee from danger. No matter what the sin is, God is still in control. He's sovereign and he's where the joy is.
