Summary

The Viall Files hosts preview their Wi-Fi Plus deep dive episode analyzing the "Scamanda" scandal involving reality TV personalities Wes and Sierra from Summer House. The discussion centers on Wes's pattern of leading on Sierra for over two years while simultaneously pursuing Amanda, with hosts debating whether his behavior constitutes intentional manipulation or typical relationship messiness.

Insights
  • Distinguishing between 'players' (who manipulate emotions for physical intimacy) and 'fuckboys' (who are upfront about not wanting relationships) reveals that Wes exhibits player behavior by maintaining false hope with Sierra while pursuing others
  • Repeated patterns of behavior across multiple people (Sierra, Amanda, Lindsay, Jesse) indicate intentional choice rather than confusion, especially at age 30
  • Public perception can shift dramatically when new information emerges, but retrospective analysis shows warning signs were present from the beginning
  • Social circles amplify relationship drama by creating false hope narratives (wedding talk, double dates) that enable continued manipulation
  • Directness and honesty in early relationship stages, even if rejecting someone, is preferable to prolonged ambiguity that keeps someone emotionally invested

Him and Wes are two different people though. Like I don't know that Wes, like Wes isn't going to be like he's going to have to do a lot more than Carl in quotes did. But Wes doesn't want to either. You know what I mean? Like Wes doesn't have an issue. But I guess my point is up until like two months ago before this whole Amanda of it all, we even watching him like lead on Sierra for two years. Well, while I was like, I don't know, fuck this relationship. You all, maybe not you, Sarah. I don't know. But Leia, Mary, when we were watching early parts of summer house, you all were just like the cast of summer house being like, oh my God, I love them. And like, and Wes was talked about is this like really likeable, really charming, really desirable man of Bravo. And oh my God, he's also talking about politics and like, oh my God, he's also younger. Like, you know, Carl's never gotten love like that. You should have seen me when he came here. You know, he He got love like that for me. Oh yes, I do. You were definitely thought of. I was fan girlie guy was like, oh my God, and I got a photo. He's so tall. Can I share my hot take that I've been trying to formulate? Please. In my head over the week or two of summer house. I don't think my opinion of Wes has changed given this new information of him with Amanda. And I say that because I've always seen him as a hot person, but I've always seen him as a person that could do this. So like, well, everybody's like, I hate Wes. I hate Wes. I'm surprised by Wes. The whole time I've been like, is that not the West we've always known? Like, so I my opinion, I don't see him as higher. I don't seem as lower. I just seem as literally the same West that we've always seen on TV. I see what you're saying. I'm not shocked. I think it's just more I'm sure if you listen to this show, you've been a diehard. You know that like when when the first drama on the first reunion with Wes and Sierra, I was definitely like more team West. That was based off the information that how I was receiving it, which was they were in the situation chip in West at some point pretty quickly was like, yo, I'm like, I just, I don't think I'm ready for a relationship. I don't know if I want a relationship. And I took that as him setting up for an expectations. And then there was a whole wedding stuff. And that was just more like, you know, not that I didn't have empathy for Sierra, but it was just more like, I just don't know if this guy did something all that bad because he was upfront and honest, which like, again, like you're allowed to be confused. You're allowed to be messy in relationships. But now that I'm, you know, I'm probably projecting because it's just like now I almost kind of regret that stance, but I think it has more to do with like, again, now there's a pattern here. Now there's like, this has been going on for two and a half years. Like West had one shot to be like, yo, I think maybe I didn't realize just how invested she was. And I maybe took that for granted. And it certainly wasn't intentional, but clearly I heard her feelings and I feel really bad about that. So I'm going to move differently. The fuck he did. You know what I'm saying? Like he just like, you know, took it and doubled it for the next double fucking dick. He quadrupled it. He was just like, this is this last scene where it's just like, or the last episode in Sierra is just like, because you're stupid and they're hugging. And it's just like, this is, you guys aren't, Sierra is not talking about being just friends. No, it's so fucking obvious, you know, and then their entire friend group is like, are they going to get married? They're going to fall in love. There was a double date. And you can almost tell like he's so obsessed with like everyone liking them that he can, you know, that's like that he just, he just won't give a fuck. And so I think, well, I agree with you. I'm not surprised that it did this. I'm definitely far more critical because it was like, yo, like I had your back and I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt that you were just like, people are allowed to be confused. People are allowed to change their mind. They're allowed to stop liking people. But like you get one chance at like doing that without it being really fucking inconsiderate and not giving a fuck about their feelings. What about him telling Ben and whoever else that he has a crush on? That's crazy. It's like, that's what I'm saying. And then it's like, you know that that shit's going to get, get around. How quickly a shit gets around the summer house. He's the master breadcrumber orbiter. Like he keeps his orbit. He does. He's, he's, he's the little fires everywhere, but hands off. Like literally. Like he's the one that like he's like with Lindsay and Sierra and Jesse. Yeah. He's like, I don't want to, I'm not going to cock block my friend and I don't want to make Jesse feel like I care if he hooks up with Sierra. So I'm going to get Lindsay to do it. Nick, I'm honestly really curious because I truly cannot comprehend doing that to somebody the way West is doing. And maybe it's just because I'm not a man. So I'm just like, how like, like it doesn't compute my rent to like. I mean, I mean, but I literally could never and would never. And I've just literally, I've never been that guy. I mean, even in high school, way back in the day, I was always like, I'm, you know, you guys, I'm, I'm direct. I was like, I remember, I remember being smart enough in high school when girls would be like, so what is this going to be? And we were like literally making out. We were like going to second base. And I was like, yo, I don't want anything. I just want to make out with you. And I always remember like the girls being in high school being like, oh, okay, thanks for being honest, you know, but I, you know, it was just like, I, I've always had that personality and it always has blown my mind. That's why I always like, you know, when it used to be players, not fuckboys, like that was like, you know, we would call like, you know. And so I, to me, that word still has meaning. And to me, I always thought players is men who will like leverage their feelings to get what they want when it comes to like physical intimacy. We're like a fuckboy is this like, yo, I just want to fuck and I'm going to be uprooted and honest with me. Like I don't want a girlfriend to keep it real. And if you like, if you have feelings for me, I need to shut this down because there's other people I can fuck who don't have feelings for me. But like, I don't want to fuck with your feelings where players would be like, I'll buy you the gifts. I'll take you to weddings. I'll make you feel like we have a thing going on and I would be deceitful. And yada, yada, yada. And we've and like that's that's what like that's what West is, you know, he can't that's what West is doing. And I think I'm just like at the risk of someone being frustrated and disappointed with them and and again, and also to remove access. He he wants to keep access to Sierra. He wants to be able to do this at his convenience. And so he like, again, Suze, hurry makes her feel better, you know, and like at some point as a 30 year old man, it's it's not oops. It's it's a choice. You're like you you're, you know, 30 year old. He's intentional. It's it's like, but how do you do that to so many people, so many different times and not like it doesn't. I feel like the fuck boy part of West with like Sierra is very common. And like, in my opinion, everybody's been a fuckboy at least once in their life, girls, guys and everybody else. Yeah, but it's the part where his operation with Sierra, the second round with Amanda in it is the part where I'm like, people don't just do that. No, that's that's like just someone who doesn't care about the collateral damage. Yeah.
