The next, stay alive in the race for the number two seed in the East by beating the Celtics 112 to 106. Jason Tate has returned to Madison Square Garden where last year during the playoffs he tore his Achilles, Josh Hart scored 15 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter. He did two dagger three point shots to give the Boston a six point win. Jalen Brunson 25 points, 10 assists. JT, Jason Tatum finished with 24 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists. The Knicks pulled within two games of the Celtics with two games to play for both teams. The Knicks on the tiebreaker because they beat the Celtics and they had three to one. And they beat the number two seed with two wins and two Boston losses. So Boston wins one game. They host New Orleans on Friday and Orlando on Sunday. So if they win one of these final two games, they're the number two seed. The Knicks I believe will be the number three seed if they win out. The Knicks host Toronto on Friday and close out against Charlotte on Sunday. Joe watching this game look, the Knicks were ahead comfortably. They were ahead by 12 points at one point in time. And the next thing you know, Boston ended up having a six point lead. Shimon got hot from three, JT hit a couple of threes, Pritchett hit a couple of threes. But Joe, what did you like about what you saw from the Knicks? Having the lead, giving up the lead and then finding a way to win this. Well, they knew that, you know, with Boston being without JB, Jalen Brown. Okay, Ocho, you got to take advantage of that, bro. Now, I know you ain't looking at the Skyrim report and saying, Shimon are going to go seven for eight from the field, six for seven for three. You know what I mean? But boy, hey, he called five. I like how Tatum played. Obviously, you know, he was ultra aggressive. You look at Peyton Pritchett and them guys coming off the bench, man. They going to be, ooh, Boston going to be something else in the postseason, man. When they fully healthy, all got Ocho, they can be anybody in the East. Matter of fact, they might, they could potentially come out of the East. You know, I'm talking about a team that's tested. Tatum getting more comfortable. Been there, done that. Tatum getting more comfortable, you know, in his ability to get back to where he was playing championship caliber basketball. Man, it was fun to watch, but New York, New York, man, they made some runs. I thought Brunson played great. Towns picked it up. If it weren't for Josh Hart, they wouldn't have won that game tonight. He had two big threes. And look, if that means, and when you see what they did, they got the ball out of Jalen Brunson's hand. If somebody else beat me, or guys, I can, thanks for I'm a little with that. I just know, I just know Jalen Brunson ain't going to hit those shots. Hey, hey, if Josh Hart hits those and he hits two, I mean, he stepped up. Now the first one hit the clock was kind of running back down. But that last one that he hit, he shot down confidence. He said, Kimmy, I got your last time. I'm going to get you again. And he held it up there. So I like what I saw also. Ocho, what you think? What you think about the next one? Listen, nobody really liked my basketball take, but I'm going to give you one anyway. Yeah, we like it. We like your basketball. I appreciate it, Joe. But obviously, listen, the game of basketball, what I've come to learn in my short time of learning the game, it's a game of runs. Uh, uh, Joe and I, you know, just like, just like football, it's all about momentum. Obviously, in this game, the Celtics went on runs and obviously, Nick's went on runs. And I think for the Nick's sake, they're sick. But JB not playing, they really needed this game. And Josh hard stepped up. If I'm not mistaken, the last game he played, he only had but two, maybe three points or something like that for the fact that he was able to step up and hit those big shots when they needed it most. And I think the Celtic did a good job getting the ball out of Brunson's hands. And like Ong said, if other players, the supporting cast for the Nick's is going to hit those shots, you just going to have to be able to live with that. Hey, but when you look at it, Ocho, Boston didn't really shoot the ball great outside of, what's his name? Schadenheimer. Schadenheimer coming, Schadenheimer coming off the bench. You know, he was Ocho. He was, he was unconscious and Peyton Pritchard shot 50%. But Tatum seven for 22. And when you look at the Knicks, man, they were, I mean, they shot the cover off the ball. Brunson shot it with 54%. So, you know, it ain't going to be many games that Josh Hart going to lead them, Nick's and scoring. Matter of fact, this might have been the only game he had done it all season. And if we just keep it 100, you know what I mean? So, yeah, Boston, Boston is in a good spot, man. In a good spot. They ain't worried about nothing. They sitting comfortable, comfortably. And when they get healthy going into the postseason, they don't want to see them boy, man. I think when you look at the bench points, they got, they got 53 points from the bench. You look at Shimon, he had 27 of eight from the floor, six or seven from three. You look at Pritchett, 10 of 20 from the floor, three or eight from three. Boosevich, four, seven from the floor, two or four from three. I think they're going to need a little bit more from Derek White. The last couple of games, Joe, he's kind of been hit or miss. He's been quiet. And when he's in double figures, because you know what JB and JT going to give you on a lively basis. You know Pritchett, what he's going to give you. He's averaging 16 points, basically 17 points a game, whether he's in the starting lineup or he's coming off the bench. So, I'm penciling in him somewhere between 15 and 20 points. That's what I'm penciling on. Or Pritchett in for. If he gives me more than that, I love it. I'm not counting on him giving me less than 15, but if he gives me more than 20, I'll graciously accept it. But somewhere in that 15 to 20 ballpark, that's normally what he does. Now, my big guns, I'm going to need those guys to go off on a consistent basis. One or the other, I love to have both of them do it there. But, Howzer didn't shoot the ball well tonight. Like you said, I'm not counting on Shimon. He can let it go now. I don't know how many games you watched him, but that left handed Joker can let the ball fly. He looked good tonight. So I'm talking about. I mean, he would come. Hey, Joe, he would let that fan go and turn around to the crowd. Yeah. He's got your game. Hey, look, look, you know, playing in New York, that's like playing in LA. Like people, like guys get up for those games. You know what I'm saying? Like they look the green. Yeah. It brings the best out of you. And you can tell the night he got it going and he started talking to the crowd. He really started feeling himself and it was fun. It was fun to watch him. You know, get on a heater like that. And I'm like, man, listen, if he can get him some consistency like this, I ain't saying he going to go six for seven from the field and be that efficient. But man, if you can be a reliable guy, we can go to when JB or JT getting double team, you know, down the stretch or just throughout the game. I think he can definitely be beneficial for the Celtics. Yeah, but that's the thing. They're being outstanding because normally you'll probably, I mean, how's somebody's going to be coming up the bench. You know, Pritchett is coming up the bench. You know, Shaman is coming up the bench and you know, both of these guys can get on heater. Pritchett can do it all. Pritchett drive the ball. He got a light, many a he put the shoulder into your bump. He can snatch. He can shoot the three ball. He's great. He's great in all aspects. Shaman is looking to shoot the three ball. How's it looking to shoot the three balls? Although how we saw how the other night, he put the ball before he got to the meeting. Yeah, letting it go. But when those big two, I believe if everybody plays their best basketball in the Eastern Conference, if everybody plays to their capabilities, I don't believe a team can beat the Boston Celtics. That's just me, Joe. You might think Detroit can do it. You might think the Knicks can do it. You think the Cavaliers. Now, I don't think there are no unbeatables in the Eastern Conference. I don't think I don't think Boston's unbeatable. I don't think Detroit's unbeatable. I don't think the Cavs are unbeatable. I don't think the Knicks are unbeatable. OK, I just wanted you to clarify that. You said nobody can beat the Boston Celtics when they're on full field. I think everybody plays their A game. Out of the East, you meant? Yes. OK, OK, OK. I think everybody plays their A game in the Eastern Conference. Right. I think Boston is the best team in the Eastern Conference. That's just me, Joe. What do you think, Joe? I totally agree with you now. If Tatum wasn't back, I wouldn't say that. Oh, no, no, no, no. But since Tatum has came back and obviously it was question marks because we didn't know how he was going to look coming back, you know, in such a short time and such a short stint. Go ahead, Ocho, what you got? Hold on, hold on, Uncle Joe, you heard what y'all just said. What? Y'all said if Tatum didn't come back, y'all wouldn't still the thing that still feel the same way about the Celtic. No, I was. No, because because everybody else got two guys that can go off. OK, everybody else. Bronson and Kat can go off. You got Harden and you got Donovan Mitchell can go off. You got Cade Cunningham. You got Durin can go off. I know those are guys that have been all stars, that have been all NBA selection players with Jason Tatum back. Now you got JB and JT. Both guys have been Eastern Conference MVP. JB has been an MVP in the finals and you have guys, those role players. Now, I believe the Boston Celtics have the deepest. Oh, no, right. When you look at what they have, they got Pritchard, they got Sharmid and they got other. I think they have the best bench and those two proven guys, JB and JT are the most proven come playoff time based on what they've done. Getting to a NBA finals and winning an NBA finals. OK, but but I have a question on the joke. Listen, before JT came back, let's look at what the Celtics were. We're just Jalen Brown at the helm holding the ship, steering the ship, keeping that ship afloat before Jason Tatum came back. The guy themselves was still second in the game. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So you still you still don't you still don't have confidence in them. Still being able to do come out the East. If they were already second and Jason Tatum won. Yeah, I saw I saw him last year. There was no more seed and got what and got what happened with JB and JT and what happened there was Luther and people look at like what JT went down. There was getting smoked before he got down. The next was kicking and and when you look at it, Ocho, is if you just got JB out there by himself with no Tatum, man, you can kind of you can kind of. Yeah, you can load up and control the game, double him on pick and rolls, double him when he cross half court and make these other guys beat you. Now, when you got two guys who could go for 40, 50 points on any given night. Now you got your hands full. You know what I mean? He got plenty of help and you know, JB a two way player, bro. So he going to expand a lot of energy on both hands in the court. Energy on both hands. Yeah, he ain't going to his game ain't just predicated off making shots. You know what I'm saying? He going to be disruptive defensively. He going to be in a pass lane. He going to get steals. He going to pick you up full court, but he can only do all of that. If he has another counterpart who he know he can he can rely on with you, Jason Taylor, somebody that can load on off. There you go. Right. Because you got to realize if they're playing if they're playing Cleveland, he's going to have to take James Harden to Donald Mitchell. Jerry White's going to take the other, but he's got to take one of those. I think he's probably going to happen. Do they put the question is, do they put him on K or do they put JB on K? I think they I mean, they're white. Because he's going to have to he's going to have to do something with one of those. And so when you deal with and Brunson, you'd probably put Derek White on Brunson to try to tire him down, but you probably have to miss, you know, run, you know, do some different things. Because I think the thing once you get to this level, those guys, you can't give a guy a steady diet of anything. They'll build it's like medicine. If you continuously take a dose of medicine, you build up a resistance to it. And you got to take strong and strong doses of it. If you throw these great players, the continuous same look and have a guard guard them the same way. These guys too good. And just like a guy who laughs up like the rate we played a rate of the oak rate of Kansas City, you already know what they're going to do. What they're going to do? Oh, right here in your face, man, man, they ain't going to go into the huddle. Like, they tell you the defense. They like, nah, I got you and he got him. They play you man football, Joe. You got that man. Hey, look, that's how JB going to play. If they play against Cleveland, he going to guard James Harden. He going to pick him up full court, kind of like he did Luca in the finals a year and kind of wear him down. Yes. You know what I mean? JB understands. He understands his road to the tee, bro. He know offensively, you know, he going to get you to work from 2235 a night. That's just I know it's a big gap. But by anywhere from 2235 a night, but he's also going to make it hell on one of your toughest offensive players, you know, meaning picking them up full court the whole game and then by the fourth quarter, hopefully he didn't die down a little bit. You don't want him out. So right Boston got a good strategy, bro. I like Boston would take them back looking looking the way he's looking. Sh, you you. But that's that's the luxury of having Joe two guys because if you go back and look at the bulls, what did they have? They had a six foot seven long arm defender that could guard anybody from Magic to Isaiah to Gary Payton to Kevin Johnson. It did not matter. It's so Clyde Drexler. So Jordan could take somewhat of a break on defense. Kobe, who did have he had B Shaw? He had Rick Fox. He had Metta. LeBron, he had a Shane Badi, or he had a real Jefferson or he had J.R. So when you when you have someone is like, OK, they got defenders over there. Now there have been times that look, he just had to deal with the D. He had to deal. He had some point time in the fourth quarter. He got to deal with Katie or some time in the fourth quarter. He got to deal with Hawaii. Yeah, the way it is when the rubber needs to meet the road. Hey, I appreciate what you all been doing. Thank you very much. But I'm going to get from here. Yeah. And I think that's the luxury that the Celtics have that very few teams have. They I mean, they got they got guys that can score. But you got a Derek White and you got a J.B. That that has no problem taking the tough defensive assignment because they understand, let me put do all we can and they'll trade off. You see Derek White try to deal with hard. You see J.B. Try to deal, try to slow down Mitch in vice versa to keep him giving them different looks. Hey, guess what? We're traveling. We'll bless you. We want to get the ball out. Hey, we're going to make some make it swing. Yeah. But it's going to be a great, it's going to be a great match up to see what I will see how this thing shakes out when it's all said and done. Because we we kind of know like the top four, we'll see what Orlando can do. We'll see what Toronto can do and see how this thing plays out to the bottom. I think this year I would have a little bit more confidence had Van Carrol played a little bit better and they had Wagner and then throughout the entirety of the season, but they haven't. They kind of been up and down all year long. Toronto's kind of been the same. Toronto's going on a stretch where they won six, seven games in a row. And then all of a sudden they fall by the wayside, but they still got B.I. They got Scardy Barnes. They got guys that can, you know, that can that can do a little something. But I'm still I still say if everybody plays their A game. I think Boston's the best. Yeah, you're right. I mean, even even if you look back on those Bulls teams, especially in 91, when they say when they play the Lakers Magic now and the finals. Yeah, you look if you go back, Ocho and you watch the Bulls in 91, when they play the Lakers in the finals, watch how Jordan and Scotty Pippen guarded Magic Johnson, bro. They picked him up full court and they made they wore him down, bro. And that's the same thing that that Boston has right now with Jalen Brown and Jason Tatum, you know, I'm saying they understand they roll. They understand they both pack a punch offensively, but defensively is where they got to hang they hadn't worked ultimately. You know, they're going to be able to win ball games because if I'm scoring 30 and I'm giving up 30, hell, that's a watch. You know what I mean? That is what they want. Yeah, that is what they want. See, if athletic is Jordan, you got to realize Magic still six nine and Magic had to be at that point in time, Magic had developed that baby. Yeah. Look. So now he gets you down on the block. You had his mercy. He had mercy and they still have big game James Worthy. So it was it was and they's like, you know what? Scotty, because Scotty realized that he wasn't going to have to have to handle the offensive load. You're asking Jordan to exert a lot to take their best player on one end while still giving you the same production on the other end. Yeah. Yeah. That's that's that's that's that's it. It is. That's it. Those guys were determined back then, man, they was going to make it happen. It was going to do whatever they had to. But you're and then and then, you know, you had Ron. No, Ron was the second one, but you had your grant. So you had another defender. And so that's what normally the really good teams do. They have multiple defenders. That's what makes OKC so good. Yeah, they've got three, four, five wing defenders that they can throw at you. They just keep running them. They just keep running them at you. Hey, eventually you don't wear it out. Ain't no way you gonna be no saw. You right. OKC. That's that's definitely how they play. That's how they played over the past. I would probably say three years, arch and ocean. They consistent. Yes. They've been consistent with that. Although those guys can score the ball. They know in order for them to win, man, they got to sit in that chair and guard that ball, you know, and they do it. I'm trying to think that the time maybe once in his career that he's into the postseason and he's been healthy in his career. And he's been in the league 10, 10 years. One time of all those years, because we see what boy, when he's healthy the regular season, where he had to deal with. Wait, wait, hold on. Has there been a season if he's been in the league 10 years? I'm not sure how many years he's been in the league. Has he had a complete season? We've been able to play 80 82 game season or is he gonna play 82 game? And he ain't gonna ever play 82 game because of the side. There were a couple of seasons, oh, Joe, where Joe, when you remember that he was having MVP caliber year, he didn't have any one that he was playing probably 68 70 games. OK, OK, OK. But but then come play off time. Me, because remember last year he was like, what was it? Last year or two years ago that he was like barely get that might have been. Was that last year? Might have been last year. Might have been two years ago that he was like. 30 looked like he's about 40 years. Yeah, yeah. But when he's when look when he's healthy and that's a big win and that's probably why, you know, they haven't enjoyed the success that they look that they wanted to have. But when Harden was there because he couldn't stay healthy. And then when it had been similar, he had some issues and then Ben had the issue with the Hawks and they had the issue with the Hawks and they ended up losing to the Hawks and seven games. And I said that they're never going to be the same. It's over for them. They're going to break that team up. I said, Joe, I said, Ben Simmer, come on. For Doc to say what he said, for Joe, I said what he said. Right. I said it. I said, oh, man, you don't know what you're talking about. I said, OK. And if you go back and look at OKC, they would still win it even without Shay. It ain't like they dropped like 10 games without Shay. So it's it. I think when you look at it though, OKC has been the number one seed for the past three years, fellas. You know what I mean? So that's saying a lot. So I think I give a little ish to Shay because of the consistency that OKC has played with over the years and obviously still being dominant, having the best record this season. That means a lot.
