from lenexa to lee's summit you're listening to mundo in the morning on 95 7 fm kcmo talk radio 7 49 on a monday morning starting the week off chilly but we'll be warming up by the end of the week heck tomorrow we're going to be pushing 60 degrees meantime i'm staring at a blizzard up in the northeast they're getting like two feet of snow up there so not jealous of those folks in that part of the country it's that time of the week on a monday let's do it it's time for the good the bad and the ugly i've been telling you for two weeks that i've enjoyed the olympics i've enjoyed watching it with my daughters they've been into it enjoy the idea of rooting for america I use it as a geography lesson as well as much as anything else, right? It's a chance to explain to them where each country is and, you know, celebrating and going rah-rah for this country. There's a lot of this that I think is easily relatable and is fun for little kids. And that's why I enjoyed it so much. I know that there are reasons to be outraged over things that certain Olympians may say. But by and large, I thought it was a great couple of weeks. The ratings were up double digits from four years ago. Team USA Hockey obviously wins the gold medal with a 2-1 victory over Canada yesterday. And then Mike Tirico of NBC Sports closes the Olympics in an absolutely poetic and perfect way. So for all the young people out there, not just the hockey, but all the Olympics you've watched, those dreams are formed now. Go chase him and go get him because our country loves sports and it brings us together unlike anything else. And if you didn't know that, if you haven't been watching the last two weeks, you saw it in Team USA Hockey, winning the gold over there are tribal Canada here in Milan to wrap up these 25th Olympic Winter Games. How many impressionable young men and women are the Olympians of tomorrow in part because of what they watched, not just yesterday, but over the last couple of weeks. And by the way unless you were on social media you didn know about some of the bizarre comments and maybe somewhat political comments that were made by certain Olympians You don If you 10 11 12 years old you not watching the press conferences where some of those comments were made. You don't even know about them. What you watched, what you did see was American greatness on display. That's what you saw. You saw the United States finish second in overall medals with 33 to Norway, finished second with 12 golds to Norway's 18. How about Norway? My gosh, on a per capita basis, Norway's cleaning up. That's what you saw. And coming off of the Super Bowl, which sadly had a lot of, you know, cultural drama and debate attached to it, the Olympics, outside of a couple of dopey press conference comments that went viral on social media, there wasn't a lot of that. America did really well. we did things we had not done in nearly half a century like winning gold in men's hockey also won the gold in women's hockey let's not forget that finished second in overall medals and golds and then mike tariko closing it beautifully yesterday from milan i loved everything about those last couple of weeks and uh i hope we can get something similar with the world cup i don't think that we will not for any particular reason i just think the olympics are a bigger deal here than the World Cup is, but maybe we'll get a semblance of that as well. But it's going to be tough because Team USA in soccer is not close to what it is in, let's say, hockey, right? I mean, what do we – I mean, I don't want to put you guys on the spot, but we're not – are we even top 10 in soccer right now? Where are we? Top 20. Top 20? Okay. So, you know, expectations are certainly going to be lower, John. It's a miracle on turf. Yeah. the bad for the weekend um you gotta you gotta love this from gavin newsom going full-blown michael scott is what he did here okay from the office gavin newsom the california governor is making the rounds he's obviously going to run for president he was in georgia over the weekend promoting his new book titled young man in a hurry and gavin newsom's in georgia in a room of mostly people of color, and he has the audacity to say this. I'm not trying to impress you. I'm just trying to impress upon you. I'm like you. I'm no better than you. You know I a 960 SAT guy And you know and I not trying to offend anyone you know trying to act all there if you got 940 Oh Jesus Literally a 960 SAT guy I cannot You never seen me read a speech because I cannot read a speech. Maybe the wrong business to be. what what was that what was that from gavin newsom who's actually pretty smooth he just had a moment there where he was trying too hard and i'm like what is he doing i'm just like you guys i'm kind of a dope with a 960 sat score now i asked these guys during the break i said do you remember your SAT scores and both of them said hey we were ACT guys which I understand is a regional thing you know 960 is not good at all at all seemed like you could take both when I was in school okay one depending on what school you want to apply to because the schools took one or the other or both well to give you some perspective in case you're not an SAT person the best mark you can get is 1600 you got 800 for math and then you've got 800 for um you know writing english language arts things like that so you know if you want to get into harvard you got to get close to 1600 gavin newsom saying he's a 960 guy hey i'm just like you i'm not very smart like oh man that is cringe yeah i didn't do great on the s or eight act i got a 24 which 36 is the highest but i mean my friend who got into cornell he had a 35 on the act which is like i think he got like a 15 something on the essay he had to take both if he wanted to get into cornell yeah you're going to cornell you got to take the sat okay these things don't really work my senior year i had chemistry i'm getting a d i've got to get a better grade so i'm busting my hump you got to memorize the periodical table of elements and all this stuff so this coincides with me taking these tests right well you have an aptitude in chemistry young man like yeah i can mix a few drugs all Right. Oh, that's great. Because I was cramming and they thought I had an aptitude. That is hysterical. I think my final SAT score was a 1340, which I don't think would get me into Villanova today. It was pretty good but standards have gone up in the wake of a couple of national championships I just put it that way So is the price by the way but gavin newsom being like i just like you guys 940 i an idiot that was cringe cringe from gavin newsom uh the ugly from the weekend after the high of yesterday team usa gold medal for men's hockey you had this scary situation unfolding in mexico where in Puerto Vallarta, you had the Mexican drug cartel, the JNGC cartel, start overtaking the city, shutting down the airport, blocking roads in and out of the city and causing widespread unrest, setting fires. You've got a lot of tourists who are down there right now, not just from the United States. I know that there are at least a few people from Kansas. I've talked to members of the Kansas delegation. I'm trying to get them on the show, but they're stuck down there right now. They can't get out of Puerto Vallarta, and they're trying to figure out a way back to the United States as we speak. So that's the case, and that's the situation down there right now. And it happens because the Mexican government took out El Mencho, the top drug kingpin of this cartel, and the U.S. provided the intelligence support for the operation. So this thing could get more dangerous in the days to come. But right now there is a travel advisory warning for most of Mexico from the United States government. There's the good, the bad and the ugly from the weekend here on KCMO Talk Radio. It's the biggest game on the planet and nobody breaks it down like Jim Rome. Super Bowl run. Who do you think will be the last one standing this year? Fearless debate and the best callers in sports. Okay, what you say? Defense wins Super Bowl. That defense absolutely is Super Bowl caliber. The quarterbacking sure as hell wasn't. He's the spitfire of sports smack. A lot to get to, and I'm not sure you're going to like all of it. Honestly, I don't even care if you like all of it or not. I have a job to do. The Jim Rome Show. Get up in here. Follow and listen on your favorite platform. Mic drop. You ready? Let's do it. Hosted by former Navy SEAL Mike Ritland. It's unfiltered. You know, you go to the sound of the gun. Bam, you're gone. It's weird. I mean, I've had so many near-death experiences. It's raw. I love this country. I offered my life to serve this nation and protect its people. The question, you know, what's the meaning of life? And to me, it just boils down to one single word, which is purpose. Mic drop.
