Summary

O'Connor & Company covers America First Legal's federal complaint against Montgomery County Public Schools for concealing students' gender transitions from parents, Melania Trump's statement refuting Epstein connections, Virginia Governor Spanberger's plummeting approval ratings and controversial policies, and a guilty verdict for an illegal immigrant charged with multiple sexual assaults at Fairfax High School.

Insights
  • America First Legal's litigation strategy combines federal policy enforcement with ground-level legal action to hold school systems accountable for gender ideology policies that violate parental rights and federal law.
  • Melania Trump's calculated response to Epstein allegations emphasizes victim testimony under oath, implicitly questioning credibility of unsubstantiated claims while positioning the administration as pro-transparency.
  • Governor Spanberger's approval collapse (47% approve, 46% disapprove within 3 months) reflects voter backlash against perceived dishonesty and radical left-wing governance despite moderate campaign messaging.
  • Sanctuary policies and immigration enforcement gaps create conditions where school safety failures compound, leaving victims without recourse and perpetrators potentially free to reoffend.
  • School system budget priorities reveal misalignment with core educational mission when legal defense costs for controversial policies exceed classroom resource needs.
Trends
Litigation as policy enforcement: Conservative legal organizations using federal complaints and lawsuits to reverse school policies when executive orders alone prove insufficient.Parental rights mobilization: Growing political momentum around parental notification and consent for student gender transitions, with federal enforcement mechanisms now active.School system legal liability exposure: Public school systems facing multi-front legal challenges over gender policies, forcing budget reallocation from education to legal defense.Immigration enforcement gaps in education: Illegal immigrants with gang affiliations and criminal histories remaining in public schools due to sanctuary policies and inadequate vetting.Governor approval volatility: New governors facing historic approval collapses when campaign messaging diverges sharply from governing ideology, particularly on fiscal and social issues.Victim protection failures: Institutional reluctance to enforce consequences for sexual assault in schools, particularly when perpetrators have protected immigration status.Federal-state policy conflict: State-level sanctuary policies directly conflicting with Trump administration executive orders on parental rights and immigration enforcement.Media narrative shifts: Mainstream outlets (Washington Post) turning against Democratic governors perceived as too radical or dishonest with constituents.School safety as political liability: Sexual assault incidents in schools becoming flashpoint issues that expose broader policy failures and institutional negligence.Minimum wage policy messaging: Democratic politicians claiming credit for wage increases while obscuring employment and small business consequences of mandates.

Now on 105.9 FM and streaming worldwide on the WMAL app, O'Connor and company. WMAL. It is 6.07, it's O'Connor and company. Thanks for tuning in to this Friday version of our little program. Get you going, informed, educated and entertained. You can start your day the right way. Coming up at 7.05, Ian Pryor, American first legal senior advisor. We're going to talk with him about the story we're about to dive into, mere moments from now. 7.35, Commander Kirk Leopold of the USS Cole. Talk about the situation in Iran. 8.05, Mike Litteris from National Park Service and then 8.35, Anna Geratelli, Washington Examiner. Luria Conner with Patrice Anwuka, who's gotten her MJ groove on. Hello, Patrice. Good morning. We fry everybody. We're getting into it now. It's just the way you make me feel, Patrice. It's the way you make me feel. All right, as I mentioned, Ian Pryor is coming here, American first legal. Of course, our listeners know Ian from his incredible work during the pandemic, working with and defending parents in Loudoun County against the school system there. And then that's when he joined and formed, helped form America first legal. Since then, let me just say, if you're a public school system, Fairfax Loudoun, what have you, and America first legal sends a letter to you with the imprior's name on it, you're in trouble. You're in trouble and you're either going to lose or you're going to settle. You better lawyer up and you better work it out. And now, after many victories in Fairfax County and Loudoun County over their various policies, many of which focused on gender ideology, AFL is focusing on Montgomery County, Maryland. Let me just read their statement here that will accompany their letter. America first legal, Ian Pryor says, is urging the Trump administration to investigate Montgomery County public schools in Maryland for actively concealing students' gender transition information from parents. AFL filed a formal federal complaint with the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of Education against Montgomery County public schools in Rockville, Maryland. AFL filed the form, sorry, the complaint alleges that MCPS's gender identity policies violate the First Amendment, the Fourteenth Amendment, and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. AFL's complaint centers on MCPS's gender identity in Montgomery County public schools handbook. Now, this handbook was created and distributed for the 2025-2026 school year. That is after the Justice Department and the Department of Education gave rulings based on the President's executive order about these policies and what American school systems that receive federal funding have to adhere to with regard to communicating with parents on these issues. According to AFL, the handbook establishes a systematic policy of facilitating students' social gender transitions, including changes to names, pronouns, school records, bathroom and locker room access, and overnight field trip sleeping arrangements while actively concealing the information from parents. That's the crux of it. There's more, but that's a big deal. That's a big deal if Montgomery County continues to do that in defiance of these new federal regulations. They could at the very least lose all of their federal funding or worse. And by the way- How much pain is it very painful for them? Beyond that, let me just sort of get back to the crux of this. What this means is that parents in Montgomery County right now who send their kids to the public schools, for all they know when their child leaves their home and goes into the capable hands and care and supervision of government bureaucrats who work for the school systems, their children are being encouraged to and supported in changing their clothes, changing their name, changing their pronouns, using the restrooms and locker rooms that don't match them and they are actively concealing it from you, mom and dad. So you might want to pick up the phone this morning and talk to your local school and find out what's going on with your child at school and take notes, see exactly what they tell you and the words they use. Patrice, I hope this makes a big difference in Montgomery County because they are so defiant. These politicians, whether they become members of the Montgomery County Council or whether they become school board members, they think their job is to fight the bad orange man in the White House, not take care of the children that are in their charge. You know, what's interesting and what's great about this lawsuit is that it brings the rubber to the road. The Trump administration when first came into office last year really made a lot of efforts around ensuring that parental rights would be upheld, that parents would no longer have to take a back seat to the gender transitioning of their children, that school officials couldn't just go run willy nilly and do whatever they want with the pupils under their care. But you know, the federal government can do so much, the Department of Education can do so much until you know you actually bring these cases and shed light on specific counties, specific school systems where this behavior is going on that can then be rooted out. And so this is I think a great example of how you part, there's partnership between the policy changes and then the actual organizations and individuals who are driving the change on the ground, who are uncovering and uprooting the wrongdoing, bringing it to the light of day and then ensuring that federal officials can hold accountable these school board, these school system administrators and educators, I put them in quotation marks, to ensure that they're actually following the policies, the Constitution, the federal and state law, or at least federal law here, that it's really important to see this kind of partnership. It sounds like process guys, but this is how actual things get done. It's how the big announcements actually then change your child's life and your family's life and give you back the power that you put this administration into do. And it's been a year since these executive orders were in place by President Trump and it's taken a year, I'm assuming for America First Legal to diligently and deliberately gather the evidence and see how these school systems respond. I just want you to remember, in Fairfax County and Loudoun County, both of those school systems over the past year have like entrenched themselves and gotten into a defensive crouch and decided that they were going to use their school systems budget to pay for high priced attorneys to fight the Trump administration on these things. And in both instances, both of those school systems faced a lawsuit from America First Legal. Ian Pryor came on this program to talk about it. And ultimately, those school systems settled these lawsuits. They won, the AFL won on these things. So I have no doubt that that will happen here, although I don't know if a settlement is as good as actually making these people lose in court. They will, Montgomery County, get ready for your taxes to go up because they're going to lawyer up and they're going to spend that money that should be in the schools on lawyers to fight Trump. You know, I, as a parent, I hate when they, when my teacher tells me, can you donate us some colored paper so we can print out notices? Yeah. And I'm thinking to myself, I'll happily do it. But where the heck, I'm sorry if that's a bad word, but where in the world is my tax dollars gone? Patrice, heck is not a bad word. You're okay. Heck is not a bad word. I'm okay. Okay, good. I don't want us to get slapped by the FCC. You know where your tax dollars have gone. Well, if you can, you're telling me that you need money for paper to print out homework assignments, yet you're willing to lawyer up and spend what, potentially millions of dollars trying to defend gender transition policies, which has nothing to do with the ABCs, which have nothing to do with ensuring that these students can read, write and be productive citizens when they graduate, when they leave your classrooms. That is, that's exactly what we're trying to get at here. And I think folks need to really understand that, that, that, you know, there's merit to these cases and they need to be brought. It's not, it's not enough that you have executive orders and it's not enough that you have, you know, policymakers at the federal level saying they're going to go after this when, when, if no one comes forward with the cases for them to prosecute. And Lord knows that's what the left has had all these years. They've gotten their executive orders from Obama or from Clinton and then their activist groups that are very well funded would immediately jump in. They would immediately start lawsuits. They would get red states to settle and that's how policies form, sadly in many cases. Ian Pryor said in the statement, McCormick County Public Schools has constructed an elaborate system designed to keep parents in the dark about some of the most consequential decisions affecting their own children. Federal law and the Constitution are unambiguous. Parents have the fundamental right to direct the upbringing of their children and to access their children's education records. MCPS's policies turn both of those principles on their head. Ian Pryor, he'll be our guest to talk about this at 705 Montgomery County parents. You better follow up right now and find, don't wait for the lawsuit. Be proactive, protect your children and put your schools, teachers and principals on the hot seat today. It's 615. Hi, I'm Joe Salci. Hi, host of the stacking bench of its podcast. You know what? A lot of us get Texas wrong. Filing your taxes is basically data entry. There's been this trend of people going, oh, it's so cool to file my taxes in August. It's so awesome. Don't worry, I have an extension. It'll be fine. I like totally do it later. Stop. Do your friggin' taxes now. That was a really good fashion voice. Did you like it? You do that more frequently, please? Yes, every show for now. Stacking Vegamins. Follow and listen on your favorite platform. A couple more news items out of the White House and Trump world. So quickly though, our listeners are so good. We express some curiosity over Marjorie Trader Brown and where the brown came from. I reliably informed that earlier this week the president put out a true social post about this explaining the new nickname. Marjorie Trader Brown, green turns to brown under stress. That's why she is now Marjorie Trader Brown. Thank you to our loyal listeners. Whenever we express doubt about something, we always get the answer from our great WMAO community and family. So that's where Marjorie Trader Brown comes from. Now you know. Melania Trump made an announcement yesterday refuting suggestions that she had any connections to Jeffrey Epstein and she's fighting back. She made the announcement from the White House. Take a listen to what the president did. There's been a lot of people who made outrageous claims. They've made it on cable news and on the public airwaves suggesting that Melania Trump was in some way trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein and that's how Donald Trump met her. It is pretty outrageous. They've been saying it for quite some time. I don't know what brought the First Lady to make this statement yesterday. But the latest sort of news release attacking her was or if she had just decided now is the time to do this instead of in the fever heat of the Epstein mania that we saw a couple of months ago. But here's the First Lady statement and then we can discuss. The individual lying about me, a devoid of ethical standards, humility and respect. I do not object to their ignorance but rather I reject their mean-spirited attempts to defame my reputation. I never been friends with Epstein. Donald and I were invited to the same parties as Epstein from time to time. Friends overlapping in social circles is common in New York City and Palm Beach. To be clear, I never had a relationship with Epstein or his accomplice Maxwell. My email reply to Maxwell cannot be catarised as anything more than casual correspondence. My polite reply to her email doesn't amount to anything more than a tribal note. I am not Epstein's victim. Epstein did not introduce me to Donald Trump. I met my husband by chance at the New York City party in 1998. This initial encounter with my husband is documented in detail in my book Melania. It was a dramatic moment as you can hear and it was a very quiet setting there as she was delivering her statement. There's more here. Think about the weight that's on the First Lady here as all of this is transpiring. Certainly, I think it's been mentioned before, although she had a public profile as a model, she never expected to be First Lady of the United States and go through what she has gone through in the last 10 years now culminating in this kind of nightmare. Here's a little bit more from the First Lady. I call on Congress to provide the women who have been victimised by Epstein with a public hearing specifically centred around the survivors. Give these victims their opportunity to testify under oath in front of Congress with the power of sworn testimony. Each and every woman should have her day to tell her story in public if she wishes and then her testimony should be permanently entered into the congressional record. Then and only then we will have the truth. Now, that's very interesting and I don't know what Congress might do with that, but it is an interesting development to call on every woman to have her day to tell her story in public if she wishes and then her testimony will be publicly entered in the congressional record. That's a bold move in this whole Epstein saga, but it certainly puts the First Lady and by extension the President on the side of wanting all the information out there, not in these dribs and drabs and these files and trying to figure out what is it. Let the victims talk. As far as I know, none of the legitimate victims that have actually been bonafide determined to be credible and with evidence to support their claims has said anything about the President other than if they had any encounter with him, he didn't do anything. We shall see where it comes from. One of the problems with doing this giant document dump is what would be Goldberg's emails with Jeffrey Epstein, make it sound like she's part of it. The Rook fist, Pam Bondi, the Attorney General, had been subpoenaed by Congress to testify about the Epstein Files. She has been summarily moved from her position. She has now announced that she's not going to come and testify. Members of Congress, on both sides of the aisle, from Nancy Mace, Republican, to Jasmine Crockett, Democrat, have been saying, we didn't subpoena the Attorney General, we subpoenaed you personally and they're threatening to hold her in contempt if she doesn't show up. There's more of a showdown coming over Epstein right when Speaker of the House Mike Johnson does not need it. I would just want to go back and underscore something that First Lady Trump said, which is each woman give these victims their opportunity to testify under oath in front of Congress with the power of sworn testimony. I don't think she said those words lightly. I think she's putting these victims and listen, if you want to testify and you want to have your day, you're going to get to have it, she's saying. But under the penalty of being prosecuted, if you lie about anything under oath. And so, I mean, to me, there's a little bit of a questioning of the credibility of some of the victims here and maybe rightly so because obviously you're always going to have people who claim to be a victim and maybe they are and maybe they're not. So this gives them an opportunity to under oath and provides sworn testimony and we will see if that holds up. And so we will also interestingly see what victims, if this happens, what victims decide to take up the offer and which don't. And they'll have every reason whether they want to or not, but that can also feel a little bit of a speculation about what these women have to say and these victims have to say. So I think it's very interesting that Melania Trump did this. It's very calculated. Even her word choice is very calculated and hey, I'm here for how this unfolds. Well, I'll tell you this, Melania Trump doesn't sound like anybody who's parsing, equivocating or using weasel words. She sounds like a woman who is completely innocent and has nothing to hide. And you can't say that about everybody involved in this story. Exactly. 625. Now on 105.9 FM and streaming worldwide on the WMAL app. O'Connor and company. WMAL. It is 637. It's O'Connor and company on this Friday morning. Good one to you. Thanks for joining us. Larry O'Connor with Patrice Soudwooka and Patrice coming up at 7.05. We've got Ian Pryor from America First Legal 735 will speak with Commander Kirk Leopold of the USS Cole terror attack. He was the commander that day in 2000. We'll get his perspective on the Iranian situation. 805 brings us Mike Litterest. He's from the National Park Service. Talk about the improvements to the Lincoln Memorial. And well, what's going on with the cherry blossoms? Are they still hanging out? And then at 835 we'll speak with Anna Geratelli of the Washington Examiner. Now, Virginia news. We told you yesterday that Abigail Spanberger is no bueno right now with regard to the polls. The Washington Post op-ed has turned against her. You see a lot of stories here saying that she now has the lowest approval rating of a governor of Virginia at this time, three months into her term as any governor of the 21st century. Like we're going back to Gilmore. She is the least popular governor ever. And much of it is because, well, we're all seeing that she lied to the people of Virginia. You know, I understand that Virginia is like a bluish purple state. I get it. Even the Democrats, if you think about it, from Warner to Cain to even Northam and McAuliffe, they weren't this radical. They weren't this left wing. They didn't just lay down and do whatever Hakeem Jeffries and Zora Mamdani or God forbid Louise Lucas, the president of the Senate, demanded that she do. But Spanberger's done that. And especially after running as just a regular moderate suburban mom, you know, with my Talbot's wardrobe and she's been a nightmare and everybody is seeing it. And even Democrats who are not used to this kind of thing, you know, most of the Democrats in Virginia, I shouldn't say most, a good chunk of the Democrats in Virginia aren't really Democrats. They just aren't Republican. You know what I mean? And for one reason. For one reason or another, especially during the Trump era, they have decided that they can't possibly be Republican, right? But these very same Virginians voted for Glenn Yonkin four years ago. You know, bear that in mind. And by the way, Yonkin, even though he was a pretty conservative guy, when he got into that office, he recognized because of the state he was in, he couldn't govern like, you know, like Ron DeSantis would. I would have loved him to, frankly. But no, he was also on the moderate side as well. Because that's what the governor of Virginia historically has always been, not Abigail Spanberger. So she now is facing basically a 50-50 approval, disapproval rating, 47-approve, 46-disapprove, which is really bad when you're not even in office for a hundred years. Yesterday, she announced that she signed into law a new minimum wage bill. I'm going to read her post to you in Petrice. You're a smart woman. You've got an econ degree. Focus on money and government regulatory issues for independent women. Maybe you can pick this out. Here's a couple of governor Spanberger. Listen to the language. Breaking, I just signed legislation to raise Virginia's minimum wage to $15 per hour. We are putting more money in the pockets of the Virginians who power our economy. What? Yeah. Wait a minute. Who's who? That is so disingenuous. Who's we exactly? I think the minimum wage, I suppose, will actually increase the... For a small group of people who earn minimum wage, yes, they get a bump until they get a pink slip because their small business, their franchise, is not able to afford that higher labor costs. That's the untold truth about these ridiculous minimum wage hikes. They end up backfiring on the lowest wage workers who tend to be young people getting their first jobs. These are not jobs that you're earning a living and raising a family on. These are first step jobs that build your career. You know, she's... That's right. And then she's going to put the small businesses out of commission because they can't afford these hikes. She's just a piece of work. And even beyond that, I take issue with the idea that we are putting more money in the pockets. No, you're not. You're forcing employers to put more money in the pockets of the Virginians. That's right. You're not doing anything. Yes. Or as Nick Freitas put it, former delegate and political commentator, he said, you didn't do that. You just made it illegal for someone to take an entry level job for less than $15 an hour, even if they wanted it. Exactly. Yeah, it's... By the way, here's the other thing. They say, oh, she raised the minimum wage to $15. So there you go. That's your affordability agenda. She's going to give you more money so that you have like, guess what? It doesn't go into effect until January 2028. So good luck with your... I mean, where's the affordability? You've got to wait two years for your so-called pay increase. Yes. Oh, goodness. It's so ridiculous. So she signed that in the law with her claw-like hands. She did a picture... If you notice, she does a weird thing with her hands and her knuckles are always sort of twisted and bizarre. It's very alfaba. It's very al-gitimipiti. It's very... Anyway, so that's the picture that she signed of her signing a bill. She also vetoed a bill. Here's what she vetoed. She vetoed the Fairfax Casino Law. The Fairfax County wanted a casino. It took legislation to get it. It passed the House and Senate. Spanberger vetoed it. Who was the chief opponent of the Fairfax County Casino Project? Louise Lucas, the very powerful Democrat president of the Senate. It's amazing. When Spanberger speaks... Sounds like she's like a puppet. You can barely see Louise Lucas' lips moving when Spanberger delivers remarks. It's impressive. And I wonder how uncomfortable it is with the whole hand puppet action there for Abigail Spanberger. But it seems to be working. Well, listen, I mean, Spanberger has not had a good week between the poll members getting called out earlier in the week for trying to take credit in job creation and new investment in the state that happened because of Governor Glenn Yonkin. Right. I mean, she's just... She doesn't seem like she has original ideas. She takes whatever ideas are given to her from the radical far left or the good ones that she can rip off from the previous administration. But should we be really surprised that she ran as a moderate as somebody who is going to change things and make things normal and bring down cost when she had no idea how to do it? She's just really good at telling, weaving a narrative and telling a story and lying on top of it. I mean, that's what you got, Virginia. It's almost like she's a CIA operative. Wait a second. Kind of like that. But we are not surprised, Patrice. We are not surprised. No one that listens to this program. We were telling you this whole year. It's 644. Next roll with Vernon Davis. The transformative journeys of athletes, artists and entrepreneurs. Ladies and gentlemen, lights out, Sean Merriven. I want to be the biggest and the best when I do. And so whatever it takes, I'll get it done in business and everything else. All I do is know how to fight and earn what I want. My man, Malik Ass. What actor, comedian would you want to collaborate with? Me, Jamie Foxley, Kevin Hart in a movie. We said it on Vernon Davis podcast then. So we'll circle back and be like, yep, it's going to clear. Next roll with Vernon Davis. Follow and listen on your favorite platform. It is 648, Patrice Anwuka. And we've got a little bit more news out of Virginia this time out of Fairfax High School. We've been telling you the story about the illegal immigrant, almost 19-year-old young man who was enrolled in Fairfax High School as a junior and who was arrested after multiple, multiple, multiple sexual assaults against children. You know, children. And I'm told that there are young girls as young as 12 years old at this high school because it's one of those seven through 12 schools. Now I don't know the ages of all of the victims. I think Nick Minock has interviewed one of the young girls who is 14 years old. Apparently there are 12 individuals. Some of the parents, yes. I'm reading through his reporting. Twelve individuals total that reported that he had sexually assaulted them, grabbed them. In some cases, in the hallways of the school, grabbed them front and back between their legs in a violent, horrific, intrusive way. The reports had been going on. Finally, an arrest was made. But apparently this had been going on for a while. School did nothing. Police did nothing. Finally an assault was made. Well, I can now tell you that a judge has found that illegal immigrant guilty on nine assault charges yesterday, not guilty on three charges and the judge dismissed one charge. So out of 13 charges, there's a guilty now, guilty verdict on nine of those charges. Now let me just say, based on the policies of the Commonwealth's attorney in Fairfax County, based on the policies of the Fairfax County, County supervisors, and based on the policies of Abigail Spanberger, the governor of Virginia, this illegal immigrant who has just been convicted of sexual assault of nine young innocent high school girls on the grounds of Fairfax County High School, as far as their policies are concerned, as soon as he does his time for those nine sexual assaults, he is free to go back to school. He can go back. He can walk the streets. He can be sitting at the park next to your children tomorrow. You know, I want to say their names. This is a common refrain now. When it comes to victims of sexual assault, you want to say their name. Well, let's acknowledge that what happened to these girls were wrong. Kudos again to Nick Minock for his reporting, actually interviewing the parents, the mothers who were showing up to these schools every day after their daughters were violently assaulted. One mother said, you know, the school is trying to minimize what happened, saying, oh, they were patted on, swatted on the behind. If it was a swatting on the behind, I wouldn't be here. No, she talked about him sneaking up behind these girls and putting his hand through his legs. They're behind being the last part of the bodies that they were touching. Sorry to be so graphic, but I just want to call out that this is being allowed by school officials, by Abigail Spanberger, by the state's attorney. This is what happens when you have bad people and bad policy and not willing to overturn it. Kids are victims. And they're not looking out for and caring about the victims and private innocent citizens. They're looking to protect the criminals. That's what these sanctuary policies do. And there's another thing, by the way. A lot of the young men this age who are here illegally and inserted into our public schools, they have gang affiliations. We know this. This is a regular thing. Their victims are terrified to come forward and say something because people who snitch on gang members end up getting hacked to pieces by a machete and dumped in the woods. We've seen that happen in this area based on these MS-13 gang member affiliations. So the courageous young women who spoke out, I thought we were supposed to stand by the women, but we're not. If you're Steve Discano, if you're every Democrat in elected office in Fairfax County and if you're Governor Abigail Spanberger, you move heaven and earth to protect this pervert, to protect this Israel Flores Ortiz, who is now guilty of nine sexual assault charges against young girls in our high schools. And those Democrats in power in Fairfax County, they're moving heaven and earth to make sure that Israel Flores Ortiz is protected from deportation. If you're not pissed off about this, there is something wrong with you. It's 653. This isn't your average podcast. This pot is about to be crazy. I don't even know what's going to happen.
