There's been some big wins and every night could be electrifying But the stones need to go into Cleveland and get a win to have their first NBA conference final since 2008 oh, yeah Don't worry about it Donovan Mitchell nine years in a league has never won. What are they saying about him? Will he be able to do it in Cleveland? We shall see and in the spurs just two years removed from them being 22 and 60 Geez bad to him. They become the aliens team then all the boys start ballin They have to take on an Anthony Edwards alien like recovery. Whoo You have to wonder if they're ready for the Kaniacs Hockey's awesome, but we're gonna have to wait a few days for some games and obviously hockey is incredibly electrifying So we will have to scratch that itch in other fashions. Oh, I know how we'll be able to do it We'll go through every NFL team schedule perfect huge night last night on ESPN prime time at eight o'clock an entire cast from both the NFL Network Cal Brandt representing and ESPN NFL crew You had miss Laura there. You had Shregs there. You had Hawk there You had Dan or Lofsky there Cal Brandt and they went through everybody's schedule They had guests that pop by they were trying to make it a big celebration They were trying to make it a big prime time event I appreciated the fact that everything is literally becoming everything because the schedule release which it still is is an internet thing Oh, yeah, okay, that is an internet operation This is where internet digital content creators who are hired by NFL teams have the chance to shine So now that they're making it into a linear thing as well I think this is a good idea by the NFL and I want to let them know there's so much to talk about Mm-hmm the schedule makers who I think try to gather as much information as they possibly can about all the teams and projections of teams I assume they're using AI and everything like that. They're trying to figure out who's gonna be good Who's gonna be asked they have to project for the entire league these prime time games that have billions Billions of Dollars at stake. How do we make them good with good teams with big superstars while also providing? Incredible content for everybody and they got a project who they think Los Angeles Rams. They are a New York New Jersey team the amount of humans that just naturally will come from a Jets game being on television Okay, used to carry a lot of weight you would have to see the Jets and the Giants You're gonna have to see their asses if LA has a team guess what you're gonna have to see them too Because there's a lot of humans that are automatically gonna be accounted for in the audience because they're gonna have to watch because it's their team So if you're a New York football team and you are getting zero prime time games They somehow believe that a team in Indianapolis a team in Cincinnati Okay, a team out there in Kansas City Green Bay obviously has historic huge ratings because of who they are But to the point that the New York team is getting zero prime time games They got to think that they are gonna be the assiest team in the history of us. That is a crazy thing from the schedule makers to say a New York team. We're not gonna get a New York pop in any of these weekends No, that that that is in that is the thought, you know, how do we maintain audience whenever there's a potential? Weekend where we can't figure out a good matchup and who we think's gonna be good They have to project injuries. They have to project who's gonna play good after project Who's gonna be hot who's gonna be not Pittsburgh Steelers? You're gonna see them. Oh, yeah, you are gonna see them It's like five straight weeks right tone isn't it and that that means the schedule makers in the NFL They're betting billions of dollars on they think your team is gonna be good in about the middle of the season That's good news for Steelers fans, right? Aren't you pumped up about? Yeah? Yeah potentially Depends on how the team is but yes from week 10 you go Sunday night football Then you have the 425 national game and then you have Black Friday by yourself Sunday night football by yourself And then Monday night football by yourself so five weeks in a row the Steelers gonna be on national all by themselves And you're gonna get a good taste of whoever's playing quarterback at that time Well, nobody really knows who's playing quarterback Cam Hayward said on his podcast Everybody's middle summer dude. What do we want this? Think he knows the system. I think I'm congratulations to more than just a few teams this year Congratulations to these particular five There you go Chargers the Charger social team always yeah, okay They're in LA Southern, California They got a lot of super-duper minds and it feels like a lot of understanding a ball too which is Kind of on display with some of the teams with things that they post how they post where they post when they post Kind of like hey clearly admin does not know ball But has a job that they're not supposed to have that is pretty important in NFL And then you see like schedule release stuff where they're all kind of on display And there seemingly some teams are always at the top and I would assume that they're branding and they're imaging and all that shit is good Charger social team unbelievable and I think that's why some people buy into the Chargers hype every single year It's because every time on our phones we see something awesome from the Chargers Yeah, it's hard not to just be like I like them. I like hardball. I like Herbert. I like the way they brand their team I like that they got a brand new practice facility. Yeah, I think we're getting to mid-season form I think may is kind of when it you know all starts to click for me a little bit in the past couple years. So I think everybody's a little bit different. Um, I mean you you get feel Of pitches you lose feel of pitches as as the season goes on. So, you know stuff that's working right now probably in all likelihood isn't going to be working and You know in a month or two But you know, we'll figure it out and and go from there. So we'll see what is it? Your body just decides that a new pitch is going to be your favorite pitch at the time And I will only say this as a person that was a punter So I had to have a drop and then a kick every time I was out there I'd be like changing my shit day of game because it just felt better and then I would have success And it's like, all right, I'm just gonna do that. You know, it's just like that's what I'm gonna go with Is it day to day with what feels good coming out and what is it grip? Think how do you kind of know which one is the when's the right time for which pitch? How do you know? Yeah, I think it's all that. Um, there there are times where I'll be, you know, throwing a pitch and it feels terrible and and you know bullpen and catch play um For the whole week leading into my start and then the day of my start It's just coming out of my hand nice and feels good. So I think everybody's like that a little bit, you know Stuff changes day to day week to week month to month. So Who knows who knows where it's going to be in, you know in a month How good does that feel after you do that base bar that backpack thing? And you do the all the other things get around and then you get up on that mound for scheme's bump day And all of a sudden the pitch that just has not been acting properly the last couple days comes out And it's like oh, nice to see you here tonight. Okay. So does that mean that your ponche pitch? You know what that means, obviously, you know, a ponche pitch means. Yep, ponche pitch. Yeah You understand what they I know baseball. It was there. And do you know what your ponche pitch is going to be each game you're going into? Yeah, to be honest a lot of the time. I don't know what it's going to be, uh, which you know, that's what makes it fun. Um You know if you're a lot of guys go out there and they have the same, you know, two ponche pitches and Nice. Like do you appreciate the way he approaches the game with how he calls it? Does he ask for your influence uh day to day like when you're pitching like hey, what do you like today? What do you not like like how is that conversation going? Yeah, I think a lot of the time it's you know, not even a conversation just because we see how it's going in the bullpen We see how it is between innings Uh during the game, you know, sometimes a pitch just sucks. So we just stop calling it. Um, nothing really needs to be said then so Uh, but there's a lot of communication that goes into it. We like to change up this year, huh? Yeah, I think it's I think it's pretty good. It's devastating. Did you work on it this? What was it? I think you said you were working on a pitch. I don't remember if it was the change up or not Is this what you were working on this off season? Yeah, I've I've pretty much gone uh with the same repertoire as last year. So the change up I mean, we're you know constantly working on all the pitches. Um, I might have made some Some changes to the change up or my sinker or something else. I think a lot of the time it's like Kind of subconscious for me, uh where I make changes to the pitch and another gets better or worse and then You know, we either have to fix it or keep riding with it, but uh, I think the change up I've been I've been riding with for You know, probably five or six years now I should have known that obviously And that's what that is. Uh, I should have known that obviously that is a it looks like fastball coming right down And then it just hits a breaks basically on me or what happens? Yeah, ideally it looks like ideally everything looks like the fastball and then it you know Moves different or hits the breaks or something like that the change up's just, you know, slower and it moves a little bit more down and arm side so um Yeah, sometimes it gets swinging miss sometimes it doesn't Are we nibbling at edges all the time right that's the change up right there? How do you kind of feel about the state of pitching in baseball right now? Uh, I would say I mean pitching is probably as good as it's ever been and it'll probably Only continue to get better. Um, I think pitching evolves very quickly. Yeah show. Hey's I'm he makes me really glad. I'm not a hitter anymore. I don't want to face guys like him He's kind of struggling with it. I guess they're saying I'm not saying this They are saying that the now that he is full-time pitcher the hitting is not as what he was like MVP hitter Whatever prolific hitter as it was last year. They're saying it was a balance you former catcher obviously hit and also pitcher The the thought of him being able to accomplish like travis hunter when travis hunter came into the nfl We're all pulling for him like we're all like hoping that he would be able to accomplish something that nobody's ever been able to do But whenever you would ask guys that were potentially in those positions They'd be like it's going to be really hard That that is going to be a very very hard thing at the professional level on his body on his mind on everything For you with pitching that the breaks in between it's an all-encompassing We're working on becoming better pitcher at all times and at one point in your life. Did you want to hit and pitch? I Wanted to hit and pitch for most of my life and then when I was at lsu. I was I was hitting and pitching and Had a pretty good fall and then they just stopped putting me in in bp groups I found out after the fact that our pitching coach told all our pitchers that they couldn't throw inside on me So I guess that's why That's probably one of the reasons I had a good fall Um, but yeah, they just stopped putting me in bp groups and There was no conversation. They just said it was just you know Hey, you're not pitching anymore, but but no words were said. I think it was just an understanding that we came to so My body feels a lot better when i'm just pitching And during your day's break your five day break. I think I saw you do an interview with uh scoobal where it's like day one recovery with jet pass I think it's sources. Yeah Super sources or something like that super sources with jet sources. Let it up the jet of source sources tell jet passing Yes, I think that is the actual That is actually what it's Okay, but you're on there talking about the recovery days like first day recovery second day We start doing this third day. We start doing that that feels like a very regimented thing Is have you always been like this you developing this is this now that you're an old man? You have one of these like how how do you think that kind of has evolved or where it's going to now Yeah, it's evolved. Uh, I think every I've always been very, you know routine oriented. So right or wrong I was doing the same thing going into every start every game um And so I think just as as I've gone on in baseball. I've learned more about my body. So I know what works what doesn't work um, but it's the same thing every every five days every six days. It's it's Incredibly boring. Um But you got to do what you got to do to show up and be ready to to pitch Yeah, be the face of a franchise. Yeah, I appreciate the fact that you're very boring We asked you one time. What do you do for a hobby? You say I nap. Yeah, and I wake up a little bit. Okay. I do baseball with jared who we back food or we we just we nap and just just do baseball You're the man for that and we are lucky you are in pittsburgh on that note Pirates seemingly a little bit different this year than I don't know the last 30 years go ahead tone Yeah, paul. You just got your sixth win of the season On may 12th last season it didn't come until July 27th, and that was not your fault. You've had a 196 basically for your entire career Thank you. That's because It's awesome. You're getting run support. So how how fun is it now to to get that run support? It feels like everyone's hitting everyone. They brought in is hitting lao o' herne Oh, neil cruz is having an unbelievable season connor griffin since he's turned 20 has been insane How cool is it now to to have the run support also with your starts? Yeah, it's been great. Um It's a it's a really fun group to be around. Um, you know the last couple starts, uh, I got a lot of run support My first few starts and we won a couple of them and the last couple starts we scored I think at the first inning and two starts ago we won one nothing and Yeah, the last star was three nothing. So we're scoring early which which makes it easy to pitch. Um, Um, which is nice and then, you know, all you got to do is win by one. So we're we're doing a good job You know scoring more runs than the other team. That's you know, kind of what What the whole game's about so Yeah, I guess so. Yeah, it's been fun. I appreciate that you say, uh, in your mindset is We all need one more run. That's all we need just one run and expect yourself to be perfect Which I appreciate you got some young starts on that team. Tell me about the 19 year old connor griffin I know you guys had a birthday party. He's actually 20 now. He's 20. Yeah, he's he's a changed man. He's all grown up now They got him a bounce house. Yeah. Oh, yeah, I remember that He turned 19. No, he turned 20 actually which sounds a little bit more like understandable. Yeah 19 in the bigs felt Outrageous just it did feel a little bit outrageous to me as a non super baseball person Just like wow, I didn't know you could do that at such a young age He seems like a 90 year old man though the way he talks and everything. Can you describe him? And uh, why he's seemingly the right one to be a 19 year old major league baseball player Well, I mean you said it. He sounds like a 90 year old man. Um, I wouldn't I wouldn't go that far, but he's definitely mature. Um, he's been mature ever since he was 19 too, so Um, yeah, I think you know, he Like everybody you go through some growing pains when you get into the big leagues, whatever that looks like and Um, so I think he's learned a lot. He you know, it's it feels like He's I mean he's but he was up for Uh, he came up after our sixth game, I think so he's been out pretty much all year, but Um, feels like he's been around the league for you know, much longer than that and uh, Obviously he's doing well playing well, um Great guy to have behind you defensively a great guy to have in the In the in the lineup in the clubhouse. He's he's one of the guys can't wait to see what you guys do for his 21st birthday This is where his 20th. Oh boy. Yeah, that should be a good time middle of the season. Obviously get a chance to sell that Still in the clubhouse there. Yeah, where do we keep that at with all the cones that we steal? No, yeah, I think uh, I think we blew it up. It was our it was our groundskeeper who did it So I think they blew it up in his office. Um So he might he might still have a bounce house just in his office somewhere Good for the lads. Is that a hoop right above it too? Oh, yeah, we we got a little mini hoop in there. Um, That thing gets used pretty frequently in rain delays, which we have a lot of Uh, who's the best shot Pittsburgh? Man, uh, Carmen machinsky is pretty good. Mitch Keller. Uh, it's mostly As far as I know, it's mostly the pitchers That are that are taking shots. I think the hitters uh, because when we're in rain delays The pitchers don't have anything else to do the hitters will go into the Into the cage Carmen's uh, he's good at everything and Mitch is good at everything I can make a you know, a Three-foot bank shot with the best of them, but other than that, it's pretty tough. Yeah, a small hoop though bank shots difficult That is a that is a tough shot. Thank you for saying that I can I can hit I've been a part of some mini hoops as well in my day in equipment rooms and in locker rooms I can hit from further. It's tough for me from close With a little ball for some reason I can't but you get me back a little bit. I can get you You know, I'm not never gonna bank that buckers coming way out if if I can flatter ball Maybe I'm in a better spot. So I think the toucher showcasing is good Yeah, but it sounds like these other guys certainly embarrass you on a regular basis Uh, yeah, I mean, I'm the type of guy in the clubhouse. That's kind of how I do So usually when they're going I'll let the big boys play but when it's me and Whoever else I'll I'll give them the business a little bit. But usually I don't I stay out of it. They they've bought themselves some time here by By getting their first line their top guys going even scoring at even strength and Doberish last night who gives up three goals on the first four shots Is seconds from being pulled doesn't give up another goal the rest of the way And now they get to go home. So, you know, buffalo has been really good on the road They've been awful at home in the playoffs for some reason. They haven't figured that piece out But montreal looks dangerous right now guys. Tell me about the canes over there in the east. What have you seen from them? Obviously still undefeated sweep sweep rest or rust the canyax ready to go How do you feel about their chances not only for the east but obviously for the cup as a whole with what's lurking in the west Juggernaut and uh, listen, it speaks to the value of the regular season, right? Like colorado and carolina were the two best teams in their respective conferences and and so that's That's holding true here in the playoffs as well And we've never seen a team sweep uh two seven games best of seven series in the first two rounds. That's never happened and um, look, they're gonna have 10 days off guys that so everybody's gonna be healthy and uh, Coming out of the first sweep. How should I be talking about them in a historical sense? And then what does it look like with the canes if they end up getting there? All right, so let's let's stay with the hot goliad colorado doesn't have that They go back and forth seemingly every other game wedge wood and black wood And you know the 10 year old in me loves when the ball arena crowd starts chanting wedgie wedgie I feel like an infant and everything but uh, they they might have to go back to him So that they're they're waffling back and forth one guy gets hot then he gets pulled Then the next guy comes in so they've got some decisions to make there But that shot right there, bud that that mckinnon that nate dog shot That's one of the sickest shots in hockey all time and if the abs go on to win the cup. Yeah, so the recruiting process for me has been crazy. Um, it really picked up my sophomore year Um, and I was playing receiver my freshman year. Um, and then sophomore years really when I started playing tight end Like being physical. He's putting you in and then You're gonna have a top of the line quarterbacks the best quarterbacks in the country. They're an incredible staff We have a clear vision of their offense and how he would be utilized with his skill set Um, they have a great player coming their way Athletically but a great person on top of that. We had 50 cars that came through between six and seven Neighbors on battle view drive started seeing the autonomous driverless cars two months ago But the groupings and large number of waymos just started circling in and out in the last couple weeks They even shared video with us when neighbors used this little guy to put him right out here in the street to block The waymos from getting into the cul-de-sac and you can imagine what happened next and we had at 1.8 Waymos that were stuck trying to figure out how to turn around the waymos are empty and not picking anyone up Parents are worried not only calling it excessive but dangerous for families. We have small kids We have animals and pets We've got kids getting on the bus in the mornings and it just doesn't feel safe to have that traffic Neighbors reached out to waymo and have not got a response. They've also contacted their council member Representatives and g dot don't know what to do. We would just like to see them stay on main traffic roads I don't think there's any reason to be on small residential cul-de-sacs if they're not picking up Oh, these things are losing her mind make you say way mo no Especially to you aj you've been a big time supporter of these waymos and we've seen obviously the benefits of it The ability to get home without having to necessarily have a driver if you're drunk Obviously getting in these is good if you're a sloppy drunk you can puke all over and there's no driver there to be mad at you But this seems like quite a flaw. Maybe a glitch of some sort. They should be able to change the map This is a 2x speed by the way.
