Summary

This episode tells the story of Ole Kirk Christiansen, founder of LEGO, who persevered through multiple business failures and fires to build a toy company that became a global legacy. The hosts emphasize how faith, family involvement, and persistence transformed tragedy into innovation, using the LEGO story to inspire young entrepreneurs.

Insights
  • Failure and setbacks can serve as foundations for innovation rather than endpoints—Ole Kirk turned workshop fires into the catalyst for pivoting to toy manufacturing
  • Family involvement in business creates multi-generational legacy and knowledge transfer, as demonstrated by Ole Kirk's son Godtfred continuing and expanding the vision
  • Faith-based decision making and morning prayer practices were central to Ole Kirk's business philosophy and success, suggesting spiritual grounding as a business strategy
  • Belief in product quality and vision ('only the best is good enough') can justify personal sacrifice, including selling family assets to sustain the business
  • Adaptability to new materials and technologies (wood to plastic) despite market skepticism enabled exponential growth and market dominance

And we're so glad you were with us for those adventures. And now we get to meet great makers of today's world. And today's lesson is all about toys. Imagination and faith. So grab your creativity. We're heading to Denmark. Well, here's a great fest in friends. Is that story time Daniel? Yes, yes it is friends. Take the time machine way back Destiny. Okay, but I gotta tell you. Get your seat belts. Get some popcorn. Here's the story and very listen. Balloon. One sip on a time in a small town in Denmark. They lived up Carpenter named all Kirk Christiansen. He loved working with his hands and making things strong and beautiful. He built houses, furniture and everybody said he was the best carpenter around. But one day his workshop caught fire. Yes, that's true. Almost everything he always got. Most people quit, but not all he played for. Stink and started again. That's right. He rebuilt his shop after the tragic accident. But just a few years later, something tragic happened again. Even after he kept working, building, it burned down again. That's terrible. Can you imagine losing everything twice? But instead of giving up, all asked God for an idea. And that's when he started carving toys. Little trains, ducks and cars made from wood for little children to play with. He wanted children to learn and last through his toys. He named his company Guess What? Ooh, he named his tiny company, something that you guys all like. And my brother loves too. Let go! I like it too. I have some princess sets. But sometimes my brother plays with them and he takes it about. But that's okay because he's very creative with them. That's right, Destiny. Now thank you for letting me play with your Legos. Now back to the story. Lego. Lego is from two Danish words that mean play well. His motto was only the best is good enough. That's right. Only the best is good enough. He called those words right into the factory wall. And when money was tight, he sold his family's furniture just to keep the business alive. That's how much he believed in his calling. This is a familiar story for many entrepreneurs. There's a lot of sacrifice that goes into great businesses. Bed in one day all found a new kind of material called plastic. And he had a great idea. Even when everyone else said that's not a great idea for toys. They even said it'll never work for toys. But all believed God had given him a new idea. A way to build something better. Allowing kids to be even more creative. He made tiny plastic bricks that could snap together. And just what? They worked so well that soon children all over the world were building castles, cars, and whatever. The imagine name of Shinn came up with. These kids got to bring their dreams to life. And all of them built Lego alone. His children worked right beside him in the walkstop. And guess what friends? His oldest son got Fred started helping when he was only 12. Standing toys and learning everything is dad new. To get all they prayed, built, and dreamed about creating toys that would help families. Use imagination and teamwork. When all grew older, God Fred kept the dream alive. He helped design the Lego bricks we still play with today. So the Lego story wasn't just about building toys. It was about building a family legacy. All wasn't just a builder of toys. It was a builder of faith too. The old cook started every single morning by prayer for wisdom and for his work to honor God. That's so important. And he taught his children that success comes from doing your best. We're for great for help. We do gratitude. Every morning don't we Daniel? Yes, that's right, destiny. And listen, like Clawshans 323 says, whatever you do, work out it with all your heart. I was working for the Lord. And that's why Lego's aren't just a toy. That's right, Lego isn't just a toy. It's a legacy of joy that's been passed down for generations. Yep, buddy, that buddy. Now tell me friends, what can we learn from old Kirk's story? Here's what I learned. Old life so does that even when our plans fall apart. God can help us build something new. That's right. Failure isn't the end. It's the foundation for something better. He turned ashes into ideas. Imagine some people give up even after one fire. He turned wood into wonder and bricks into blessings. And you may ask how. Well, I'll tell you, he did it with faith, family and a lot of perseverance. That's right. Okay, friend, do you know what time it is? Everyone knows, Daniel. It's time for the legacy. Lightning.
