What's up everybody and welcome back to another episode of Games Cast Plays, your afternoon stream but with a twist where we dive a little bit deeper we answer your questions and we bring a little bit of an editorial vibe to our afternoon stream and today I got a phone one because I got my Pokemon master a Pokemon champion over here. Oh yeah. Did you beat Leaf Green yet? I beat Leaf Green two days ago. So you are a champion. I am a champion. You're a legend here. We're going to play Pokemon champions. Yeah. The brand new Pokemon experience and bless you did a great preview already with Jake Deckard from GameSpot which got me excited but also now that I've experienced this game of just a little bit it is not what I thought it was. What did you expect? I guess I was hoping more for a Pokemon stadium experience which I feel like this is kind of that but this is also very much we're looking for the chat up there that's why but what I was looking for. Oh I didn't know if you adjusted the camera. He's just tall like that. Yeah. I adjusted it with Bless to a sneer. Yeah. Yeah. For you to beat. I'll get down. So what I thought Bless was I'd get Pokemon stadium. Right. Like hey here it is and I was hoping for every Pokemon this very much feels like hey this is going to be the competitive like kind of bare bones just competitive fighting. And that was it was interesting because I was trying to find the words for it during the preview of how I wanted to talk about it because like one of the things I wrote down and I was like I don't know if this is offensive to say about it is that it feels like less of a game and more like an application. Yes. You know what I mean. Like it is very much you're going in. You're recruiting a Pokemon a day and then you're going in and you're just battling. You're just right battling. It's a game but it's like if you're coming into this thinking you're going to get a full game experience I think you'll be led. And it's so weird because as a person who listens to the preview but it's still like coming in very fresh right Bless. My expectations were OK I'm going to get some sort of Pokemon stadium. Then all of a sudden I go into the Nintendo store and I go oh my god it's free to play. Yeah. But there's a six dollar welcome pack and I'm like double check. I'm like are you sure you don't want to give you want you don't want me to give you 60 dollars. I'm ready to give you 60 dollars. And so then I finally download it. I get hit with a bunch blessing a bunch of stellar cut scenes and like CGI video. Oh yeah. Yeah. Oh this is how every Pokemon should look. And then I kind of get bogged down and wait too many minutes. Yeah. That's my experience. Then you get into the full to ban. It's just too much time. Too much time. But I which is why I'm glad I booted up last night because like oftentimes for games cast plays it could be like oh let's start from a fresh save. Yeah. But I was so antsy to get in that I started playing last night and for most of the time I was playing it's like tight. I'm like OK well now I'm just talking to these characters. Yeah. I'm probably never going to talk to again because it's not that kind of game. Yeah. It's a whole thing. But now we're here with it. And it's such an interesting one because what there are big questions we had about Pokemon champions. The number one question probably was all right. What are the micro transactions like. What are the purchases like. What's the story. Yeah. As a free to play game. Well are there micro transactions. You guys came back from a few like we didn't see. You don't know. Yeah. They wouldn't tell us show us any of the stuff that is like purchasing. As you can see there is a premium shop. If you hop into the premium shop for two there are two things for sale. There's a premium battle pass for $10. About that. And then oh you got the premium battle pass. Hell yeah. I mean what I'm going to play and I want to earn while I play. So of course about the battle. That's how I saw that one. You know what I mean. Games free to play battle pass for $10. OK cool reward me while I play. Yes. So I get more things because if like you said feels like an application feels very bare bones. So if you don't have anything to bring to it like me who doesn't have a Pokemon home account who doesn't have Pokemon stuff I'm kind of like you got to give me things. So I'm encouraged to play. And as you can see I'm on the free battle pass here. Right. And so you know I got you can earn Pokemon here which is quite interesting. Yeah. Which I know this is premium. But yeah you have that you get the quick coupons you get these teammate tickets which we'll get to these are all used for recruiting. I guess training ticket is used for training and stuff like that. But for these premium items it's like you're earning these mega evolution stones and you're earning Pokemon themselves. And I guess you have a trainer icon here. Got some cosmetic stuff as well. Yeah. And then you go into the shop alongside the battle pass you then in the premium shop have the memberships. So you buy a one month membership membership or a 12 month membership. I'm not doing that. I'm not doing that either. I'm not doing that. But you do get more box spaces. You get I don't know what battle teams plus 15 is. Maybe that's like preset teams that you can assign. Those are your loadouts of teams. Yeah. Yeah. You have exclusive missions which I guess are just dailies or whatever. Yeah. And then you have exclusive battle songs. Honestly I don't really like that. That was odd to me when I went to the shop and the stuff that they're selling is like battle songs. I'm like OK I don't like that. I don't like that. And then you go into the shop and then you have the non premium shop the frontier shop where you can spend VP. VP is the currency that you earn in the game. Yes. Yes. Three points and you spend VP on all these things held items which are the items that you can use in battle mega stones for the mega evolutions clothing options for your character accessories hair and cosmetics pre battle poses which I think is cool in theory but they're expensive as hell. Why are they so expensive. Why are shoes 4000 VP. Why are their shoes the most expensive thing on the game. Why are throwing styles 5000 VP. And I'm sure we'll see how like how much they deal out the VP. Yeah. It seems like they might be more generous than I'm giving them credit for because you start off with 10 K. Every win you get it in a ranked battle you get 300 but then they also have missions and stuff which I claimed a bunch of them at the start of the day where I came in and say here's a bunch of VP. Yeah. Maybe maybe they're more generous than I'm giving them credit for but you also have songs that you can buy which honestly I buy like Pokemon fire red and green. Okay. Yeah. Have you decked out your play with cosmetics. No. Well I mean I I customized him because this is how he looks right. Oh yeah you got to you got to change that. Well OK. That's a bad top and short shorts combo. OK. Well then what do we where do we go. I mean we got to feel in here. So here's the deal like red red is my favorite color. OK. I love you in red. I like red. So I don't like any of these weird nylon T shirts. Sleeveless though. You like sleeveless. You are you are a gun poppy right now. Maybe you can find that with red. I will. That red jersey looks good on you. That red yellow jersey. Yeah. I like this. Yeah. I like that because what you got to do though is before you spend you have to look at the pants. You have to you have to make sure you're building out the best look because there's also jackets that you're going to put over this. Oh I even see the yeah there's like jerseys there's crop tops and I go up sweaters. Can I go just the crop top. Do you think Pokemon will allow me. So just go. No I think you always have a T shirt underneath an unfortunate. What are you doing here. And then pants. This is so expensive. Yeah. So I had to immediately spend this is so I 10,000 on this. I didn't even have enough to deck it all out. I had to get another extra 10,000 for my gift to buy the shoes. I don't know about all that though. I don't know if I'm because I'm not rolling up ready. I'm not rolling up to a poke battle. Not fucking. Steased up dressed up with the shoes though. Like where are the shoes at. Are they in this menu. Accessories. Accessories. No no no they're in the clothing. You keep going. They got weird gloves. I got a hip thing that you don't say. I don't like the sale of socks. I'll say it right now. If you're selling socks. I mean you got to give him kudos. No micro transactions. The chat I'm sure is celebrating that and loving that. There is no way to spend. And I thought about that and I was like is that to keep the whales away because this is your competitive title. So you avoid people. Spend a thousand dollars to. To buy the best Pokemon. Is that what we're doing here. Should I get these pants. I like these pants. Those pants are lit. All right. I'm getting these pants. That's a lot I'm not spending all that though. I'm not spending all that. You better go earn then. No yeah we're going to we're going to go out there looking like a buster then. Because that's a lot of money to be spending on these. So but then also you spending money on training. No you're earning money by training. Oh you earn by training. Yeah apparently people will tell you earn a lot of VP by doing the. Okay okay. Yeah I think this way I got my extra 10 G's. You do double battle. Double battle. Yeah yeah. Yeah we'll do that real quick. So there's a problem with this game though. What's up. When you think of Pokemon you think of usually single battles with six Pokemon on your hand. Well more of the competitive people will tell you double battle. I get well now we've evolved to that but like here's the catch. There's not even that. The most basic of Pokemon battles. Yeah. What's up with that. Why am I trying to get strategic. Why am I choosing a portion of my team and not just playing what Pokemon is. So for a context if you do a singles battle you go in you have your teams of six but you have to choose three to do the battle because you see your opponent's team and it's about now picking the right Pokemon. We're playing a guessing game. You're playing the guessing game. I was like all right that's the six they have. What like what three out of my six do I want to choose that I think are going to be good about against whatever they choose. For doubles you're seeing their six and you're picking four of yours which honestly even though I'm with you that like I think traditionally six v six I do think the strategy of having to pick based off of what you what you see you see I think it's fun. I think it's okay. Yeah it's like a lot of people like no that's a competitive way and like that leads this to more of like this is an application for competitive Pokemon. This is not a game that little Susie and Billy are growing up with Pokemon Stadium like you and I were where it's like oh this is my next Pokemon game. No this feels more like an application is right. Exactly. Okay and I'm earning everything. Do you because one of the things I compared this to yeah during the preview was Magic the Gathering Arena and do you see what I'm talking about now. Yes right where it is very much like oh you're just coming in here to battle. So show me the recruiting. Well before I do that I got enough money. Oh you ready to seize up a little go by. I just need to buy it. I just need to buy a shirt. Yeah. Yeah. This is their new official competitive battler Barnel says so not a game but like if the competitor the competitive players don't like it then what are we doing then because the competitive players are tearing this thing apart. You can't be an competitive battler if the competitive players don't like it. What's funny though is that I like it. I played it last night really into it. I think it has. So what are you. Are you a casual fan. I'm a I mean are you a competitive fan. I'm a casual battler. You know I'm like a I'm a intermediate Pokemon fan. You know yeah I'm in the middle. I'm not that hardcore. Yeah not that casual. I'm in the middle but when it comes to battling I'm casual. It's just not one of like this is for our battling scene which is great and awesome but like isn't your goal to get new players. I like this jacket a lot. I just ate that like it only changes the color of the lake. I don't like that. So I had to go get a picked a different one but I do like the cut of it. I think it's very cool. Isn't the goal to get more people into and wanting to try the competitive scene. Yes. But I think that could work. It's working for me. Yeah. This is making me want to get more into competitive Pokemon. I was playing last night. I was like yo this is actually pretty pretty sick but you I think they can get it there. They just have to update it a lot. You have to get in the items of Pokemon that people want out of it. Yeah. You need to get in the items the hell items that people expect out of it. I think they just need to build it there but from what I'm saying I think the bones are here. Yeah for what they want out of it. Well I'm excited to jump in. I'm really looking forward to recruiting and battling all the time. Like a late last night I downloaded this because I was like I cannot wait to experience this and try it. Now my expectations were different than what it is but I am still excited to battle and that thrill of the chase of like you show me yours. I'll show you mine. It's all Pokemon. If you go further there's ZA there's Pocopia there. Yeah right. I'm Pokemon out right now. Because your goal was to suck Pokemon from your other games. Yes so I took the Pokemon from Scarlet. I put them into home. So right now my Scarlet team look real wack right now but they're all in home. How do I get my Pokemon from home because I go here now checking to bring your Pokemon to champions you'll need to link your game to Pokemon home. Chad what does you have to go into the home app and transfer them to champions. All right we're going to go there. Okay we're going to figure this out. I like it bless I like it. Is it safe to stream home. I'm not going to like don't do it there's a bug. We're not doing it. Really why not. I'm not risking. So what happens. So explain to me home as a player that just I just play the Pokemon game. People are going to be on Pokemon. Oh okay then we're not doing that. Yeah no we're not doing that. Okay we're not doing that. Pokemon home is basically like your home bank for Pokemon. Yeah it's where it is the thing that like keeps your Pokemon between different games. You can import them there and now like cool I can export this to Scarlet. I can export this to Champions. I can put this in like other Pokemon games or just hang out with it. I don't know. Yeah okay. Is it actually Chad correct me. Can you export game export Pokemon from home to like a Scarlet. I know you can export them into Champions which I'm excited about. People say so far I've transferred 15 Pokemon I had no issues. I did it and it worked fine Jacob says. If you were saying yes you can. Okay perfect perfect there's no bug. I've transferred around 50. So you're just allowed to transfer any Pokemon. So does this game have every Pokemon or not. No you can't transfer every Pokemon I don't think anyone. Okay only the Pokemon that are. Like what are you doing. I guess I'm just like I'm such a Pokemon OG. I'm like I just play the game. Yeah. They're so. I go and catch Pokemon. They are so serious about it. Where I had to open up Scarlet and take the Pokemon out of my party because they're all in my party. I had to put them in the box. Yeah. And then I go into home and I take them from the box and I can see them leaving Scarlet. It's like all right cool. I'm taking it from Scarlet putting it in home. Okay. And now they're just not in Scarlet. Yeah. And I'm like now I'm scared because I'm like oh my Pokemon they're not home anymore. Yeah. You know what I mean. Scarlet is their home and now they're just not just not there. I don't know. It makes me scared. I don't like it. You can always just put them back. But what if they get lost. I lose them forever. But every 22 hours the store refreshes. Okay. You mean. Meaning I lose one Pokemon and I get a new one. I select a new one. No. You're just you're just collecting them. Like you get one free roll essentially. Okay. After you pick you then decide if you want to rent it. Yeah. Which is temporary. Or if you want to keep it by spending. So here are my options for the day. Yes. Right here in front of me. And so there's my goal to be like hey I'm building out this squad. I'm missing a nine tails. A fire type. I should add this to it. 100 percent. Okay. And so you're going to select. I don't like any of these. It's not being real. I love that we have to have the key Pokemon in a Pokemon fighting game is very important. It's competitive. You know. You get it's a good. That's crazy. I'm going to pick Bliskor. Why. Because it's ground and flying and I think that's a unique like type combination. Okay. Okay. Although I'm going to check. Let me check its ability because like you have the move list. Of course you can change moves in training and stuff. Abilities are interesting. Who's the Pokemon's evasiveness by 25 percent in a sandstorm. Which doesn't really help. Based on people are like in a whimsy cot. Whims a cot. Whims a cot for support. And let's see. It's moves. It has moon blast. As a 10 percent chance of lowering target special attack. As growth boost users attack and special attack and harsh sunlight these stats we boosted about to say OK. As light screen give the user side light screen for five turns. Oh yeah. Let's last geek you're not getting nick because he doesn't care about Pokemon. Has a damage taken from special moves in double battles. Okay. Light screen is good. Light screen is good. And then you have charm. Yeah. Lowers the targets attack set by two stages. And you have Frank shows that increases the priority of the Pokemon status moves by one stage. Preaches the priority of the Pokemon status. I don't know what that means. What's the status move chat. Oh nice. Now you're like is that like when you're not all the terminology like when you're inflicting burn. Oh so is it like if you're inflicting burn or poison or something you go first like the priority of the turn every move that is an attacking has priority like quick attack. I see. These are all, oh man. Cat is Incineroar the move. They're saying Blessie's goaded. Okay. Yeah. It's gonna be great when we pull up the Blessie's team. It's nothing but fire Pokemon. That's what it's about to look like. It really is fire Pokemon as my team. Because I'm gonna have my Skeletor. What if I just become a fire? He's throwing out six fire Pokemon every single time. All right, let's go. So that's how you recruit right there. That's how you recruit. Then you have the, I'll show you the box. Show me the box. Show me everything. His box is where you store all your Pokemon here. Okay. So right now my actual team is Armour Rouge, Dragonite, Typhlosion, Zorarq, which I like Zorarq a lot. Oh yeah? His ability. He has an ability called Illusion. What happens is, if I switch in Zorarq, he comes in disguised as another Pokemon. Yeah. But people don't know. So like he'll come in looking like a Dragonite. If you were like, oh, let me do something against Dragonite, but it's not Dragonite. Yeah. So I'm gonna go with Zorarq. But it's not Dragonite. Yeah. And then it hits Zorarq and then he reveals himself. I got Sloking. Yeah. And then I got Covernite. And they all have items as well equipped to them. They all have. Did you get those given to you? Those were. Or did you buy all these? These are the ones you start off with. Okay. You begin the game and the guy's like, here's a bunch of Pokemon with the items on it. So, oh, interesting. It won't let me do Tauros. Why? Why not? I don't know what that is. Chat, somebody explain that if you know. If he's not usable in this game. Now they're all the same level? When you battle Pokemon, everyone's the same level? I think they, yeah, I think they equalize all the levels. Okay. So you never had a disadvantage. Oh, it has moves that aren't released in this game. So this is the one that I imported. It has moves that aren't interesting. Oh, you can see it there. Yeah, yeah. Tara, what are you saying? I know, I'm just, I'm soaking it all in. I have a lot of questions about like, when you say all this is the application for competitive play, but like, certain things aren't in it. Kind of like bothers me a little bit of like, what do you mean if you made that, shouldn't everything be ready to rock and roll? But it's an odd rollout. It's a really odd rollout. I think both from all the complaints from the people who are in competitive. And then also just like the micro transaction stuff. I know it's great that it doesn't have micro transactions. We're celebrating that. But I think the currency system in this game is just so weird and interesting. And I don't know how I feel about it yet. I think as I feel it out, maybe I'm gonna like settle in on, okay, it's fine. Competitive has regulations, which often Pokemon restrictions. I like that. So it's like magic. I get that. Well, it's like certain cards are banned or like we're moving on from certain stats. I get that, right? What is in Vogue, what's not in? But like why not have every Pokemon available ready to rock and roll and just play off of that? Am I just gonna be a fired trainer? Cause like this is kind of crazy. Got Incineroar. I got Skeletor. I got Typhlosion and I got Armour Rouge. That one kid's just like, man, I hope I brought my blast toys. Psykick. They're also, let's see, for secondary types, right? You got a Psykick. We got Ghost. It's another Ghost. So I think I get rid of Typhlosion. Yeah. Let's get rid of Typhlosion. Is Mousehold competitively viable? You can get a Fremachamp. BigFresh says, hey, get your Fremachamp. If a Pokemon has all special attacks, for example, it's like you might worry a lot about the special attack damage going up and then maybe physical attack isn't as important to you. Someone says if you press Y, you can see the most used option, which I love. You. That's cool. There it is, so everybody, 59% of your Pokemon is using- Careful. All right, we're going careful then. Okay. That's really cool. Yeah, careful alignment. Now I wonder is that just because it was the starter one of it? What do you mean?
