Hey Spit and Chicklets listeners, you can find every episode on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Prime members can listen ad-free on Amazon Music. Me and Ryan have been officially welcomed to the jungle at his basketball sports. I brought it towards the coyotes and I asked him if it was okay if I joined the Spit and Chicklets podcast full-time. A little bit. Ryan Whitney's got a pink Whitney out there now. I just want to get that bag or get that on camera. He's the end of the song, man. It's a full-time member. My only just gotten assist from Chris Bates. Whoa, we're buzzing right now. What is all who biz on that body armor? What is up folks? Oh shit, sorry, what's up guys? What is up? Episode 601 of the Spit and Chicklets podcast. I love you guys showin' our body armor. In sports, winning takes more than talent. It takes strength, reliability, and the drive to go to the distance. Sound familiar? That's the same DNA you'll find in a Chevy Silverado. As capable and dependable as a winning team, Chevy Silverado shows up against the job done. It won't flinch when the pressure's on. It doesn't take plays off. When it comes to trucks, Chevy Silverado's football guy approved. To learn more about Silverado, visit chevy.com. Guys, what a week. What a weekend we just had. Hockey everywhere, football everywhere, Lane Kiffin, one of the biggest scumbags of all time. This guy's unbelievable. I love him. It's unbelievable. This guy, I love it. We'll get into that maybe later. But how was everyone's Thanksgiving biz? Did you do anything? Keith was home. I didn't get to see him. But how was yours? No, I flew on Thanksgiving to Atlanta because I had the Friday, with the Friday broadcast. It was the matinee game where I believe you got a box for it. Yes. Tough, tough sledding. You find out that day that Pasta's out. Who's the other guy? I found out is biz. I'm in the elevator. It's like 1230 right around warm ups. And I hadn't really been on my phone. We had 18 people and I'm just kind of on Twitter and I'm like, oh, Pasta Knox not playing. And the boys, they were like, what? Like they thought I was messing with them. It was his first miss game in like four years, I think too. And then I saw Zaka was out and McAvoy's already out. And I just hammered the Rangers as quickly as possible. I'm like, this is a block. Just to make up for buying that box. Oh yeah. Exactly. Exactly. And then if I was the kids, I would ask to go home in the elevator. But like, let's just go down. No Pasta on the Bruins is like, it's pretty, pretty ugly. That's a straight up a HL lineup. Without those guys. Hey, no, because they got the leading goal scorer in the NHL. Somehow, some way, Morgan Geeky, which any guy like he just tips a beautiful one in that day. I don't know how he has 20 goals, but I did just see he has the hardest recorded shot in the NHL this year at over 103 miles an hour. I didn't know I knew he ripped it. I knew his release was nice. I didn't know it was that heavy. Yeah. No, he's got an unreal release. And apparently he was working again on it all summer. He actually tried to change sticks, but ended up going back to what he was using. Found that odd in the fact that you're, you're the leading goal scorer in the NHL since January 1st. I wouldn't change your goddamn thing. But there you go. There you have it right there. I think Geeky took the lead and then McKinnon quickly then took it back. And then obviously Geeky got another one where I feel like like two or three of the last five for Geeky have been tippins. So not only that quick release, just anywhere in that house pocket, he's fucking fine in the net. So a special player and an absolute score at five and a half million. I don't know, Grinelli was just jerking his chicken when in the group chat talking about his AAV for years to come. So still they ended up, they dropped that one, but they ended up winning that next one. So Bruins, congratulations, still staying afloat with that lineup. And you got to imagine that their coach has probably taught at least taught five for coach of the year right now. Yeah, he's in the mix. Keith, how was it being home? Just good. Yeah, everything was great. Great to see everybody. You know, Thanksgiving, just such a whirlwind of a couple of days, but it was good. And obviously, you know, what happens when you travel, you come back, you wake up sick. You're sick as a dog in the middle of the night, can't move. Had to get IVs earlier today so I could make the show. So shout out me. People may not know we're warriors. Like we grind through these shows. I think I missed one. I was sick once, biz called, and I'm on the bed and like, we're talking to him. And I think you could hear me puking. He's like, all right, all right, I understand. He can't make it, but we've grinded. It's live. So we got to do it. We got to do it. But did you guys see the comments when they asked Geeky about being in the lead with McInan? He's like, yeah, I just don't belong there. But like at some point, you got to believe in yourself, right? I know early in the year, Pasta was telling him to keep shooting that he's a goal scorer and everything and getting confidence from his teammates. But you need that. I need to hear a little more confidence from him and then he'll have 50. Yeah. Pasta's the one who said he could get 50, which is kind of crazy. And then I think since, you know, we got a month left in 2025, I believe since January 1st of this year, he's leading the league in goals. Maybe maybe somebody could correct me on that one. Gee, it's right up near the top. So but but a brutal hockey game, a brutal hockey game. And you know what? The Rangers then they get a big win. And the next day, Tampa, who's money, we're going to get into Tampa. We've had to we've had to kind of hold it, but we were going to talk about Tampa. They pounded them and they lost out of Fox. So the injuries, we got another injury in St. Louis where a guy burnt himself at home. I don't know what the fuck is going on. We got barbecue accidents. We got guys other guys burning themselves too. Crazy. Not good. Yeah, really, really ugly. But um, yeah, that you think you got the hot candle wax out like what was the little BDSM or whatever they're all that's where you're asking. That's where I don't know what he's into. But hey, I mean, I can't put it past anyone these days. Yeah. Get on my you know what I did do when I was home with as I went to a college game. I was trying to remember the last college game I went to. It had to have been 20, 25 years, maybe more was at Harvard and who I think you said Harvard versus Michigan. And I'll tell you what, our good friend Sean Horcoff, his son, Will is going to be making so much money in the National Hockey League. Shout out to your boy, Dubis biz for drafting him. He is he is he was unbelievable. He was the best player on the ice. Both teams I loved watching him play. Just a smart player to knows how to you can tell he grew up with an NHL dad around the walk room. He was just always in the right spot. It was it was fun to watch him. Everyone else not so much. He is he's enormous. Hork's wife, I think she's like six feet tall. He's he's got to be 65 if not 66. He leads the nation in goals. I think he leads the nation in points. They got that max plant. Oh no, he's Detroit pick. Is it his brother? He's he's Montreal pick, I think. No, no, no plant on. Sorry. Yeah. Duluth. Basically, the penguins have the leader in goals and the leader in assists in National Hockey League right now. Okay. So I guess I'm I guess I'm wrong. Are you mean in NCA? You mean NCAA? Excuse me, ZAM plant, 17 apples, this plant family. And there's another one coming. But yeah, I saw that I got to see Hork because he was at the game against the Rangers. Detroit was playing in town the next day. He was going over. So it was kind of sick how Will and Michigan happened to be in Boston playing Harvard. He was there for the Red Wings. Great to catch up with him. Detroit, man, I thought the league did that on purpose. Well, a quick shout out to game notes. They had the plant boys on on the podcast. So I don't know how many of you who are watching live right now or who will listen later. Make sure you go check out our our spit and chick with the YouTube channel where you get the game notes section, you can go watch the game notes podcast. How many subscribers? And we have a great week or 4, 429,000 followers now where we jumped up like 3k since we dropped the last sandbagger. And of course, chick with you, the main one. Did you get a chance to watch it since we're talking about college hockey? Yeah, it's it's amazing. And I'm not a main guy. I'm a BU guy, but it's awesome. And it is very it's an intimate setting there. You and fish, you guys did a phenomenal job. Merleys toss. I don't know if everyone's seen Merleys try to throw his hat on the ice. It was the worst hat throw I've ever seen in my life. Merle's knows it. He ended up getting the hat back. But gee, you crushed that. We dropped out last week was awesome because we had that we had, you know, two pods and we had the game notes, boys. Craig Fitzpatrick interview. I know it dropped on Thanksgiving. If everyone didn't have a chance, just an inspirational interview, at least personally for me, a guy who's, you know, bent through so much has done so much for our country. And it's just bringing hope to so many blind people who love the game of hockey and want to play. I didn't know what to expect because you had met him and I love doing that interview. It was awesome. Yeah, when when I met him, I just knew he said he listened to the pot and I said, Hey, we'd love to have you on just like his spirit and his enthusiasm for the game. And to have something like that happen to you and bring so much positivity to every day, it would be very difficult. And he does it like a champ. So like you said, just an inspiration to so many blind people there. And I really hope that they, when the Olympics gets the Salt Lake that by then they do have a blind hockey in the Paralympics. That would be awesome to see and Jens. Well, I was going to say, if you have anything to do with it, because everyone you've shouted out that should be the on the Olympic team or have anything to do with the Olympics Hall of Fame Hall of Fame, it gets done. So keep shouting this out, Biscayne, because we need blind hockey. Okay, I don't know. Is he? No, they just put the Canada just put wedgewood on the list. Did they actually? Yeah, he's on the long list now. No, shit. I didn't see that. That was the one thing okay, a couple clicks for busy boy. And I think that you've been pushing this Dubis content factory machine and all of a sudden he releases that video with the mayor of Pittsburgh. I don't know if I had seen and forgot like this whole mayor of Pittsburgh, Dubis lookalike thing, but the video I forgot I didn't remember because I was like, this is hilarious. They are legit twins, except I think the mayor's like five four. I mean, he was a little guy, but they looked exactly like wait, that's not I don't think I've seen that's not real. No, that's not a that's real. And how tall is Dubis? He looks like he's six seven. It looks like he's standing on his wallet maybe. Yeah, exactly. But mad at six seven. I love six seven. Yeah. Oh, I love it too. I love six seven is the best. Like I'm telling you, I'm not an adult that's like I'm so annoyed by this. I love it. We were down. We were down this weekend seven five on Sunday morning. We played against this kid. Every game we play you get eight goals. I don't know how this kid is playing at our level. We're not the top level. And we're down seven five and we made it seven six. We're the only team that would still be losing a game and have the entire bench go bananas that it was six seven. I'm talking all the kids skating to the back six seven six seven. I started doing it. We're losing it's the third pair. No, best. Yeah, I care. Six seven forty one. I love it. Every it's inclusive to every kid. Nobody's getting like bullied on it. It's just dumb humor. I agree. Riders probably getting bullied for his dad doing it on the bench. That's a no no no no no no no. Every kid loves it. You don't get bullied for seven. Ever. Jerk. What do you think it'll ever get old? Yeah, at some point and there'll be another stupid thing that I'll be all in with. Kids stupid humors right up my alley guys. I'm not exactly like no, I know I love it. Because I'm a rocket Scientologist here. Like I like stupid humor. Going back to the dubious video. Funny they got the two phones going like at the draft the one year. So making fun of himself self deprecating very likable right. Yes. All of a sudden do be easy. Hey, this is a did I tell you to buy the stock at the right time or what? Well, they did get pounded by your Leafs, but I don't they drop that video same day as the dubious ball and now they're 0 and 2 in the dubious ball and get pumped at home. So tough sledding but obviously very happy for my Leafs. But we were touching on college hockey a little bit where you guys done like yans like what's what was the pace like? Did you have a good time? Yeah, it was great. That rink that Harvard rink. I think it was perfect size. It was packed. It was awesome. But like just like a bottom row, you know, Biz probably what would you say? 5000 people? No, no, not even. No, I'd say max 3500. 35. Yeah, it was perfect size. It's like what we should have had when we were in Phoenix for a while. Just 3500 sold out. But it was awesome. You know what? Like hearing about Michigan, I thought they were going to go in. I thought they were going to dominate them. I thought they were going to be doing tic-tac toes everywhere. But college hockey is just kind of still a straightforward game. You're not really getting a ton of playmaking. Like there was a couple guys that were that was stand out that were really good. Like Draper's kid is just like him the way he plays like flying up and down the ice. There was a ton of the St. Louis had a kid on Harvard. Hey, Duke had two kids on Harvard, I believe. So there were a lot of NHL alumni guys on the team. But yeah, I thought that I thought the hockey was going to be more skilled. I'm not I don't know why but it was it was kind of still that old school college hockey that I remembered of the, you know, a straight North sell type game. Do you find that with you find that more former players have kids playing now than before? Or is it just recency bias? I was wondering that too. I don't know. I don't know. I'd like to look at the numbers. I bet you at the highest level, it's always been somewhat similar. Maybe not. That's a great question because you I think we just more hear about them and think about them. But when you look at it's not like that many. But that was the rank I scored my first college goal in night before Thanksgiving. My freshman year Harvard rink. I'll never forget that one. And it is a great rank. What did you did you notice? Michael Hague, the Canadians prospect. He plays a Michigan. He's supposed to be very, very legit. He was a good he was a really good passer. Him and him and Hork were really good together, especially on the power play just kind of finding each other. You could tell that those two were kind of at a different level than everybody else. Just like they're hockey sense wise. They were the two that were making like the little plays that you see in an NHL game, like little breakout passes hitting a guy through the middle center low, not just like flipping it up and going to change. But she was telling me that what league is Harvard ECAC? Yes. That's like their type of game. So maybe Harvard drug them into that type of fight. Or maybe if Michigan was playing a BC or a BU, it would be a little different. But all in all, it was a fun, fun experience. There are a ton of people, you know, the hockey world, obviously you check what fans as well. But yeah, it was a blast to be there. One with my brother and his two in his three boys too. So always fun to watch with them. Is Cornell in that same division? Yes. This year, I think the top team in the ECAC Dartmouth, they've looked very good. He plays at Dartmouth. Who? Kate McCrae's brother. Shut up. Yeah. Yeah. I noticed that he follows me on social media. So I followed him back. I haven't said anything yet. I was, I was going to DM him like blink twice, you know, if she's working undercover. But I was like, oh, it's probably just some random kid named McCrae. No, no, there's pictures up with her and stuff like that. But, but so I somebody reposted it. Maybe it was her of them pumping somebody like seven two. So he's playing there now. And then just quickly going back to the university talk of Chickle-Tsu. G is actually doing BU next one. This weekend, he's filming it. And I got a trip. I got all the kids solo this weekend, the wife's away on a little girls trip. It's one of the most intimidating things of all time. I think dads out there will tell you. You got, you got now also show her happy birthday rider. Dan thanks to him. He turned eight. So riders eight, why it's five cows one. And I got them all from Friday, Friday morning to Sunday night. So it's like, I'll be doing like pregame naps and like maybe some pregame meals getting ready for the weekend. And we have Amazon Prime coast to coast Thursday night. I can't wait for that. So I'll be driving home after and then getting right into it. So I'm going to try to get a late night coast to coast. They should, we should let you leave after the early games because you're doing that. That's a lot. Don't even, don't even be too nice. I want to stay with you guys. I want to watch those late games. Those 10 o'clock starts, you see some crazy stuff happening in some of those games. Maybe Celebrini will be playing. I'm obsessed with watching Celebrini obsessed with the Anaheim Ducks Anaheim Chicago on Sunday. What a hockey game. But quickly I'm going to try to get into BU to be a part of that with G. And if not, I think I can go back with him and film and get involved in that before it releases. But I love that he's finally representing the Terriers on that. And going back to, to the one with main, I thought that the players that he did it with were like, they brought such good enthusiasm in that one. And it really like drew me in. So unreal facility. I love how the, like the modernization of like the, the, the locker room and everything they got going in there. And then you walk out that crazy tunnel they got, and then boom, the old school barn with the nostalgia. So I know we've had a lot of content coming out with the sandbag or peaking and stuff, but any of you Chickle's fans, make sure you check that out. Cause those are, that's one of our best series going shut out to fish and G and murals on this one too. So and peaking final episode Wednesday, eight PM Eastern. Yeah. We were excited for that final one. It's a very emotional, a very emotional and then humorous ending in a sense where yeah, this was not planned before we started filming this. And by the end of it, it was, it was a, one of the best life experiences I've ever had. And I can't wait for you people to see it. But we have a trailer. We have a trailer. We got a lot of new characters. Oh, this is when it gets a little spicy. This is insane. Got run over by a truck. It was like touching up if I was going to die or not. These roots, it's like a minefield. You got to catch up to those guys. We're in a different plan right now. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, I'm going down. This doesn't make sense now, does it? This Suzuki pours like an Irish gypsy. Can you believe it? Can't wait that top perspective. That's a perspective type video I could tell from the from the trailer. This yeah, we've had a lot of that with with Patrick on here. I love having that. It's good. You know, I'm drowning. I'm getting rattled to both three kids alone all weekend. It's like, buddy, would take a would you ever hire? Would you ever hire some? I'm joking around. We'll have a blast. We get games all weekend anyways. We buzzing around. But would you ever like maybe bring a buddy in or just like one extra helping hand? Like just call somebody my brother. If Susie wits around for sure. Do the Brian Yandel whenever his wife would leave for like an hour where he'd have like 15 people at the house, just, you know, all hands on deck. It takes a takes a village. I know. But back then none of us had kids. We had nothing to do. Now everyone has kids. They got their own stuff going on. He's got kids around the house. Exactly. Yeah. Wait, I'm getting news here. You you hurt your L five S one again. If it's after this track workout I saw you post about I tweaked it on the track workout. But but hey, listen, doing track workouts. Because I had a I've been consistently in a sense of like working out. I had two good hikes. I think because of the two hikes, I was a little tight lower body and didn't get a big enough dynamic warm up. And then I did one, you know, when you kind of do a couple bound jumps and then you and then you sprint. No, I don't. That's the thing. I don't. Yeah. When I feel gone, I don't play anything dog. Yeah. I tweaked it. But you know what though? I got up this morning at 630 and went and saw my trainer for eight o'clock and, you know, did the bike and did some movement stuff and just making sure I'm stretching my hip flexors. So I'm not going to if I ever do it again, like I did yesterday, I'm not going to let it bring me down anymore. I'm going to I'm going to take a few anti-inflammatory. Why do you make don't make that fucking face with I'm not making a fucking that I was thinking of something I'll say when you're done. That's it. Say it now. That I know you're saying you're not going to make a big deal of it. It's not going to affect you. But there is a guy who can really say that an injury will not affect him. And that's Kyle Paul, Mary, dude. Yes, because that's true play and that shift. And he gets into the corner and an absolute bummer for the Islanders who've been a surprise and graded. Oh, I hadn't seen that picture. Jesus. That's a tough one. So he's with dry still in the corner gets a, you know, tangled up. And you could tell not necessarily it was a torn ACL, but all right, he's wounded here. He's limping off. And I don't know who on Philly had the puck, but he strips him that poor bastard had no clue. Like he's coming behind him, lipping out there like biz. If your L five s ones hurting, you're down. I think the trainers coming out. Paul Mary gets himself off and what a video to show the young kids. There are so many young kids who lay on the fucking ice when nothing's wrong. Get up, figure it out. Get up. And Paul Mary, who had every right to lay down with a torn ACL strips of defense in the puck, little dish over, Heinemann ends up burying it. And the Islanders, I think they were down three, nothing at the time. It got him going a little bit, but I just feel horrible for him out for the year. Now, what'd you think of the play? Oh, well, I thought he broke his leg the way that he reacted and the way that he went down, right? Cause you could hear the, the Yelp and some fans obviously still confused with the rules were like, why wasn't that offside? The defenseman brought the puck back in his own end. Cause he had no clue that Paul Mary was still in his own. And, or like, did they just, he obviously probably didn't notice cause he was probably in behind the net. And next thing you know, he's just, Fliers fans were saying it was too many men. So maybe it was, but it's almost like, ah, guys, we got to deal with this one. I think you nailed it though. The, the, the, the, like the consummate hockey player video of just battling through it, still making the play. And it's a little bittersweet, right? You get this viral clip that you could show kids for the, for the rest of your life. And you kind of get the whole, put that feather in your cap, but you also lose another very important piece to your lineup. I mean, that's Romanov and then now him in the last few weeks where man, they had such a good start. They had such good momentum. Like, you know, at that point I'm like, damn, they can be fighting for a playoff spot. But if with losing him and then Romanov, I don't know, man, that's it. Those are two very difficult losses at the front and back end. So, but just like you said, an ultimate clip, Jance. Yeah. And wait, I'm glad that you said that about the little kids because I had a conversation with my nephews. I was watching their games over, over last week, they were playing some games up in Canada and like kids would get like this fake hurt and be down on the ice. And then like the puck would get loose and they jump up quick and take two hard strides. Like, I remember my dad telling me like, you're giving your parents a heart attack. If you're laying on the ice, like somebody might not know what happened, you're worrying everybody else when you're just laying on the ice. So, kids, if you can get up, get up, please. And save the embarrassment of yourself because if you do get up and then get in a hard check, you look like a fake faker. So, play the game on us, play like Kyle Palmieri and you might get rewarded with an assist like he did. And you mentioned your dad and not trying to be a hard-o, it's like, I think my dad and your dad quite often told Brian and I, like, if you're down, like you better, you better be dead. There better be an injury. And I'm talking a lower body injury because if it's upper body, the legs are fine. That's why Palmieri getting up is that impressive. I mean, a lot of people, Torney Ciel, you're getting helped off the ice. So, a cool moment. Also, quickly with the Islanders, my favorite Schaefer play of this week, actually, was a penalty by him. I don't know if you saw him with his quick ass feet, dive headfirst. He ended up tripping Ryan Leonard. They'd already been battling in front of the Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam Zam What's wrong? Hey congratulations, dude. Thank you. Appreciate it Hey, you came a long way from dressing up as me for how only Mike. I'm proud of you I forgot about that. What did you wear to make yourself look like yans for sure Air Force ones? Cone on the head cone on the head Yeah, that was that was pretty gutsy for a young guy. Yeah, that's that's not really my style I'm surprised I did that no, and I think every someone asked me before and I was like, yeah But I'm gonna hand it up and pretend like I'm mad at him and I think I stayed mad at you for like a week Three weeks No, no I mean real to me. Yeah. Yeah exactly when yans gets mad at you. It's very intimidating I saw it happen with with Boyd Gordon the one year They were they almost went out back in the parking lot where the players entrance and they almost had it out Yans was putting on the foil Yeah, Maddie congratulations, you must be pumped obviously staying in Montreal the team that you grew up watching as well Yeah, thank you. Yeah, I think we it's a great group here. So I was I didn't want to go anywhere else So I'm happy to get it done Did you think it all about I mean, I know you say you didn't want to go anywhere else But when I saw your contract come in it it's a hell of a bargain, right? Like you you're making plenty of money, but at the same time if you'd gone to UFA I think it would have been a Much bigger payday. I don't know if you agree with that like did that thought go through your mind or was it more about being happy in Montreal? Yeah, definitely. I think I can be realistic and kind of know my value at a certain point But I feel like it was more important for me to stay here But my main goal was to be on a team that has a chance to win in in the near future. I feel like we have that here Obviously I've got my family here and got two kids now and that brings a lot more to the table than just you know Being a 21 year old that is is only focused on hockey So I felt like on the hockey side like I definitely wanted to stay here and then Yeah, I feel like it's important to be able to show your teammates that you're willing to take less Leave more money on the table for for them to bring in other guys Especially as we're getting into those years where hopefully we start contending and stuff like that if everybody's taken a little bit less like You've seen it on all the teams that have been able to do it like pit back in the days like talking to the guys that I played with there That's what they all did You know Florida's been showing that lately So it's it's important to be able to do that to keep the group together What's your nickname? What do the guys call you on the team? So actually this started when I was in Florida remember Mike Hoffman called me Billy Yeah, and it never stuck at all in Florida So obviously it's because of Billy Madison like Mike Matheson and Yeah, never stuck in Florida. He brought it here in Montreal and all the young guys thought it was hilarious So that's been it ever since I could see Caulfield getting a chuckle out of that. Oh, yeah, Nick going Self-proclaimed well Billy so so so you grew up watching the Canadians you were you were born in Point Claire Quebec Yeah, it's like 20 minutes outside downtown Montreal So you sound like you're English like obviously you probably grew up like being bilingual like are you more French or more more English? More English. Yeah, the so that's like the west part of the island of Montreal over the airport is predominantly English But so yeah, I grew up English and English community, but went to French school to learn how to speak French Oh, so that's a perfect like when you got there It could be probably a little bit overwhelming for some guys and like the way that you're able to communicate obviously with your English teammates But also then answer like, you know French media, which could be a little bit difficult sometimes like you've probably felt like that Transition was unbelievable when you ended up coming over Yeah, I mean I was I went to school in Boston playing in the USHL. So by the time I got traded year I was in the States for you know, 10 11 years So my French was definitely a little rusty at that point and I remember like I got traded and then had a press conference like right right away And I knew that it's it's important to people in Montreal to like have a Quebec guy speaks French and and so I was so nervous I was like this my one shot my first impression And so I went okay, but now that I've been here for four years like I've definitely picked it back up a lot more So far this year, I mean a good start for you guys like maybe slowed down a little bit, but I'm more interested kind of in in Demodog like this guy We've talked about him numerous times on here the skills and like how exciting he makes the game Is it one of those things we're in practice? He's pulling things off that he hasn't even tried in the game yet that you're just always like holy shit. Oh Yeah, I mean I listened to you guys and obviously listening to you guys talking about him and then he's He's incredible like the stuff he can do on his edges. Obviously his hands are insane his vision, but like the way he can cut and turn and spin-off guys is so hard to defend as a defenseman going against him in practice like you have to give him a little bit of extra space and I feel like guys around the league like you know that guys that yet You have to be more careful with and and give them a little more time in space like you you always see guys like Kutrov They kind of have a little extra space all the time But it's because you have to otherwise they make you pay for it and I feel like for a guy to kind of already have that in But he played 20 25 games into his career guys already know that he's one of those guys Is he wearing like the Gucci track suits track suits to the rink like what's he wearing? No, he's he's new balance. He's a warrior guys. So just all new balance sweatshitos They love the Russians love the tracks who it's a Fucking love the trackies. Oh man. Is he is he uh, is he like cocky off the ice or like? What's his temperament like? No super like quiet calm his English is very good which I was surprised by yeah, really really good and That was actually a funny story about the the sweatshirtle is obviously this year. There's no dress code and stuff like that and so We've been trying to find our way through it without looking too crazy and One time we were traveling and the text kind of came out the night before like Just just look professional, right? And so he comes to the next morning of the sweatshirtle on and his vest on ready to go onto the plane We're like might not be it. He's like this is all I packed. Yeah, exactly color new balance tracks, you know Yeah, yeah didn't mean any harm by it like he's such a great guy That's awesome Maddie. How fun is it for you? Cuz I know I mean I know you're 31 years old now But I also know that you're a rink rat always a guy like you got a kick out of the rink every day But having those young guys around for you like just keeping you young keeping in obviously with your son around the ring too I'm sure it's amazing. But how fun is it just being around those young guys and how much energy they bring every day? Yeah, I mean it's contagious, right? It's especially for the you know, the rookies that are like walking into every new building for the first time and and experiencing like the you know, the Blackhawks National anthem for the first time and we just played in Vegas and all those things that like there's different elements to each city and each team that you play against that It's fun to kind of let that rub off and you off you but no, I think I think it helps two ways Like I'm definitely a more serious guy and takes things pretty seriously and so they kind of rub off on me a little bit that You know things could could be could be worse sometimes like it's not the earth isn't fallen and stuff like that So that helps me as a person as a player coming into the ring feeling that energy in that youth. So Yeah, it's really fun to be a part of with you've you've mentioned this before and we were there for the four nations But playing in Montreal, it's nice because it feels like the fans They know so much about hockey where they'll cheer even the subtle little defensive plays where maybe you don't really find another building So you grew up there you grow grew watching them So you probably were accustomed to it But it must have been nice when you finally got moved back there just like where you're getting that credit when you're making these little plays Where they really take notice Yeah, they do and and it's funny. It's it's almost like Because they do understand the game so well it's dead silent when nothing's happening because everyone's actually paying attention, right and and so You kind of feel the silence too and then the contrast of when something happens, which is pretty cool I think in some other buildings sometimes there's a bit more of like a Social scene where it's kind of a little bit of a buzz all the time Whereas it's like dead silent and then like you said you make a good good poke check and You're getting tears for it. And so especially for a guy like me I'm I'm not like the young guys that we have that are just doing ridiculous things with the fuck all the time So I'll take any any cheer I can get you have poke check in your fucking It Is the top place though for like it kind of goes back I mean doesn't go back to PK But he was part of it where you have players like Lane Hudson Demidoff and when they start like reeling it up Oh, yeah, one building you're like, all right There are all the fans are doing are like watching this happening getting louder and louder That's the best part of being there and yeah, like you said a little five foot break-up pass on your backhand And you're getting like a round of applause You'll take your money you can get them My question for you is I mean it's pretty obvious to people who watch the game have seen you play You're one of the best skating defensemen in the league And I didn't know where that came from like was that something always a strength of yours something you really focused on at a younger Age because it's incredible to watch how it looks so easy to you with how fast you're going and your edge work He's not even the best skater in his house dude his wife's a better skater than him. Oh, she played Yeah, team USA. Yeah, oh, okay. Oh your kids Stock on their kids biz. I will yeah I always say if we were to do like a trophy case and stuff like that in our house to be all our stuff I don't have anything so No, I think for for myself. I've always been I'd say above You know the average in terms of skating but but definitely something that I focused on as well I worked hard on to be able to get to where I am Did you have a specific? skating coach No, no, I mean all through my career Yans probably knows mr. V Worked with him a lot in college Greg Brown who's who's now the head coach at BC on my as an assistant at BC He's an incredible skater. He'd still he'd jump in on drills and attract suit with us and be the best player on the ice as a coach Yeah, and so definitely learned a lot from him Just kind of like small things within the game that just make it so much easier as a defenseman whether it was skating or You know stick placement on box outs and just those little elements that that helps so much especially in the pro game So when what you say when you're at BC, he was he was one of the coaches Yeah, he was the assistant coach and then he I think he left for two years to go coach in us. They tell and then when Jerry York retired he took over as a coach. Wow. So you never had a specific person in the offseason helping you that I mean We'd hit it on the head. That's like the one thing especially when you were with Pittsburgh that one year That's what I really noticed you come on the scene because you were playing in Florida before that I'll never understand why Pittsburgh I traded you after that unreal year you guys had But so like in practice like you would see him do something And you would just like ask him a question like hey, like why did you do that like with with that motion and stuff? And then you just slowly picked things up Yeah, pretty much. I mean it was it was a bit of a trial and error sometimes in games, but Um, I feel like a lot of it is just repetition before and after practices getting used to You know as defensemen you talk a lot about like kickbacks and and not crossing over especially in battles and stuff like that and It's it's super foreign and uncomfortable when you first start doing it because you're so used to just crossing over left or right to pick up speed um, but the more I worked at it the more comfortable I was at it and I was able to kind of just start implementing into my game without thinking about it, you know It's weird now. It's like all the forwards all they do is cross over to gain speed where I feel like a lot of coaches tell The d-man it's like no when you cross over that's what he's gonna beat you. You know, you're just open up. Especially how fast there now You gotta do the math. That's what Lidstrom was so sick at is was just those c cuts. He never crossed over skating backwards So it was like you couldn't you couldn't beat him. Um, there was a quick question that popped up from the chat Uh, in your experience so far like what do you? Yeah, I don't know if you could see that right there like Boston or Toronto Is there a different vibe and a bigger rival to you when you got a home game against one of those two? Great question. That yeah, that's a good question. I I don't know. I think There's nothing like a saturday night in the bell center. Um, and so that's kind of already Up top and then whenever it's Toronto or Boston it just adds fuel to the fire um Whether there's a a bigger kind of rivalry between one of their one or the other I'm not sure. I'd say it probably has to do with where the teams are at in the standings and What's going on in the year that that particular year? Um, so I they're they're both pretty special But for you guys you probably I mean everyone I know even when we played like you circled that data when you were going to play Montreal So you know you guys every night are getting everyone's a game or at least Their a effort because you want to show up in those games, right? The when you're in Toronto when you're in Montreal when you're in Boston So even for you guys even with such a young team like getting everyone's a game every night It's got to be a challenge throughout 48 or where is it 42? 41 41 No, yeah, it's uh You got to use it to your advantage too and and know that you're gonna get really good energy out of the crowd And kind of let that lift you up, but um, I mean you guys know it takes time to to be able to Figure out what your b-game is and it within your own career, right? It's it's impressive the guys that can come in and be super consistent right away Um, you know, I know that I I struggled with that earlier in my career where I'd have some Unbelievable games where everything was going right and then I'd have some that were awful and uh Bridging the gap between those two is it's not easy to do when you're playing against the best players in the world Um, and so it's it's something that takes time to figure out No doubt. Well, thank you so much for joining us. I just had a couple more I just wanted to ask about uh, what it's like being coached by martin st. Louis and then also Probably one of the more underrated players still in the league nick Suzuki where you know, he's just he just gets it done So first I guess start with st. Louis and your your your relationship with him and just his his style of coaching Well, I think it's uh It's pretty special to have a guy that has the resume that he has Um to work with every day Um, I think it just brings so much respect and credibility right from the get-go that he knows what he's talking about Um, and then the just the passion that he has. I mean he's made More than enough money in his career. He you know, he's not doing this because he needs money or something He's not doing it because he necessarily, you know, didn't win a cup and wants to win a cup it's he's kind of accomplished everything that he needs to in the game to Be acceptable to just ride off into the sunset and and he's not he's here Grinding away bringing that energy and passion every single day and and so you know that it's real he's not faking it and uh, that's That's pretty contagious for players to be able to experience that and and so we're not even talking about You know how intelligent he is as the coach and how how well he understands the game and makes you think about the game totally different Um, but just that kind of passion aspect is is pretty impressive to be around Must be nice to because I know in the beginning of your career and you've had coaches that were like that old school type Where as soon as practice is done they're off the ice but all the clips you see marty Like he's helping guys work on their game and he's he's out there showing guys what they should do like that That must be amazing to see Yeah, I mean, I'm sure as a head coach. It's it's very difficult to um To kind of keep focusing on the macro of everything right like what does the team need and what does At the end of the day a team is just a sum of a bunch of individuals doing the same thing together and so he he really gets that that You know, whether it's confidence whether it's giving a guy a boost or whatever the case may be that it boils down to like What can I get out of each individual? Um, and so like he said that's not fake. That's not you know, he's not doing that every so often He's out there all the time picking guys out talking to them. What do you see? What do you think? Um, and so I think that really gets the best out of each guy individually And billy just going back to Suzuki. It's an olympic year Oh Hard look at our crew behind the scenes. They work quick. Don't go as fast. Well, yeah, that's impressive Yeah, we got him in a cage back there. We get it. No, no, well, you get they'll get fed after now that Yeah, that was good. No raw Suzuki I feel like he you know bit of a snub last year. What uh, you know You know, Olympic team would it be on your Olympic team? You're you're a passionate Canadian. What can he bring to the Olympic lineup? I think he could play any line, right? Like he could play center. He could play wing He could be a guy that you put on the power play He penalty kills when when we need him to um, you know, he can play a super responsible game or he can You know drive offense and so I I feel like especially in a tournament format like that where Um, we saw with four nations like there's a couple injuries here and there and you need guys to slot in and out and Stuff like that like what better player to have than a guy that can kind of do it all Like him and so yeah, I think You know, you look at him getting the captaincy at I don't know how old he was exactly but um 22 23 maybe at that point Maybe even younger. I'm not sure but um To be able to do that in the city of like Montreal and it it was just kind of like yeah That's fine. I can handle that and then goes out and has his best year of his career And then the next year falls up with an even better year and last year was even better and then this year He's on pace for a crazy year. So um, yeah, he's he's super impressive to be around Always kind of has that calm demeanor Which uh, which is huge for our group to to be able to be a guy that's um, you know somewhat early on in his career still and and um pretty close in age to a lot of the guys that uh, That are pretty young on our team still But be able to show how you can have that demeanor and that success No matter how many games you've played how old you are Um, this is really uh something special I guess my my last question would be just about about lane Hudson like it's it's incredible to watch him He's also another guy we talk a lot about like so elusive. He's so quick and My thing to you is like the year before he came in you had over 60 points running the first power play It's something that's like it's incredible to look at those numbers and then he comes in He ends up kind of getting that role after a little bit like was that hard for you? Or is it something where you're like I understand what's going on here like it just for me Would have been tough because of what you had proven the year before having that role Yeah, I think I think that kind of boils down to ego, right? Like it is Is it would that bother you because you're not getting as many points and and if that's the case like why does that actually matter? um Is there is there a way that you can find value elsewhere in your game where you're kind of Being an important part of the team, but maybe it's not scoring goals and and so that's what I tried to do is um He's so special at what he does and he's way better than me at it. So like Who am I to kind of fight that right? um He he's obviously bringing a lot to the table on that side of the park to to drive success for our team And so my job is to find a different way to to drive success for the team and and be an important part of the team Wow, what a classy answer round of applause. We got to get a couple clicks in the chat for this guy That's why you got that. Hey busy leadership right there Hey, well, thank you so much for surprising us. Congratulations, buddy. I appreciate you coming on. We all do and um You know, good luck the rest of the way dude. Congrats on everything and billy one more What where are you gonna splurge on now that you signed another big ticket anything? Not really honestly, uh, we'll see. I think there's a couple things around the house and my wife and I were Open to do and holding off on because we didn't know for sure whether we'd be here, but uh, yeah No, I think I'm gonna get that skating coach. Yeah He's like I'll put a little bit more of my ride Do a couple index funds All right, billy Bill, you're the best from me. Yeah, it's like anytime you later What a guy yans fucking writes man. Whoo. Whoo. That is uh, that is something pretty cool that he's like I just had 60 points. He's better than me at it and I'm gonna that's ego It is you know, and that's a pretty cool like mature answer from a guy that there's a reason he has the a On his jersey and and that great guests yans you're crushing that on a prize guest Why did why did Pittsburgh move on from him? Why did florida move on from him? That's another good one Well, florida's one that you could be like, okay. Well, they yeah, I guess it was cops, but yeah But Pittsburgh. Yeah, I don't I don't don't understand that one. What was even the trade g? Can you look I think it was Petrie Petrie? I think oh, yeah Petrie's older too. Yeah Hey Petrie could skate back in the day too when I played with him in anaheim. Yeah, he was smooth Smooth Shrides half the ice was crazy pretty crazy that he skates that well and never had a designated skating coach. That's He's also the biggest freak I've ever seen like in the gym. He won like he was doing like 50 pull-ups. He's a Really? Yeah, it doesn't drink or not. He's a freak that guy, man Billy wow does he have a Quads that was a huge laser is everything everything dude. He's shredded six pack huge legs everything except for the This we can't say a word none of us could say a word on that one Matheson and a two 2023 fourth round pick From the penguins to the canadiens for Petrie and ryan polling. So Probably one that the penguins wish that's a hex doll That was a hex doll deal. Yeah, I don't get you that'll get you sent to that's a tough one Well, hey penguins play the flyers tonight in what should be a good one and looking at the east They sit as seven eight the two wildcard teams right now No, I nobody saw this coming. That's that's that's that's one. I know I that's one number off I'm trying here. I'm trying missed it, but I would have been down if it was six and seven boys like them um So that's gonna be a good one tonight Philly very surprising. We've talked a little about Pittsburgh Um, the zegrous thing is awesome and and he's come in there. He's got 24 points at 24 games He's a legitimate wizard in the shootout. You can't stop him in the shootout has a mist I think he's 67 percent in his career and like for uh, um comparison like tain's like 40 percent so I don't zegrous is just he has move after move and I think he's just waiting for the goalie to do something He comes in so slow off the wall. They're giving up less goals. So that vladar deal looks great Oh, and and and I think talks figured out a way to because they're not scoring that much more than last year They're just giving up less. So talk good for him, man. Like I didn't see this I thought both these teams would be bottom five. Yeah. I mean you touched on goal tending. Vladar has been playing He Vdara was great last year with um Out in calgary as I do doing the one two with wolfie. Um, and as far as zegrous is concerned I believe he's got the highest shootout percentage since it was introduced to the nhl is uh, yeah He's at the highest. I think what I thought what just said that. Oh, no, I didn't say hi I said what it was which was six. No, he is Uh, but I didn't say it was the highest. I didn't know it was the highest. No, he's number one yance Yeah, he didn't say that so check yourself brother. My bad. He hasn't he hasn't missed this year, right? And another big component though is is they I believe they're five and own shootouts So you think about those five extra points like that's a make or break for that team to get into playoffs They brought that up on the tnt call today about his wizardry and um, who's who's second? Um, like do we have a list of maybe the top five and keep in mind here? He's probably shot 20 to 25 times so we're not talking about a guy who's only went like five times and he's got like a 60 or 70% Or I guess that would be impossible 60 or 80 percent um But uh, what are the who are the yeah, you got a g so number two is He's a current player. I'll let you guys guess and he plays for dallas robertson Correct who's also fucking lightning. He that guy's insane right now We talked about tuck being the probably the biggest sought after free agent for sure. It's got to be robertson, right? Yeah, but robertson's rfa and tux ufa. Oh He's because he only signed a bridge. Yeah, he doesn't he's not ufa yet But listen, I feel like fiers Like he's doesn't matter now. He's got one year of restricted free agency. Maybe two He's got all the cards He's got them by the balls if he's like I'll move on for me. He can go sign He's getting easily over 10 now. I don't know how yeah now based on this year Like why would dallas even could keep thinking about Like getting rid of him like he's insane that team dude. I had the dallas auto a game on a little bit yesterday They pumped auto who's on this ridiculous road trip, but they why johnson? I wish I didn't just say his name. He leads the league in power play goals Like in this in this past two nhl seasons I wouldn't have guessed that he had a hat trick ronton and was a was a machine He gave he gave why johnson an assist. Oh didn't even look he's behind the net I don't even know how we saw him backhand there. She buries that then he gave jayme ben attack And he took it off his foot and just fired it through the crease dallas's Second league right now Dude, they are and but they're not getting talked about like colorado what did suck in the game was though that giant defenseman is a bishel Yeah, he went down and it looked really bad He was like like it looked like really bad not the weird thing was the interview wasn't one of those gross ones You got to look away But his pain and what he was doing on the ice I was like shit because their d is so good and they're forwards with roberton like this like yeah They're gonna be very difficult to beat and you know, they're gonna play Colorado and go to seven games And then it's like the the does the ranting and show happen again So well the good news it doesn't have to be in the first round and we can probably get that one in the second round That's a ridiculous first round matchup. Yeah, it's too much Ranton and looked like I was watching that game too He looked like vintage jogger like when he would just turn his back and guys would just fall off of him and then spin Make a pass like he was outstanding that robinson gold the one that he scored Did you see how open he had? Uh, I think it was maverick bork backdoor wide open for a one-timer And didn't pass it. I was like, oh my god pass it pass and then he sniped it Obviously, that's when you know, you're good when you can just look guys off backdoor and Where he just went like uh taught over the glove over the glove. Yeah the craziest part about that goal was I don't know how we got it Maybe off a turnover stutzels chasing him through the middle and like almost went to pass him off And he said nobody was there I was like it's probably because I talked about how good stutzels, but I completely just chickled It's like the opposite of uh, joe Thornton I guess when he was in san jose taught mcclellan would have meetings and he'd play video of where like he had Like the whole net would be open and joe would be looking for a guy back door to just give him a sick pass for a tap in And he'd stop the tape and be like joe. You got to shoot that and he'd be like, nope. I'm a passer Robertson's like no, I'm a shooter. Yeah, I'm a shooter shooter shoot Yeah, so why johnson has 11 power play goals already this year? I feel like that's an incredible season and he's played what 25 games So dallas dallas at colorado just complete wagons another wagon The Tampa Bay lightning Lightning fans couple fans in my dms. When are you going to really discuss this team? I said, I apologize. We'll get on it the jergens out yep, and Based on their start It was maybe a little worrisome, but now they got bassilevsky who's just being himself again I think he's like over nine tenths safe percentage. I had it here Well, I got the full I got the full breakdown and I sent uh There it is right there. I sent this to coop and uh in uh r.a. And I said that you oh you oh r.a.'s world a little pop in for the chicklets bump that we gave them I look at these fucking numbers guys. This is a when when did we have them on the podcast? Do you remember the date when we were in new york? October 23rd Wow October 23rd So the next day they start this run and coop was obviously at that point He was there. He was a little self deprecating He said he might be joining us on the pod if it continued because he thought he'd be getting the hook But no third or 15 and three Second for for goals four per game second the nhl and goals against per game just remarkable Kutcher obvious 27 points in those 18 games Hegel He's got 26 and 17 games that radish kid. They got the he's got his his brother's in the league too. Isn't he? Yeah, he's in the Rangers. I think yeah time. That's right He's had a great start to the years at 12 points in those in the last 14 games So I mean posh is loving these advanced stats numbers right here I ain't loving that it's not the devils we're talking about though The crazy how many the the amount of injuries they've had too, right like headman's out mcdonald's out Chernak he's out too, right? points out Point and point hadn't even point hasn't really done anything this year, right? When he has played that's like the weirdest part like biz would you ever look at a guy like braden point? Is he is he still is he injured right now or no? Yeah, he had a he had a pretty tough start to the year I don't know if it was something that was lingering where he just didn't look like himself off the hop His points aren't there like even eye tests like he just like didn't look like himself So he was one of those guys that was already announced to the olympic team though, right? I don't know but I looked at the the lines for the four nation final and he was playing on the top line that game Like so I was wondering like is there any chance? I didn't know he was he was a name that was already on I think that he was in the top six guys who was already named to the team So the the in like yeah, you know, it's cooped guy, right? So for sure he's probably making it but the fact that they're so deep at center ice if you're not playing good And you're a little bit banged up like I mean, I wouldn't risk it I wouldn't risk it you're telling we just talked to mapus and a guy like Suzuki you're telling me that You know, you can have him you could have shifley who's been on an absolute terror so far this year There's like so many guys in the middle of the ice that they can bring That also can play other positions like you said do Yeah, you know what it is with that. I've noticed that I I think is Remember how they were like when they were on their runs like their bottom six there It was the yanni gourds the colmans They were a pain in the balls to play against and it feels like they're more playing that style game Obviously kooch does his thing and he's like how many How many passes does kooch have in that last game who'd they play last game the rangers where he just comes over the blue line Stops up hits a late guy like he's just so good But I feel like they're getting led by their bottom six guys just four checking the shit out of these teams You know, they might not be getting goals and points and stuff But they're driving that team right now and and then kooch is doing his thing like he always does Well, I mean that raddish kid. He's a bottom six He might have been bumped up since they've had a few injuries But I mean he had 12 points in the last 14 games But I completely agree with you yans like it was a great move to go get gourd back Last year from from Seattle because I feel like he embodies what what Tampa likes to do and Like it goes back to just like coops comfortable room, right? You don't want to keep having all this crazy turnover You want to go back to guys that you feel comfortable with and yeah And boys the craziest thing about all this is the fact that koop has never won a jack Adams. Okay? So who cares it Who cares like it doesn't need I know I don't want to say it doesn't mean anything Because it's a hell of an honor But you just see guys get a gas left and right after winning the jack Adams Like I I don't think koop honestly like cares that much. Maybe I'm completely wrong on that No, I think he cares he cares about cups and that's those are the only that's the only hardware that matters I just think that if they end up winning the atlantic and are in the top two teams in the east To finish off the year. I think that he deserves strong consideration We just mentioned points been out they got off to that slow I just think it's remarkable the the buttons that he's able to push because we all know You get a coach for four or five years All of a sudden guys start tuning them out a little bit the message runs a little bit dry But he always finds a way to Remotivate those guys and get them firing on all cylinders So and like I mean it obviously helps that Vasilevsky's playing back to what we're used to from Vasilevsky But I tell you what considering we gave him the chicklet's bump. I will be beating I will be beating the jack Adams cooper for jack Adams the content all season long but he deserves it And you know what that Conner geeky he's down in the miners. He's lighten it up in Syracuse But that's a pretty cool sign for Lightning fans based on his brother, right like didn't work at carolina didn't work in seattle look at him now He's enormous So that's the guy you know is going to be coming in the next in the next few years If not like later this year he could be back up play a big role in the playoffs. I don't know But yeah, Tampa continue to do it coach just once again really doesn't get I don't know why Maybe it's just being in florida. You'll never just hear about him as much as others and he just dominates Makes it look so easy. It's so easy Um In sports winning takes more than talent. It takes strength Reliability and the drive to go to the distance sound familiar That's the same dna you'll find in the chevy sovarado as capable and dependable as a winning team Chevy sovarado shows up. It gets the job done It won't flinch when the pressure's on it doesn't take plays off when it comes to trucks chevy sovarado's football guy approved To learn more about sovarado visit chevy.com um black hawks anaheim yesterday was Electric anaheim goes up three nothing. I think it was 10 minutes into the game. If not a little bit more And it was like holy shit. What's going on here? Kind of thought there'd be a special matchup Going into it. It was a lot of badard number one carlson number two in their draft They've both taken these enormous steps this year and chicago comes roaring back. Okay, but dard but dards goal When it got behind everyone I think it ended up being the winning goal that move to be that in tight And I three different fakes he ends up having the wide open net to slide it into that was filthy Ryan green who played at bu last year? He looks awesome on chicago And they end up pulling out the win But the best part was the mctavish and badard beef Badard gets his fourth point buries the empty net he's got two and two He's now josh it a little bit wasn't he well They'd been going back and forth a little bit him and mctavish after badard said that god were buddies We were roommates. I think they played on that world junior team together. Right roommates. That was the summer one Um, and he mentioned like how he loves playing against him. It seems like they hated each other But maybe that was just two competitors going back. I love seeing badard Like that like that that little edge to him. It was like holy shit You add this too. It's like you're your mother fucking people too You're getting into the mix after the game. There was a little skirmish Love seeing mctavish go Adam connor murphy comes flying in with the chokehold But the best part was biz I think we have Like that could be a 10 year matchup with the age of those two teams and how they look in terms of rivalries building Oh, I I agree and body. I'll say I I think at this point now The way that he's played you almost have to put connor badard on the olympic team. Yeah It's it's crazy if he's not on it Yeah, because it's not worth also the like the the noise if you don't pick him Like it'll just be a storyline. They'll be fucking going into the gold medal game And they'll still be asking fucking coop about it. Like it's it's crazy But he is just you just talk about that snarl. He's brought this year that confidence and that pit bull mentality It's uh, he's on a different level right now and you just talk about these two young squads going at it I mean What's what's gunther 21 leo carlson's 20 there? He's they're both leading their team in scoring So it's remarkable to see and and and I agree the trajectory of both these teams This is going to be a great rivalry for years to come and then throw q in the mix too with the fact that he's back Back playing against chicago. So pretty pretty pretty cool. It's they definitely they even towards the end of the year last year They were a fun group to watch playing hard, you know, scoring goals having fun out there, but it's definitely You know brought that over with them this year Obviously blashill has been great too But the snarl that and you guys mentioned it the snarl that But dard has in the rest of their group has like they are not getting pushed around But I think that they need to go out and get a legit heavyweight a guy that can come in and be like, okay If things are going to get a little, you know weary You have a killer to come in and really step up for the team But I do love how they are in every single fight every battle They're not shying away from everything they they've been one of the funnest teams to watch this year That's for sure. Gold tendings kept them in every game. I feel like Spencer night's been awesome Just finding ways who's the young demon there? Blasic he's a lot of blasics awesome than the the russian 50 lishunov like he's been great too like for such young players Like the future is so good. There are a lot of stuff that you know I'm sure if you're a blackhawks fan will remind you of the 0708, you know the brown there like You're building for your future right now and they've got the pieces and fun group to watch and you can tell the crowds are into it too, right? Like it's buzzing. Lishunov's 30 though. Oh, he has to be. He's got four kids. I thought he's a 30 years My buddy was in the wise lounge the other day. So Two wise four kids. How about this stat though for badard? Four games four games in november He was held without a point And every game after he had multi-point Outings and then the last one was was sunday when he had four points So that's even like crazy. You're like, all right. I'm gonna I'm gonna get held off the scoresheet like watch next game That's like just a sign of like another year in the league another year older I'm with you're celebrating him both have to be on the team. No questions asked And Schaefer throw throw the future of Canada but in the on the roster at least to start you talk about Them getting like some sort of a heavyweight. I feel like if if I know if I had a kid and he's like six two and he's a big kid and even if he's got skill I'm saying start taking fucking boxing lessons in the summer because there is like there's a shortage of guys who could chuck them Like and we could segue this conversation into Detroit Because they don't really have one and the fact that the marit cider has to fight fight castelik the other night and get his eyes Pump shut listen I think that that I like the fact that marit cider has that to his game And he's willing to drop him with a guy like castelik as tough as he is but They got to get somebody because they have a lot of young assets that are going to be hitting their primes here Which kind of started have like lucas raymond's hit this prime now Right like larkin in his prime. I would say marit cider is kind of you know, he's just there But they got a they also got to find somebody who can chuck them Like you look at it Now you know why a guy like jennel got as much money as he did If you want to go you need a guy like the or how about Olivier like you're right Biss i'm with you that that is the one role now that like it does there's not a ton of guys like that But it also is like hey your son six two He could skate maybe has a chance of playing someday. Hey get tough learn to fight like I It kind of has to be in you too Like that is not something that every kid that's big and can move is going to be willing to do That's why it's so difficult to find. Here's your motivation. Look what genoja scott. He's getting fucking paid like us He's making he's making a million dollars less than fucking geeky is like No, I got a cousin my cousin jeff brown. He's got a kid and you know, I follow his career obviously and I tell him Every time I talk to him. I said listen, man, you have to be It doesn't matter how good you are coming up like the elite of the elite in the nhl It's like you have to almost be born with it like there's yeah, they're better than you. Sorry That's just god given and you're never going to get there I said your main objective is go out there and work your bag off every shift Be a piece of shit and just be noticeable bring energy That's what that's that's where your role is and that's where you can find a spot in the nhl Even if your skills are are average or maybe a little bit above average So if you got to obviously be able to skate to be able to play nowadays But my god, definitely a few teams out there need to address some sort of toughness And it wasn't even just citer having a fight um castellic Janow, I thought he broke sandin pelicans back. I don't know if you saw the hit He literally crushed him into the boards. He just folded like he's going down his face is like, ah, and there's just Nobody there like to do anything and and that's that yeah, there's it's so hard to find guys They could play that role now in detroit. Yeah, they do need somebody like that I wonder if they have any maybe prospects coming up Not sure maybe the wings fans will let us know on that back quickly to the anaheim chicago game Did suck for anaheim mora's a Morazik went down like no contact and it looked bad and dostal's already out So that's kind of something to keep an eye on in anaheim You lose your goalies like you see winnipeg's trying to just survive without uh Without hell about this question for you. Did you see macarron and logan stanley fight in nashville? it was nashville winnipeg and At the end of the fight Too big boys big throw big punch thrown. I think it was by macarron when they were down and also The other moment fight I saw this weekend was great for tage tompson He went and fought stefan nosen after nosen head shot him knocked him out last year So he's like and he said after the game He's like I figured i'll take care of my own business and he was chucking him and got the best in it He won the fight in that fight But even at the end of that fight tompson who's pissed off from last year He kind of gave him one when it was down I know like did you ever do that when the guy's down you keep throwing like sometimes you're going so crazy You don't know but were you able to calm yourself down? Yeah, I would say that if if there was a reason to Like if a guy was being a piece of shit like for instance like I remember we used to play against syracuse all the time and It would never be against morassi because that would always be like a like a like a standoff Where we dropped the glove but that derrick dorsett He was a fucking piece of shit to play against and I have all the respect in the world for derrick dorsett And what he went on to end up doing in the nhl because Exactly like I was just talking about a few minutes ago He's that guy who had average skill but showed up every game and was the biggest piece of shit on the ice And he would fight above his weight class like I was a way bigger guy every fight He was fighting above the weight class fast as shit too. Like you said you gotta move You gotta you gotta move right so he was a middleweight But there was a few times where yeah like on the way down knowingly that we were going down I'd give him the extra one just because he was being extra shitty that day, but Um, he's the type of guy who could handle it So I think it has to do with time at a place like obviously when tage tomson did it I'm like, wow, he's getting him back and answering his own bell for last year And you know and he wants to get that extra one in and inflict a little bit of pain and which was done to him last year So I have no problem with that. I have no issue when you're doing it like real late and there's no reason to That's when when it's got less. It's all about this the the situation It goes back to patty. Why yelling at rotten and going down the tunnel like yeah Most of the time I'm not happy with a coach talking to a player but It's patty. Why just took out his guy for five six months with a with a you know, fucking him up And he was passionate in the moment. So I think we give that one a pass So it has to do with with time and a place Can I ask you guys like on the tage tomson stuff? There were obviously some rumors that he was unhappy and buffalo, you know, those were neither confirmed or denied But if if they finish, you know bottom five of the league again Do you think there's any chance this summer that we see a trade request from tage? so I thought that Gee because when I saw him having to fight his own battle I was fucking rattled that somebody else on his team didn't do it because it's tage tomson He breaks his hand before olympics. I got to be you know, just upset about it But I heard he went in a bunch of guys wanted to fight For him and he went into that locker room was like i'm taking care of this and called the dogs off and he was like I'm doing it myself Which all the credit in the world to him for doing that uh, but Yeah, I mean He'd obviously be the biggest price tag in In the trade market this if if there was one for him this uh, you know Whether it was at the deadline or over the summertime just because uh, how young he is how good he is And I would imagine we're gonna see him on the olympic team. He's gonna put on a show there like his stocks only going up and up and uh I think it would be crazy if if uh, buffalo traded him But you know if he wanted out then it did get a huge haul for him Well, how many times have we seen this story? I know you know got rid of ryanhardt They got rid of orielly the list goes on and on and on of guys who went and want to stand the cup but I mean not only him g what about um Darlene like look at how long dolleen's been there trying to get the right this ship and contribute to that so I I kind of like You know, I like that don't move like I like what he's brought but right now they sit at the bottom of the east They got a some very winnable games here coming up But if it's another year where they're in the top five worst teams I don't know man. How much how much longer do you stick it out if you're those high-end guys? I mean dolleen ahead of anyone has a right to ask for out at this point because Yeah, he just had nothing to play with and going back who would have who would have fought for Paige Thompson like who's there who's their guy? I feel like their back end is so soft Like the softest of most back ends for how big they are I agree, but it's also like I don't know if I'm on that team. It's it's anyone right like jordan greenway I'm sure would have done it and he like he's been in and out of the line The best teams could be anyone the best teams it would be anyone jumping in But bit by bit. Wait, you missed it. I I was pissed off I thought that he had to do it himself But I heard that he went into the locker room and said I'm taking care of my own business and he called the dogs off But there were guys willing to fight for him, but he wanted to do it himself So Yeah, and then last year nobody did anything and then dolleen said like asked about he's like well that'll never happen again I don't know. I for one am shocked that the sabers are in last place again Yes, it's insane Um, that's a depressing conversation. I think we need to lighten up the mood it is and with that It's time to get to our guy people keep asking me about my 2026 resolution I've gotten the usual stuff read more maybe work out maybe stop ordering food like i'm feeding a family of four This is my real goal this year get comfy and that's where bombas comes in I've been wearing the all-new bombas sports socks and I swear they're the only reason i'm even attempting to run again They're cushioned in the right spots sweat wicking super breathable I basically live in the sunday slippers quick dog walks grabbing coffee feels like i'm walking on clouds and underneath it all Their underwear and teas are crazy soft once you wear them everything else in the drawer feels like a mistake for every purchase Bombas donates an essential clothing item to someone facing housing insecurity. Where is this legend? Man this is weird because the times i've got to work with you you were in charge you were running the ship You've done it forever and now you're just sitting back and you're one of the guys on the panel You're not the host anymore. I know and i'm usually on the left of the panel. It's freaking me out on the right I can't turn like kestans. I can't turn that way if I brought a quiz to you you might have a meltdown But I didn't I didn't I just want to hear from you and all the great stories you have how you been I've been good boys, uh been awesome We're back in my hometown this weekend seeing some old friends I gotta tell you a quick story right off the top. You got a new nickname for your podcast because uh, I spent the day with my mom Wonderful lady 92 years old still doing awesome, but she's moving soon So I was taking her to an appointment and she's she's super hard of hearing to the point where you have to Basically like get right in her face and talk really loud and and she lip reads Essentially, okay, but she always wants to know exactly what's going on in my life so I said I have to get I have to get home soon mom because I have to do a podcast And I don't know if she knows what podcasts are and she said oh what what show are you on? and I said spitting chiclets And she said and she said Spearmint chiclets and I said well, that's a real thing. That's a good guess right is the holidays Yeah, so that was early So we went to the appointment and then I dropped her off and I said I had to go and and she said what show are you on again? and I said Spitting chiclets and she said okay, and as I was leaving she said good luck on the splittin chipmunks Have fun with the split Hey, I'll be a fucking chipmunk make some shirts I'm gonna get I'm gonna get a hoodie your hat with splitting chipmunks on it. Oh, where's your hometown? I won. Okay. So are you a sense fan? I Haven't you guys the business sucks the fan out of you. I get accused to be a sense fan I like I share for the Niners in the NFL You know, I probably cheer for team Canada a little bit. Sorry boys. That's shocker is uh Honestly, I you rule what's good for the network like I want all the Canadian teams to get in and go deep I'm a little concerned about this year. Oh, yeah, but Yeah, I don't my kids are leaf fans because they've grown up in Toronto That's a little weird for me. But hey, but you got you must get tortured because everyone they We're very open about our teams, but you guys kind of supposed to be neutral People must say that you love this team. You love this team. You hate my team. It's constantly. Well, you know the deal with broadcasting I'm sure you guys get a two biz gets it on tnt So you could make the same comment About the Leafs you make some 30 second comment about them and half the people in the comments will be Death you're such a freaking homer and the other half will be why do you hate the Leafs so much? That's so people hear whatever they want to hear right you can't please them That's why you write books and tell stories now. That's right. That's right. That's right. Or do us a candlelight vigil for the maple Leafs on tnt like biz did so Exactly thanks for the plug there yens, you know, I was uh, I haven't been all with you guys in a long time since the first book I wrote beauties and this is the sequel which you guys are all in But I gave you guys a hard time. I think if I can remember correctly, it's probably five or six years ago I think I was on during coven That you know when I started the first book, which is just great stories I just asked guys to tell me one great story And like gretz got back to me in like two hours and bobby or got back to me in a day And it took it took biz and and wit like four months or whatever. No, it's but I don't have many good ones No, no, it's okay, but you guys got surpassed this time when I started the book You two guys were the first two guys I texted because I said nobody has more characters on I said guys Is there somebody who wasn't in my first book or maybe you guys have had on? That would tell me a great story that I haven't had yet and simultaneous you you said yans Now this is before yans was on the pod full time, right? So right away I get yans number I reach out to yans and right away he replies He's like, oh super honored to be in the book. Love to tell you a story. It'll be awesome And I'm like, okay, let's set up a date. So we set up it like I was summer. I think so it's like august 5th There's something so a night before I'm like a yans. We're still good for tomorrow crickets So the morning comes I'm like hey yans Uh today anytime today work for you Brickets So now you're like, you know the experience I felt like I was young again like in college and you know, you know, you have text it Although we didn't probably have phones back then but you know, you have me the girl She gives you a number but she didn't really want to and then you text her once and you text her twice Now you're feeling like an idiot. So now like I wait a week and I'm like, hey, uh, Keith if uh, if you still want to be part of the thing I don't know if you've changed your mind no problem if you have but you know, I'm still Crickets and then finally I do like the desperation text. I think I called David amber or somebody working I'm like, do you know if like yans doesn't like me for some reason did I say something to you live? Yeah, and then out of the blue one day. Oh, doth. I'm sorry I I busted my phone in nantucket and I didn't get a new phone for like four weeks There's no there's no apple stores there And you know what? He was very apologetic and he gave me an awesome chapter in the book. So uh But I felt like a jilted lover for a few weeks What was yans a story in the book? Well yans there So like I said, I asked for one story but some guys give me a bunch and yans And sometimes it's so hard to take them out when they're all good So yans chapter is called seven short stories by Keith yandle And then and I think it's and two more by kevin haze because when I was done the chapter I talked to haze and haze added two more. So yans chapter is All sorts one is called living with biz. I don't want to repeat it because I think he told it on the pod But when you came in hot Into uh, arizona and you were making fun of the table kick donor off the table. So he tells tells that story Uh, I don't know yans, would there be any stories in the book that you haven't told on here? No, probably not. Yeah, just probably the amount of times I've been on, you know, a recycle animal Yeah, you guys are both the greatest thing. I said this last time like when sometimes when people ask me to describe the book I say it's spit and chiclets in the book because that's the whole point of it uh, so Yeah, I owe so much to you guys at the same time you're a curse Because sometimes I will get a chapter done like I did a a chapter with bruce budro And you know, I was done the chapter and like two months later He comes on your pod and I'm listening going off Don't tell the ovechkin out after curfew story. Don't tell it. Don't tell it Sure enough. He tells it and then louis comes on the wango And I'm like, oh, I had a great chapter with darsie horny chuck and I'm like, don't tell the story about horny chuck Leaving the alligator on your front porch. Don't tell that Sure tells the story. So I can't connect like I live on a podcast and live in a book because yeah People who don't listen to our pod so what like what originally sparked the idea But just because like obviously working with tsn you have probably guys when they're done their seasons come join the panel And you've just probably heard so many of these are like the hockey fans deserve to hear these stories behind this from behind the scenes That's a hundred percent it. I mean, I've been hosting that panel now since oh two So almost you know, almost 25 years and I've had so many guys like yourselves come in and when you're a host You know, you you know a biz like you do the pregame or whatever and then you're sitting around watching the game eating pizza And during that time I would get all sorts of stories from guys and at some point I said I really need to put this in a book at some point And uh, it's funny the first book I was terrified that I was not you sign the book deal and then all of a sudden you're terrified You're not going to have enough stories because writing a book. It's like 350 pages. You know, Nate Bargaitz He always says that that's a lot of words and uh, so I was worried I wouldn't have enough so I kind of leaned on all the guys like Bobby Mack told me a story and Drager and all the guys at work Uh Because I was just terrified I wouldn't be able to get ahold of enough guys But then the first book came out. I wasn't going to write another one But I have a lot of guys reaching out to be saying oh man You should have had this you should have had this guy or I gotta tell you a story You should have had this guy and so that at a certain point after a couple years I said I gotta do another one You could sit down with Terry Ryan and Terry Ryan senior and write a third one Terry You know Terry so Terry's chapter has a chapter in this book and I know Like a lot of the stories you guys have told on the pod before And uh, you know your pod was what made me reach out to Terry But with Terry I wanted to sort of tell the whole story of Terry's life because I I feel like it felt like a movie For a guy to be like Newfoundland's great hope Uh to flame out have all the crazy stories that he had during his career And then to come back, you know almost end up homeless briefly for a while in Toronto And then Biz you go out and visit him. He comes on the pod. He sort of gets a name Ends up doing some Some movies and and ends up in Shorzy and then does that last fight Which is part of the book sort of the last last scene of the book I wrote it like a screenplay that chapter because I really feel like you could make a movie on Terry Ryan's life the chapter is called Terry Ryan the movie and uh Yeah, it's you know guys like that the funnest part is just sitting Terry. I met at an airport We sat down and I was asking him about one of the stories I think the one where he bashed his teeth out with a sledgehammer And he started doing the backstory and he was I looked down at my watch. He's three hours in he hasn't even gotten to the story He's like you want to shroom James? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He could definitely He's like a goose bumps choose your own ending, right? Like you don't know what way you're going at spider webs here You got to bring it back spider webs there. But oh, yeah, he's he's a treat the one that recently went viral I believe it was on the bar down podcast of you telling the story of brady kichuk Messing around with claudieru. I was in tears listening to that one. Do you want me? I mean, do you want me to tell it or do you feel like it's old already? No, no, I would love to hear it again You know and these are with some of the moments a lot of the time sometimes I know the stories when I call But a lot of the times I have no idea I just arranged to get time with brady kichuk And I have no idea what they're going to tell me and it's a bit like a a bit of a high wire act Because if you don't get a good story, I'm like, how am I going to do I got but brady the book But when brady told me the story I hung up the phone. I was like, man, this is exactly why I wrote this book So I'll do a condensed version for those who have heard it So basically brady walks into a practice one day day before a game And all of his sticks are taped together like 20 rolls of tape typical hockey prank And right away he goes Jiru it's gotta be freaking jiru The only other guys in the room were timmy stutzler and alex to break it So he goes and he takes a saw from the trainer's room and People were giving me a hard time in the other podcast So I didn't explain this right and made me look like an idiot, but he just makes a little tiny cut I guess there's a certain part of the of the shaft if you make a little tiny cut that's not noticeable to the eye It will ruin the integrity of the stick and it'll snap And so he does it to three or four sticks And he figures he'll go out for practice jiru's a hothead. He'll snap three sticks. He'll have a fit everybody will laugh hilarious Well, then brady's the captain of the team. He gets busy jiru must have grabbed another stick nothing happens during practice so the next day they're playing the blues And sure enough they get a power play like six minutes in And this is on youtube you can look up the game Uh Jiru busts a stick runs back grabs another one just knocks a little muffin out of the air Snaps another one and is losing it. There ends up being a tv time out I think the power plays over and by the way brady's sitting on the bench and has no clue Right, that's the part which is just so brady And and what but jiru is fuming and I guess in jiru's mind now clothes telling me the story. He's like Somebody messed with my sticks and brady shins on the blues. They're good buddies. He's like it must be shenner So he starts fuing shenner from the bench going shenner you mess with my sticks, right? And when he said that brady's like Oh my god. Oh shit. He's using these sticks in a in an nth lg And he's freaking out jiru six next to him. He looks down the bench and uh Debrink and stutzler giggling their asses off And he looks over at them and says you take this to your grapes, right? You cannot say a word but he can't you know brady's such a good guy. He can't He can't not say it. So g sitting next to him on the bench. He taps him. He's like G uh, it was me And jiru's like what? I I I cut your sticks And jiru, you know, who's the ultimate pro. He's like Like he couldn't even conceive you do that. He's a little game dude. We're trying to win in the nth l and uh So i'll tell you the ending because i've told the story so much I didn't tell it on the other podcast but the so they end up like brady played super guilty got like four points I think they won seven or eight to one drew got a bunch of points So we finally forgave him a couple of days later, but it wasn't until a few weeks later that Uh brady said by the way, that was you right that that taped up my uh, the taped up my sticks He's like no, it wasn't me And timmy stutz over in the corner goes it was me. Oh my god And so he was there and knew the whole time it didn't say a word. He skated free the whole way But but I get that was uh, I get why jiru I get why jiru would be like that because that was around the time where they were missing playoffs There was a lot of pressure. So like every every game mattered so much So he probably couldn't fathom like what the fuck my own teammate would be right But of course, you know brady would have never done this No, if he had any concept that it would ever happen any game But that's what's so funny about brady is that he wouldn't after he didn't use him in practice be like Oh, hey, dude, like grab those sticks like it didn't work, but I he just Well, there was still like two more because I think I left out the part where as soon as he breaks the second one Like brady runs to the trainer is like you have to like get rid of the next two sticks on the rack Yeah, I'll make them a couple more. This cannot happen again And then you mentioned on the other pod too like thank god they won so we got this story Yeah, because we know no way brady's telling that story to anybody if if they lose for sure That is an all-timer. I got the book and the first one's incredible I haven't started reading the second one yet, but I looked through and I played with brennan morrison He's hilarious. So I saw that there's a part about an arbitration hearing for him Yeah, so you gotta give us that one. Well, you know, you're talking about how you get stories for the book and you know part of it Like the first book you guys gave me about five people kelly chase gave me about five people. He was invaluable thinking about kelly um But I call the second book a little bit six degrees of kevin biexa Because kev was one of the first guys I talked to and when we were done kev told me a great story about getting when he was a rookie he got Uh marcus naslin had a team party at the house with the wives and everything They were serving jailor wine and and biexa like didn't realize but just must have had like two bottles And he says he can hold his liquor I don't I don't believe he can because he was puking all night And then they had escaped the next day and he couldn't stand and so the guys were trying to you know help him out bury him in the lines Uh, but I guess uh, whoever was the first power play maybe sammy salla or something got hurt And so that was his break where alan viniel was like You're you're running the first power play unit and he could barely stand he was bambi And so that that's biexa's story and how the biggest break of the career came when he could barely stand up on the ice But at the end of the interview kev's like you you got to talk to brendan morrison because brendan has a crazy salary arb story And in my hand i'm going who wants a salary arb story in a book salary arb is the boringest thing ever But I call brendan and so brendan was with the canucks back when it was the dave known as brian berk regime and uh He'd had a good year. He was playing with naslin and burtuze So had a really good year and he's up for arb and they were only I think there were three or four hundred Maybe he wanted 2.4 and the knucks were offering 1.7 or something over a two-year deal And berkey hates arb. I think this is berkey says this is the only time he ever went to arb because it's wasted my time and I know berkey with his tie around his neck. I don't want to waste time in the summer in arbitration cases so berkey sends a text to morrison's agents like we go to arb And uh, he gets one more penny than we're offering i'm letting him walk because i don't want him right So it's a big game already and it's a lot of tension they get into this little arb room Which I have any you guys did ever any you guys go to arb ever thank god No, morris is talking about he's never been through it tiny little room in toronto with a little table on one side is berkey, you know and known as and their lawyer Who's this french canadian guy and then on that side is morrison, you know his agent and the nhlpa lawyer So they do their arguments back and forth and then they have closing statements just like a case So the guy the the canucks lawyer I I don't want to offend anybody with a french canadian accent, but I kind of have to do it this way So he does the he does the wrap up like the closing argument, you know, like Like tom cruise and a few good men and he's like I want to tell you a story about the elephant and the mouse and morrison's like oh Hell like where am I right now? and he goes there's an elephant in the mouse going through the the The forest together and they come across a raging river And the mouse is like I cannot get over the river and the elephant says I will help you get on my back And so he goes on for like three minutes telling this little kids fable And the elephant gets across the river with the mouse and morrison's like where is this going? Then the guy stands up like for effect and says in this story Todd Bertuzzi and marcus naslin were the elephant And brandon morrison was the mouse I'll take the size of a mouse as he's telling that's preposterous So the you know as if he did nothing all year and and he was completely carried and uh I guess, you know, he walked out of the room like a complete shock and burkey tapped him on the shoulder and said Hey, it was not the personal aid buddy. That's just business And I think he won the case so they settled in the middle and the conox did accept that despite the fact of what burkey said and there was no hard feelings burkey was laughing when he was telling me the story too, but uh Uh, it's just it's so funny and he's a brandon morrison still in his office as this great caricature That his agent gave him of an elephant in the mouse crossing the river and the mouse is where his number on the back That's so good. That is so good That kind of reminds you of terry ryan and millberry when he was grinnell alone at the the draft Like sometimes when those guys get in a room, they just fire our arsenal at you. That's right. That is so that is crazy Yeah, james one of one of my favorite and just from playing in phoenix and hearing all the stories Todd simpson like have you guys had him on you? No, I don't oh not since i've been on have you had him No, I don't think so you you got to get Todd simpson on so he's like he's a known prankster like unbelievable But if you could tell the one that yeah, he's chapters called the prankster because there's quite a few pranks in this book But I think Todd simpson's one of the more legendary ones ever I know you know one biz because I think nasher told you once about like the day he got waived Todd simpson uh, he yeah, he took all the car keys at house And took them off the things and put them in a pile on the day He got like five minutes after he got waived and was leaving the team and said Took him a month right home boys and it took them these guys like I think I think it was like a lot of their house keys Oh, yeah, it took the way so guys had to keep bringing them back to the rink and saying no tried this one Yeah, like it was just chaos was he involved in the you know that that powder that they would put okay So this is the story. Okay. All right. It was it was ray whitney and there's if we have time There's a great ray whitney story that ends the book But I think ray whitney told simpson about this when he was in florida that you know I heard you guys talking about heat last week. Thanks for finally watching it biz But you know in all the bank robber movies the die explodes like on the money That's the way the cops catch the bank robbers Well, apparently it like some of these police supply stores you can buy this stuff So ray whitney tells todd simpson That you can do this and obviously simmer one of the great pranksters. He goes right away to the store and buys it and So his plan is to like put it on some guys gear and you know So he and donor donor You know, everybody loves donor there and so he wants to test it with donor So he puts a little bit in donors jock Like he gets to the practice early and puts it in donors jock And he's waiting the whole skate to see if donor reacts or starts getting itchy or anything like that Because this thing this dye just turns completely purple when it interacts with heat or sweat So he's watching donor and he said afterwards everybody left and donor was staying in the shower and he was kind of You know creeping in the shower looking at donor to see what donor was doing But donor didn't give off anything. So he's like I didn't use I must have not used enough Because he was being cautious. So the next practice he comes in early He puts it in every player's gloves Except donor. I think in the two goalies Right and he puts now a liberal amount of the stuff So they go out for the skate and you know, nothing's happened at first But five minutes in guys start like taking off their gloves And there's like purple everywhere and you know, you you react you put it, you know, you move your helmet now it's on your head and now it's on your shirt and uh Chloe the mu comes out and he was angry. He figured something had happened And he starts yelling and this purple all over and suddenly it's just it's like barney the dinosaur exploded on the ice Right and there's just purple everywhere They're trying to run a practice and it's all over their gear and everything And uh, you know simmer did it to himself, of course being a smart crank so he's the same way He's like what the hell's going on here donor. Why are why are you so clean right? Oh, no And uh, so it was a complete mess He did feel bad because I think he had to cut like a 10 grand check to the cleaners because the entire dressing room Was an absolute disaster Uh, but he he never told anybody about it. And I think you know, you couple you guys have heard about it But for years after like when he was playing on other teams guys would come up to a face-offs and say simmer Will you were you the guy to put the purple shit in? and uh But he's like he's you got to have him on because he's uh just an absolute legendary dude Yeah, it ruined yet. I want to say they all got new gear because it was like for like a third jersey type thing So it was all this brand new stuff. So he'd ruin like you said like 10 It was probably more than 10 grand it ruined all the guys didn't wear a ton of new gear And I heard stan wilson who's the trainer there was absolutely So pissed off. Oh, yeah, but it's so hilarious him not putting it in donors and he's like oh donor did it and then donor Like took down his pants and he's like no he got me too. Oh by the way a donor So afterwards, I guess simmer said simmer did tell donor and it's like when you put it in your first Like did did it affect you? He's like oh, it was all over my junk But he goes I didn't want to give whoever it was the satisfaction So I stayed in there for a half an hour just scrubbing my junk was so getting the thing off because I didn't want anybody Know that it affected me his hog still purple I heard another later. I heard another one that he did was uh He'd go to like the local barbershop and get all the hair from there and lube up guys The their front windshield with vaseline and put the hair on it and then like you'd put your windshield wiper on It would just make it a thousand so there'd be guys driving down the highway with their head out the window because they couldn't see brutal Yeah, yeah, just Some old school ones were vicious. I think it might have been brad may who did somebody Was it was he playing vancouver brad may At some point where that he took down the the sunroof And then he got all the industrial bags of popcorn and he put it in somebody's brand new Bm buttery all the butter was all on the on the brand new leather It was just you were a young guy and bought a new car forget about it. It was done. It was brad may uh brad may's got a good story in the book so The year that he got traded to the ducks that the ducks won the stanley cop. He was in colorado He got traded and I think his 30 seconds into his first shift. He got hurt And so I imagine you're trying to make an impression on a new team and the next day gets called into randy carlyle's office And carlyle's like, you know, I didn't even want you brick You wanted you but I didn't even want you and now here you are hurt, you know first game Like what a dud of a trade for us and so may's all rattled like may's a guy everybody loves everywhere He goes and now he's in the dog house already and I think they had a golf tournament a couple days later and He's playing playing with like four of the guys or eight of the guys and they're They're wait. They're trying to wager but nobody's betting 20 bucks. Of course nhl guys and your money So I don't know who it was george peros or one of the guys on the team says we're gonna play touching randy And oh, I I remember hearing about this because I was there. Yeah, what the hell is touching randy or whatever and uh And like, oh, yeah, so randy, I guess randy, you know this better than me with randy Didn't really like getting touched or having people in this personal space I don't think he liked anything. It was a thing for randy to get touched So Everybody who lost like the force and that lost that golf round all had to like touch randy in an aggressive way Like in the next 24 hours and so may you know, he's already in the dog house and he's the last guy They make him be the last guy to get on the team flight and everybody's sitting down watching as you're gonna touch him And he kind of walks by randy spot like gives him a big arm on the shoulder. Hey coach right Randy's like So in brad's they like touching randy was like this big bonding thing for him to get into the ducks I just love the name of it touching randy is like my favorite chapter title. That is yeah, that's a that is a silly name What's the one about uh, well, it's got connor and leon with the beer league story. Oh, yeah How did that come to be? Yeah, you might have seen video like it was video this year There was a bit of video last summer uh this past summer of them playing but The story is actually from the previous summer Uh, so connor is I live in aurora, which is about 40 minutes north of toronto And the town just north of us is new market and there's a great great beer league in the summer It's got a bunch of tiers, but the top tier There's a few nhl guys a lot of prospects a lot of guys play college hockey in In canada and the only reason I know this the story is because my daughter's boyfriend who lives with us in the summer Plays on in this beer league. He's a good player. He plays for nipissing university. Uh, name is luke strickland and uh so my daughter's at the game and and And she was the one who texted me and told me but anyway, so they're playing in the quarter finals of beer league And like a normal beer league team, they're out having a beer Uh, you know on somebody's trunk of his of his f-150 having a beer before they go in to play the game And they're playing mcdavid's old buddies have a team in the league and once every couple years mcdavid shows up in plays Right and it's kind of legendary everybody in new market runs to the rink to watch him But he's gonna have been married three days earlier. So nobody expected he would show up So these guys are sitting having their beer going. I wonder if mcdavid's gonna show up Hopefully not, you know And then the suv pulls into the park a lot of the last minute mcdavid gets out and they're like, oh man And then the passenger door opens and dry settle gets out and I like oh my god Oh my god Yeah, and I think that was the first time dry saddle had ever showed up with mcdavid So now they're all gone for a loop But the cooler part of the story their goalie typical beer league Didn't show up couldn't make the game had an emergency So they have a second goalie kid by the name of ben charrette Oh, I think he's at harvard this year and ben was at another rink doing a skate like a power skate So he just got off the ice two hours. He's exhausted and he picks up his phone And has this like slur of text and saying ben We need you man. The other goalie didn't show up. Also. We're playing mcdavid and dry saddle And so ben's like, oh my god, you know, he's like this 18-19 year old kid He's like, I gotta go right I got I'm wanting your life. My you play mcdavid and dry saddle So he burns over to the rink and he says this is so surreal They had to delay the game 15 minutes and he so folks so ben could get ready He's putting on his gear he skates out and there's mcdavid and dry saddle leading the games the boards waiting for ben To start the game. He says the first chef like dry saddle wires went off the bar the hardest shot He's there it hits the roof of the rink and then mcdavid comes down two seconds later goes dipsy doodle scores And ben's like, oh, we're gonna lose like 30 30 nothing But the story is is basically the experience of these guys playing dry saddle mcdavid has a bit of a twist ending that I won't give away here Uh, I gotta give some people reason. Yeah, yeah, but Game goes to overtime and it's uh, you know for a kid like luke You know, it was a really good player, you know might play pro somewhere someday, but not the nhl Like he says like this this might be the greatest night of my life, right? He I got a picture of him There's a picture of him in the book taking a face off against dry saddle with mcdavid on the wing And not only that they're wearing all their oilers gear except for the jersey So it's intimidating is all hell for these kids This has been awesome. We can't thank you enough for your time duff. I was gonna ask you. Yeah, is is there one like When you sat down that was so like sentimental and maybe like was like almost like a sad story that you had to put Yeah, I mean you can't in the book Despite what we've said here today the book's not all pranks. You can't have a book like that and some of them are about amazing games Uh, and you have to have some stories. I think the tug at the heart when I read a book I'm hoping people laugh and then maybe cry on the next page Uh, I think that the the chapter that means the most is a chapter on the gedros and ioyans a bunch for this because When we finally hooked up and he got a new phone I think the day that I was supposed to interview yans was the day after the accident And uh, you know, he texted me that morning. It's like I can't do this and I obviously I totally understood Um, and then when we did talk maybe a month later, I was thinking about and it was just so damn sad And I said to yans. I said, do you think we I could do a chapter? Uh, that was like a beauties type chapter where I got people to tell You know funny stories about johnny and matty, right and stories about who these guys were that uh, You know because I was just it was so hard just watching the ceremony after ceremony and maradeth and madeline and gi and jane out on the ice all The time and there's just so heartbreaking and so, you know and yans told me a great story and I ended up, you know, matthew could chuck I ended up with 21 people either family members or or teammates rasmus anderson and uh Uh boon jenner and and so on and so forth And they all told me these hilarious stories about these two guys and I I kind of wanted it for something when their kids grow up They could read and say oh, this is what kind of what my dad was like He was a pretty hilarious hilarious dude I think johnny was a you know, you guys would know more than me but a really really funny self deprecating Modest guy and matty who nobody knows much about was also a terrific guy So that chapter is you know, I think the heart and soul of the book And then also there's one on on macklin celebreenie and and his father who You know People have heard about his dad and like what he does and you know the connection with the warriors at steve nasher and like what what went into That one did you get to talk to his father because also his little brother? I think is like crushing records in british columbia is going to shattuck next year So it's like we're going to see another one of these celbrinis come the whole family all the kids are super Super athletic both of the parents were were crazy athletic But yeah, I mean I heard I think we did a feature when macklin was on the world junior team world juniors is one of my gigs And you know talking about rick who for people who don't know is like the head I don't know what you call it sports guy for the and it's also mental stuff too. I think it's not just like physical But he you know, he was one of these guys and he hooked up with steve nasher the basketball legend uh when nasher was hurt and They sort of worked together for a couple years and developed, you know rick had these ideas nasher had these ideas and they developed sort of almost a revolutionary way to train and and so macklin in many ways and the other kids were kind of like uh Uh who rick was using this on as he learned it so at five six years old You know ways to lunge ways to have your have your skates pointed a certain way And I think to this day macklin trains different than almost anybody else in the nhl I know he trained with quick quinn Hughes last summer and at the end quinn was like I need you to teach me this I I want to learn this Uh, but it's great. Dremond green is in the piece as well talking about You know macklin would come to the golden state warriors facility and usually every kid that comes by to grab a basketball and try to shoot And macklin just had his like mini stick at seven years old and was off in the corner doing the hockey stuff So it's uh, that's not uh, yeah That's a more serious chapter but a fun chapter just about how this kid You know kind of the perfect storm of having this dad that met steve nasch right when he was born and and macklin with all this God-given ability and how it meshed together to form Who I think is going to be one of the greatest players in the nhl for the next 15 years I ended up training with uh, I think it's his uncle At fratias and like you said like the type how they wanted you moving your body and doing different things I went to him after I had uh bilateral sports hernia surgery And they were telling me like you're sustaining these injuries because you're not moving properly and Obviously, I could it never really registered. I could never figure it out and get over to my old patterns. You guys laugh I can't no no, but I it's very hard. It's so different that you're like I can't I don't got this Basically, you've been doing the same movement for 15 years. It's hard to get out of your out of your hamster wheel Right, but there's a reason why I pull my l5s one every fucking month, right? Max also got the uh, you know the x-factor. I think of being super Confident and competitive I think the story the chapter opens with a story of mac when he's four years old or five years old Hitting wiffleballs Maybe the same uncle's throwing wiffleballs at him in his backyard and burn a bbc And mac is just crushing wiffleball after wiffleball into the neighbor's yard And he says to his uncle he says on some day people are gonna pay to watch me do this And rick wrote it down to this poem because what five-year-old says this stuff? Oh, yeah, that's crazy But uh, he was right just wrong sport my five-year-old eating his boogers and we got mac and celebrate Charging for autographs still are Hey james, I gotta ask because bob mckenzie the bob father He's he's completely retired now you spent so much time with him And I got to go in one time to tsn when I was still in the oilers and I remember it was uh, Vancouver dallas first round and I said oh, I hope this goes to ot and bob goes You shut your mouth right now and I learned quickly as a broadcaster It's like we don't want to be here and the game went to triple overtime and went to ot He blamed me but I didn't know if you had any stories about him Like what an awesome guy and a legend in the game of hockey It's weird not to have him around now breaking news and being in in in the picture as he always was You know, we're we're less than a month away from world juniors and it's going to be my first world juniors without bob who uh I've always said like any credibility that people gave me on the panel is only because bob was probably at the other end of it And I just completely wrote his coat tails the entire time So it's going to be really strange not having him the guy like you guys have no idea What a legend he is he like even when he wasn't trying when he was semi retired there He would break the biggest deals because he's the only guy I think we're like the gms call him Say hey bobby. We made a big deal Uh, you know, I'll tell you the story for the other thing about bobby. He's like ultra competitive, uh, right? He's uh And I think the story I wrote in the first beauties book is bobby got to go they were filming like uh way back in the day They were filming some sort of uh Some sort of tv show tsn with like paul romick and bob mckenzie. It was like a skills show or something So they were both on the ice like hosting the show and I think it was somebody could you know maybe two university teams or juniors competing against each other in a showdown type of thing and uh They they wanted bob to demonstrate The showdown the shootout and they had latislav trecceck there, you know one of the greatest goalies of all time You know past his prime now, but he was in a paid-in appearance to be there and uh, this was just you know bobby was just supposed to go down and take us off muffing at trecceck and You know everybody would clap right But bobby would not have that because he's like this is my one and only chance to score on latislav trecceck bobby was a pretty good hockey player back in the day I got some great old photos of him with it, you know the full mullet and stuff and big tough bobby mac But so bobby's like i'm gonna score on this guy. I don't so what caught him off guard He's deciding what movie he's gonna make he's coming in trecceck comes out at him tries to poke check So bobby's like crap. So bobby does this deke trecceck slides the poke check and trips him and bobby goes flying But last second, you know backhands it into the net so scores But rams into the boards and separates his shoulder And now he's like oh my god you idiot like he's got to do this tv show So he can't let anybody know that he's he's separated to this shoulder And he's just looked like an idiot try try to score this little exhibition against latislav trecceck But that was bobby man. He's uh He's just uh one of my favorite people in the history of the world and uh, he's in a sling for the whole shoot Yeah, no, he just had to you know, he's in bobby's stuff, too I think he just had to go through the whole thing like dangling his Shoulder not letting anybody on that he did it but as far as he scored, you know, he's one for one against trecceck in his life So that's all he's gonna keep doing the because he was still doing some draft stuff too, wasn't he? No, I think you know his his son is a super talented hockey guy is the gm of the kitchen arrangers mike And uh, I think bob's a bit of a shadow gm who you know goes to the games and lurks in the shadows with the coffee But uh, he's a grandfather who loves hanging out with the grandkids and uh, I don't think you'll see much of him because I think he's gonna Know those insiders, you know, whether it's dregs or lebron christ johnson elliot all these such a great job That's a man. They're brutal. They're phones always brutal and I so I think when you're done with it You want you want to be done forever? Yeah, and back in the day too like you had to do phone calls Like elliot we talked we asked about a screen time like obviously they're all texting nowadays I can't even imagine back in the day where you had to constantly just be on the phone all day long talking so Yeah, it's it's long hard hours Was there any one that we any story that we didn't ask you about that you really wanted to share because we've Obviously taken a lot of your time. Well, I don't want to give away too much of the book I did mention I did tease the ryan whitney thing. So my book was basically done um And you know what I was going to book in with kachucks matthew told me some great stories about not the panthers team that won the cop but the one the year before uh, and how He felt that team was like the biggest group of beauties ever and he felt it really laid the foundation and some prank stories In there. So I was going to book in the book with brady kachucks story at the beginning matthew at the end But right as I was finished the book I was doing the masters Sorry, I know when I always rub that in the best part of your job And I get to work with graham de lett at the masters great canadian golfer awesome saskey boy And de lett's like I was telling de lett about the book and he's like you got to talk to ray whitney And I'm like, yeah, the book's kind of done like now you got to talk to ray whitney So I'll tell this one So ray Ray ray, I know you had lad on on earlier. He's probably on this team. So they win the cop in 06 I think it's the next year 07 They're playing a game What does the hl restart boxing day or the 27th usually right so they're playing a game boxing day. I think it's boxing day that year So ray's grandma Has this unbelievable recipe for cabbage roll Like is like the tastiest thing in the world. So that's the tradition at the whitney house is to eat these cabbage rolls So ray says christmas day. He eats a dozen of these cabbage rolls And anybody who knows what cabbage does to a body. That's a dangerous thing to do Boxing day goes to the morning skate. They're playing at home Comes home breaks with what his normal meal is and eats like eight more cabbage rolls because he can't stop himself So he's getting to the ring getting dressed the stomach's starting to growl He's on these in the opening lineup And you know, they got a little kid out next to them for the anthems like a lot of teams do for the anthem And he said he can feel this thing building in his stomach and like moving down towards and he's like, oh my god Like I got a fart I I got it and I feel bad for this kid because I know it's going to be a big one But I can't stop it anymore. So it's like in the home And he he lets it go And he had no control and it is a full on dump the entire the entire load explosion non-stopping worst ever Disgusting into his compression shorts down his compression straight liquid the worst ever Oh, just a cabbage dump and I'm sorry. Sorry to the listeners if anybody's eating early dinner, but uh So these cabbage rolls have just exploded all over his pans and he says usually he does You know quick lap does the water thing. Yeah, he said he just glides to scent glides to a spot because you can't go off No, you're opening the lineup. No, it's family So he just spreads his legs and glides to the people to the dot So brindlemore wins the phase off as always dumps it in he goes in he just says he's skating I can't do this on he just skating completely Wide legged tried to stop this stuff from oozing down to his socks And he says he does like one little whack at the puck right back to the bench right down the tunnel does Signals to the trainers. They all think he's pulled his groin because he has groin issues Goes right into like the handicap washroom And it's like I need all new gear. I need a plastic bag I need everything and I need a shower turn on whatever full right now. No, like you okay? He's like, yeah, I'm okay I just dumped my entire bought contents of my body into the thing and so Uh The the chapter has a little more detail than that, but I think he missed eight minutes Oh that and he comes back on the bed back behind the bench and lavies like Lavi says to him Like just joking. What'd you shit your pants? And he hit wit says he just looks up at lavie goes. You have no freaking idea So I don't know if that was the warmest way to end the book, but I just thought it was uh, oh, it was warm It was warm hot steam and yeah Um, we're gonna pull up the book one more time just for our viewers to be able to see what to look for There it is right there and the first one. It's it's awesome that these are this was a great idea, man Yeah, thank you. Thank you. Uh, well, like I said, I owe you guys a lot You told me some awesome stories and like I said when I was writing the first book was just when you guys were starting to blow up And it was sort of validation for me like you guys kind of made hockey stories Cool again. I think you made players comfortable telling them because a lot of these stories You know, I'm not sure guys would feel comfortable But I think you made people comfortable telling great hockey stories And there's about 80 of them in this book which are just uh stuff like we told today So it's good bathroom reading you can read one toss it aside pick it up in two weeks later Oh, it's an honor to get you on buddy And I think it's just gonna spark more and you'll end up having three four or five books down the road Right, I don't know if that's up you you want to sign up for but uh, no I mean if people like them, I'll keep there's an I think there's an unlimited supply of them, right? Uh, so yeah, I guess I can have that theme somewhere along the way of uh, I don't know. Maybe I'll do one on hall just hall of famers or something But it's uh, yeah, it's it's fun It's a treat for me because I get to hear these guys tell the stories and like I said when you're on the other end of the line Or you're sitting in a bar listen to a guy tell a story You know you can imagine in your head what it's gonna read like in the book is pretty cool. It's awesome James. Thank you so much, man We appreciate it I really really appreciate it and keep doing what you do. Love listening. All right. We'll see you Doff even Thank you. What a shirt And we got snoop snoop on what is it snoop on a show? It's not help finish you about a stoop. Wait. I don't know if you saw it while you were reading the noble I didn't I was reading biz biz took off his pants and it was In his ginsh showing the tag of his sweatpants like a a true a true No, they're noble sweat are the pants are the pants as comfy as the shoes Oh, yeah Those are unbelievable. I think that uh, I think that uh, what's his name there? Demo god, I think he's gonna hang up the new balance ones and go noble instead. Yeah, we have to make it happen noble The best thing about him is when you fart it keeps them in there like you know, sometimes they seep out You can smell the stinky fart the nobles they trap the fart in there. I think you want them to seep out No, it is no and by a time it's you just want to like Like eight hours later take take them off to shower No, the quality cotton and fiber in the cotton it makes the fart smell like pulporee hours later It's incredible. That's we gotta get that in the ad read. I'm telling you that is And Cabbage rolls it actually remakes them into new cabbage rolls in the cotton Yeah, hey imagine imagine having one cabbage roll never mind 12 like that is nothing that's worse Did 20 in about 20 hours. Are they good biz? Is it a canadian thing? Oh, well it depends who's making them, but yeah, they're pretty good. They're good I mean you ate the ocean cabbage. So i'm pretty sure you'd eat ray whitney's grandma's cabbage. That's true. That's you know Is that a is it a is is it a polish dish? Cabbage roll sounds it Oh It's not something i'm dying to try What are the orange it what are the or origins of of the cabbage roll like who Who did those first people who do colonoscopy exams created them and then they're just like you don't need to do this You're just straight up have a bunch of cabbage rolls. You're peeing out of your bum Yeah, yeah, middle of the game Hey for or frames, you know who was a guy who could use an or a frame for the pictures He looked at got all emotional brendon dillon. I don't know if you saw this guy's about to play his thousandth game I mean Kind of a crazy couple clicks couple clicks keith You're one of those guys of the thousand you guys are special because they're very special to get a thousand me and biz didn't even do it combined but thousand kills i don't I don't have that either. So i don't know where i'm sitting in this game, but um Can we roll the video quick? He was showing a picture of himself as a very little kid being held up by his dad And he's coming up on a thousand games. All he wanted to do was play one game in the nhl And One game She's crying i'm just happy excited to be crying So thankful to Yeah, playing the best league in the world and From every coach i've had to play with a teammate. It's uh It's been awesome. What a guy dude. What a faggling guy. How many guys how many how many undrafted guys have played a thousand? I you have the number you have the number i'd say four no no no no no no I'd say like 25 Biz four he he will be the fourth he will be the fourth The other three I don't know my ass. They're cabbage roll. I didn't know that that was the number dude unreal cabbage poll I you want to guess you they are let's now let's guess on the number or let's guess the guy's wit Um, brennan, let's play 25 of the guys you played with one of them Bizz or me. I think both the or maybe you guys were at training camp with them special cat in pittsburgh A lot of funny stories about him loves his beers scuderi No scud was drafted to howl gill No, he was older. They both load their beers. Yep. Who? I load a line. Wow. He was not drafted first one bc boston college legend i believe could score some i bc legend undrafted thousand games i think he's from hell's kitchen Joey mollin joey mollin. Yeah, wow we had him on the third one biz you should know or the second one whoever did it legend of the game Wayne gretsky no cizarelli Wayne gretsky Do you know cizarelli? Yeah, I guess he was never drafted to the nhl. No, you're right I can't believe there's only four. I just you hear about so many undrafted guys who end up making it I just figured there'd be a lot more stay heartway Wow, that's incredible Brendan dillon though look undrafted in 08 undrafted again in 0 9 They got this the tweet was sent over by g but like I mean Plays in the world championship gets to a cup final and I gotta mention that jersey that devil's hat he had on is pretty sick That's a pretty healthy hate pasha, but pretty sick game 200 points made a bunch of money. Look at that. So four times 3.9 That's just under 16 three times four 12. So he's made, you know 30 million bucks. Oh no, there's a five times 3.7 He's made made 40 45 million. What a story, you know what the biggest disgrace of this list though He's not listed as being in biz does bc which he was Maybe he has that not included in the list. No, he didn't he was a star I was shocked that he didn't go into acting after that as opposed to making another 40 sheets playing hockey He is a nail gun too though Yeah in terms of like being undrafted making it's one thing then playing a thousand one thing But playing as physical as he has which all those guys right like lia lona line was a beast He got a thousand dino cistern really was a maniac. He had 600 goals Brendan Dillon and have we ever gotten dino cistern really on the pod? I feel like we did episode 404 Yeah, I knew we had dino on I didn't remember if we had tov simpson on or not Joe mullen was kind of when americans weren't getting drafted right was he during that era? I think it was I mean that there was there was legit american bias for a long time There's even still some coaches to this day who don't like americans. I'm convinced of it You probably could prove me wrong pretty easily, but Um granale's saying didn't mark g. Ordon will play a thousand games, but was undrafted Is this list fugazi? Is there actually 25 guys? It could be I don't know. I just google that I'm not great with the internet wait. It's a yans fucked up Well, let's see mark g or donno Undrafted 1148 case. I think there's probably 25 guys There might be 50 was st louis drafted. I don't think he was Yeah, did you just fuck up that's well, I St louis another one. I I bet you I was closer 20 How many guys I don't know Or here on what site like a russian site, you know when you google you google it and the ai thing pops up I don't know. I'm not gonna. AI is a Uh uh a farce unless it's in a sandbagger then it's the best. Yeah Yeah, all right. Hey hand up. I fudged up my bad. Shout out joey moen dino cissarelli Steve Duchenne like I think we got I think we got I think there's 25 Joe moen was drafted first overall if you guessed four on the fake list and was right and it turns out to be 25 That's gonna be an all-time moment for no counts counts Um Hey guys players players fuck up So we have to talk maybe a little bit more hockey I want to get your guys opinion on this lane kiffin and an ncaa football bullshit. But before we do that, uh What more hockey chatter do we have? Well on the list here we had that the injuries are just kind of a disaster. I mentioned all stahl We talked about it logan cooly. Thank god. I don't think it's as bad as it looked not quad conclusion Yeah, that looks like that's the only line that's been scoring for them him and dump there have been unbelievable lately But they've dried up. I think they've lost like They've they've lost like basically I think it's like eight of the last 10 or something like that their goal 10ings been shaky hot and cold and then Obviously one thing that we haven't talked about is the clayton keller his father passing dad is just guys Oh, he they were so close Like what a guy such a supportive father played And the fact that kells goes on to play those two games after dealing with that after thanksgiving Like that just speaks it goes back to the the hockey guys and and how strong they are mentally and physically and Um, he played in that game in dallas Don't know how he did it and then it just so happens that the back to back the second game was in st Louis where he's from where his grandfather and his father used to take him to games They had season tickets behind the the net. He used to sit on his father's lap at the games and Yeah, when he said that dude, that was hard. That was hard his his entire Media session there was was really really difficult to watch. You just feel so gutted for him So his dad was young talking talking to somebody too that played with him growing up Like he said his grandfather and his dad were at every single tournament You know, we all know how it is sometimes your dad has to work and can't make a tournament You go with another family But they said he was at every single tournament just rooting for just happy for his kid just watching him out on the ice and Like the courage that it took uh, clayton to play in those games, man I couldn't imagine and you know, obviously our thoughts and prayers are with the with the with the keller family and um, you know, it just shows that I would imagine his dad would have said to him. I want you to play in this game in my honor in these games in my honor I know you're gonna have a heavy heart, but absolute gutty gutty effort by him just for you and lacing up his skates and playing just a True a true, uh, true teammate and and legend Yeah, and the blues did a great job of there was a big moment of silence before the game and Yeah, it's just it was so sudden too. That's just like all of a sudden boom and you just feel so sorry for him. Um Just a brutal story that came out over the weekend. I'm glad you brought that up as that was uh That was that was just horrible to see horrible. Um, kind of tough to go anywhere from there We're thinking of the entire keller family. Um Did you guys see uh, granelli had it down here? I didn't even know this Mcdavid and matthews are now using power sticks. Yeah, they swapped Is that like don't they both get paid bank from ccm not enough to not switch if they ain't working I know I guess like yeah, I don't care. Yeah, take my money away I mean for for mcgavid. He's still wearing all the gear So that's like the one thing you notice the most that pops the most so maybe they just take back a little bit of dough but I don't know I uh, maybe sometimes sometimes companies in in like, uh, Certain sticks they go through bad batches, right? I mean you guys would know more I use the fucking shovel so I'll throw it over to you. Well one time I got in the middle of my best season Warriors like hey, we'll give you 10 grand or whatever to use our sticks I was like, okay and then Got a legit tap in like The goalie was 15 feet away. I'm telling you it was Any person watching this show or listening would have scored and I missed the net And it was with the warrior and I was like, oh my god. I just fired the thing like we got in the locker room I think I snapped it actually and then right back that was one. I was like, what was I thinking? Like why am I ever considering switching anything right now? Those guys are on a different level Malcolm at times. I think has had two different companies gloves on like I don't want to be guys that Yeah, I know All right, but so mcgavid used to stick what just for one game and I believe it was only two and a half periods He did score with the stick though Matthews on the other hand last year He started wearing the bower skates now. He is full bower gear So I feel like that's something more to keep an eye on Because I remember he had the ccm old school modano skates on the comeback But that was just quick. But when he first came into the league He was like the face of bow or Austin Matthews like he was all bower for the first three four years He was in the league then notoriously switched over to ccm Well, I mean the the other night he kind of had one of this one of his patented like pull and release one goals against Pittsburgh Yeah, one and one. So if if they have any chance of getting on a run here, they got to get him going Yeah, he's got to get a synergy in his hand I can't believe there aren't synergies anymore. It's probably the thing that makes me feel The oldest and like so out of this this game is that like There's kids now like awesome 12 year old players that don't even know what a synergy was that that makes me sick The sharks also went no buckets for warms, which I believe you get fine for that. Did you um, What mckinnon switch into for twigs? The north land gretsky if he comes back with like a cabin north land gretsky guaranteed No, or it'll be that it'll be the east and silver gretsky Oh Mckinnon's the pink whitney state the pink whitney stick if we could get one guy to have one shift That's like my Brendan dillon. I wanted to play one game. I just want a pink whitney stick in one shift of an nhl game That thing who would you want it? Who would you want to use it? Who the pink whitney stick? Yeah If I could pick one guy demo demo dove Oh, give him a track suit to demo dove. Yeah pink whitney track suit and then he tapes up the stick and then he snipes Um That's a great question. He has to be undrafted. He has to be undrafted He's going through the bottom six on the main plates right now. No, I was gonna Joshua Roy, I was gonna say a voracek was still playing. I would have picked voracek He would have had like a shot. He would have had like one of the the nips in the stick Well, what would he would have done was filled the stick up with pink whitney on the inside and there would be an And like this thing and when he scored he would just take it off like that and go That's that's the celebration Um, we should we should see if anyone's down to use a pink whitney stick You have to pay you have to pay the league to have your I think we got a better chance at the gary for for undrafted guys who I think I've done gary enough favors You'll let the pink whitney twig slide. Yeah, I'm sure send them a meme or yes, send them one of your favorite What are those called? What do you send people you and gary send each emojis? Make an emoji making a pink whitney emoji. Just send it to gary Should I send him a picture right now this stick and say hey, would you care if one guy at a time use this? I'm gonna text no no save the text that will yeah We might need a big favor at some point. We might need a big favor at some point That that could just knock knock us down a couple pegs it We'd be going right back to the time when posh was in center field on the green next to the green monster at fenway Roman around during the outdoor classic with security pointing rifles at him like that's when we got we got a big Ppwak as a podcast we got all our credentials taken away because because posh just snuck down there to Get a one-on-one with posh that he's about to hit the ice and then memes fucking posted it So so what you're saying is gary is essentially our hockey genie Remember we did the hockey genie segment. So you're saying save the wishes. Yeah. Yeah, gary's our guy gary's what would be What would be like like one thing that you would ask gary to do if you could ask him to do it about the league right now If you score in the power plate shouldn't end That used to be a rule really really? Yes. That used to be a rule in the NHL want to bet In like I believe you 60s 50s the Montreal canadiens ruin that rule for everyone They'd get like four they'd get like three four goals every time. So they they change it where yeah That's a little fun fact for everyone. We can actually clip this so people don't realize You know who taught me that too was wane obviously wane gratsky knew that But when you used to get a two-minute minor you have to used to have to serve the whole two minutes And imagine how many more points he would have had he must have been so mad when they took that rule out I don't think that it even existed while wane was in the league right right. I know but he was probably 13 Like oh my god, I could have had a thousand more points Yeah, um Also kind of fucks with the records record books a little bit too Um for guys who who are up there who used to play in that era Um, what other what rule would you I mean? That's a a rule. What other thing would you like to change with? It could be more of like a broader. It could be off the ice Well, I I I would say that next time we go to the Olympics, which I believe is four years from this February Let's make sure that the rink's been built because apparently like This rink is might be getting finished like before puck drop of the first game And it's also four feet shorter than it's supposed to be so for for yeah, it's it's it's it's legit a comedy show right now I think there's like 5 000 italians that are over there just working overnight every every single day. They know that he ain't their fuck could take it four hours Espresso breaks They don't give a fuck They're like you guys could play ball hockey I feel like every Olympics has this though, whether they're like all the uh, you know the the dorms aren't ready or the every time they've had an Olympics I believe that they've had a tester game at least one year out before the Olympic games What yeah, they had they we were a tester for the 2002 salt lake city games Which was the second one with the best on best after 98 in japan. We played Uh an under 18 five nations tournament there really and it was actually put we played a bit uh Covelthru and I was like what the fuck who who is this? What is this thing and that that was basically their warm-up for the next winter? And now this rink is like right now. They're putting like the boards in You know and then they got it they got to find them. They got to find the nets Now granale says the test run is scheduled for january 9th, which is less than a month before the games I don't know biz. I Are you peeing right now biz? I had to hose. I got the wide nozzle body armor though. That's the reason I like you need the wide nozzle one Buddy we could give you a squirt one a can It's a squirt bottle. Yeah, I just said that Oh, you did? Yeah Hey, how about this? I forgot to mention with padard in four points Players age 20 or younger an nhl history with four four points or more in a game padard now has five How many did gretzky had? 100 It's 40. Yeah I mean a hundred would have been Basically every other game or more no like two thirds of the game, but still that that didn't go over as I planned Um, all right, you guys got anything else. I want to talk about this lane kiffin nonsense. Oh, yeah I want to get your opinion on do you know like you Do you know like college football? You've been hearing how ridiculous like the buyouts for these coaches are What do you mean the buyouts? Like when these guys like ls you have the money that they get Yes, yes, so right now lsu They're paying ed orz Ozaran eddy. Oh on the national title there with um burrow the paying him 17 million Brian kelly the coach they fired this year gets 54 million And then lane kiffin just signed for 91 million dollars for how many years doesn't know Anyone doesn't know college football. I don't really know What this 91 for how many years seven? Oh seven How much was old miss willing to pay him Same I think it was the same now lsu's giving him 25 million a year on their roster I don't maybe i'm wrong. I don't think old miss was going to be able to do that but this guy everywhere he goes leaves with A complete inferno raging behind him where he just was hey, but Honestly the way that like the players transfer now and everybody leaves. I don't fucking mind it. It's like No, like I I get it and lsu. I I think I don't I'm not I mean I like George. I'm not by no means an expert I'm not even an expert on hockey let alone college football lsu is like a bigger program Yeah, I I you know I get that it was how he did it piss have you heard like what ended up happening? So he knew he was going to go But they had a game against mississippi state. It's called the egg bowl and and old miss has one loss They're going to the playoffs for the first time in the in their first. Yeah, it was history three times They had over 10 wins In in in the in the last three years and then their first 11 wins season this year Ever in the history of the park turned it around. Yeah, so he's earned 100 percent. So he uh He tells them like I want to keep coaching the team like i'm gone But I want to keep coaching the team For anyone out there like yeah, I let him coach the team. That is one of the craziest things I think I've ever heard like buddy get the fuck out of here He then went on and said okay. Well, if you don't let me coach the team I'm taking all the coaches with me I'm going to get a bunch of the players to come with me which he still ended up doing I think he took like most of the offensive coaches and he told the coaches biz If you're not on the plane with me, you ain't got a job at lsu. So it's like leave now Which completely hoses the team like the team's getting ready. They I mean, I think they got the sec title game Has it wait time out though, but I believe that Coaches who have said that they're going to go to a different program have Finished coaching the team till the end. Correct I feel like in this instance though, they're probably like man, we've just paid you all this money We've had all this success together. You've dragged this out to to now knowing that you were going to end up leaving And and having all this money to spend on a roster and blah blah blah and probably taking some of our guys So they're saying fucking fuck you on the way out That is well, it's a rival. It's the same thing. I know there is a coach that's going to be coaching He took the florida job. I don't know the guy's name and he's going to continue coaching at Tulane, I believe But this one I think the threatening to the to the Administration and the ad probably didn't go out pat summer all g says the guy's name is but and then so since then There's a rumor that so his his his dog juice kiffin has a twitter feed People are saying it's not even his dog that the It's a feed didn't bring the dog with him. He left the dog Ole miss took all his clothes out of his office. They put him on the street There was a group of people had to be 200 people mother fucking them as he's walking from his Escalade to his private jet to go to lsu Then they don't know what coaches are following them But the coaches had to show up at the airport with him if they wanted a job So fans are finding out who's leaving Live as they're getting out of the car. They're like this is one of them. Oh, that's charlie. Fuck you charlie. Fuck you They're like this getting on the plane Um, I'll just say this like college football is turning into a joke like really all college sports, but You just got to go back to the coaches. It's That it all starts with them And I think his boy, uh, who's the one that won all the the one championships with alabama Sabin Sabin was kind of defending him on national tv where it's like you want to talk about the integrity and these players and what they get to learn at a free education and and These transfer portals and paying them and nio money has ruined the game. Shut the fuck up, dude Nick Sabin's got over 100 million made in his fucking career Getting to fucking use all this booster money to fucking recruit all the top end talent So he can have all these championships and money. Give me a fucking break Am I taking anything away from his football knowledge or or what he's accomplished as a coach? Absolutely not. But you're a fucking hypocrite if you think that That nio money and transfer portals ruin college football. You're fucking greedy asses coaching wise did that's it You set the precedent like The coaches have been leaving forever. Yeah, what the coaches have been just taken off forever forever and knowing and and But the one thing I just don't understand and they keep saying oh it has to do with the recruiting process the recruiting process Where it's like Man the college football playoffs is over by the middle of january Right, maybe maybe the end of january now because it's 12 teams Why do these guys in in players have to make a decision by then? Why don't they just finish out their fucking seasons and then they announce everything? I think their timing is completely fucked up. Actually. I saw patino had a tweet basically like Why don't they change because I think signing day is in a week. So you got to get there for signing day now Fucking stupid because they have the I get that they have the spring games and everything like that And they got to get some of them they get in there and they get training early But buddy just announced everything february 1st Everything's a clean slate started so now But they you know at all they love all this drama. Oh, it is I was following yesterday I was like this is it was it was a great day on twitter It was just and then the old miss fans who loved this guy now. He is enemy number one There's like burner accounts putting up text messages and snapchats and dms from him to girls There's all this madness going on rumors of flying around about the guy and then meanwhile No, he's not then meanwhile. He gets to lsu, but then he's a god there He's the god so that fan base loves him But they'll end up despising him because they'll probably fucking ruin that place at some point and then also What what did you just almost take a sip of your pee? No, no, I got a new I got a different bottle. Oh, you went like that and put it away. Oh, god His pee could be that clear with how much how high oh Well, I had I had a few coffees this morning. Hey wit I know I said it to you yesterday in text Well, like why isn't john gruden just walking himself down the old miss and be like i'll take the jaw I got it from here boys. I was wondering why nobody wants. I don't I feel like gruden's gonna get something big here soon Yeah, right there rick patino saying like basically Basketball like it doesn't have to be this way when coaches leave you get to finish the season at least Now 3.4 kiffin the ways kiffin has been fired though biz it's incredible Like at alabama he was the offensive coordinator Savin fired him a week before the national championship game saying he was under he wasn't prepared for the Semifinal then he went to fAU. He was the raiders coach al davis the legendary owner fired him said I did not hire the man I thought I hired basically calling these guys a snake and a liar. He called him a professional liar He got dragged off the team bus and then fired on the tarmac from usc And and here's the thing Lsu you got to know what you're hiring at some point This guy's gonna leave you for something better and something bigger Although maybe at this point he will have burned every bridge possible Yeah, the the weird thing when that guy who gave the example of like you can't turn a hole into a housewife I thought it was an incredible example He was right the fact that he got that mad and like went up to the guy and did that I was like this guy's whack I didn't know any of this other stuff that you just said like I knew he was with sabon at one point uh now Lsu's had some tough hires they hired that brian kelly thinking he was some offensive genius that obviously never worked out You said they're paying him 50 million dollars 54 54. Did they just fire him? Yeah, they fired him this year and lane kiffin the 91 million dollar deal his bio it's 80 percent of whatever's left I Called a college football I it's straight up free agency every single year with no contracts. It's it's actually like it's actually a dream scenario for the athletes You can just leave every year in football Oh, I know Yo, I I yeah, it is a dream scenario for the athletes, but I think that in the last five years like it's College football.
