Summary

Sheena Walker presents an MBA-level business education alternative focused on performance-driven learning for executives and leaders. The episode covers key executive competencies including high-ticket offerings, leadership design, decision-making under pressure, personal branding, and strategic thinking—delivered through real-time application rather than traditional academic theory.

Insights
  • MBA-level skills are increasingly performance-based rather than theory-heavy, requiring immediate application and real-time correction rather than delayed implementation
  • Personal branding and authority positioning are critical executive competencies that many leaders overlook, with a clear 10-word brand statement driving client acquisition and influence
  • Leadership capability gaps create a 'danger zone' in business where executives operate reactively; intentional design and shaping of leadership approach is essential for sustainable high performance
  • Executives must evolve from managing people to designing high-performing teams and culture, requiring deliberate skill set upgrades at each career transition
  • Strategic decision-making under pressure in volatile economic conditions (tariffs, hospitality changes, workforce dynamics) is a core differentiator for elite leaders

Where are you leaking money? Where could you be investing more to become commercially aware? And I find that this is one area that people will probe me a little bit more. Tell me a little bit more Sheena about understanding my profit. So it might be one area that I've been working with people on. This is just one area is do you have what I call a high ticket offer, a high ticket service? Something that perhaps you personally or someone in your team has been trained and engaged for a decade in learning about and you're sharing that with your clients. That might be a high ticket offer and a high ticket offer means that you have someone with an area of expertise, you have a signature system, you're consistent in delivering results. A very, very key way to think. And when you start thinking about performance, let me take you to the next one which is are you a leader? Do people see you as a leader? Do people see you as they go to person? Do they see you as they go to company? Sometimes when you've been in a role as a manager, and then you step up to a regional manager and then perhaps a director on the board, you skill set and how you think has changed dramatically. What I've noticed is that sometimes the people, you maybe can recognise this, they don't change their skill set, they operate at the same level all the time. So you have to as a chief exec and thinking like in an MBA programme, you've got to move from managing people to designing high-performing teams and culture. You've got to step up yourself personally, then you've got to ask your team to step up, but you need to have the steps to clearly do that. Have you designed your own leadership recently? Perhaps you've never thought about it. I spend time helping people to sometimes just get started, shape what their plan could look like. Maybe you want to just have a two-hour slot that you can shape a plan and then work on it and then you can come back to me or maybe you want to shape your strategic MBA direction with my help not so much do it yourself but done with you. One of the next areas which I find that not just people at high level but people in the business world sometimes find it's very difficult to make decisions when you're under pressure and more recently we've had lots of changes in our dynamic economy, changes in hospitality, changes in how people work, changes in tariffs across the globe. What you need to be able to do is to have the expertise to summarise what's happening and ask yourself does this affect my company? If you're an elite leader you will make calm intelligent decisions in high stake environment that's powerful isn't it? Make intelligent decisions in high stake environment. When you make better decisions that's you starting to think about your MBA skills. Your MBA skills instead of being costly and time heavy start to become performance driven. The next one I just love this next one because it's something that I find is usually a note in the company. It's your personal brand an authority. If I asked you today do you have a personal brand? Many people say no Sheena, I don't have a personal brand. Can I tell you if you are the executive, the regional manager or even the manager and I ask you what is your personal brand? You need to be able to tell me in 10 words what your brand is. Nike is just do it. Just buy our products. Apple used to have one which I loved. Buy a Mac and don't look back. Tell me what is your personal brand and these are things that I can help you with. What that really really means is you become slightly famous in your field and that one line people start to remember it. Oh and my book is say yes and someone said to me here oh you've just written a book called say yes tell me a little bit more and I hadn't ever had anybody say to me they put me against my book right now because it's a fairly new release but I used to always say first be the best and then and then be first. Now that came from my dad telling me every single day before I went to school you're a lovely girl Sheena always keep being the best and I think that has that affected me yes because I never doubted anything I did. So let's get a tagline now if you're looking to have one get in touch with me let's have a conversation where I can help you to be a different type of class you see becoming slightly famous in your field and people remembering your name opens up opportunities it gets you new clients and you become more influential and people will gravitate towards you naturally people say to me now oh I know who you are what a great feeling that is what if you started a new approach that works so much better than traditional learning don't work in the old world put that in past because now we need to have performance based learning not just academic I would like to share with you what I believe doing an MBA a Sheena MBA program will actually help you to learn while you're leading is that new leader as you're developing presentation skills while growing your organization you see what happens when you start to position yourself being performance based you think differently you speak differently and the words that commands the room is very very different what you're doing is creating immediate application immediate correction and immediate refinement not taking 10 years of theories and thinking yourself which is what many people do they think I'll try that trial and error I'll do that I'll do that imagine having someone like me that in less than a day can help you put a plan together for you personally and professionally real time executive evolution if I simplify that to my words too it's becoming a class act would you not like to be a class act where you had presence and eloquence when you spoke I believe the results you can get following this type of program this model is you're going to become so sharp in your strategic direction you wonder how did I ever manage before that will lead you to having stronger boardroom presence imagine walking into the boardroom pausing for a few seconds and people waiting for your next word your next direction which is really leading and increasing your authority and positioning with your team after all your team are the people that will deliver commercial success they will develop your brand they will lead you into that futurist economy right now I'm hoping you're thinking wow with what she has shared today I can make better decisions better quality decisions decisions but more importantly move out of what I call the danger zone in business if I had a pound for every person I speak to initially that's in the danger zone it's a shame because they didn't know there was another way but being in the danger zone is having these gaps in the areas that I've shared with you being reactive at every part of leadership and more intentional what if you were designed and shaped differently can you imagine can you imagine being shaped and designed differently you see a return on investment investing in yourself you start to talk like an executive and return on investment isn't just knowledge it's faster growth decisions stronger market positioning increased revenue and confidence elevated leadership and becoming a sustainable high performer instead of spending years trying to significantly invest in your business you're going to gain executive level capability quickly this is strategic return on investment investment this is intelligent investment so the question you need to ask yourself now do I need an MBA the real question is do I have the MBA level skills required to lead at world class level because in today's performance economy the CEOs who win are not just qualified they are incomparable this is Sheena at designing your performance reminding you to lead perform and design your success like a true corporate athlete at the top of your game want to get in touch with me you can contact me on sheena at sheenewalker.com or you can call me on 07588 645702 look forward to speaking to you soon continuing in our MBA shaping program
