Summary

Game Scoop hosts Damon Hatfield, Nick Lamone, and Justin Davis play their annual 100 Questions Challenge, a guessing game where they identify five video games in 100 total questions. They successfully identify all five games (Shadow of the Colossus, Burnout Paradise, Vectorman, Typing of the Dead, and Donkey Kong Country Returns) in just 70 questions, discussing gaming trends and nostalgia throughout.

Insights
  • Classic arcade and early 2000s games remain culturally significant and recognizable to gaming professionals, even with limited clues
  • Burnout Paradise's arcade racing mechanics and crash mode represent a game design philosophy that has largely disappeared from modern racing franchises
  • Nintendo's strategy of porting Wii U and older titles to Switch extends the commercial lifecycle of games by years, sometimes releasing them near console end-of-life
  • Story-driven narrative experiences like Dispatch are competing successfully with prestige television and film in terms of storytelling quality
  • Baldur's Gate 3's success has reignited interest in D&D source material and worldbuilding among casual gaming audiences

Idol money lies in your current account picking crumbs out of its belly button wondering, should I eat them? But when you start investing with Monzo, your money's always busy. It turns on regular investments, invests your spare change and tops up your stocks and shares ICER. It even helps you make sense of risk and return. Monzo, the bank that gets your money moving. You could get back less than you invest. Monzo current account required UK residents 18 plus T's and C's apply. What's up everybody? Welcome to a very special edition of IGN Gamescope. Sort of a yearly tradition this has become. This is our yearly 100 questions challenge that we always do the week of Thanksgiving. I'm your host, Damon Hatfield. Joining me here in studio is Nick Lamone. I'm back baby. And Justin Davis is here as well. Let's go. We've got a small crew, only two of you. Only two of you. That's a challenge today. A little nervous. It's a lot of questions. It's like you made a whole Thanksgiving feast and then there's only two people to eat it all. Oh, it's so sad. I hope you guys. I got room though. My tummy's rumbling and I'm hungry. Sam is in Tokyo. Mark got sick. Per is not here. I reached out to Seth Macy. He's on vacation already. There's just kind of a skeleton crew right here on the Tuesday of the week of Thanksgiving and obviously we have Thursday and Friday off but then even tomorrow Wednesday. Not a lot of. I don't know what you're talking about. I'm going to be working 24 seven for the next 24 hours. But you should pour one out and keep your local commerce editors in your thoughts and prayers. The commerce editors are ramping up. Absolutely working this week for sure. Look those affiliate links y'all. So 100 questions. What's that? We get 50 questions a piece. Yeah. Let's look at it that way. Sure. 100 questions. Everyone knows 20 questions. This is that times five. I've picked five games. Five games are suggested by Scoop Nation. 100 questions total. Nick, have you done this version of the game before? Yeah, I've done this before. I think once. Okay. Yeah. So for everyone out there listening and watching, they have 100 questions total. That means if they guess a game in fewer than 20 questions, they've banked extra questions and they can end up asking 30 questions on one game if that's all it takes you. So 100 questions total. And you always have the option to, if you're just, if you're burning questions and you're not getting anywhere close to it, you have the option to just skip. Skip it, move on to the next game. Maybe there'll be time to revisit that one at the end. It's up to you guys. 100 questions and what's that? The loophole will just skip all five and then we can just all knock off early and go get to the end. There's that too. Short episode this week. If you get all five, you will win a great feeling of satisfaction. Ooh. Yeah. For any banked questions that we have left at the end, then we get to ask Damon questions and then he has to tell the truth no matter what they are. Oh yeah. Okay. So banked questions go into truth or dare. Yeah. They become truth or dare. Okay. It's only fair. Well, let's kick things off then. Our first one, first game, comes from Mark in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Okay. Mark from Winston Salem, North Carolina. He has a little anecdote that I'll share after the game is revealed. So with that, let the questioning begin. We don't get the pre-question anecdote. It's spoilery. Okay. Okay. Okay. Before, this is not one of my 100 questions. Okay. Based off the five games, Damon, do you think we'll win? Yes. I really think you will have nobody to blame. There's one in here. Okay. Four out of five, I think are. Okay. And one of them's just a little bit, you know, I think we've talked about every game on this list at some point on GameScoop. Cool. Got it. Got it. Okay. Understood. Don't tell us which one is like borderline hard mode. I won't. I won't. I'll figure it out. Okay. Did this game come out in the 70s, 80s, or 90s? No. Is this game made in Japan? Yes. Japanese modern. Is this game modern? Is this game exclusive to a console when it first came out? Yes. Is this game on Nintendo consoles? Nope. Is it exclusive to the, to a PlayStation console? Yes. That is five. 95 questions to go. I don't like it. I don't like it. I don't like it. I don't like it. I don't like it. I don't like it. I don't like it. You know what, is this on the PlayStation 4? Well, a version of this is on PlayStation 4. Okay. So that means maybe it's like through PlayStation Now or something. I think it's Metal Gear Solid 4. Okay. Is this a Konami? Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Yeah. I don't know if I actually, was that game on Xbox? I don't even know. No. Metal Gear Solid 4 was not, never. But it is ported on the, correct. And actually it's not been ported to anything. So it's only on the PS3. Metal Gear Solid 4 specifically. On the PS3 or PS4? It's only on the PS3. It's never been ported to anything else. So that one actually would not apply. Well, maybe it's Metal Gear Solid 5. Thank you for saving me for myself. Full disclosure, that's when I set 4 and meant 5. Got you. But wasn't, I don't, okay. Anyway, we can get off this topic. Was this game developed or published by Sony? Yes. All right. Well, that's that. PS3, maybe PS4 exclusive, developed or published by Sony, made in Japan. I don't know. Shadow of the Colossus, Last Guardian. Yeah, there's like that dual pack that got remastered. Um, is this game part of a series or franchise? No. Yeah, looking good. Is this game from a studio that still exists? Well, because Studio Japan no longer exists, but Fumito Ueda is making a new game. Got him. No. I think we I think we're in Studio Japan, baby. Yeah. All right. Has this game been remade by Blue Point Games? Yes. OK, so it's the Shadow of the Colossus. Shadow of the Colossus. Do it doesn't we think it's. Yeah, does it matter? It's the original. Well, does it matter if it's the original or if it's the remake? Are we calling these two different games? Technically, he says this game. Is this is this like a great game, but does it run at like 12 FPS? Yes. OK, OK. Is it Shadow of the Colossus for the PS2? Shadow of the Colossus. PS2. Yeah, there you go. Original Shadow of the Colossus got there in 12 questions. Eight things. I feel I'm pretty strong right now, Justin. Yeah, I wonder if it's hard. I've never thought about this when I was but like in Damon's shoes, when we're busy spoofing and goofing the whole time, I wonder if it's hard to keep track of the number of questions. I've always got them on my hands. Yeah, you don't see it. It's just off frame, but I've been looking at those hands. Yeah, I always got forgot about that. Well, that water classes. There's my like one of my favorite ones. Yeah, it's such a cool arena. Mark says when this game originally came out on PS2, I really didn't understand the hype. It chugged and seemed so empty. But as an older gamer now and experiencing the remake, it is not one of my all time favorites. It's easy to just pick up after a hard day of work, take down a Colossus, then put it down, simple and fun while also being gorgeous to look at. Amen. OK, never mind. I'm not going to make the joke I was thinking about making. OK, OK. Couple of fun facts. Do you know what the codename for this game was during development? This is very cute is codenamed Niko. And I see you because spiritual successor to Eiko. And me means to Japanese. That's cute. Very, very cute. All right, you guys are in good shape. Twelve questions in next suggestion comes from thordajunk, who says this is definitely one of my favorite redacted games to date. Yeah, you gotta be careful, though, because the redacted could be favorite games to hate on because it's terrible. You never know. Let the questioning continue. OK, did this game come out in the 70s, 80s or 90s? No. OK. It's another modern. Is this a game? Is this game exclusive to the Xbox series of consoles? No. Sorry, that was a bad question. You're trying to you're out here trying to met a game. There's no there's no connection between the five. It's five random. It's just chaos out here. There's no system. OK, what's this game made in Japan? No. OK. Was this game made in the United States? No. Oh, OK. Yeah, I mean, that basically confirms it's. It's. A rare game, a late, late Nintendo era rare game. But late. I mean, that would be what though. You it's ukulele. Um, I mean, maybe maybe maybe Nintendo, maybe rare didn't make any Nintendo games after 2000. Maybe they were all done. No, it's Star Fox Adventures. That's what it is. Let's see. Is this game in the PS2 GameCube? Xbox line of hardware? No. OK. Rip. So it's a little more modern. Could could still be ukulele. It could be Banjo, Kazooie, Nuts and Bulls, but that is exclusive to Xbox. Yeah, that's why I don't know if I I don't know if I actually think it's a rare game, but not made in America, not made in Japan. Could be Korean. I mean, it could be Australian team Bondi. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, you're right. Good call. OK, OK, OK, OK. What? What did you just ask? It's not a PS2 Xbox or GameCube era game. OK, what about the next generation? PS3 Xbox 360, I guess, we Xbox one and then. Oh, my bad. Yeah, my bad. All right. No. We. Yeah. Not Xbox one. Sorry, brain. Are you asking? Yeah, you're asking if it's three six three six generation. Correct. Yes. OK. OK, so maybe it is team Bondi. It could be L.A. Noir. L.A. Noir. Yeah. I don't know why we always let's on this. Yep, it's got to be this one game. I just like to do it. Is this is addicted to like the one time in my life that it was that you're calling you're calling your shot. Yeah, ever since. Is this an open world game? Yes. Oh, maybe it is L.A. Noir. Damn. Yeah. I feel like we just had that or maybe we thought it was like just just causes also like that that got it start during this era. And I believe that's a European based studio. Avalanche Studios, which I believe is like Swedish or something. Lange, are they are they are they making what Hogwarts like a C2 is that them? No, that's port key games. That's WB games. Is that OK? Yeah. They also did Mad Max, I think. Nobody nobody knows. It could be Mad Max, by the way. If it was them. Three sixty era Saints Row. You got your just causes. You got your L.A. Noir, your GTA four, which Rockstar. What about what about just GTA? I mean, Rockstar is what they're Scottish, right? I mean, would they still be considered a Scott? Yeah, right? Because Rockstar North, no, Rockstar North. Well, I mean, yeah. So I'm getting in my head. Get out of my head. OK, so it's it's open world. It's PS3 360 generation. Is this game part of a series? Yes. Let's see, what's the the this game focus on like street level crimes? What does the Grand Theft Auto and say so right there? I guess I'd be L.A. Noir, too. Damn, that's a bad question. Yes, OK, this game focuses on street level crimes. So it's not just cause because then that that's like international stuff. I don't think it was that bad. It eliminates Mad Max, it eliminates just cause. But David's making a look now, which makes me think it's just cause. Is there a grapple hook in this game? No, OK, it's not just cause. That's 10 questions. I had to get it out of my system. I'm sorry, Justin. 10 questions into this game. That's fine. OK, Saints Row. L.A. Noir. And Grand Theft Auto. Is there any other things that we're missing? Any like glaring or street level crime? I guess just wait. Crackdown. Yeah, except that's an exclusive. Oh, we don't I don't think we know if this is an exclusive. Well, we know this game, multi platform. Yes. All right. So it's L.A. Noir GTA. I think it is probably GTA five. Is this game? That's my guess. Does let's see. Did this game get 10 out of 10? Well, hold on. I know we're not allowed to use our computers, but I'm going to. Hold on. We can narrow it. I did. You can narrow it. I'm five. We can narrow it down. We can narrow it down. Is this set in a fictionalized New York? No. OK, hold on. That's GTA four. Yeah, exactly. So it's not. So it's it's got to be. Oh, I said GTA five. Oh, shit. Damn it. OK, so now we just know L.A. It's either it's either. It's either GTA five L.A. Noir or a Saints Row game. I like that you've narrowed it down to these three. There are dozens and dozens of other open world games that it could be. I mean, I think that those three are the most likely. But street level crimes. Did this did this game get a 10 out of 10 for my G.N. No. All right. Not GTA five. Did this game? I don't know how to narrow down Saints Row. I mean, they got so they got sillier and sillier as they went. And we know and we know it's a part of a series, right? You asked that question earlier. Yeah, yeah. So Saints Row Saints Row one is a launch three six like launch era. Saints Row two has an insurance fraud mini game. That's all I know about. I don't think was that you don't think that I think that game was made in the United States. Saints Row. Yeah, that's isn't that Volition, I think. I don't even know. I can't even tell you. But it and then what was the third series you thought it might be? Oh, it was crack. Crackdown was the last one that it came in. It's not that. Is this game? Is this game? It's part of a series. OK, never mind. I'm not going to ask what I was about to ask, which is, is it based on a license? At this point, you should use your hack. The hack. Have we mentioned the name of this game? No. Oh, shit. OK. I guess it's not L.A. Noir. Not L.A. Noir, not Saints Row. Not mean not anything we've mentioned. So I don't it being part of a series, because there was also like the Godfather and like Scarface and like weird open world. Yeah, you're right. But they're not but they're not part of a series. Mafia. I think it's one of. Yeah, that's a pretty good call. Could be mafia to street level crime. It fits its multi plat. Was is this game set in a historical time period? No. OK, not a mafia game. That's 15 questions on this round. I feel like we're on the cusp of it. We're like right there. Um, let's see. Street level crime. Is there a super hero game? Yeah, is this a superhero game? No. Good. What other street level crime games are there? Tarnished. It's part of a series. There's Sleeping Dogs. That's not that's not part of a series. You're right. It's a great game, though. It is a good game. There was those two. Oh, but it's not licensed. There was the the what the Kung Fu games. Did we ask if I don't think you actually asked the license question? Did you? I think well, but I guess I'm just as I'm assuming it's not because it's part of a series and how many license games got multiple things that are not superhero themed. But there was like, you know, I'm just there's like weird. There was like, you know, Jet Lee had a game back then, a bunch of weird stuff. Jackie Chan. There was Mark Echoes getting up. You remember that game, Damon? That's a good game. I don't ever play it. Three sixty era. I don't know if it was actually good. I, you know, it was OK. Uh. Street level crimes. Why do you keep repeating that? Why do I? Street true crime streets of LA. Not as PS2. Yeah, that could. That's PS2 era. Yeah, but there was but there was a sequel. There was true crimes. Street of New York. But it's not. Something. It's not what. But that's it's not modern. It's not a fictionalized New York, though. Remember? I hope we did specifically ask. Oh, man, maybe the name street streets, street level crimes. Yeah. Is that in the thing? Is that in the title? I was thinking about like we so it's open world. But then I was thinking it might not be like it could be like what was the open world racing game that Rockstar made midnight midnight night club night club. Yeah. And then and then I was thinking about stuff like that or like, you know, Forza Horizon, although that's not crime, except technically speeding. So. Need for speed. Yeah, need for speed. Hot pursuit. That's like Canadian, right? Something like that. I don't think Damon would do that to us. But it's an open world game. I'm not doing anything to you. Racing game. Do we want to ask if it's a racing game? No, are you running around on foot mostly in this game? No. Oh, OK, OK, OK. We're on to something. Maybe it's midnight club. Is this Rockstar? I don't remember which Rockstar studio. I mean, this was before they went like. I mean, it could be. Is this a racing game? Yes. It is. It is. And dude, midnight club three dub addition. Yeah. See, I don't know that they even make. I didn't even know that they made three of them. I could only remember one and two. I don't know when they came out. Midnight. I don't know if midnight club three dub edition, I believe would have been this era. But I don't know if there's a racing game that has more to do with crime than, you know, you could like, they're all a little bit about crime because street racing is illegal, but like the need for speeds literally have you evading the police need for speed. Most wanted was like an Xbox 360 launch title, I believe launch window. That was. And I wonder if do you think maybe criteria made that who's not that would be burned in the United States. I know we have burnout. That'd be burnout revenge. And that was a PS2 game. But what about burnout paradise? That's open world. Oh, yeah, that is open world. That's that era. Was this game published by a. Yes. So could this game burn out paradise? Yes. All right. On 20 questions. Oh, OK. Street level crimes. Yeah. Thanks. Damon's helping us out. I know, I know. I replayed. I forget. I already forget that I replayed burnout, too. I was going to say recently, I'm realizing now it was last holiday break, so almost a year ago. And just a fantastic game, just so great. I mean, I think I'm not. Paradise Paradise is deeply disappointing to me. Oh, I love I love paradise. I think takedown's my personal favorite and then revenge. But I do think that burnout paradise has probably my first like two minutes of a video game ever where you're in the loading screen and then Paradise City starts playing and then the game just seamlessly rolls into it and you just begin racing. Pretty sick opening. Yeah. No, I mean, all of that stuff's great in the promise of like, you know, anything, any intersection is a new event and then it's all racetracks. And it's all just free flowing and go whatever you want. But it's like so killed by like not having a restart option. Yeah, no crash. It's just yeah, no crash. But I just love the arcade nature of what burnout was before that and replaying some burnout three takedown recently just for fun. So good. I don't I don't. This is like an example of like these games did not have to go away. I don't know why are these games just not being made to revolutionary feature the after touch your cars already exploded. You can still just move it around because why not? It's more fun. Yeah, because it's more fun. Well, and then so burnout burnout's gone. And yet Forza Horizon is one of the biggest video game franchises on the planet, right? And it's like who somebody somebody messed up somewhere. Give me a crash mode in Forza Horizon. Come on. They got to get the the licensee. Yeah, they got they got to get Lexus to sign off on that. For the junk says I used to spend days inside a game stop because my mom worked a few stores down from them enough for the employees to joke about charging me rent and I would play the demo of burnout paradise repeatedly at a PC station. They had it's definitely one of my favorite racing games to date. I think one of the first games that also had in game online advertising. I think Barack Obama ran ads. Whoa, in the game. I'm not mistaken. That's funny because it came out in 08, which would have been that was an election. There was a there was a startup. No, I can't remember the name of the company now, but that was their thing was if your game was online, the the billboards in the game could change and you could buy like buy the ad space. In game advertising and a racing game make sense to me. Yeah, it was 2008 for 360 PS3 and PC. It was remastered in 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One. And then that version came to the switch in 2020. Nice. And criterion is not around anymore or. I think it's a little around, but I'm not sure what they've been doing. Yeah, they're on. Didn't they get like subsumed into like dice and stuff like that? Yeah, I think they're a part of battlefield now. If I'm not mistaken. That sounds right to me. Yeah, or neither did they do battlefront. Yeah, I think so. All right. Innovation is moving fast across every industry with AWS AI. From Formula One insights to smarter power grids and personalized learning. AWS AI is how leaders stay ahead. OK, we guys are still in good shape. 32 questions in. Still have two games down. Yeah, two games down. You still have eight banks questions. Let's move on to round. I think I skipped. Wait, no, I didn't write. There are two games down. I think I skipped. Wait, no, I didn't write. There are five round three. This is Tom from Corning, New York, and they've suggested a 20 question game that they can't believe hasn't been used before. Never used. Never been used before. Did this game come out in the 70s, 80s or 90s? Yes. OK. What was this game released on the original NES? No. Is this game in the Super Nintendo? No. Oh, Sega. Or arcade game. Game was this game originally released for the Sega Genesis? Yes. Oh, man. Well, this is a bit of a blind spot for me. All right, let's see if we can do this. But it's interesting that it's Genesis and not Super Nintendo. So, you know, we got that going for us. Was it developed or published by Sega? Yes. That's fine. Vectorman. It's Vectorman. I think I think Vectorman is a super plausible guess. That's like one of the few games I've played. It's also very possible that over all of 20 questions, like we've never had Sonic 3, you know, or something like that. Like Damon doesn't often like to do sequels, but, you know, sometimes. I mean, is this game part of a series? Yes. OK. Maybe it's Sonic. The Sonic Dream is still alive. Yeah. Well, there's two Vectormans. Oh, I only played the first one. Yeah, everybody only played the first one because the second one's not that great. I have a real soft spot in my heart for Vectorman. Good game. Yeah, it is a good game. And he goes, whoa. Mm hmm. When he gets up to a great splash screen on that Sega screen and we get to just see that great splash. You can you can destroy the whole logo and stuff. OK, was this game made by Sonic Team? No. Is this game star robot? Yeah. Dude, it's a Vectorman. Is the Vector Dream still alive? Was this is this the first game in a series? Yes. All right. Well, I don't you can do it. I just want to take a second to think about it because there might be other robot games. Like I'm like, it's like it's like Fantasy Star 4, Star like a robot or like something. I think I can we ask if features vectors? I think it's I think we're I think we're probably safe. I think we're good to go. Oh, I'm I should I do it? Do it. Is it is a Vectorman? Sure, it's Vectorman. From the three point line. Yeah. And you had that like like question for you said it's Vectorman. You great boss. Look at how good this game looks. Yeah. This is the boss of the first level. This was Sega. I think Blue Sky defunct. They're not in business anymore. They do this software. And and so it was never like officially I was about to say it was their answer to Donkey Kong Country, but that's not true at all. Like, but but from a well, not like, you know, like they didn't like Blue Sky made it. Right. Like it's not like Sega's like we've got to have an answer. Yeah, Sega publisher, though. Yeah, but like just the visuals, like the pseudo 3D. Yeah, it was like so good and so cool. Yeah. Yeah. I was I mean, I know I goof I goof on Sonic the Hedgehog and the Genesis now a lot. But I was a Genesis kid growing up and I have very fond memories of Vectorman. Yeah, you mentioned it on the show quite often. And that's why I think it was funny that we've never used this game for 20 questions before. I was going to say, I think I feel like it does come up kind of a lot. You could destroy the Sega logo, right? As Vectorman. Or do you just shoot like in the top right corner and something falls down? That you can do both. The tank level. Oh, my gosh. Yeah. Yeah. This game was great. Like, look at this. Look at the 3D. Yeah. It's so cool. Vectorman himself has made up how many 23 separate sprites on just Vectorman. That's what that's what they call parallax scrolling right there. Right. I've never played this level. This level looks insane. Yeah. This is so cool. It's awesome. It's a good game. Yeah. It's also Vectorman 2 was a deep disappointment. I'm pretty sure they made three Vectorman on the Genesis. Well, no, there's only two. But one of the very, very first E3s I ever went to, I played Vectorman 3, which was a 3D, you know, game, and then it was it never was released. You're right. OK. Yeah. It was going to be it was going to be on the Sega Saturn. And I think, you know, I think I was 18 years old or whatever. And then like, oh, Vectorman 3 was just out E3. And I thought that was the coolest thing I'd ever seen in my life. And then, you know, as end up in lost media. Yeah. Weird. That's crazy. Somewhere out there in a bin, there's like a prototype code. Yeah. For Vectorman 3. It was pretty bad. You guys are doing very well. It's just like that is that early, early 3D era, right? Like it just, you know, wasn't really working. Forty two questions down, three rounds in there going into your fourth round. You guys are going to you guys are doing. I feel like that could have been the hard one. That wasn't the hard one. OK. Dang. That brings us to round four. It comes from Jim Galligan, who offers no location and no anecdote. Dude, unknown. All right. Let me let me let me kick this one off. Is it 70s, 80s or 90s? Yes. Oh, there's a hesitation in that, though. I think it's pronounced Jim Gaffigan. This one is Galligan. Oh, so it's not the comedian. No, Jim Galligan. Unless it's Jim Gaffigan who he's like, oh, I don't want to change it. Jim Galligan. Jim Gaffigan, if you're watching, let us know. It's 70s, 80s or 90s. Yes. Was this originally or did this come out on the NES? No. Did this come out on the 16 bit consoles? Mm hmm. It's either arcade or like master system, I guess. I mean, in 64. Oh, yeah. One. Yeah, you're right. You're right. You're right. Or handhelds. Is this. Could be a game. Yeah, let's go for it. Is this a game on a cartridge? No. OK, so it's a CD or arcade. Was this originally a PS1 game? No, that's five. Could be Dreamcast, could be a launch streamcast game or it could be an arcade game or something hinky like that. Is this an arcade game? Originally, yes. OK, so it's probably on Dreamcast, too. Or at least it's been ported to a CD based console. Did this game come out on the Dreamcast? Yes. How's it a dead two? And it. Yeah, does this game prominently feature or is there an option for like a weird non controller control scheme? Well, hold on. Like. Can you ask that? Can you use? Can you use something like a fishing rod to control this game? A gun fishing rod or a gun, a fishing rod or a steering wheel, a fishing rod, gun or steering wheel to control this game? None of those three things. Oh, no. OK. It's not it's not Sega Bass fishing. Yeah, it's not House of the Dead. I didn't know three sadly. Could still maybe technically be typing of the dead. I think that might have come out later. So arcade games. So what? Your Power Stone? Yeah, Power Stone. I can't be Mal versus Capcom because we had that semi recently, right? And we talked about Power Stone when we were figuring out that it was. I always forget that did Power Stone have an arcade port or was it on arcade first? I don't know. I think so. Nobody knows. Or it could be like. No. Is this a well, is this a brawler? No. So it's not like, you know, it's not your up. I guess Power Stone is not a brawler. Crazy taxi. Not a steering wheel. Yeah, I go. OK. Yeah, you're right. Is this a is what did you did you ask brawler thinking that that eliminated Power Stone? Yeah, I did when I should have probably been fighting game is what I should have asked. Yeah. This is because I assumed I assumed Damon when you were asked brawler, you think of streets of rage, right? That's what I was thinking was like side scrolling brawler. That wasn't an arcade game. Right. Right. But like that type of game. But I mean, Power Stone is kind of like a. A fighting or like a multiplayer brawler. OK, OK. OK. So and he said no, so not not Power Stone. Damon's Damon's being generous. I mean, is it a fighting game? No. That's 10. Me what? So it arcade game that came to the Dreamcast that is not a fighting game or brawler but does not have weird controls. Well, it does. I think specifically we did ask if it's a fishing rod, gun or steering wheel. Well, OK. But but to your point, though, your previous point is the keyboard. I'm kind of latched onto that typing at a dead now. Yeah, I just I didn't think that that came till later. I didn't think that was from the 90s, but maybe it was. Oh, boy. What else could we ask? Oh, OK. It could be, you know, there's like Mars Matrix and like there are schmup's back then. I mean, I don't know how I'm going to like radiant silver. I'm never going to zero in on like which ones were on the Dreamcast. Is it a schmup? Nope. Is. Well, I mean it. Oh. And it not being a brawler eliminates. I don't even know if any of these came out on arcades, but there was like. Also, I'm getting the Dreamcast in Saturn confused. I was thinking about like Guardian Heroes and and, you know, some of those brawlers, right? Yeah, beat them up, but it's it's none of them. Have we mentioned this game yet? Yes. Oh, shoot. Dude, I think it's typing of the dead, bro. Do you can you control that? Do you control this game with a keyboard? Yes. Is there any? Is there is this typing of the dead? Yes. Well done, Justin. You. Yeah. What a weird game. Yeah. Dude, this game rocks arcades in 1999, Dreamcast and PC in 2001. It is. This is a bummer about getting older. This game just gets too easy, though, because it's like, I know how to type. Yeah. I think it's on. I'm I get I'm not using my keyboard while I'm playing, but I'm using it now. The game is on the game is on steam. Yeah, it's also for the longest time before it was on steam. The version that's on steam is obviously available. I'm pretty sure it's a bad version of the game, if I'm not mistaken. I don't mean to slander the game, if that's not the case, but there is an abandonware version of the game that is the original release that fans have modded to make it playable on modern operating systems. There's there's a three dollar DLC for the steam version that gives you filthy words to type. What? And the example, the example in the screenshot is sexual tyrannosaur. That's from Predator. Dude, that's a hard word to type if I'm fighting zombies. It's not it. It doesn't seem like it's like super filthy, but just like blue. Like it's dripping. Dripping warp goo is one of them. OK, weird. And it's like an official. Yeah, DLC from Sega. It's the first it's it's the first thing you see when you go to the steam page. That rocks. Cool. Typing of the dead. Nicely job. There's only one game left and you guys have asked 56 questions. So we got I think within 44 questions, you can guess the final game. And you're going to be host on this truth or dare. We're going to learn so much about you. Yeah, I'm sure. I should have picked harder games. No, you guys are great. All right. Last round. Let the question continue. This is from Evan from down East to Maine near Acadia National Park. Evan says, I recently started listening regularly to the show at work. I clean cars and you help me get through the second half of slow Fridays. I mean, yeah, let's do it. I'm not trying to I'm not trying to rack up the question count here. Is this from the 70s, 80s or 90s? No. OK. Can you play this game on the switch? Yes. Is this a. Nintendo exclusive. Yes. Oh, was it originally released on the switch? No. It's Mario Mario Kart 8. It's Metroid Prime because he's celebrating the fact that Metroid Prime 4 is coming out soon. Yeah, Metroid Prime 4. Metroid Prime, excuse me. Could be Metroid Prime 4 if Damon wanted to be really sneaky. Um. Is this a platformer? Yes, that's five. Nintendo is this game 2D? Sorry, 2D. Yes, 2D platformer. Yes. Super Super Mario World, Super Mario World 2. Yeah. Yoshi's Island. Is this game? I don't. Is this game available as part of the Nintendo Switch Online service? No. OK, cool. So that gets rid of retro games. Mario Wonder. Yeah. Wait, did I ask to be asked if it was originally released on the you did? And the answer was no. That's correct. So that's that's what makes me think Mario Wonder. Correct. And that makes me think it's like a GameCube game or like a port like a like a Skyward Sword or a Metroid Prime. Yeah, except it's a platformer. Oh, yeah. You're right. Yeah, this is a little bit tricky after all. It's not on Switch Online, but was not originally released on the Switch, but is a 2D platformer. It's like an older 2D platformer. Nintendo. Then. The Nintendo was it developed or published by Nintendo? Yes. Is this game have more? Is this a Mario game? No. Yeah, that's what I thought. I'm like, I'm barking up the wrong tree. It's got to be something else. Why am I blanking on 2D Nintendo games? Like that fit this criteria that are not Mario. Like, I guess. See, what's gone a port to the switch that would make sense? Well, what's a platformer that doesn't start Mario? Now, a lot of those. Could be one of those weird Yoshi yarn games. There's a million of those. Will the Willy World and. Yarn Kirby's Epic Yarn and does this game feature any Mario cast of characters? Yes. OK, that's 10. So we're in the right territory here. Was there I don't even I don't know. This is a slight blind spot for me. Is these Yoshi games? Is Yoshi's Willy World Yoshi's 3D crafted world? There's. I mean, one of those must have been a Wii U game, you know, that then came out. Yeah, it's got to be like Willy World. I think Crafted World is an actual like. I don't like the Yoshi games used to be pretty hardcore. Super Mario World 2 is pretty hardcore and Yoshi's Island DS is like particularly like hardcore. And then now they've made Yoshi like the little kid. Yeah, kind of kind of a baby game. Yeah, they've baby very pretty, but kind of baby game. Is this a. Is this game feature to Star Yoshi? No, shoot. Oh, wait a second. It's a Mario characters. Oh, there was Princess Peach O'clock Showtime, but that was a switch. It didn't. Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. That what? What about Wario? He's up to no good all the time. I mean, Wario, the last 2D Wario Wario game was that was a platformer was the GameCube one. And I guess there was one on Wii. What about Luigi? New Luigi's. But there's obviously Luigi's mansion, but those aren't platformers. And then there was the new Luigi you. Yeah. New Luigi you. But did that come out? Is that on the switch? That is on the switch. Yeah, that is. Maybe it did come out on the switch. It is on the switch as part of New Super Mario Brothers plus Luigi you combo pack thing. I think I think I know what it is. I think it's I think it's Donkey Kong. Oh, yeah, Donkey Kong tropical freeze. I think it's either yeah, tropical freeze or returns return. But and it's a Mario cast a character. Yeah, yeah. Does this game start Donkey Kong? Yep. Cool. Which one is it? I mean, tropical freeze versus return. Donkey Kong country returns. I can't think about Donkey Kong country returns just recently got a switch port, too. Like it's like a fairly new, weirdly new switch. It came out right before like this year, right? Before yeah, a well, maybe this game come out this year. Yes. On the switch. Yes. OK. So it's got to be. Is it is it Donkey Kong country returns? Yep. Donkey Kong country returns. Originally a Wii game in 2010. Also a 3DS game. 3DS in 2013 and then came to switch this January. It's really weird when this one came out when it did. Yeah, I mean, we're in that like late switch era where like Nintendo clearly had like by time for a year. But it's like they released tropical freeze for the switch before they did this one. Yeah, which is like. Yeah, but tropical freeze was like year one of the switch. It's like, you know, we I mean, first of all, the switch kind of got Nintendo ports throughout the council's life cycle, but we particularly got them in the first year or two when they were giving us Wii U games and giving them a second shot at life. And then we got them in kind of the final year where they're like, oh, no, we need we need more games. I've never actually played this game. I've only played tropical freeze, which rules. And I've just heard that this is like a worse version of tropical freeze. Not that it's bad, just not as good as tropical freeze. Yeah. When did tropical freeze first come out? That was Wii U. That was Wii U. Yeah, it was Wii U game. That was like what, two thousand. Well, I think thirteen or something. Thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, some of that. Well, my friends, you've completely aced. We crushed it. 100 questions total of 70 questions. Wow. Five games. You got one. Got them all in 70 questions. Wonder if that's a record. Do we never went? We never went over 20 questions per game, right? No, but we got we got it on 20. Yep. Hey, it counts. A win to win. Shadow of the Colossus, Burnout Paradise, Vectorman, Typing of the Dead and Donkey on Country Returns. Nicely job. Yeah, indeed. Burnout Paradise was the diciest one at all those. Well done, Justin. Street level crimes. Street level crimes. Damon's helping us out. I got you back. Let's see what real quick before we go, Nick, you plan to play anything over the short little break here? Honestly, ever since we've been doing our our our conversation about Game of the Century Watch and during this time of year, I always get into a fantasy Dungeons and Dragons mood. So I've been jumping back into Baldur's Gate 3 and I'm looking to push credits on it now. I'm that game's got its grips on me and I'm I'm like so all in on Dungeons and Dragons and just like Faerun forgotten realm stuff that I'm I'm reading Volos guide to monsters. I'm I'm all in on just source books and learning about Faerun and all of the deities and creatures. I just love learning about monster. It's like you're telling me there's a whole book that has monsters in it. Yes, please. I will read that book from beginning to end, even though I don't really plan on playing Dungeons and Dragons. So yeah, Baldur's Gate 3 and also another game that I. And planning on playing. I just don't know if we if you've announced anything yet about. Oh, so yeah, the first episode of is still fun today. Just went live today, so Ocarina of Time. So that will be showing up in your games, who feeds you can also watch the video on our YouTube channel. Yeah, news, new show is still fun today. We replay old games to answer the question. Is it still fun today? We started things off with Ocarina of Time and we've got our new next episode lined up. It'll be publishing early in the new year. And so we'll be playing that over December and we can make that announcement at a later date. Yeah, I need to play that too. But I'm going to be playing that as well. You and you you brought up Game of the Century Watch. I've been tallying all the votes. Like I put the I put out the question out and all the socials Facebook, Twitter, Blue Sky, just everywhere. Like what are what are the best games of the century so far? I'm tallying up everything. There have been a lot of tie breakers that I have to do. So yesterday, there was a there is a tie breaker between Halo 3 and BioShock. So I put a poll. I put a poll on our Facebook group. You know, which one do you think is better? The poll came out 50 50 50 exactly. People can decide between Halo 3 and BioShock. Yeah, I mean, both great games that are indicative of the 360 air. And so right now, today, I'm running GTA 5 or Half Life 2. Right now, after being up for a couple hours, GTA 5 has 49 percent, Half Life 2 has 51 percent. Oh, these are really close games. That's not what I would expect. Yeah. GTA 5 or Half Life. Yeah. But they're they're basically neck and neck. Half Life 2 is a much better game than GTA 5. 100 percent agree. My that's my opinion as well. I mean, GTA 5 is just a monster. So anyway, the Half Life, the Half Life first BioShock thing is interesting to me. I'm sure a decade ago or whenever, like when they were more contemporary, BioShock would have run away with it by far. But I think it's like more time has gone by. People like, wait a second, like maybe this game's not quite as like smart as. Or people thought it was. People have wonderful memories of playing Halo 3 multiplayer. Right. And that'll just that'll do a lot of heavy lifting for them as well. I mean, that's like Xbox Live Gold Membership plus Halo 3 equals fun. Yeah. There's been there's been, you know, 20 years of, you know, capitalism bad question mark games since BioShock. And it doesn't feel quite as fresh anymore, which is not BioShock's fault at all. That's true. Like, you know, I think it does make Halo 3 shine all the brighter. So on an upcoming episode, we'll have we'll have the definitive list the top 25 games of the century so far. It's going to be really. Why isn't Chrono Trigger on this list? What the heck? Yeah, I'm glad we solved it. Yeah, definitively, no one can get mad. No one can get mad. Justin, what are you going to be playing over the next few days? Bacteria. Obsessed. No, I've been off of Victoria for a little bit now. I've been really obsessed with with Disney Dreamlight Valley. I think I've shared on the show before the more stressed out I get, the more like chill game I need. So it's been a lot of like vampire survivors and and DDV, as we call it. They just release an expansion, right? Yeah, I'm not even in the expansion. Oh, I'll get there. I'm currently trying to get my friendship level with Elsa up to Max, which I need to get her to 10 out of 10 friendship level in order to do the quest that I need to do. But what I actually want to talk about is I've downloaded and I'm going to start dispatch. I'm super excited. Oh, yeah, yeah. I'm really I just like, you know, they did such a good job with it and those episodes coming out so quickly. So I'm like a little bit bummed that I miss the zeitgeist. It's like the new episodes were dropping, but like I'm so glad that it seems to have finished strong and like it's getting such a hearty recommendation from, you know, people who I know and trust that I'm excited to get to get into it. I didn't get a chance to talk. I don't think I was on a game scoop during that game's release, but I gobbled up each episode as they dropped. And it's one of my favorite stories I've experienced in a long time. It's it's one thing to, you know, I don't really have any interest in discussing whether or not it's a game because very clearly it is. But it takes it's one thing entirely to just tell a story, but to tell a story well. It's, you know, competing against prestige television against films. And I think this thing goes bar for bar with anything currently on TV or anything releasing in movie theaters. This is just a good story that's being told. And I'm very stoked that people seem to be globbing onto it. Well, maybe this is why I should play it because I finished Ghosts of Yote a couple of nights ago and I was going to bounce back to Outer Worlds, too. Maybe, but maybe I should play. Check out Dispatch. This, uh, don't play with the kids around. Well, no, I know that for the kids. We've been playing. We got Super Mario Party, Jamboree. Oh, that's such a good one. That's a fun one. I've never like played much of Mario Party at all. But like, you know, everyone else, the games are just dead simple, but it's totally fun to play with the kids and they're like laughing and hooting and hollering and if I may make a record in the Mario Party vein, Lego just released a Mario Party like that rules. I don't know the name of it. Yeah, but I know the one you mean. Very good. And it's like, I'm glad someone's made a Mario Party competitor. That's actually good. Yeah. And yeah, people seem to be digging it. And I've seen quite a bit of gameplay. I was like, yeah, this looks fun. Yeah, we should check that one out. Did you finish Yote? I have not. I don't think I will. You know, I was so hot on it. But by the end, I was ready for it to be over and I felt my enthusiasm is dampened a little bit. Great game. Great game. But it's just like when I for like the first half of it, I was like, this game is amazing. My favorite game of the year. Yeah, I don't know. It just everything starts to feel the rewards for most of your quests are just a weapon kit, which is like just different colors for your weapons and gear. And it's like, well, I don't really care about that. So I'll just mainline the quest. And then the villain is just like out of all the people that she wants to kill and get revision on like the main villain is the least interesting one. It's like it's like think about Kill Bill at the end. At the end, Kill Bill is a very well rounded and flesh out character, even though he's obviously evil. It's like he has his own point of view and a justification for what he did. But here it's just just an evil guy, just an evil guy that killed your family. And so anyway, good game, very good game, in fact. But I didn't end up liking it as much as I thought I would. Very pretty game. Very pretty game. All right. Anything else for us to do here? Are we going to? I think I think we ate everything with a big old spoon and we're ready to to take our power nap. Yeah, you did. Very nicely job, very impressive work for just a two person team. Usually you have at least one more person helping you.
