Summary

Kinda Funny Games Daily covers the Metal Gear Solid movie announcement with directors from Final Destination, Amazon Luna's pivot away from third-party game sales, and Pokemon Champions' rocky launch with developer apologies. The hosts discuss the $200M Marathon budget, Gunzilla's contractor payment issues, and broader trends in AAA game development costs and live service sustainability.

Insights
  • AAA game budgets exceeding $200M are becoming standard, but player acquisition and retention aren't scaling proportionally, creating a precarious financial situation for publishers
  • Video game adaptations struggle when they attempt beat-for-beat recreations of cinematic source material rather than using games as inspiration for original storytelling
  • Live service games face existential risk when launched with incomplete features and unclear roadmaps, requiring transparent communication and rapid iteration to retain players
  • Blockchain gaming studios using 'haters' framing to deflect legitimate contractor payment concerns signals deeper structural issues in Web3 gaming economics
  • Streaming platforms like Luna succeed with casual, social gaming (Game Night, Jackbox) but fail competing on traditional game libraries against established digital storefronts
Trends
AAA game development costs ballooning while market growth plateaus, forcing harder ROI justification for experimental projectsLive service game launches increasingly incomplete, relying on post-launch patches and roadmaps to address core functionality and content gapsVideo game IP adaptation consolidation around major studios (Sony, Apple) with mixed results driving skepticism about franchise adaptationsContractor payment delays and cost optimization language becoming normalized in gaming studios, raising labor sustainability questionsExtraction shooters and niche multiplayer genres struggling to achieve mainstream adoption despite AAA-level budgets and pedigreePlayStation first-party strategy shifting toward IP expansion (film, TV, animation) rather than exclusive game developmentCompetitive Pokemon gaming reaching hardcore esports levels, creating accessibility barriers for casual players in new titlesWeb3 gaming narratives fracturing between legitimate technical innovation and perceived financial mismanagement by studios

It's called Metal Gear Solid."

"I love that they took a risk, but I hate that it might not be panning out for them... We can't have our cake and eat it too."

Big changes come to Amazon's gaming service and Pokemon Champions developer apologizes. We'll have all this and more because this is kind of funny games daily. Yo, what's up? Welcome to kind of funny games daily for Friday, April 10th, 2026. I'm on your host blessing Adio. Yeah, junior. Joining me is the taste maker Roger Bacourney. You're a pro. Come on. You're a pro. Come on. Come on. Come on, bro. That's a good one. That's a good one. I thought you'd be between me and you. It's not bad. It's just, you know, Mike was always weird. Mike was in between us. That's true. And Mike is always in between us. Our friendship. Don't get me started about we could be best friends. It's always Mike in middle. It's always fucking Mike. Always Mike in the middle of us. Every single every now and then Mike looks at me like he wants to ask me to hang out and then he turns to you. We're Andy. Yeah, exactly. And then we both say, no, I don't want to hang out. Yeah. And I'm like, you'd ask me. I probably say, yeah, this is a good chance. I'd say no, that's not true. I'd say yes. Every now and then because me and him, we play match and do other times. That's true. Yeah. And I see it every month. He looks up to you and says, Hey man, why don't we go do this? This, this, this on Sunday. And then you like, I am ready to go. And then you look at him and say, maybe I'll let you know. Usually like, you know, because he's the thing about you ever done it with him. Yeah. Okay. About twice, two or three times. I've done it with him. Definitely. I see like 15 times. The problem he asked me all the time. And like, I'm excited that he asked me because I want to do it. The problem with these magic pre-release events is that they last forever. And so you go and it's like, I'm dedicated. And then out. No. Oh, absolutely not. You go in and you're dedicated for like four hours in there. And I wish they just cut them in half. You know, I buy this. I might just leave. No, because it's rude because basically it's like tournament style. Like they match you up with other people. So if you leave, that means somebody else is just fake a phone call. Oh, my grandma. Oh, grandma. Oh, he's talking about grandma. This is the fourth time his grandma's died. Grandma keeps dying. I don't know what to tell you. Oh, I can't believe my dick. There's a facilitator. She's fine now. Oh, she's back. Okay. Cool. Sick. She'll die again in a few weeks from now. Um, that's I can joke about that because my grandma's already. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. RIP. Um, but yeah, I'll do every now and then with Mike. Okay. Okay. Very much. I had to decide the week of. Yeah. I can't tell you four weeks ahead. No, no, no, no. I don't know about the energy. That's too far ahead. How are you doing? Blessing. How are we feeling? It's Friday. Doing a shit. Looks like garbage outside. I like the rain, though. What? I really like rain. Yeah. The rain is like Seattle in you. Seattle in me. I think it's the Midwest in me as well. Like there's something that's very cozy about rain for me where when it's rain, and I think it's the inside, like I like to stay inside. I'm an indoors person. And so when it rains, the vibe gets cosier. But you can't go to Oakland. I have. Yeah, I can't go to Oakland. Usually if I'm in Oakland, I'm playing magic at a friend's house. Sure. Okay. So you're already inside. So we're inside, you know, put on some lo-fi hip hop. Yeah. Come on. That's a rainy vibe. What about you? How are you doing? I'm good, man. I don't like the rain. I hate the rain. I feel bad in my heart. You know what I mean? I walk outside of my threesome. I'm feeling your joints. Yeah, I feel my joints like an old person right now. I'm hobbling around. I was going to rain today. A lot of games, a lot of redacted, a lot of things to play. I'm excited. I'm excited about that because I don't have much planned this weekend. Yeah. And so I'm going to spend time finishing up a redacted. I actually have, we'll see if I can finish it up before the work days over today. I don't know if I'll be able to, but I have a free afternoon. So I'm hoping like one of the redacted is maybe I can get done at the work day. Okay. If not, it'll become a weekend game. But I was also thinking, I'm like, do I boot up Life is Strange? Is that, does that become a weekend game for me? Maybe that is an easy weekend game. It's not too long. Not too long. We're almost, we're at the ending, I think. What do we have to do? Cause I see, I see the streets talking sometimes and they're like, where's Life is Strange content? I think it's going to have to be a great way. Three people. That's the sad part about the Sorry Chat. But like, what can we ask them for? You know, like, cause I get X amount of, we do a fundraiser. Like how do we raise, like how many subscribers do we have on our YouTube? Right. 307,000. There's no way that a Life is Strange reunion review is going to drive our sub count on YouTube. If you do, if you get us a three 15 K, 10 K, no, it's not all this works. Get us the 310,000 subs on YouTube and I'll put it on a gamescast. Okay. Yeah. Reviews. That's like me on airbud in review. Say if we get 12,000 views, I'll do airbud too. I got like 7,000 views. You don't understand, Roger. I'm the draw. All right. I'm the one that's going to make it happen. I'm the draw. Violets are archive says in the chat. I'm going to say 312 because I don't think you guys can hit three 12. If you can get to 312,000 subscribers, we'll do a full gamescast. Full gamescast. Full game hour and a half. I don't give a fuck if Greg Miller says no, I will make it happen. We are moving. I don't get the state of play next week. I don't give a shit. I don't care. We're doing it. 312,000 subscribers. Thousands of subscribers. I'll play through Life Strange reunion. Okay. And we'll do a full. We might have to ban somebody the chat. What they say. Lucid Dre for M in the chat says the sub count has gone up like 10 K in a decade. Okay, let's talk. No, no, no, let's not. Maybe 20 K because we don't ask enough. That's the problem. We ask for certain things. We ask for super chats. They give us super chats. How often do we ask for subs? That's so true. But I do think that every single human being that watches on YouTube is subscribed. Well, then share it with a friend. Share it with a buddy or do the thing that I do or I say people do go to a local sprint store, boost mobile, just sign in, use all the accounts that they have and just subscribe. Someone, some idiot has signed in there. Just fucking press subscribe on our channel. I'll be honest. I'm not tapped in enough to my church upbringing because you're looking to be crazy. Oh, let me let me lay into the plane. All right. You go into church every single week and pastors are such great marketers. Yes. Because they make you feel a divine feeling of I need to bring my friends here. I need to bring as many people here as possible. I need to show them the word of God. We got to tap into that. Invite your friends to kind of funny chat. Yeah. If you're listening, if you have a friend that's nerdy and likes video games, send them a link. Convert your friend to become a best friend. Damn. Damn. I'm sure put it on a poster. Let's turn your friend into a best friend. Put them in the church of kind of funny. Ten dollars to do the offering bucket. Patriot.com is kind of funny. Enough about that. Let's get into the show. Remember, if you're watching live, you can be a part of the show by super chatting in over on YouTube.com slash kind of funny games. I remember you couldn't do this without our producers over on patreon.com slash kind of funny. So thank you to Carl Jacobs, Omega Buster and Delaney, the Psalm twining. For now, let's begin with what is and forever will be the Roper report. It's time for some news. We have six stories today. Baker's does it? Oh, I like the hard car. Yeah, a possible six point five. Because as we're going live, Roger asked me, Hey, have we talked about this on the show? And I was like, Oh, shit. I thought for some reason, it was one of those things, one of those stories. I was like, yeah, enough. They kind of got lost in the ether. And it probably got like maybe got broke, like right after games. Delia, I think it broke right after games. Daily. I'm also, as I was looking through, I wasn't finding official sources talking about it. Yeah, we got that one though. So we're good. Yeah. I might sneak it in there somewhere. But let's start off with story number one. Metal Gear solid movies in the works from Final Destination Duo as they ink. Sony first look. This is an exclusive from Hollywood Reporter. Fiborous kit. What a difference a Hollywood year can make. Just a year ago, Zach Lepofsky and Adam B Stein were a film making duo with humble indie horror roots, prepping to release their first sizable feature, Final Destination Bloodlines from New Line Cinema. Now, thanks to that movie's critical and box office success, Lepofsky and Stein have become one of the busiest movie makers around. They are so in demand that Sony Pictures has snared them signaling or sorry, signing the duo to a sweeping and expansive first look deal, which covers all the studio's film labels. Under the deal, Lepofsky and Stein's newly launched company, Wonder Lab will develop the films for the duo to direct in original projects that they will produce for other directors. The focus is creating wildly fun, commercial, character driven, genre bending films that are currently meeting potential executives to help lead the company. And as part of the deal, the duo will direct Sony's company or Sony's Columbia Pictures adaptation of Metal Gear Solid, the pioneering video game created by Kojima. It would mark the first time the blockbuster title, a stealth combat game with sci-fi and spy features would be brought to the screen. Father and son team Aviarad and Aviarad are producing the feature. Well, no, it's like a junior. You got to add a junior to one. You got to do it. You can't do that at Hollywood, right? Don't you have to have like an entirely unique name? Or is that just? Yeah, I think it's like something to do with like a sag or something like that, right? And then you do have to have a maybe just maybe in the back end. You know what I mean? It's like the second. I think that's like technically a junior, you know what I mean? So but I don't say anything. Yeah, like Michael or Michael B. Jordan had to put the B in there. Yeah, exactly. Because it's like one. What is the name for? We don't know the original Jordan was already in. Sack. He's already in Sack. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, of course. Well, Zach and Adam are thrilling storytellers. I'm dying in the background. Zach and Adam are thrilling storytellers, masters of visuals, insuspends and two of the most impressive director producers working today. Said Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, President Sanford Pnich. That's a crazy title in a statement. Well, with projects across all the company's film labels, we are so happy to create a home for them and proud to have them as part of the Sony family. And quote, Roger, there's this news surprise and delight you. No, not really. I mean, it's there was an adaptation of Metal Gear Solid that has been in the works for years that we talked about on KFC. I think it's as when I first joined the company, we were talking about it for the first time. It was the director of Kong, Skull Island or whatever. He was working on that for a minute. It's a was it not like Jordan vote, Robert? Yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I think I thought the long beard. So he was working on that for a while. Remember us talking about that? And I recently ish. There was the Oscar Isaac news of like, oh, he's attached to that. And now this seems like this is probably a reset point for them of like, hey, I don't know if Oscar Isaac is still attached. It didn't say anything in the article. I'm heliskeptical about this for like so many reasons. One and like the main thing, if you read like the entire article, like these motherfuckers are making a lot of shit. And like, I am never confident in the studio system being like, hey, guys, this is our new this is our new duo and we're going to put them in charge of everything. They're making a Gremlins movie. They're making a movie with Steven Spielberg on top of that. They're doing this, they're doing that. They're making a Venom animated project for Sony. They're now doing a Metal Gear Solid thing. I'm not saying that they're unable to work on all these things. Of course, it's various degrees of working on these things. I think they're writing the Gremlins movie. They're not directing it. But still, that's a lot of work to put on a table of two people who just made their first feature film, like big feature, you know, big deal film, which is a sequel to Final Destination, right? So to me, it's like, I've not seen the new Final Destination. I don't know how good it is. I know people really liked it. I am kind of a little bit skeptical to be like, hey, guys, we have this sequel that worked really well and made a lot of money. OK, well, now they're the guys to make Metal Gear Solid. Are you fucking kidding me? That's a huge jump. And maybe their Freaks movie, which I haven't seen either, is really amazing. But that's a massive jump right there to be like, hey, you guys made a sequel to a legacy franchise. They're going to make, you know, one of the hardest film adaptations of all time. Yeah, that's the thing. Because when we get into the actual content of Metal Gear Solid, that's where I get like, I don't even know if I want this movie. You know, I don't think I. Metal Gear Solid is when we get into the conversation of video game adaptations versus other mediums, when you get into the comics, when you get into the books, right? There's I think a lot you can do there as far as interpretation and fully realizing what this looks like in a cinematic sense, right? Books aren't necessarily cinematic, unless in your brain they are. But like when you're reading, it's like not cinematic inherently, right? Same with comic books, video games. And this is where I land with why I think the last season two, especially didn't work and why I worry about God of War, why I worry about things like Horizon, right? When you are adapting something, even though Horizon, I think, is has been rumored to be a prequel, even though that got rebooted. So who knows what that's going to be? But when you're adapting something based off of an already existing video game story, when you're going beat for beat, I have a cinematic version of the story already. It's called Metal Gear Solid. Yep. You know what I mean? That game and that series has been developed to present like a movie. I know when you do a live action movie, there are things you can do there. Of course, there's Kodak calls and all these things and so much story that you can recontextualize in ways that make more sense for a film. But I don't look at Metal Gear Solid and go, oh, I wish this had performance. I wish this had voice acting. I wish this had visuals because it has those things. Yes. And also it is very cinematic. Of course, Kojima is a very cinematic video game director, but it is especially Metal Gear Solid one. Like I just recently played for the first time, maybe six months ago. It is such a video game at its core. Like there is like a lot of mechanics that you, you know, changing the fucking, you know, the player one to player two thing with the Psycho Mantis battle. Like there's a lot of very video gamey things that are weird and unique and are definitely not going to be able to translate to film. Right. You have to be very, very creative to do that. Of course, you know, do you want that translated to film? It's going to be maybe a little kitschy and weird. Yeah. But at the end of the day, like I do see a world where you can make a Metal Gear Solid movie. That's going to be pretty great. I mean, I think you see you see what that game is. You see how you can adapt that. It's just I think I would need directors that I am sold on being visionaries. Who would be your director? I mean, honestly, the craziest one would be the people that directed everything everywhere at once. I know that's like not necessarily like I need somebody that is like willing to think outside the box. See, that's fine. And it's going to break it all. Because like this isn't my pick, but I almost want somebody who's like Edgar Wright-esque, you know, somebody who understands the tongue and cheek nature. If you're going to lean into the video gamey aspects of it, right? Of like put the controller you got to have somebody that is willing to play around with the medium in interesting ways. Yes. And I do think horror is actually an interesting side to go about it. So the more I'm talking about, the more I'm like thinking about it, like, OK, horror is like a great avenue to kind of adapt, especially like the the whole not sniper wolf. What's the guy with the one eye? It was the great. The great. The great wolf. Oh, wait, sniper. Wait, the guy with the one fucking eye, the cyborg guy. Cyborg ninja. Cyborg ninja. I don't like the guy with the great wolf. No, well, he's no great. Great Fox. Great Fox. There it is. Yeah. That is that's a horror segment, right? Like there's there's harder elements in this game. And there's that that's that feeling of dread throughout it when you're going through it. Honestly, a great one for me is that. Craig, that Craig, the director of weapons and he's doing the red and barbarian and now he's doing the Resident Evil movie. And he is. Interesting. I'm very excited for his Resident Evil movie because it is not an adaptation of the games. It is a it's in the universe. It's going to have umbrella corp. But it's not going to be. We're not going for the lore. We're just going to make something that's in the vein of it. And I think that's really interesting to have a director that gets the source material and is able to kind of add on top of it. That's the best case scenario, in my opinion. Who directs the Mission Impossible movies? The bunch of people. The latest guy is Macquarie. I forget his first name. My thing, who directed maybe Fallout? Because that fall is probably the latest Christopher McCarrie, favorite one that I have. Yeah, you're right. Christopher McCarrie. I it maybe it's not. It maybe doesn't come down to director. I don't know. But I would if you were going to go, I guess, the more serious route, say it's like less of the Edgar Wright. We're tongue in cheek. We're doing all this crazy shit. If you were going to go, we're making a grounded. Like real Metal Gear Solid movie that takes itself fully seriously. I think you would have to go that route. I think you would have to be like this. You would have to take the Mission Impossible team. Maybe even take Tom Cruise and go, hey, I got not saying Tom Cruise stars a snake, because I don't think that works. But like maybe he is overseeing it to some extent of like what this looks like. But you would have to go full all in. This is the next Mission Impossible that we're doing is Metal Gear Solid. But I think that like Mission Impossible. Mission Impossible is less interesting than a Metal Gear. Like Metal Gear is so much more political and weird and scary. Like honestly, as we're talking about it, it's the answer that I've given for multiple video game adaptations. And he's doing a video game adaptation right now and filming right now. And that's Alex Garland, who's directing the. Oh, I like that. And that's like a perfect. That's the perfect guy. Right. He did ex machina. He did Civil War 28 years later. Annihilation like annihilation has that vibe. Of course, it's very different alien. Right. Have you seen Annihilation? I've seen Annihilation. That movie has that cool dread of like that feeling of like what is happening? I'm going deeper and deeper and deeper or something I don't understand. And like Alex Garland would kill it. And he's a gamer. He gets video games. Like he is my guy for he's doing the Elden Ring thing. I wanted him to do Gears of War. I think he would kill it with Gears of War. He recently did Warfare, which is, you know, a war movie. And adding that with the alien stuff. He is the guy to do that stuff. But horror is not a bad way to go about it. I'm just a little skeptical of these two people specifically who have just gotten into the, you know, Hollywood sphere of making these big budget movies. I think that's always a tricky situation. Marvel does that a lot. We're like, Hey, yeah, here's an indie director. Now here's three hundred million dollars to make everything. Oh, it didn't work off. Fuck. OK, you're dead now. You're you're you're you're gone into director jail. Like that's what happens a lot of the time. And that's very scary in a precarious situation. I'm trying to think of a movie. The word narcos keeps on reminding us. Not a movie. That's a TV show. There is a movie that's like a almost like a militaristic like drug crime film that came out in the mid twenty tens. Oh, Sicario. Sicario. That's that's Denny Villeneuve. That would be crazy. Something about that, I feel like that that he takes some of that. He wouldn't be able to do it because he's doing James Bond movies, but that would be crazy. That would be something about that. Oh, that would be that would be really. No, that would actually be nuts. So now we're talking about a bunch of things that are not happening right now. I love it. Yeah, I love that. Because I think there's something. Yeah, this announcement doesn't inherently excite me. I think for all the reasons you're talking about, where I look at these names, I'm like, all right, whatever. I don't really these aren't the directors or these aren't the people that I would look at and go, oh, hell, yeah, metal gear, that's the perfect fit or whatever. But I also on the other side of it, I think I just don't really even want to metal metal gear, solid movie. Yeah, I'm just not craving it. I'm it's not that I don't go back and forth. It's like I can see it being a very good movie. And if done well, it would hit and would be a massive, massive smash hit. Like I see no issue with that. And I don't think it's one of those games that I see it like, oh, you can't adapt this. Like you can adapt it. It just is probably going to lose the sauce, the Kojima sauce and the weirdness. Oh, for sure. It's just going to be a pretty straightforward political crime spy thriller, which is that really what you want? You want the weirdness. You want the funny tongue and cheek. Like he's my thing is I love those kind of movies. Like when you say political spy thriller, I love that shit. It doesn't have to be metal gear, though. Like if it's not if it's not metal gear, then just don't make it metal. You know, but that's when I know we're talking about IP and Hollywood, right? Like Hollywood, everything is IP now. But we're going to shit on it. Like that's the thing is they're going to make it and it's not going to feel metal gear and gamers are going to go, well, this fucking sucks. And it's going to blow back on you. And this is this is also where a few things I want to bring up. One, this is Sony, who is they're producing and making this movie. They're also doing the Fizzant movie, which is also. Oh, yeah. So that's also pretty funny of like they're doing the Kojima version of the metal gear game and movie also at Sony. So that's I don't know how. Firmials, I still am like he said it was doing multiple things, right? Yeah, I believe he said he's doing a movie. It is like a cross media thing. But yeah, with Sony Pictures specifically. Gotcha. That's weird. Questions about I'm sure I'm sure Kojima is looking at this and being like, the fuck is going on here? Like, I wonder if he got the heads up if he got like a favor. Me for I I took it as like, do you do you remember Defiance? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Defiance like a sci-fi. It was a sci-fi game that had television, like integration, and like crossover to it. And they try to create it as a multimedia thing. I almost viewed Fizzant as that. We're like, all right, you're talking about doing cross media shit. We might have to like rewatch. I don't know if we have a link to the Kojima Fizzant announcement that we can revisit. But yeah, I wonder what that really looks like. That's a great call. Maybe it is like more of a defiant situation. Yeah, you know, use the movie or use the other media to expand the world. Because they did the thing in the video where it's like zooms out and we see the Sony pictures or whatever. Right. Yeah, I'm going to look through it as we as we talk here. But it's they do that. But also Sony in general has been talking about for a while now. They don't have IP. They don't know what the fuck they're doing. They have Karate Kid. They have Final Destination, which is one of the things that yeah, if we could skip towards the ending when they do the zoom out. Yeah, they zoom out. They do the whole thing. Guys, so cool. This is so random and cool. I like how they fist bump. That's pretty dope. But and it goes out and they're on a production lot. Look how cool this looks. Yeah, this is on the Sony pictures. Wait, can you give me the title? Can we like just turn on the volume? Oh, Columbia picture. And watch the second half of this. Well, doesn't that doesn't the water tower say Sony? Yeah, so I guys Columbia. They're the same company. Okay, gosh. Oh, okay. You know, not much. Too much. A home site. Okay. A guy. Got to get him. Okay. I'm going to go. I don't want to be able to transcend the barriers between the film and this project. And we will fully support you with the latest innovation Sony has to offer. More details to come. Okay. So pause that. So yeah, they don't he doesn't say it's going to be a yeah, he says they're hoping to transcend. Wait, go back to the exact wording. We hope to transcend the barriers between film and video games. What does that mean? What does that mean? I mean, but clearly a collaboration with Columbia and Sony. So it is there is some connective tissue there. All I'm saying is like it is interesting that Sony's publishing a Metal Gear movie and also working on Fizzin, which has some film element in it. And then on top of that, Sony is now over here trying to figure out video game movies and trying to jump on that trend. So this is just the beginning. Everybody jumped on the tree. Everybody jumped way too late. We've been saying this for years that this was going to happen. Yeah. Now Metal Gear, great call. Sure. Go forward. Fucking Astro Bot. Astro Bot's the next one. No, it's not. I think you get. I think there's Sony animated. Yeah. But I feel like there's IP that works better for TV. And I think they're doing it because like they're doing gravity rush, dude. Like that's doing whatever. That's not happening. There's no way. I mean, there's no way they're making it happen. It hasn't a very long time since they did that and Pat upon, which is the worst. They say Pat upon. Yeah, they said Pat upon as well. What are they doing? Like that was an insane situation. Well, what are you guys doing? Everything has to be IP now. So why are you choosing those IP? You have your PlayStation. If it exists, we're making it. Why are you shooting yourself in the foot? We can't make that. Would do great. Everything's crashing. Everything. We can't put money into an original idea. So as long as the night, that is sold at least five units in the past, we'll make something out of it. Yeah. I mean, we sell a Pat upon moving. They've been talking about Ghost of Tsushima. They've been talking about, you know, for rising, rising, right? But like I, I, and Chara to. I think this is just the beginning. Oh, well, yeah. I'm trying to forgot about that. Are they even making it in Chara to? Yes, apparently. Allegedly. Also, a, a V arid, but also obvious is a part of good movies too. So it doesn't really matter. Yeah. But yeah, I don't know. This is the beginning of something. And I would say in the next within this year, you're going to get like two to three more PlayStation video game. So name announcements for movie adaptations. Like Cooper? No, it's not like Cooper. If I were to get, honestly, I think actually, I think actually, but is a is a slam dunk of like, if you do an animated version of it, it gets the kids, it gets it in front of the kids of all these PlayStation characters. It's easy. It's a fun little robot that's saving the day. He comes out of a place. It, they go, they show the trailer shows a PlayStation kids playing PlayStation animated kids. And it goes inside my problem with this. Boom. Is that we here's, I, we should be in an alternate universe where the Mario movies were made by like a different studio and illumination makes Astro Bot because illumination and Astro Astro Bot would be such the perfect marriage. Yes. Because there's millions. Yeah. But also it's like, it's all the references without the substance, which is what Astro Bot is in terms of story, not in terms of gameplay. A lot of substance in the gameplay. But you get what I mean. Like, yeah, that's minions right there. Sure. But then you also have the Sony animated studio, which is killing it, like absolutely destroying it. Like that, that their team over there is doing some amazing stuff. And that's who should be making the Mario movie. I mean, yes, we should flip spots. We can switch spots. Like, hey, we'll give you, give us Mario. We'll give you Astro Bot. I think that's an easy trade. That makes sense. That makes sense. $5 million for $1 billion. Fucking in a shrimp fill of danger. Look at me. Like, what the fuck are you talking about? No, we're not giving you Mario. Yeah. Yeah. We're going to see a lot more of this and I'm, I'm, I don't know, Luke warm on this announcement. Well, let's move on to story number two. Amazon Luna has stopped offering individual games and subscriptions from third party stores. This is Chris Scolion at Video Games Chronicle. Amazon has announced that it has stopped offering an individual game and subscription purchases through its Luna streaming service. At the moment, Luna, formerly known as Amazon Prime Gaming, offers two subscription services, Luna Standard and Luna Premium. Until today, players could also link their Luna account to their accounts on the EA, Ubisoft or GOG stores and buy games on those stores. These games would then also be playable on Luna's cloud streaming service, allowing players to play them without installing them to their PC. However, in an email being sent to some subscribers, Amazon has announced that this feature has been stopped as of today, as it focuses on the Luna Standard and Luna Premium services. Starting today, April 10th, Amazon Luna no longer offers quote, Game Stores, individual game purchases or third party subscriptions, and has removed the EA, Ubisoft and GOG stores. Players who previously purchased titles through Luna can continue to play them until June 10th, at which point Luna will no longer support them. They'll be playable through EA, Ubisoft and GOG stores they were redeemed on. Games that were also carried over through the bring your own library feature, where purchases made directly from EA, Ubisoft or GOG could be brought to Luna for streaming, will also no longer be supported from June 10th. Luna is also no longer selling subs to Ubisoft Plus and Jackbox Games. Players who subbed to these through Luna will have their active subscriptions canceled at their next billing cycle, meaning they'll have to resubscribe elsewhere. Some players will be eligible for a free membership to Luna Premium, Amazon re-contacting these players on or after June 10th with details on how to claim the offer. Quote, What's staying and getting even better? We're doubling down on a broad range of gaming experiences, including strong third-party titles delivered in ways that make great games more accessible, as well as new and unique gaming experiences like Game Night, Amazon Role. We appreciate you being a part of our journey, and we're excited to continue delivering great games and gaming experiences through Luna Standard and Luna Premium, like Judge Snoop Dogg. I have insight into this blessing. I have a lot of insight into this. Because last weekend I booted up Luna, and I played it with a group of friends. For Leigh-Anne's birthday, I needed some type of Game Night situation. So I was like, okay, maybe Jackbox, maybe I want one of these fucking board games, or whatever the digital board games you all set up on your phone or whatever. And I was like, oh, Amazon Luna exists, and oh, I have Amazon Prime, so let's look into this. And it was kind of impressive when it comes to the Game Night offerings that they had. It was exactly what I wanted. It is a disaster when it comes to the way that they've structured this, because you have no idea what you... It's part of the Prime subscription and what's not. So honestly, this is probably the smartest thing for them to do, because when you go on the service, it works very well for the most part. There's one... One of us couldn't like use the fucking... We would connect them and disconnect our phone all the time for some reason, but other than that, it was a pretty like seamless experience. But when you go to the actual service itself, it has all of these games, and you click on them and like, oh, this is not included in the thing. Oh, I thought this game was included. No, you have to pay $6 for the Jackbox membership. Oh, one of the Jackbox games are included in the Luna standard, and it just got very confusing, very fast. So it makes a lot of sense that they're like, hey, we're cutting all the third-party stuff, because unlike... I think that they were trying to make this like their Amazon Prime video subscription, where they have Prime, and then they have the store, where people can buy things, and then they can, you know, basically use it as a rental subscription place, or just a rental video platform. But video games are so much more expensive, you know what I mean? Like the server cost of it all, it doesn't make sense for the amount of people. Clearly, the chat is looking at it. They're the people that would be using this. They're like, we're not using this. No one's using this. So cutting it all makes sense. Sorry to the 16 users that are playing it and actively playing control on there or whatever. But when it comes to the actual what this is and what Luna is supposed to be, it is for my purposes of, hey, I have a bunch of people over. We want a game night. We don't want to buy the Jackbox games, or we want just the basic offerings of, you know, we want to draw something on the TV and guess what? We each draw. That's what this is. And it worked really well. And also, I will say, I did try out the Stoop Dog game. Yeah? What's the verdict? The verdict? Ding, ding, ding. It's pretty funny. It was pretty fun. It was very like complex. Of course, it's AI. That sucks. That side of it sucks, right? But what's AI about it? A lot. So you're going there. You have Stoop Dog's AI voice, right? But then you talk to Snoop, DL, Double G, literally a robot. Yeah, exactly. And then the whole idea is that one person's a defendant, one person's a plaintiff, right? So then I want the defendant has to say into the microphone on your phone, what is like they're suing the other person for. So you just say like a general thing. My thing was like, I was going up against Leanza and I said, oh, Leanza gave, said that this weed was going to be mid, but it was fucking really loud and it was, you know, it made me really paranoid. And I was just fucked up from it. I was trying to go weed based thing. I wanted to see the limit. It was really loud. It's crazy. So I said all that. And then it figured it out and knew exactly what I was saying. And it like rephrased it. It's like, okay, so you're suing Leanza for $100 million because you wanted some fucking mid ass weed and she gave you that shit that got you paranoid. And then it went into Leanza has to go then and then rebuttal. And then it's just, literally you're just talking to Snoop Dogg. Snoop Dogg's like, hey, you're deflecting right now. No, I'm not going to go with that niece. And then he goes over to me and then gives me a thing. It's stupid. It's like not worth the fucking, you know, leaders of water that. It might be like the first good argument for Gen AI. I'm not going to lie. That sounds pretty hilarious. It was awful, but it was also very, it was also very funny. But other than that, we played, you know, the drawing games we played with some of the Jackbox stuff. The Jackbox stuff was actually a pretty good deal. It was like six bucks for all the Jackbox games for like, really, like once a month. Yeah, exactly. Like it's like a subscription service. So that was actually a pretty good value of like, Hey, if you have a bunch of friends, how many times you're actually playing Jackbox? You know what I mean? Spend the six bucks rented essentially play all the Jackbox games you want, then just let it lapse. But so that sucks that that's going other than that. I think this is probably a good move to kind of streamline what this platform is. So when judge Snoop Dogg talks back to you, is he does he sound like Snoop Dogg? Yes. Wow. Yeah. Is he curse? No, he gets pretty close to him. He's talking about weed. He's talking about like explicit stuff, but he was not cursing and everything. He called the ends a niece a lot. He would say niece. Oh yeah, because he calls everybody. Yeah, nephew and niece. I thought they were his real nephews for a while. Like he was on an episode a while now. And I think I think he called Nick Cannon his nephew. Wow. And I was like, I didn't know Nick Cannon and Snoop Dogg were like really related. But Nick, the crazy thing is that Snoop Dogg does have actual family because Sasha Banks is like related to the dog. And when somebody told me that I was like, Oh, but like in the Snoop Dogg niece, nephew way, right? No, for real. No, that's actually his cousin or whatever. I was like, Oh, Oh, wow. Yeah. It's not just the niece and nephew situation. Yeah. Shout out everybody. We got more stuff to talk about Roger. Next, before we talk about anything else, let me bring in a couple of super chats here because I've been not looking at them like I should. Um, Mark was right. So it says late to the party. Any kind of funny friends make it to the Takanaka concert last night. Awesome stuff. I didn't know that was happening. Oh, that's cool. Um, Alvaro says never forget the guy who lost 6,000 hours in Red Dead Redemption 2 because Stadia closed tough. You should have known that. Yeah. You should know that was going to happen. I feel like when if you're closing a service, I feel like we should have the technology where you can take your save file and convert it to a different black. Yeah. I know that's probably like there's probably weird hurdles. Isn't that just cross save? Yeah, I guess so. Yeah. Yeah, you're right. It should be a law. We should make it happen more. Um, Miles says Kojima and George Miller should co-direct the MGS film. Kojima, no. Kojima is too busy, man. And also I don't know. He couldn't be sequestered to two and a half hours of a film. That movie would be way too long. It would be a disaster. I know I'm, I know when I sound like the guy who just watched Lord of the Rings for the first time, but because you are because I am, but let me tell you the Kojima extended cut of the Melogear solid movie. I'd be there for it. You'd be there for it. Just sitting there for 30 minutes during a Kodak call. Did you watch the extended version of Lord of the Rings? Absolutely not. No. I mean, now I might go back and watch it. Oh, wow. Really? That was a good movie. Yeah. Have you heard this Lord of the Rings guy? Pretty good. Like in the Hobbit? Pretty good. It's pretty good. This guy, Frodo Baggins, real short. Real short. Real short. Silver J Hawkins says Sony is just wasting money until they make Nak three. Multi Steven says bless. Dennis Velnuev also did the recent, well, I know he did Dune and Blade Runner. Oh, Blade Runner would have actually been a good touchstone, but I said Sakario because Sakario in my mind is kind of what I'd want the Melogear solid to like almost feel like in a way. But yeah, I know he did Dune. I love the Dune movies. Demon Hacker says Melogear one would be a better movie than Melogear solid. I could see it. I feel like there's more that you can pull from there. I don't know nothing about that. I don't want to be honest. When I say more, you can pull from. I guess I mean more you can be inspired from without having to make it one for one. Yeah, because there's so much content in Melogear solid that I think a movie would feel lesser than whereas if you make a Metal Gear movie, I think then it's like, okay, we take what's here and we turn it into something that you said. Not Calvin Perez says Jordan Peele, Alex Garland or the Wachowskis would be my picks. The Wachowskis would be crazy. Wachowsky. Wachowsky. Sorry. Yeah. JBC says that's why I prefer games be adapted into TV shows rather than movies. TV shows have the time to fully adapt stories. Sure. Oh, and Apple TV. That was solid. See, Apple would be the ones I would I would trust with it because they've been on such a good money. They'll spend it all. They don't give a shit for sure. Peaceful Warhead says someone said Psycho Mantis is going to start reading off your letterbox reviews. That's pretty sick. That's really funny. Aaron Lyne says, wow, that Kojima gave I feel like I missed pronounced his name. You said Avi Arid. Is that how you pronounce it? Yeah, that's what I said. Yeah. Avi Arid, the rights to the movie way back. Don't like don't like Arid, but we got Kiefer in Melgiosawd 5 from it. So it's a bit of a trade. Oh, okay. That makes sense. I mean, Avi Arid again, has a lot of stinkers, but his name is attached to so many good movies. It's like, we can really pick and choose. I mean, he did his number on a lot of the Spiderman stuff. So I understand why people don't like him for a lot of reasons. Miles says friends are good, but best friends can be better. Put it on the shirt, everybody. Put it on the shirt. The podcast you're listening to, I know you got someone you like the likes, middle, your solid. Send them this episode. Hey, we got, I got two of the funniest guys in the world. I got two of the funniest guys. They're going to make you laugh. I make it cry later in the show. You don't know. And then a zero rights. And it says, I did, I did invite a friend recently. I don't know. Let's give me an example. I don't know. I don't think about this. I don't know. It's been a while since I was like on the Leet speak side of the internet. I used to, I used to read a web comment called mega Tokyo and they'll do a lot of Leet speak in that. Pretty sick. But I haven't even thought about what they speak in a decade. That's crazy. Money to teach. Like I don't know. I was, I was taught it. I don't remember it anymore. Don't be a noob. Leet speak stri ank is one of those things that's probably been coopted by bad people. Pwned. And we're back with story number three. Marathon reportedly had a budget of over $200 million. This is Wesley Yen pulled IGN. A new report has claimed Marathon's budget is over $200 million. And while player numbers have fallen significantly since launch, Bungie's extraction shooter is allegedly not facing an imminent threat. And the report has also said that the number of people who have been charged with the Marathon has been more than 200 million. The Marathon's extraction shooter is allegedly not facing an imminent shutdown. Forbes reported that the Marathon budget is likely more than $250 million. It's worth noting that this spend allegedly does not include ongoing costs for the live service game, nor the development of post launch content. Last month, one analyst said, quote, Marathon hasn't exactly made the splash Sony and Bungie wanted, estimating sales at around 1.2 million copies. Alimia Analytics said amounted to gross revenues of around $55 million across PC via Steam, PS5, and Xbox. On Steam, Marathon hit a peak concurrent player count of 88,337 at launch. But that number has fallen steadily over the past month, with the latest 24 hour peak hitting 25,392 players. Of course, Marathon is also out on PS5 and Xbox, but neither Sony nor Microsoft make player numbers available for public. Still, PC is clearly the dominant platform for Marathon with an estimated 70% of the sales, so though Steam concurrence give us a decent idea of how it's tracking. Bungie is under pressure to deliver for Sony after recent and very public financial failings. In November, Sony said Bungie had failed to meet its sales and user engagement expectations, recording a 31.5 billion yen, that's approximately $204 million, impairment charge as a result of Destiny 2's underperformance. That was significantly enough to drag down profits at Sony's game and network services segment, which includes Sony Interactive Entertainment. According to Forbes, Bungie developers are working hard on new content and there is no danger of an imminent shutdown, but after what happened to Sony's own Concorde and more recently, High Guard, everything surrounding Marathon feels a little on edge. Roger, does that number astound you? $200 million? You get the sticker shock at first, then you start doing the math and you start thinking about it. I mean, I think if I was pitched from the people that made Destiny and Destiny 2 and Halo and said, hey, we got a brand new franchise or we're bringing back an old franchise that's a new franchise now, that's going to be our next big thing. We really care about a new emerging genre. You know, we want to put our team on it, make something that's visually cool and interesting. I'd be like, yeah, here's $200 million because Destiny 1, looking at it, sold $500 million worth of units in the first month, right? Like, of course, you're going to give them the money and also how big that team is and what they're working towards and how big AAA is. Like, everything's $200 million. We're talking about what was it, the Square Enix game? Not Square Enix, the Crystal Dynamic. No, it was Oh, the Ida's Montreal game. That's like, you know, over $100 million. That's a random, you know what I mean? Like, this is how AAA game development is. It is extraordinarily expensive. So to me, seeing the new game from the creators of Destiny, you know, that's $200 million. That doesn't really shock me. I mean, should this game have been way cheaper? Probably with the amount of, with how big the audience is, right? It's such a, it's such a weird one because to your point, this is kind of where in the last few years with leaks and internal documents coming to light and all this shit, it feels like this is becoming more of the standard at that high, at that top level of AAA. You know what I mean? You say Sony first party is putting out a game. It's probably going to be around this range, which is a crazy number, but we're talking, we've been saying for years video, video games are becoming more expensive to make. What do we think that means when we say that sentence? They're getting like, yeah, this is what we mean. The games are getting more expensive to make. They're taking longer to make, which in turn makes them more expensive. You know what I mean? Like this, I think it's par for the course, but also this lines up with everything that we've been talking about as far as the precarious place that video games industry is. We were talking about a matured medium that is struggling to continue to grow in the way that shareholders, the people that invest money, you want to see that line go up. It's like, no, the line is has evened out. And so when you're putting in more and more money and the line isn't going up, up, up, yeah, like disaster is disaster is going to happen. So I'm looking at this and I'm like, damn, dude, I'm scared for bungee, you know, and I like, I like marathon. I'm I surprisingly like marathon, but to your point, as far as should that much money have gone into marathon, I think about it from the from the idea of the kind of game that marathon is and what bungee is doing with it. And the price of trying to do something fresh, because I think marathon works on a lot of really cool levels, but not on any of the levels that would make it a mainstream video game. You know what I mean? Like if you wanted to make something, the Arc Raiders way, not in the Arc Raiders way or even like not in the destiny way, I guess is what I'm thinking. Right. I think there are genres of games or types of video games that are proven and that are safe, you know. And so like for bungee, if you wanted to make something else going to be a sales hit, you would just make like a destiny three. You know what I mean? You would make a make another halo make another halo or something that's like a halo like, obviously, because they could make a halo. But. You're making an extraction shooter that takes place in the marathon universe. I know it's like a reboot or whatever, but you have a lot of weird, cool sci-fi shit going on. And as I'm playing this, I'm like, damn, this is really fresh. This is working for me. This is doing a lot of really cool things. And no, at no point do I look at marathon as I'm playing it and go, this is going to be the most popular. I mean, tell everybody I know to play this. Yeah. There's a lot of friction in that game and there's a lot of unfriendliness to new players that I think is just inherent to what they're trying to do here. I admire the game, but I guess what I'm saying is that, of course, it's not. Yeah. And like, I don't know what that means as far as. Bungee working on a brand new triple A two hundred million dollar product. Yeah. Was it the wrong move to make marathon? I guess probably on the financial sense. But on the same, I guess for me, it's like the passionate video game player, right? Part of me is also like, dude, the fact that they're doing something this weird and different. And it has a two hundred million dollar budget. And it has a hundred million. It runs a death training where I'm like, death training is such a weird fucking game. And I can't believe it was made on a triple A scale and I fuck with it for that. Yeah. And I guess I feel the same way about marathon, but death training has a lot of shit that marathon doesn't as far as ways to get in front of people and ways to sell that to the audience. Again, like we were split between two sides of it, right? As the commentators talking about the business side of it, right? Should they have done this? Should they not? And then also just the people that enjoy cool, weird video games, right? So then you have to kind of look at this and be like, oh, I don't give a fuck. Like I don't give a fuck about the business side of it. I hope it stays around because it is a multiplayer game, right? So it's not like one of those of like death stranding where if nobody buys this training, at least I can still play it. Exactly. You there's a chance where you can never play marathon again or in a way that is official. Like this time next year. Yeah. I might not be able to play marathon anymore. But we have to look at this and be like, oh, like I'm happy that this happened. I'm happy that somehow the, you know, all of the administration changes and all the weirdest happen with PlayStation, $200 million marathon slip through. Right. But yeah, I mean, I'm sure they're looking back and PlayStation looking back at this and saying hindsight 2020, this would have been a smaller project. This would have been a quarter of the budget, but with ballooning prices. We would have. Hey, let's incubate like a part of bungee to be the marathon team. And then now the rest of you go work on Destiny three. Is that what they're not doing? I assume marathon is a is their game. Yeah. Yeah. That stuff. Yeah. Yeah. I kind of always thought about it, maybe just not looking at the news, just literally looking at what marathon was. I always assumed it was the smaller project in the team and then everyone else is working on something else. So yeah, that's that's that's the. I mean, Chad, correct me if I'm wrong about that. I assume marathon is yet the all hands on deck. This is Destiny's or not Destiny's. Sorry. This is bungee's big game. Yeah. And then who knows what they're going to work on next. That's tough. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Good game, though. Hey, Marathon's pretty sick. Marathon's pretty good. Um, but I'm looking in chat to see if anybody's going to nobody's really given me anything according to leaks. Yeah, this is the big one. It looks like there's some disagreement in chat, but I guess this might all just be speculation from chat. So let's move on to story number four. Pokemon champions developer sincerely apologizes for launch issues. Details list of bugs to be fixed. This is Tom Phillips at IGN following a rocky launch. The maker of Pokemon champions has apologized for the game's various technical issues and released a list of bugs is currently planning to fix. Champions build as the Pokemon franchises new competitive battle platform launched this week on switch and switch to but has received a mixed reaction from fans. There have been complaints of technical issues, some of which are now in the process of being fixed, but also wider criticism of the game's lack of features. Limited graphical polish and reduced Pokemon roster. I'm going to jump forward to the article where they quote a note from the developer saying, thank you for enjoying Pokemon champions. We have confirmed that the following issues are currently occurring. They didn't list a bunch of bullet points, which I saw when I logged into the game last night, basically they're fixing the, there's a lot of errors in the games. Like some of them that they list the description of leech seed state is incorrect. Under certain conditions, when both Pokemon mega evolve simultaneously, the order may be unintended. The gender of some Pokemon in the tutorial is incorrect. The gender of some Pokemon in the release coordinated teams is incorrect. When on when in the on core state, the ability lightning rod may not activate correctly. There's more. They then go on to say, quote, the above bugs are scheduled to be fixed and feature data updates or maintenance. The note continues, will continue to investigate other issues, not mentioned above. We sincerely apologize for any convenience. This may have cost. Thank you for your continued support of Pokemon champions and quote. An earlier issue surrounding the transfer of Pokemon from the cloud based Pokemon home services already been fixed. It's, it's reported. Um, this is such a interesting weird one. Yeah. As far as like what Pokemon champions is, how bad this launch is, how much I'm still enjoying the game. That's all that matters. That's all that matters. Yeah. Which team have been playing it? I've been playing it. I was playing more last night. I'm pretty much playing it. Like if I put on a show or whatever, I might do a battle in the background. Yeah. I'm like, are you getting your ass beat? You're learning. Um, I was killing it at first. Yeah. And then now I'm starting to run into people where it's like, oh, okay, you know what you're doing. And the more I run into these people, the more I'm realizing how sick the Pokemon VGC people are. Yeah. Where it's like, why do y'all know a lot of Jake Deckers out there? A lot of Jake Deckers out there. A lot of Jake Deckers. Where why do y'all know all these hidden numbers? Yeah. Like why are there's four buttons here? How do you know what, why do you, what's going on here? How are you figuring this out? The Pokemon is a kids game. Why are y'all so sweaty in this thing? They're freaking out. Y'all are sickos, man. Are you learning though? Are you figuring out? Okay. It's crazy. You're just gonna mollywop. I'm getting mollywopped in ways where I'm like, I didn't know that move did that. Yeah. I didn't know that. I'm not even learning anything because you're so fucking flustered. Yeah. It's like, I'm not learning anything because it's also just the thing of like, it's when it's over, it's over. Yeah. I don't know it's over until I get hit with a move and it takes out 100% of my HP. And I'm like, okay. Oh, okay. So you lowered my, okay. Oh, I didn't realize that that's what that did. Well, I'm stuck. Yeah. Now I'm stuck. Yeah, exactly. And so, I say that to say that I don't know how long I'm gonna play Pokemon. I'm enjoying it on the casual level, but man, man, y'all, they're ponin' me. They're ponin' you, bro. They're ponin' you, bro. Shout out to Price and Chat who said, they're ponin' you. They're getting poned, bro. I'm glad they're changing things. Yeah, we'll see. I hope this game gets to a place where enough people are happy with it. Not everybody's not. That's very nice though. I want to sit up on most games though. Yeah. I hope that this game gets to a place where most people are happy with it. It will never be a place where everybody's happy with it. Yeah, but there's not most people. There's not one game where everybody's happy. But can we get enough people happy? Enough people happy. Enough people. I mean, I think after enough updates, hopefully, right, you'll get the, you know, non-evolution versions of a lot of these characters. You start to have that good will. They just need to have the roadmap. Did they release a roadmap? Do they have one of these going on there to say, hey, we're gonna be next month doing this? Next month doing this? I think they're drawing the map as they go. That's tough. I think they're kind of just like, this needs a roadmap. I think we can't give the slack to Pokemon company of like, you guys need to figure your shit out and have a roadmap, but you can't be acting like you're better than anybody else. Figure it out. Tell us what's going on. It genuinely feels like they, I think the biggest problem with this game, it feels like they released a way too early. Yeah. It feels like this needed way more time. It seems like after a conversation, it feels like they're beta testing this. So then by August, they have a solid base for the actual competitive. Yeah, for Pokemon World. Yes. That's what this is. This is the beta right now. And then eventually they're going to, by August, probably have the, you know, mobile version or whatever going on there and can make it happen. Yeah. We'll see. Hopefully they get there. Story number five. Gunzilla CEO says haters are building the narrative that it doesn't pay as contractors and apologizes anyway. This is Chris Scholey and I love, I love when CEOs say haters, bro. Like it's like my favorite shit in the world that and what was it? The, the mind's eye people, right? Yeah. I use a haters, bro. I loved it. The mind's eye. We gotta start talking about haters, bro. There's so many haters. Can I tell you, because the mind's eye story is probably my favorite story in the last week. This feels like part two to the one that I see. Yes, it does. The different story, but like the energy of it is such a similar thing. We gotta stop the haters. Did you, did you get the part one to this yesterday where? Yes. The guy was saying that, hey, I haven't been paid for a while. I've been paid. Yeah. Let's read the story. The CEO of blockchain game development studio, Gunzilla games has posted a lengthy and defiant response to claims that the studio doesn't pay its contractors. I'm going to pause there and like remind y'all that Gunzilla, that's the company that I believe owns gaming for us as well. Yes, they do. They're the reason game for us back. Yeah. So not that that has relevance here, but just kind of something else. Yeah. Another detail to think about. Gunzilla games is the creator of NFT battle royale game off the grid and blockchain platform guns for the Z with a Z. The studio has the backing of Hollywood director Blomkamp of district nine and Chappy, who is credited as co-founder and chief creative officer on the company's website. Earlier this week, Paul Kramer, a VFX cinematic and gameplay animator who worked for Gunzilla for a year, posted a message on his LinkedIn page claiming that he hadn't been paid by the company for months and that he wasn't the only one this had happened to. VGC contacted Gunzilla for comment on the accusations, but instead, Gunzilla CEO Vlad Korolev has taken to X Ikea Twitter to address the situation claiming that haters are trying to paint a narrative to make the studio look bad. Sick. Korolev conceded that the company's payments were made at a time that suited the company and not those being paid. Then stated a quote full time, full time official employees were paid on time. Many of the claims were made by contractors, not employees. Yeah. The real employees were paid, even though all these people did work on it. No, we cared about the real one. Don't worry about them. They're just contractors. I like this. They don't have live. They don't need to get paid. I feel like this is the third story we've had in the last couple of weeks where it very much is people calling people out on their shitty behavior and going, oh, the haters coming after us. We did do those shitty things, but it's the haters that are not coming after us. The haters. Is it a or is it B's? The haters can't pay their rent. They're broke boys. Is it what you want? Like, what is it? What are we doing? Quote off the grid today is not just part of Web three gaming. It defines it. Whether some people like it or not, he claimed quote being named Web three game of the year, two years in a row. Oh, are you gaming the year two years in a row? That works. It's only one game. It's only one year. It's a year. What year did you come out? Um, being named Web three game of the year, two years in a row. Today, there's a new narrative from haters that guns. Zilla incorrectly laid off contractors or paid them with delays. Yes, we are optimizing costs like every company in gaming crypto and tech is doing right now. We've been doing this for over a year and yes, to not disrupt company operations. Some paychecks may be scheduled in a way that works for the company's cash flow, not always for everyone individually. That's the reality of the world we live in. What? But to protect the interests of our players in our full time official employees whose salaries over six years have never been delayed by more than a week, operate crazy. There's a lot of immediate. Yeah, exactly. We have never missed a payment more than a week, more than a week, more than a week. Brother, this, a lot of this is going to be brought to court. Some people are laid on the rent. Don't worry about it. It's only a week. God, just talk to the landlord. He continues, we operate at a pace that ensures the company continues moving forward. And of course we honor every obligation and quote, despite seemingly defending the company's payment setup, Coraliv then added quote, we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. This may have caused. It's also worth noting that one of the loudest voices, a contractor who finished working with us just a week ago was repaid immediately. He said off the grid has been live for over 1.5 years and we're still here, despite how much some people would love to see otherwise. Sorry. Sorry. We won't be giving you that privilege. And quote, well, yeah, there's, you know, the way my bank account works. I got a check-ins. I got a savings. I got a check-ins. It's the savings of the check-ins. Yeah. I got to look out for me first. We're having a hard bit, right? Like, hey, my main employees, my full-time employees, I pay them on time half the time. Yeah, exactly. You know, I pay them 100% of the time. My main checks, they get paid. You know, sometimes it might be a week late, but they get paid. Don't worry about it. Jesus. Incredible stuff. What, and people, someone said in the chat, there's an AI response. It is not. This is, this is. It's too dumb to be an AI response. This is so fucking dumb. They do have a lot of those dashes. A lot of the other dashes. They do have the dashes. So someone wrote a very unhinged thing into chatGPT and then chatGPT went and then just formatted it with like correct spelling. And like, didn't even change. Like, this is just such a bad PR message for so many reasons, right? Yeah. He again, did not need to say that he's basically admitting that he has skipped payment for a week, occasionally for some of their full-time employees. Didn't need to say any of that. Could have just said, Hey, we're figuring out some things in the back end. Well, you know, yada, yada, yada, we apologize for any inconvenience. That's what this could have been. But no, just completely just hold on himself because he's so mad about everything. Incredible stuff. Damn, I didn't realize there was a Web three game of the year for two years in a row. That's impressive though. That's really, that's really, I don't think Elden Ring could manage that. No, it can't. That's not Web three. Yeah. Damn, that's awesome. Off the grid. Incredible. Where do you think it was the Web three game of the year awards? IGN. Probably not. I probably not. Jeff Keely is like doing a whole different thing. Yeah. I pray for all the employees because, you know, they're, they're bragging about being open for 1.5 years. That's not, that's not too long. I mean, it's long in the industry, but you know, it's clearly what the way things are going on right now. If they're moving around, they're not paying certain people. That's, that's not a great sign. And also, of course, pray for game. That's the thing I care about the most is game and former, you know, game and former is a company that we all love here. And that has, it just came back, just came back as a storied legacy. Does great work. Um, I put, you know, my heart goes out to employees that work for the student, for the game studio as well. Yes. But I don't really care about your web three games. Even though, even if it was game of the year and a web three game, three years in a row, three, two years in a row. That's really big. That's huge. But Roger, if I wanted something smaller, say the tiniest news I needed to know about, where'd I go? You got our last story, the We New channel where we cover all the small news items you need to know about. Story number six is We News, Crimson, Devere, Crimson, Devere, Crimson, Desert Dev. Crimson Desert Dev confirms boss rematches, hard difficulty, enemy territory recapture, and a whole lot more is coming to the game soon. If you want to read about that, go over to Wesley Impool at IGN who has a whole article breaking it down. They also have a Dev diary. Um, if you want to, or press release actually is what it is. If you want to look into that as well. More We News for you from Wario 64. Serenity Forge has posted a notice that Doki Doki Literature Club on Google Play was removed due to content that violates their terms and services. In its depiction of sensitive themes, the game is still available on other platforms, the team will try to reinstate on Google Play and explore other options. Valor Mortis is launching this fall. That's really exciting. That's the game from, I believe they did Ghostrunner before. Yeah, these guys. Yes. Amy's pretty hyped for this one. Um, it looks really cool. Looks really, really cool. Speaking of really, really cool, Dead Is Disco launches May 5th on Steam Early Access. Do you know this one? Yes, I do know this one. Is that a colorful? Is that David Devs or something like that? Or? Yeah, David Devs. Yeah. Yeah. Colorful beat-em-up game. That is like a rhythm beat-em-up game. Yes. Think like if you're playing Seafoot to the beat. Yeah, I was talking to one of the Devs at David Devs. This game looks really cool. Super Battle Goff is coming to Xbox PS5 and Switch 2 this summer. This is the one we played at Party Mode, right? Yep. I saw it sold a million copies. Good for them. That's a great time for them. So shout out to them. This is Eri Wittesman playing it. Death Ascors and Why? From Gamatsu via Noble. Level 5 updated the platform of some of this upcoming games. OK. Inezuma 11 RE adds Switch 2 and drops PS4. Deca Police adds Switch 2 and drops PS4 and Switch. We're just kind of crazy. Deca Police, everybody. Deca Police. It's alive. Is that on your fantasy credit? It was like two years ago. Oh. This is the level of, you know, what we're at right now. But maybe it's back. Maybe I've drafted. I got one slot left. Let's see. Wow. Thickest Thieves launches May 20th on PC. Rift of the Necro Dancer. Undertale Music Pack is now available. That almost got me to redownload Rift of the Necro Dancer. And then building relationships has been delayed to later this year. Oh, shout out to this. Yeah, this was at the mix two years ago, last year, with me and Mike and we played it with the dev. And that was really, really fun. It's like a building game, right? Like this is a game that has building. Yeah, it's a building and you're fucking other buildings. It was very, very explicit. Yeah, it was awesome. Like the buildings are banging. Yes. Yes, yes, yes. It was like you play as a house that's rolling, like almost like like Damasi, like Harry, like Damasi. And then like you walk up to another building and like you guys have a picnic and then you put like the picnic like table into the other like no, like mouth and no, it's very explicit. It was very funny too. This you guys should follow him on Blue Sky. Like I forget his you can look up building relationships on Blue Sky, but like very, very funny dev stuff, great stuff. And that is it for we news. Stop in the super chats, see what y'all are talking about here. Yeltsing says, Hey, I show Roger the taste faker. What? Peccorni a shill shill. I booted up. I booted up a game for five. So no, no, you were talking to Snoop Dogg. No, no, Snoop Dogg. She said the weed wasn't loud enough or whatever. I was like, how dumb is this fucking thing? Let's see here. DTH says birthday tax celebrating my birthday tomorrow, turning 47. Yes, I know. Hashtag old, but I wanted to check in while I'm at work. Keep up the great job, everyone. Happy birthday. Almost as old as Nick's car. Pino. That's really cool. Aaron Lyme says games. Oh, sorry, the scroll did a thing. Somebody else wrote it with the Super Chat bumped out of the way. Games spend too long getting tampered with by by execs and restarting development. Smaller teams, harder deadlines, no exec meddling. Boom, lower costs. Aaron Lyme figured it out. Figure it out. Everybody figured it out. I put it on a poster. I think it's a bit more complex than that, but I feel you're coming from Aaron. Um, they writes in and says, bless, play people of note. I think you'll like it. Here's the thing. Because quite a few people have told me to play people of note and I played the demo. People of note is the turn based, JRPG inspired rhythm game. Okay. Um, I played the demo. Guys, I didn't like the demo. I keep having to say this because you look around and I didn't like, I didn't like the demo. I mean, maybe I'll give it another chance, but I don't know if I'll like people of note, but I'll, maybe I'll give it another chance. Well, a lot of people are saying it. Yeah. Foxy Steve writes in and says, just a bit of fun. We news there's a mod out that lets you make custom characters in Crimson Desert. I, Jen has the video. Ooh, you make Cliff McDuff finally. You can finally make Cliff McDuff. Um, yeah, I saw that one pop up the other day. I shared it with Kevin because Kevin's playing a lot of Crimson Desert, but he's playing on PlayStation. And so unfortunately, I don't think he'll be able to mod that. No. And then last one comes from Shlun, who says Bungie is risking it all for marathon. They should have made destiny three. Sony gets their money, rotate teams in for marathon as their part time project. Yeah. I mean, I think you got to try something different though. Yeah. I, I don't want to, we ask all the time for new games. We ask all the time for new ideas and new IP. So I don't want to be the person that's like, Oh, just make the same thing you did last time. But again, yeah, because usually I get bored by that. She's exactly. And that's part of why I really like marathon. I'm playing marathon. I'm like, damn, this feels so fresh. You know what I mean? Like I really liked our graders. I like this one for a lot of similar reasons, but even what they bring in for the world building and like these weird ass corporations that are hiring you for these jobs and all this shit is really, really cool. But the sucky thing is it's a risk. Whenever you do a new idea, it's a risk. And like, you know, it's the thing of we can't have our cake and eat it too. I love that they took a risk, but I hate that it might not be painting out for them. It's kind of where I land. I, I like this over a destiny three, but their pockets are probably like a destiny three over this. Yeah. So take it for what you will. That is it for super chats. Let's hop into your wrong. Were you right in? Let us know what we got wrong as we got a wrong. So we can correct it for those watching later on YouTube and listening later on podcasts. There's around the globe. Um, Jepo, it's not a you're wrong. Um, this is a fun one. Or this is a good one. Nick Nitro says just for some context, marathon was in development before bungee got acquired by PlayStation. There is still a team for destiny two and a separate team for marathon destiny two was supposed to get a roadmap in an update earlier this year. Um, but both got delayed. Um, kebab's right. So with the missed we news, the ghostly OT legends raid is now live. I'm very ready. Dude, I'm not having played it since the one time we played on games, guys plays, that's how it's saddens me. We need to look at Roger or not Roger. Sorry, we need to look at Mike because I look at you guys at the same person. You guys are two hours in the same brain and go, let's just schedule a full week. We're playing. Yeah, we were playing OT legends every single day. We're grinding OT legends. Riding that legend. Um, that is it. Perfect show. Yeah, that is it for we news. Perfect show. Roger, it's been good doing the show with you. Great way to end the week blessing. Yeah, but not our content day. Not our content. Yeah, a lot of stuff. Cause right after this, you guys asked for it and we're going to deliver. Mike is going to review the legend of Zelda Ocarina of time. The Makarina for the first time, the Makarina of time. Makarina. I'm sure that's a thing, right? Yeah, he calls it the Makarina or something. Oh, he calls it that. Yeah, I might that. And then afterwards we got what? A party mode with Lego party and the one and only Joey Noel. It's gonna be a really fun time. We're going to torture Joey. I'm not going to be great. You're not going to be there. I got to review a game. I was going to make you do it, but no, I appreciate that. That's been it for kind of funny games. Daily, if you love what we do, support us with the kind of funny membership on Patreon or YouTube to get all of our shows ad free and get a daily exclusive show.
