Hard as it is to believe the PS five is by Sony's own admission already well past the halfway point of his life cycle. It's even time to start thinking about the PS six. It's fair to say that PS five hasn't been deluged with classics and the rate of must play new releases is slower than it has been on previous playstations, which I want to have a conversation about. Sure, I love that. Thank you. What's sure to be the console's defining game? GTA six isn't even out until later this year. That could also be a whole conversation. Even so, the PS five's library has grown to the extent that there's a lot to sort through and new and old PS five owners will be wondering what to play. So here's our living list of the best video games we've played on the platform. Just period. The best video games we've played on the platform influenced by the personal taste of the polygon team to be updated as more games come out. So I feel like that relieves some of the pressure they might have to make this a definitive list. Yeah. Nobody's going to read that. They're just going to be mad. Trust me. I've done this for a long time. All I Wake 2 is the first game that pops up. Fuck yeah. We had that on our shortlist. Hell yeah. Yeah. Do we agree? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I can see it. Yeah. I think All I Wake 2, a really, really special game and really for as much as control was like, Hey, if you haven't been paying attention to Remedy, here they are. And to some degree, they're back, you know what I mean? In terms of what they're doing. I think All I Wake 2 was like, Hey, they can do it consistently. They can do this consistently. They can make really cool shit. They can turn it on its head. It was, you know, nice to see them be able to deliver on something. I know they've wanted to do for so long. Everyone has asked them about All I Wake 2 for so long. Can you believe that? Can you believe All I Wake 2 is All I Wake 2? Like if you would, before this game was announced, I feel like if you had said there's going to be a new All I Wake game, you've been like, Okay. Yeah. Right. You could have would have been like, All right, whatever. Yeah, exactly. But the fact that it came out and it was one of the most beloved games of that year. Yeah. And really took them to that next level for what Remedy is. Yeah. You know what I mean? Same like dancing on the Game Awards stage, then doing the whole thing where he's like thinking and narrating his own thoughts. Yeah. It's so good. It's such a great game. It should have been our number two that year. Yeah. Thinking back to the bracket me and Mike did, I might have been a little bit harsh on All I Wake 2. You were. I wasn't familiar with you. I think you guys knocked it out in the first round and it was really fucking upsetting. Well, that I stand by because what was it against again? I don't know. I feel like whatever it was up against, I probably, I think I stand by, but I think I talked too harshly about it. But I was trying to defend the other thing. It's probably why. This is a game that I feel like not, I don't think it gets overlooked necessarily because I think critically people loved it and we talked about and all that stuff. Right. But I don't hear about it. Not anymore. Critically, bam, it was, but even after the fact, there's so many indie games that come out, make that wave, get that juice, and then are talked about throughout the year, where I really do feel like even for, you know, Roger reviewed it, gave it a 10. I remember, I think it was the first 10 we did in the new scoring system. And like that was a big moment for us. And I don't think anyone necessarily kind of funny loved it as much as Roger did, but it's not like those scores were foreign when you looked at other outlets, other people talking about it. I just felt like that conversation went away really quickly. Yeah. I mean, it is a very particular game. Fair. You know, it's a Metroidvania that isn't combat focused at all, right? It's way more puzzly. I played it. Absolutely loved it. I don't know if I'd say 10 out of 10, but I would be on the nine out of 10, right? I would be somewhere around there. I think this is, I forget what year this came out, but whatever year it comes out. I think it's one of the best games of the year. So I'm also trying to look at like, what were other big games that year, which I think that was tears the kingdom and Balder's Gate. Yeah. And that was also metaphor that was shadow of the earth tree. That was metaphor refund. Tazio. That was definitely a top. This is a top 25 game with that. That was a lotro. Like there are so many. I was going to say top 10, but I guess with that competition, yeah, I could see how it gets a little bit lost, but really good game. I'm looking forward to seeing they do next. But CD Projekt's commitment to making that game good and delivering on it and then coming back with Phantom Liberty and really delivering, I mean fucking Hresobok, let's go. Oh my God. Yeah, no, Cyberpunk 2077, this edition made it one of my favorite RPGs, right? And I liked a lot during launch despite all the bugs and all that, right? But it was very much like, I like this game with a bunch of caveats. Now with this version, I can just say I love this game and I don't have to go, oh, but this, but this. Yeah, exactly, exactly. Did you write down Citizen Sleeper because we're in the seas now and it doesn't seem like Citizen Sleeper is going to be on there either. No, I didn't write down Citizen Sleeper. And what the community was like during that time has a really distinct art style, does really cool things with just like being able to kind of live in this world and take in the story that is telling. Really cool game. Our next game for you is Disco. Oh, I thought about Disco, but I was like, I don't know. Fuck it. I didn't write it down. Yeah. I think I also thought about Disco, but forgot to actually bring it up. Yeah. I don't think we actually surfaced it and I did not think about it, but that makes sense. Of course, Final Cut adding all that Vio. Yep. People wanted that so badly to get in there and do it. This was the version of the game that I played and absolutely fell in love with. Another reinvention, but then the way they've been able to capture an audience, keep that audience around, have people talking about an MMO RPG that isn't a fucking wow. Right. Yeah. Like talking about it in a popular sense, like incredible stuff they've done. I think if I'll, if this was more of a formal top 25 ranked list, I probably would have argued more against it being on here because I've viewed it as a cross-generational game, right? Final Fantasy 14, that was pure for error. Sure. That we're talking about. But this list is a, hey, what are 25 games, what are the 25 games you recommend the most to play on PS5? Yeah. I totally understand it being on this list in that context. Yeah. It also, some people in Chow were saying it did have a big PS5 update. And I would also say like when it was in its highs, it was like that like early PS5 years in like 2021 to like 2023 where expansions were coming out and it was so big, people were waiting hours to get into it. That's true. Yeah. It really had like this huge moment early on in the, this generation. The next game is Forza Horizon 5. Wow. I called that shit. Come on. Bless that. Motherfuckers, Forza Horizon 5 is an incredible video game that you should play on PlayStation or wherever you play games. Again, I think this is a conversation we were having yesterday on how to fix PlayStation, right? That these sequels to the games that are the breakouts of this PlayStation franchise, right? Do kind of feel like they get the shaft. Oh, it's just more, it's just more. The extraordinary becomes ordinary. I think in so many different ways. Yote, we talked a lot at review, obviously, of how much we loved it. But then I do feel like conversation cooled quite a bit on it. A great game. I'm happy to see it. I love Ghost of Yote. Our next game on the list, God of War, Aknorok. Again, conversation. Everything you just said. They don't talk about as much. Love to see it. Probably if I mean, if you're to ask me, right, top PlayStation in-house first party games, I think God of War, Aknorok will probably be my number one for the PS5. Oh, between that and Returnal, I love Returnal a lot. I asked you about two. But God of War, Aknorok is like the first one that comes to mind for me, though. Of like, this was this lives up to when you think of prestige, PlayStation, like firing on all cylinders, give me an amazing story, give me great gameplay, all this shit, right? Like God of War, Aknorok is kind of the premiere for that, for me of this generation. Next up on the list, Gran Turismo 7. Yeah. Hell yeah. I would have not thought this would make the list. Yeah. Not because it's not a bad game or anything. Gran Turismo 7, you want to talk about another game that you just don't hear about. I feel like outside of the GT community. And again, to our conversation yesterday about what the PlayStation audience fan bases become, I just don't hear people talking about GT the way I used to about fucking Roper being obsessed with the GT. And I know I'm going into the annals of history here, but like, I just feel like, especially with the way Forza has won the hearts and minds campaign and then come to PlayStation now, I just don't hear about GT or the fervor for more. But again, I'm not in that community. Yeah. This is another one where I had to call Michael Hyam for Michael Hyam. Is he? I didn't know he loves racing, loves racing, has like had like a racing wheel that I think he used to play Gran Turismo 7. And then I brought it into my room one day to play GT 7 in VR, but the wheel wasn't hooked up the right way. So I went into the race and then the car veered left and I felt like I was in an actual car crash. It was very scary. Be careful with your time. Hey, man, he came in dressed like an EMT to help you out. I'm like on the floor side. You're somehow like you got smashed against the wall. Yeah. Yeah. But yeah, dude, GT 7 in VR, one of the best VR experiences I've ever had aside from the car crash. Next game, Hades. Oh, just Hades won because Hades 2 is not yet. Yeah. Yeah. That makes sense. We're getting in that Xbox world. Oh, that is not yet. That is not there yet. I don't know. Great game. Yeah. Fantastic. Yeah. Deserves to be on there. Do we have that on our list or what do you say? No. I don't think we bring up Hades. Did I write down Hades 2? I might have wrote down Hades 2. No, I didn't write down Hades. Yeah. This was, I think, purely just because we didn't even think of it. We just forgot. Sure. Yeah. Next game, Hell Divers 2. Hell yeah. You love to see it. Hell Divers 2. What a fucking success story. Yeah. Insane for as much as I loved Hell Divers 1 on Vita to be here on this game, just dates forever, finally comes out. And then yeah, that first me and Andy going to play at a PlayStation, toss into the deep end, like, I don't know, it could be great. And then to get it in the way we, I was obsessed in the way many of us were obsessed, the way you, the audience were obsessed. What a fucking game. Yeah. I love that. When I think of the more successful PlayStation exclusives of this generation, Hell Divers 2 comes to mind. Yeah. And like, I like that. I like that it's something different. I like that it's, I, you know, we have, endless conversations about the multiplayer live service, question, all that stuff. Right. I like that even beyond that, there is Hell Divers 2 that is, all right, it's multiplayer, it's live service, but also it's something that we all like. Yeah. Something that we all kind of agree that it is a good thing. And you see the numbers and the success and all that. And so that's good to have. Yeah. And the reason being, right, and this is just me crystal balling, right, is that Hell Divers 2 doesn't feel like chasing a trend. Yeah. When we talk about PlayStation and Jim Ryan, and we're going to have all these live service games, it felt like you were making this announcement. And then what we saw was trying to become Overwatch, trying to become Fortnite, trying to become, this was clearly, we are making a sequel to Hell Divers that had an audience. And I clearly, they didn't expect it to be as big as it was. Anybody, understandably, because they weren't betting big on it. Like they were with a Concord. Like that's the difference here. We, they looked at Concord and said, everybody else is having success with live services. Clearly we will as well. Whereas Hell Divers 2 was like, all right, we're making a better Hell Divers. Yeah. Let's go. Yeah. The next game we got, Like a Dragon, Infinite Well. All right. That's a great call out. Great list so far. Because yeah, Like a Dragon doesn't, didn't come to mind for me, but. Diverse, I like that. When you think about just this generation of video games, one of the most consistent franchises has been Like a Dragon slash Akusa. Yeah. In terms of always having a game to release. There's always one coming. Every year you're getting one. Are they all great? No. But. But when the big ones come out, right, whether it be Infinite Wealth or the other one, I think that was just Yakuza Like a Dragon. Yeah. Right. Yeah. When those come out, it's like, damn, the fan base is really happy. The fan base is really excited for this thing. And I played a little bit of Infinite Wealth. It was great to be in Hawaii. That was fun. It's really cool. Yeah. Be in Hawaii, hang out with both Ichiban and then Kiryu as well. Right. Like a lot of things that I know, fans of the series appreciate. I don't know if they nailed everything, but I think they nailed enough to put it on here. Next game, metaphor, Fernasio is expected to go to is that next persona game to are you excited for, you know, the four remake or whatever I am is for, for Golden is one of my favorite jr<|tr|> град is I'll probably just say is one of my favorite games is is I'm super excited for that, but I think I'm way more excited for something new. Okay. Yeah. Understandable. I'm in the same boat where I'm more looking towards a Persona 6. I love Persona 4, but like, wow, am I going to replay that entire game? Probably not. Yeah. I'm also interested just like with it finally being the team that worked on Persona 5 Royal specifically Persona 6 being their first original creation after the original like leadership left. Like what is that? What does a new Persona game look like under new leadership, especially in a post-Meta 4 refontology world that definitely looks like it was trying to push what person like the Persona style combat even further in terms of like strategy and difficulty and all that. So it'll be interesting. Yeah. Our next game we got on the list is Resident Evil Requiem. Hell, yeah. This one got spoiled for me as I was putting together the show, but I understand. Makes sense. That's why they upgrade this game. Hey man. Fantastic game. Top 25 for you for a PlayStation 5? Greg Miller's personal list? Maybe. It's one of those words I don't want to commit to it. It wouldn't be in the top half for sure. Not that I think it's a bad game. I really enjoyed Requiem. I loved Requiem, but like, I don't know. I hadn't thought about it in that context. That's a hard context. Yeah. It's such an interesting one because I know, I mean, this is the truth for all of our personal lists, right? But like when you make personal lists, they start to get weird. Of course, like immortality would be on my list. You know what I mean? Is that a list that would go on a polygon or is that a game that would go on an IGN or a polygon thing? Probably not. Can I ask you a question then? What's up? Did you play immortality at PS5? No, I think I played it on Xbox. See that was my thing too of looking through and it was like, I almost said it for this, but I was like, well, no, I have zero trophies on it. It came so late to PS5. I just don't think of it as being a PlayStation 5 game. That's a good point. The next game we got is Returnal. Nice. Hell yeah. One of my favorite PS5 games of this generation, purely for how fresh it felt as a first party thing. Do you think Saurus can overcome it in terms of when I ask you, which is better? Would you enjoy more? Whatever. Yes, because I think there's so much stuff that you can iterate on. I think especially with like roguelite mechanics, there's so much that you can do systems wise. Like I look at Hades to Hades to as far as the way they're able to lock in and be like, all right, what are the things about the gameplay loop that people like and how do we make that more fun? How do we take some of the core mechanics when you look at Hades, things like the cast system where it's like, all right, let's turn this into like hex based stuff and make it more about area of effect damage and all this shit. Right. I think roguelite design making that stuff better makes sense when you're working iteratively. I think beyond that, when you talk about story, hearing Roger and Andy talk about the narrative and stuff, I'm like, yo, I feel like I'm going to like the story maybe even more than like returnally. I like the red, I like Returnal story, but it was very non traditional as far as how they It was an alecory. Delivered it to you. Yeah. Yeah, which I honestly kind of fuck with. I appreciate it a lot. I'm going to be interested to see how Sony cinematic first party it becomes with Star Wars with like what we've seen from trailers and previews and stuff. I really loved the story for Returnal for like how different it was from the rest of Sony stuff. Or is like, I don't know how much I'm going to vibe with Star Wars going more for like, hey, let's give you a straightforward thing. Whereas like Returnal felt like unraveling layers of what everything means, which was like so fucking cool. And it reminds me like it does kind of like Alan Wake 2 stuff in a way before I wake to write or like fucking what's the other Alan Wake game control, right? Yeah, just the way it would kind of reveal things through gameplay and environments. I thought was so fucking rad for sure. It's made in people in chat are pointing out since this is alphabetical. No ratchet. Yeah, no ratchet. Not crazy. I agree with like I I really liked ratchet it one game of the year because it was on everyone's list, but I feel like I Yeah, I don't I don't know. I think there's a lot to Hem ha argue about between Smiles and this and that but a bigger world more to do the cool crossovers Nothing felt wasted remember that was a big thing side missions mattered like again I think we're so easy to be this isn't the exact same conversation because drama piece five games But it's so easy that some of the lustre of spider-man 2 is lost because it's the third game You know what I mean? Sure. Sure. I think there's certain story beats that weren't my favorite in this one But like not anything that's enough for me to be like I'll get this off the list here.
